Rams' QB Dilemma: Draft or Rely on Stafford?

Now, with Matthew Stafford still balling out at age 36, the team has no real backup plan and hasn't touched the position lately. Under Sean McVase since 2017, the Rams leaned on veteran backups like Jimmy Garoppolo instead of developing their own. Guys like Stetson Benin were meant for long term depth, but he's entering year 4 with little action. Stafford could play another one or two seasons, maybe even into his 40s, but the Rams know they can't count on that forever. Teams like Andy Reed's chiefs and eagles draft a quarterbacks often, even late rounds, to groom behind starters or flip for picks. Riga value trading Kevin Colve after a few starts, and the Patriots cast in on Mackasell and Jimmy Garoppolo. Lately, the 49ers are shopping Mac Jones for a potential second-rounder after he showed promise. This draft class looks weaker

1:02up top, but day 3 gyms like Drew Aller, Garrett Newsmeyer, Cade Clubnik, and Luke Altmeyer have real upside with arm. Talent and size. A bus there isn't much worse than any other position, and a hit means cheap starter money or trade bait. Rams fans, if Stafford keeps cooking for four more years, perfect. But grabbing a late round arm now sets up a bridge guy or flips for draft capital down the line, keeping the squad stacked no matter what.
