Red Raiders March Madness: 22-10 Record, Top 16 Ranking

0:00On March 15, Texas Tech Red Raiders grabbed the fifth seed in the Midwest region for the 2026 NCAA tournament. They will take on 12 seeded Akron this Friday in Tampa, Florida. This marks their 22nd trip to March Madness in the program's 101-year history. The team stumbled at the end, dropping their last three games, including a big loss to Iowa State in the Big 12 quarterfinals. Still, they wrapped up a solid 22-in-10 regular season with a 12-in-6 mark in conference play. Is their third straight tournament birth in 7th in the last 11 years? Head coach Gret McCaslin has never missed a big dance since arriving in Lubbock. The 49-year-old boasts a strong track record, including past tournament wins at North Texas and Assistant Stince at Baylor. Tech kicked off the year as the 10th ranked team preseason, their best ever, and sit at 16th now. They held their own against elite foes, going four and three versus top 10 teams, and three and one against top five squads.
