TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:
2 Peter 2:4–10 - For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; [5] if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; [6] if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; [7] and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked [8] (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); [9] then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, [10] and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority. I want to welcome you to this movement that God has begun to help people get their minds aligned with his truth. You can find out all the ways you can support one time, monthly, all kinds of ways go to morning mindsetmedia.com slash support. All right second Peter 2, 4 through 10 is our focus today so we're going to pray and get started. Oh God, reveal to us the truth of your word. Help us understand your righteous judgment that is coming to this world we ask in Jesus
name. Amen. Okay, Peter has just been talking about false teachers who come in among God's people and he's continuing. He says fourth God did not spare angels when they sinned but cast him into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment. And if he did not spare the ancient world but preserve Noah a herald of righteousness with seven others when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly. And if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction making an example of what's going to happen to the ungodly and if he rescued righteous lot greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked. For as that righteous man lived among them day after day he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard. And the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling
passion and despise authority. Now that's a very lengthy passage full of a number of examples actually three to four different examples there. What is Peter's point? Well Peter's saying I just told you about false teachers. I told you about how God is going to judge them someday and then I want you to look at some biblical examples. So look at this issue of angels when angels said God cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment. Now that's angels who send back in Genesis chapter six there was an outbreak a rebellion of heavenly beings against God back then and he goes on to give another example of how God brought judgment through the flood but saved Noah. He gives the example of Sodom and Gomorrah how God brought judgment on them for their evil deeds and he rescued lot out of its midst. And so then he sums all of that up in verse nine. He says if God did these three amazing things in human history that he knows how to rescue
the godly from trials. In other words you don't have to be fearful when you recognize that there are false teachers coming in among you. God will preserve you. God will rescue you from the false teaching as you open your eyes to see the light of the world Jesus Christ and to go back to the scripture again and again and seek to understand what is true and what is right. And he goes on and he says and he will keep the unrighteous and under punishment until the day of judgment. In other words God knows who's who and those who are disturbing you causing destruction through their false teaching. God will ensure that they will receive proper judgment at due time. So friends, thinking of all these things, what do we have to be afraid of? We have a god who is so competent, so powerfully able to not only keep us and rescue us but to judge those who are our enemies and enemies of his cross.
Lord God gave us confident, humble boldness as we engage with people in this world not to be intimidated by those who are antithetical or in opposition to the faith of Jesus Christ. Guide us in compassion for them, in truth toward them, causing your name to be glorified and your praise to be extolled in the world as we await your rescue and your judgment. We pray all of this in your glorious and powerful name, Jesus, amen. Hey there friends, just two more things before you go.
