Rondo's Coaching Journey: Pelicans in the Mix

0:00On May 1st, Rajan Rondo, the former Kentucky Wildcat in 4-time NBA All-Star with a 16-year pro career, is making a strong play for his first. Head coaching job. He's interviewed with the New Orleans Pelicans and remains in the mix, according to reports from the athletic. Earlier this year, Rondo wrapped up his degree from the University of Kentucky in May 2025, all while serving on the support staff for the Milwaukee Bucks over the past two seasons. He started hanging around the Kentucky program as a listening ear for players under Coach Calipari, but never landed in official role there. Rondo's got real coaching chops from leading his son's AAU team and sitting on the bench for Kentucky's TBT squad, La Familia. His old Boston Celtics coach, Doc Rivers, who won a title with him in 2008, says Rondo's ready now and he'd hire him in a heartbeat. Rondo himself told the athletic in March that leading a team is in his blood, he loves breaking down the game, adjusting on the fly and getting players to execute.
