The Notorious Mass Effect segment features a detailed deep-dive into “Necio” (feat. Carlos Santana) by Romeo Santos, from his 2014 album Fórmula, Vol. 2. As Analytic Dreamz, I explore this standout bachata track that fuses traditional Dominican rhythms with Santana’s legendary rock guitar phrasing, creating a rare cross-genre Latin fusion.Romeo Santos, the “King of Bachata” (born Anthony Santos, 1981, Bronx, NY), modernized the genre as Aventura’s former lead vocalist and solo artist since 2011, blending R&B, pop, and urban Latin elements with romantic, sensual storytelling. Carlos Santana (born 1947, Mexico), the iconic guitarist famed for his Woodstock breakthrough and Supernatural era, adds expressive melodic sustain and expansive electric leads to the song’s intimate vocal delivery.“Necio” (“Foolish”) captures obsessive forbidden love, emotional stubbornness, and romantic vulnerability through bachata’s requinto guitar rhythms layered with Santana’s rock-style solos, building melodic tension. Released February 25, 2014, via Sony Latin, it peaked at #31 on Billboard Hot Latin Songs, #18 on Latin Airplay, and #6 on Latin Pop Airplay—mid-tier charts but strong in Latin formats.Certifications include 3× Platinum (Latin) in the U.S. (180,000 units) and Diamond + Platinum in Mexico (360,000 units). Long-term streaming shines with approximately 499 million Spotify streams (ranking #10 in Romeo Santos’ catalog), plus hundreds of millions in combined YouTube views from official audio, fan lyric videos, slowed + reverb edits, and TikTok usage—demonstrating exceptional decade-plus longevity. As part of Fórmula, Vol. 2 (43× Platinum Latin, critically acclaimed at 85/100), “Necio” exemplifies streaming-era success: modest initial peaks overshadowed by massive cumulative streams, playlist rediscovery, and cross-generational appeal from Santana’s feature drawing rock and legacy Latin fans.Analytic Dreamz breaks down its cultural impact, long-tail economics, genre timing in the bachata surge, and why this resilient track remains a cornerstone of Romeo Santos’ catalog without heavy sync or media boosts.

Now of course we dove into Romeo Santos once before all the way back on February 3rd, 2023 when we covered his track with Carol G, XC, Volvamos, hopefully I said that right, probably not. Then we come to November 8th, 2023 where we covered him again with the one and only Jackquees Webster aka Travis Scott for their particular track titled King of Pachata. So for this particular year in 2026, three years later, we are now diving to Romeo Santos once again because guess what, he currently has the 22nd most played music video in the world with his specific music video for the track, Nisio. Now if you're not familiar with Romeo Santos, safe to say he is known as the King of Pachata,
which is why you know Travis Scott noticed that and put him on as a feature for that specific track as he rose to fame as a lead vocalist of Aventora that formed in 1996. Now of course this blending Pachata with R&B slash hip hop that's what Romeo is known for and can't forget Carlos Santana, that's the other side of this specific track Nisio that currently has the 22nd most played music video in the world. As with Carlos Santana, he rose to fame in the late 1960s with his band Santana and San Francisco fusing rock, Latin jazz, blues and Afro Cuban rhythms. Now of course these particular artists came together to make a mammoth notorious mass effect as Nisio not only is doing phenomenal on the YouTube but also in streams in general and these two gentlemen are not, they are not a stranger to success in the musical industry
as Romeo Santos sold over 24 million records, multiple number one billboard Latin hits first Latin Grammy win with best meringue gay slash Pachata album for formula back in 2023 and of course he's had a plethora of sold out stadium shows when it comes to Carlos Santana. His biggest accomplishments was 10 Grammy awards including nine for Supernatural back in 1999 and album slash record of what with an album slash record of the year. He also has three Latin Grammy's so these two particular artists coming together is no surprise that everybody is flocking towards it and is calling it a masterful track. It's for the album formula volume two that came out February 25th 2014 so you probably think it to yourself. How did a track from 2014 rise on the charts again as far as in the year of 2026? Well that is a phenomenal question and that is why I led with the music video being the 22nd most
played video in the world because of course that helps out not only with engagement but also people coming back to the original DSP track and listening to it after watching the music video. It may be even putting it on their playlist as back in 2014 when that particular track came out it peaked at number 31 on the billboard hot Latin songs and went to number 18 on Latin airplay to number six on Latin pop airplay and then of course when you look at the certification for Latin because Latin certification formula is different than the general US platinum thresholds so as far as the Latin platinum it's three times with a hundred and eighty thousand units sold. So now you're looking at Romeo Santos you're looking at Carlos Santana coming together making such a notorious mass effect with this particular track as far as the long term streams is through the roof as it's over 500 million plus Spotify streams and of course it ranks amongst Romeo Santos
top Spotify songs and consistently permeates throughout the Latin masses especially when it comes to the type of slow reverb and lyric video and the TikTok audio usage all of that comes together to make one magnificent marketing strategy for this particular track so when it comes to Neseo safe to say once again TikTok rears is ugly head we're not ugly it's just a phrase but basically TikTok is one of the most organic tools you could use as a musician to give your track in a definite amount of time to blow up because if somebody shares at the right time and it blows up on TikTok you might as well put that track out that specific day because TikTok will do wonders for musicians especially when it comes to discoverability so anyways getting back into the overall output of Romeo Santos and Carlos Santana the main thing I wanted to say is even though the track may not be
on Billboard Hot 100 or it may not be permeating and the top 50 for Mexico is still one of the more respected staples musically in the Latin community so that will continue to to be true especially when you start to see music videos such as Neseo and then of course Romeo Santos has another music video that's going that's going up as far as the lyric only video for Neseo and the marketing strategy combined with the TikTok combined with other venues as far as getting it out to the masses has increased global Latin consumption so I think it's doing phenomenal and of course icons like Romeo Santos like a Carlos Santana is basically showcasing that with the right marketing tools your music can live on forever so that means they click my link here in my bio let me know one of my social media so what do you think about Romeo Santos and Carlos Santana as musicians
and if you've heard the song Neseo is it one of your favorite Latin tracks of all time
