Rome Neighborhood Blast: 3 Hospitalized, Homes Evacuated

0:00On March 22nd, an explosion rocked a quiet neighborhood in Rome's Pianodel-Soleia area, sending three people to the hospital and forcing dozens from their homes. The blasts happened at the intersection of Via Tabanyasco and Via Sigli, triggered by gas cylinders buried in a backyard. Emergency crews rushed in quickly to handle the chaos. The two most seriously hurt were an 84-year-old man and his 86-year-old wife, the property owners, whom suffered burns over 20 percent of their bodies. At 24-year-old man was also checked out after rescuers pulled people from the rubble. Five buildings are now uninhabitable. 29 residents were evacuated and debris scattered up to 660 feet away. Several parked cars took heavy damage too. Firefighters and police are still on site, investigating what went wrong with the liquefied petroleum gas cylinders. Rosemary noted the blast's impressive force and said teens will assess how many more people need relocation as the probe continues.
