Recount in NC Senate Race: Page Leads by 23 Votes

0:00In Durham, it's March 17th, and here's what is going on. Election officials in Guilford and Rockingham counties will start a recount soon for North Carolina State Senate District 26. Republican leader Phil Berger requested it after losing to Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page by just 23 votes. County campuses certified those results on Friday, March 13th. Poles had shown the race neck and neck for months, even though Berger spent millions more had President Donald Trump's backing and led Republicans in the legislature for 22 years. Election night ended with Page ahead by two votes, and that grew to 23 after provisional ballots and military overseas votes came in. Page told reporters his long-share of career and ties to local folks outweighed the big spending. He stressed serving Rockingham County citizens for 28 years, and now plans to include Guilford County too. Berger's team had no comment right away. Their recount qualifies because the margin is under 1% of total votes.

1:01Berger's camp pointed to three over votes and 217 under votes across the counties. By partisan teams will handle the hand count publicly with election board members watching. Meanwhile, Page posted online that voters spoke clearly and he sure the recount will confirm his win.
