Rams Add Super Bowl Veterans to Boost Special Teams

0:00On March 10th, the Los Angeles Rams just added some serious Super Bowl pedigree to their roster. They signed Long Snapper Joe Cardona from the New England Patriots to a two-year deal worth $3,450,000. Cardona played in the most recent Super Bowl with New England and now heads the Los Angeles to shore up their special teams. Earlier this week, the Rams also brought in former Kansas City Chiefs Cornerback, Jalen Watson. Cardona brings two championship rings from his time with the Patriots in 2016 and 2018. He's a Southern California native, having grown up in Elkhohon and started Granite Hills High School. Last season exposed major weaknesses in the Rams Special Teams Union. They lost three or four games before mid-December. Partly due to those struggles, leading Coach Sean McVey to fire the Special Teams Coordinator. Mid season, a first for him, that one bright spot was a game-winning field goal that sent them to the NFC title game. This move fits into an aggressive offseason for the Rams.

1:02They traded for all pro-cornerback Trent McDuffy, and now, with Watson and Cardona, the group combines for six Super Bowl rings. Officials see Cardona as a veteran leader and former captain to guide the young specialists. As training camp nears, these additions could transform the Rams defense and special teams into strengths that pushed them deeper into the playoffs.
