Fourth quarter, Drake made was up 10-0. Then through not one, not two, but three interceptions in the span of 14 minutes to lose the game in several aura points. Here he is after the game.

3:28We had the game under control. I thought we had a good plan to try to start chipping away and be patient. And get lost patients and cost it us. I think it just... You have decisions that cost us the game on my part and mine. And I've housed myself to be better and realize it's a long season. At the same time, we can't have those. And unacceptable. A friend, we didn't need to chip away. We didn't need to do any chipping. We were the tree. Well, we were up 10-0. It wasn't great, but look, you know, I love a good 77% completion percentage. Passor rating 105. Not great, but control in the game. It's like the Broncos game. Just don't lose it. Those numbers are good at three first. They're fine. They're not, you know, Drake May has. You'll take that. But my gosh. All right. I'm here ready to be just cooked. It's just like a Habatchi grill here. Just throw me there and cook me up.

4:29I'm ready. Brew, would you like your first licks at the old came in? Ah, sure. Every time. It's a one piece of joy I do receive. Oh, look. Look at what it says, bro. I'm just going to be here. I'm just going to be here. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. KW. What? I don't want to do this bit anymore. Well, not only do you need to do this bit. I'm not doing it. I'm not doing it. I'm not doing it. Do you not remember what he said yesterday? Yeah, he wanted all of us to walk through.

5:29I'm walking through. I've never been more excited to walk through. KW, lead the way. Come on, foul. It's fun as you think it is. I've been waiting to do this for a year. It's never felt better. Gosh, wow. Wow. And up. Chris, did you see the three interceptions? I would have enjoyed going through Nick, but honestly, I don't feel despair. I feel joy. No reason for me to walk through there. Why do you feel joy? Because you're smugness. I am the only one on this set. Wow. If not the show. I believe I'm the only one on this show. And one of the few in a mirror at a moment. I got them missing the playoffs. Well, they didn't get a limited. This was not surprising to me, wow. You know what? I didn't raise an eye, but this is what I expected. So, no, I'm not walking through your door of despair. Because I don't feel despair. Can I say, am I, am, I am shocked.

6:33They lost the way they did. I thought they would lose, and I thought they'd lose by a larger margin than they lost. But there were some pieces of that game start to finish. But particularly, Mays 4th, Quarter, obviously, KW. Yeah. That shake your foundational belief in the player. That is, unfortunately correct. And in the infrastructure around the player that was supposed to inoculate him from some of these young early quarterback, you know, woes. The coaching staff once again. And the quarterback once again got depanced by Mike McDonald. They had two weeks to prepare for Mike McDonald and his defense in the Super Bowl. Could not do it. That was unsettling. The fact that for, in my opinion, the third consecutive game the Patriots have played. Josh McDaniel's and Mike Vrabel coached not to lose.

7:35The AFC Championship game were playing Jared Stettom. It's in the snow. Once we get a touchdown, we feel the games over. We are coaching not to lose. I felt and we talked about it. It's a great game. We're going to be in the Super Bowl. And then yesterday, I don't know if this was always going to be the game plan. But the moment Donald went out, which was so early, they simply said, we are going to be as conservative as possible. That initially, KW, you didn't make sense to me. But I'm like, I'm just going to put it back on the table. I'm going to put it back on the table. I'm going to put it back on the table. Initially, KW, you didn't make sense to me. But I'm like, just finish it up. I'm going to put it back on the table. That doesn't make sense to me, but go ahead. Because they were coaching as if they had a quarterback that couldn't be trusted. And then in the fourth quarter, he validated that approach early on, where they're running the ball even though they have no success at it.

8:35They had called a game to where that only made sense if they thought their quarterback was liable to do what he ended up doing, which was have three all different, but outrageously bad interceptions. The first one's into double coverage when you have full control of the game. The second one is a carving copy of the interception from the Super Bowl, when Collinsworth says, I don't even know what to tell you there, Mike. And the third one is as bad of a pick as you will ever see because of what you said. You had overtime in your back pocket. It was drake May in real time playing some of the most football-wise immature and reckless football of his career in a game where they didn't need to have it. Where like you said, they were playing from ahead almost the entirety of the way, is wildly concerning. So I disagree with you on the going back to the AFC Championship game. Once you got Jarrett's did him and you got a lead, play not to lose. Don't turn the ball over, win the game.

9:37Drew Locke wasn't going to move the ball. They got, they had a brain fart when JSN is in there in a push push. Hello, he's not Jason Kelsey out there, be on the lookout for JSN. I thought playing not to lose was the right strategy once we're up 10-nothing. But here's the issue, and this is the, as you said, a foundational belief. I have put, perhaps mistakenly, the criticism of drake May and the Patriots last year in their path to the Super Bowl, in the same folder in my brain as DK Meccaps recent statements about Antarctica and a hollow earth and there's a royal empire of people living underneath Antarctica. I said, you know what, both of those things go into my, don't believe it, ridiculous file. Then last night, it was as if a small man emerged with a crown on top of his head.

10:40From Antarctica, I said, my gosh, you guys might have a point. I apologize for everything is unfortunately on the board. It's all got to be on the board. I think I'm a good guy. I think you guys know that I'm like a decent guy. I'm a good guy. Yeah, I'm a good guy. But if all of a sudden we're out to eat and you look down, like, hey, did you get a new watch? And I'm like, nah, it's one of Bruce. I got it. What? It's all, all it's got to be on the board. Like that is such a bad decision. You got to look at everything now. It's got to be on the board. What is happening? Is there a meltdown component to Drake? Was this team frawds last year? I can't just push back against that and say it's all absurd. Well, look, look, I know that right now it's easy to pile on Drake. And I will do that later.

11:41But I cannot let Romeo wear art vow hands, dobs off the hook. Yeah. All right, because for all as bad as Drake was and he had already thrown his first interception, if Romeo dobs catches, I mean, there's not an easier catch in the NFL than that. And he had gloves on, bro. He had his gloves on and of course his guardian cap. And if he makes that catch with nine minutes to play to scores, Tintin, who knows what happens. I mean, good chance you guys win that game. But the worst part of that is that I wasn't even surprised. Because last year, I had faith in Romeo Dye. I was the Packers guy as far as the NFC. And remember that? You're on the sure hands team, Romeo, where art thou hands? And you're muffed at one side kick and they end up losing that game inexplicably to the bear.

12:46And here's the bad part, wilds, the worst part right now for the next few weeks. He's your number one. He's your number one receiver. You're receiving court right now is worse than it was last year. So that we're going to, when we talk about how concerned the Patriots are going to be in a moment, I'm going to expand on that further. Can I go back to Drake just for a second? Yeah, I was going to go to, I got some stuff on Drake too. So here would be, because again, and I'm not going to run for it. As I said yesterday in the day before, and you got mad at me, but it still applies, I'm a Drake May guy. I'm not the Drake May guy, it's you. But I'm a Drake May guy. I am a Drake May believer. I don't believe it. Yes. And I said to you, I think the scale I used was going into the playoffs, my faith, that he was going to be a long time star, was like an 8.8 out of 10. And coming out of the playoffs, it was down to a 7.8 out of 10 because of how shaky he was in the postseason. That's what we were talking about doing the Wimbee Cup and that stuff. 3.7 out of 10?

13:46Well, there were some, we've shown the regular season versus the playoffs. We can show it again and now add yesterday's game. Just the regular season versus his last five games. That is such a precipitous and cataclysmic drop. And again, 17 is a bigger sample than five, but five football games is a growing sample, where it's no longer a tiny sample. That is one concerning data point. The other thing that I brought up during last year, he was on this insane heater of bombs being completed. They were the best, deep passing team I could remember. Weeks 1 through 8, he was 12 of 16 to a game, and five touchdowns, it was a perfect pass rating every time they threw deep. Since then, which is a much larger sample, where 31% completions, the pass rating is 40% of what it was, it's 7 picks.

14:52So that's a concern. And then there is the how bad is your worst. And I think we can say his fourth quarter was his worst. Yeah. Here's the last five guys to have three plus picks in a fourth quarter. A tight end cosplaying as a quarterback, Taisam Hill. James Winston, who interceptions were kind of his calling card. Tuah, Zach Wilson, and Drake May. So the last five guys to do it. I didn't look at those games. I almost bet Drake's are worse. Oh, well, I bet somebody's trying to come back or stuff. So the only other quarterback to throw three picks in the fourth quarter in the last decade when they led going into the fourth quarter was Andy Dalton did it once. So those guys weren't leading going into the fourth quarter. I mean, that was, and I just wonder, in KW, if Drake's confidence is wavering. And how much that applies here? Yeah. I mean, he's still young.

15:53I think it's very young. I think Raible is worried about that. Where you see a lot of TLC immediately after the picks. Raible comes over and Drake leaves the field. Raible is there. So it is good coaching, but I do think he's worried about Drake's confidence. Chris always a pleasure. It's so far you've been on the show twice. We're on one. But we'll try to see you next week. 16:58Yeah. Yeah. That was you. Thank you. Chris. Zoom out. AJ Brown. Oh, here's other news. We didn't even talk about it. AJ Brown at a high ankle sprain. He'll miss at least a few weeks. Romeo Dobbs targeted three times. Had the same amount of catches. Gianna zero. Why are you talking about Gianna? Well, also the same number of catches is dusty. Because no. Dusty had one in the fourth. Defense couldn't stop Drew Lock. Here's my variable. You don't get any do overs, but we'll have to learn from it. And you know, stick together. Never just about one guy. I think everybody knows that by now. Okay, for the record. This was a super ball duo over lost in week one after losing the Super Bowl. So look, the Chiefs lost week one. Missed the playoffs. Bangles. That's an exception. 12 and four. So that's where we're trying to follow. 49ers lost. They went six and 10. Super Bowl hangover. Panther's six and 10. And missed. So 75% of them won six games.

18:00No, no, no, no, no, no. It's a different math. One more 12. All right, how worried should I be? Very. Because you're not going to be the Bengals. You're going to be one of those other ten. All right, now I'm not saying, are you one more than six? But Drake made it and I'll start with him last night. What was the Scouting Report on Drake coming out of college? Great arm, great physical tools. Reckless. Reckless and his decision making, you know, all of that processing can be a problem. And that's what you saw last night. Those first two interceptions. If Coach was out here, he would say he threw them into what? A team meeting. All right, the first two intercepts. He threw, there were like three Seahawks around there. And one paid, like this has no chance of being caught. Yeah.

19:00Except by an opponent, which it was. And the second one, the closest guys of the five closest guys to the ball, four of them, if not five of six, were Seahawks. All right, so, and then, of course, the last play, you know, like you said, he just, he had overtime in his back pocket. So that is an issue. And Nick, you brought up the last five games. Yeah. I will bring up his stats versus winning teams now. All right, because that is a difference. So you see the numbers versus losing teams where he looks like an MVP. And versus winning teams. And now we're getting a substantial sample size of this. And it's bad. And so that would definitely concern me if I'm a Patriots fan. Secondly, as I said earlier, your best receiver right now is Romeo Dobbs and your real receiving court. No, he's not their best. He's their highest paid.

20:00Who is the best? I mean, somebody else. Okay, there you go. Yeah. So that's what I'm saying. Your receiving court right now is worse than it was. I love you. But he does that a little. No, it was worse than that. Before they paid Dobbs 17 million a year, did you, why receiver two? In the 36 snaps before AJ Brown went out, he was on the field for 15 of them. Mac Collins and pop had more snaps played before AJ went out. It was clear from the very beginning for some reason Romeo was not their number two receiver. Yeah. He was not being treated as their number two receiver. He wasn't getting the reps of the number two receiver. You guys had multiple snaps before AJ went out. In 11 personnel, meaning three receivers out there. And he wasn't one of them. Yeah. And then he came in the game, got targeted three times. Had one drop, one turned into a pick, and one missed. Like, that's a problem. Sorry, bro. But I do. No, no, no, no. I totally agree. I totally agree.

21:00And so the other piece is, Drake may obviously have had line. But two things should not be lost here. I disagree with you, Drew Lock was not going to move the ball. Drew Lock was 15 of 18 to start the game against your defense. As soon as your defense was totally unable to pressure Drew Lock, he finished the game with the 111 rating. Eight and a half yards per attempt. They were like shooting themselves in the foot. They were like getting bailed out and pulled. So, well, that's what I was. The other thing is this. You guys were four Seahawk penalties away. From this game being so much uglier. One of Drake's worst throws of the night on the flea flicker. When AJ Brown is wide open for a touchdown. Oh, that was a poor one. It was under thrown by 10 yards, which led to the old under thrown DPR. Pass and a low. So there's seven points there. The only other time you scored was on a drive. You punted. But there was roughing the punter.

22:01The Seahawks then throw a touchdown. But Drew Lock doesn't get the guys lined up right. So that goes from seven to three. The Seahawks then have second and one at the three. And Drew Lock gets a delay of game. So they settle for three. There's a lot. Those are four Seahawk mistakes that might have been. But if Seahawks made a loud mistake. A lot of mistakes. So when I'm saying Drew Lock can't move the ball. I'm factoring in that like he's not going to have the operation. It's rolling like Sam. No, it's like Sam Darnold. That's fair. But you had to defense it. You. You guys is concerning, bro. You had the game one, though. To your point. I think that's what you're saying. Yeah. If Drake doesn't just melt down, you win that game. Which you should with Drew Lock playing the whole game. Tiny dose of optimism to end the segment. A weird optimistic full screen. And it's not just hey week one. We lost to the Raiders last year. We beat the Bengals. Remember I was high on Gerard May after beating the Biggles.

23:02Mike Raible. Like Sleuth and Week one, I guess. One of the biggest week one losers in all time. Time for the third longest week one losing streak ever. In 21, the tight ends lost by 25 to the Cardinals and then went 12 and 5. Two losing seasons there. Then he lost to the Raiders last year. 14 and 3. Hey, half the time. I mean, I lose. That is not nothing. I mean, if I was Mike Raible, I would say get locked in a little bit on week one. But any port in the storm here for OK. Listen, I thought just some fun. Before your quarterback melted down, you could not run the ball. You could not pressure a backup quarterback consistently. Well, that might be the Seahawks might. Seahawks are the Super Bowl champions. I understand. They look amazing. Yes, and all summer I heard about how you guys were the silver medalists.

24:04And so I would not end there. And a lot of belief that you guys would put on a better show if Sam Darnal were playing. This is, having Sam Darnal go out of the game. We're going to talk about the Seahawks in a few minutes. Having Sam Darnal go out of the game. Be up to nothing and lose in that fashion is about as catastrophic a week one loss as you're going to see. To add insult to injury that all of a sudden the Patriots were so high on their bounty of weapons supply, they trade away KW's buddy, K-Shombooty, who nobody speaks more highly of, he's good. He's good. Give a boy for nothing. And now of sudden AJ Brown's in a walking boot, Romeo dobs and witness protection. And it's a lot of shoeless Mac Collins and pop Douglas. Mac Collins was great. That's great. What? Mac Collins was great. I don't think anyone on your team was great yesterday. I don't think anybody was great.

25:04Look, there's what was Mac Collins great at yesterday. Mac Collins caught the two catches to lead up to the game losing interception. Oh, that wasn't a game losing interception. I mean, I don't have the... Mac Collins had four catches for 51 yards. That was not a great game. That's Mac Collins. For Mac Collins, that's his role. That's the final... I can... We shouldn't be talking about Mac. In the final drive, Mac Collins caught the ball for like... Yes, I'm saying he played... Mac Collins is the one guy that is getting an A on this report card. Okay. That's how bad it was, like. Okay. I'm back now. Guess what? I'm back. I'm back. Watch out for Monday night. You better... Ray! You better... Ray! You better... You got to pitch right this up. 27:10It's a muscle thing, which is good news. In his absence, True Lock played a clean and efficient game to get the win. Here's Mike McDonald last night. At this point, we were able to rule out a fracture. So there's some more tests to be done. And so that's what I'm saying when it's positive. But I know it's still working through all that. But right now I think fractures out, which is great news. Coach, True Lock played pretty well. How impressed were you with Seahawks overcoming Donald's injury? It was really impressive. I was a little disappointed overall with the amount of penalties they had and how bad the penalties ended up being. So whether it was the roughing the kicker or the pass at her parents or lining up off sides on the fourth and more. Like I thought those, if they lost the game, obviously those would have been the reasons why. And they had a little bit of some cadence issues that we saw as one of their drives. They seem to be getting the plays in late two.

28:11Yeah, and that's understandable when you're working with the backup quarterback who hasn't gotten the reps. And then from the offensive lines perspective, his cadence, the way that he's going to bark out the calls, especially on hard counts, that's different than what you're going to get from Sam Donald. So you're going to get a little bit of that sloppiness plus it's the first game. All those things went into it. But I'd say overall really impressive. You talk about what was it, the third play of the game or the third or fourth play of the game? That would be able to go in and then play the rest of the game with a minimal amount of snaps that you got during the course of the week. Everything was geared towards Sam Donald. And the most important thing we talk about this all the time, more games are lost in one. He obviously didn't lose the game like what we saw on the other side of the ball. He had just enough plays to put them in a position to win the game. And he made some really impressive plays under pressure, whether it was the fourth down play of Jackson Smith and Jigba.

29:12He had a couple other plays under pressure where he made some nice throws. And when you look at the course of his career, he didn't play, I think he had two or three snaps all the last season. So it's been a long time since he's played anywhere near this type of meaningful football. And to come in and to do what he did, he gives him a chance. He had been six and 17 as a starter over like the previous five years. Mostly in Denver. Yeah, so for him to come in, I thought he played pretty well. The throw to Cooper Cup with the one hand catch. That was a great play. I thought Jadarian Price looked great. Like I said yesterday, I didn't think they missed Kenneth Walker as good as he is. Price looked explosive. And I mean, he averaged over five yards of carry. He's probably going to get more carries going forward. I would imagine with with Darnel, as long as Darnel's out, but he looked every bit as capable of doing some damage. And I thought the defense, you know, obviously held him to 30 to 10 points was very good.

30:14They held them that they're running backs. Overall, New England got three and a half yards of carry. The running backs got two and a half yards of carry. So the defense was strong and obviously made the big plays as far as interception. So yeah, look, they got Arizona and Washington next. So I don't know how long Darnel's going to be out, but if he's out two or three weeks, they should be able to withstand. They'll come through that at least two and one and they should be probably three and a half. Yeah, they should be three and a half. They might need 10 points total to win those two games. That I am so impressed by Mike McDonald, by that organization and by that defense. They are returning most of their team from last year, but where they're missing guys is the secondary. Yeah. And Nicki Minwari, who you could argue is their second most important offensive player, was out with injury. And they didn't know he was going to be out two weeks ago, like he was a true game time decision. You have a bunch of guys who, you know, over the course of their careers have been discarded by other teams or, you know, undrafted guys who have been in the lead.

31:23And they are just an intimidating group. Yeah. And McDonnell, the Brian Flory in his first game as offensive coordinator with Drew Lock in there is facing a fourth and one on the plus side, which felt like the most obvious. Man, they're going to run the ball. You know, do everything they can to get the ball. I mean, that was unbelievable. And Jake Bulte, who was not even close to the fastest player in the league in that moment, looking like the fastest player in the league. I'm shocked he ran away from me. This game fast, it was so great. Yeah, but it's game three is different. But like there's no way he should, I mean, it's just like him under, I mean, 91 is alignment, but still like,

32:25and so I just, I am so impressed by Seattle figuring out how to win despite, as Coach was saying, they made, there were, how to say, the graphic penalties. We didn't even mention the roughing the quarterback. Yeah, the laid it out of bounds. Roughing the punter, the penalty, a shift that takes four points off the board. The fourth and one lining up off sides, and then not having to cast even run the play. Yeah. And so that, I just thought, I'm really, really impressed. And when we talk about them moving forward to out-darnled, they also have, they couldn't play him yesterday because he was the emergency third quarterback. So you're not allowed to play him unless both quarter-explanarth. But they have Jalen Milro on the roster, they spent a third round pick on, who could just be an interesting kind of option quarterbacks, you know, secondary pitch to throw out there in these upcoming games. From Chad Graf, the Patriots average 0.07 yards rushing

33:25before contact, 0.07. No team last season was lower than 0.5. So this plays were over. Like we did, it's like, oh, first and second. We can't running play second and 15. I thought you're off into blind. You did a better job in pass protection, the Super Bowl, obviously. Yeah. But got absolutely annihilated against the run. I agree with that. Yeah. Drake May, as the kids say, sold. Here's the numbers, coach. Pets up 10-0 with under 20 minutes left. Historically, those teams win 95% of the time. 1,162 and 64. Your reaction to Drake May's fourth quarter collapse. I went back and looked at the three interceptions. And then the first interception, he went to the right place. He had the right idea. And that ball just needs to be thrown a little bit further outside and not a rope. He ended up bringing it back inside and lofted it up. And that was the difference between a 30-yard completion and the interception. The protection was good on that play.

34:27All those things were good. You know, on the second interception, he misread the coverage a little bit. I think he thought it was quarter quarter half. And it was cover two. And a guy came over late. But was disappointing on that. And fairness to Drake, as the receiver fell down too. I think this would have been, he could have potentially contested this. And at least this next one. Not this one. This next one. This is the first one against cover two, where he throws it too far inside. This is the second one. On the second one, the backside safety comes over. He's really a middle-read guy. The receiver falls down. If the receiver doesn't fall down, he probably could have at least contested it. So this one, what I hated about this, now both tackles are digging for worms. And they're jumping. So you know this ball's got to come out quick. So if you're going to cut with the tackles, the ball's got to come out quick. He's got press man covered outside, which means you can throw the fade against press man, which is good. But what he does is he sits in the pocket, instead of throwing it right now, he's waiting for the receiver to clear, and he moves over to the right, then he throws it. Watch him throw it off of his back.

35:28It's a fade away. When he throws the ball, both feet are off the ground with three step protection, cut protection, you're moving in the pocket and throwing it off your back foot. It's just that this is by far the worst decision, not even close. And I'm not saying that because it ends up losing the game, I'm just saying all of it. It looked like rookie mistakes. Yeah, I don't know if he felt like he could, he would just give the receiver a second or two more to clear, but from a pure technique standpoint, to throw it off the ground and chuck it with a guy in your face, it just doesn't make any sense. Coach, there was a few plays. Was it his rookie year? That Will Levis made. One I think where he was on the ground, I believe he just chucked it like that. Spinning one was the worst one. And I said, I don't need to see anymore.

36:30If you're making that play, you're not ready. At this point in your career, to be the starting quarterback from my beloved Tennessee Titans, that play in the third quarter, even though we just saw Drake May and the Super Bowl, and I have utmost faith in Drake May. What play in the third quarter? Sorry, the fourth quarter, the third intercept. Oh, okay, the final intercept. The third intercept. Shook something foundationally. Foundationally, in my belief of Drake May, that I'm like, this is such a bad decision. Like, it boggles the mind, and I'm like, have I been wrong about Drake May? Again, I don't know if I'm going through some sort of depression, but does that shake your faith in Drake May? No, look, you're going through some sort of depression. And it is the first time in the season. And it is against a very good defense. I don't think they have all the problems fixed on the offensive line by any stretch, and I know we say they did a better, what was it, two sex or three sex? Three, he was sex. So three sex in the Super Bowl was what, four?

37:31Four in the Super Bowl? Four, one in a pressure. Six, okay, six and eleven pressure. Six and eleven pressure. But a lot of the reason those sex got cut in half is how quickly Josh was using a lot more quick passes, and the things were coming out. They were helping the O-line. I'm protecting the O-line in a lot of ways. But on that drive, there were a lot of things that Drake May did really well. And I personally don't understand why they went for it on the 30-yard line with 349 left in the fourth quarter, with all three timeouts and the two-minute warning on fourth and two. But that to me tells me they either have incredible confidence in Drake May in that situation, or no confidence in the defense in that situation, because typically you would punt there only down by three points and play the field position game. But he converts on that, great play, and there's another fourth down too, right? The fourth and nine was his best throw of the game. I don't know if that was a macro. So in that drive, he converts on a fourth and two and a fourth and nine, those things were really encouraging.

38:33He puts them in a position to win the game. Yeah. The going to the outside receiver and pressman coverage in the red zone is not a bad decision. The decision to move in the pocket, hold the ball and throw it off your back foot. That was the bad decision. The read was fine. The read was fine. But the execution of the play after that, not good. On the first interception, the read was fine. The throw was just slightly inside. But it was a nice... He made questionable throws on it. We talked about earlier, the flea flicker, when he under threw AJ Brown, he ended up working out because they got the pass and a interference. But... AJ Brown's wide open. When Brown was wide open. So he wasn't throwing it well. And we talked about... You guys talked about Romeo and Dubs and his drop and how meaningful that was. Yeah, hold on. I don't mean to interrupt. I agree. Listen, Dubs was awful. There's just no denying it. And they missed the... I saw my team last year in Game 1 of the season

39:34have the wide receiver they thought was going to be their number one receiver. Get injured and throw off that whole game plan. Yeah. So, you know what I mean? I do want to say, maybe there's... It didn't look super crisp before AJ Brown went down. And it wasn't quite as early in the game as Xavier wore these. But maybe that threw things off. And now everybody's... It hurt me. It hurt some... I get all of that. But there are two points I want to make quickly. One is on the first interception. I would have a lot more grace for that pick if it were a different time score situation of the game. You're up 10-3 against a backup quarterback on second and nine. You don't need to go big game hunting there. I understand your point coach that... It wasn't big game. Coach, it's 30 yards down the side. You want to hit a double cover? It is big game hunting. There's two of them. Hold on, hold on. It's not double coverage. It's a cover two. Okay. It's a whole shot that most quarterbacks can make. It's got to hit 25 yards deep on a rope. That's where the throw...

40:34He's got good protection. The guy was clean. He left to go late. So we're not... So it's not... This is not double coverage. Okay, so I understand he's not... The receiver's not being doubled. I apologize. I should have used the phrase. There's two defenders in the area. It is certainly more likely to go poorly than the check down he had open to get you to third and short in a game. The other team has not scored at all. So that is a mental mistake along with a physical mistake. I will not say this is a mental... This is not a mental error. This was a poor throw. But he was fine with throwing that ball if he had thrown it correctly. No, I understand what the point is. That I'm making is I think it was... It was the beginning of a trend of what I consider riskier than necessary decisions in a game they had in hand. Including in the... When you're talking about the final play of the game,

41:36it's... When you have overtime in your back pocket, I understand you can try to win it before overtime. Then you better not make the mistake. And so that's concerning. And the other thing that I want to say is... And this is something I'll be watching throughout the year. Because I'm next to two of the biggest Josh McDaniels believers in the world. I am open to the possibility that Josh McDaniels wealth of knowledge and experience and acumen give Drake May in the Patriots offense the unlimited easy buttons against 75% of the defenses in football. But against the top defenses right now he is consistently getting outskinked. That the other... The coordinator or defense coordinator, defense of Ed coach on the other side has more answers than Josh McDaniels. That is concerning and that could lead to great stats against most teams you play

42:36and then the quarterback can often struggling against the better teams. Those to me are very fair concern. I mean is it you just said he could hit the check down. So you said it was Drake May's mental error. Yes. Because he didn't hit the check down. So is that a bad call? No, that... I don't think that was a bad call. What's going on with that call? I don't think that was a bad call. What's going on with that call? I think having all off season to prepare a game plan and I'm Mike McDonald, pull your pants down again is alarming. 43:38And the Rams, here's the update from the Rams, they're in Australia. Here's Sean McVey with Stafford. Fight was great. Well rested, we feel good. It really was. No, it was, we were just talking about that on the way over here. It was able to sleep through the night. Guys were comfortable. They seemed fresh and get a good night rest tonight and be ready to rock tomorrow. Hey, are the Rams on upset alert? Coach, there are a lot of reasons that I want to say yes. Division will match up. Weird game. I don't think the in and out of Australia helps the Rams in week one. It might help them later in the season, but not in week one. So a lot of reasons I'd like to say yes. But as you know about me, I value defense in the enough. These are. You bet. My calling card. And I think one of the more underrated stories headed into this season is the Niners defense might, for the first time in a long time, just be bad.

44:38They, a detackled that they drafted in the second round last year. Just two days ago popped his patella tendon. They are starting a guy in Keon White. The Patriots gave away. They are starting a guy. Former great for them. Dre Greenlaw, who the Broncos cut in the off season. Nick Bosa, you know, he's off the injury report. This is his first game back. I don't like really any of their secondary. They lost Robert Sala. I just wonder if the, even if the Niners offense can move the ball. Because no Aaron Donald, Miles Garrett was kind of limited throughout training camp. So he's not 100% in, and Ram's secondary knew together. Not, and they played together actually, the two guys. But new in that system. Even if the Niners can move the ball, can they get any stops? And so I'm skeptical of that. So that's the one reason I'd say no. I think the Niners defense might be a big problem for them all year. Whenever you have the first game of the season, I think everybody's a little bit on upside alert because you just don't know what to expect from your opponent.

45:39And how well your guys are going to gel together. And you talked about the guys that the Rams brought in in the secondary and with Miles. And a little bit of Miles missing practice. Remember when Matthew Stafford missed a ton of practice last year? And he was in the A-Mortal Chamber. I think Miles might be in the A-Mortal Chamber too. It's a feel like see. It worked out okay. I'm concerned about the receivers. San Francisco's receivers. And how that's going to play out. But there's no home field advantage here obviously because everybody's playing at a different spot. And then we're going to get to see the great sleep experiment. And that's to me a unique part of this equation is to have a one team that's been there for a weekend. And totally adjusted to the time zone. And another team that just flew in. That to me is the great unknown as to how this is going to affect the group in its entirety. I'm not doing this for the show. I'm just doing it from my heart. Great.

46:39I know yesterday I said, Perty had no chance about playing Stafford. Now woke up feeling dangerous. Or at least like brought me to danger. I'm calling the upset. Nice. Now the alert. Thank you. I got the Niners winning this game. Thank you, bro. I think we'll play what he obviously knows how to play them. We're back. Yeah. And I'm not saying he's going to be the MVP or anything like that. 56:48Are you just a guy that's going to stack numbers against the bad or mediocre teams, the tomato cans? Or are you a guy that can do it as well against the top teams, the contenders in the league? That is the question. And I'm guessing it is the question among at least some of the fan base in New England right now. Are you, you were darn near there early on the show. He's got to play the Cincinnati Bengals and go ahead and head with Joe Burrow. It should be an extremely high scoring game. He's going to have to be able to match that point for point. The Cincinnati Bengals defense has been much aligned. But now they've revamped it. Traits, the draft, free agency money. So, whether or not you're going to be able to go in there and match Joe Burrow in that high-powered offense. Here's my concern. Here's why I was worried about resigning Baker to a long-term contract. If we can bring up the numbers, this to me is what's going to continue to be a concern for. He's had 45 turnovers since he's been a buck. And that's the most in the NFL. So, can you go out and match those points without now generating points for your opponent or putting your team in a bad position by turning the ball over? And can you justify a Tampa Bay's faith in you that you've done a lot of good things.

59:53But now we've got to see this translate into something great here. Well, and he's happy. I agree with you. And I'm not saying he's not going to play well, but an upset Baker has been the best. That's been the best. So, we'll see if he can live up. Also, sometimes we are critical of the punny stuff our producers do on the bar. That's outstanding. Yeah. Baker's good. That one. Hey, Christian Gonzalez held JSN without a reception on two targets across ten coverage matches. JSN was targeted on half of his routes against all other patrons. Why?

1:10:05The Jags have an excellent defense. The in Buffalo is one of your most important games of the year. We can argue about how, you know, how good they are. Raiders and Jets should be two of your softer games. At Chicago would be the first week, I think he could be back. And that's a tough game. Like, I'm not saying get late early for New England. I am saying, I think one in three is very on the board. And would have been if AJ didn't get hurt. And I'm, I mean, I'm going to be one of those. They're underdogs in Jacksonville and in Buffalo. All I'm saying is, we're talking about how great Seattle is, right? They're a great team. And we're talking about how poorly Drake may played. And yet New England had a chance to put the game in overtime if he doesn't make the bad decision. And had a chance to win the game and was leaving the game for a lot of that game against what everybody is saying. This is a great team. It's a great defense.

1:11:07Okay. But, but I don't think that the sky is falling and the world is ending. And they went toe to toe throughout the whole game. It didn't end the way they wanted to. The odds of him having another three interception game is pretty small. They should be getting back, Trayvian Henderson. You know, there's, so let's, let's not get too dramatic over the first game. Sorry, coach. I had the bagpipe guy out here and went through it, changed the door to us. Missing AJ Brown for a month plus would be a big deal. Yeah, it's not, it's not great, but they, they'll work through it and, and they did a lot of good things in that game. Didn't work out the way they wanted to, but odds are you're not going to have your quarterback throw three interceptions in the game moving forward. Well, I just have full brew. If the Patriots get a little bit hot and it just so happens that the sea hogs are the Super Bowl champions and we are kryptonite. And then all of a sudden AJ Brown comes back, that might have listened and oh my from you. I just don't expect them to get hot because I'm with Nick.

1:12:10Like I get how good the out of this, but it was with Drew Locke. You know, and look, we saw it. If you want to hang your hat in this is legit. Remember when Buffalo lost to the Jets when Aaron Rogers got hurt early in the game and then Josh Allen was bad. So yeah, it's not a death knell, but coach, I think their receiving court now without AJ Brown is bad. Like it, I mean, Matt Collins or Romeo, like he's a good number three receiver. That's right. That's what you said. But now he's the number two or one receiver. Dives is one or two. Like I just think they now have a poor receiving core. They're playing better competition than they faced last year. And let's drake. You know, digs, digs and booty look pretty good now compared to what they have until AJ gets back. We got no, just very quickly. My faith in the Patriots was based in. I really liked the head coach.

1:13:11I think the quarterback is going to be a star and I thought AJ Brown was a big addition. The quarterback is right now in the midst. Let's just call it up and a prolonged slump dating back the last year. AJ Brown is injured. The offensive line does not seem fixed. The defense again as far as ability to generate a pass rush does not seem fixed. And the schedule is much tougher. There is, there is, I'm not saying, you know, I had him in the playoffs. I have him out, but there are real reasons for concern. And when one of your highest paid guys makes it through two quarters and then he might be out for six weeks. That's a problem. You are right. If they're three and one, then you're in great shape. But if they can easily, there's three and one. This is a supernatural funcure system. No, right now it's not even a funcure system. Right now it's a terrible game. Drew Locke. It looked pretty good. It's 16 for 22, 187 yards, no turnovers. Coach, you surprised Drew Locke led the C-AX 2-8 comeback win. Yeah, I, I am.

1:14:12Drew played a minimum on a snap slash last year. I think it was two or three snaps last year. And to be able to go into a game after two or three snaps in the game, knowing that all week and all during the preparation, you got very limited amount of reps. And, and, you know, in a pressure filled moment. And, and to perform the way that he did, they were, they were hiccups. The, the cadence issues were, were problem. It hurt them and, and prevent them from scoring a touchdown. So there were things that they have to work through. But maybe this is his Sam Darnel moment. Maybe this is his opportunity over the next four games. So, hey, with a, with a really good team, I can be just as productive as some of these other guys. And, and that's to me, what is nice about this for him, as he gets an opportunity with a really good football team to go show that he can be a quality quarterback in the NFL. And, and he's throwing more touchdowns than interception in his career, which you can't say that for a lot of sort of backups or journeyman type guys. And, there was a lot of promise and a lot of hope early in his career

1:15:14that he could evolve into something special. So this could be his second act. Yeah, he obviously got better as the game went on to your point with the operation and everything. And that'll get better with him now in practice as the number one guy. I wouldn't say he led the comeback. He made the great throw to Cooper, Cooper Cup. That was with the one hand catch. But, I mean, Drake just handed it to him on a platter. He took it. Yeah, I mean, really, that's really what it was. But he took it. And again, I mentioned earlier, Arizona and Washington, they got their next two. So they should be three and oh, at worst two and one. And, you know, he's got a run game. He's got great weapons on the outside. So he should be able to. He should be able to. He should be fine with it. We don't yet know the severity of Donald's injury. I thought, I thought, like played really well. And got better as it went on. I also, we talk about this every year, week one's a bit of a liar.

1:16:14Like, you don't know what, why you're seeing what you're seeing. So if, if we were to able to, you know, fast forward ten weeks and the Patriots have the number four past defense in the NFL, then it's like, man, look, great job, Drew Lock. If we fast forward ten weeks and the Patriots can't generate pressure, and every quarterback has a heyday against them, that makes this look differently. So we don't know that piece yet. If Donald is out a significant period of time, I would expect, I would be surprised if Seattle doesn't add a quarterback. So Brian Flory worked with for years available, Jimmy Garoppolo in San Francisco. And I also would wonder if the Raiders transition to Mendoza, if they call up about cousins. As a, listen, I know they have jail in Mill Row, but he has very little experience. They have lock. But if it's like, hey, Donald's not done for the year, but we're going to put them on the short term IR. We think we'll be back in six to eight weeks. I would expect them to add a veteran quarterback. They feel pretty confident that Donald's coming back sooner than later.

1:17:15They keep, I mean, they are alluding to that. But I want to, you know, if he's out for two weeks, I don't think they'll sign somebody. Yeah, but I also like a mini buy. It's Wednesday, you know, next Thursday. A lot of time. Yeah. We'll get our first look at Miles Garrett in a Rams jersey tonight. Last time he played Brock, Brown's lost, but he did have three QB hits and a sack. Brew, multi-sack game for Miles tonight. I may be high because I think the line nick is it 0.75 or something. Yeah. I'm going to say one and a half sacks. I think he gets home, you know, gets home. Like I said, I'm picking the upset with the Niners. But yeah, I think Garrett will get home a couple of times and I'm going 1.5. I would imagine if it's an upset for the Niners, then no, he's not going to have multiple sacks. If the Niners are chasing points late in the game, if they're down by two scores, that to me is where you got a chance. I think I have one.

1:18:15I don't necessarily think he's going to get two. Because they're going to game, they're not going to let him ruin the game. And I believe Shen and when he said he, there was a sigh of relief that Darnold's not playing. So now you can say, OK, if this becomes more of a problem, you've got some protection packages, some ways to deal with him if he becomes too disruptive. I'm going to, before I get my answer, I want to ask you a question. If he has lined up across from Trent Williams, if he's playing right defensive end, can you, is Trent Williams one of the only human beings on the planet that you can just leave one on one against Miles Garrett? You would like to think he is. Now, we're a year further on in Trent Williams. Let's say he's as good as he was last year. Like is that something you'd be comfortable with? Yeah, I would imagine that would be one of those things where Trent would win a bunch of them and Miles would win a bunch of them. It's a fair fight. But they're both going to have their moment. And I know that he might not be lined up there that often. He might be on the opposite side more often.

1:19:15That is the, I don't really consider myself a football nerd, but I have some football nerd tendencies. What, Kate? You don't get to know some football nerds. I think the football nerds are the same. I think I used to be the lip thinger. You know what? When I got into media 20 years ago, I was definitely a footballer. You've actually been. But now that I have been so out-nerded, now we've got folks who are like here are the dots and look at me. I'm breaking down the plate from my garden. And like I can't do it. You're a better out-nerded. I've been out-nerded. There's no question about it. With that said, I will be, I think Trent Williams has an argument that of this generation, he's the best left-hack. And Miles Garrett, there is no argument that of this generation, he's the best-passed, I had Drusher. And so seeing them whenever we get to see him one-on-one, I think it's very exciting. I would go under two-sacks. Quizzacks feels like a big moment. A quick-leak coach. I know you're always balancing your pragmatism

1:20:15and just sort of watching the game as a fan. It felt like me, I test-wise, the Seahawks just sort of popped off. The defense just popped. Oh, I could see that defense carrying that team back to the Super Bowl. Could anything in tonight's game pop for you? Or are you just all like, eh, it's week one. I'm not going to put too much credit into anything. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the Rams secondary plays. Infusing those two players from Kansas City. And then the addition, and the effect that Miles Garrett has on the secondary. So when you had a great pass rusher, falls usually we have to come out quicker. So that, to me, is a really interesting component of tonight's game. That's what I want to see. You still got the Rams? I mean, you still got the 49ers, bro. Yeah. I mean, you picked it 40 minutes ago. Yeah, I don't know, but he didn't pick it yesterday. Well, is that Congress is upset alert this week? No, no, no, no, no. You have to have this, I'm sorry. We were cutting and you know, was trying to, you know, get rid of it and, you know, realize we're, you know, Mack was in back there in the back and didn't put enough on it, you know, to get it out and it was just unacceptable. You know, we were chance to send it over time at the worst. And the only thing you do is turn the ball over and sweat it. He's great on the podium, even in bad plays. May's pass attempts before his third interception. Last year it took 208. This year was 32. Number 33 was that interception. Larger, bigger picture concerns anybody. I think that what happens sometimes is Drake may all off season, what's he heard? He's a silver medalist for the MVP. Yeah. He's unbelievable. He's the next Tom Brady, all the consistent hype behind his progress. So instead of him being a third year player who's really the second year in the system,

1:23:18the second year in development, did a ton of good things last year, overachieved in a lot of ways. He definitely overachieved. Now the expectation shift, and sometimes what you've got to realize is what you were doing before was good enough, and you don't have to press to make plays. You don't have to be something you aren't. And it felt like that to me last night. There was a ton of great stuff in that last drive. He converted on two four downs. He made some really, really pressure type plays in big moments. He did that all the last year, but you listen to the hype, you fed this hype, and now you're trying to be something that you're maybe not ready to be, and it can be as detrimental as anything else. So just take a step back, recalibrate, move on to the next week, and there's a ton of the season left. Thank you, coach. KW have a question for you. Yeah, I'd love to hear it. Who do you expect to have the best season of the quarterbacks in the AFC East?

1:24:22Trick May. You do. Yes. Okay, so you're... Because you got Josh. It's 90 minutes ago I felt like your confidence was very wavered. I know, but... But now you're back to being better than Josh Allen? Look, the last time we saw Josh Allen play, he had four turnovers. Yes. And the last time we saw Drake May get three. Yes. No, no, no, no. So, no. I mean, they're both kind of haunted by the same bug, which is I'm going to be a little reckless of the ball due to much. So, but that's... The thing is that wasn't... Drake May's bug at all until the post season. Right. He had 31 touchdowns, eight picks last year, in 17 games. He had seven picks in his last five to go along with seven fumbles. This is... Put him in. But at least, it feels like he's pushing. So me, I didn't just rule. Yeah, certainly. I thought it was noteworthy that the second interception came after the Dobbs drop. I didn't think that was just a random thing. He's like, okay.

1:25:22It looks like Drake May will do this now, if you're going to drop the ball. I didn't think it was random. Maybe it totally was. The Dobbs drop came after the Drake May interception. Maybe Josh said it like... He's right. Not that it literally didn't... What, next point? Um... So, I am... I... I remember... We batted around the different podium positions of that class of quarterbacks, which looks like it could be a great, great class. And Coach got mad because Jaden got left behind. I... You know, I think that is going to continue to jostle over the course of the year when it felt like... Headed into the postseason last year. Drake had... Lapped the field. That now, you know what I mean? That has changed. And if we can throw up just real quick dust, the deep passes thing. This has raised to level of major concern to me.

1:26:25Of how much of Drake May's... Like, what we thought was brilliance was an unsustainable hot streak on deep bombs. And what we thought was one of their biggest strengths actually is... Are they below average at it? That is something to me that is legitimately worthy of concern and continue watching. Is the other... My other takeaway from that is... Drake, I think, and the offense started to believe, oh, we're great at this. So, they do it twice as much now from two-a-game to four-a-game. And they're a third as successful at it. That part to me is not worthy of concern. It's not nothing. Well, let's be fair, too. Weeks 1 through 8 last year. Teams were... I don't know if this overstatement taken the Patriots lightly. No, that's... But, you know, they weren't on anybody's radar. It's a really good team. Second half of the season is like, okay, they're a good team. We have to deal with not to mention you were playing a lesser caliber of teams scheduled

1:27:28in your playing this year. I'm... Look, I see the talent. I see the potential. But I'm with Drake, where I'm at, with Jayden and CJ and all these. I know he had the best season because he was second in MVP. Were you there before this game? I was. I was. I was. Yeah, I was. Oh, yeah, bro. I just wanted to see several years. Well, I just feel like... That's where you got to credit the Mahomes, the Lamar, the Burrow, like, they've done it. They've done so. You know, they've done great, great quarterbacks. Are you gonna have it one time? Right? I mean, are we gonna have 12 great quarterbacks at one time? Yeah. I mean, so we've seen a lot... And I know RG3 was the injury, but he came back and just never was the same. We've seen a lot of guys have one great year and then... Jerry's out on a bunch of them. But I think the Jerry's out on Drake. I'm not saying he's not solid, but... I saw last night, and what I saw in the playoffs was what they said about him coming out.

1:28:32He's greatly talented, strong arm, all that, but something makes some bad decisions. Whether it's decision-making coach or just the ball gets away from him too much. But whatever it is, that was what they were saying and him coming out of college. And remember, he had the phenomenal year, his second year in North Carolina. And then his third year, he declined, but he still was good, but he declined a bit. So... Who did I say you reminded me of? Sam Donald. Sam Donald. And that's how it was Sam Donald's at Mo & College. He's been way better, obviously, to this point. Well, probably went to a much better situation in New England than where Sam Donald wanted to come. I'm saying there was that element of almost 50-50 touchdowns in exceptions. And that can be problematic. And to be fair to Drake now, one thing that does help deep-alls is of running game so that play-action is more meaningful, an offensive line that can hold up and not have to dive into the dirt to cut block everybody. Like those things are important for all of it to work together.

He can't get open at the end of the game, or of course, the terrible drop. It's Drake May's worst game of his career, right? First three interception game. You have to at least be open to the possibility that some of the criticism of the schedule and the backup quarterbacks and the easy opponents is on the board here. Because now it's five games against the Chargers, the Broncos, the Texans, and two against Seattle, albeit all good to great defenses. But like, those are the teams you're... I think you could just say great defenses. I think they're top five defense. I mean, I think the Chargers defense overachieved a little bit of a group. But the Texans, the Broncos, Seattle, are all great defenses. Clearly all top five defenses, if not the three best. But like, those are the teams you're gonna need to beat in order to get to a Super Bowl,

1:37:47and it all happened against Drew Lock. So like the idea of just the missed opportunity, where if you win that game in a lot of ways, when I said this before the game happens, so I can be consistent on this, like I would have felt as a Patriots fan, like retroactively that it would have validated a lot of last year. Like they got worse, we got better, we went into their house, we beat them, we're here to build on last year, and this is the beginning of like a long runway. But the fact that you lost that game to Drew Lock and got your dogs skunked, I don't know how you recover from it. So, frankly. And I wanna add something, because I tried to make this point earlier in the A block, and you like snap, disagreed with it. But I wanna see if I, trust a coaching staff has in a quarterback. Eight, let's say, the highest possible version of it is peak Tom Brady, whatever that was.

1:38:49That the quarterback is going to not lose us the game. He's going to make the right decision. The lowest version of it is the moment after Will Levis did the Worley bird thing, and Brian Calle and Flipped out, right? I am starting to believe the Patriots coaching staff has a little less faith in Drake May's ability to when need be manage the game than I otherwise thought. When, because the fact that, I know your point is, AFC championship game, you know, you're up against Jared Stedem, it was just so clear they weren't going to score. That is though a riskier way to go about your business being like, we have 10 points that's all we need. That's because football's weird. Dumb things happen. Other people make mistakes. Running backs fumble, punts get muffed. Like you're, as opposed to,

1:39:50I know he's not gonna make, he knows we can't turn the ball over, but we're gonna go try to score more points. The Super Bowl, while losing, it felt like they were, we don't want this thing to get out of hand before Darnold has a chance to lose it for us, for them. So they were very conservative there. And then this game, as soon as Locke went out, it was like, we are fine punting the ball, run the ball, punt, and it felt too conservative to me. And then the fourth quarter felt like, oh crap, did that validate their approaches in these games? Do they, is what, Vrable and McDaniel know about Drake is, all this talent, all this but, has a little more, like shades of jay miss, early in Tampa, than that we have let the world see. That we have seen a guy who really believes in the ability to make the big play, never wants to give up on something, always thinks, oh, I can fit that in there.

1:40:51And we need, and so that to me, there's now growing evidence A, that they might feel that way, and B, there might be reason to feel that way. And that's a little concerning. That's the point I was trying to make earlier, I don't know if I made it right, but like that, that would be a worry for me. Yeah, I'm not too worried about that, just because if there's like, look, it's a bad throw, like Coach Mangini said, it needs to be three feet to the sideline, rather than inside, and that gets picked. But that one is just like, it's just a throw. It's like, I see, I disagree with Coach on that throw. I think it's a bad decision. I don't think you needed to take that chance. Not this one, this one we all know, but the first thing is. This, but I put that, this one in a wildly different category, it's the first one. Worst case scenario, it gets picked, and you start at the 10 or whatever. And I like doing this once or twice a game. So I didn't hate this, but I'd rather it be caught.

1:41:56I don't think that you give Romeo Dobbs 68 million and trade a first round pick for AJ Brown, if the, with a quarterback in year three, with a great offensive coordinator, coming off of the runner up for MVP, if you're like, our goal is to win 10-7. But it did feel like the goal last night was to win 10-7, which was weird. Like that's what I, I think that they absolutely have made actionable moves, like actions over words, like their actions have suggested they think they can be a top 10 offense. Not last night. No, I mean, that, but that's might be, we're playing some more than anybody. No, I agree. But I'm like, man, this Seahawks team just looks great. And we've spent a lot of time on the Patriots, but we'll get to the Seahawks now. They score 13 points, and the defense did look spectacular. Sam Darnell will definitely miss next week, but Mike McDonald says it's just a, quote, muscle thing. So they're moderately optimistic. Here's JSN. Test them into our team, just having each other's back, offense, special team, defense, never wavering.

1:42:57Understanding that is a four-quarter game. That's something I was praying to see on the sideline, and it came to fruition, and, man, whoof, they had our backs, you know, right there. We can always count on our defense, but it's defense and a league. All right, your number one takeaway from Seattle. I got a mild, a medium and a spicy. Oh, nice. Wow, what do you want? I like to say that. So it's three. I'm not giving you one. You want to give us all, yeah, in that order. Yeah, mild, medium, spicy. Yes. All right, mild. Great segment. Seahawks are the team to beat. That's mild. That's mild. They're the team to the World Champions. They're the Super World Champions. They just did that in that spot without their quarterback. They overcame it. They deserve it. You can say that the Rams were like the odds makers, make them the favorite. You don't have to pick them, but like, the league goes through Seattle for this year, as of this moment. I think that they have proven that like last year, not a fluke, they backed it up. Seahawks are the team to beat. That's mild. Medium.

1:43:57Medium. Mike McDonald is defensive Sean McVeigh. Like, he might be the best coach in football, and I am, you know how much of an offensive guy. I am like, I want the offensive difference maker. There are more offensive difference makers than defensive difference makers. So like, the idea that he might be that, and he is younger than Sean McVeigh, is just, we have to include him. When we talk about McVeigh, Kyle Shanahan, Ben Johnson, like, he might actually be more valuable than all of them. Domingo is awesome. Domingo is in that conversation, sure. But like, he might actually be more valuable than all of them because it's rare. Like, I mean, he made, what was the guy's name? He made a Wusu. He made him look like Derek Brooks last night. Like, the defense was unbelievable. But before you get to the spicy, just real quick. Yeah. And I know you'd be very sad about this. But even with all the same about Mike McDonald, Ben Johnson tomorrow was like, you know what, I'm retiring.

1:44:57Um, and the Bears oddly could have Mike McDonald or just Sean McVeigh. No, Kevin O'Connell. No, no, no, I would take Mike McDonald. Oh, okay. I would take my title. It's to you. You know what, I think, okay, because the thing is, Danny doesn't really like defensive coaches. I like this guy. And I love how he's like Mike McDonald, who eight months ago won a Super Bowl. He's like, has moved up to the Ben Johnson level. I'm sorry. And he's moved up next to the Ben Johnson Kyle Shan and Lowe. Wow. Wow. Defense is, don't normally stay the same. What's the third over? What's the third place? By C time. Patriots record of 21 straight wins. Might be in trouble. Wow. So they want, they want, what are they now, Danny? They're at 11. So do we have the schedule? Oh, we have the schedule. They won seven to end the regular season, three in the playoffs, and one here. The Patriots drew 0-3 to 0-4. They drew on 21 in a row. So they need, they need 10 to tie, which would then give them

1:46:01the by-week before week 12 at the Niners to get it. What about it? And then Monday night football against the Cowboys to break. So you're assigning Darnal back. Right. Well, yeah. So the Darnal piece is obviously the variable here. But if it's a couple of weeks, they're beating the Cardinals in Washington, without Sam Darnal. You have the chargers at home. They're going to be favored in every game that it would take to beat it, except maybe at Denver, depending on the number of the players. So not with, I mean, if you've got Darnal coming back by week four. If Darnal is back by week four, their favorite in every game it would take for them to set the record for consecutive wins, except maybe at Denver. And that depends on how Denver looks the first five. And give them 8% change. 8%? Yeah, just think about it. That defense is so good. But even if they're 80% to win each of those games, they're going to be able to get 8% high.

1:47:03Like an 80%? I understand. A 10 game, you know, 80% parlay is, you know, 0.8 to the 10th power if you want to do it at home, kids. It's going to be less than 8%. Last team to start 12 and 0 was the 15 Panthers. It's not the 20 Steelers started, started 10 and 0. Like we see teams get off to a hot start every year. They just took care of the AFC champs with their backup quarterback. The defense looks like it's carried over. They don't see a real weakness on the team. They're going to be favored in all of the games. I still think people are under rating and under appreciating what Seattle is. Well, I'm both sides of the ball. And I did look. I was wrong, Lashir. I didn't think they win the Super Bowl last year. But I don't think they're as good as you are saying. They Drake May gave them that game last night. And I get it. It losing with Drew Locke as the quarterback wouldn't have been any real shame. But that wasn't Drake May being under duress, like in the Super Bowl, where he's running for his life

1:48:04trying to make stuff happen. That was him making bad decisions or if coaching bad throws. But if Drake May doesn't just completely melt down, they're O and one. So I don't think they're, and I also am baking in just some of the, even on the subconscious level, complacency that can come in after you've won the Super Bowl. We've seen very few. I mean, is it Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes are the quarterbacks that have won back-to-back Super Bowls in this century? So I just do not think Seattle is the team to be. And depending on how long Darnold is out, I think if he's out a significant stretch, then I think they're going to have some else. Well, listen, if he's out eight weeks, it changes everything. But let's just for the sake of the discussion for a moment, say that he is back week four against the Chargers.

1:49:06You don't think, Drew, you don't think that they have stamped themselves at the moment at the very least as still the best team in the NFC? No. Wow. No. Let's see what the Rams can do. The sight unseen Rams. Yeah, that's, I mean, absolutely. Because I understand that the Rams, like you're picking the cowboys, you go to Super Bowl. But that's a different story than who is like the best team mantle right now. No, like I said, last night they were handed the game. But they almost, I mean, they could have easily lost that game. Another way to look at that is they almost pitched a shut out. The one touchdowns on an underthroened, deep ball defensive PI and then the field goal comes after the Seattle runs into the punter. Seattle has 10 penalties in that time. Their penalties definitely. No, Seattle's defense. The defense is great. It jumped off the screen against a team that should be a really good also. So I, so I, I'm not, you know, I'm not as high on the pats as, I mean, I, I agree with the defense point. And I listen, let's just, let's, because I brought up

1:50:07the DPI thing earlier, what's also true is that AJ Brown was wide open. Like you don't, I mean, that was the, it was, it was, it was a bad throw by Drake May. So give it like a trick play. If you're going to have to like win on a tree, we didn't really, we had the one touchdown set up by that. No, but that's what was a little secondarily concerning for me with the pats like, oh, man, you know, Josh Mjano's was like hoping not to have to use that play in the first three quarters of week one. Um, but that, but that worked great. But I think the Seattle offense actually was better than the 13 point suggest. They had a touchdown taken off the board because of an illegal shift. That was a great play call that just a young quarterback didn't get everybody set. I think they, they had a second and one from the three that they got a delay of game on because of, uh, I think they had the young quarterback and they were trying to get the playing. So I think Seattle pretty easily could have had 21 last night. Instead of 13.

1:51:07If Sam Donald was in there, that could have gotten ugly. Yeah. And so to your point, though, while I'm not, the defense is great for Seattle. But Drake may march down the field on that last possession. Yeah. And was, was definitely going to tie the game. If not, go ahead and win it. No, but it was, it was not for some. Mark said on the field having face two, four downs. It was, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, but the march, this is what impressed me. I used it as a positive Drake May stat, Danny, but I also thought it was just a testament to how good this team was. The C-hawks, uh, immediately sacked, kickoff penalty sack right away. All right, second and 21 all of a sudden. Then it was fourth to do it. Then it was third and 19. It was like, can we just get third and 10 even I would be happy with. Fourth and nine. Then it was second and 17. Like we were constantly having plays go back. Well, what, what sells in the fourth quarter? Having that nine splash negative plays, they forced in the fourth quarter.

1:52:11Three picks, three sacks, three TFLs for Seattle. Yeah. Those are all separate plays. The day for some. Well, yeah, they couldn't break it. Drake just makes them bad play. Well, the sacks and the TFLs brew are then blowing up the offensive. I'm talking about the interceptions though. It's just terrible plays. That's really good. Uh, too soon to hit the Patriots panic button. No, the C-hawks are just really, really good. That's on the board. Yeah. Frontamies. Thanks for hanging out with us. Well, didn't feel like a blowout, even though it was. Well, last night, Pat suffered. I felt like an all time collapse despite being up just 10-nothing. Here's C-hawks head coach Mike McDonald on the win. Take a listen. What an electric atmosphere. Just the emotions of the banner. Just a really special night to be a C-hawk man and just really, really incredibly proud of our team. Thankful for the 12s. Just the amount of resilience.

1:53:13Nick, I could make the case on either side. So love this question. That's what you have to do when you're a high school state debate champ. That's right. You have to prepare both sides of it. Oh, shucks. I had to buy it on the other side. You had a 2005 side of it. You have to prepare both sides of it and be able to get going. Illinois State debate. Yeah. It's not a big deal. Bigger story. Patriots, collapse, or C-hawks come back. Listen, the C-hawks are the defending Super Bowl champions. They have their quarterback knocked out of the game and they found a way to come back. They trusted Drew Locke on a fourth and one to throw the ball. They did a lot of things that deserve massive credit. But that fourth quarter from Drake May, it wasn't unprecedented, but it's about a once-a-year occurrence across the league. Three fourth quarter interceptions. Here's the last five times it happened and who did it? We go in chronological order. Five years ago, a tight end cost playing as a quarterback did. A year later, one of the most turnover prone players in NFL history, James Winston,

1:54:17fresh off a 30 interception, not fresh off, but a guy who once had a 30 interception season. Two a tongue of Iloa, Zach Wilson, and it hasn't happened in three years and then Drake May. It in the last decade, the only player to throw three picks in a fourth quarter that they had the lead going into the fourth, it's happened one time it was Andy Dalton. That's a collapse and it's the type of cataclysmic is too strong of a word, obviously. But it is a resonant collapse because if there was Danny, any questions in the back of your mind about, oh, we sure have heard a lot about the schedule last year. If there were any doubts or any insecurities about how good you actually are and Drake may as like, man, I basically played 17 awesome games in a row last year and the playoffs started. I played four bad ones in a row. So out of this year, I just think it's going to have more a longer tail for the Pat

1:55:22Thane for Seattle. All right. So even though I can make the case for both sides, I agree with you. The point I would make on Seattle before I kind of pile onto the Patriot side of it is I do think that there is more fluctuation year to year on the defensive side of the ball. So the fact that Seattle could lose Kobe Bryant in free agency, lose boy at Maffe in free agency, not have M and Warry in this game and come out against the team that has AJ Brown, Romeo Dobbs, the runner up for MVP, one of the best offensive coordinators in football and not pitch a shut out, but play an unbelievably clean game in a dominant fourth quarter. And I think that those interceptions by May were bad, but I do think a lot of it was confusion. I think that they are one of the best coach defenses. And so just like, oh, Seattle is picking right up where they left off. And even with Drew Ack, the fact that they can do that against one of the 10 best teams in football, wildly impressive for them. But the reason why it is the collapse is this could with the AJ Brown injury and if Drake

1:56:28May is going to spotter against good teams and that's going to be the thing. And we can put up the Drake May graphic and I asked for the exact same thing that you put up in regulation, but I just want to talk it through with you. Like Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, Buffalo coming up. If the column on the right, he's going to be better than that. I think Drake May is a very talented football player. But if you can't count on him to beat the good teams in the big spots, I just think it would be something that would shake my confidence as a Patriots fan because they had the easiest schedule in 20 years. He beat a ton of backup, Porterbacks. He beat a ton of bad teams. Like, it is absolutely fair to look at that and say, huh, well, it should be better than the column on the right because we're not going to always play Denver or Seattle, you know, Houston. But we also can't rely on the easiest schedule in 20 years. So if it's somewhere in the middle, are we special? Oh, well, so you know, like, that's what we concern because they need him to be special.

1:57:34That's that is their formula. So then let's go to our second question because that is my answer to that is my direct answer to the sun. Oh, okay. Yeah, that's fine. I might jump to the gun on you a little bit there. No, but so then the question basically is too soon for the Patriots to panic. Absolutely not. Because I do, I think what you just laid out there is the exact reason to panic, which is if AJ Brown is hurt, which he is, we know it's hurt high ankle, spring, we don't know how long he's going to be out. But typically those are tough men like that. That can be six week, eight weeks sometimes. But let's say it's four to six, yeah, a little optimistic. I do think it is fair to say, okay, if AJ Brown's hurt, do we have any path? To being an excellent offense other than Drake may place an MVP level again. The answer is no. I agree. I like the idea of Travion Henderson.

1:58:34I don't love him starting the year off injured. I also think even a healthy Travion Henderson, it would be surprising if he's a top 10 back in the league this year. And so there's that. I thought the offensive line did a better job in pass protection yesterday, did a worse job in run blocking yesterday. With AJ Brown out, the wide receiving court is worse than last years. Booty was valuable to them. Diggs was incredibly reliable. Booty's gone. Diggs is on Washington. Dobbs, this is not money morning quarterbacking this or for second guessing, this first guessing. 17 million a year for Romeo Dobbs. Never made sense to me. He'll be better than he was yesterday. It's only because it would be impossible to be worse. But here's the other thing that's so concerning. Before AJ Brown got hurt, they ran multiple three receiver sets and Dobbs wasn't one of them. So something was going on in practice training camp, whatever, where they didn't feel like he was one of their three best receivers. So that's on the offensive side.

1:59:36And on the defensive side, that's the part where I care a lot about them playing back up quarterbacks last year. How good is the Pat's defense? I like Christian Baramore. I like Milton Williams. You love Christian Gonzalez. Yep. We have now run the list, the full list of names on that defense that I think are real different to makers. That's not a bad defense, but it's, but I don't know that it's going to be an excellent defense. And so is it very on the board that you have an above average offense and that's it, a below average defense or average defense, and a very good head coach. And that's who you are, and that's how you get to nine, maybe ten wins. Now you might say that's not panic worthy. For a team that's fresh off the Super Bowl, rookie quarterback, window, fresh off second MVP voting, that would be really disappointing. Yeah, I had them in the playoffs and you don't want to overreact to week one and you know, where our picks are in pen and the pencil is long out the window, but I don't feel good

2:00:39about it right now. And if AJ Brown would have come out of the game healthy, I would have given a lot more credit to Seattle. And I would have said, wow, they are just still clearly better than the Patriots. Weird things happen. Sloppy game, backup quarterback, tons of penalties on both sides of the ball. New England will get right because they will figure it out because you're not going to play a team like Seattle's defense for a while, right? Like Jacksonville's defense is good. They're not that. The Pittsburgh's defense is expensive, but not great. Bill's defense, not special. I would have been fine with it. But with the AJ Brown injury and the fact that they play all of those AFC playoff contenders coming up, if I was sitting here saying, are they going to make the playoffs? And I could redo it. My gut would tell me no. And that would be- Oh, wow, you'd find a room for the, you know, nobody believes in us, can't city cheap. Yeah, maybe I mean, I mean, I mean, honestly, the AJ Brown injury is huge because I agree. They are supposed to be based on where they have made their investments in terms of the

2:01:40offseason. Like, they are signaling to you that they think they should be a better offensive team than a defensive team. Well, I agree with that, by the way. Like I- Yeah, so so do I. I would have done the same thing. I think Drake May is a great talent. And I loved him before the draft. I did hours and hours and hours of radio. I'm like, if it's not going to be Caleb and Chicago, it's going to be Drake May. I never really considered Jaded Daniels to be honest with you. Like, I think Drake May is great, but this is a concerning thing. And the dobs piece of it, I thought that he was a good number two because he'd be good in the red zone, but him not getting on the fields early. And we can throw up the numbers just so people could kind of condense it there. That is horrendous. And I don't know if you felt this week because everyone talks about the helmet that he wears. I didn't process it until I saw him on the field last night. Did it feel weird or disrespectful to you in any way that he was wearing Gronk's number? I was like, I like- Well, the guy's got zero catches. You get arguably the greatest tight end in the history of the sport.

2:02:40You're going to retire his number. How do you give Romeo, Dobbs, Gronk's number? Are you sure they retire numbers? Like, I don't know that there. I don't think anyone should ever wear 87 again for the page, man. 12 and 87 feel like they should be off the board. And it was just like, at this moment, I was like, Cronk would have never done that. All right, so two things. One quickly on numbers. And part about my brain. I don't know what numbers anyone wears. I was 87 right now breaking that news to me. Like, I don't, I'm Jersey number blind. Like, I can't see it, so it didn't resonate with me. But can we put up that Dobbs graphic one more time? Because this is what is most alarming to me. They were in 36 offensive snaps before- Hey, Jay Brown got hurt. Before AJ Brown got hurt. Yep. He was on the field for 15 of them. That's so weird. He 40 of 71. Once AJ went out, he was on the field for 25 of 35. Correct.

2:03:40But before AJ went out, pop Douglas and Matt Collins were higher the food chain. He hadn't had that critical drop yet. He had made no mistakes, I mean, it was clear. It was simply that the Patriot Joss McDaniels and the Patriot's offends were like, yeah, he's right now maybe not one of our top three receivers, which makes that a potentially, again, it's the first game. But that is incredibly alarming, considering where they spent their resources. So that is- And I do think, just like you said, it's in pen, you can't have your prediction back. Teams can't have trades back. I guarantee you this morning the Patriot's like, man, we better get the greatest sixth round pick ever for that K-Shambuji trade. They could- Yeah. They gave you a chance. They gave you a chance. They gave you a chance. They gave you a chance. And right now AJ's hurt and Dobbs will see, I think they'd feel better if they had him. It's great to have the games back. It's great to have front of me's back. No doubt. And now you can vote. Oh, you know what? You know who the winner was, the audience.

Now coach, you're familiar with Australia, which is very important for this family. A lot of time there. But we are just about three hours now from Niners and Rams and we have confirmed that the Rams have landed there. So take us through the X factor. I had it tonight's game. Well, one of the most interesting things about this game is the revamped 49ers receiving core. And really the revamped Rams secondary. And how those two are going to play against each other.

2:05:41So if we take a look at last year's receiving core for San Fran, I say we'll go to the tape first. We're going to talk about De Shon's dribbling here. He was their second round draft bet. And I'm going to show you some of the plays from Precies. And this is him against off-man coverage. Okay. And what he likes so much about this is see how he goes up and gets the ball. He high points the ball. The defensive back has great position on him. And then he brings it down and is able to to hold on to it. So that's one play later in the game. This is him against press man to man coverage. So there's still ice lading him. And what he's going to do is he's going to run a fade route against the corner. So as he comes off the line of scrimmage, you can see he gets a lead position on him. But the ball's under the throne. What's the way he's able to contort his body, fully turn his body around. Look at the defense. Again, this is really good coverage by the defensive back. He's trying to push it through, dribbling his arms and get it out of there. Can't do that. He's able to hold on. Now we move to the red zone, staying in man to man coverage.

2:06:42The defensive back is going to disguise. He's going to show press and then kind of move to an off-coverage. The road's not that impressive. Impressor. It's just a speed out. But he catches it with his hands. This is the impressive part. So it looks like he's out of bounds here. But he actually stays in bounds. This ball was, this call was, was challenged. Now what's this part of it? He not only takes on the first defender, he takes on the second defender, and he's able to drive forward for another four yards. So press man, he goes up, takes the ball away, high points it, or off man. Press man, he's able to contort his body, come down with it. Now we're going to again contest and coverage. And then you see the body position. Here's what I was talking about. At the top of the segment, look at the changes here. These are the leading receivers for the 49ers going into the, finishing up last season. Only Robinson is there with his 22 catches. So they've got Mike Evans, they've got Debo Samuel, two older guys. And now they add Stribling, second round draft pick, great preseason.

2:07:45He's about six to 200 pounds, blazing at the combine, four, three, six. And he's got a real chance, and he's going to need to produce tonight against this revamped ramp secondary. I was going to say, you think he's ready for, like, you know, he's the 33rd pick on the draft on him, Pierce solves out with the injury. Like he's ready for a high target volume, because if he's going to be the number two guy opposite in Mike Evans, he's ready for that. Well, what's encouraging about it is, is when you look through the preseason, some guys pop, some guys don't pop, and some guys have production. So they put up some numbers, but the numbers are, they're, they're a little bit inflated because they're, the junk catches, or they're not that meaningful. The three that I showed you there were three really challenging catches in three different scenarios. And then I thought the body control and the way that he was able to carry the defenders afterwards. If you're, if you're in San Francisco and offensively, you feel good about giving him the opportunity to show that what we saw in the preseason is who he is.

2:08:47All right. Well, so you look like you're pretty confident then in Brock Perty's weapons, even if most of them are new in other good news for party George Kiddell and Nick Bosa are off the injury report. Coach, this is a weird game. They're playing in Australia. Do you think the Niners have enough to have the Rams on upset alert? I've said alert to me in week one is a strange term because you don't really know what you're getting. All upset alert on first things first to show. No, no, no, no, not even score here. Just ask what I'm saying is the first game is such a different game compared to any other part of the season because you don't totally know what you're going to get from, from your opponent in terms of scheme. They've worked on stuff all off season, and they're going to bring some things out that they didn't show in the preseason. How do their new guys fit into the equation? A guy like Stribling does he pop, does he not pop? And now you've got the factor of your in Australia, and you've got two radically different approaches to how they got there. One team, the 49ers have been there for a week. The Rams just rolled in yesterday.

2:09:47This is like every sleep experts dream in terms of evaluating the effect of sleep and recovery and travel on two professional teams. And it's a neutral stadium. Right, so the Australia component and the travel is fascinating, and we're going to extrapolate out meaning from it regardless of who wins or loses. I would also say we talk about how Seattle at times has felt like an overlooked champion. San Francisco is the overlooked best team. They're not the best team in the NFL, but they won 12 games last year with being the third most injured team in football. They're going to be injured again. They're going to be more injured than the third most injured team in football. And right now, they're pretty healthy. Like McCaffrey is there. Kettle is there. Bosa is there. Trent Williams is there. Look at this. They might get injured. Start players. You talk about it all the time. Older players. They're more likely to get injured than younger players. Of course. But they have an excellent coach. They won 12 games. They have division familiarity. They are relatively healthy.

Yeah, I give Kyle Shanahan the same type of credit that I give Jim Harbaugh in terms of taking it in your team and finding a way to win a bunch of games. We just haven't talked about them because the Rams are so overshadowed everybody in the offseason. But the star for star, they can go. They can go toe to toe with the Rams. And to your point, everybody is healthy at the start of the season. So would I be surprised? I wouldn't be surprised at all. If you told me right now the Niners were going to be one of the healthiest teams this year, they would be a team that they easily could win a Super Bowl.
