Salford's Electric Scooter Trial Extended

0:00On March 14th, Salford's Electric Scooter Trial is sticking around for two more years. The Council has extended the program run by Lime Scooters until May 20, 208, up from the original end date of May 20, 206. It kicked off back in October 2020 as a partnership with the Department for Transport. Riders need to be over 18 with a provisional driving license. They pay one pound to unlock a scooter through the Lime app, then 17 pence per minute while riding. The Council highlights them as a handy option for short trips where buses or trains aren't practical. Local officials note the scheme has seen steady growth in users and coverage area. Recent additions include parts of Eccles and Pendleton, alongside spots like the City Center, Black Friars, Trinity, University of Salford, Media City, and up to Salford Royal Hospital. On the environmental side, the Scooters have cut over 600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions so far, matching the impact of skipping 100, 90,000 car trips.
