favorite co-hosts of all time, Matthew Sponauer and Theo Ash. And it's a beautiful Sunday afternoon. We've had a great weekend of St. Patrick's Day, Pi Day, but the most important thing has been us watching the interior defensive lineman for the upcoming NFL draft class. And that's what we're going to give you today. Our top five, maybe a little on-roll mention action, but Matt Theo, before we get into it, how are you guys doing? I thought I might calendar it says St. Patrick's Day is the 17. Okay, yes, but no one is celebrating on Tuesday. People are celebrating on Saturday and why not today Sunday? I mean, you can celebrate on Sunday, but like the parties are all on Saturday. I feel like I see, I see. I'm wrong, but like I feel like every one that I know, no, no, no, I just would say the calendar is something my dad makes every year. And it's got like pictures of us on it. And last year he got Caroline's birthday wrong. It was put it on the 15th of November instead of
the 14th. So I was wondering if he made another brutal, I'll be at less brutal in a from a person, like a person, a person standpoint, but I was just wondering if he meant an error. No, no, it really is on March 17th. It's something. Yeah, it's just a little celebrate. Okay, I just need to get that straight in my head. Matt, I heard you're moving. Yeah, I just got the keys to my new place. So right after this episode, I'm basically going to start moving all my stuff over. Is it a penthouse? Is it a penthouse top floor type deal? Yeah, yeah, it's a penthouse top floor type. No, it's not it's not first floor second floor. How about that? Okay. And if this episode gets enough likes, I'll put out the address. Moving is always a bigger pain in the ass than you expect that I'm just now like in the last maybe 10 minutes have looked around my room
and my apartment and it has hit me. And it's like, you're always like, honestly, this won't be so bad. Yeah, we can get it done. We're going to get the you all it's going to be all good. And then it's like you look in the corner, you're like, right, the fish tank, you know, right that the TV stand is made of class that type of stuff. So really, I'm getting ready for battle, but I'm pumped to talk about defensive interior lineman. I've also had a lot going on. I mean, I've really come to terms with the fact that I'm wrong about my sushi take. I'm sure she is fantastic. I feel like I've been negative against sushi. It doesn't fill you up. Who cares? It's just because one roll of sushi is not that many calories, but you can go get cheap sushi somewhere and you can get a meal as worth for the same amount. I was a bad take. I tried ordering a prop for a video, a monical. And my idea was, it was going to be like $5 monical versus $500 monical. And the idea was going to be like, the guy was clearly trying
to justify spending $500 on his monical and was insecure about it or whatever. So he'd be like, yeah, this one, I mean, this one, obviously, with the features. But the monical got stolen off of my porch from Amazon, $500 monical got stolen. I'm not actually there is no $500 on a monical blade. Which I think is both a sign that it probably wasn't going to be that funny of a video from God and he's protecting me. And I think it's funny, maybe funnier that there's now like a very appropriately dressed villain walking around coming to Kentucky who is going to be wearing a monical and snatching things from people I'm assuming. I do even wear a monical. Is it like, it's a great question. I have no idea. And when I go and look at like, well, the steam punk ones come with it like a strap sometimes, but that's not really
like the type of monical that I'm thinking about. A lot of them just kind of seems like the guy is like closing his eye around it. You know what I mean? Yes, correct. Putting it in between here and here. But I don't see how that could be practical to wear long term. I think they're more of like a tool to look at like kind of like a magnifying glass type thing where maybe you can like squint and sort of hold it right here and then like maybe work on something. I don't think dudes were just walking around wearing a monical like 24 seven. I think that might be the disconnect, but I honestly have no idea at all. Yeah, it's supposed to just you're supposed to use your eye muscles. The natural tension of your skin will hold the monical in place. See, that makes sense if you're like working on something and you need to look at something finally and you do it for like 10 minutes. It does not make sense if you're wearing it all the time. It's yeah, this is this is odd. I don't I don't like this. But Matt, I think that would have
actually been a very funny video. I really enjoy the spawn hour to corporate spawn hour shenanigans that that you get into. And I think that would have been probably your best one yet. Five dollar monical. This is five hundred coping about the teens. I think that would have been great. I like it. Matt, you made a video. You were talking about like what do you call it? Like content creator TikTok. Yeah, there's no good name for that if you're making videos. What do you say? If you do I do TikTok, you can't say no. Matt, you say you are a you are a managing member of an up and coming sports. But that's not that that completely is completely wrong essentially. Work in tech. See, that's also not true. That's like you can try to completely disguise it. And it's like it's not even that I'm necessarily that embarrassed about having a podcast and doing
TikTok. I'm an influencer. Let's let's let's let's live in power. Someone said someone said digital princess in the comments. This video and I really like that one. So digital digital digital no mad. It's not really a job title. That's kind of just working. Yes, but I learned I learned the other day that that weavers in the 1800s got to work from home. They just got to they got yarn delivered to them and then they had to spin it into cloth and they got to do it at home. I mean, people the farther back you go in time, I feel like people got to work from home more. Yeah, I guess that's true. People if you wanted to buy something from someone, you had to go to them. I always feel like working from home seems like a modern thing like, oh, there's zoom now. There's computers now, but you could work from home in the 1800s. But it wasn't it wasn't necessarily good.
It'd be a farm to be a to be a spinner then to be a weaver because it wasn't it wasn't good to live in the 1800s at all. Pretty much. I'm like a king. Then maybe it was good to live in the 1800s. I think I'd rather be me now than a king in 1800. Probably yes. I think so. Without thinking about it at all or doing any analysis, I'd rather I'd rather be right now. If there are any experts on the economy, I guess just any economists in our comment section that could be like, yeah, that would be better or worse to be a king in the 1800s. I don't know. But what do you mean? It's always worse. I mean, from an economist perspective, it's always better to be a king than a laborer. But from a I like Twitter. I like Dr. it's honestly one of the benefits that I like driving as no Twitter. I like driving. I like
sure that from that perspective, it's better to think about like in the 1800s, they didn't have highways, man. That's a pretty big it's a pretty big win for the like walking like you can't walk around if you're the king. But you're it's still be it's still be 1800. I really I really really really think. I don't know. I don't know. If you were maybe if you were born as a king and you had no perspective for life, but if you had a hundred hounds and you had like great cooks and great dinners every night. But but like 1800s cooking might not be as good as 2026 cooking. No, they made delicious meals back then. Yeah, I'm actually very confident that the cooking was about the same. You would eat better as a king in the 1800s versus not again, whatever now. Yeah, a McDonald's now McDonald's the duck and the man he just texted us and said medicine is the
best argument for today because you're not getting very good medicine like you're getting the best medicine at the time. But it still might just be like, Oh, you have a headache. Yeah, let's cut open your head. Yeah, you better like the leech it like being a king with leeches or being a laborer with antibiotics. Sure. That might take the antibiotics. They didn't have maybe I really think if you have the perspective of what life is like now in 1800, you'd be like, right, you'd be like that damn it, you know, walking around probably every single day. It's probably very smelly back then in general. Like, yeah, the cities were walkable because it was horses, you know, and they'd probably stunk. But if you were just straight up born in 1800 as a king, your life was probably probably pretty sick. Yeah. So yeah, I could see the argument for it. But you guys want to talk about
some football, some draft prospects, the best defensive lineman in this class. Yes. All right. Well, let's start. Do you want to start at number one or start at number five, Theo? You're called blade. Let's start at number one. Let's start at number one. I agree with you. Who do you guys all have as the best defensive lineman in this class? And why? I have Peter Woods. Theo? Mm-hmm. I've got Caleb Banks. We all have someone different. I have McDonald. Okay. Yeah. So those are the top three guys. Personally, I have banks at four. Now, I think I think part of that is because he's a little bit of a difficult projection. Not necessarily a difficult projection, but he's a very unique play style and body. So why did you put him at one? I thought he, I thought that he was the artist of block to put it most simply.
And I think that the combination of of length and explosiveness and his ability to kind of yank you around and move you off your spot and get around you that way. I thought it was just a pretty ferocious combination of things with him. I thought he was winning in a variety of different ways and a variety of different techniques as a looper, even kind of starting at a four-eye technique and kind of looping around the edge on some sort of some pressure stunt when he had to contain. I thought I saw him even, you know, get around to the tackles shoulder. And then once he set that up, he kind of canceled it and got inside. I just thought there was a lot of different variety with him. I saw him just crumple people with his with his strength and his length and things like that. And just overall, he seemed like the biggest handful. Just really, really seemed like a difficult guide to go up against and things like pad level, things like leverage. I think they can be a little bit overrated
with defensive tackles if you're finding ways around him. Like Chris Jones has terrible pad level. Right. Like he's up high all the time. He's never the low man. But it's not exactly a blanket statement to say, you know, low man wins if someone's grabbing you almost on the back of your name plate and throwing you forward. You know, there are ways to kind of get wins from those high positions. And I thought banks made the most of his stature, honestly, with with some of those strategies. So I really liked banks. And I really liked the way he was just kind of a nightmare to block, I thought. Yeah. I mean, he's massive. I mean, that I would say the biggest animal, like in terms of like just physical stature of the guys that we'll probably talk about today. And you see a lot of guys this big and sometimes that size can sort of be useless. They're either lumbering and they can't really do anything with it. But the power is very real. Banks is my number two. I do think that power shows up, you know, not just in delivering blows to too often to
alignment. But there's plays where he does kind of stand up lumbering a little bit and he's not really explosive off the ball. But then like alignment, like it'll be just down blocking. And they don't even budge. I'm like, dude, if he can't get moved and he's like, it almost looks like he's not trying. That's scary to me. If it's that hard to really knock him off of his spot and get leverage in the run game with him across Romeo. So I really like him a lot. He's such a physical specimen. And I think the power is really, really dangerous and scary. I think that Banks is powerful in the sense that he's got very heavy hands. I think he's the best in the class in terms of hand strength. And I don't know if it's really that close. If I'm being honest, it's pretty special. It doesn't even look like he's trying that hard. Sometimes when he throws guys, it's pretty spectacular. I don't think his anchor is that crazy. I think that he
it does play high. And it does mean that he's not somebody who's always going to hold the point of attack necessarily like that. He's somebody who I like being aggressive more than I like just like sitting back and trying to hold the line. If you know what I mean. And that's fine. That's a style of of player that I think can be very successful. But when you hear this guy is like massive and 330 pounds, I almost feel like you think like, oh, he's he's both a total space cedar and it's like he I mean, he is in some ways. Do you know what I mean? But he's I don't I don't view him as somebody who is just like a straight up go in there, hold it. And he's not a gap type. Yeah, he's not like a it's weird. Like he should be a great nose tackle. But yeah, he's not like he's not like, he's not like Quinn and Williams. He's kind of the height makes it really tough. Yeah, I really like to not that you can't be successful with the height because I totally agree about that. And you know how I feel about Kalei's Campbell. But that's like a
different type of player. But it's just that it does affect your leverage. Absolutely. It's really, really tough to get low at his size and at his weight. Now I also think that he moves very well. So I think the archetype for him to be successful exists. But he's also a little bit older. He's also got a really, really scary injury. That's the main thing. The foot on somebody that big. I said it in the mock draft episode. I think and I still stand by it. It makes me nervous, man. That someone's going to have lower body injuries at that weight. They can take guys out who are smaller than that. And he missed. He missed a lot of time. And his overall college production and spite of being this like, you know, great physical specimen was really not that spectacular. He was pretty good in 2024 though. So how much are you weighing production for defensive linemen? You always like to see it. I think you always like to see things like pressure rate and
and tackles for loss. I think are always big ones. Banks in 2024 did have a really high pressure rate, 10 10.9%. That's higher than woods in 2024 and way higher than him in 2025. Higher than Kate and McDonald, who was just at 4% last year. Yeah, McDonald is not a past pressure. He's not a past pressure higher than Lee Hunter in 2025, who is at 6.8%. That 10.9% mark for Kayla Banks is the production that I I like to see. I don't know how many careers. Let's how many careers like like six and a half. That's not totally concerning. I mean, Christian Miller, I like and we'll maybe talk about him at some point. And he had like 19 pressures. Maybe ever. I think he yeah, I think he maybe had one sack his whole one sack his whole career. But he's he's a run stuffer, you know, like there was a guy in here who had won his whole career. Yeah. Well, DJ Reader is one of my favorite players ever ever at the defensive tackle position and how many sacks did he have at the NFL
level yet? He's got 12 and a half. You don't need to you don't need to be creating big-time sack production. But honestly, I do think that part of what would make like Banks is a guy that I I think his high end outcome is bringing you something serious. And for sure. Yes, where's a lot of these guys are not and like Miller, I just view as a totally different type of player. Yes, exactly. He's a reading react nose tackle. He's not like he's there's no way that he's going to get to sex like this actually like impossible for him to do. But Banks is extremely different. Yeah. But I really want to stress I don't want to be too low on banks like his upside is crazy. And when you watch him, there's a lot of plays where he throws guys in where you're like, I wonder if in five years someone's like before you watch this year's defensive tackles go and look back on, you know, the guys who are good in the league now. That's what it looks like. You see some reps out of Caleb Banks where it's like that's kind of what it looks like that's what an NFL player at the, you know, at the college level looks like just right on a
completely different level physically. And he's a pretty good mover again first. I don't think he's like, you know, the same as some of these smaller dudes, of course, but he's a pretty well-rounded athlete. Yeah, his first step, I mean, just comparing it to some of the guys across the line at Florida, it's, it's really good. I mean, he'll be a, a line to edge. And then I think it's like an outside linebacker next to him and like, man, he gets his front foot down before that other guy even takes off sometimes. And it's like, man, it's just a big man moving fast. He's got a great handle on things immediately when, when you've got a block somebody who gets a good jump on the snap. And is that big and can cross your face. He can go through you. He can go around you. Again, all three planes are open to him. So I kind of am in the, in the camp of like, it's a little bit different. It's a little bit special. It's a little bit like this is what it looks like. This is, you know, not something that I'm used to seeing from, from the other, from the other defensive
tackles. But I'm definitely with you that it's a lot of force in the ground every play for his foot, which has been broken. What three times now? I mean, he just, oh my gosh, you just run in one. I'll be honest. Well, no, he just, he just broke his foot. He just broke his foot running the senior. Yeah, like running his prote drills. He, he messed up his foot. So that all I did. Yeah. Yeah. No, it's, it's chronic. It's actually a chronic foot injury. So that, in that case, in that case, dude, if he has chronic foot issues, it's one thing if it's one time, but if he has chronic foot issues, that's really tough. Yeah. Yeah. No, I feel you 100 percent, but just based on how high would you take him knowing that? I think I would maybe take him if I was the Broncos, um, at the end of the first round, that, that to me is, that's where I mocked him and I think I still might do that. Just because they've got kind of a lot of other
players on that defensive line and a lot of blitzes and a lot of ways to generate pressure that maybe they can take the luxury pick that is banks who can kind of fill into that Jonathan Franklin Myers role and you don't have to play him all the time and you don't have to bake. You can maybe limit him and see what you have. He, I have a first round grade on him just on the tape, which is, yeah, I don't hand out a whole lot of those. So getting him in like 30 and 20 or 29 or something like that, I would, I would seriously consider it and I would definitely take him in the second round for sure, but I could, I could see him falling and prioritizing somebody like what I rather have him or woods without that kind of chronic issue. I mean, if he, he broke, yeah, he broke his foot, man. Yeah, he broke his foot. I'm buying personally, personally, again, I'm biased because I broke my foot. He'd be off my board. I don't think it's that crazy to say a guy that weighs 330 pounds. Even if he carries
a well, if he's out there breaking his foot all the time, maybe he's curry with the ankle, bro. Maybe, maybe, but I don't know. I do want to, I do want to talk about Peter Woods though. Yeah, I think it's good to be like, would you rather have woods with with the health or would you rather have, you know, banks with the foot issues? Peter Woods is such an interesting prospect to me. I haven't, I haven't been three, but it's only because I like honestly don't know how I feel about him. So like last year, he's listed at 315, but he's like reported to be as heavy as 330 at times. And then at the combine, he weighs in at 229. And I'm seeing reports that like 29, yeah, not 229, 298. I'm sorry. 298, 229 would be insane. He weighs in at 298. And there's reports that his goal for the 2025 season was to get down to closer to 300. And in week one, he looks about 300.
He looks about the 298 that he weighs against LSU. But by week 10 against Louisville, he looks 315 again, maybe 320. And so I'm trying to figure out which version of Peter Woods do I like more because when he is 298 300, he really moves quickly like the speed and the lateral quickness and the flexibility. Yeah, it's insane. But when he's 330 or 320, he's got way more power in his hands. And I'm trying to figure out he's an interesting projection. I completely agree. I think on some level, he's got to pick a direction. I feel pretty good about him because he's an athlete who I'm really bought into in terms of like a lot of different aspects of his game. Like you brought up, there's there's times where it's like he's powerful. He can really torque guys uses hands well and throw him off. But he's also like pretty quick and fluid. A lot of these dudes, it's just
tough for him to turn like that. You can see why Woods was a five star. But unfortunately, as a five star defensive line, minute Clemson, of course, he had a down year right before the draft. It just wasn't quite the season that you expected. I think that at his current weight at 298, especially with how he played last year, it's going to be tough for him to be anything other than a more attacking defensive tackle. Like he's not somebody who I would expect to hold up just like I'm saying with banks. But for different reasons, I just think at that weight, it's difficult non-paper like there were times where he could get pushed off of his spot. And I would also like him to have more of a plan as a pass rusher. But I think his production was still pretty good overall. I still think he's probably the best athlete in sort of this standard defensive tackle size maybe of this class. But he didn't really test well, which kind of scares me a little bit
because I'm I'm leaning a lot on his athleticism. But I think I think the fact that he produced early in college, he's young, he shows ability in a lot of different aspects of playing the sport. But maybe needs to pick a direction as what type of player he wants to be. Put some as my one because I think a team will have time to develop him. I guess that's fair. You do have the opportunity to kind of figure out and and you can sort of figure out with him what he should be. I personally like him heavier. So I think I think that's I think that's fair. I mean the to me part of the reason why he's at one is because as much as I love McDonald and that's my guy. Yeah. Like the projection for him is just I don't think anything on the past rushing front. Obviously he's this great run defender. But like he just pretty much wasn't a serious past rush. I was you and I don't know if he's the type of guy who's ever going to become that. So those those two dudes are I think
are just different types of guys and then with banks and the foot stuff. I had Lee Hunter up there too. But I think woods is again, a little bit of a projection for me, but he is still my defensive tackle one. It's close though. I do have some concern with sometimes I feel like as a past rush or he really wants to utilize that long arm and he's got pretty short arms. Right. I completely agree. One of my concerns about him is like, okay, he definitely could have better plans going again. And he can be violent and he's got that within him. But there's a lot of times where he just allows guys to get too much in his frame and wants to use the link that doesn't really have the arms to get away with that. Yeah. And that's why I like him heavier because you can lean into those to those more and you can sort of do the, you know, the Khalil Mac thing you bent press a guy with one arm. Yeah. That's more accessible to him. That long arm becomes more accessible even without the length because now you have the weight to knock people off balance
and get inside that way. So I, I have met three just because I think there's a lot of confusion on what he wants to be right now. But I mean, the talent is certainly there. Yeah. Confusion's a good word for it. I think when I, when I watch Peter Woods, I just don't, I'm with you, with you blade. And I just don't know what to think. I mean, it's pressure eight in 2024, 10.2% right up there with Kayla Banks in 2024 with a pretty elite number. This year, it's 3.7% that's below Kaden McDonald. That's below where Tyler Williams was in 2024 for Ohio State. Like not in the backfield much at all in 2025 compared to 2024. And it's just weird. It's just weird. It's like, why are you a great passenger? And he doesn't have very many career sacks, but clearly he's got a first step and clearly he can deconstruct blocks, right? So
it's like, is it going to work out? He's got speed. He's got some power. He's got, he can throw guys around. Like, why is it so low? He had, he had a down year for sure, but he was also somebody who played very early for Clemson and has had a big year before. I don't disagree. And I think, I think where I have him graded out was is lower than where he would have been if he had, you know, played like he did last year for sure. I mean, he probably, he probably would have snuck into the top 10, honestly, if if he had played like last year, it would feel like a little bit less of a projection than it does now. But I don't think, I don't think it's so far off. And I do think there's a lot of good stuff on tape where it's not like a total mystery bag as to what you're going to get. And it's all tools with, with no real performance behind it, which makes me feel a little bit better. I guess my concern would be there's not enough tools like that. That would be more my concern with banks, more than technique is that there's not enough tools like. To me, he almost feels like I, I think I agree with you,
blatant what I would like. I'm almost a little bit heavier because it feels like his best stuff is absorbing doubles and being flexible and kind of bending to withstand them. And then like popping back up like nothing happened and making a tackle like he's he's very flexible in that way. They played him in nose way more in 2025 compared to 2024. And I think like, I can't see it anywhere in 24 dude. Like he was lined up as a wide nine sometimes. Yeah, fair. Like what are we talking about? But I can see the vision with him at a nose, although clearly it's sapped all of his his pressure rate. But I guess I guess that's just my thing is like does he have the power to really knock you back? And then does he have the like weakness to get around you or find an edge on you without like push pulling you if that makes sense. Like I feel like he's he's constantly getting his hands in the right place. And then he
kind of can lock out and shed. That's how he kind of finds an edge. But like can he set you up one way and then arm over and get to the other side or can he can he get around you and bend like can he find some sort of angle to rush with like when I watch Kayla banks like versus Florida state he can find an edge at will just because he's always kind of rocking back and forth. He's got such length like he's just these guards are just kind of crumpling trying to contain him. And when I watch Woods against the same team, I just felt like I wasn't really seeing him control those same blockers in quite the same way as banks. So I think he's can rush through a cylinder and kind of bull you a little bit. I think he can hold up versus doubles and kind of some unique ways. But I just wasn't sure if I love the traits all the way. I don't know. I can see that he's a little bit more like a very good athlete who's well-rounded rather than having one thing where you're like wow he's a superstar at necessarily like with the Caleb banks
obviously. Yeah. And maybe that makes maybe that makes betting on the tools a little bit tougher. Yeah. But then you watch the LSU game and he's like I mean he's just throwing guys around in the LSU game. The LSU game is from this season. It's not necessarily like he doesn't have like big time moments of course. No, no he really does. It's just all like hand placement peak shed. That's like the big time moment with Peter Woods is that exact sequence. Hand placement peak shed. Hand placement peak shed. It's not it's not quite the past rushing moments in the low pressure rate this year. I just didn't quite see it this the same way. But I've got a mid let's see what I might have a mid number two anyway. I just because well the other thing is that I don't necessarily love this class on the hold. There's nobody where you're like this guy is an obvious
for sure game changer. I think Woods has a lot of upside and I don't think he's crazy far off but he's a little bit of projection. I think McDonald will probably be a very good player but will probably not do much as a past rusher. Caleb like I said is he's got crazy upside but he's a really big injury risk. Do we want to talk about McDonald a little bit? McDonald's one dude. You're number one bleeding. I think that's totally reasonable. Dude I mean you want to talk about athletic. I think he's the best athlete in this class like as far as top to bottom like he's got the power. He's got the quickness. I mean I don't think I've I don't know how many guys you see year to year that are this big and this flexible not just in terms of like can they absorb contact and rebound like you mentioned Theo but also like he can he can bull rush. He can like rip and come across your face like there's so much athleticism at at at at play here that he's such
a a playmaker at a nose tackle that I feel like you don't really get to see a whole lot of the one like downside I have to him is like you know when I watch telek Williams that dude was so good at taking on double teams it was unbelievable and McDonald doesn't quite have that right he does not really have a plan for it and so I'd like to really see him find a way to to deal with to deal with these doubles and combo because it seemed like it should be impossible it doesn't seem like he's like that's something that you could see grow but he is an excellent run defender but he's not really somebody who takes on doubles quite like that there were a couple of times in the Texas game for sure where he gets moved off his spot yeah way more than you would have liked I think the thing about McDonald is like he totally I completely agree about the power but he's also got very good feel and instincts he's young he hasn't played that much college football but his ability to like go and react and make a play is phenomenal and he's a really good play finisher as well he's got
I think the lowest mistack right among anybody I looked at which my favorite is an issue for that's an issue for a lot of these guys like banks I know had a super high number I think I think woods numbers pretty and that's where like the flexibility I think is really what that because a lot of times you have to make these tackles sort of outside of your frame you have to be able to lunge and reach and a lot of these guys just can't do that because they're going one way running backs going the other way and you have to really reach across you know not just your own frame but also like there's an offensive lineman trying to drive you out of the play and you have to reach across them to make this tackle and I think McDonald's the best at that yeah he has some Odell Beckham esque tackles like diving backwards reaching behind him like latched on and and drag him down like he he definitely has moments like that he needs to learn how to play defensive tackled though that's my number one concern with him is like I feel like he's right now a big bundle of tools for sure
yeah but he wants to be a nuance is like lacking in in a major way like he shoots his gun and he's super electric off the line of scrimmage like those first couple steps you're like this is a big man move in like great get off yeah but you've got to harness that initial motion and turn it into some sort of plan you need to teach him counters you need to teach him anything but just like penetrate penetrate penetrate because I I feel like that's his mentality all the time is like I'm big I've got a good first step and we're just knifing through this into the back field I don't see past rush moves with him really I don't see a lot of peripheral vision for for double teams now he holds up anyway and he can kind of take off at any time like even if you pushed him like three yards all the sudden he starts running and just he's gone all of a sudden from you but like that initial technique wasn't really there so I don't know I feel like he would find some issues
going into the league right now because guys couldn't you know just get their hands on him and anchor down and and and he'd be like wow this is NFL talent and I don't really have an answer for that but if man if you could teach him if you could teach him a little bit of skill and nuance he could be really really really really good but I just thought all of that was was totally lacking with him I see I'm trying to be a little bit more accepting of these guys growing into the player that they're going to be especially these dudes like especially Mc Donald who is not only young but again has not played very much at all this was his first year as a starter right right and he also produced incredibly well yeah it a bunch of TFLs he blew up a bunch of plays with the first like he's just nice through and hits you I mean first up is crazy so I just look at a guy who's a really good athlete who I think is going to have a very projectable role as a great run defender
even if the pass rush stuff never comes along and honestly like the level of game changing run defense that he could get to in a couple of years has the ability to be pretty crazy and pretty impactful so I'm high on him where do you oh he's your two yeah so then you have banks it you have banks it for that's right mm-hmm big thanks to our sponsor better help for partnering with us for this important conversation about mental health this Steve Smith here former NFL Y receiver and host of the 89 show on YouTube so having a counselor and work with better health that gives you an opportunity to really start to unpack but people don't understand when you unpack things you also open up a box you're not always sure what's inside so I think that's why seeing a professional is extremely important if you need someone to open up to visit better health that's better h-e-l-p dot com slash 89 to get started a capella university learning the right skills could
make a difference that's why our business programs teach you relevant skills you can take from the course room to the workplace a different future is closer than you think with capella university learn more at capella dot edu so who's your three lehunter interesting do you have lehunter not in my top five I think he's pretty he's pretty nimble for his size no I mean I have my own concerns with him like he's built a little thin through the legs I feel like and sometimes he can get moved because of that he's also a you know a little tall on top of that maybe a little high waisted so there's a combo and he's going to be 24 by week one so he's he's one of these older guys but I thought that he was somebody who was really big really aggressive pretty nimble for his size who had a lot of production and a very aggressive Texas tech front yeah yeah I my concern so I
I do love how he sustains and is able to kind of win latent reps I feel like that yeah that a lot of these guys don't have like they have a great initial pop but then as soon as a got as soon as a tackle or a guard they would kind of reset their anger and reset their base they kind of lose at that point um lehunter is kind of able to bypass that a little bit I do feel like the the size does impact I mean I feel like he's very lumbering and I don't love the like let I don't agree with that at all I just I don't know I feel like the lateral quickness and and the the like I don't think he has nearly as good of a pop as any of the the three guys we've talked about like just from a a pure talent perspective of of power at the point of attack so like he can sustain it better than than some of them but I think I like like well I just don't agree that he's lumbering Kristen Miller and Dominique Orange like I think I like those guys a little bit more I don't think
he's lumbering I think he can cut corners with his with his play sometimes like I saw him I saw the ball gets snapped and he's not down in his stance yet or the ball gets snapped and he's down on one knee and it kind of takes him a while to to get up or to get started and I think I mean the front for it takes us tech like it's just crazy to watch because I mean you got the edges who are just screaming off the edge every single time like to run around people and then you've got Lee Hunter who's who's just getting up field right like it I don't know if it had the level of nuance and block reading and and all those kinds of things is like your typical NFL team and I feel like Hunter sometimes could be a bit lazy in that way of just like okay you you got to find a bit of a better answer here instead of just like powering straight ahead so I I thought I thought that there was maybe some
lack of attention to detail with him but I think he moves very well for his size like the side to side quickness with him I mean he led the lead the he led all the guys that were talking about I think in TFL's with 11 last year I think according to sports info solutions but they they might have different numbers than other people because they did not say that would said 14 stacks but whatever uh but yeah he did have 11 tackles for last last year which is just just ridiculous and guess who is second of of everybody on Ohio State and Florida and Clemson and Texas Tech AJ Holmes Jr a defensive tackle for Texas Tech so like again just guys are just flying up the field in in this scheme and and like wrecking everything because height and and Bailey are also the leaders in production yeah it's a very impressive defensive front they had there at Texas Tech so yeah he's a weird projection I just he also tested very poorly his vert was like sub 25 inches or something it was like 21 and a half awful uh which is
not great you know it combine is combine but still this is like I want to see more explosiveness and that's kind of what I was hoping for I was like oh you know it's not showing up as much on tape as I would like but maybe there is some stuff in the combine I'm just not seeing it right now and then it didn't show up at the combine and yeah I do worry that he might be a little bit less than the sum of his parts because you see this huge guy with all this production and all these players where he blows somebody up in a huge way but then you really sit down and you watch him and you're like well is he really a great gobbling doubles knows tackle like not particularly you know he's somebody yeah again thin lower body plays a bit high not a great combination sometimes can can get pushed down the field and then like oh when it comes to tracking down a mobile quarterback when it comes to you know chasing somebody as you really going to be able to be a great pass
pressure beat people sack people like is he really going to be what he was in college in the NFL I don't know I don't know he he again was a bit of a tough projection for me I would I would maybe prefer somebody that I just know in Christian Miller or someone like that who Dominique Orange like I just know that those guys can hold versus doubles and be great run defenders and play in the league for 10 years that way like and maybe you can do that maybe you can really do that I don't know maybe there's more upside there too but I just wasn't sure that he was a sure fire in a felt projection via where do you where do you have hunter and where do you have McDonald I might have them in like four and five in what order you got McDonald at four wait wait just tell me your top five I think I like I don't know I'm gonna I'm gonna get
through this episode and then I'm gonna rank them yeah all right that's fair enough I'm gonna get through this and then I'm gonna rank them because I have got my thoughts and I I still am gonna work through Christian Miller I want to walk work through Christian Miller and I want to work through Grayson Halton from Oklahoma those are the other two that I really like and I've all done is Halton I don't have in my five but I do think is is pretty cool like he's a really cool like stunter type of he could be as high as two for me he could he might be my number he's a lot of like banks I feel like where you get this like really all active nimble like flowing big guy um who can just blow up your play and is a kind of a nightmare with just his long levers and the get off and the lateral agility and yeah I'm I'm a huge Grayson Halton fan he's kind of one of my guys well let's talk about Miller actually I mean if sure there's a guy that you like Matt where do you have Miller I haven't five I also have him at five
all right let's let's get into I mean to me the first thing that stood out was how much power he has in his upper body um I mean the one armed strength is is incredible I mean and I feel like he's he's one of the guys that has really big hands in this class and so it's just like a lot of surface area that he can get on someone's chest um he's a really natural run defender because of that pop he um he can knock off a deployment off balance and then just get his head around find the running back who's like obviously coming in that direction um I do think he needs work as a pass rusher um struggles a guy that you know we talked I talked about already a guy is that struggle to sustain after guys after off a deployment reset their base and reset their anchor he's one of those guys that I feel like that really struggles with that um and he doesn't really have a counter to his bull rush like that's kind of the only thing he does um but as a run defender I think he's he's really really good yeah the the tools as a pass rusher they just aren't really
there I think um he's really smart he's super smart so I think like I think there's a world where he could become a good pass rusher because of because of the intelligence and because he has so much power in that initial problem like there has to be something there long term dude I think that these somebody who might collect some pressures and some sacks just over the course of early down a lot of these guys they're like role players and pass rush more than they are sure yeah like with Miller I just think he can see the field on first and second down so easily because he diagnoses run schemes like that like just instantly knows when knows when to step laterally knows when to get in front of somebody and protect his defensive um his his linebacker behind him knows when it's a down block and he's got a prep for a polar knows when it's play action and he should be playing the boot knows when it's option and he should be surfing like he's just always he's always doing something smart he's and that's what I love about him is he's playing the block the way
it should be played the way that the coaches would teach you to do it and that's just something I don't see all the time with so many of these other guys like Lee Hunter I don't think he plays that smart all the time I don't think that I think he's a big mismatch and can throw you around and can get up field but I don't think he he plays as the game is soundly as Christian Miller does kind of this kind of the same thing with McDonald definitely definitely the same thing with McDonald's who's just like shooting up the field all the time almost getting off the ball like a sprinter right like his his arms like pumping side to side instead of firing out with hands and hips and engaging like but you know are those things that can get you seven and a half stacks third down you over the course of a season is a defensive tackle and that might just be more worth it is that something that gets you a pro bowl is that something that helps your your past rush become what the Eagles were when you didn't have to blitz and you could still get home and the Seahawks were when you didn't have to blitz and you could still get home like
and Christian Miller is just like you know solid guy zero sacks like two year 15 million dollar extension type guy at the at the second contract like sure yeah he's probably that but would you rather would you rather swing on on a little bit more upside because he doesn't have the first step those guys do and he he doesn't have the um I don't think he quite has the power that those guys do but he's got length and he's got pad level and he can drive his legs a little bit so I don't think he's a pure nothing um especially like with all the play action teams run like if he kind of knows it's play action he might get five bullshit sacks that aren't really him beating anybody except for just knowing the scheme um so I was a Christian Miller fan but I didn't really see like insane upside yeah there's a couple of guys in this class that uh we're gonna talk about that have really big hand banks is one of them at almost 11 inches uh orange sounds like we'll talk about in a little bit has like 10 and a quarter inch and then uh Miller has has 10 in chance so um and and McDonald
has uh just under 10 in chance so yeah yeah I was I was really impressed I I felt like his arms looked longer on tape and they actually measured at the combine for sure and I thought that he did a really good job getting low I think that combination of those two things with what you said about the intelligence like can you intelligence splash your weight of 12 sacks maybe not but can you be a really good reactionary defensive tackle who can who can hold up a can stubble teams and two gap I think very much so yeah can you can you intelligence your weight of 12 years like maybe can you intelligence your weight of 12 sacks and no but I'd rather you might rather take the 12 years well I don't know it depends on if you're the player if you're this if you play for 12 years you could have like a double digit sacks season no you don't think so you don't think there's any toe DJ readers career high is like three like no you're right there's there's not that many double digit sacks defensive tackles like ever I wonder here's a question for you what do you think the
least number of pressures a guy has gotten double digit sacks off of his on pf's or I remember I remember Julius peppers like as an ancient came back to Carolina he had like 12 or something but it was on like 30 something pressures and then pf f or something about like how that probably wasn't going to happen again and I'm like there's such haters bro what the Carolina ever done then I have to get like five the next year or something shadow this was this was his second stint yeah I mean he was like 37 yeah 30 exactly this again next year um I know that did Kyler Fackerel have a 10 sacks season dude I don't know dude you don't know but yes he did in 2018 Kyler Kyler Fackerel had 10 and a half sacks have you have y'all fellas heard of Kyler Fackerel do you remember Kyler Fackerel I'm not recalling Fackerel on his nickname on a pro football reference is the freak
the freak Kyler Fackerel get the freak Fackerel the freak man the freak role so Kyler Fackerel was like one of those 240 pound bendy guys that the Packers had and he had the most fraudulent ten and a half sacks season I think that you'll ever see let's see how many how many pressures that was in 2018 we are at let's see here okay he was fourth on the team with 21 pressures according to you I don't know if anyone's going to beat 10 on 21 man I mean the last year the pf high score mind you pf f does it do half sacks and this is counting playoffs was 36 and I think that was by Cam Jordan he had as many he had as many pressures on the Packers that year is Reggie Gilbert who to be completely honest with you I don't even remember and Reggie Gilbert had two and a half sacks
Mike Daniels had seven more pressures than Fackerel and had two sacks they're they're leading pressure getter was Kenny Clark with 31 pressures and he had six sacks Fackerel at 10 and a half on 21 bad that one's going to be hard to beat that's a good poll by me I'm petting myself on the back that is because I don't know if I let this go back that far you probably got it honestly 2006 right I don't know how far back they're not maybe 2006 that might be it I don't think it did it on last right 20 21 is I mean chiral Fackerel 10 and a half sacks season like only a Packers fan would even know that that happened um so yeah I probably not seeing anybody who's really even coming back close to him as I'm just scrolling through the years and that's very slowly loading right um I got I got a I got a stat for you about a defensive tackle sure sure Dante Corleone I was cute as you would come up defensive
tackle at the combine Dante Corleone heaviest defensive tackle he looks like that too like that does not surprise me to hear like he's fat as fuck he may have weighed even more at the Shrine Bolt but he did not weigh it's very possible he was heavier Dante is obviously a well-loved player out of Cincinnati he's been with the team a long time he's been bawling forever frankly I just cannot be as high on him as I was a couple of years ago and that's not sometimes it's it's the sobering reality of watching the guy all 22 versus broadcast um here I I don't think that he's been as productive the last couple of years as he was uh he's had some serious health issues blood clots and his lungs and then an ankle problem that also then went and flared up at the Shrine Bolt again he was in a boot uh one of the days there look he's he's really stout he's
really tough to move at his best obviously he plays natural leverage you know um and he carries three hundred and forty pounds at six foot flat almost about as well as you possibly could right but I wonder if he was playing a little lighter back in 2022 where it felt like he also had some past rest juice and and he was a lot more mobile and I think able to like not only like take on double teams that really go make a play as well um I do think that like Cincinnati as a team has changed a lot and it does not put him in a good position I mean the coaching staff is completely changed and well like maybe I thought in the past he had a little bit more of like pocket pushing presence as a past rusher I noticed on a lot of these types like first off Cincinnati actually led the the country uh all time and and rushing with three rate as far as I'm concerned because oh my god they never like to send anybody and then a lot of times
it would be like we're gonna rush three and we're gonna send like Dante Corleon on a stunt or something like that it's like okay yeah yeah well that's not ever gonna get home in a million years you know what I'm saying like uh so I I just don't think it was really a great position for him for a ton of reasons and I think if maybe he could be a little lighter he still has it within him to have this great playstrike he's got these huge big arms he can really get off of guys and go make a play but when I think about the best play of Dante Corleon dude I think about like honestly I think about 2022 him freeing up space for Ivan pace I don't think about 2025 and the thing it's one thing if it's Peter Woods and it's 2024 2022 is a long time ago and that wasn't you know that wasn't necessarily against the toughest competition either so I don't know I'm a little bit lower on him I don't know if he's got a ton of upside as a past Russia I think he's got some injury issues and when we're talking about somebody who's gonna be this I I guess hopefully
like react sort of you know to gapping nose tack or whatever there's a lot of other guys I think fill that role and have a little bit maybe more length to him or maybe a little bit younger because now he's 24 because he's been in college for a long time there's just have a couple of more things to offer at his best he was phenomenal though and maybe his health stuff gets better and he returns to that but he just hasn't been that in a long time unfortunately yeah you can maybe see him is like a tear tart or a or a puna forward type just like yeah team that plays too high shell pays him a minuscule amount of money because he's a scheme fit for just a few teams and he ends up being a great blue guy but yeah I'm just not sure if at his size that's even a guarantee and I'm not sure where you like take that in the draft when there may be some free agents out there or I don't know like a guy like Jamari called well right for the Oregon ducks one of the best of
that kind of archetype that I've seen it was it was him just freakishly long arms like heavy he was only he was 61340 right like kind of that shorter stumpy can get on one knee and pop up type guy but you know even he went in the third the third around 86 overall and had one sack and you know he's he's he's good he's good but like it really depends on the scheme and it depends on a lot of things he was he was also a 25 year old rookie he was old so yeah according I was going to be 24 week one so it's just a lot of it can be worth it for a certain team to take that I think but I think I think he's I don't want to say he's an undraftable prospect or anything like I really don't want to undersell his power and his base sure and I don't want to overreact maybe to a season where if he was playing with kind of a bum ankle that can really screw
you up even if you're in the game but like man I thought I was I thought he I thought after 2022 he was going to come out in one year and be a first round pick type of yeah that's what I thought and and it's it's gone a long way from there and with the blood clots again it's not even just the lower body it's like you don't really even know about that yeah he's strong as I he's got huge arms and he's the godfather he's got a sickening name the godfather is goaded bro for corleon jimari called well's instagram handle is big lazy baby that's okay and he's still good so you know you can even be bigly lazy baby and they get impacted to get orange Dominic orange big citrus that's a good one big citrus is awesome and my few moves up my board for being big citrus and also like a nose that I also really like like if if you want to take Dominic orange to be jimari called well or to be maybe a sturdier
version of of corleon or to be puna or whoever it is in this archetype that you want to name I think he can be that like I think that he's somebody that really looks like an accordion when he's playing you see that kind of bend and disconnect between his lower and upper half that lets him find some sort of position to take on the double and actually hold up and and squirt through on the other side and continue pursuing laterally he's somebody that can kind of find a hip roll to kind of get some more power into his rush and with a little bit of lateral agility as well I I thought that he was somebody who yeah may not put up crazy numbers but like I liked his tape as a nose tackle I thought that you could really have a long career career there he was he was somebody that I was fairly high on or thought he was like properly valued at least on like the mockery simulators like maybe not a first round pick or anything but like yeah if you want a nose tackle here's a big citrus is like the guy that
you want big citrus is a good nose tackle like you want your nose tackle to be big citrus yeah I like orange I mean you'd love one to be Jordan Davis or or Dexter Lawrence but like big citrus is okay too well there's there's only so many of those guys and I'm trying to think when is like the last time that a true sleeper defensive tackle turned into that type of guy I was there someone I'm not thinking of right now because I'm thinking littered Williams like was very highly touted by a perfect very highly touted Aaron Donald like 11th overall you're thinking about like a a pro bowl defensive tackle who is a sleeper who came out of nowhere or something yeah I feel like Dexter Lawrence maybe I mean he was a first round pick but for him to be the level of past rusher that he is that kind of was surprising I don't know I guess I'd have to go and look back at like all pro defensive tackles I'm thinking about I'm
thinking of specifically past rusher like maybe I'm I mean Milton Williams was kind of a darling and he sure he was he is obviously now a very good a very good player that's not a bad pick yeah might be Williams I mean the defensive tackle pro bowlers in the in the NFC were Leonard Williams Jalen Carter and Quinn and Williams three of the most highly regarded yeah prospects and who got who got Derek Brown got left out how highly was he regarded yeah extremely highly right Chris Jones was the second round pick but he fell for I think some reasons outside of talent same thing with Jeffrey Sins second round does not even that late you know what I'm saying but yeah Jeffrey Simmons was a pro bowler again he fell because he was involved in like a big fight or as an assault or something like that all right I don't think he what I don't
think he will every Simmons was on the front pick I thought he was I thought he fell because he got in a fight and then he said he was like defending his sister or something Jeffrey said 19th overall oh he still went 19th overall and that still was I think a fall yeah and then there's and then there's Zach Allen Zach Allen was a third-rounder yeah okay and Kobe Turner was a third-rounder yes Kobe Turner Jonathan Cooper now the defensive tackle Cooper now I guess that's yeah I got I got two fights at 240 pound yeah never mind never mind never mind I did find some other people who have had some high sack low pressure seasons though if you are interested sure yeah let's hear them 2019 Jordan Phillips 10 on 29 2014 Elvis Doomerville had 22 on 64 Jared out of
sacks 22 sacks according to PFF so like half sacks so that's the only caveat is this is PFF I honestly like not counting half sacks but I think I think 22 and 64 maybe that's a poor ratio but also it is a lot of pressure it is a lot it's a lot there at Allen in 2011 had 24 on 66 Carlos Dunlap in 2010 had 10 on 22 and then DeMarcus Ware in 2008 I think it's the best one at 20 on 53 that is pretty crazy yeah so so but it's PF what I'm looking at what I'm looking at seasons there so your ratios are getting thrown off by these 20 well the issue is that PFF is also including playoffs and then counting every half sack as a full sack to troll to show we have a different sack number somewhere thank you that yeah and I'm still not here in anything beating Kyler Fackerel I think I think 10 it's great to might what was what was Fackerel's 11 and 20
is 21 I mean I was looking at sports infosolutions and he was at 21 pressures in 10 and a half sacks oh yeah that wins never mind I didn't I and two pressures for each sack yeah they don't even yeah you're looking at you're not even looking at PFF so that's like a four that's like a 39 pressure 26 season yeah yeah that's pretty that was in 2018 that was 2018 fuck our defense was ass bro hey man that was like off the ball clay era just kill me bro but anyway back to the Winton Rollins Dominique Orange man Randall where do you guys have I guess Theo you're the only one that doesn't have your full board filled out because Matt you have woods McDonald Hunter Banks Miller right yeah yeah I think I think I'll stick with that I I need
to do a little thinking about how to wait the projections of these guys versus what they are right now yeah I mean it's really I feel fucking hard to rank five people because the schemes are different but right right and like defensive tackle especially like nobody wants to hear that it's so there's such a wide range of of what these guys are I you know I got to say that one time and it's with the tight ends I don't get to say that every single episode the receivers there some of them are in the slot some of them are outside all right it matters like to some extent it matters like if if we're judging you based on one thing if if if a defensive lineman is playing most of his snaps at like a seven I like we might have to judge him as an ad rusher I might yeah I might move Hunter down a little bit from Miller I might go like Hunter at five or something and then Caleb
and Miller to me I'm to me I would I would go like this I like I like Banks and Halton is kind of your big swings on like 10 sack potential though those are kind of the two mismatch penetrating just huge lengthy free flowing tall guys who are like I don't know what you're kind of looking for sure below them in kind of that tier is Darryl Jackson Jr from Florida state who is just giant very tall can generate a lot of power but is a lot more stiff doesn't really disconnect his his halves like those guys do not in my top five I'd say but in that kind of archetype of player okay then there's like woods who I don't know what the fuck he is
probably a three technique yeah and not a nose because of his size right now in his length and probably somebody that you want getting more one-on-ones where you can do his stack and shed business and and potentially get around on them then then getting the slide all the time and and getting the center presence all the time as far as three techniques go I'd put I mean there's woods and there's really not a lot other other guys so he might kind of be in a tier by himself there and then in terms of nose tackles I would tear it like Miller and Orange are kind of your solid fundamentally sound noses and then Hunter and and McDonald are kind of your noses who can also create a little bit of pressure with a good first step so maybe you like the upside there so maybe it goes banks one woods two halt and three like Hunter four McDonald five with
Orange and and with Orange and Miller is very honorable mentions who I think have right you can stick around for a long time I just I just think realistically though like I'm not going to take him off of my list but like if I was actually a front office there's no way I would draft banks now that for sure I mean maybe not in the first round no check yeah there's I guess like I don't want to say I don't want to say that he'd be like I don't know he might be off my board medically not because of who he is as a player and maybe I think that's fair maybe if you knew more about it when we're at the combine you could sit there and say like we just think the risk is more worth like mid second round pick a lot of these guys feel like dudes you would be stoked about at the top of the second you know what I mean but that's I guess it's maybe easy to be that type of guy there's probably a ton of dudes who are who are like that I don't know I think on tape neither of you
of orange in your top five that's you have orange in your top five I have orange at four man I liked orange I like orange I like orange a lot I in fact I could I could see switching milk I could see myself switching Miller in orange for like a lot of guys honestly so I'll tell you the thing that bumped orange up on my board yes the way that he handled double teams I feel like he was the only one that really was able to like have a unique approach yeah he is unique like he'll find he'll like get narrow get skinny and like slide between guys and slide between gaps like there was one time he was actively engaged with someone someone came in for for chip hell and he just kind of like torqued and turned his back to him and he like slid off his back I'm like that's creative and then I saw him like sliding down the line of scrimmage trying to take on two guys at once and he just like again turned his back in his like going sideways into this gap as they're like pushing
up against pushing up against his back and he like the running back would have been able to cut through the gap that he was getting pushed away from but because he slid into it like that he forced the running back to bounce outside more I'm like you know that's that's really smart like the way that he's kind of playing this out is is very interesting and very creative and I would like to have that on my team on top of he's got a lot of really nice strength just as a nose tackle so like I like him a lot I like I like him a lot too I really want the Packers to take Oranger Miller like to me I really want a big run stuffing nose they added hard grip and free agency and and he's more of a penetrating quick pressure stunter guy and maybe that's what they're going to do maybe they say we have we have no need for someone like Miller Orange we're just going to fold each other we're going to get off and fold and just create so much havoc that you like like who is the Vikings big fat nose tackle right under floor is they're they're really
dude that's I keep thinking about like it's Redmond and McDonald to the Vikings and that's that's something that's pretty excited to me that's the style they're going to play in this hardgrave signing let's you know that they're not going to go after someone like Miller Orange but if you're if you're looking for like a nose and you just want to someone who defends the run like I think I think those guys are would be way higher up your list like you could put them at one and two you could put them at one and two if that's what you were looking for it kind of just depend on what you're looking for yeah I think that's fair so I'm looking at the consensus right now after we've all kind of listed out our top five and it goes woods number one banks number two McDonald number three Miller number four hunter number five with honorable mentions of Orange and Holden it's probably right then so if you work in university maintenance Granger considers you

quarterback solution for Minnesota we talked about this a little bit on the patreon Theo but I think it's a fantastic move for the Vikings I mean to get a guy with his level of talent at this price point is a huge steal he's not getting trade lance money he's not getting kidney picket money you know what I'm saying quarterbacks are so expensive Malik Willis through like 70 passes and got a 60 million dollar contract and Kyler is a guy who has his limitations like throwing over the middle of the field is shorter and you know all that but it's also a really good playmaker and he's led good offenses before I think he lands in a really really solid situation in Minnesota and for a team that's trying to like win right now man it's it feels like a gift to be able to find somebody who isn't necessarily perfect but gives him a real fighting chance when I think a lot of their other options would have been like draft a guy which would have been you know tough considering this class or like Gino Smith like we're going to take a vet and and hope that's
enough and we're just going to be rely on everybody else to make plays I guess yeah I think Kyler is is really a home run for them um I think his his shortcomings really are overharped on it's not that they're not there like I get it it's just that they're so obvious at this point and just with the size and the stature like anyone can kind of see what they are but that doesn't mean they're like any more crippling than the issues that like a I don't know Donald has or or crippling then the issues McCarthy has well yeah and and the thing about Kyler that I think it's underrated is there's just so much little little things that he does to try to comp and say I feel like like the pump fakes the touch speeding up and slowing down his release based on what the receiver
is doing putting things in on the back shoulder like throwing away from leverage like I'd go through the last I went through the last two games at Kyler played in Arizona right you'd think they'd be like some of his rougher performances and I thought they played really really well versus Tennessee and Seattle but like the turnovers in that game are like the center snaps that while he's changing the play Marv stops running over the middle of the field Marv drops a slant DeMarcato drops it before going over the goal line the Titan score a touchdown where the Cardinals intercepted it and fumble it and gets kicked around for 10 seconds before a score like these are the reasons that Kyler ended his career oh and two with them instead of two and oh four and one record or something like it was very very close to being a very successful start of the season like for Arizona they they drove down they were two in one they had he had a drive with like four minutes
left in the game versus Seattle he brought him down the field the score it was 20 to 20 just a couple seconds left to go in the game defense gives up a score versus Tennessee like so many flukes that caused them to lose that one like man just a couple just a couple bounces a different direction like maybe it could have been a four in one Cardinals team or something like that instead of you know a the soundly average like two and three one I don't know I just I think with with Minnesota McCarthy has nothing like he he's just a point and shoot guy who can't even go over the middle really they had to take that out of their playbook so he's not worthy his football IQ is not like worthy of Justin Jefferson like he doesn't know how to use him he didn't he he they didn't connect on a back shoulder fade the entire year like I'm just doesn't Justin Jefferson is like an edit where you Photoshop Justin Jefferson's face on the mule near and Odin's like whoever is worthy shall possess the power yeah I you need a quarterback like Justin Jefferson
can do some damage but he's a nuanced guy you know he's somebody who does a lot of little things to when I think with Isabella yes with his separation and at the catch point and I just feel like McCarthy lacked absolutely all of those nuances I feel like Kyler connection he knows what to do with all that all right he knows what to do with all that so I I think it's going to be a home run as long as Kyler is healthy I think that that's the I think that's the main thing and I think like man like someone posted a picture of a video of Ashawn Robinson getting a pressure because the bucks just signed him and like it's a pressure on Kyler and it's just some random Kyler play it has nothing to do with what he's doing and it's like a pump fake and then a reset and then he changes his arm slot not side arm but almost past 12 o'clock where he's like throwing it on the other side of his head and that's how he's getting the ball around a not stretched hand it's like man he has all these little things to throw over the middle um it's not like he
it's not like it never happens it's it's that it doesn't happen as much as Darnell then too if if Jefferson has to get hit on a go instead of a dig like I'm sure they can make that work I don't know I just think that kind of thing is overstated he just he's playing with he played the last three years with the Lions OC so like he kind of understands the assignment like yeah maybe Jerry Goff is a better scheme fit but you know 2024 the Cardinals had the best DVO of a DVOA of anything that missed the playoffs like that Kyler wasn't leading a just some abysmal team it they were like you know in the hunt they were in the hunt and but I think that white people sour on Kyler is how many times have they been in the hunt how many times has he been in MVP candidate through the by-week and then yeah he gets hurt or they fall off towards the end of the year and so now we've painted this picture of well he's not like a great player for X-Men number of games it's oh he's a choker for X number of games and once you start looking at the
butt of perception it just changes that so I get it I get why there's a negative perception and I get why you know he's not probably you know Caleb Williams even it's in the same archetype but the Vikings had awful quarterback play in one nine games Sam Darnell never did anything really before being the Vikings quarterback they won 14 games Kirk cousins I mean he they won 14 with Kirk cousins maybe multiple times I don't know like I just don't think Kyler is like this I don't think this I don't think Kyler is like in a way worse spot coming into it than any of these other Viking reclamation projects outside of the injury risk of course and that's the issue what do you think would you guys pay these back of quarterbacks as much money as they're getting you see the trail ants six and a half million bucks well I picked it I mean well what's the percentage of the calf compared to like a back of quarterback and what do you mean I don't know
I have no idea well I'm assuming I look I all I know is it says seven and a half million dollars I have percent I'm being a logical about this I'm not looking at that I don't care if it's yeah oh are are they getting more money than than usual I wasn't even thinking about that I was just like dang man because there's real players you can go get yeah and I think I forget who said it I always think about that quote about Peyton Manning we don't you know why don't we let the back of getting e-reps because we're fucking we don't practice fuck yeah I think about that all the time yeah the time or maybe the fucking you like oh I think you're right yeah good pull good pull oh yeah I I don't know I don't know if they are getting too much I've always heard you know we people always say being a backup quarterback is the best job in the world because you get to do nothing and you get million dollars but yeah no kidding I do I'm just I'm just saying like I just watch the Panthers and it's fine because they signed someone else who was solid leisure what it's like I watch the Panthers sign Kenny Pickett for seven and a half million dollars in the
starting center walks for like almost exactly that amount of money I'm like okay well I'm I'm probably stupid and lazy but I feel like any any free agent deal under 20 million dollars total all it depends on is how good the team is like oh reek will in science for 14 million dollars the Eagles are a good team great signing great signing Nick Cross science for 14 million dollars the commanders are bad what are we doing waste money waste of money sure I don't know I just I feel I feel like these these contracts get to a certain level like they'll age well if the team play the team is good they'll age that's that's because that's because all of these guys they won't have the opportunity to make one play in a playoff game and magically become worth their share share it's like yeah you would sure is the
overpaid but remember that first down he had remember that tackle he had that a vision around dude exactly you take that all over again that that tackle for loss on on third and two yeah exactly it's the Texan signed Logan Hall wow great that ended up being a really great value signing for them the the Raiders spent spend on Malcolm Coons what are we what are we doing he did nothing right he's made no big deal I mean people I mean people are doing this with with drafting right too where it's like a gentie I've seen people it was like I can't believe the Raiders took gentie in with a top five pick and it's like well they were just bad last year it's not like I think people have genuine beef with running back oh they do that they do have genuine beef with running backs going in the top five but like you guys had to remember there was a time when Z
quint nuclear as a rookie yeah I think what do you think about Jeremiah loved the giants I honestly just like I think there's other guys I'd rather take like I'm not against running back I but I like other prospects I think a little bit more like I don't wait positional value quite as heavily but I would rather have like if we're already in taking running back territory I might go with nouns or or styles or somebody like that for me personally love I think will be a very good player and I have seen some discussion online about it and I am reminded of the whole positional value is real but I like I like taking good running backs and I think you know I think sometimes those guys can get sort of an unfair beat where if they're taken highly the expectation becomes like all right well if this team doesn't win the Super Bowl they're why that's
why they didn't win it all it's like okay that's probably not a fair standard to hold them to or or whatnot with say quan it's a little different because say quan got drafted highly and like there was a bunch of other serious options at quarterback when they did not have a quarterback that they very much could have taken yeah I could have taken Alan or Lamar right that's that's right right and they really they really could have like taken the solution at quarterback or even logically like taking a shot at a quarterback even if they got it wrong like I think that's much better process but it's a little different in this draft class even the after windows so yeah I agree even then I think there's a little there's probably four other guys I'd like get including positional value over love even if somebody who waits at less I just don't like to see those poor running bags get like blamed for like bejohn Robinson it's like bro that pick is not their issue that pick is like not in their top five issues as a team right now at all I get like could they've hit on somebody who is higher value yes but then it would just be somebody who's
higher value on a team that's probably about as good and just not getting the blame for what they could have not drafted James Pierce you know that would have helped that would have helped a lot you know Jeremiah I would take love if I were the giants he's my number one player on my board still so what you was was bejohn I mean yet they could have taken like and I don't even know if they could have taken somebody more valuable like I don't know I'm just saying and I'm guessing there's somebody who's going to have more surplus value considering how high they drafted I mean it depends on what you want to call like reasonable range because sometimes you see these people it's like well they could have taken it it's like some guy in the third ground it's like okay yeah I guess yeah I just I just wouldn't trade bejohn for anybody like below him like well jailing Carter went right below him he's really good but like what I trade bejohn Robinson for jailing Carter like I don't think that I would I don't think I'd trade him for don't know right I don't think I'd even trade him for Christian Gonzalez
maybe I trade him for JSN maybe they should have picked JSN I don't know but like even then it's like you're kind of you're kind of just you're kind of just making lateral moves if you do that I'd actually like you're a real one Drake London is a real one no no no I would trade him for Isaiah Foster you second um I would I I don't know like I could have taken gone value you off value I agree I just think that like like they could have they should have taken Tucker crafted they could have taken they could have taken Jameer Gibbs you really you really would not rather have Christian Gonzalez Carter Carter was like an off the field thing right is not as good at his position as bejohn as I get it but like Gonzalez is I feel like going from Bajon Robinson to Christian Gonzalez would have an zero impact on the stats that's true but like okay well if that's that's the lens that we look at it through then it's like well that's the it's the lens that I look at it through it's like look maybe make the trade and you you're not worse I don't know maybe maybe you
have the best defense in the league if there's if it's Tarell and and Gonzalez I don't know maybe but I just I don't really think that that would be true I think that they would I just I just think with those running backs like oftentimes because surplus value you do end up looking back and saying there's a handful of guys that we could have taken that would have been like you know better against the cap or whatever but there's also they also like hit at a very high rate I mean highly drafted running backs especially in the top half of the first round are all pros more often than not at least in the last 10 years I'm I'm pretty sure since since the Trent Richardson bust really when I think like the entire thought around running backs changed so it's so it's the Browns fault everything was the Browns fault what like what do what what is the logic with the chiefs then if they take a corner and then they don't pay them and then they trade them away for a first round pick right that's something you can do it the cornerback position they're trolling
is that like does that mean they just shouldn't take corners anymore like now they have to take a corner basically right like because they don't have any corners anymore so you're maybe just gonna go no corner no corner cheese like can't but but if it's so easy to just draft and develop a running back like could you not obviously that for cornerback when the chiefs are acting the way they are like I don't know I think I win trade I wouldn't trade Bajon Robbins advice no but I mean I said maybe for a haul of picks but I just would not go for player for player looking at it through the lens of like well what could they have drafted instead it's always looked at through the lens of best case scenario no one ever thinks about well they could have drafted the manual Forbes they could have drafted we'll be like we took we took Lucas Van Ness because we got to build through the trenches bro it's got to be offensive line and defensive line every fucking time and then you end up with Lucas Van Ness instead of JS and like I was screaming at them to take but whatever or Gonzo I love Gonzo take Gonzo take chase it
no no we need beef we need beef we need Lucas Van Ness immediately we're like if will levis was being mocked as a first round prospect what if they had taken will levis yeah that would have been the equivalent yeah so it just think with those running backs I mean they hit at a very high rate typically when they go high they're very high quality prospect but you do lose a little something on this surplus value I think it's fair to admit that even if I'm pro still taking them high if I were the giants I just don't think like I think there's a couple other guys I like over love I'm not I'm not low on love I think it'll be a very good player I think it'll be great honestly but I mean they already have scatabose you're not saying anything like this right there yeah and try not to trace you so that time I do think with the giants I look at the moves they're making and it's it's padricard and it's Isaiah likely and it's aluminum and you
know they're going Ravens mode they're going to be in prospects of played for the Ravens at all they're going to be in 22 they're going to be a 22 personnel mashing team I guess and if you're going to be that and why not I'll not take jump I get a great back and I go get Jeremiah love if you're going to run it more than any other team in the league like why not have all three of them to just hand it off to and just be a constant stream of good running backs and none of them are getting hurt none of them are getting tired I can see it from that perspective but I could also just see them taking away scatabose going to go yes scatabose is going to be pissed if they take a running back man hey not if they handed off 50 times and they both get 20 carries scatabose once all 50 though yeah and dark you know dark needs his 20 exactly yeah they can they're they can't draft love man there's too many mouths to draft love trade neighbors no class and
neighbors and it's they run the ball 80 times a game it might be their plan I don't know his neighbors his neighbors going to be okay he's so far he is I don't know he's he is five century like not great I don't know I'm making this up entirely all right yeah I see he seems to be in good spirits on TikTok so I'm assuming he's going to be okay sweet is he like selling stuff on the TikTok shop right now man no you you should check out his chick-tock he does not post like you'd expect into okay he posts like I miss old Disney Channel like oh wait he's just like what is his TikTok or cop is it is it more of a spawn hour two or is it it's more of like a insell it's more like insell is more of like like when you say insell is he like
truly posting things that are like like from not in cell maybe like forever alone okay because it's different or is it or is it more just like nostalgia like remember when we were and it was Christmas it no I would say it's it's like forever alone content and like Nostalgia like not nostalgia in a sad way but like in a okay I love whatever it is I don't know what it was okay but like on the TV old Nickelodeonian is playing and he's like dancing the dance moves to that what going on I don't know you just check it out okay he's like yeah this is this is insell shit you know you know you know like those those TikToks where it's a Stephen A Smith rant and then somebody is like talking the Stephen A Smith rant at the exact same cadence and pace and all the words are right and he's like doing that with like with like a high school musical type
thing I don't know all right okay I think that's I think that I don't think that's insell at all yeah no no insell is the wrong word well that that's not the insell part the insell part is like tuning in to stay hot to see the occultiment itself it'll be like a girl doing something cute with their boyfriend and then he pops up after you watch it been watching this video and being like this will never happen for me dude you're you're nice you're really good I think I'm sure that there's somebody out there for you bro you had 1200 yards is a rookie Malik it probably is gonna happen for you probably you've got 1200 yards is a rookie and you know all the words to that's high school music so that's something I know I know there's somebody who likes to high school musical and didn't have any yards and they're still I like your earrings I'm a cool earring you're a bold player you're cool you're funny like there's a girl out there for you Malik you have good body control you're at a 60 we're going we're setting him up and we're
like trying to wingman for him it's like very easy job my friend Malik is great body control my friend over there is thanks you're cute and it's Malik neighbors easiest job in the world I think yeah like my multi-millionaire elite athlete friend over there thanks you're cute I could do it yeah but yeah so I think that'll do it for another episode to stay hot thank you all for tuning in make sure again we've brought it up before you check out the stay hot patreon a lot of great content there the the advice episodes seem to be doing really really well so shout out Matt and Theo for putting those together we'll be doing some more draft stuff maybe we'll be doing some more MBA stuff all types of auxiliary content that you're looking for from us you can find it on the stay hot patreon it's a ton of fun I'm excited I'm excited to get my new place so I can really lock in and get to work on I'm excited I'm excited to see the new place
man so it's pretty nice yeah fire are you gonna are you still gonna be in Covington or are you gonna be like back in Cincinnati I've been Covington okay yeah I've I thought you probably would like you would want to get like a new idea again just uh I guess I'm like I'm like two blocks deeper into Kentucky okay I end up he's just getting deeper into Kentucky pretty soon he'll be pretty soon he'll be in like Tennessee man do you do you have an opinion on what wins best picture tonight or no I haven't seen enough of them to to really have an impact have you seen any of them I think um dude I think I think no I watched a little miss sunshine the other day and I thought it was pretty good um shout out Steve Carell shout out Paul Dana um it's cool I the only the only thing I know about it is is is the Chalamet drama 24 seven sure the only the only thing I know
about the Oscars right now is that um my girlfriend got added to a group chat of like this random job place or whatever um this random store I guess and someone was asking if someone could pick up their shift so they could get ready for the Oscars and Sophia was like should I should I leave like a crazy responding like yeah I'll pick up your shift and then not be able to to pick it up because obviously doesn't twice to get the evil that would be really evil but no I'm gonna do that so fear actually someone responded they were like wait a second this isn't this isn't someone so as number this is the wrong number oh okay so yeah so then Sophia like just exclamation the the message she emphasized she emphasized it yeah that's the right word I like it so she didn't be evil but yeah we were like oh she got added to the wrong group chat so I've seen I've seen none of these but uh
I hope I have to see what the I don't actually don't care which one wins I don't care I know it's sinners versus Marty supreme and like the pop culture right oh I did see the first hour of Marty supreme I was watching with my parents and it was like I don't know they weren't five and with it so we turned on antique roadshow so I don't think that boats well for for Demand all just off of uh looking at the nominations I'll say Michael B Jordan should win best actor over Shalame and the Caprio easily uh everybody mad at Shalame is so funny I'd be so cooked if anybody listed a one stay hot episode and like you didn't meet you that lens like didn't you say that like ballet is like a dead order something yes that's kind of fucked up when like his mom and sister are both like renowned so he would know but like I'm just saying like if I if I were to say like I don't know track is a dead art or like a dead sport and like my mom and sister would be like what the fuck bro
like are they what like what do you mean are they are they don't like do you think that no well then why would you say that's what I'm saying because it's ballet and and this is that he's talking about like really is like used to be a lot bigger than they are now like that's what he said like he doesn't want movies to like become irrelevant or become something that is like for just old people and propped up by like found it very selfish from the way I heard it like he didn't want to be irrelevant which like which he should not be not but like dude like you're the biggest actor in the world or one of them I don't know go sing opera I'm just saying you can if if anything you could be if if you really believe that you could be the one to prop it back up
