Purple Day

0:00Today, we're wearing purple to honor a movement started by a nine-year-old girl who wanted to change the world, one classroom at a time. Welcome to the National Day Spotlight for March 26th. In 2008, Cassidy Megan of Nova Scotia was tired of the mistsarowning epilepsy. She wanted people to understand that having a seizure didn't mean you were different or limited. It just meant your brain worked a little uniquely sometimes. She started purple day to encourage her classmates to talk openly about the condition, choosing the color lavender because it's the international flower for epilepsy. What started as a small local effort exploded into a global phenomenon, with millions of people on every continent now wearing purple to show the support. On purple day, we celebrate Cassidy's courage, and the reminder that no one has to face their challenges alone. That is such a cool story that this nine-year-old started this whole global movement.
