This vision builds on years of planning to replace the aging, then weasel-performing Arts Hall. That venue opened back in 1970, but now feels cramped for bigger crowds and shows. Hurricane Milton hit hard last year, flooding the building and sparking talks of major repairs. Local residents stressed how crucial this center is for Sarasota's cultural scene. Commissioners praised the smarter location, affordable design, and strong team behind it. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, pushing the project closer to reality. The total price tag sits around $280 million. The Performing Arts Foundation expects to fund most of it themselves, raising between $172 million
