On this March 12th, here's what's making headlines for the NHL. The Detroit Red Wings are dealing with some key injuries ahead of their playoff push. Captain Dylan Larkin and forward Andrew Kopp are both sideline with lower body issues and expected to miss at least two weeks. Veteran David Paran is also out for about a week with a similar problem. Larkin got hurt during a loss to the Florida Panthers on March 6th when his right knee buckled after a fall. Kopp went down the next night against the same team, tangled up in a face-off scrum. Both will get checked again after the two-week mark. Coach Ty McClellan called it a tough blow since both are top players the team needs in the lineup. He hopes they recover quickly without losing too much timing or conditioning as longer absences could mean extra work to get back up to speed. The Red Wings sit at 36 wins, 22 losses and 7 overtime losses, holding the first wildcard spot in the east. There are just three points behind Montreal for a third in the Atlantic Division. Larkin has 55 points in 63 games while Kopp has 37 in 65.

Meanwhile, Paran, who just joined from Ottawa on March 5th, has been played since January 20th and has 25 points this season. The team heads to Tampa Bay on Thursday at 7pm, Eastern Time, aiming to stay in the hunt despite the absences. A message from our sponsor supports today's story.
