The celebrations are still going on. People still get their days with the cup, but it's back to business for the Carol and her canes as we're just a couple weeks away from the start of the season. And we sat down with Rod Bernamore, head coach of the Carol and her canes for about 30 minutes. We'll bring you that conversation later on in the podcast. But we will start in the NFL where Demetri and I talked about this a little bit on OG business where we're in these hype cycles now for everything. You got hyped up for the iPhone duo. It's a foldable iPhone. We get hyped up for a remake of an Nintendo 64 game. We got hyped up for this early enough. I'll see you in the friendly back. It's a super bowl rematch. Although I want these super bowl rematches that start the season. I need them to fix the rules. If you're going to run it back for a super bowl rematch to open the season, I want wrestling style. The super bowl and barbie trophy is on the line. Ooh, like the belt, tables, ladders, chairs. Okay. Like I get it. You want it WrestleMania, but it's raw. Vince McMahon just comes out. I want Roger D'Agell, Gidell to do the whole Vince McMahon walk thing. Everybody's celebrating. They're hoisting in the barbie trophy. The banner is there and then all of a sudden Roger Gidell glass break.

3:04What is happening? And Roger Gidell goes tonight. Tonight, tonight only. We're going to fly to Australia and you're going to play for the super bowl again. That's what I want. Okay. I don't hate where your brain is because the hype cycle gets you there and then what you end up remembering is this is just a week one matchup and it ends up being a rock fight between the sea ox and the patriots. And it also is like the worst case scenario for everybody. You're defending your your raining super bowl champion. See their quarterback out with injury. I've never been more proud of you than in my entire life. I'm learning, dude. I'm trying to do some things in my entire life, trying to do some things for you here. So Sam Darnel goes out with a hip injury, AJ Brown, like in the first series. AJ Brown for the shirt for those of us who had Seattle and their survive report. Like, geez. Never mind. Had a bunch of money on the game. Very, very, very, very scary. I was like, what? And then it's happening. Drake May with all the conversation after last year runner up MVP, your schedule, your

4:09schedule, your schedules, much more difficult now. My dude throws that one, not two, but three. Interceptions including, well, really the last two were just brutal. I get Romeo Dobbs dropped the pass before the second pick. But then I mean, I don't know if you heard the 98 five sports of radio call, like they were just like, Drake, you cannot make that. And you're right. You can't make that throw. And Drake may, he's a pro man. Like it's one of those things where I can't make those mistakes. I can't make those throws and things like that. So the hype cycle gets you. And then you realize, oh man, are we, are we feeling this after a week after that the last night? Because if I'm a Patriots fan, I'm like, oh, geez, was that regression from Drake May? Oh no. And then of course with Seattle, what are you going to do without Sam Donald, right? Yeah. And also makes you wonder like with New England specifically, how long can this sun run continue?

5:09In what sense? I mean, last year they had the easiest schedule like in the recorded history of the NFL. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, then they get to the playoffs and everyone's key players or players get hurt right before they play them, except Seattle. Now the season begins and Sam Donald and I know if you're, if you're coming out of a time capsule from 2020 right now and you're going, so what? Sam Donald got hurt. Who the fuck care? No, man. Sorry. No, I have got news for you. Sam Donald is now a super bowl winning quarterback. And one who's like the entire day of this Seattle's offense rides on his right arm. Drew Luck. I was sitting there going really. I'm going to start my NFL season with a loss. I'm eliminated from this survival. And because it drew fucking luck instead, you were saved by. Safe by Drake May. Maybe that. Yeah, man. Success to see that. It's like because again, we're all we're all big Drake May fans, man. We actually are the guys electric, but there's there is just like, I'll do. Why? What are we doing? I'm going to stand by this take and this was a take I had from Drake May's second year

6:12is Carolina starter. So pretty early in it actually. Yeah. I said he is Carolina's Philip Rivers. Yes. It's never going to win anything, but he's going to be in the NFL for 20 years. Uh-huh. He's going to be beloved. He's going to have a great career. He'll be fine. He'll be just fine in the NFL. Mm-hmm. And everyone's going to love him. But ultimately look back and go. No, wait a second. Wait. Did he actually do other than be Drake May and be really good? Sometimes that's okay. And you can't. You can't be in a place in the world for all people like that. Again, we live in a world where we put so much emphasis on the Super Bowl, right? And it's like, do we think of Sam Darnold as this hall of fame all time career? No. He's better than Damirino. He's a good story, but clearly Sam Darnold is better than Damirino. Uh-huh. Hello. He won a Super Bowl last year. He's better than Josh Allen. It is. It is a ridiculous thing that we do with this rings and trophies culture, but it's kind of where we're at in the hot tank business. I go nine, but both of us two, two, one, one. So, for context, Drake May did this last year, too. Okay. He's, he's done this as a, um, as a NFL quarterback when you do the whole NBC thing and you get to say, you know, where you're from. Who was it? Willie Parker. Who did that? Oh, the dark horses. And when he was, when he was with the Steelers, right? One of the all-time greats.

8:17Yeah. So, like in a petty way, I just like Clinton, Clinton High School. Yeah. Home of the dark horses. Just bad as fuck, dude. I love that. I love that. Yeah, Russell Wilson. He did the whole. I'm going to split the difference in the whole pack of badges. I did not bring that up. I know. I'm, I'm bringing it up. I'm bringing it up because it did drive people nuts. Okay. But I do think, maybe still, I do think that people read way too much into the, where you from, especially in this day and age where I don't know where you're from. Yeah. What do you, you know, that no Drake is different. Don't get me wrong. He's a legacy kid. He's a legacy kid. There is. Yes. There is. Okay. I understand why Drake may gets viewed a little bit different. I'm making an overall larger point about the NFL lineup announcements and what school you're from in this day and age, but Drake is different. And after Mac Brown got fired. Okay. He's been saying Myers Park. This is not new. And I don't think there's, it's not, I say it's not that deep. I mean, it's pretty obvious why he's doing that fairly obvious.

9:19And honestly, given the things that are going on at Carolina, I don't even know if you want to associate yourself with what's going on with maybe when he's gone, then he'll be back to being UNC. Yep. That'd be interesting to see. All right. Sticky with Drake May. Let's go back to the phones and wait. Hey guys, I have a take that I know some people probably aren't going to love, but I think I maybe need to be convinced that Drake May is the superstar that was promised a few weeks ago on the podcast, y'all were talking about some people who have like, kind of benefitted in their careers from being like schedule merchants. And the more I think about it, I'm just like, I don't know if I can really think of a time when I feel like I have seen Drake May really shine against like really high quality opponent. It felt like both of his years at Carolina, was it just two, they started out really strong

10:22got, you know, like they got towards the end of the season, expectations were high. And then when they started to play some teams that were tougher, they fell apart. And then this first season or second season rather in the NFL makes all the way to Superbowl, yes, phenomenal. But that was the whole thing was that like it was the easiest schedule in NFL history or something like that. And as soon as they get to the Seahawks, they get their shit rock. And good last night he did not look good at all against the Seahawks. And like, like Julia, you always tell that story about the first time you saw him and you was going to be special. And but like even then it was like he's playing against Florida and him. And it's like that's, I mean, I feel like, you know, who, like a lot of people can light up against the one double A team and I'm not saying he's a bad player. I think he's going to be in the league a long time. He can maybe even be a hall of fame or but it just feels like I constantly get let down

11:24and it's like I'm not, I'm not saying anybody's wrong. I'm asking to be convinced because I've been, I haven't been so far. So tell me, tell me on it, please. Thanks. Okay. Before you chime in, Joe, I do want to add some clarity to Drake May, the North Carolina Tarah heel quarterback. Okay. I think these are two different things, two different things. Drake May and Carolina and beating up on the easy teams and losing these other games. I mean, hey, that's college football. B, that's the history of triangle good. Okay. I mean, we have seen future hall of famous come through the triangle and you look at their, the full sum of their career. You go back to their time here locally and you go, what did you win? You always like to bring up filibers correctly, but there are others that have come through and you go, wait a minute, Russell Wilson being one of them, by the way, Mike Lennon again,

12:24NFL quarterback. Okay. Was good at NC State had decent seasons, but again, what did you have to show for it? Jacobi Berset. You want to talk about a guy who survives, right? I mean, that guy's a survivor. I got to still get jobs for heaven's sake. Daniel Joe. I mean, like, I can keep going and going. I think you get the point. Drake May isn't a long line of triangle cubies that go on to the NFL. You look back at their college time and you wonder what? And I think it's bigger than the quarterback. I think it's just a, it's a, it's a feature, not a bug of triangle football, like we've talked about a lot. And there's also a little bit of Mac Brown to it as well, right? Mac Brown was the master of hyping you up in the off season. When I was talking season, there was no better bet of the Mac Brown. And then Carolana just kind of regressed to what we know, triangle football teams to be. A lot of hype when the money's on the table. Sometimes you have to escape against that state. Okay. So I just wanted to get that college part out of it because I do think that's unfair to Drake May, specifically in college.

13:25And you're shaking your head. And the reason why I say it's unfair is because I can present to you others from the triangle that were in a very similar situation. I mean, we're having a big put this one in my Obit kind of a week, aren't we? Okay. Because let me ask you a question, sir. Phil, I mean, I cannot be more right about this about the Philip Rivers thing. Yeah. And it goes right back down to the college day. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. 2002. So Philip Rivers famously never finished better than five and three in the ACC. Okay. They, this is not at a time when Florida State was kicking ass and taking days. They were Maryland, for example, won the ACC in Philip's second year. Okay. You know, we talk about Maryland. Philip Rivers requires not one L for before. So let me just get the number right here. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, right? Yeah. Nine. Okay. In 2002, the year and the only year in C States, everyone more than nine games.

14:29They went 11 and three. They started that year nine and oh. I know. I know. They started that year nine and oh. The not only was he the Prince who was promised. He's the guy who started from the jump. Joe Pate saved them. Yeah. Chuck Amato opened your eyes, Mary, Annie Fox, NC States going to be the football school, the triangle. We've got Philip Rivers. He starts nine and oh. Then they lose the Georgia Tech game, the reckoning from last year that we went over last year. One of the Maryland losses, a terrible fucking Virginia loss. Then we get the Adrian McPherson throws the game. They beat Florida State. They end the year by beating Notre Dame and the Gator bowl. Everybody's happy. 11 and three. That's a matter of four. Shout to Mayor Meex. Yep. Never been done before. 11 and three. Next year they begin the season. Fringe top 10 and unravels quickly. They go eight and five. Didn't they go. You went to Wake Forest before Ohio State.

15:31Correct. Okay. Now, my memory gets a little wonky. So his best year, they start Philip Rivers, best year at NC State, they start nine and oh, finish 11, three. That was 2002. What do we love to say on this program? History does not repeat it rhymes. Let's go to now. 2022. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. The North Carolina Tar Heels in Drake May is first year as a starter and second year in college. Start the season not nine and oh, we were this close to the symmetry. They start the season nine and one. Yeah. Reach the top 10. Yeah. And then only to summarily lose their next four games. Right. They fell apart. So then they start the next season like you said, oh man, hype, let's go. We're going to do this. We got Drake May back. Next year, they actually started six and oh, and to this caller's point, then they go two and five crash out.

16:32Of course, he didn't play in the bowl game, which was a loss to West Virginia. So yes, show me the picture corporate wants to sell show us the difference between. And remember Drake even worked out with Philip. I know. If you pulled the 100 NC state fans, I bet you 75 of them would say Philip Rivers is the best player in school history. And over the next 10 years, there's going to be people who don't remember Lawrence Taylor. And you can ask them who's the best player in Carolina. History. A lot of people are are going to answer Drake May. He's going to have that kind of career. He almost won the Super Bowl last year. But almost don't count as we know and try and go good. Yes, put it on my tombstone. Rivers equals May. Oh, I thought you equal ballers. That's it. And ball needs needs ballers. We need baller equal you. Never forget. It's just week one. It's just week one. And yeah, I see you Kelly.

17:33I see you Kelly with the NC State. Can't lie. I had a small spark on my face after the three fix because again, the rivalries, the rivalries are what they are. It's just just week one. Let's calm down. Justice Mitch. Unless the Super Bowl trophy itself was on the line last night at week one. Man, it ain't nothing. It ain't nothing. Week one continues with a completely unnecessary game in Australia. I don't know why we're doing this, but whatever. Again, whatever. And then we got week one continues for our Carol on a panthers. 20:46I mentioned the Carol on a panthers David Tepper owner of the Carol on a panthers made a rare media appearance. I know it's a new scrawm action too. Yeah, like that's so to be to clarify here, there was like a. It was like a business networking opportunity where NFL commissioner Roger cadel sat down with David Tepper right and that's when we got the whole Super Bowl business, you know, what can be done to Bank of America Stadium to make all that happen right that's not what this was this was actually an opportunity for folks to actually ask David Tepper some questions. It lasted about 12 minutes again, he doesn't do this very often. He admitted, Hey man, I got my people in place now. I've taken a step back and that's where we're going to go from here. Scott Fowler column this long time column is for the Charlotte observer, chapel's dad, got you guys dad guy, the controversy guy.

21:49I got you. So so so Fowler has this video that I'm using off a Twitter and he said the Tepper was asked if he had a message for the fans. Here's what he had to say. Listen normally I have my keep on it at every single day. I love where it is all from. I do. So I just tell him to keep on. You know, we're making progress. We're going to continue to make progress. You know, you know, I believe in the winning season this year is nothing as easy as this NFL seriously. It's not. I believe we have everything here to win this year and I believe we'll have everything to win in the future too. And I do think we're on the right track and I do think we have very good people here and then and Dave and Grant. So I think we have a good, you know, good head team, good management team over that Saturday building. I trust them. I don't feel the need to be around as much here because I trust him so much. And I'm like I said, I'm optimistic. I'm realistic. Okay. So, but I'm optimistic.

He was also asked about the constant conversation around Bryce Young and his future. Bryce Young actually had to answer some questions about that yesterday. Tepper, this is from Tepper's press availability yesterday. He said that he thought Young gave the team a chance to win multiple super balls and that he still feels that way with the right weapons in the right situation. Very similar to a conversation we had with Mike KVSPN yesterday of to your point. Do you want to move on from this when you've seen other guys have success with its Baker Mayfield or Sam Donald, but the right pieces around him. Meanwhile, this is from pro football talk.com aggregated Bryce saying for me, it's just about football, all that stuff happens. It's outside my control, all that stuff. Other people upstairs and agents, all that it's season time. We're going into week one.

23:51That's all that matters. These are all the right things to say. There's really nothing much to add. However, one thing you and I did clock in the 12 minutes of David Tepper, Carol on a Panthers owner. He was asked about Major League Baseball. Jeff Passon got all his talking over at ESPN when he did his big board of Major League Baseball expansion, targets, candidates, etc. In his piece about Raleigh, which featured a nice pull quote from our guy Lou over at MLB and Raleigh. There was no mention of Charlotte, no mention of Charlotte in this. Here is David Tepper when he is asked about Major League Baseball expansion. I'm going to stop it right there. I'm going to stop it right there. Let me let me let me let me let me let me let you wait again. We're live on YouTube, so the face really, really matters. But here is David Tepper asked about baseball.

24:51It's a 30 second clip, but the two seconds is priceless. I've done it. I can't, there are so many ways to translate that. So many ways to translate that. Here he continues. And we're all in. I mean, they've Charlotte. Or being part of a partnership. You know, it's, it's this very political with baseball, right? And this is, you know, in the state. So, you know, I think he made pumpkin North Carolina. It'll be a harder job with that legislature to bring it here versus long, like frankly, catch that show. Legislature. Oh, did he get it right? He's got it right. He continues. I mean, that's the truth. So, yeah, I mean, you know, I'm watching it. I'm watching it. Talk to Dundin. Not, not the big dick energy that we got when soccer wasn't involved. No, no, no. He's like, man, Stephen Malik, buddy, love you, but you ain't got my money.

25:52And we're actually, we are, I am working on getting Stephen Malik in studio here soon, because there are some things going on soccer wise for the courage that we should probably talk about, which relates to a lot of these things, politics, stadiums. Yeah. Who gets earmarked for what and all those types of things. And there's a lot of hands out right now looking for stadium projects. It's almost like Dundin hired somebody who had a connection to the legislature and lobbying. No, yeah. What about that? Almost like maybe that was calculated. I would love to know. And maybe this is something I can ask, I can, I can text Scott Fowler. Or maybe we should probably get Scott Fowler on to talk about his gotcha child, chapel Fowler, according to Davo. They get you. Or, but you know what I should do. I should probably reach out to Pat McCrory. Do I want Charlotte versus Raleigh? It's not, it's not Charlotte versus Raleigh, but there's, if there's anybody who has lived in both worlds, local, and obviously as the governor of North Carolina.

26:55He would know. And I would love to know who it was that sat tepour down and said, all right, man, let me let you in on North Carolina local politics. You ever notice when there's a highway project where it gets done and who gets the funds? Meanwhile, I 77s fill with potholes. Hmm. Why could that be, David? So there's a little element of that at play that's happening right now with tepour and not done, but maybe he's being outmaneuvered by London. Who is to say that smirk was that smirk tells me he feels like he's getting out maneuvered by London something going on there with that smirk. Man, that smirk gave a lot of way, Joe. It gave a lot of way, dude. It really, really did. Anyway, I thought that was interesting. It kind of piggybacks on conversations we've been having about major league baseball and expansion and things like that. I have received some pushback on my thought that David that Tom Dundin would be more likely to do a distressed asset thing, rather than paying an expansion fee.

27:58One thing that I was texting with Lou at MLB rally about this yesterday that he makes a very, very good point in terms of me being caught up in that end that NBA expansion fee. Or what could be the future NHL expansion fee one thing I failed to bring up. Well, all the baseball stuff is going on because it's focused on here and it matters to us. Gary Batman's also going through his I want to expand some more before I retire like Rob man, right? That's right. Somewhere in Texas, right? So there's two spots right now that they're looking at one of them is to bring it back to Atlanta, which I still don't understand. I don't understand. And then yes, putting another team in Texas. Austin might be by the would they build an arena by the battery? Uh, what I'm going to do. Yeah, it makes sense. Atlanta, yes. And then for the NHL Austin seems to be a hot, a hot spot right now for and that would make a lot of sense to put it in Austin. So I would be curious to see and to lose point you got these arenas that need tenants and therefore the price of the brick goes up. Baseball is a little bit different because of the specialized nature of the stadium that you're building.

29:01So all those things make sense. I see where lose coming from, but I still kind of, you know, based on everything that we've been able to pick up on that we know about Dundin. I don't know. And again, there's a difference between spending money and wasting money. Right. There's a difference. I hope people understand what I'm saying this. Dundin will spend the money. He hates wasting money if he doesn't have to do it. That was the only thing I was trying to get across that I think some people misunderstood yesterday. Husky B. The reason why I bring this up is because there's a tendency to be like, man, I'm tired. I'm tired. I'm tired. I got to sleep. If I just get eight hours of sleep, it doesn't work. Right. Or all you know what? I'm going to just take a walk out, clear my head. It's not working. The fog doesn't go away. You tell yourself all you have to do is just one particular thing. Sometimes it's not that simple. It's not about getting the eight hours of sleep. Yes, you should go exercise and things like that. But sometimes it's your body's getting older and things don't react the same way. And this is where you come in. Yeah. And you can try to white knuckle and get through it. But a lot of it's physiology. And like the University of Michigan did a study and they added a second. And Michigan. Sorry. I'm making a western Michigan joke. They did a study and they magically found a second. They could add to the clock.

37:11Yeah, exactly. But in 1950, a 70 year old had the same testosterone as out of 20 year old has today. And it's a lot of what we eat. The microplastics, the environment, our sanitary lifestyle. And just unfortunately, you're just saying that. Oh, yeah, my 18 year old, a lot of time. He's like, yeah, don't worry, Dad. All the microplastics will take care of me. I was like, dude, but they know they know, like they're aware of these things. They're definitely more educated than most. I'm 43. And the last five, 10 years, I've learned so much about healthcare. And just because I come from a business background. And if we go to the state fair, they have a gamer that gets your age. We could win any fucking prize. Oh, no way. Yeah, no way. No way. Yeah, come back. Come back. Come back in October. I've heard what the rules are, but it's within two years. There's no way. No chance. That's game day. Yeah. 40:15The my understanding is that there's one GLP just to take this GLP. It's compound. Everybody has a version of it, um, and things like that. But when Austin came in, uh, in the carry location, Austin was explaining to me, like, there's there's updated forms of this, like there's a concern with GLP ones that you do end up losing some muscle mass and things like that. And I've seen it with people and I get it. They take GLP ones for a variety of different reasons, but I can literally see a body composition change beyond just the weight loss. But now they've come out with newer versions that don't necessarily have that effect. Is that my understanding? They they have newer versions and the first, um, version, if you want to say is, was a GLP one, and then they've gone to GLP twos and even now GLP threes, um, and they all concentrate on different parts of the body. So a recommendation for somebody might be different versus somebody else. And also you have to look at their price and just spend the inability. Sure. But yeah, there's GLP twos and threes that will help less muscle mass reduction.

41:22You still might lose a little bit of muscle mass, but also we can basically recommend another peptide or even test. Yeah. Yeah. Or test, uh, on therapy replacement to help build that muscle while you're losing the way the way, because that is one of the biggest side effects of GLPs is you will lose weight. And even with the GLP or muscle and even with the GLP threes, there will be some tendency to lose weight. It's just not as much maybe as a GLP got you. All right. First and foremost, North Carolina self reported a violation from last year, the punishment for said violation is not having an official visit this weekend while ETSU is in town.

43:34Okay. Got it. This is from inside Carolina, Bucks and this from Don, can I, Don Callahan? I should say Don over inside Carolina, uh, reported earlier on Wednesday that North Carolina will not be hosting any recruits for unofficial visits on Saturday as a penalty for a pass. Recruiting violation. This is apparently the violation according to IC. According to multiple sources, one of the issues involved was that UNC self reported to the NCAA last season that violated by law 1310171. Okay, sure. In bowl subdivision football during an unofficial visit, an institution may not arrange for photographs or photo or photograph a perspective student athlete. Or those accompanying the perspective student athlete, the rule was adopted in January 2024, one to affect two months later. This rule is specific to unofficial visits as official visitors routinely do photo shoots while campus nation on campus nation wide. This is how you get like the Brian Kelly LSU thing where he's doing the the I dances and all that kind of stuff and you see those almost like,

44:38Olen Mills photo shot of photo shoots with the parent in their uniform and then the kid in their uniform and things like that. In the grand scheme of things, this is not that big of a deal. It's one of those ticky tack self reported recruiting violations during an unofficial visit. I think there is some gamesmanship taking place here with North Carolina and not bringing recruits to the ETSU game because it's a new game with all the mess going on and a softer crowd. In fact, I was reading both at Tar Heal 24 seven and an inside Carolina that they're shifting all their focus to their next home game after the ETSU game, which is the Notre Dame game, which will actually have some butts and seats and things like that. So if I had this is my own speculation, they're probably looking at these things and going, right, you know what screw we're just not going to bring any recruits this weekend call it a day. They don't have to see a crowd noon against an opponent. Nobody wants to see.

45:40And then we move on with our lives. If you wanted to take a step further, if you wanted to tap into the bill Simmons conspiracy corner. Okay. This again, in and of itself taken as a one off is as the folks like to say, uh, nothing burger totally agree. But the thing is it's not just a one off. It is yet another example of things being behind the scenes that are not button down that something silly like this would even be in the news in the first place. Also shows you if you really wanted to be hardcore North Carolina fans upset that they even self reported it. We live in a world where Lane Kiffin is going to war with his own conference over two players. He doesn't even need it taps into things that we've been bringing up as of late related to the first go round with football drama and but Davis. North Carolina remember back then back then they did things that no self respecting school that cares about football would do.

46:44They basically went about their business. Hey, because we're self reporting because we're being cooperative because we're doing all these things. You will go light on us. Look at all of our past track record. Of course famous last words. Meanwhile, SEC schools that were dealing with similar issues said, F you we ain't giving you any information. You have no subpoena power and they moved on with their lives. Again, it's a small thing. I understand it's a small thing, but I do think that there are some care a lot of fans that see stuff like this and go. You can't yourself reporting this. You ain't about that life. You're not built for this. You're not built to take football seriously. I'm only presenting that because this is the kind of reaction that I've seen from this is one little thing, but I do subscribe to the angry Carol on a football fans. The ones who do care about football, getting yet another example where the school just does things that are like, man, SEC like you want to be in the SEC. That's not how they operate in the SEC. So why are you doing it like this?

47:46Yeah, the one thing that strikes me and speaking of getting old guests on. Yes. You I'm not a I'm not a recruiting person. You're not a recruiting person. We have never claimed to be recruiting people. Yeah. Under the old model. Okay. I'm smoking and laughing because there were times where you would bristle with Steve Logan and he would bristle at you. Because what do you know about? Oh, trust me. Right. Steve Logan ostensibly got fired from ECU over Friday night football games. And his relationship with in state coaches and his AD and his AD over a mix remarks about essentially we're going to do what the money says. The money says we're going to plan a Friday. We're going to plan a Friday, right. I was painting with a broad brush there pardon me. NC State. So under the old model NC State plays on a Friday night this week, which, hey man, how are you going to get the kids from Millbrook?

48:48You know, they're going to they're committed to Oregon and Ohio State, but they should be at your they should be at every one of your home games as an unofficial visit. They stay and Carolina nation. You should be fighting over these kids. These are the kids you should be fighting over by the way. AJ Randall at Garner. These are the kids you should be fighting over to come to your campus and come see football games. You know how you impress recruits football? You do what I did at Alabama. You go, you feed them. You feed them a bunch of food. Fuck the balloons. You just have a little bit of food for the family and the family comes has tickets to the game. Watch as the game has a great time and mom goes. This is where I want you to go. Yeah, that that's recruiting one oh one. State plays on a Friday when everybody else is playing by the way, except your school because they need the parking. So Cardinal Gibbons is playing tonight. There are other tonight. They're on the load. They're playing tonight. Okay. Okay. So under the old paradigm, this would be a perfect weekend no matter the opponent for Carolina to host the top in state recruits. But as we know now, top in state recruits are all committed to other schools and quite frankly, our schools are looking at the top in state recruits and going.

49:57I'm going to go get a fifth year player or a fourth year player and get him out of the portal because I can't afford to pay the reshot streets. I can't afford to pay a J Randall at Garner, you know what I'm saying? So under the old ways, this matters more under the new way to your point. The building's not going to be full. There's other shit going on to and it's just kind of like it's a show you won't be able to put your best foot forward. So so sometimes. Yeah, so what's what's the harm and maybe offering up even if the NCAA doesn't exist anymore. What's the harm and saying, hey, we screwed up. Well, okay, let's get back in the conspiracy thing. Okay. To wrap the point on the UNC before we move on. I can't help but shake the idea that North Carolina is perfectly fine. Letting these things see the public lighted day to build a case. Not a case to fire for cause, but just to build a case to say, hey guys, we tried. He wasn't built for this. He's an NFL coach. We tried. I'm not going to go full John prior like, well, you know, at least I tried.

51:04And then move on with my life, right? Because like we gave it a go. He's clearly not built for college. Our bad. Let's move on. Essentially, it's not us. We recognize this. It's him. It's just it's not working. And then they move on. You see what I'm getting at? Yeah. I could see that playing out. It's coming down. Before we move on actual football games, I did mention LSU, right? It looks like LSU in the SEC have cooled off. Since we last left that drama. That meeting that was supposed to take place today, moot because the roster's locked. Those guys who were at NFL training camp or not on the roster. So the SEC's backed off on it. I believe they've also delayed or rescheduled their conversation with the feds with the federal courts to establish their hard line rules about self governance. So it's not over. It's not over, but things have cooled off.

52:08So our good friend friend of this program who still owes you a game ball from 2011, my car. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I know he has thoughts. Verge Osberry played for him. Yeah. The AD. Yeah. And unless you played for him. Yes. So he was visiting him a few recently. Oh, okay. When all of this was going down. Oh, gee. We got he we got your answer. We got to get our church. The circus of the governor and the you know the Wade Rousse and just everybody and their mother trying to run the LSU. Yeah. Who's in charge? Yeah. Who is in charge? On places you're just like that, man. All right. So we got NC State Richmond tomorrow to the sports phone from a 252. Don't be surprised when CJ drops three passing two rushing TDs. 80% completion. Third of the yards because he is knocking on the Mount Rushmore of sunny day players back to bum against Vandy next week.

53:10Ouch, man. Can you make a clear distinction about sunny day players, though? Because I get where people are going with this, but CJ Bailey is not. I don't think he qualifies for your definition of sunny day players. And there's got to be a much more polite way of framing why that's streaky, but it doesn't qualify for sunny day. Maybe is there a way to do it? Listen, sunny day is a pejorative. Right. It is my version of bless your heart. Oh, okay. I kind of sort of need you to understand this clearly without me having to say it. Sure. Please bless your heart. Yes. Okay. CJ Bailey does not have that personality. So I am not going to put that pejorative on him. Now, he does need to find more consistency, especially on the road, but I don't think playing well at home against a one double a opponent makes him a sunny day player.

54:18He just makes him a normal player. Okay. That makes sense. Okay. That makes sense. But there is a personality aspect specifically to the NC state ones that were on the Mount Rushmore, Dennis Smith and Ryan Finley. There was a personality aspect. Wink, you know, David Tepper, Rod Brindemore. Yeah. Re between the lines. I believe is what Rod will say later in today's program. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So I am not putting a guy who has committed to NC state and stayed loyal to NC state in this era on the list of sunny day players. I'm not going to do it now. Speaking of the sports phone to a nine, one nine, kind of setting the table for what exactly gets accomplished against Richmond? Hey, guys. I know there's been a lot of talk about how with their interstate wins the Richmond game or loses the Richmond game. It's not going to really take the feeling the fans have had for that first performance out. I was curious. Do you think there's a score? Do you think there's a line at which people would be happy?

55:20I know Vegas has currently set the line at 30 points, but I actually think the line should be 36 because last year that is the exact amount that you and see beat Richmond by is you the 36 to 35. But if we can't beat last year's UNC score against Richmond, then I think fans have an actual right to be depressed. That should be the actual line for whether or not this season is going to be an object depressing just to log it out or whether or not they can share some life in this game. I know what you guys think. I like where your head is, but no, and yeah, losing would be bad. So bad. In fact, because NC State, there's a little bit of history here. NC State hasn't has won 36 straight games against one double A opponents. 36. Their last loss came on November 7, 1987.

56:20Okay. So famously in the 80s, Dick Sheridan bought the fighting paladins of Furman to Raleigh in 84 and 85 and beat NC State at Carter Finley Stadium. The AD at the time Jim Volvano said, Hey, man, the fuck you doing a firm. You should be an head coach at NC State. Yeah. Yeah. So Dick Sheridan becomes NC State's coach. Well, in 87, Dick Sheridan ends up losing. I'm going to let you guess the name of the team that they lost to. Would you like to guess now? What year 1987 the last one double A team to beat NC State last one double A team to beat NC State would be. It's like Delaware not Delaware. They were always too good. None of the. No, we're going to notice. Right. They were like, we don't need that. That wing T. We want that. It wasn't Richmond because remember in Dave Doran's first year, Nick Stady made a long feel long. I'm not sure. Right to beat Richmond by two. That's the only single digit game that Dave Doran has played against a one double A opponent. It's like all the minion, not all the minion.

57:28The team that North Carolina is playing this week East Tennessee State. Okay. In fact, Jim Volvano AD at NC State in 1987 hosted the AD from East Tennessee State at that football game. One Leslie G Robinson, less Robinson was the AD at East Tennessee State. Of course, would be the coach who replaced Jim Volvano at NC State. And he told less Robinson according to my firm and according to my East Tennessee State research. We invited you to homecoming. We're supposed to beat you. What are you doing? We got a lot to get to. It's a lightning. Staying with football, we can run through a few of these Duke Illinois. This is on the road. Duke with a I would say a janky win to start the season off against two lane. But guess what? Illinois also had a kind of win. They're both one of no, but both teams are looking at their results and going, and that's so great. If I looked at the stats correctly going into the game, I want to say Illinois was outgained by a smidge in this game.

58:40But then again, remember last year, Duke absolutely obliterated Illinois in the box score with one key distinction, turn over battle, turn the ball over five freaking times in that game. So this game, I think it's going to be another one of these rock fights. They're going to run the ball. They're going to do the defense. And I think they're going to get a little bit of revenge on Illinois on the road. They are six point dog in this game. But I do think we're going to have a real disgusting 13 to 10 type game for the blue. The blue. Very low score. I think you're misremembering. And this is time for a segment within a segment. My favorite son of the brand. I will see tomorrow night. Might need to get him in here to create a jingle. Who do we know? Who's calling our phone? Who do we know? Illinois? One Katen house. 1:00:47Texas knowing their deficiencies last year loaded up in terms of offense, right, including one Hollywood smothers. Last year was, if I remember correctly, pretty much a defensive struggle at arch that saw the bad bad end of it. I have a feeling this one's going to go differently. I'm not feeling that arch is going to put one on. There's a little this will. We will know more about a manning in this game than any other situation. Can you run this thing back? Can you get over on them? And if Texas gets out with this and who's to say it's going to go one of two ways for our purposes. Either archmaning is going to show. Yeah, man. He's turned it around. Give these guys time. Everybody runs their own race. It was the right thing to come back to Texas. Half stock was never going to drop, but he needs more seasoning. He'll be fine off to the NFL. He goes or we're going to have a game in which Hollywood smothers runs all over Ohio. Stater is the key difference in this thing. And then we're going to have yet another. Can we add a tab to the cycle of Dave Doran?

This is the former Titans coach, former UNC. I don't think he was a walk on because that took care of him there. I'm sure. But yeah. I believe Arthur Smith will be on the big board for the next Carolina coaches, but obviously he's going to have to perform in a high profile position as Ohio State OC last year. I thought Ohio State's offense was really criminal. They had that they had the best player in college football in Jeremiah Smith. 1:05:02You know, non conference big deal things. And then I try to think what else is going on here in terms of of this of like outside the schedule things. And of course you got your Duke care a lot of game, right? First two of those first game. Yeah, you get two of those still first game is going to be on February 13th. And of course they close out the season at home hosting Duke on March 6th. And then we go from there looks like league play for. Justin Ganey and NC State that starts at the end at the end of December. Who is it that they play? I don't know how this now know how the schedule for me. I know that North Carolina starts with Cal at the end of the year on December 30th. And we just get into the meat of the ACC schedule. And then the one and only regular season meeting between NC State and Carol on a lot of take place on January 9th. I'm bringing all these up because I got to think about after darks. Yeah, going forward. And then of course we've got that December 13th. I was sorry the December 15th matchup, which is a non conference game in Greensboro, which we knew about and we discussed but all that stuff is official with these with these schedules.

1:06:09And the tournaments of Greensboro is here too. So very excited about that. Very excited about that. Let's see you said this to me from Facebook. This is Harbaugh. 1:13:44managers and coaches about expectations and how to present yourself. The funny thing is when it comes to these conversations, it's not about the coaches. It's not about the kids. It's basically getting a handle on your parents who grip way too hard over you sports. He's definitely going to be in the majors. And this is this show I can only be so mad at this show. The show is a symptom. It's a symptom of a larger problem. And that is parents through social media who want to be the main character for everything. I'm here for my child. The fuck you are. You're here for yourself and you're using your child as an ends to a means to an end for your own celebrity. Also, here's my thing. Do parents get after it on road trips?

1:14:44Yes, they do. I've gotten after it on a road trip. Kids are old enough now, right? Hang out in the lobby. That's supposed to be a fun hangout, getting to know other adults, become friends and I become friends with parents on teams over the last couple of years, right? You're all in the fight together. We're all in the fight together. Like, you know, when we go over and do care a lot of hurricane stuff, you notice me and Mike's son, I'm VP of communications. We will commiserate over youth hockey things. Mike's got a new title. No, he's still the VP of communications with the, yeah, okay. It's just the job now involves the TV portion of it. I mean, respectful to Mike. No, no, no, I'm saying like it's got it on lock. Sonny's got it on lock. So anyway. So I see all these things and it's like, you're getting drunk at the bar for a, for a youth hockey or for a youth baseball event. That's unacceptable. And the problem is the problem with this is is that other parents are going to see this and they're going to copy this. They're going to think, oh, this is great.

1:15:45I love this. We got our cool mom group. How old are you? That's, that's the real. That's you, right? Right. Like we got our mom. We're old. Yours, you're the bullies. Oh, I saw somebody bullying my child. So I called this other guy a little bitch. Who's the bully now? And again, I've seen this. I've seen this with the cool kids club. All right. I've seen this in youth sports with the cool clip with the click. You got to click and you're not in the club. That's not new. That's not new. But we don't need to see this shit. Sorry. I'm like, that legitimately pisses me off. And I'm going to fucking watch it. That's the worst part. That's the worst part about it. Is I'm going to watch it? And I hate myself for this because I got to get mad at something. Joe gets to use my favorite phrase. I don't have the bandwidth for that. Why are you using my lines on me? Don't use my lines on me.

1:16:46Those are my lines. Okay. I don't have the bandwidth. Anyway, speaking of youth hockey, I'm interested in this transition. You know who else is a hockey dad? I do. Rod Brinamore is a hockey dad. Head coach, Carol on her campaigns, we went over to weight competition center earlier today to sit down with Rod Brinamore. Go over some of the summer in the celebration, but also, hey, guess what? Hockey season's back. And 19 days. Yeah. And I think that's kind of where I really wanted to go with the conversation. There's been, it's one of those things where it's like, there's been plenty of interviews, plenty of conversation, plenty of features, rightfully so deserved about the cup and everything else. But the season didn't end. The NHL did not fold up after the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup back in June. It's back to the business of hockey. And one of the things that the Carolina Hurricanes have done in their history, going back to 02, going back to 06 is not making the playoffs after they've made it to the Stanley Cup.

1:17:48They got to a no two. They want no six and things kind of fell apart from there. Obviously, that is not with this iteration of the Carolina Hurricanes is about. If anything, the Carolina Hurricanes are once again odds on favorites to be contenders in the NHL. But as you know, there's something that you and I talk about all the time. As hard as winning is and as hard as winning can be, you know what's harder than that? Doing it again, not falling off. How do you adjust yourself after you've been chasing it? And we did talk about that and more with Brinamore. Joining us on the heaster automotive group microphone here at Weight Competition Center, head coach, Carolina Hurricanes, two times Stanley Cup champion. Now, Rod Brinamore has a nice ring to it. It could be all worse. All worse. So I'm curious.

1:18:50This summer, Joe and I were talking about this and the iterations of previous Carolina Hurricanes Cup runs, right? 02, 06. Obviously, this one, 06, you win, you celebrate, you go back to it. Were there any sort of lessons learned from your process in 06 to now being the head coach and your process? And how, hey, the season's starting up and the celebration time is is wrapping up. Yeah. Well, we'll see if we learn. I mean, obviously, you know, you could go back to that and I do. I mean, we didn't make the playoffs a nice year. Yeah. Now, there were a lot of circumstances. People, you know, don't really, we had a ton of injuries. We, we, so that played a part of that. But, you know, it's what you just said, it's the celebrations are wrapping up. Like they're over. We got a, we're on a new journey now and that's, that's going to be the hard part because everyone's going to relive it and everywhere you go, they're every city you're in, they're going to bring it back up because that's new to them. You just coming in and they want to talk about it.

1:19:51And so there's always this kind of, I don't call it a distraction, but it's, there's this constantly dragging into that other race. And, you know, we got to turn the page here. At some point in that, that point is next week. There's not a lot different for you, personnel lives for the team. But one big change, obviously in goal and every time we talk to you about what happens in goal, you always reference Paul Schoenfeldt and say he's in charge. He does these things. And I thought about that during the playoffs. I thought about that during the, during the playoffs. Not only did Freddie, you know, we had talked to you in January and he was in the slump and you said. Basically Paul handle that and he did to kind of resurrect Freddie the way that he did. But Bussi is a guy who, who struggled at the end of the regular season. And I'm assuming Paul worked some of his Paul magic with Bussi as well for him to have as much time off as he did. And then to be inserted into the Stanley Cup final and to perform the way that he did was truly remarkable.

1:20:55I kind of thought about what you had said. You always give other guys credit. So I wanted to give you a chance to sing some praises. That's their job. Yeah, that's Paul's job is to get the goal he's ready. So really the credit is like you, you just reminded me he was out for a long time. He didn't play for whatever long that was. But Freddie went through that all run. And then he came in and it looked like he had an astabit. What's that about? That's the preparation they've been doing in this whole off time and and undo with me. That's Paul they can care of those guys and you know, making sure they're ready to go and then you got to give a bus credit because that's one thing to say you're ready and put in the work. He has to go out and there and do it in the biggest stage ever and he did. So good on both those guys. Got a lot of trust in Paul. He's a great teacher and he knows those guys better than I do. He's with them all the time. And so that's a good I think it's just a good way to do things. Why would I interject in the sum that I'm kind of I know by watching a little but I'm like we're on the same page and

1:22:02now he's he's hit all the right buttons. So you go into the season with Busy and Kochikov. No Friday anymore and maybe who knows what else is happening about behind the scenes. If there's a major moat to be made or not, but your comfort level going into the season with those two guys who we've seen. Obviously Busy on the biggest stage last year, but there's going to be a little bit. Okay, kid do it again. And then Kochikov can be a little bit of a thing. We don't know what he is yet. Busy or say no, the other guy. Oh, okay. Because he hasn't really played a full year as a guy. We also been injured all last year and some I don't know. He's got a lot of promise and you've always been saying that so maybe this is a year that he gets a little more consistent with that opportunity and then we'll see where that goes. But we we think pretty highly that kid. The last question I'll ask about the goal tending situation, your conversations with Paul. There's also a third factor in here. I saw the press release you guys have kind of handled the thing with primo, right?

1:23:03There was you end up with Busy with the machinations of the waiver wire that that's deep in the weed stuff. It played out the way that it played out. So what kind of conversations do you have about the tandem you have and then also making sure that. You know, there's like this lightning in a bottle idea with bussy and primo and how you kind of handle that going into the season. Well, I don't really know. There's much to handle. Okay. It's pretty simple straight forward and we you know, I think we got probably. Premo's a very good goal. He's the best minorly goalie that's out there. He's out here to come tremendous year. And there's probably high likelihood we will lose him again. Okay. You know, like this. I mean, it's a good chance. So, you know, we're not prepared for that necessarily, but you know, he's he's got that ability. Which I did that, you know, that's good comfort from our end. I know that we we feel pretty good that we have these three young guys that, you know, hopefully we keep them. Yeah. You know, in the mix because as we know, probably going to need that third guy and it's nice to have that that depth.

1:24:09Go back to the cup. We're going to be we're going all over the place today. It's kind of free association, right? We taught to Eric Cole after we saw the embrace that you and Cole had at the parade. Like it was a scene from a movie if we're being honest. And there was like this clear connection, obviously for reasons we don't have to explain, but it was cool to see. It was almost like this bridging of eras together at this parade. And the last time you guys were parade, it was also totally different on Hills Road Street, right? Totally different. Yeah. That's an understanding. Very very different vibe. People forget that you had two parades back at OSX. There was the one in the parking lot and then there was the follow of blood, right? So we we talked to Eric about that. It's just one of these reminders of these battles you guys go through, right? And you're forever together because of those battles. And maybe I'm reading to mention to it, but I feel like there's a similar connection for different reasons with Jordan stall, right?

1:25:10You're his coach. He wants to win another one. You want to win another one. You've been open about the fact that it was all you want to see your players do it. But also he wanted you to get it too. So like that, what is that? How is that relationship evolved as a coach player and then winning the cup and all the things that came out from it? Well, that's that's a how do you answer that? You threw a lot of that. I was a lot of emotion sentishing. Yeah, but if you go back to the original your comment with Eric. Cool. You when you win this thing and you are it's your brothers for life. It just is you it's hard to explain it. So you're in there and you understand what's gone in to achieving that and how hard it is. And so, you know, I hadn't seen him in a while and it was like you said, I like how you put that. It was bridge and the gap be really and those guys feel more in the parade. It's it's a very unique thing. No, that group came through. So we had that Eric Stall Knight. I hate the right.

1:26:10It was it last year or whatever. And we everyone came back and and I brought him into the locker room. I mean, it was on purpose. I want to then the meat our guys and the current guys saw what was going on there. They saw that connection. They talked about it and it's special. You know, and now they have it. Right? But you don't get unless you win. I get to it's a crazy thing because but that's just what how it works. Yeah. So I think that had a lot to do that we we we we celebrated Eric's night and then all the players came after. And there was this you talk about bridging the gap. There was this, you know, the old guys and the new guys and they're all mingling and they're all hurricane. And now they're all champions, which is really cool. Yeah. That that is a cool moment. I'll remember and and that hug. And Eric when we're good buddies have been at the same a while and it was just cool that that we got together. And the next time I see him will probably do the same. I haven't seen him a while.

1:27:10He's coaching now. He went on to get down to Charleston, right? I'm right going down there. So I'll tell him I'll time high November. Yes. Right. No, but so anyway, I don't know if that answer you question, but the Jordan stall is it's I've known him forever. Yeah. I mean, you know, the connection with his his family is brother clearly. And all I've seen what he's gone through helps and downs and both for leader and a team and then personal. I mean, it's we are. I don't know how we're connected. I mean, I don't like thinking I'm like as dad because that makes me feel really old. But I'm also too old to be his brother. Right. Right. There's a there's a special connection there mutual respect, I guess. And we'll always have that here. You're not the kind of guy to like hold a grudge or flip people off. But you've had to answer a lot of questions about when will Jordan's tall scored goals? Yeah. I think the six in the San Leica final to put his name on the cons might. That would I can finally you could just say like just point.

1:28:11I wish you a new picture on the wall in the press room. So the next Jordan stall question you get just there's his goals. He was saving them. He was saving from when we needed them the most. Maybe he was. No, they all counted man. They all were you. Every single one of them is serving cons might winner for sure. Speaking of good moments and maybe a private moment if you if you wouldn't mind sharing. We were in the real toe watching from a million miles away game six and big giant screen and Elyrs scored the empty neck gold to make it three nothing. And you could see like your assistants are celebrating players. You know now they know you took this beat and you walked this way. And I got to think maybe you said something to your pops or something along those lines. But what was that moment for you? You just it's the real like that's the moment where I'm like okay. We're going to win. Yeah. You know I just tune out and there's a minute to go or whatever they're probably winning. But you can't I just didn't let myself go there. Like you know you're still game mode.

1:29:11It's like got this next shift who's who's a match up literally who's up next. I'm trying to coach it because I don't want to be that guy that most three nothing. Well, it's three now. Then now I keep about we scored three goals in 39 seconds. Like all this is going to see my head. But it was just the realization that it's all it's it's happening. It's happening. Yeah. And I'm that you know changes your life. And that that I also know that because it's done it before. So now I'm like wow this for all these guys. I mean that's all flooding in and like split second gets the reality we've we've done it. And for at least that little bit of time here you're feeling pretty good about it. You say it changes your life again. I differences between 06 and 2026. There was no real social media back into right and six. Every time I log on to our account to do something. I'm seeing the cups somewhere. Right. How much time have you spent parading the cup you specifically you specific and everybody get today. But I feel like you're doing a little bit representation. I had my day with it.

1:30:12Yeah. And I made the full use of it. But I love your comment about social media. So like for three days after we won I sat on my phone. Yeah. I did and I just did what you said. I followed the guys with the cup celebrating and I'm there down in Hillsboro street. Like they're doing and I'm loving every minute of it. Yeah. Because that's I'm like, yes. Like you're supposed to celebrate this thing and enjoy it because what is what's the point of doing this? Or not, you know, and they know how to party. I love it. Then you're kind of living through them a little bit. I can't go do that stuff. Come on. You're not going to go to bits. You're not going to go to bait the spot and not going back. Come on. But it's awesome. That's what it's all about. And then really what I love about even more, if I was social media and it's still popping up on my phone is whatever it is that highlights. I got it. Some nowhere else than it will say game five. I'm sorry. And I'll just I must have played down a hundred times. You know, and it's I love that stuff. It's reliving some that you know the outcome that's really, you know, positive.

1:31:13So again, I've got to turn the page here at some point, but it's nice to be reminded of things that went well. It's hard though. It's not to go not to go too far back into the conversation we started with, but it's hard to kind of turn that page. Not so have you like, like, princess process. Look, we've known you long enough to know that you are about that process. We like, I have full belief that you will be able to turn the page. But as a coach, how do you get that through? Once it's time to start it because they're all human in there. They're still guys having, you know, the cups just left Raleigh and it's going to a couple guys are getting it management and stuff, but it's it's constant reminder. Like, you know, we got a we're on a different journey now. And that's what I like about this. And obviously it's a great problem that of course, I mean, everybody wants to have it. But number one, you mentioned already referenced the past. So you learn from your past. And so I was part of that. So I know I guess see the signs when things are going to have to be tightened up.

1:32:19Yep. But it is the same group. You know, you mentioned it. We have the same group. And so somebody might think that's a not a good thing. I think it's the opposite because these guys, they understand. Yeah, they understand this. And we have a new guys ensure like how this supposed to go. No, they've just went through it three months. They got the pay off and got to pay off. So they know we got the roadmap. They get they got it in their back pocket. It's like, and so they'll know when it's not quite right. You know, it might have our bumps in along the way. I anticipate a little more. You got a weird start to season two. I mean, start at five o'clock. You got the ceremony. You're going to Finland. I mean, there's a couple of injuries. A couple of key guys out, whatever. You know, Jarvis is scrolling Instagram. He's looking at his highlights. Yeah, probably is. But but I think like they understand like the good news is it was worth it. All this work that you put in. You know, it took a long time. Yeah. It was worth it. So now, but I think it's going to be easy to keep them like on on track. Like, you know, if we get off it a little, this is an athlete coach mentality.

1:33:19I don't think a lot of us understand you did it. You want to do it again. Yeah, right. So let me see. Even more. I heard someone talk about it. I don't know if it makes sense. But when you have them on, there's this you're motivated to win. I get you think you, but once you win, you're inspired. Mm hmm. Which is to get to do it again because you lived it now. And that's more powerful. Right. So it's like we want that. Like you've tasted it. It's like, you know, you get addicted to it. Yeah. You want to do it again. Right. This is what winning is about. Yeah. So that's what I'm hoping that we get addicted to the winning. There's one more guy. I've been dying. I'm talking to you about to get credit properly to. And it's another guy that you've known forever. That's Chris. I'll find. I mean, I know Jordan is the cons might winner. But I could make an argument. Chris could be inscripted underneath at least like. And it co that won't give me a vote coach. But if they did, I might have written in Chris. I'll find because it's a full playoff award. You're to that mantra.

1:34:19All the pivotal game three. And I'm not sure a lot of people understood it until the Vegas series when you have a new coach to his situation. Doesn't really know his video guy that well. And they had a couple moves there. A couple of challenges that they made that didn't work a couple of times. Maybe they should have challenged, but they didn't because they didn't have that kind of relationship that you and Chris had. Well, yeah, it's interesting. You talk about the challenges. Like honestly, that's the least of Chris's value. Okay. So we have a pretty public one. No, he is. And that tells you how valuable. That's my point. You're saying that this is great. He should be bit for that alone. I'm telling you that's the tip of the iceberg. This is what we say. He'd thank you. And so yeah, we have another guy that kind of does the video challenges. He's just the last one to say yes or no. You know what I mean? Like I'm doing this. And then we go off of it. But his work is in the preparation of our team.

1:35:19Cut everything off. Let me see all the scenarios. We know exactly what we're getting into. And in eight years that I've been doing this as a head coach, but he's been here. I was there. I watched it. This team is prepared better as good. I'm going to say we're the best prepared. I think we are. We don't nothing surprises this team. And that's because he's like, you've got to watch for this. This is what we got to, you know, and that's not you micromanaging him telling I need X Y. That's what's great about the relationship. I'm known for 26 years is he he's in my head. He knows what I need to see. So in between periods, we have like the adjustment time. We have seven minutes. Okay, we come off the ice clock starts at 15. We got. Players got to get ready to go at six minutes to get back in go to the bathroom. So we've got a quick two three minute period to get to the players. We got seven minutes to figure it out. Yeah. And I got to work the power play. Gleases doing the penalty kill and we're zipping through to see what we got. He's already the five on five stuff. And he's like, Rod, you need to see this because he knows what I'm looking for.

1:37:22Yeah. People he gets is that he didn't normally really talk about him. Why do I have young guys excel? Everyone's like, they're good. Yeah. Yes. Of course they're good. But guess what? He sits with them at every shift. After every game. Yeah. And then watch with us and then it's just hammering home all the details, all the details. I give him. Bolt load credit to because he's also one of the best teachers in the game. And we got him on staff. You know, so you mentioned Paul, you only got to leave him out his glies and glies showed up on the scene. And never coached. I iron him as an assistant coach in the NHL. He had never coached. You might have coached great in when he was five at that point. I mean, right. And look at him. He's become one of the best head coach or assistant coaches and he'll be a head coach someday. Yeah. Lucky. We talked about the group. It's mostly back mostly back. We talked about Freddie and how you move on from that. There are some injuries that you mentioned. Guys got to get better, healthy, got to work through that. I'd be remiss if I didn't ask you about the kitchen.

1:38:24Yeah. It's not you are not the one who deals with that. But you do have to prepare for who is available and who is not available. So what is your approach to this offseason with all the headlines and all your insiders and all this other stuff going on? A lot of noise, but you're focused on one thing. So what are you focused on? I know on the guys that are here. Yeah. I mean, I'm hearing not here. Okay. I can't help me. Can't help us. No, you want to be here. Great. If you don't, I'm not wasting time on being thinking about it. Okay. So right now, you're not here. Okay. We move on. You're just planning on supporting it up. We got now. We might have some competition. You know, I'm pretty much every year. You come in to training camp. The seats on the bus are full. That's probably why I never, if you notice my training camps, we've never put the groups together. There's there's an NHL team because they're not. There's no spots. Yeah. I might mix it up. Mike, there's not made me this year. You might see a couple guys in the so called a group or whatever

1:39:27because there is spots available. Who compete for which we really haven't had. Whatever. Now, there are instances where guys do create a spot. I mean, maybe I'm misremembering Jackson Blake, right? Jackson Blake played his way. Jari. Jari's another one. Jari, when he first came on the scene, we didn't have him pencil. Yeah. And yeah, of course. That's what the games are for. Yeah. And those guys get more of an opportunity because we don't play the veteran guys like why you get it? They get 84 games at count. Why am I why you sticking in games that don't? And that's what happened. You know, and yes, they know that could happen. You know, who knows, but it's probably unlikely. Okay. I'm thinking to myself here, the we've talked about this before, but what the mark of true leadership is you hire people. You trust them and do your job. And then you work together in concert and then look at all the credit that you've given all the different people just in the course of this conversation and all the different offseason topics that you've had.

1:40:29But again, under the premise of you're not one of the whole grudges and some of these other things. When you win the Stanley Cup as a coach and on the same team that you won as a player, there's now a group. It's to Blake, who some consider to be the greatest ever coach in this game and Rod Brando Moore. The unique position you find yourself and this is obviously a Hall of Fame set up for you. To Blake was elected as a as a player. So that we don't have to get into this idea of why can't we elect Rod Brando Moore as Rod Brando Moore the his entire body of work, right? So I'm curious kind of what you think. A, I don't think we've ever really asked you about the Hall of Fame. A is it important for you to go in as a player and now B, can we just get ourselves into a conversation where Rod Brando Moore is judged based on his body of work and contribution of how you I never understood the I still don't really like you're in a Hall of Fame. He has to be a category like doesn't really make any sense. It's only your role.

1:41:29I believe it's the only sport that does that. You're a young famer than you to be in the hall. Yes or no, right there. If I'm not then fine. But like I know I've lost like at this point like it's like it's a non factor to me because if I'm not in at this point with some of the guys that have gone in and I'm just talking as a player. Yeah. Then I'm not getting in. Okay, right? And that's just just go numbers just put them up. But if you put like I always think if clear there's a bias of some sort if you just took the pictures off and you just stuck the bios and you just put in there I'm in for sure because why would that guy get in when he doesn't have the even though you know Marquis carbono, whatever numbers don't track and those guys down. You're just saying they're in. So what's what's so clearly and then you want you starting to know the ends and else of how it happens. Yeah. You got to have somebody in there that's an advocate that's pushing you because look who's just look at the history of it. And then if you have something that's not advocate, you're done. So you can read between the lines. That's fine.

1:42:30I just in be honest with you, I've gotten way more play by not getting in because every year someone's having an interview and I'm like, if I got in 10 years ago, no one be talking about it. Every year I got brought up and then I'm just like, this is, you know, for whatever good or worth, I'm constantly getting brought up about why you know I get in. You're my, but it's kind of nice to be a trailblazer in this particular sense of maybe let's look at this body of work. It might right. You never know. You would think common sense would I think it's right because it'd be just, you know, for the organization, you know, it's, yeah, we kind of get overlooked. And now we're starting not to. So you're wearing a wolf pack hat. I'm sure you and Tori Holt can have a conversation about this. Yes, because his name also gets brought up a lot because of the pro football Hall of Fame and things like that. Last question about the Hall of Fame now that I'm thinking about it. I mean, I've, I've been lucky enough to go to the Hall of Fame to go check it out. I took Jacob when we were up in Buffalo for a tournament earlier this year.

1:43:31And I was adamant. I'm like, Hey, you know, here's the canes. You know, here's Charlie's dad, you know, all that kind of stuff, right? And, you know, I pointed out to him. Here's Rods. You're silky, right? Here he is on the, on the cup, all that kind of stuff. You have your place in hockey, you know, like, I guess it's one of those, you, like you're pointing out there's a politics to Hall of Fame. There's no politics about the cup. Right. When that's the only thing that matters, like who the other thing is just a pop layer of context. I'm just, I like who cares, honestly. Yeah. Like at this point, it would have meant something probably more to me. If I got in when there was people still around that I could thank they're gone. Okay. Some of the people that mattered or they don't even live anymore. Okay. You know what I mean? Yeah, I would, we want to, and that would have, that it would have meant something. And so at this point, I'm like, I got the Stanley Cobb. I mean, that's, that's what it's all about. I mean, that's what I dreamt of as a kid. And that's where I still do this is for that. So they have the stuff is crazy and whatever. Now speaking of the larger community culture of hockey, very Malvor was passed away.

1:44:35Age 70, you talked about the Canes not really getting a lot of credit. I, I remember buried going for the Canes back in06. Like he was one of the lone ESPN guys back in06, but nobody, everybody's like, ah, regular season, that doesn't matter playoffs. It's all going to get exposed in the playoffs. Barrier, he was, he was on to guys. All right. I'll take your word for that. Yeah, he was, he was on it back in the back. I can't say everybody for ESPN, but I think Barry kind of had, had Yon's back. But that's interesting. So I mean, for a guy of a certain age, me in particular Joe, Barry was a foundational piece to hockey fandom. He did more for the game as a ESPN commentator than he did. Maybe coaching Gretzky or something like that. I mean, is that, is that something that you kind of picked up on as, you know, you and Barry running any of each other back in the day? That kind of stuff or really even met him. Okay. I didn't really, I mean, I don't even know that I actually have ever even been in the same room with him. Interesting. Believe it or not, but I'm with you. Like he was back then when hockey was on ESPN and it was just kind of getting gone. He was one of the, you know, people you watched and you know, to learn about the

1:45:38game. If you didn't know, just to get entertained because he was kind of a little bit ahead of his time now as far as personalities. It's the mallet all that stuff. Big show. And yeah, and show within the show. Yeah, that would now it's that's what it the all we watch now. Yeah, it's too bad, right? I mean, it's life right now. I guess it gets everybody. Well, congratulations to you. I know it was extremely happy for you to see the team out of this success. It did for you in particular. I know it's the process and the fact that I have the payoff for the process is something. I will say you did break my heart at one particular moment though. And I just need to feel the need to air this to you now. I knew there was a set up fear. Yeah. But no, congratulations for real. Shit, man, you went to Blake. I think I put that on a shirt somewhere and ride it when you know it even I guess. Well, they can walk into the hall of fame and see what is a 12 Stanley cups or whatever that could is.

1:46:39You went on pack Macafe's podcast or show and you cursed. And I was like, I did it. Yes, they did. There was no horn. People are not used to hearing you curse without a horn because of the social media. It's always been my goal. Like Jarvis will curse with us. So it's always been my goal. Not having it today. And I never signed it until the guys who I believe in, the people who work, you know, with me for me, he wouldn't say for you, would say with. It's just fast like last year before they had won a cup in the winter. I had said, you know, all these years we've been looking for the next Mike Sheskey and Roy Williams. Well, it's not in hockey. It's Rod Brandt anymore. Yeah.

1:49:40And people like, well, he's got to win something before he said that. I'll say, no, I said sometimes you have to look at what the coach is. And as much, you know me, I'm the biggest Roy Williams fan. There is. Roy would and Roy would never integrate any of his assistants, but he was all. That's not also like you're not getting here. I'm saying that's Paul Schovelscha. That's Chris. I'm right. Like that's not me. That's not what I do. You know, like Mike Sheshevsky, I'm sure promoted the heck out of assistance to get jobs. But I don't know if you ever really heard him publicly say like, yeah, you know, the reason we had Danny Ferry and Johnny Dawkins is because I hired Mike Bray. Mike Bray helped from Dunblum. I would like you know, it's just it's just a very unique, unique perspective. And obviously comes from being not only an ultra successful player, but the way that he had success. Truly as a player is the same way that he's had success as a coach in that a heart. You get your hard days work is what you've earned.

1:50:42That's your pay. Your hard days pay is your hard days work. And that process will never change. I mean, I thought you had the right question in the beginning when you had asked about, well, how do you apply what you learned as a player? You know, because you know, get a little bit deeper on this whole fame conversation. The knock or the geek carbono of it all. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Was G13 was part of three Stanley cups. I believe with Montreal or multiple. Right. So if something goes different in 02, if something goes different in 97 with the flyers. Okay. We're talking about it completely. 1:51:45graded players of all time. That's not Rod Brindemore. Okay. So he won the cup three times as a player, Toblake. But then eight as the coach of Montreal. But literally, Rod Brindemore and Toblake are the only two people on the Earth, whoever were on the Earth, who won a cup with a team as a player. Yeah. And then as the coach. And if you think, well, none of the other players have done it. Uh, pretty much have all have coached maybe not, you know, Gretzky obviously can coach the oilers. Yeah. But a lot of really good players have tried their hand as a coach. And it has not turned out in their favor. And I think the body of work, again, I believe his body of work is a unique case that should be taken into account. It's his contributions to hockey. Whether that's it should be considered his as a player and as a coach. The only, I thought the read between the lines thing. Again, Gileo and making the obvious points that we've both made for however many years.

1:52:46Yes. Even if Ron Francis isn't torpedoing his Hall of Fame case, he's not helping it. He's not helping it. So at the risk of sounding like a sif, if you're not for me, you're against me. You underestimate my power. So to me, I thought that was interesting for him to say it without saying it. Read between the lines, right? So it's interesting to hear him say that the Hall of Fame would mean more, would have meant more while his father was alive or to say like, because now you're pointing to that person thanking them publicly. Yes. But the only part I don't like, and he could say it now because you have that second cup and it's there is a different validation there. The only thing I don't like, this is kind of like that we're getting in the Tony Bennett territory of remember before Tony Bennett won the national title. It was it doesn't matter. I love my players. It's the journey. Da da da da da da da. But then when they won the national titles, this is the greatest evil time. Oh my God. Yeah. This is the greatest story of all like, sorry, Virginia people, fuck straight off. But yeah, sometimes you just have to throw a straight. Okay, man. Sometimes you have to.
