Sean Penn picked up his third Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor in the movie One Battle After Another at the 2026 Academy Awards. The 65-year-old skipped the ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday March 15th. He was instead in Kiev, Ukraine's capital, the next day. Kieran Kulkin accepted the award on Penn's behalf during the show. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, March 17th, the head of Ukrainian Railways handed Penn a special Oscar statue at. It was crafted for metal off a train, damaged in the Russia Ukraine War. Ukrainian President Volodomar Zelensky met with Penn and posted a photo online. The 48-year-old leader praised him as a true friend of Ukraine. Zelensky highlighted Penn's steady support right from the start of the full-scale invasion. Penn has backed Ukraine and Zelensky openly since Russia invaded in February 2022. Earlier, he even gave away one of his past Oscars. He suggested it could be melted down for bullets against the Russians.
