An early media report pointed to Guthrie's brother-in-law, Tomaso Cioni, as a possible suspect in the kidnapping, which left the today's show co-anchor. Furious, journalist Ashley Banfield shared the claim on air, citing a law enforcement source, and stood by it even after the Pima County Sheriff said no one was under scrutiny at that point. Former NBC colleague Megan Kelly revealed Guthrie's anger and that she might pursue legal action against Banfield. Kelly sympathized, noting Guthrie's close family ties and belief in their innocence. Cioni and his wife, Annie Guthrie's Savannah sister, had dinner with Nancy the night before she disappeared, making them the last to see her. Officials have now fully cleared the entire family of any role. The Sheriff's Department continues investigating Nancy Guthrie's disappearance with no new suspects named yet.
