Selling a Concept and a Brand with Sarah Barnes-Humphrey
About this episode
This week on The Exit: When Sarah joined her father’s company straight out of high school she never expected she would go on to carve out a brand new niche: supply chain media. Starting in reception at her fathers supply chain company, she slowly worked her way up, working in operations for eight years, followed by eight years in sales, eventually becoming the Director of Sales and Marketing. It was in this position that she launched a podcast about the company's brand story and the supply chain industry. But when her dad decided to shut the business down, Sarah was out of a job. She decided to focus on the podcast she had created and went on to build it into a community for people working in the supply chain. This is where the idea for Shipz came from - a platform to connect shippers and service providers. While the concept for Shipz was solid, and the technology was ready, the realities of growing a marketplace were challenging. Just when they were beginning to look for funding, they found an acquirer and ultimately sold the brand and concept. Listen to find out about the sale of a concept and how it differs from selling a revenue generating business.
Sarah Barnes-Humphrey has had a career in the Logistics and Supply Chain industry for almost 25 years as she went into the family business right out of high school.
