7News Just In — Qantas crew praised for handling engine failure on takeoff. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
It's safety investigators have praised Quarters Crew who safely worked their way through an engine failure at the worst possible moment. A hidden crack in one of its blades caused the 737's right engine to fail just as the plane took off from Sydney Airport almost 18 months ago. Pilots continued with the takeoff and landed on one engine 30 minutes later. The fragments from the busted turbine started a grass fire right next to the runway.
