Salesforce Jumps on Outlook, HP Falls on PC Demand Concerns, Wendy's Sinks
About this episode
Today's biggest winners and losers in the stock market.
On this episode of Stock Movers:
- Salesforce (CRM) jumped by the most in six years after the software company gave an outlook for strong revenue expansion and deepened its partnership with Anthropic PBC, reassuring investors that it can compete successfully in the AI era. The company also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic, the maker of the AI model Claude. It will integrate Salesforce’s products within Claude, allowing sellers to access information on their customers and sales cycles with the AI app.
- HP (HP) shares are trading lower a day after earnings as investors look past a widely expected boost in the company's profit forecast and worry about the future demand for computers and printers. While PC unit revenue increased 18% in the fiscal third quarter, unit shipments dropped 16%, as sales were boosted by price increases even as demand for machines is hurt by the sticker shock.
- Wendy's (WEN) shares plunged today after Reuters reported that Nelson Peltz’s Trian Fund Management currently has no plans to make a bid to take the fast-food chain private. Earlier in August, Wendy’s shares had jumped on a report that Trian was preparing an offer with other investors. The stock had previously risen 8.5% this year through Wednesday’s close.
