The West Midlands Combined Authority Board is discussing it now to speed up huge projects and pull in billions of pounds for the area. The goal is to create tens of thousands of jobs by combining planning, land, funding, and delivery in one place. Meanwhile, West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker and Birmingham City Council leader John Cotton are behind the push. It targets massive developments like the 3 billion pound Birmingham sports quarter, the 4 billion pound knowledge quarter, the HS2 station, at Curzon Street, the 2 billion pound Smithfield site, and a creative hub and digbeth. The East Birmingham area has faced tough times for decades, with 375,000 residents dealing with high deprivation, nearly 29% of adults lack qualifications. This could unlock over 10 billion pounds in private cash plus public boosts, turning the area into a real economic driver for the whole region.
