Reg Bown: Lollipop Man's 28-Year School Crossing Legacy

0:00On April 2nd, a 91-year-old legend from Greater Manchester, named Reg Bound, is hanging up his lollipop stick after 28 years keeping kids safe at school crossings. He's wrapping up at Sail High School with his very last morning shift on Thursday, April 2nd. Reg jumped into the job at 60, starting at Wellfield Infant School in Sail. He tried retiring at 70, but couldn't stay away, coming back to Sail High for over 17 more years of steady service. Sitting up in Sail during World War II, Reg watched the town hall burn from his bedroom window. He did national service in the RAF, worked in printing, and now at 91, he's still out there every day, refusing to let age slow him down. His wife of 63 years, 85-year-old Anne, has been ripe beside him as a lollipop attendant for 26 years. She chats with everyone after shifts, and even though she's off for school holidays, she'll back him up on his final patrol.
