Here's more Birmingham news for March 9th. Sanford's Women's Basketball team punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament by winning the Southern Conference Championship in Asheville, North Carolina over the weekend. The Bulldogs beat the three teams tied for first place in the regular season, all in just three days. This marks their first trip to the Big Dance since 2012. Despite his six-in-a conference record and an overall 16-in-18 mark, Sanford has flipped the script lately. They're riding an 8 out of 10 win streak, including three straight in the postseason. That hot run has everyone talking about their perfect timing. Standout freshman Kaley Yarbrough lit up the title game with 25 points off the bench, including five three-pointers. She's averaging 12.2 points per game. Team Abreana Rivera leads the conference in three-point shooting at 36.5%, and the Bulldogs drain 8.43s. Per game, ranking 32nd nationally. This is just Sanford's third NCAA appearance ever, after first round exits in 2011 and

2012. ESPN projects them as a 16th seed, possibly in the playing games for a shot at their first tournament win. Selection, Sunday, is March 15th at 7pm on ESPN, when the Bulldogs will learn their opponent in first round sight. Fans are buzzing about this underdog story.
