This episode is a re-release of one of our earliest recordings.  When we originally covered this story, it centered on a viral video in which internet users claimed that news outlets had reported a famous Mexican model alleging she witnessed cannibalism among the rich and famous.  Our focus at the time was on verifying whether credible media sources had actually reported those claims.  This episode was recorded well before later online speculation attempted to connect the woman to Jeffrey Epstein, and reflects the context and information available at that time.  That being said, we standby our assessments from this episode and further discuss our thoughts on the connection between Jeffrey Epstein and Gabriela Rico Jimenez in Epstein Files Part 1.

This week we are re-releasing a listener favorite from season 1, in which we did a deep dive into one of the strangest viral moments of the late 2000s.   On August 4, 2009, cameras caught a young woman named Gabriela Rico Jiménez outside a luxury hotel in Mexico, accusing high-profile figures of kidnapping, murder, and even cannibalism.  Police led her away on live television, and then she vanished from the public eye entirely.  Did Gabriela stumble too close to something powerful?  Or is this another case where rumor overtook reality?
