About this episode
Will Best joins us for a special bonus episode as he and Sam go head-to-head in a Staying Relevant version of Mastermind…
Will previously won Celebrity Mastermind with Danny Dyer as his specialist subject, so we thought it was only right to put his knowledge to the test once again. And with Pete safely out of the studio, Producer Pippa has chosen the perfect specialist subject for Sam… Pete himself. We find out just how well Sam actually knows his best mate.
But can Sam prove he’s the ultimate Pete Wicks expert, or will Will hold onto his Mastermind crown?

Welcome to Stagg relevant the bone of Seb's own host by me, Sam Thompson and William. Travorean. Travorean best. Thank you. Guys, thanks very much. What a treat to be here, Sam. What a treat to have you here, sir. Now, you've obviously rolled this. We rolled this over from the main episode. You can catch the main episode from that episode now on Spotify. Maybe get your podcasts. And can you watch us? Yes. Can you watch us as this is out? What do you mean visually? If they're an Apple podcast, they can watch it right as they're listening. Oh! And if not, it'll be on YouTube on Sunday. Where we are. On YouTube on Sunday, you go. Yeah, you can watch it on Apple, can't you? Yeah. We were part of the beta programme. Why? Yeah. I know any of that. Look, you're a beta. You're not the best. I've been told that before. Sorry. It's all real so lovely. This answer is by my own story. Mate, look, we had to have you here for the bones as well, because we... I was saying this about the main episode, not just obviously on bias, because it's our podcast, but I think that's one of the best episodes that we've had. You say that every time.
No, I genuinely don't. You do. If you haven't listened to the main episode, please go listen to it. Fucking, we were all laughing and crying. But this is the bonus, and this won't get serious. Okay, good. Thank God. Finally. You won. Celebrity Mastermind. I did. In 2025. Yeah. Now, actually, I've got it written down here, but I actually watched it, so I know quite about how this went down. Anyway, first of all, when you're on it, I've never seen you so serious. Oh, hey. Yeah, well, because the... I forgot his name. Who's the guy that I was sitting? He's brilliant. Whoever that guy is. Clive. Clive. Clive. Yeah, Clive, myri. He's so good. He's so serious. He's so serious. You don't get a lot back. I tried to have some bandages. Did you have a bit more? New, thank you. He is all about bizness. He's got his game phase on. So did you see when I accepted the trophy, though? It was the most awkward thing in the world. I feel like he does that with everyone, though. Yeah. And I didn't know then they were like, they're off camera saying, hold it up. And like, and the camera stays with me for ages, like the whole credits.
You're there, like, the biz's holding the thing. And you're like, and then you get a dry mouth and sly. And you don't want to stop smiling. So you keep smiling while smiling. It's, yeah, it's fucking terrible. And you're like, I know. People just started to hate me. Yeah. I went from probably people like, yeah, I'm really happy with one. So fuck, mate, Jesus. Exactly. Yeah, exactly. Put it down. I don't want any show like that. I would know. Actually, then tipping point. Did you win tipping point? One point. But not because I was really good at it. It's because someone next to me kept on getting the answers correct. And he thought he was playing a good game by making me do, you know how I like you. Oh, yes. And so he kept on giving it to me. And I was like, all right, I just don't. Who was that? I can't remember his name. He was very clever. He was a, was it a celeb one? He was a celeb one, yeah. I would have loved if you went on it before this career. Yeah. It was actually a really one. One tipping point against Charlene. He was a wonderful time. Actually, I want a 500 quid. I want a big, very much. I want a Ben Shepherd doll.
Which I still have at home. It's not about me. It's about you. Your, especially subject, which I just, it came out nowhere. I just had no idea. And I know you've probably been asked this so many times. Like, Danny's on. Danny Dyer, senior. We'd be weird if it was junior. Big man. Yeah. It was junior. Yeah. Not a junior, it's my specialist subject. Yeah. But where did that come from? Well, I'd say Danny Dyer is well on his way to national treasure status. I think he's already there. He's probably already there. Yeah. Danny Dyer National Treasure. One. Two. I knew, I knew that you basically, they want you to have, you get a, some source material. Yeah. Right? So, like, if you choose a person, it will be their autobiography. Right? And I knew that Danny Dyer had an autobiography. I knew that the text was quite large. The page count quite low. Yeah. Every third word was fuck all. So true. No, that sounds really, actually, that sounds like I'm dissing Danny Dyer.
No, you obviously have to be a big fan anyway. Yeah, that's the thing. Yeah. It was, I just knew, I just thought I reckon if it's a subject that you love, okay, and you're genuinely interested in, then you're going to learn it more easily. And it helps that, you know, his autobiography is written exactly as he speaks. Yeah, he, you know? So, yes. So, I read his autobiography, obviously, and I made copious notes. And then what I did, I mean, basically, this is why it's not impressive, I want, I just geeked out. I made loads of notes, and I refined and refined the notes. So I got 10 out of 10. Because he was asking you some rogue fucking questions. I'm like, he's never going to get that. Yeah. I can't remember all of them now, but like some of them were like, no, some of them were well, it was things about like, you know, like what was it like, because he was in a, he was in one of his first acting roles. I was like, oh, no, no, the, so he got nominated for, he was in a short film that was nominated for an Oscar, like years and years and years and years ago in the short film category, called The Wasp. Or is it, yeah, God, I nearly sounded like him and I said that.
The Wasp. The Wasp. That was an Oscar. And yeah, exactly, that was, you know, that was quite a random one. And then, you know, it was, it was all the, it was all the Danny Dyer big hits, you know, this is filmography and, you know, where it was born. You got every single question correct and there was some, did he get in touch after that? I, oh my God. Can I read, yes, I'm going to read the message that you sent me. I'm sure he won't mind. I messaged him saying, so I sent him the, I sent him the post, right, where I put the video and the pictures up and I said, don't if you've seen this, mate, but I hope you don't think it's too fucking weird, right? When he wrote back, very flattered wheel, my old son, so glad you won the ****. God bless you, mate. That is so good. I love that. It's in classic Danny Dyer style. Very flattered wheel, my son, so glad you won the ****. God bless, mate. So he's done soccer a quite a few times and every time he signs. You went on his show as well, didn't you? Did you go on his, didn't you do something else with him? No.
You've not been to his caravan, huh? No, I haven't. I really knew him other than the two times he done soccer a together and so he did most of recent time and I feel like he was like, I don't know if I'll do it again. So he was like, really happy to be back because obviously he's getting older and he's like, I don't know if I can run about like that. And I went outside and I had a cigarette with Danny Dyer on the first day. I would take up smoking. Mate, it was 100%. I actually, I made him stand there for about half an hour. We spoke about everything and he, Danny Dyer is the most genuine person. Oh, mate. I've never met in your entire life. There is not a flicker of fakery in that man. No. Authentic. The most authentic person you've ever met. And not a bad bone in his body. No, I've never been in his body. He's so lovely to absolutely everyone. Darling, come over here. He's got the girls. He's bought me a tea. Come here, darling. Thank you. Oh, yeah, right. Mooshau, are you like? Yeah. But he, you may think to yourself, oh, is this guy like, you know, is this sort of like the act that Danny does? I know, obviously, someone's got me real. It is him to us.
Oh, yeah. 100%. And if we could ever get him on this podcast, he would be like, surely, absolutely. I don't think he really does them to be fair. But like, he would be just my dream. Well, I think they're doing another series of the him and Danny. Oh, the caravan park. Of the caravan park. He'll need to promote it. He came on, I showed to pro. Well, he needs to, he needs me to tell him that TV's dying. So, you know, like, TV's Danny dying. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He'll be able to be bothered. But he, yeah, what? What a fuck. What a guy. Mate, I, I, I just desperately want to go on a massive night out with him. Oh, so don't make it. I want to drink what I have. What you drunk, like 10 pines with him. Well, well, we drink a little bit in the, so I wouldn't say massive night out, but we drink a little bit at the Socoray train. Yeah. Because it's a champion. So there's a little bar. Like, it's not open, like, massively late. But like, you can sink a couple of jars. And so like, so I probably had about four, five, five, eight, eight. And it may let put it this way.
Everything you would want from four or five beers of Danny died. Yeah. It's exactly what you get. Oh, my. And it's, it's every, it fills a cup. It is absolutely brilliant. I just want to do it so bad. Mate, do you know what? You just tragic. Mate, I, if there's anyone who deserves to go and have a beer with Danny Dyer as the man who literally won most of my, one of his subjects. Not on that note, though. We, we, you know, as I said, this is getting serious, mate. And we actually, we're going to do our very own quiz right here. OK, great. Right now in the studio, and we're going to go ahead to heads. All right. You can keep your specialist subjects of Danny Dyer. Mine is going to be Pete Wicks. OK, I'm just, I, I will have forgotten it all. Mate, I've got made my mind. I know you. You're far less about Pete than you might have think. My memory is shocking. OK. Oh, my God. OK, this is, so we got, we got, we got easy mode, medium mode, and hard mode. OK. If you could be the biggest bitch, you could possibly be. Sure. So it's not going to be hard. Yes, I'm going to say. I know. You're normally telling me. Here we go. I know. Pipper, take it all.
You're going first. OK, and can you give us the categories of the easy medium hard? Yeah, as easy mode you went with. I was just going to say a round one. Yeah. Three questions around. You're going to go first on Pete Wicks. All right, fine. Easy round. First your month. What is Pete's middle name? James. Correct. What is Pete's favorite football team? Totten. Correct. What was Pete's job before reality TV? I was neat like to tell us he was the something at a medical recruitment company. Wow. I was a director of a medical recruitment company. What am I doing? Was it his company? No, don't give it to him. We're not sure. Can I just please say it's quite impressive. No, no, no, no, no, no. Will, let me rein this back in. That's the reaction Pete normally wants. Let me rein this back in. Maybe the company got into trouble. Maybe he had to bail it out. He could have been. That's why I went into town. That's why I went into Tauy. There's only one thing for it. I thought I was going to break my legs. Well, do you know what? I'm always so terrified to ask about why it didn't work out. So I've just sort of like, I've just been like, yeah, well medical recruitment.
In my head, in my head, I'm like, well, this man's obviously a secret millionaire. Sold is going to be like, I sold his medical recruitment company. How old is Pete? 37 nearly 30. He's so young. Yeah, he's still got a lot of years left. He's so young. Smokes a lot though. He seems older. Yeah, he gets that a lot. But in annoying a bad way. Where would you put him? I just can't believe that he's younger than me. If we were at school together, he would have been in the bottom year when I was in the top year. That's wild. Oh my god, you would have been in sixth one and he'd be like, yeah, like you're seven. Yeah, I would have given him an atomic wedgie. Yeah. I know where we're at. In fact, next time I see him, I'm going to give him an atomic head. You just remind yourself. Yeah, get that up. Okay, fine. Actually, Josh, I might need you to keep school. Because I happen. So that's two out of three. Two out of three. Right. Okay, should we go to real now? I'm not going to remember anything genuine. I'm just going to maybe feel like I'm old. I've got. I don't want to hear you.
I don't want to hear you say something like this. Okay, go on. Okay, from one question, mom. What character did Danny Diplay and he sent it to? Oh, fucking. No, I genuinely can't remember. What? I genuinely can't remember. What? I can't remember the name of the character. I've got her. I've got her. I've got her. Mick Carter. Nick Carter. Mick. Really unsure. Nick. Nick. Nick. This is bad. Okay. That's really bad. I don't know what's bad. I'm just going to delete it immediately. Danny Diplay. Um. That beer is going less and less likely as the acquiesco. You're right, Nick. What is Danny Diplay's daughter's name? Okay, Danny Diplay. And go for that. I got that wrong. He'd be giving me an atomic wedgie. Yeah. I'd love that. I'd like to know that. Yeah, great. Take four. Oh, yeah. What is Danny Diplay's middle name? That's a tough one. I genuinely can't remember. Yeah, that's tough. Danny. Danny Derrick Diplay. Robert? No. One more go.
It's not too left-field. Is it like Robert? Yeah. Right with you or something? I don't like he wants to. He's got to be good. What would you run this? Is it? Okay, if you shorten it, you can all rhyme it with Ted. Headward. Yeah, it's correct. I wouldn't have got that. That's two points. Two points. I don't deserve any of those. No, you got it, mate. If you get the rhyme, you get the rhyme. Okay, Sam round two. Medium round. Medium, medium, medium, medium, medium. Yeah. Oh, this one goes a bit tight. Yeah. I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it. Oh, this one goes a bit dicy for me. What is Pete's go-to drink order, like from a coffee shop? Oh, it's, um, fucking, I sound like Danny's either. It's, um, a pistachio latte. Correct. Yes. Is it? Yeah, he's that so sweet. Yeah, he used to, he before he got that in his, in his chops. It was a, this is before we met any of you guys.
Maybe Pippa knew the, a caramel cortado. Oh, yeah. And a bit of a, I felt cool ordering. Yeah, he very much liked cortado for me. But if anyone just come in, we used to work, work, work, at one of the jobs together and like, someone would come like the runner would come in, be like, do you like a drink, Pete? Be like, come on, cortado, please love. Wow. Oh my god. No, it's pistachio latte, extra pistachio. Extra pistachio, yeah. We'll carry on then. What is Pete's biggest fit? Oh, I think it's it gorillas. It is. Pete's biggest fit is gorillas. Really? Yeah. It's silverback. I know exactly. It's weird. Yeah. He always says that you never know what they're thinking and that they and that they could take the world. Sorry. When, when, when does one need to know what a gorilla is thinking? When's he been a, I don't trust that. It doesn't, that's so weird. When are you able to read them all? Yeah. Exactly. Okay, last one in medium round. You think they can take over the world. Okay, okay, last one of this round.
What is one thing Pete will always have in his dressing room or on set? Red Bull. Yes. Whoa. Oh, wow. You're doing really well. I know, so well. Was that three out of three? Yeah. I did write this for getting you to do your quiz like a year ago. Yeah. So the medium round, do you go? No, it came out last Christmas. We filmed it last March. How does it, if come on? I'm worried from the easy round. Yeah, go on. Okay, medium. Which TV show did Danny Dyer present about football? Oh, the real football factory. Get away, you moron. Get away, you moron. Get away, you moron. Get away, you moron. What year did Danny Dyer join his standards? It was quite recent, wasn't it? More recent than I thought, but I'm not sure about quite recently. Was it like 2017? 18. A bit earlier. Oh, 2016. 15. Yeah. I get a point for this. 2014. I was going to say 2013. Yeah. That's right. That is right. I did it that. Okay.
So, what was Danny Dyer's character called in the business? Well, I think you've asked this on Mastermind. Yeah. I think this is one of the questions, if I remember it correctly. Tommy Bigpollens. No, was it... Was it... Nick Garza. No, Frankie. Are you sure? What was that one? Two. We'll give you 20, 30. Two. Okay, Sam, you're on your final hard round about people. Easy. Really? What is Pete's favourite holiday destination? What's that to pay? Yeah. Yeah. Obviously, the fucking spends more time there. There's bloody podcasts. Is that where he is now? Yeah. No. No. He's meant to be in Turkey this time around. But yeah, he's been talking about four visits, Sandtrop, with new misses.
What's he having done? In Turkey. No, I think I was actually just a... Just a follow-up appointment. Just make yourself a pack. Yeah. It's all healing well. What phrase does Pete say all the time? That's not face, isn't it? No, okay. This is one that the team... If you asked anyone on the team, his top phrase, I'm confident of you. Does that make sense? Yeah. That makes sense. Pete tries to explain things, right? And like, after everything, does that make sense to you? But like, you literally just said like, we're going to start in an hour. Does that make sense to you? Correct. Okay, last question. What is Pete most likely to complain about? Okay, give me a slight context. It's pretty broad. Pretty broad. What's he most likely to complain about? How busy he is? Broaden. Okay, broaden that. Oh, what's Pete most likely going to complain about? Are they still annoying me because I'm not going to get it? Pete's going to most likely complain about...
I don't know. Most things. Most things. Is that... That's such a trick question. That's the shitest answer I've ever seen in my life. Well, you could storm into the lead here. I don't think I can. I think it might be on my wrist. Josh is on scores, don't worry. Okay, fine. Okay. Fine around. Who directed the football factory? Nick Love. Oh! That was a trick as well. Danny Dyer's exact birth of date. Birth? Oh, God. In 1977. Yeah. Custom House. Where is born? Ex-appoints. July. It was. The. Oh. I feel like he's done. Was it any of the numbers I said before when I was trying to guess when he started on... He's tenders. And key that rules out about half the numbers in a month. It was the seventh. No. No, because July is the seventh month. Yeah. Yeah, so sorry. That doesn't count.
That doesn't count as a guess. Well, you've got to go. 10th? No. Double it and a bit higher. Fuck it out. 21st? 22nd. 23rd. Oh. Sixth. Fourth. 20th. 20th home. 20th home. Yeah. Great. That's a point. Okay. Two, two. Next one. Final and last question. What was Danny Dyer's first major television role? Prime suspect with Helen Mirren. All right. We'll win. Yes. Yes. Oh, who's this texting me? Oh, it's Danny. So glad I won. Thank you, Danny. If you're in mind, just holding that coffee cup now for 10 minutes, you're doing it actually. Yeah. It's going to be great while smiling. We are actually going to do the outro now. We'll have to go. He has a very busy day. So actually, I do want to say this quickly. It's a real pleasure that you came in. For anyone who's listening to this, not watching this, will is now staring down the barrel of the camera, doing the smile. Will has been nothing but a little bit more.
I'm doing the smile. Will has been nothing but an absolute treasure to have on this podcast. Oh, thanks. Thank you so much, Tame Time. You're very fucking busy schedule. It's an absolute joy and a pleasure. Thanks for having me. And I'd love to, hey, listen, I'd love to check back in if I managed to make it. Like, will through some of, strictly. May I ask you a question? If you, when you end up doing really, really well, and you find a bit of time, could we be your podcast of joy? I would love to be. If I make it to halfway. Yeah. Could I come back up? Will come to Blackpool. Will will come to Blackpool for you. We did it last time. We did it for people. That would be so fun. Well, that means the world to us. Thanks so much, mate. And by the way, I do mean it's an all seriousness. Like, you are your friend of the pod, mate. We are going to be an absolute group. Thank you, man. Are we telling our listeners? We're going to be telling our listeners about the vote for Will. Every single week, vote for Will. Thank you. Well, best of all. Thank you so much, guys.
