Sam Howell Joins Cowboys, Sparks QB Competition

Howell, a fifth-round pick out of North Carolina, back in 2022, started his career with the Washington commanders, where he earned his. First win as a rookie against Dallas in week 18, and took every snap the next season. That year, he led the league in passitums and ranked 12th in yards, but Washington's four-and-thirteen finish led to big changes, including trays that sent him to Seattle as a backup to Geno Smith. He saw just two games there before moving to Minnesota in the 2025 offseason and then getting Dell to Philadelphia right before the season, without playing a snap for the Eagles. Now in Dallas, Howell joins Dak Prescott and Joe Milton III on the depth chart, likely pushing veteran Will Greer aside and sparking real. Competition for the backup spot as training camp nears.
