Hey there my friends welcome back to the morning mindset. Have you ever had someone scoff at your belief in Jesus Christ? I mean like they just look at you like you're the stupidest person in the world. Don't you know better? Friends, scoffers are nothing new. We're going to hear that today in 2nd Peter chapter 3 so listen or how we are to think about those who scoff against our faith. We'll be looking at that in just a moment so get out your Bibles and get out your morning mindset journals. If you don't have a morning mindset journal you can find one by going to morningmysetmedia.com slash journal. It's just a simple tool to help you outline and write out your thoughts and think more deeply about the content you hear on the morning mindset. You should be able to find a link to the morning mindset journal also in the description for this episode. Now before we dig into 2nd Peter chapter 3 I would invite you to pray with me. Our God we are grateful that you've given us your word and that you tell us about

practical things like how to think and how to deal with those who scoff about our faith. We ask you to give us wisdom through what we read today in Jesus name. Amen. Alright 2nd Peter 3 verses 1 through 3. Peter's kind of starting a new section in his letter to these people and he says this is now the 2nd letter that I'm writing to you beloved. In both of them I'm stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles. Knowing this first of all that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing following their own sinful desires. Now let's pause for a moment just walk through this it's very interesting. Peter says first of all he's writing to remind them of things. Okay we always need to remind us don't we? That's part of why we go back to the scriptures day by day to read them is because we need to remind us one person has

said we human beings leak you know the things that are in us that need to stay in as they leak out and so we need these reminders. He says what should you remember? Well remember the predictions of the holy prophets so the prophecies that pointed to Jesus as the Messiah and the commandments of the Lord that came through the apostles. So in other words remember the teaching of the apostles remember what the New Testament teaches about Jesus in the way of Christianity and he said remember that scoffers will come and they're going to scoff you know scoffers they scoff and they're doing so here's something we really need to pay attention to following their own sinful desires. Now Peter's revealing something very important for us to understand here when people scoff against your faith okay they may act like they have intellectual reasons for it or they have logical objections and things like that and some of that may be true there may be things

that don't make sense to them but really what's under the surface is there something about faith in Jesus that rubs them wrong that is confronting something they don't want to have to relinquish to his lordship you see there's something in their life sin or sinful desire that they recognize in light of who Jesus is and what he might claim of them as Lord that they may have to give up those things. And Peter wants us to know that that's what's going on in the background in their own hearts so that we don't get discouraged at their obstinance or at their determination or even at the arguments they bring up we can know there is a spiritual battle going on and we need to fight it with spiritual means like prayer and like dependence on the spiritual spirit we've got help us to have compassion on those who scoff

about our faith because they are blinded their victims of an enemy who is bent on them not seeing the truth so help us to help them through not being discouraged through not turning away and through not forgetting what is going on in their own hearts as they battle against sin even though they don't know it Lord Jesus be glorified in these conversations we have with those who scoff against our faith enable us to be a loving and compassionate and patient witness for you. One of my greatest desires for the morning mindset is that those of you who listen who are not sure if you are a believer in Jesus Christ or not will become sure friends you can know for sure. Go to morningmindsetbv.com slash meet Jesus that link is in the description for this episode.

I also want to make you aware that we've created a morning mindset journal.
