but I don't really need it. Infliction is killing me! But who cares? Big retailers are making a record profits! That's why we support the Durban Marshall credit card bill! See, banks and credit unions help small businesses make payroll. This bill would cut the vital resources they need. While increasing Megastore profits, they deserve it. Don't they? Tell Congress, stop the Durban Marshall Money Grab for corporate megastores. Paid for it by the Electronic Payments Coalition. In response to requests representing millions of listening friends, the National Broadcasting Company is pleased indeed to bring you again the adventures of Sam Sade, Detective. Hello? Me, sweet. What number have I got? Sam Sade, Detective, I can see this. Oh, well, me, sweet, huh?
Nothing happens. Call me later, right? The right, yet. Look. I didn't know you were in town. You didn't write to me. Effie, effie. This is me in the flesh. I need to stay. Oh, no, what? Good ride. Effie, I'm in a pay phone. My nickel is running out. Oh, do I have to give you so cool and safe jokes with a tie right there? Wait, wait, listen. Are you listening? Yes. I am not dead. Don't believe everything you're reading a paper. Or here on the radio. You're at my funeral. Is that what you're about to say? Yes. Who does love me? Don't believe that, either. They write where you are, sweetheart, because I'll be there alive and handsome as ever. With an account of a paper which proves you can kill some of the people part of the time. My exaggerated report on the death of Sam Sade. NDC, welcome back to the air, a character who has captured the public imagination more completely than any other since the birth of Sherlock Holmes. William Fear, radio's outstanding producer, director of mystery and crime drama,
brings you the greatest five-detective of them all, in the adventures of Sam Sade. Aided, grandly broom and well, dead, candles at my feet, candles at my ears. I know we're not over business, you ready? I mean, Mr. Fear is over the toes right now because... because... I'll wait. I'll wait. What's the news? Stay. S-P-A-D-E. Stay. I never told you not to claim the other. He doesn't. What did you? I'm me, Sam. Oh, wait. Come in. Not even. Oh, what's the use? I don't ever mind, I never mind. I get your pencil and paper and take it. Baked November 7th, 1950. To Ms. Effie Parade. That's the same. Fun Sammy will say, that's me. License number 1375, nice. You might be the last one to see him alive.
Can you tell me to get me a minute? Shut up. Subject my death. Dear Effie, since the sight of me and the flesh, breathing, hungering, and living doesn't convince you, maybe this report will. Think of your can back the last Monday. I've you report, it was about 11 o'clock, when on the frenzy pretense that we needed stamps for the office, you drew two dollars with petty cash and stepped out to buy a pair of step-in. And that's when my client materialized. He was small and thin and carried with him the unmistakable order of sail flowers. His rack alpaca suit, string bow tie, elevator shoes, and white gloves, had no bearing on his conversation. Oh, dear. My name is Justice Wong. Are you sure? He is. My name is Spade. What can I do for you? I'll tell you, Mr. Spade. Six feet in my seat. Wait. 178. I always notice a man's bone structure. Don't you... Oh, always. Open. Huh? Open, let me see inside. Oh, oh, uh. All right, good. Mm-hmm. All right. Fine. Oh, well now that you know me,
this one, Mr. Swam, what can I do for you? Oh, dear. Perhaps I shouldn't have come here at all. I'm sorry, Mr. Spade. What? Who? Oh, dear. Oh, hello again, Mr. Swam. You wanted to talk to me? Yes, but I... I can't talk now, uh... Mr. Spade. There he is. Yeah. I'll give it 85-16. I'm not in Berkeley. I'll be there tonight. I know, okay. This sign of the event is like $50 on the edge of my disc. And so stupid me. I was at 85-16. Paramount of the pose of the day. There was a star white cottage with green shutters and a white ticket fence. There was a hill and back, kind of ripped in front. The sun was beginning to set on it, and it was all very picturesque. In fact, so much so, that a girl with red hair, blue jeans, purple smock, oils, and canvas was making it immortal. She liked me immediately. Here, hold this.
Certainly. Marshall? Oh, yeah. This is my first landscape. I'm a spouting artist. Obviously. Make sure... Not when I get somebody to do it for me. Who you? Oh, I might be a fellow one. Don't do that, girl, liar. You're sand-said. I saw your picture in a newspaper cooking when I was helping check checking out a guest before I moved in. But I... You don't know an evil from the palace. Oh, but I could learn. I take it too. Oh, then so do I. I got it. You've never tried to get away. To stand off. To throw off the shackles, had you? No, no. I'll have to admit that the urgency of living, the pressure of nearly existing is hard to... Stop, you're sand. By the way, I mean, it's good to catch you. The world is full of my happiness. You've never tried to get away from it, girl. The honest. Stop it. I want to do it. Honestly, Sam, get away from everything. Leave, desire. I've dreamed of it. Never return. Cross my heart. What are you doing here? You're seeing this this one. He's come, yes. This house is a wonderful subject. Look, Sam. Colorful, moderate, says. Mm-hmm. That is until the sun stops shining. But put through this night in the fog,
and crush the burn, fill the dust, brooding, run. I'm trying to capture that, too. So we've got to get away from this, Nick. Absolutely. You and I? Sam, as you start up the hill on Claremont, there's a green deposit house on the right. I'm in 420. Well, maybe we'll find a way out together. Maybe. I waited for a farm farewell and set on the steps of my client house until he showed up at 6.15. He took me inside, where the only furniture was an army cut, and a portable barbecue. I'm so glad you kept our appointment with your spade. I'm so frightened. I've been upset all week long. I didn't know what to do. I just didn't. And what have you been so upset about, Mr. Swan? Well, lately, Mr. Stade, intuitively, to the last week, I've noticed a man, and I think he's following me. Mm-hmm. At first, I see him in the car following my bus whenever downtown. Then he'd be waiting around at the bus stop to leave me when I came back. I'm so in my house, and I'm ready to move. It's unmarried.
There's so much, but... Did he follow your home tonight? No, no, without you. Well, would anyone be following you, Mr. Swan? Well, I don't know, Mr. Stade. I don't know. I really don't. All right, I'll try another take. What does Mr. Swan look like? He always wears dark clothes in the hat. I think he was about your height. Six days. I remember thinking of you, seeing boons such as old. Yeah, you're under the police. Oh, yeah. No, a man in my business catch afforded off color at publicty. No. What kind of business is that? The Bontan Mortuary. Oh. 25 years. Name locations. Oh, and I've worked hard. So very hard. And if you're something behind all, there's something that has stopped me from being made to executive secretary. The end of take is back for scrap when they hold their annual election next month. I don't know what I'll do, Mr. Stade. I just don't really know what I'll do. I just don't know. Oh, go ahead, Mr. Swan. You feel better. Just let it all out. Just really do. And he did.
When he stopped crying, I instructed him to go about his daily habits as always and left, assuring him I get to the bottom of it all. I was down to the corner, I was impatiently, and this is a neat trick where I'll calculate it to throw nefarious observers off the track and lull them into full security. And when the bus showed up 10 minutes later, I got on it, rode tree blocks, walked back, and took a plan across the street. A clever route, as you see, to invite a showdown. Two hours later, a man about my size and dark clothes appeared over the hill and cut stealthily to the front of my client's cottage. The end of his eyes grew to the window when I walked up behind him. Hey, Lego, Lego, come on, you're going inside. I'm not repeating time. No, no, you're the butter on tight. I'm inviting you in for a real sniff. Oh, my goodness! All right, then I'll go quietly. No. Okay, well, better now, just to walk on. They kicked you, landed on me. Wasn't they according to Queensburg? I couldn't move for three or four minutes and by that time he disappeared.
When I recovered my faculty, I reported the incident to my client, who tried himself to sleep. After I bolted him in for the night, I stopped on my way down the hill at apartment 420 and a little green apartment house. He was still wearing the blue jeans and the purple smile, and she still had the same eyes as him. Come in, Sam. You said you were serious about getting away from it all, and a whole day, I said. It was a pressure of living. I'm on here to apologize. And you are not the girl. I'm sorry. I love to be full, Sam, you're forgiven. How's the painting coming? They're the one who swam, Scottie. So, Bob is always tough. Rich, nice though. I've only been on it. Really tough though. Well, and you have a pretty good plan on a high fantasy. Every night it's a tall, broad-shouldered guy in a dark suit, casing the place. Crown, broad-shouldered. Pretty much like me. Could anybody be pretty much like you, Sam? No. No. No. Sam, is this something wrong? No. But I'm not going to do nothing.
Go on. Go on. Who? Hmm? And he fixed me a small dinner, which had a strong, turpentine taste to it, and then we mixed oils and painted, and made fun. What? Next afternoon, at the Hall of Records, I did a little state work on Chester Swan. As application and permit, the practice undertaking in the city of San Francisco were dated 1938. The tales, unmarried, 52 years of age, graduated from more tuition school in Ohio, listed one leading relative, nephew, theater, J. Swan, Toledo, Ohio. I was gathering the above information when I smelled whiskey over my shoulder, which is always good luck. And without telling them, it was also in the private investigation racket in its city, and it was leaning, cheering for my face, the car that I held in my hand. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Yeah. He should have overdue, too, so.
He got over the mail. Him? That's him. He was at tears. What's his name? Uh, in my eyes, it's a good one. Chester Swan. More to share. Yeah, that's him. Sam, the same one exactly. He came to my office to reach some plane and about somebody to follow them. And he did nothing about it, but I was too hot. Or were you are? Are you sure? Sure, I'm sure. And some other boy said he was around old, too. One of the private eye, but he wanted the man to look just right. All right. Obviously, as right as you are, Sam, because it looks like he picked you. Ha, ha, ha, ha. Yeah. Yes, that did look like he picked me. And I thought that over, and I didn't like it. And I called my client at home to tell me he was fine, but he didn't give me a chance. Forty, I'm so glad you called, Mr. Spade. I really am. I call for a reason, Mr. Swan. I'm resigning this case. Oh, dear, Mr. Spade, you can't do that. You really can't? I don't think you've been quite honest with me, Mrs. Swan. Oh, dear. Please, we'll get you nowhere.
I met a routine check on your reasons for hiring me, and they don't quite fit for the reasons you gave. They really just don't quite miss this one. It's no game, Mr. Spade, believe me. He's back tonight. Right now, he's standing beneath the lamppost outside my window, and I'm frightened of him. So please hurry up, Mr. Spade, and let's get this business started. Now, please, please. Let's go places. I went over, and I found that little wife try to gun a hill looking green and dawn in the heavy fog. Amy's words about a being crushed with bareness, full of brooding and death came back to me. And Mr. Swan's frightened words about a mysterious man in dark clothes, waiting beneath the streetlight also came back to me. Particularly when I noticed there was no streetlight near the house. However, there was a light somewhere in the rear of the house and the front door was ajar. Mr. Swan, Mr. Swan, are you here? Mr. Swan, it's me, Sam Stady, are you here? Mr. Stady, is that you? Are you out there? Are you out there?
The needle went somewhere in my left arm, but not before somebody turned my coat off, and for no reason I could think of it at the moment, I also tried to pull my finger off, so I couldn't dwell on it. By that time, the stuff in my arm was going other places, and I was going with it, even though there was action all around it. They thought it'd do us? No, no, stay away from it, get out of here! Very day, somewhere, somebody was shooting long candles and having blowouts or playing doodocks. I just didn't care at all. I just didn't. The first thing I saw was sunlight. It was the kind you see in a picture. It was a picture of a little white cottage with green shadows. I was in the 80s apartment where we made cuts together. I got to my feet somehow. I was in the kitchen again. I thought it could be all the best thing to do again. I know the best thing to do with.
I know there was a pilot shooting a window. I got out there and I weeded against the wall. Mr. Swan, you saw him! What do you mean he saw him? He couldn't have done the way without load. Oh, no, I don't know. He was unconscious when I gave him a hand. Well, that was just where I thought I'd do something, and I'd be talking. I didn't wait to find out what they were going to do. I made my way down the fire escape and started working for the shooting. And that's when I noticed my shoes didn't fit me anymore. They weren't mine. Neither was the great plan of suit for the later month tidchees. Neither was the blue shirt. And when I was out at the ring of my finger in grade Emerson High in 1936, there was a mine either. My new belt buckle had a big letter T on it, which is not my initial, it really isn't. And I didn't have any use for the eye glasses in my cold pocket either. You were out when I walked in the officer, but you've been there. There was a black crate done up in a white satin ribbon hanging on the door. The best blotter was wrenched with salt tears.
And I didn't say before the back of page 13, and I'll see the chronicle on this, but the last thing I do, gave me a two inch spread item, November 15, 1960. 50? What happened to the 13th and the 14th? Detectives, parishes, and virtually fired. I read it through once. It was great. It was my old butchery. You are listening to the first in a new series of adventures involving radio's most famous detective, Sam Fave. Thank you, Sam Fave. Later tonight on North MDC Station, Debbie Salvin comes away with another very half hour session, starring Ed Gardner's Archie the Manager. There's a full serving of laughs, Darnage with Checkles, and ripped up by Archie and his unpredictable friends,
Miss Debbie, Kristen Finnegan, and Abby the waiter. It's just one of the many great Friday evening entertainment features on MDC. It's Debbie Salvin. You're here for a better listening, where the three times always means good times. Make it a Friday evening habit, to tune early and stay late at your favorite MDC station. And now back to faithful over my dead body, tonight's adventure with Sam Fave. I left the crate on the door when I had to buy a new desk platter and some more new safety. The herbal news had the best story which wasn't much. Sam Fave, licensed private investigator, perished when denied in a fire in a vacant house in Berkeley. His warm friends will feel regret at the passing of a man who was always kind to the poor. None of us ever asked Sam Fave for a hand out
without receiving a kind word and burn-mouth as he turned us down. This is nice, but I wanted more. Figured I was fully safe to wonder about unrecognized. My roof-sitting attire required for my unknown benefactor would be the size enough than combined with my two-day buries. Emission company 16 Berkeley division had earned over fire. Half a block away with a garage shop called The Share Mod. I waited for a fireman in the community. Back in there. Back in there. What kind of a place you're running now? I've been here five minutes earlier. Oh, I shut up, Paddy. It just arrived. Well, it seemed like five minutes. A week or more, if you don't, that's enough for you, Paddy. You're still under it. I am nuts. I'm off now that you said I could be off. We received such a shock to meet the system. You received your shot three days ago. And then some sick command. Oh, the sight of him was terrible, terrible. Francis Black is the good sage of the years.
Our twisted and heartable index. I was probably dead drunk and didn't know what happened to him. And were you there fighting the flames and finding them like me? Oh, it was terrible, terrible, terrible. Terrible. It wasn't that bad. You got your limit. And who says so? I say so. I would do you. And who are you? Your brother-in-law. But now. Whatever I can scratch your one time. I never drink with strangers. What's your name? Er, Old Dylan. And you had the man go ahead for. Haha. Here. Yeah. Ah! By the time when you had a terrible experience three days ago. That I didn't still do it. That's what I didn't need at all. I've heard it a dozen times. I'll be at the other end of the day. We three nights ago, Mr. Old Dylan. And we get a call from the house. I'm clear month is the fire. Don't see when we get there. I've gone. I can't understand why he's from flames of us. What? It was a beautiful fire of a man who lived in shame. Huh?
And he ticked your fellow. Sam's paid. He was identified as. We. Oh, one moment, Sam. And I've heard fine things about him. Ah! Some of those uppity police. Others from the division of homicides. As he was a nice fellow. But some of the boys in the whole station. And this house. Well, we got our own idea. About them. What kind of idea is that he knew about him? What kind of good can any man be accomplished in the moment? The house. Did he know he was a nice guy? He was a little Dylan. Oh, he was done to attorney once. When I was birthed. In the door. He asked. Should he sit in the third room? Sure. And he was given all about him. No, Dylan. Sin. He's going to sleep with a spark and cigarette to set the whole place up. Waste. Ribbon. Ribbon. From there I went downtown to the holographic orchestra. I sent a wire to polito on a lawn show. And I was waiting for an answer on a not so lawn chance. I sunk into the bond con funeral porridge that paid my respects.
To the deprive. I was stood in the back of that dimly lit chocolate, and scammed the scene. Three of the boys from homicides were there. Bowen hey. bow and I know these two chorus girls I thought had long since forgotten they were there in black deep being next my insurance man was there looking all for worry one chronicle reported with the driver she shined both of my bullying and the bailiff in the courthouse just a mention a few I didn't make out and you were there I think up front near a closed jacket and we got a bottle of flowers from Robert Deter a dead guy's band master from the city more as it's the only one I look at is all right is anyone wish to a human I was touched and I would have sat the whole thing down there but I had to find out who was in that
jacket I really love the front door with tears in my eyes and stood around at the back door and then to check this one private office and there I made a phone call and got an answer to my cell phone which caused me to make another call to his bank my that time most of this was right in place I searched through a desk with little netting and a safe standing in the corner the same but then my answer walked right in the door I was so nervous and I found you'd left back so I looked at him and I got to be there and the guy was really worried about the doctor's girlfriend and he's been asked for two days and I was so nervous he got away from him and he was good girl yeah yeah they're bearing me right now I'm dead it's so wonderful so only one thing really you said okay I was supposed to bring up a nut fire and what was worth to support to look a nut like see it or a J swan crisis 1936 to lead a little higher to let beneficiary just your swan collect a nice pile of insurance money so let me tell you about who you stood or do you know what you said just your only living reality they're doing them right now somebody would ask this
case or you want to tell me I got an answer to the house and I was a fire working on my third new picture you didn't even remember how you didn't come out and I was on the floor and a man was bending over me he changed clothes and you sounded and I screamed and he got out of that and I heard him with a hoe and I grabbed you on her own and then what happened I put you in my car and took you home I was going to find the police but I decided it was something who was working on him I went back to the house and it was burning and you knew the man you'd hit on a head wasn't there he leaves me so I didn't know the house was going to burn down I wasn't till anybody saw him I don't know what it was you were only one of the help me it was right in there I don't know it wasn't you didn't start the fire and somebody was going to start it? Chester he thought it was me lying on the floor in there the downstairs was me he's about to go busted he figured this one out with his necker to scare up some insurance though I'm about the same size as him hold me it's been horrible this is the kind of thing I've been trying to prank and smack that up a dance of downstairs
I'm stupid easy easy damn you really do do you guys have an outside and touch the leaves? no let it go the way it is the last time you're good oh yeah huh but we know different guns we miss the scene it was holding a navy coat revolver in front of him with both hands I couldn't make up my mind I left him and he found out his bad aim it sounds good to be a perfect target while I tried to set them out either way he was a crazy man with a gun he was getting ready to use it so who's gonna try? why are you saying because my nephew was stupid enough to wear your watch in your suit when he exchanged clothes with you I'm going to lose the momentum and that puts you in quite a spot doesn't it? until the moment you go yes but now if you say the newspapers all day you're dead the death certificate says the same things all of your friends are following your casket and my nephew's cops to the syndicate is very moment
everybody expect you to be dead Mr. State thanks to you but now nobody admits you if I kill you I'd miss you, sir but I'd have to kill you too oh you can notice this thing right if you don't close even if you're doing it while Mr. State I could kill him for killing the stars and then and collect my insurance on you don't know couldn't I? you know why that's a terrible thing to think uh oh you're not a reasoning pathologist you really aren't how would you explain the meaning you just said you'd have to kill it and look about the karmies officer you're not alive could you stop and don't forget the medical awareness that's happening it's so cruel not the nature of the fact that you'd have to really burn the effort to go up the border I'm further more chester when you shook me but if you happen to hit a ribbon chip off some bone they'd know I was shopping for and then I'm excited to be in on it oh stop stop stop nothing works for me I'm a blue go ahead Mr. Swan let it all out we'll see you back
oh and he did and he still tried and then he fell downtown period end of the course oh so then you were so great you actually stood there and taught that crazy man out of out of learning he was running true effort anything so too she's gonna do me an oil when they let her out of the polka isn't he Daniel? so that's it all the technical tribes of an involuntary manslaughter and it's springers soon as the karmies and crests is completed they're only which makes the best sense huh? oh that was the least of it oh I don't know after the fact pop up I know she oh boy oh boy so they thought that up sweet I will see if there's any mention of my miraculous resuscitation on the radio page go go I'm so there certainly is a mention of fan stayed on the radio page for five days fan stayed is one more in the list of great shows to join up in NBC's parade of the size
