Socialist commune New Harmony, Indiana collapsed. It was recently revitalized by a nepo baby’s oil money.
“There’s not enough” said the bookkeeper for The Farm, a commune formed in the ‘70s. It too only survived because they abandoned socialism and allowed residents to own things.
The Oneida community was a free-love socialist commune saved by selling expensive silverware.
The Amana Colonies were on the brink of failure, until they reformed into a company, selling appliances.
Communes abolish private property, promise equity, and then collapse.
I wish my new mayor understood that.
“Sharing” sounds nice, but it encourages some people to not try very hard. Yet someone has to pay the bills.
