For the NFL, it's March 4th. Here's what's happening. Make sure you're subscribed so you never miss an update. The few between Russell Wilson and Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton is heating up again. Wilson recently fired back, saying he's beaten Payton before as a champion and won't tolerate disrespect. At the same time, the Broncos have wiped the final dead money from Wilson's contract, off their books, giving them a clean slate financially. Their one-year partnership fell apart fast. Payton benched Wilson late in the 2023 season and cut him the next off season, even though the team had traded big draft picks to get. Him from Seattle, and signed him to a huge deal. Tensions boiled over after Denver beat Wilson's new team, the New York Giants last October. Payton made comments about the Giants finding a spark with their rookie quarterback, and Wilson hid back on social media, calling it classless, and bringing up old grudges. Now free from that $85 million in dead cap, they have did after the cut.
The Broncos can chase talent aggressively this off season. No more limits holding them back. Team CEO Greg Penner says they handled the mess without excuses, stayed scrappy, and built a solid roster anyway. With cap space and draft picks ready, they're excited for what's next.
