Randall Wine Group Cuts Jobs Amid Industry Crisis

The company cut 15 marketing and sales positions in a major restructure. This comes amid a great oversupply, higher costs, falling global demand, and surging fuel prices. The group owns popular wineries like Set Peltz Field, Gimtree, and Penny's Hill. The layoffs happen right after plans where Set Peltz Field's 175th anniversary were announced. The business is also pulling back from sponsorships to focus only on revenue generating activities. Meanwhile, owner Warren Randall is reviewing his vineyards during the current vintage season. Randall has called for the industry to pull out a third of Australia's vines to fix the oversupply. He described this year's vintage at Sepplesfield as the best since he bought it in 2009, but he warned that without action, the glut will continue hurting everyone. Rising fuel costs are adding pressure, up 35% in just six weeks.
