s05e07 | Talking Therapies & Gender Identities, with Marcus and Susan Evans
About this episode
Susan and Marcus Evans are seasoned psychotherapists who worked at the Tavistock Clinic in the UK. During their time there, the Gender Identity Development Services (GIDS) experienced a massive influx of referrals, and they both witnessed a startling switch in the psychotherapy profession from patient inquiry to "affirmative" chemical treatments, specifically when "gender" was involved, and out of keeping with the broader standards of care for other psychological treatments. In time, both of them were compelled to blow the whistle on this sea change, and have since written an in-depth, factually based book on Gender Dysphoria that aims to bring to light the complexity and humanity of this novel corner of human mental health.
