Clark Avenue serves as a popular shortcut parallel to Hillsboro Street with 9,000 to 10,000 vehicles passing through daily. Many drivers exceed the 30 mile per hour speed limit, especially in this neighborhood full of homes, apartments, and foot traffic around the university and nearby shopping district. Residents raise the alarms following the crash, pointing to visibility issues from hills and trees that make it hard for drivers to spot pedestrians. A petition with over 1,200 signatures called out known safety problems, noting nine crashes at the Clark and Pogue intersection in, the past three years alone.
