I feel like when you get here, it's a whole other level. He's going to keep coaching well, he's going to be hard on you, he's going to tell you what you're doing, he's going to tell you what you're doing wrong, and he's going to push you to be your best. They have to move it all over. Yes, moving it all over. What was it like for you to get to be here and see this team win an national championship in your first two weeks on campus? It was crazy. I feel like I knew that they were going to do it from the beginning of the season. I feel like they always had the potential, and then they came out here that did it, and the freshman we had an opportunity to sit there and watch it. I feel like now we're just going to do it again. What did you learn from that? It's watching about me. It's all hard work, and it's just a bunch of guys, and it's really a brotherhood, and it's really just our family versus their family. We just got to persevere, and we got to win the games, and get back to the national. The first time I was saying that Carmell and Brandon have really been leaders in the Bronx over here. How have they both been leaders for you and the every single season? They've been leaders just in multiple ways, whether our column or in the film room together or on the jugs.

I'm asking them about this route, how I could run it better. I'm asking them how I run this route on this play, just many different things. I feel like those guys, they're like big brothers, and all that they've done is help me. A valuable is that to have guys that are in the play line football, but also a bit of college for a while. So we're getting good ask, and we're just various things about college life. I value what I think. It's real valuable for sure, because they're first round pit guys. I feel like just being in a room with those guys, and if you're able to thrive with those guys, you know something's going good for you. What are your impressions of the quarterback? I get specific with Tavian. What have you kind of known about him and what are you talking about? I always had a good relationship with Tavian. He recruited me hard to come here, so I feel like we always talked. He came here and he's been doing this thing, they've all been doing their thing. Julian's saying he's another Cali Kassel. I had a little relationship with him too, so good to see Julian, Lincoln, and Tavian all doing real good. What is that next step for you, Julian?

What do you want to do in terms of evolution? What do you want to do better? I just really just everything. I feel like you can never be too perfect, and I feel like you just got to keep doing your job. So I say maybe just showing up more and just doing my job to the T. Going against these corners or these TVs, how does that kind of lead you better? It's their protect. In high school, I had a five star corner DJ DJ on Lee. He's at Alabama, so I always had good work with corners. So I feel like it's just a lot, I'm going against a lot of good guys now. Instead of just being one on one that practice with DJ on, so it's real good for sure. Does it take more courage to play with slot in outside? Say it again, please. Does it take more courage to play with slot in outside? What do you mean by that? Because there's more stuff, but I think there's bigger hinders inside. You've got to be aware of it, but it doesn't take more courage to do that. I guess you can say that. I feel like I've just always played slot in it. I feel like that's what I've been better at, so I feel like I feel like it's just what I have to do to be on the spot.

No matter who's in front of me, how big he is, how strong he is, I feel like. If I got into sight, man, I've got to do it. I just want to tackle as a position that draws a lot of focus. Are you basically facing more pressure than the position on the line? In Europe, what is the problem mindset to succeed at that position? I think that the mindset for me, as always, has been that when I win my one-on-one, the ball goes down the field. I think that's what I'm most excited about being a left tackle is that, especially with the protections that are a little bit of longer plays where the left tackle tends to be one-on-one or the plays that tend to love the most because halfway through the play, you're locking them up and you just know that he can't go anywhere. You start to smile, but you're like, oh, dude, ball's gone. You know what I mean? Ball's gone and it's going to be a touchdown, it's going to be a huge gain. So I think for me, that's kind of the mindset you have to have to have the left tackle spot as soon as I win my rep, we're going down the field.

So that's just the mindset I have in terms of how well I have to prepare. I would say that mindset came from college, and obviously I played with a lot of great guys in college. I'm glad we have all of those guys here. To throw the ball to as well, just because against one of those things, like with CJ, you just, again, a left tackle in my mind, so it's just, well, CJ just do his thing. I want Kyle to be able to do his thing. Don't worry about whoever's over here, just do your thing. That's why you're here and just throw it to Marvin. And it will be good. You know what I mean? So that's something excited about. And I think all that starts because of what we do on the line. So I think just not just myself, but the entire room takes pride in. Hey, like when we do our job upfront, that's where everything else goes. So what these guys we have with the ball in their hands, do all that magic. We just got to do our job, just to entertain it when you're one on one, you know.

Well, just playing that that spot means something special just because of the history of that position. And, you know, just of all the greats that have played left tackle, I mean, do you ever think about just the past and the, you know, the people, the players before you who were in that spot and did great things? Yeah, I mean, again, I feel like just from, just as a young guy in a game, I, of course, try to, I like to watch the, the greats the game. I like to watch guys like, a weight worth, of course, you know, a willy Anderson, you know, he played on the right side, but again, I think continuing to watch the greats that play the game, just continue to dominate for those guys from maybe able to talk to them again to be able to learn from their story and their journey. And how they developed, of course, I understand I want to create a, I want my game to be able to be like theirs in a way to where it's talked about in a way of like that's a guy you need to watch just to watch with, you know, the fight that you played with the finish that you played with the technique you played with because those guys played almost 20 years, you know what I mean.

So, and again, I think that's something when you watch the guys though, the legendary guys come before, yeah, you know, they're strong and they're tough guys, but, you know, I don't know, but when you're like 36, 37 years old, you probably not that strong. Not as strong as you used to, but that technique and just the skill set, that's something that I admire. You mentioned earlier about the guys going out to UCLA and kind of getting out of the heat. I'm curious, when you're working out here, do you do anything outside or do you avoid it altogether right now? I don't know, I'm always outside. I'm always outside. I don't mind the heat. I love the heat. And honestly, for me, it helps. I'm off like 30 20. So I kind of warm up quickly. So it's kind of nice for my warm up. I don't have to be doing like 30 minute warm up. You know, you kind of just be outside long enough, collect this and your joints are on go. So I actually, I like it a lot. Going back to the players that have been in the league for a while, Calvin Beachham is one of those guys that's been in the league for a decade plus. What have you been able to learn from him?

I think, again, just learning how to be a pro in terms of certain things. For example, I'm a guy that when I like to train by myself, I'll just take a thousand reps of a set, a thousand reps of a reach block. I'm a rep, rep, rep and type, I've done a hundred times and I wrote perfect. And some of that beach is like talking about in terms of being a pro and I thought to me, that's me being a pro is a young guy. I pick up a lot of reps in my body. So I'm going to take a lot of reps and preparation. But beach is a guy where it's like, it's not about necessarily the quantity in terms of it's really through the quality. But, but even more so, he's like, you know, you're off season, you don't got to be doing something like this every single day. But when you do it like from your first rep, even your first rep is not like you're taking this rep. It wasn't good. It's going to be better on the second one. Like each rep, even when you're by yourself is just kind of, I guess a mindset, I just give yourself 15 reps instead of doing 60 reps. You know, sounds like a huge difference, but then you out of mind taking 60 reps from by myself and there's nobody that's waiting around on me and I'm by myself, I can take my time and I'll do that.

It's just being like, I'm going to do 15 perfect reps and I'm just going to slow down and take all my time. Stuff like that. That way your body, that way you're not, you're not, you're not doing too much before. Can't, you know. Many of the guys that left guard in the mix were here last year, except for ever. How does that relationship develop throughout the last season? Yeah, I mean, so honestly, I like that. That's my guy. We like to compete. We've been competing in the weight room since day one in terms of just like what we consider like athletic competitions. So like even in the weight room, I'm at the very end of the week when we're done lifting. I'll talk to Evan, I bet now you're standing. We'll just do some sort of competition, whether it's grip or whether it's John, where it's pull ups or something. And I don't let him leave until I beat him in all these two things. Like so if we do, if we do a jump thing and like I always thought was the best kind of, I had the most height when I jumped out of a line, I could dominate anybody and that but he beat me in that.

Surprising size of art. No, we're hopping on the bike. And then we did this bike thing. I beat him on a bike. Now we're on pull ups. So I beat him on a personal kid. Now we can leave. But we just have that that and we're just always just competing. And then again, obviously, he wasn't on the team with us last year. I think what he brings at the table with being a vet is that he's like a plug and play guy. He knows he's been in those scenarios before. He's played with guys like Penae when he was with Detroit. So obviously he's just being able to talk to him and how this is how it was when I was setting with Penae. I was on the same C Hawks. These are the different things that I can do that mirrors some things like in your game, how you set. And I'll talk to him about what I like to do in certain scenarios and how his set can sort of match that. Does that make sense? So I think he adds a lot. What's the longest you've stayed after until you've been.

To the point where a strength coach is like, you guys got to go. You guys should go. We're not trying to break any rules around here. But it's just me and him just going, and he loves it. So even us starting to do that, we started to get other guys in the O line that tried to hop in on our competition for fun. But only matters what be Evan. I'm just beating you. So it's fun. And I think this is probably the biggest year. It's just better to not share. Even though having a great year last year is just that the buying is just, it's unimaginable how good that we want to be.

We want this back. And I think all of us coming together and all of us coming back this year is just, it's a group understanding that we want to come and we're handling business. There's nothing more than just business. Statistically, I mean, you look, I think you guys will have 20 points last year once. There's not a lot statistically you guys could do to get better. So where improvements can you guys make to really get to that level? I think the improvements we need to do, I mean playing good throughout the year, but when the big games come, we got to play. I mean, that's where you have to be the best. We can't rely on anyone else. It has to be the defense that really runs the show. Have the time, have the offense. Got to carry them all back and have them do their day, do they know how to worry about us? Like, let no points or anything like that. So definitely big games we have to come. This is where it feels like any negative offense even last year you have so many guys. It feels like a big difference. Yeah, it definitely feels like a big difference. We just got a lot of guys. We got a lot of good special talent. And you know, you just got to find a way to get these guys on the field. And it's just having a lot of new guys, we got to definitely bring them in and definitely find a deal with them.

Get a chemistry with them and just bring the defense closer than we were last year. And that's why my main goal is... It's all season in for some of the couple of season passes. He's just a worker. He's been working for as long as he's been here. And he's just... You want to keep trying to find ways to get better every single day. And I just want to think he's out of Plotter 4. He's very passionate. He's very passionate about getting this back. You know, he has his heart and being a kid for my eyes, just like me, is just having a passion for one to win. Like you're playing for the Ohio State University. You want to win. You don't want to have to settle for anything less. Oh yeah, I think he just... I mean, he just had to be brought in. I mean, as a unit together, we just wanted to do better.

We wanted to be better every single game. And I feel like he just understood that. And every time he went in, he just knew that we were playing for each other. So he went out there and he played... He stopped thinking, stopped thinking less than just going. And he just played and played, showed out for him. Oh yeah, I think it definitely comes with experience. I mean, usually players play better towards the end of the season because they have more experience than being out there. So when you play more, you usually know more what's going to happen. So let's say it would be easier to be out there rather than thinking at most of the time. Thank you, Doc. There you go. I'll just ask, settle how, guys. What does this mean? I mean, you're here in third or fourth year. What does it mean for you to take pride in what school you are? I don't know if it's a special feeling to me. It feels like I have the whole city on the back on my back. Just being able to be out here and just... It's a blessing to be playing for the Ohio State University. So I mean, why the cherish every single day just treated like my last.

The third year in their coach building, you guys feel like you got the defense internalized and know every fit of what you need to know, I guess. Yeah, I think being the third year, I mean, the defense is just like... Right now it's just fine-tuning a little things. I mean, everything we're stuck, we're very glue. We're glue with everyone with all the plays and stuff like that. So we just fine-tuning a little things that we can get better at and pretty much just bringing in. With anything new that we have, just bring it in and really bring it together. So, I think we're good on that. You and Tylie, you guys are the main guys inside, but you are some of the other guys that really start on the command that they are going to be giving you guys some extra playing time to guess this year. I think a lot of guys are really pushing forward to being playing. A lot of interior guys like Hero, K McDonald, guys like that will, some of the other guys back there. They're really pushing it to play. I mean, anybody in a defense line could play right now. I feel like I can gather them together as a union and make each other better every single day.

That's what's going to make everyone. Because we're trying to get this year to everybody to play. Everybody needs to play. Good. Thanks a lot. Hey, well Tylie. You know what I actually was first of all? What do you feel like you can do this year as a fifth year guy to take your game the next level? Right now it means just stepping into a fifth year of being here a while. It's a leadership role. I feel like being a leader in here, I really have to push the younger guys and really have to step up for the men. I've been here a long time. I feel like really elevating the guys to below me and really making them better. If they can play just as good as I can play, then we're going to be on top of them. How does it help you play confidence when you have so many veterans around you guys that you've played for so long? It helps us because it just has the chemistry thing. So that's being together for so long. Being in the system for so long is like natural. So we go out there, we don't have to think too much, we just go out there and play because we know we got each other. For you, was it an easy decision to come back for another year? Did you have to think about it?

Definitely had to think about it a little bit, but I think all of us coming back, we all had to understand that. We still have something here. We need to finish this unfinished business that we need to take care of. What are the biggest things that you feel like you can do this year to help yourself get to that next level? Definitely think just playing harder, just having more experience to be out there playing the game and being out there more and just refining my technique and stuff like that. Just being able to be out there and make more plays. Just being in the right position at the right time. Is there a defensive line in the hole? What do you guys have specific goals for yourself this year? How you think you can get better as a unit? Right now, we don't have specific goals. I mean, right now, like I said, we're just working on technique and we're working on the little things. The little things are in a big thing. So right now, we're just trying to get the small and refined detail refining because we're going to make it go out there. You can go on need those when you get in the game. You mentioned your leadership. How have you seen the depth behind you start to develop this spring? It's definitely coming together. I mean, there's a lot of guys. There's a lot of guys really growing up and so they're really pushing the ranks right now.

I mean, as I said, anyone could play. I mean, just the way they work every single day. Any guy could come in and play in a position. Is there anyone who's really jumping out to you so far with spring? I mean, all the guys are jumping out. I mean, we've only been two practices so far, but I think all the guys are really working. It's like a group unit that everybody is pushing hard. So next time. Thanks, Ty. Thank you. All right. I don't know where Jay ran off to, but that leaves me to the hospital. You know, play in an end-game. They both played both positions in your defense in the world. Their college careers. Does it really matter in what you pull those two then? If they can both play both, then you've got Jordan in the slot. Yeah. Is that even? I don't know. Yeah, you do because you have specific job responsibilities within those. But they become more interchangeable and fluid in how you can function with those pieces. It's not like a true strong or a free safety. You know what I mean? Those guys are able to compliment each other and you have more flexibility within your packaging

to put those guys in position to make plays. Yeah. What have you seen for Jay? We saw him on Saturday running with the ones with the two. Seems like he's making a little bit of his opportunity with the key sense. Yeah, he's been a guy that's been on the rise. You know, to me, from where he was when he started spring ball to where he is now. He's made more plays at practice. His eye discipline is better. His understanding of the defense is better, which allows you to be able to play free and be able to play fast. So that's what I've seen so far and I expect that to continue. What about Jay and we play in how he's been progressing? He's been great. He's been great. He first off, we do a thing where we track. How well you run to the ball every practice. One of the things that we grade. Right? So you can talk about all the schematics that you want. Coach Knowles has all that. But if you're not running to the ball, you're not playing good defense. Right? So we track that and he's one of the guys that every single practice is one of our highest grade guys running to the ball. So he's been awesome from an effort standpoint first. Attitude, he's in early. He puts the work in and he's made a bunch of plays out here. So now I'm excited about Jay on the client for sure. You're talking about running to the ball.

Do you mean like he's ball hockey really well in the back end or is it a nose for the football running game or both? Yeah, so we're really tracking effort and how hard a guy's playing from there is what we do. But I would say this too, he's been around the ball a lot. Right? Well, it's alley running and he's downing the ball and on a break through run or fitting gaps and things like that. And then he's got really good range in the post or the half too. So he's done a good job of both of those things. I guess all the above. Yeah. Very good. Yeah, I do. I do. And it's been an opportunity for you have a couple of guys that are out there. So you're able to continue to grow the depth and be able to see what guys can do. And you have increased reps from that standpoint. So I do feel confident. I feel confident in the guys that, you know, how they've performed so far this spring. And the guys that haven't been out there, I feel confident from what their abilities are, what I've seen on film, and then the mental preparation from that standpoint. Now I would go back to refer to, you know, what late, and was like a couple of years ago and taking that same blueprint.

Yeah, he's done, I would say the mental side. I would say if you took, he has really good physical skills. You see him when he walks on the field. I mean, he's a, yeah, no doubt. I would say the mental side of the game, right? Really understanding what's the defense, what's my eye progression? Where do I fit into this chess piece? You know, what's my chess piece in this whole match that's happening? And yeah, I've been pleased with him and he's putting the work in to make sure he understands what's going on. I wouldn't say weird, I'd say it's great, right? And because his preparation is so high level, it challenges you as a coach to be an elite teacher, right? Because he's going to be on his game, it's like coaching a professional player, right? He understands the concepts of the game so well. He's put so much time into it. As a coach, you better be matching or equaling that, right? Going above and beyond that, because if not, he's going to be a step ahead of the coach, right? So it's been awesome to be able to push each other to make each other better.

He's got a great understanding and feel for the game. He's a great young man, the work ethic is really high level. So every value that you would look for, not just for a skill or intangible thing, but who he is as a person, I can't say enough about who Caleb Downs is. It's been awesome. What's the next step for you for waiting, man? You're talking about the preparation that Caleb has. What is the way of coming back from your final? Yep. Coming back from injury, like, what do you want to see from him? Maybe it's leadership, maybe it's on the field. I don't know. What is it for you? Yeah, I think leadership is definitely something, right? He's a guy that's been there, done that. He has accomplished a lot, but not the goals that he wants to yet. So I would say from a leadership standpoint, holding guys accountable, and he's done that at a really high level. And then his own preparation. I've been impressed with, you know, if you're not taking as many physical reps, what are the mental reps that you're taking? And he's done a really good job of having daily routine, putting the time in, making sure that he's caught up with speed with everything. So I would say the off the field stuff is a step in the right direction. What did you take away from your experience last year as a coach for a year?

Since we've lost talking 90-50 multiple spring practices here, what did you learn, something in your time, or whether it's just, I think for you as a coach that you brought here to bring the safety of your mission? Yeah, I think that you learn different ways to be able to do things, whether it's taking the ball away or tackling methods, or the way that it's taught from other defensive coaches, so to learn from a different tree and thought process and philosophy. I try to, I pride myself on being a teacher, which means that you better always be learning. Right? Are you getting behind? So I would say, yeah, just different ways to be able to maybe do similar techniques or things that have to be done from a defensive principal standpoint, and then bringing that to the table. As you step back and you say, okay, here's how I've always done it, or I've done it in the gym-null system, and then you're in a different defensive system, and how does that get executed, and then you can blend some of those or pick what you like from there. So a chance to reflect that, say. Did you feel like you accomplished what you wanted to away from the gym-null system to bring it back to the gym-null system?

Yeah, I mean, I think any time that you're, no matter where you're coaching, right? You have principles of defense and a way to be able to play defense, whether you're how you tackle or how you play the red zone, or different things like that, and there's metrics to be able to track that, and some improvement was made. Not enough of my opinion. You only move, there were strides from that standpoint, and then, yeah, when you come back into it, you say, okay, the system here has developed in a year that I was gone, right? And then maybe I'm able to develop a little bit as a coach too, and from a positional coach or a coordinator mindset, things like that, and then you're able to mesh ideas and come back, and you learn, hey, what's the new that's happened over a year, and then I was able to see the big 10 from the different lens as well. So I think that's valuable. Man, it's a question down a few safeties on Saturday. How do you feel about your depth of balance system right now? Yeah, it's something that, you know, we've addressed and say, hey, here's the guys that have played. Here's the guys that haven't played, who's taking the reps right now, and how do we grow those guys? You know, from Mass standpoint. So I think that's a work of progress every single day. So I've been pleased with the guys.

I think there's been a, you know, steadily on the rise approach from everybody in the room. You know, so I've been pleased with the guys in the progress that they've made. So I feel good about it, and I expect that to continue throughout spring, and then continue throughout summer and into fall camp, you know, from Mass standpoint. Yep. For some of those guys that may need haven't played much of year, but you can see it, they're going to move this spring. Yeah, Jayden Bonz was taking advantage of the opportunity that he's had, gentlemen, McClanes taking an opportunity, you know, advantage the opportunity. Inky had a really good day today. You know, it's taking advantage of the opportunity. So the guys that, you know, have taking reps, you know, I'm pleased with watching those guys, you know, continue to progress, you know. And the Caleb, I think, is, you know, learned our system and done really well, and gotten better every day. All right, now, thank you. Thanks. Appreciate it, guys. Appreciate it, guys. The game, the intensity, you know, I've said it a thousand times, that he doesn't get incrementally faster or stronger. The game mentally slows down for him so he can use his skill set that way. So what is that we're talking about? That's his weight, that's his strength. Because those numbers are going up. So he can play with more pillar strength, he can play more contact,

he can play more comfortable, even though his 40 time didn't go from a 5-0 to a 4-8. Have you seen Seth actuate himself into that? He just jumped right in. Unbelievable job, both ways of him just coming in with shelving the ego that he really had and done. And walking in and saying, I'm walking into a room as we told him we recruit him, like, you're coming into a room, a bunch of good dudes. And then our good dudes are good dudes. He came in and there was no, it's like, you're here, here's how we do, here's how we operate, and let's go. And so that learning curve for all those, whether it's a high school mid-year guy or a veteran mid-year guy, it transfers in, there's a learning curve there. Just, you know, circling back to what we had, natural maturation a little bit, because he's been through a little bit of spring boy, he's been through a little bit of camps. So you're still learning the terminology, you're learning a new skill set. But he just dove right in and wanted to be a sponge and wanted to learn. He's doing a good job and he's improving every day. You know, so that's what's making the battle and the competition and all these great snaps, really, you know, good for us is because they all have that mindset.

So from Seth, awesome, the unit in the group, awesome, because there was no combativeness to it. It was, let's get in, let's go on this compete and then let the guys win. Justin, what about Luke? Luke said the numbers skill set made you guys win. You can come up with a good link in the car. Just learning the same deal, all the young guys you come in, you gotta learn how to play in friction. So having, you know, three tech, having a two eye, having those guys like right in front of you, that every time you take one of those reps and you're out of your base or you're in your base, you feel the good, you feel the bad. So being more consistent that way, you know, you can't make moves or shift guys if they're not mentally there. And so for him, he's got a pretty good football FQ. So he's, he's growing every day, he's working and he's getting beat every day too. And he's learning from those, you know, from the spring time. You know, we have a saying in our room, we're like, in the spring, it's Justin, it's null. And I know it's KNOW. Why didn't the rep work? What happened? And how do I make sure I don't repeat the same mistake? And so whether he's coming in and watching the tape on his own and then come with questions, he's grabbing me and watching tape with me or we're coming doing stuff as a unit.

He's learning so that same deal the game can slow down and he gets more comfortable there in friction. So I mean, he's, his weights up, his strengths up, he's spending all of season with Mick. You know, there's a lot of development that still has to be had. Obviously not a finished product, but being able mentally for a guy to handle that, you know, helps a lot. Luke, a leaner guy. Did you tell him that? He paid you to say that? He did not pay me to say that, but I would say that. That might be the first time he ever heard that in his life. No. No. No. You know, like Luke Carson, whoever maybe, that jump of 18 to 19 to 19 to 20 year old kid, that plays a lot into it too. Being in a full year with Mick, I mean, all those guys, you coming at mid year, like your Divo and Dion and Ian more right now,

you're keeping your head above water. That's your whole first year. Now you can actually get and we can sit. So when you sit and talk about a jam combo or a lock or whatever the call may be to Luke, he registers that. And I like something new because then there's paralysis by analysis. So I think the middle part on top of another year, natural maturity of getting bigger and stronger, that's always going to help. You're not going to, guys here, they're not going to regress. It's going to keep adding progress and how fast can we get that going? Is what we're working on every day with him. But Josh said that he would have been all guard to this point. And Coach Day has mentioned this several times that Josh could play guard too. And you guys are trying to work through that fire. Yeah, he's, I mean, Josh could play all five. I mean, he snapped the ball in high school. You know, Josh had a great off season. But for you and you're going through a spring and it's fact finding and experimentation, how much do you want to put them in different spots or not? Because you also have an eye on August to try and settle on five minute rotation. What's the balance of that for you? You have to get a really good, gradable set so that everybody has numbers of, you know, just like we said before, how many times have we done?

A run blocking or pass blocking in this situation so that that all evens out. So that's the, it's not experimentation. It's just making sure that you get a good book of work to look at and grade that. So as we, you know, work guys around the platoons and go just to making sure that everybody gets good, gradable reps. So we can sit back by the end of spring and say, all right, this is your comparing apples to apples and oranges oranges and not, you know, apples to oranges because it's completely different that way. So that's kind of the thought behind that as you, as you're going through the spring. When you got here a couple years ago, because I was a full-cheap, a few years from now, Chip Kelly is going to be here as office and full-cheap set. Not a laugh. You know, but then I said, you know, it's college football. So who knows, right? What's up in like, I'm sure you're enjoying it. What's up in like, is that? Yeah, I mean, he just added to another piece of just good people here. I mean, you still, you're coming to work here with guys every day, you know, but the kids we talk about a ton, but then for us as coaches as staff. So adding just another good dude that's in the room. Obviously, as he says something and, you know, he might speak in old terms or terms that we had, you know, maybe be a little bit of a rosetta stone.

Like, no, no, this is this. He's like, yeah, that's right. Because that happens to all coaches that happen to me when we got here. First, I was at what coach day sometime with Ryan's like, you know, what do we call this? Because he was in a system like that before. And he's, oh, this is this now. So I think just the, you know, translation of a rosetta stone there help, but just overall standpoint of adding a great guy that's a great coach that's been around. That's, he's going to supplement the room and every time you add something new to the room, then that makes the room better. It makes you individually better. Oh, look how he does that. Maybe I could do that. Maybe I can bring that to my meeting room. Maybe I can bring that to communication to the staff or to the kids or whatever it is. Because he's, he's done it for a long time and he's done a high level for a long time. So it's good to add that guy to us and then continue as us to rest the staff for me and Brian and Key and everybody just learning and growing with that. What does he bring specifically just, I mean, does he from a talent standpoint? Does he see things sometimes, others don't see, I mean, does he, I mean, what does he kind of bring from the chalk?

From the chalk board aspect of that. Well, I mean, what you're saying. So what does he see? It's good to have fresh eyes come in that maybe, you know, you're getting a routine and you're getting a rhythm and all of a sudden. Beautiful, like certain aspects of what you're running games. Football. You know, he's one of those guys that I think goes into categories, forgotten a lot of football and some people have learned in their life. But no, his, he, I believe he coached every position on the field both sides of the ball through his whole career. So as he looks up and he writes when he's talking about, well, this will linebacker's going to do that. Then he might have coached that at Columbia, right? Or this is what the three texts going to read on the down block of a tackle. Because he's coached the offensive line and he's been a coordinator for a long time. So just a really good vision of big picture, understanding and, you know, the next step and not just being right and now, yeah. What is this Tigra? If he had a theme or whatever, this spring because I mean, this seems kind of like a, not a make it a break in time for him. The time to step up and step in point was nobody cares. Nobody cares what, you know, what struggles you have or whatever you got to go out there and feel to get the job.

It's a life play. If you know she think different about Tigra, what do you see about Tigra? Yeah, he was competing his butt off. I mean, he's kind of living that way. You know, that's why we have that, the red line over there. When you cross the line, you know, Coach, they talk about that here, like that it's the game doesn't care. You're off the field. You got to come out and step out and do your job. It doesn't care about anything off the field. Right? And that can sound really negative and harsh. But then it also, if you just spin your tone, like, isn't it beautiful that the game doesn't care? It doesn't care your skin color, your socioeconomic background, where you've come from. If you just want to do it the right way and the 53 and the third, the game will love you back. You know, so I think it's the approach mentally that guys take that way. So yeah, for Tigra, he's taking that approach. Like he wants to come in and be a guy. So he's fighting and clawing and scratching every day. So when he makes a mistake, he's trying to correct it when he does it well. He's trying to enhance it. And that's what competitive people do. And that's what he's showed up to do. So that's good that he said that.

What's his command on the field been like as a center? And is that difficult when you're coming into a new offensive line to have that? Or is there something made about the center position? If you've been experienced at it, like he has where you kind of have that, I guess, command on the field over with any offensive line. So I should say it over, it's not over again. You're saying the comfort of center with who now? Yeah, I'm saying like how has his command of the field been and hasn't been difficult, I guess, to adjust for him if he's to have a certain level of on field command. Yeah, I mean, the on command is just great communication getting everybody on the same page. Yes, having a bunch of banked reps helps. But then when you do come into a new offense, just like we talked, you know, with Chip a little bit earlier, you know, he might have called it yellow and we call it green or something. I don't just make it stuff up, but the transition of that in your head to get going with that. But yeah, the comfort of having a ball on your hand, having a guy, I mean, you talk about that. Accommodation of football, like play one handed and have, you know, tie leak this far from your face.

You better have command of something, you know, so you got to understand the communication and the technique and those things there. So yeah, I think him coming into a new place, the game's not as fast as it probably would be for a younger guy. But also there's mistakes there that he can learn from and grow from and same day he's, you know, the one thing we're not having concerns with, we're not driving right now as the guys just competing and trying to get better after a mistake or like we say, Tigray, enhancing as they've done some stuff really well and he's adapted to that really well. This spring is the same for that. How do you assess their own by center versus guard? They both have been ripping its center. Yeah. For the competition aspect, could they roll out and play guard? Yeah, probably both of them could. How do you assess that? You just got to give them a bunch of guard reps. But if you thin guys out too much that way, then that's not good coaching, you know. So we got a good plan with everybody. Those two guys included as we're moving ahead. But yeah, they've been really working at center position right now both of them.

Would you advise to watch our summer drill? No, I have it. He obviously came after spring practice next year. How has that seemed down here in the city? How has he been this spring? It kind of speak to how what the challenge must have been for him last year, not having spring practice at the end of the way that position in the experience for him. Yeah, same. He's been here not even a four year yet. So coming in the summer, doing what he did, coming in through the fall. And then now I mean the same with him. Sound like a broken record. I think the game's slowing down for him. Those mistakes that may have showed up for the questions that he had through the fall. And as we got going through the season, those are starting to erase a little bit, which is good. His communication level is just talking more. That's probably the best thing that he's done so far. He's a highly, highly talented guy. We're just developing that skills and discipline and does go into communication. So as he communicates and talks, that's probably the biggest thing I've seen from him, which I think volume and communication equals confidence.

And so he's playing much more confident right now. Obviously, he has talent. He also had a few plays of game or, you know, the penalty or whatever. Can you see them reduce those? A bunch. Yes. Coach, thank you very much. Hey, sure. Thanks, guys. Thank you. Thank you. You're my bare fans. Thanks, yes. All right, folks, we will come back when I think that's like the big thing. I mean, you're in those big games, but you got to be able to, you know, call it out like a pressure might come and stuff like that. So it's a win. I'm serious. Coach, for I, it's summer. If the start, I have a spring. Is there a level of understanding how he coaches and what he wants to use for years and how to do better than I hope he. Folks, we have Dalin. Hey, not 20. Just 100% effort and just to work hard. Like obviously, like, there's more to it, but that goes with things that he wants to do much and play fast. Like, that's the sum I pick at every day coming out here.

That's the best thing for him. You go back and ask for me. Is it almost like you have all the stuff that was thrown in me, all the stuff I had to adjust to. I really think that is a great, but aren't you used to using new features? Definitely, but I kind of, like when I come in here, I knew Coach Fry and staff, like they were going to, they're going to definitely like, scope me into the player. Like, that I want to do. Yeah, scope me into that. Yeah, like they know that like, scope, I mean, like, scope. Yeah. Like just kind of make me into that type of player. I mean, the development factor from Coach Fry that I've been getting is like, I didn't even, it's like Magic almost. So I mean, I'm just kind of keep going with him and keep riding with him. And having his free practice, having his son, or all that stuff, is how much better do you think you're doing? I guess we'll see. I'm going to keep picking that in. Sure. I'll see you with me. One of my players, Coach, describe you as I speak that. First of all, do you agree with that? What do you think they should do? I guess, yeah, I would say sure, but I mean, I can't really take credit for something like that.

You know, the boy I like that is, you know, the man above, kind of put that in my gym, so. How much is running game changing? New Onts, whatever you want to call it, with Chip Kelly in charge. What if you noticed this little bit, little nuances or stuff? I mean, maybe like little things. I mean, little things add up to big things, right? Yeah, I mean, yeah, where do you think you guys were lacking at some point last year in certain, some of those matchups? I mean, it was a whole new line, so I mean, like, I know the side camera shoot with each other, but other than that, I mean, those are hard games, nothing's going to be like, for sure, what's going on, you know, you can have some hard times. Did Missouri test y'all about as well as anybody? Just about, yeah. Yeah, they were pretty good. What did you know coming out of there, y'all had to get fixed? To be honest, I felt like we just tried to go out there and just play hard. Like, obviously, you know, number six was a really good player, so we just try to make sure he can either backfill as much possible, so that's really, we've tried to go to.

Did you guys like the striker game a little bit Josh couldn't do well when he saw you for a couple of those, just striker dancing? Yeah, so as a left tackle, like, after like, you know, more jobs, make sure nobody gets in the quarterback, and that's something that I try to do, make sure nobody kind of get around me or go through them or anything, just keep the quarterback clean out of here, and a lot more, yeah, they'll be able to do a lot of play, you know, mock people in the run, stuff like that. But like, that's probably one of the biggest things, not sure if the quarterback's going to get in the way. What block did you, I was just essentially something out of your mind? I mean, we got, I mean, we have the main deal I mean, throw his twist in and stuff like that, so in the run, no twist, too. So he was kind of like, I guess he just got a really state technically sound, and somewhat I'm trying to do it. Josh, if you're going to get Mitchell Melt, much this spring, instead of what stands out about him, obviously, he came back from a couple of knee injuries and stuff, but what just jumped out at you about him? Yeah, you wouldn't even know he had the two knee injuries. So like the way he rushes, it's so, like, it's his signature rush, like something that you can't, it's probably the hardest person I've had to block here, if I'm being honest.

He's very twitchy, great with his hands, amazing get off, and he has that sneaky power, like if you're not really like setting for it, he'll get you. And everyone gets your take, you know, he came here from San Diego State, your center, the guy's transferred in Seth McLaughlin, whether he starts or not, we'll see, right or no. He's an amazing you have, college football teams are put together anymore, because he could be a key thing, and what does that just tell you about the game these days? Yeah, I mean, it can go anyway, Seth is a great player, he tells me stuff that they did differently, and stuff like that, and I try to take some of like, maybe some advice he has, because he's been a college football player longer than me, so. Yeah, he seems like a grown-up, doesn't he? Yeah, he comes across it way then. What's the line of the line? Is your abs and my abs should go all the way to the pieces? And like, do you go like tens? What's the line of the position? Play fast, play physical. I mean, there's obviously more that we're working on, and we're learning like in each other to be honest. I guess the right side is kind of like going a little bit, I mean not with fire, but like, you know, we have like some people that compete.

I mean, we're all competing, I know I am, and stuff like that, so I just, we're just trying to play hard and play. Most of the way through is pretty fast. How helpful is spring? How helpful is spring? That's a very brilliant spring. How do you have that? Yeah, it's very nice, sir, especially when you kind of got a new OC and stuff like that, you can get the best to kind of get. You know, comfortable with the steam now, then maybe like close to camp, because then like in like a few weeks and you have to, yeah, we're going so. This one last year, Troy. Do you do it to lead on to get the future? I mean, Don, he's like, dude, I owe Don a lot. He's an amazing player. He gives me like insight on just what it's like Notre Dame. I've never been like more nervous before a game than Notre Dame. I just kind of talked to him, he said, we got it. Keep doing what you do, and we got to, we got to open the web. Oh, yeah, especially. Thank you.

I think it's really important to him to do everything with people just trying to talk to you, saying, you saw the word, soft and sack, well, commenting on my girlfriend's post of, and it's a lot of great things. It's kind of crazy to see, but at the same time, like, understand their passion for us to win. So I get that. I didn't think it was some of my standard. I was thinking too much and not playing. And I've deleted my social media. So I got other people who control my social media now. So I don't, I don't do any of that. You're obviously was for both you from a whole unit, like, and improvement over course of last season. Yeah. And then the con will have the same life as step back. Did it feel like that to you and did it change any of the, how you guys were processing this going into this brain? Yeah, no, I think the con bowl was a little different because Matt moved the center. So like, it was kind of a new piece to the puzzle, I guess you could say.

It was difficult because you're trying to get comfortable and you get comfortable with car center center and then they change it to Matt. But I mean, the cotton bowl was kind of a learning curve for all of us with Matt being a center. Did it feel like it all like you guys are giving back all the progress you would made over course here. Did it add to kind of the chip on the shoulder or what you guys had to prove still coming into the future? I think the second one you said the chip on shoulder. Because I mean, the defense locked it down that game and we didn't put it to anything. We went back and watched it and we're like, this isn't good enough as in our standard. So you said it was like a really after the game you watched it. Oh yeah, immediately. Yeah, like after this practice, how to go immediately watch it break it down, talk to the try, talk to Donnie, all those guys to see what they're seeing, how it could improve on this and stuff like that. What was kind of the feeling of watching it that first time rewatching that game? For me, I usually watch myself and then on whole entire office time. For me, I didn't like it.

I thought it was disgusting for my performance and then for the office line, I thought we should have cleaned it up a little bit more than what it was. Did it get like a blur? A little bit? John? Yeah, I guess you could say that. How many free runners have the board made? Yeah, yeah. It was just like because you're on your guy and it's like what the hell's going on? Yeah. What's happening back there? Because you don't have the eyes in your back your head. Yeah, hey, Tiger was just here a minute ago. I'm just a picture of Tiger. There's a big time offensive line. Yeah, yeah. And he said basically an approach to this spring or whatever. He's nobody cares. Nobody cares. What's your going through? What's your challenges might be, et cetera? Yeah. What have you seen this different about him? I think his approach is approach to coming on the field practicing and not just taking another rep just going and emphasizing that specific rep. Like, okay, I got to get to my spot and I got a punch. That is what's improved so much about it. I like your hat too. I'm a big golfer.

Yeah, I know. I know. I work just for you. Did you go there? Yeah, I'm a volunteer. Oh, that's sick. Are you going out of Pinehurst? Oh, yeah. That's sick. I'm a grandville guy like four holes just like Tiger. Yeah, I like going and watching Memorial too. I'm a big golfer. I love golf. Hey, getting back to Tech for the way you do it. What could he has rise being in this depth pool here for you guys offensive line line? I think it could be huge. He steps up and plays and I think Tiger could be a big time player. He just got to get like he said, taking that approach to the field and being a professional every single day will help him be the person who's going to be. Yeah, I got this request from somebody else to ask you. What are your top five foods? Jerry top five foods. Oh, God. Am I on a diet like in my in football or is it like I'm 40 years old and I think you wanted without gaining any calories.

Okay, so I'm going to go restaurants. I'm not going to go food. I'm going to go number five would probably be water burger. Number four would be hardies. Three. Drop three were sitting numbers two. I don't know. I like sitting down. Domino's is number three. Number two is McDonald's and number one's in and out. What about barbecue heaven? Oh, yeah, that one is good to yeah, I like that one. I don't know. I guess I'm not a big barbecue guy because I have it so much. We talked about, you know, thinking too much on the field, not just playing. How do you get better? I think just comes with more of watching the game breaking it down in the film room and then on the field when you're playing. You're just constantly going through it and then like, all right, just play. This happens. I don't care. Just go and go hard. Is there something I guess you could do mentally? Please now just set yourself in that state. Yeah, yeah. There's a lot of things that go through your head.

But at the end of the time, it's you versus him. And I'm just like, all right, this guy's not going to get there. Let's talk about run game differences. Jim here like. Yeah, he's creative. He's very creative in everything overall as aspect of offense. I can't get too much into detail about that. Yeah, but coach Kelly brings a new perspective and he's a great person and a great human being. Really, really super good coach. All right, Josh. Thank you, buddy. Thank you. I'm turning around and becoming a charter to catch on the fly. It's something that takes a lot of time and attention. I'm just thankful for a great coach and staff and great unit around me. Guys, you're back then starting off with you know, rock and those guys to Cade. I think there's been a very example of the way there's some type blocking and being entitled here at Ohio State. And I've been just thankful to be able to have that example. Hey, fellas, what are you waiting at? 2,35, 2,40, what were you waiting for?

2,45. What's it been like? Yeah, well, it's been great. He's been good. He's been somebody that's came in, humble and is ready to work. That's been the only words that I have for him. Not a minute, just many words, but he's here to appear to work and he's done just that. And I'm just, we gotta have... You've learned a lot. You've learned a lot. You've learned a lot. You've learned a lot. You've learned a lot. You've learned a lot. You've learned a lot. Like, I know you guys were working on this. Sorry, Kelly, you missed the full guy anyway. But also, that's what he's doing. You guys learned a little bit. You guys learned a little bit. Yeah, I think essentially that's the culture of our room. When we come off the ball of violent, we're looking as soon as hard as we can. We'll clean up the details out. And so, that's kind of our mindset going into it. You went free to hear fucking what you're doing. How hard is it to be receiving or something? You should be receiving or something. Oh, you're a bad guy. In reality, you know you're doing a lot. You're doing a lot. How hard is it to kind of change the perception? You know what I mean? You guys don't pay attention to outside noise, but also a lot of things.

You guys got a lot of attention. Really? Pretty good. Yeah, I'd say it starts off with like you kind of got to, it starts off with tuning out with the outside noise. And what other people have to say about it. And it's really good. But mindset, I kind of look at it as if it's like a drop in a bucket. You know, if I got a big bucket, there's no one thing I'm going to do to make this bucket full. It's a daily thing where I put one drop in it a day. And you look back over a year, two years, three years. You look back and you're like, man, I've gotten a lot better. And so like I said, I'm just very thankful for the unit. The guys that I have around me push me very hard, and I'm just thankful. You mentioned that the development kind of is part of TENX. What was the most challenging part of you to make everything into the white line? Yeah, I'd say definitely the size component. You know, you got to be someone that's, you know, when you've got to be big, you've got to be strong. You've got to be fast. There's a lot of jobs that you have to do. It's a very asking job. You need to buck the big, some of the biggest guys in the field. But also run routes, off some of the smallest guys in the field. And so I've been just thankful just to be out here and do exactly that.

What was it like to get that shot the other day from the pros counts? From routes, kits, balls. Oh, yeah. Show off. Yeah, no, there's a good opportunity. I think some of the big, you know, region behind it was just kind of giving those guys out there that were at Pro Day. We have limited numbers. So just get out there and give those guys a breather. But maybe the opportunity you get to go out there in front of scouts. I think that's a pretty good deal. And you're taking only a quarterbacks to this point. Quarterback battle is going on. What's been your take on Will, for example, get to know him. And then of course, David, I think the mindset that we have body around here is ironing, sharpening iron. So that's kind of like, it's not just one room. It's from top to bottom, throughout this whole team. No matter what position you are, we're here to work. I think we're all here to make each other better. Whether it's in a quarterback room or tight in the room, we're running back room. Offense for defense, coach for his coach. It doesn't matter where all just iron and sharpening iron. Especially this time of year in Spring Ball. We're not doing too much game planning for next week. Which we're really just spending this time to get better. And it's a good foundation for ourselves.

It's something to work on, moving forward. If you've seen Will, how we're fitting in more and more, is the practice just going on? You know, getting to know everybody and all that kind of thing. I mean, I know we've been here for a while. I think it's time goes no matter where you are. You start to adapt and you start to get used to what we have going on here. So it's good to have them. Thank you. Thank you. You're welcome. Thank you. What's it been like? Yeah. Loading conditions. Yeah. I'd say when it comes to that, I think it's all the glory to the Lord. And I decided to give my life completely to the Lord a little over a year ago. And I think that kind of really changed my outlook on the way that I approach football. It's no longer something that I idolize, it's just something that I do. And I think from the time of my life where I stopped, you know, compartmentalizing who God was in my life. God was something that I do on Sundays or something that I do in a Bible study. It went from what I do to who I am.

And so now I embody that as who I am. And so some of the fruits of the spirit is peace, patience, and kindness. And so those are the kind of things that I've started to embody on this journey. I think it's easy to kind of compartmentalize football away from faith. But ultimately it's all one. It's all one. So it's giving me a spirit of patience, peace, and joy with the guys around me. And so I'm just, I'm thankful. I'm thankful to be here. But being quite honest, I just, I know for a fact I wouldn't be where I'm at right now. And I know on the outside looking in, you know, I asked like, you know, where are you right now? But I wouldn't be where I'm at right now if it wasn't for my relationship with the Lord. And so I really came into my life and you know, changed around for the better. G, what did you see from Ben and Christian last year? How did you know that suspension? How did he work through that? Yeah, I think he did a great job. A lot of perseverance. I think that's no matter who you are, we're kind of hearing news like that. You're going to be out for a year, that's hard. No matter where you are. I'm really proud of him because he came up and he came to show up every single day.

And he got better. He got better. The easy thing to do in that kind of situation is throwing the towel. I'd be like, man, you know, forget this or I'll get better next year. But I saw the drive at him. One thing I see now every day he showed up. He got better. And I'm proud of Ben and I'm proud of this unit. Why is the question of seeing Mike and Christian? I don't know. I don't really know how to answer that question because if you go from one unit to another unit, the moment you train units, you're no longer in the unit you are initially in. So you're now a tight-end. So I mean, to answer that question, I think the time that I went from in the receiving it to the tight-end unit is the moment I became a tight-end. I can't see it. I can't see it. I can't see it. I can't see it. No, no. Kevin Wilson was my coach. Wilson was my coach. Coach Hollin was my coach and I was a receiver. It's just different. It's two different roles.

I'd say to answer that question. The moment that I decided to come to play tight-end is the moment I became a tight-end. And so now over the years, I've gotten better at playing in the position. But the moment that I transferred over, I've been a tight-end and I'm excited to be a tight-end. Another position I'd rather play. Go buck us. Thank you, G. You're welcome. Yeah. Leaders and how we want this offense to look like in some of the ideas that we may have as well. So it's been a really cool transition. You talk about the transitions. Your third offense in three years, probably your fourth and sixth years. Yeah. How do you not kind of build up some barriers? Yeah. Man, I got to do this again. Right. I think, you know, human nature is always a factor in whatever you do in life. But I think I try to make a conscious choice of coming in with a new year mentality each and every year. And I think it's easy because we've had so many changes in. It's been great working with Marcus and Jaden and Jeff and Sam.

All of everybody. Like, it's been great working with all the quarterbacks. And I just have a mentality of not really being complacent. Like, I try to really focus on the things that I can come back better at this year. And I've been working my, my butt off to do that. So I think the easy thing, and when I was younger, you're like, dang, like, you just want that consistency. You know what I mean? Like, you want that something you could depend on, but like life isn't, life isn't always like that. So I've been reinvigorated because of just the energy that DQ brings into our building each and every day. And the coaches as well. Like, it's fun competing. You know what I mean? Sometimes I could get lost in the grind, but I think the reason why you make it here at this level is because you, you fall in love with the competition of it. And I think the competition breathes the success because that is really where you, the iron truly sharpens iron. So you know, other guys are going to make plays, but when you get excited to go in there and know that the next day we're going to go right back after the defense.

For myself, I'm just looking forward to continue to grow with the quarterbacks that we have. I mean, year six now, which is extreme blessing and leader, one of the leaders in our room. And I just try to take the bull by the horns with that. And so that's really been my focus. And you know, I'm excited for another year. To us, it's looked like you're being more vocal on the sideline to help young guys. Exactly. Something you decided this offseason or? I think that's been a part of my maturation process as a leader. I've always seen myself as somebody that was a leader by example. But from coaches and other teammates I've had over the years, guys like to hear what I have to say for whatever reason sometimes. And I think the biggest thing where I've tried to figure out where I fit in with my vocal leadership is I never wanted to be like a dictator. I mean, I never wanted to tell guys what to do or be a yellow or things like that. Like when I say something, I wanted to have power. I wanted to have meaning. And I hope, you know, the guys would feel the same way if they were to ask them that question.

Because I want to see all these guys win, man. Like it's hard to make it in this league and stay in a career. And so anyway, I could help the receivers, the DBs. I'm talking to some alignment. Johnny, who's rehabbing his foot. You know what I mean? Like everybody has a role and everybody has a different story and path. And so if I could share what I've been through my testimony to help them or do things that kind of slow down the process, I'm going to try to do that because we need everybody from the rookies to the 10 year vets to make this thing work. So more so I try to speak to what I know. And really those honest conversations that I try to have with guys, what they know I'm coming from a good place. I think I'm not the type of guy where I'm just going to talk at them. Like if they see something like I could take a coaching point from Luke McCaffrey. I could take a coaching point from Deami from Jahan from Marcus from anybody. You know, like I think that's what makes you a great player when you can really be coachable from anybody and not take it from a personal standpoint.

Hi. Hi. Good. Going back to what you were saying about Cliff and Vince, how is he as a teacher in teaching all of us? Yeah, I mean, I think he does a really great job of making things simple, first and foremost. He doesn't overcoach. And I think that's the trust that he has in our group and his coaches, our position coaches to fill in the details. So we'll have an install meeting and it'll be a good amount of time. But then our position coaches will have time and we'll make it specific to that position. And so then we'll come in and have a walkthrough. And then after that we'll have another walkthrough. And so I don't think there's been a time where I've come out here and I'm kind of worried about what I got. You know what I mean? And when you get into certain offices, there could be so many details where you could be overwhelmed. And I think then it forces, it kind of separates guys in a sense that like one guy may study more than another guy. But when you have these, these sessions that we have where we're having installs in the morning, we're having two walkthroughs and then we're coming on the field and doing it. I think you notice a lot of guys are playing a lot faster and more confident because he's keeping it simple.

But also he's very particular in what he's expecting. But it's not a lot. So there's not a pressure of to get it right. But at the same time, you know it's expected of you and you know you're going to have the tools given to you to be successful out there on the field. And this offseason, just the totality of change. Front office players, coaches, the turf field. What does that been like for you just to see what's going on? It's been fun. You know, I think from Mr. Harris and the entire ownership group down to Adam Peters, down to DQ, down to Jada, who he drafted and bringing in Marcus and Jeff and all those guys. Down to leaders, we have on our team. I think it was extremely specific on the way they tried to build this thing going into this year. First, having the right people, bringing in leaders, bringing in guys who love to compete. The first thing that DQ said when he came here was, and his first meeting, like, if you love to compete, this is going to be the place for you. And I love it. You know what I mean? I love bags and going at it with the DVs every day.

Like the little mundane stuff can seem a little boring. But I think that was where you make the gains during the offseason, where you're really focused on. I'm going to give all I got for this day, and I'm going to get better, and then I'm going to learn from the film and come back tomorrow and ready to do it again. And he also understands the benefits of having breaks. He's given us breaks. We've had weeks off here and there that we can compose ourselves, but then come back and give it all we got. You know what I mean? And when you got a coach that understands the physicality of an entire season, where you guys do need breaks by the same time we're going to get after it. It makes it fun as a leader because you can take that to your room and be like, yo, we got these, we got this week, you know what I mean? That's extremely important, but you know we have this little break coming up, where you're going to get your your money, your body, your soul right. So coming into this season, I'm really optimistic of what we can be this year. And I think it started with the foundation that the ownership group and the entire staff has built. And now it's on myself as a leader to continue to hone that in into the locker room.

But I think it's great because we have so many great leaders from all across the league who have won and we got Bobby Wagner in there. You know what I mean? I asked a hall of fame or so like, you know, being able to have kind of guys like that that you can lean on that can sometimes take over that leadership role where it doesn't fall on one person. I think it's extremely refreshing and knowing that everybody's on the same page and the message is the same allows you to go out there with confidence and always expect to know you. Terry, you seem to spend many of your off seasons learning about things beyond football, hobbies, what have you, did you do anything this off season so far? To hobbies or increase your knowledge of this the world around you? That's a good question. Play a lot of golf. That day just keeps my competitive juices flowing. Planning the wedding. That's going well. And I mean, I've just been grinding like, honestly, you know what I mean? I've been hungry this all season.

Like, I started working out, you know, pretty early and you start to see guys like coming back and it's just fun to like to be here and compete in the world. Like to be here and compete and feel like everybody's on the same page, you know what I mean? And so for me, I'm a grind every off season, but just this one just feels like it's the start of something new and special. And the foundation of is extremely important and to be a part of that to have a hand in that, you know, it's an honor. And I put a lot of expectation on myself to come out here and be the guy that I know I'm capable of and also like taking the next step and being somebody that our quarterbacks that can trust and believe in. So this off season was pretty simple for me. It was just really about, you know, working and grinding and getting better. He talked about Jayden before. I know we haven't seen everything, but in terms of his arm strength, the throws, he's making anything surprising so far about the types of his ability in that regard.

Definitely. I think after the second and third crosser that he threw, I started telling receivers like, hey, you gotta get your head around. You know what I mean? Because again, each quarterback throws the ball differently and sees the field differently. So sometimes on crossers, a lot of quarterbacks may like to see you cross the ball and get into that open zone over there. If it's man flattened off, they like to see you get open for him. He has a really good anticipation over the middle of the field where he can make those throws and give you a chance to catch and run. And he's really accountable too. Like we had a play today where he felt like he missed me and, you know, it's not a big deal at all. You know what I mean? Him and I can talk to those things and there's been a play that I've talked to him about. I could do a better job. But again, like that open that open form of communication from a rookie, I think is very rare. And I think it speaks to the confidence he knows who he is, but he's also not afraid to say when he's wrong. And he knows he needs room to improve. But his touch on the deep balls is amazing. You know, I love getting extra reps after practice with him. We're just catching the top end of a deep ball.

As big for me, you know, I mean, I get to track the ball over my shoulder and as big for him to be able to get used to dropping the ball in the bucket. But he just naturally has an ability to throw the ball. He sees the windows really well. Now he's just, you know, continue to get adjusted to the speed in the past rush. I think he's these reps that he's getting are unbelievable during 11 on 11 because he's getting the field pain and all in and DA and Cleveland Farrow. Like we got some dogs up there who are going to come after him. You know what I mean? And we got some great guys up front who are going to protect them. And so these reps I feel like are even better than just seven on seven. Seven on seven. I think he could do it in the sleep to be fair. Like he throws the ball really well. When you get this 11 on 11, two minute drill, you're putting them in game like situations. And I'm looking at them in his eye. I'm like, we play real ball now. Like we we we playing. You know what I mean? And you just see no no anxiousness in his game and his demeanor, which is extremely exciting. And then, you know, he's extremely lighthearted and he's always smiling. So he's joking with lime and D line. He's just cool with everybody. And like I said, like for a rookie quarterback to come in like that where guys are gravitating to him and he's not afraid to be who he is.

That's dope. I think he has a bright future for himself. The tough losses, the tough seasons can weigh on a player. Sure. You're entering the prime of your career. J.A. kind of mentioned it last year. All he cares about is winning. He wants to win now. Is there a sense of urgency? You obviously always want to win. Knowing that, you know, you're getting to the prime of your career. Like you want to win now. Yeah, I think that's a fair question. I think, you know, you start to evaluate when you, I'm in year six and you know how fast it goes. And I try not to put the cart before the horse. We're looking too far ahead by the same time. You do want to win. You want to be a part of a winning culture and have a chance to win a Super Bowl and playoffs and all those things. That's why we do this personally. And I'm just excited with being a part of an organization in an environment where now like everybody's on the same page in the message is uniform. And it speaks from the top down. And it reflects the guys that they're bringing in.

You know, all the guys that they brought in are guys who are hungry, who are competitors, who not only fighting for spots, but are going to help us win games. And when you're around an environment like that, like that, that makes you excited. It makes you hopeful. And, you know, you don't know how it's going to turn out until we start playing games. But the foundation is extremely important. And I think this all season we've really done a great job of building that. They have. And then when a coach, queen guy here building with this team. So I feel like we're going to be going into this off season really knowing what we all got to do individually become ready for camp. But the message is clear to come back to camp ready to compete and be ready to win. Thanks, Daryl. Appreciate you guys. Yeah, we're doing it. One of the funniest guys on the team right now. I think we talked earlier than we can try to balance out. We're not getting too high on your emotion.

How does that motivation for you show up on an idea that basically is more preparation, more film? What does that look like for you? Yeah, it's just really an edge and everything you do, I feel like. And, you know, carrying that kind of pissed off mentality. I mean, obviously not letting it affect you in a negative way. But, you know, making it, you know, reminds you, hey, like, I'm going to go the extra inch here. I'm going to, you know, see if I can find something extra on film late at night. Or I'm going to, you know, go over this sheet again, call a place one more time. All these little things that, you know, I just, you know, we just can't let that, what happened last night happened again. Earlier this week, I think it was talking about how you played back here football. You tend to be playing in the Rose Bowl. You know, you grew up in big 10th country. What does it mean to take part in this game? What does it mean to you, to kind of grow them up? It's a ton, man. It's crazy that, you know, that God has blessed me and put me in this position to be here and be the quarterback in the Rose Bowl. You know, a game that I grew up watching every single year.

Some unbelievable games that I've watched in the Rose Bowl, some classics. And just to be a part of it is a blessing. And I think we're all, we're all humbled to be here. And we're all understanding of how unbelievable this opportunity is and we're not taking it lightly because, you know, again, it's a business trip. And, you know, the only thing that we're looking at is, you know, we win this game, we go on to play in the Cup Bowl. You know, it's really exciting. It's crazy that we're here and that we're part of this, but you know, can't let it be too big. And just, you know, gotta go out there and play football and do that. I think so. I think, you know, you go back and watch the film and, you know, I just didn't, you know, and I'm hyper critical of myself. And I think we all are here. But I just look at it and I'm like, man, I don't think anyone this year beat us. I think we beat ourselves every time. And, you know, you watch and, you know, we had to turn over, you know, in our own 20-yard line.

And they got the kick. You know, that's a two-presentation, just the first half. And then, obviously, the way the game ended, like, you know, there, and we're still one point away. And that's what, what hurts, and it was a, you know, a hostile environment in their place. Now, I'm just, I'm just thankful that, you know, I said this, this is the other day, but I'm just thankful that we get to their opportunity. Do you feel like, you know, they're looking back the two weeks ago, you've been to Tennessee. You feel like there's a confidence about this, they may be one thing, you know, the two of us show that, you know, you put it all together. Yeah. What is your sense of the team from that aspect? Does it feel a little bit different? Yeah, I think, you know, a game like that, you know, in sales confidence, you know, as it shows us, we became a newbie. But you can't be complacency, and it can never be comfortability. It has to be confidence and drive. And that's what it has to urge us to be like, man, like, we can do this. When we play it our best, I don't know if it was anyone in the country that can hang with us, but we have to be on our game.

We have to make sure that, you know, we can't let anything go. A lot of people take this responsibility. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm a motion of this offense, which is a bit on the shoulder. What did you mean by the speed of the offense on my set? I just, you know, at the end of the day, I just want to keep the ball moving down the field, you know, getting in a rhythm. I think it's going to be big for us, and I think we did a really good job of that in Tennessee game. We're weathering storm a little bit early, and there are a couple of early calls that we got to build. It's not on that game. I mean, it kept us going, but regardless, we kept the drive going. And for me, keeping us on schedule, taking care of the ball, and making sure that we convert on third down in our situation we could. You know, if we do all that, all that stuff, obviously for me, and I want to be these guys, you know, and drive the machine because we got, when we're on our stuff, we're hard to stop. We just got to make sure that we finish our preparation, right? These last few days, and throw out there for our best reward room. Thank you.

Thank you for coming. Thank you, everyone. You come out this way. I'm talking about this, you know, just recently. Talking about how what I want to do for the runners, I want to bring that home energy, the He-Brow. Right? So last year, of course, I'm sure he's been doing for years, but the year when I spent my home, he brought a lot of energy, excitement, happiness in the room, which is his natural energy, to where I only had to focus on me. You know, I didn't have to make sure other guys were, you know, feels the type of way when it came in here because Hunt brought that. I've been hunting out here, but I saw when he did for a room, I want to be that guy to make sure I was an amptical to practice everybody's, I'm more taken to feel a team on period, you know, it's a low day, or something, you know, it's a bit sick, but like, I want to make it feel like it's going to be a pass to trick. I want to bring that, because that's what me and Hunt did to each other, we would have each other do something to do.

It's probably a walk, we're lit. So I want to do that, I want to bring that energy, I want to make bring more guys, you know, to do that. I want to do that from day one, you know, I kind of, I want to do that from day one, from talking to him, and obviously it's the time I spend, obviously it's the four OTA started. Just being in my self-just thinking about what the room needs, you know, because I know I knew well as one of years, you know, my offense is that we need a guy like that is going to make sure the O line is picked up. We're ready to go every day, I want to help a little things, or having a practice of people, or saying anything, and how I may lead, maybe different than somebody else may lead. You know, like to practice, at least like the legal positivity, you know what I mean. So, but he, the energy I would be on, just like, I'd be on, so I was kind of, I want to be going on, leading my whole life on the NFL.

Team captain, like specifically, I felt I wasn't a captain in high school, wasn't a captain in college, but I want to make a joke, I was in high school. I feel like I'm not going to be a captain like he's that I felt. But that would be awesome, you know, but you know, if it happens, I'd be great, but not either way. I want to assume a role as a captain from the perspective of guys on a team, the visual world, and get back in that point. Yeah, I mean, I can't say that, I mean, I guess the biggest thing is that I felt like I felt like I would use two in the past, but it didn't take just the first ALTAs, it took training and left and right. Once this season ended because I didn't know what was going to be the champion. So, it took a lot of, yeah, grips, just to get back to feeling like myself for the ALTAs, and then that whole first week, but now like today specifically, just changing some small things with my feet.

That is it, talking about the long coach, about some things I can do with my feet to get to that, to sell that traditional angle that I love to sit on. I thought I felt great already, but I felt even better. So I need more exercises tomorrow now, get my feet back, and how I like the right side and the left side. So, the wrong side. I mean, obviously I feel like in the league, whether I left or right, you're still going against Premier guys. So obviously, you have high expectations for your left hand or attack, but there's definitely like the level of energy. And like the expectations definitely take the human side. Because now, I can either blind side, that's the, that's the tackle world, you know. So, yeah, I would say in terms of communication as far as this, even outside of facility, and stuff like that, like really creating that, but tackle quarterback, and bonding more off the field, I think has been something that's even cool.

I got a text one day, and I said, hey, you put it up, I was like, you can't. Yeah, I've been training both, I've been training both. You know, I asked after the season, they're like, honestly, you know, we'll talk to you, still playing the season, and I just got a text one. And I was like, you know what, I had a whole season right tackle. So, if I get the word, I'm going, I'm standing right tackle. I did what I did before, I'm built on that. But I was like, I might as well as training the left tackle now, as if I'm going to be left tackle. And I'd rather do that than training the right tackle, good to call that air, and do the left tackle. I didn't even switch my feet yet. You know what I mean? So, I'm like, let me just prepare an advantage. I was like, yeah, it was good. I think occasionally, on third down, there would be a lot of twists, that was just not like it's automatic or common. And I think that was my mindset for like the first half of the season. Like, I didn't have to go into the game with some pros like, oh my gosh, they did that.

I kind of figured, okay, this is the type of rush, I'm going to get it. This is how this guy usually rushes. This is how the end is like the rush, you know, tackles that, you know, first year guys. We got the premier patch on already, you know, what it was going to be, already, you know, will be every stunt. And honestly, just knowing that's kind of an advantage to, so you're not, you're not, oh, they brought the twists on my side again. It was never air-dophied. Well, they come up and I was like, three plays in the world. Two minutes, I knew that, it was the one you had, and they said a lot of, you know what I mean? I'm watching more everybody else, and he rarely, he only goes out there occasionally, and I was like, you know, he's going to pick me. You know what I mean? So, that effect, it's kind of, it's also kind of an advantage in a way. But it's also exciting, like, okay, I'm going to get the hardest look. You know, those are real, real reps, you know, the things. Really, I went in kind of process, and I was like, hey, when they told me,

they'll let me know about, I'm just going to train it. I was training all left, so TAs, I guess if I didn't hear anything about TAs, I came in like, so, you know what I mean? Because just like, I'm cool with training both, continuing. I would have been cool with training both, continuing, but I feel like anybody, any position will be like, okay, like, you want to as soon as possible, give your feet kind of settled in, your hips settled in, your hands, so then, certain kind of that. Would it have been harder for you to work both, or how to use? No, you know. But they're definitely, but in terms of the development, they're definitely a lot faster, you're staying on one side. But I think having that, the weeks that we had to transition with seasons over, I'm delighted to respond. You know, look, I'm trying to get up, put them in the front any week, things out of town right now, but when it comes back, I'm going to show them to you on the house. I just got a house that's not too far from, so I told them I got that house, like, I got a yellow outside.

Like, these days. You know what I mean? So, yeah. My mom said, you know, just go out there, my dad just dominated the person I was confronting me. You know, just do what I've been doing for the last two to three weeks, I should say. But, you know, they play men on men, so I'm just ready for the challenge. Yeah. I mean, feels good. Just say somebody going out there and playing men on men, guess Ohio State receivers, it's something crazy. But, you know, we just ready for the challenge. They said they're not chasing their game plan, but we got to go out there and show them the reason why not the play man on men. Well, in the race and announcement of the month 2016, some reason I'm going to run right now. Sure, you're going to be the congressman. Yeah. I mean, I don't really, if I be on a curve, I be on a curve.

It's not really a big deal to me. It may definitely be a blessing for sure just to be on a curve of a game, but, you know, it's not really a dream of mine. It's a dream of mine, but I don't really think too much of it. I mean, no, not yet. Probably hit me after this season. No, just no playing in the Carlos football playoffs as a freshman, playing in the Rose Bowl as a freshman, playing in the Cardiff Bowl, not in the National Championship. I mean, it's a blessing for sure, but it hasn't hit me yet. How about with your fan name, can you say a favor? My favorite catch, I would say we play Michigan State on the one I call over to defenders. Definitely probably my favorite for sure. Or you go the one from Iowa, I should say, and then answer, probably them too.

I don't, I mean, yeah, like you said, it's pretty frustrating me having a game that I had in the Rose Bowl. They're coming to the Cardiff Bowl, you know, just doing different things, chasing their scheme up for, gives me. But I mean, like you said, whatever I could do to make the, I mean, help the team win. It's not really a big deal for me, as long as we win, that's all I really care about, and it got us to the National Championship. Right here. I have to talk to you about the 14th, and there's a lot of work in this season. We have highs, we have lows, we have people cutting us out, but we're here now, we just ready to put on a show Monday.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. First of when is National Championship because there was means a lot. I mean, you see everything that he bent through this year, people saying he should be fired and this is not the third, but, I mean, you see everything that he bent through this year. I mean, I see everything I have been through this year, see everything, people saying my hem on Twitter. I wasn't here, he first got the head coach and job, but I know this year for sure, we definitely got to win this for him. I mean, it's a lot of people in the league, I should say, I can't really say who, but I mean, you had guys like Odell, you had guys like Odell, you had Stephard Dicks. It means a lot of Michael Thomas Chris Carter, just a lot of, you know, guys I played in NFL and stuff like that, but yeah, really them guys for sure.

We'll just keep going. You got it, you've messed up for sure. Really, I really appreciate that. So, like physical defense, like you said, like people say, like they like to play man, they're not changing their scheme. So we're just ready for the challenge. Like you said, the best defense we probably go see all year, and we just gotta be ready to go out there and run down, just put on the show. I'm excited for Will, him first coming here in Ohio State, January, our first workout we had together, just everything that we did through this season. I mean, I'm just happy for Will for him to be in this position right now, but we got to finish the job and that's the winning idea on Monday.

I mean, it's pretty funny. Um, them saying that because I'm just only a freshman, but I mean, it's a blessing for sure people to even say that, but I got two, three more years left for cars. And I'm just focused on cars right now. I'm not really worried about the NFL right now. It's very special for me. Just being a freshman and playing the national stage, like appearing for national titles, something that I dreamed of as a very young kid. I'm just happy to be here and I just can't wait to put on some Monday for you guys.

I mean, all of us, we'll just sit on the bench and we'll just see him hit the quarterback the ball come out and we all just got up and just started jumping up and down. We all decided. I'm happy for jacking that moment and we just knew that that moment like, you know, this we want to the daddy for sure. I mean, it shows a lot of me going from high school or when the three state championships, I saw my daughter then coming to Ohio State, just appeared for national title right now. I mean, just so that I put two great schools, but I'm happy to be here and I just can't wait to put on some Monday.

The coolest person. I mean, you got a lot. I can't really say just a specific person. You got a lot of great guys. We trying to lead like Odell. You have guys like Stefan Deeks. A lot of other players will just get cut off my mom, but really really them two guys will show Odell a step on this. Yeah, yeah, I mean, like they say, they play man. So I mean, I'm just ready for the challenge and just get ready to go out there Monday and just no putting us up. Thank you. We're going to back. The vice Geno high gave me. I just keep golfers. I know the reason why I'm here. I mean, like he said, just keep golfers and just no keeping the maintenance and the best corner I faced this year.

I mean, I've faced a lot of great corners. I can't really say, but yeah, I've faced a great lot of great corners. I can't really put a name on it. I'm a great vacation. My dream vacation is a third of the cake goes. How good are you? I say both respect and frustration as well. But I mean, I thought they come out there and triple teaming me and they say stick it to what they've been doing our year and that's playing man covers, which is ready for the challenge.

Pretty good group Christian, great 29th, a great corner, 15, Lennon more, two great guys are right there. Very physical, but you know, we'll highest never see what's up. We ready for the challenge. I say just no understanding the defense, understanding the game plan, understanding what Coach Kelly is trying to get done. I mean, just coming in, I felt I progress from our first game against Akron to now. I feel like I better each and every week. I mean, being slowed down a lot for me.

But yeah, really just no understanding, Devices and no understanding what they're trying to do to me for sure. Two guys, great part of the best we go see all year for sure. Two physical guys. But you know, we're ready, we're ready for the challenge that they're coming with and that's the play man no man. And you know, we ready to go on Monday. I mean, environment is pretty crazy. See in all these cameras. Certain I never thought I'd see them alive, but it's a blessing for sure this the main exposition right now. I mean, we just had a prayer, prayer, prayer, a prayer meeting and you know, we all they all just we all discussed the issues because they discuss issues and you know, we just want the work.

I mean, that two and a half weeks we had off before Tennessee game and we just came out there on Tennessee game and we played with a trip on a trip on our shoulder. All throughout the playoffs and we go continue to play with that trip on our shoulder in a national championship on Monday. Do you know how to very impactful. Yeah, the very impact on my career, I should say, you know, just going to his games. I was a very young kid, seven, eight years old. I'm playing with him. I'm playing for West Virginia. They played Clemson Orange, both down in Miami. I mean, just go there. They're seeing his games. It's like, yeah, definitely when the player stays and I can wait till I get to know that moment for sure. I'm going to go to the stadium. You are you. Because they really just in his own his own love space. He's just walking around trying to get his mind right trying to get his mind ready for the game.

But you know, he just gave everybody hype in the locker room and just trying to get us ready to go to win the game. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, for sure. I mean, you go play mangas Ohio State receivers. I mean, just be ready. Cause, you know, we definitely go come out there and know. Give our best. I mean, they said not to change what they do. So we're just ready for the challenge. The year ago this time. Not a year later. Definitely sometime my career college, but not my first in college, I should say. I mean, just to be able to be in this position right now, just a blessing. Just a young kid from Miami to be here. I won't take it for granted. I'm ready to go out there Monday and give him my all.

Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I was watching that game against was a Georgia. I believe. Yeah. I was in a game. I was pretty sick myself because I was actually committed at that time. So I mean, yeah, they left a bad testimony mouth. But I mean, we ready to go out there Monday to redeem myself and just put a show Monday. I mean, I just laugh. But you know, that's what they do. They're not going to change what they do just because we're Ohio State.

So, you got to go out there and put it on. Why not to play a man on man against us? So we just got to go out there and show them Monday. So, you said you. Sorry. My journey here at Ohio State, prepared me a lot for National Championship. I mean, just going through every night I've been through. Now, first guy here, all the Matt Jules, all the hard work guys that we had, all the hard practices. Just preparing all of us for this moment. And I'm just ready to go out there and give it up my all on Monday. Okay. Okay. Yeah. We just squeezed this. One or nine.

Two hundred. Me is big and strong. Yeah. Yeah. One hundred. One hundred. One hundred. One hundred. One hundred. One hundred. One hundred. One hundred. One hundred.

One hundred. One hundred. Oh, I mean, just we'll put in the ball in my area. And I just know how to make a play for them. Even though somebody was grabbing my face, I just know I still have to make a play because the ball touched my hand. So, I mean, just when the ball and the other thing, I have to make the play no matter how the ball comes at me. After a big game, I mean, we really, they really feed us Chick-fil-A or piece after the game. So it's really either Chick-fil-A or piece. So yeah, probably Chick-fil-A for sure.

Yeah. It went pretty good. Everybody just speaking with their thing is going right and what they think is wrong. Which is a lot of the older guys who are in their opinions on what we need to do to come together as a team. But, you know, that meeting definitely helped us in a big way because it helped us on the field as well. Because we played at a great football right now and we just got to do that one Monday. Yeah, it definitely got emotional. Can't really say what it really was said because it was played as only and coaches only. But it definitely some stuff said that people took and that's the reason we're playing the right way playing right now. Yeah, make help me a lot this year. Him being our older guy in the room.

Me and Carl are in the end as well. All the guys in the room as well. Me just a great guy as well. Very smart. Me and Mike just been a big part of the reason I'm having a season I'm having a good one because he's been a big. You know, older guy been there, been a lot of great guys in that room. Chris Alivegaer, Wilson, Marvin Harrison Jr. Jackson, Slick and Jibba. So he's seen all the Chris I've been through there. He teaches us the right thing and the right way and the buck out way for sure. I love it. That means they don't know what's coming out of the next. We got 12 personnel. We got 11 personnel. You can throw two of us in and throw one of us in. You gotta stop it all. What have you made of the quarterback? Not too much. I feel like they all come in here working. I feel like everybody's making their throws, making their passes and everybody making their corrections. When did you take away the last season? And you're the one that's standing in front of you? What did you take away from last season? And you got to take the ball and get it in front of you? When the next game, that was it. When the next game, go out there on Saturday, beat the man in front of you, and then came out with a message and checked their shirt and went to Venice.

The strict laws about improving the resident of the visual and the work that I missed first. I'm going to do everything I'm trying to do my game as well as I'm trying to come up and fill it on. We hear about either of the key roles not just for this group, but for the whole team. The street kids step up who has started to step up and realize their place. I feel like we've had leaders from last year that came back. I feel like we got new guys that stepped up into their roles and their roles and around the team. That becoming leaders. Being a leader, you always have to be vocal. You can have the same examples on the field. You can be vocal, do both. I was happy for you. I saw him on the extra work. Ball is ball. We come out here and play ball. He's out here doing a pro day yesterday. I just see him ready to make some real money. Do you feel like you're a different player now going into this year than maybe you were last year?

I feel like every year I've just improved on my overall game. Blocking and catching, just system wise. People used that word. But I feel like I'm just overall better. I came in here ready to go. How much does it push you when you're in a room with guys like Max and Will and Bennett that you know you've got to be on your game if you're going to get in the field? I feel like Arya is starting to hire every day. You come in and work and they go push me every day to work. Just like I'm going to do that. I feel like I'm going to play an actor's before that. It's now a crowded group. You got an actor's before that. I love more. I love Max. Max Claire, Max LeBlanc, both of them. What's your flashed in the time you're here? Is this the year or at all coming together? I feel like Arya was my year, but we're going to see this year. I'm ready to come out here and put on a show for the Bucket Nation. I feel like everybody on the field is ready to go put on a show. We're going to go back and back. You got to play quite a bit though last year, Tulane. What did you pick up from all of that, especially in a championship run?

You know, they were counting on you. I honestly just be ready at any time. You can be throwing in at any time. Just like I was. I probably had some rest while I was just throwing in. You got to get it done. If you don't get it done, they're going to find somebody who has to do it. I think we ask you this every time we get there. It's a few times a week. We're going to definitely see what you've progressed. As I tied in all of that needs. I honestly, over the spring and some of this, I feel like I've told them my body a lot. I got stronger in the way we were. I've also got a little bit faster so I can get in and out of breaks a little bit. And just the mind was part of the game. The middle part of the game. If you got even better in the end, how would you describe that? I said, yeah, the mind part of the game. Well, I feel like it's a lot more fun. I say the tight ends, we come in here. Five o'clock every other day. We go walk through more fun. We're just more students at a game now. We're like that.

Thanks. I feel like it was just a exciting play. I was the last lead on it. I was the very last lead on it. I don't go out. I came down with the kiss. So we did the first down. You know, it wasn't going well. Thank you. You're, but I still had a great rookie year. Six yards of carry. You know, things like that. I think it was like nine touchdowns, ten including the playoffs. And so there's always been like, all right, you guys let me show my talent trying a little bit like even when I had the knee. So I had the knee, right? A lot of people don't know. Like I didn't get hurt again whenever I got, you know, you got cleaned up. So I went down in 21, right? Had the injuries in the injury. And then came back later the next year. And I played the first few games and I just feel there was a lot of scar tissue in there. So I had to get it cleaned up. I didn't get hurt again. I could have played the whole year, but I got it cleaned up so I can feel like me.

And so after I got that cleaned up, I had the first two games back from the injury. I had over 120 yards rushing. Right? And then went on had great, great ending of the year. You know, 100 total yards in the play-all game. We lost, which I hate the most. Stas don't matter. Me. I want to win. But then come back the next year, hurt again. Like 20 killies. So two really unfortunate injuries, but that's just a guy's plan. You know, and I think that the storm is now over, you know, and I do think that I'll be able to shine a light to the whole world. Are you concerned that you have been labeled, you can't stand the truth? I could care less because I do, I do, I know this out there. As it should be, it should be. I got hurt two major injuries back, not back to back years, but you know. So I haven't been on the field as much as I should. That's true. That is true. But it's not like I'm having these little, little, little dinky injuries and sitting out.

It's something I can't control literally. So that's why I'm not bothered by it. Like, yeah, I am injury-pone. You can say that. You know, but I do think that the chargers are getting a guy that's going to be healthy from now on, you know, God will it. And it's going to be great. And I do think that it's going to be a great however many years here. When you've been on the field, you've been highly productive. Yeah. 5.8 hours of very average for your career. Like knowing that when you're out there, you're very productive. How much confidence does that give you that really all you need is an opportunity? All the confidence in the world, you know, the way I work. I want to say just from the numbers, but just the way I work, my work ethic, you know, and my relationship with Jesus is like I have the most confidence when I stop out there. Because I do know like if he grants me the health, it's over with. I don't think I'll be, you know, I think it'll be a great year or whatever. A couple of years, however many years, he grants me great help, you know, and I think just the work ethic, my prayer, and all that stuff, that's what help me have that confidence with the numbers will be there and they might be higher after this year.

You know, and it's crazy to think about it because I had six point yards or six yards per carry, you know, so we'll see. Oh, yeah, yeah, I play with Bradley. I play with him, you know, I know the Slater, I know all the guys, you know, and I'm excited. I think it's like I said earlier, it's a talented group. You know, we just got put together and win some games because that's what I came before. I wouldn't, I wouldn't say a part of the recruitment, but like whenever I decided I was going to sign it was great to have him in the room. Yeah, we're great. We have a great relationship. That's like my brother. I think it accomplished, it complimented each other very well. You know, he can do a lot of stuff too. You know, a lot of people think he's just power power power, but I think he has some other parts we've gained too, which it'll be great because I feel like I could do everything and when one gets tired, we can roll it in and keep rolling, win some games.

When you, the two of you are going, how do you think this is going to look, the work will be that partnership back there? I know. That's a hard question. How do I think I think it'll look beautiful? You know, a lot of people call this a passive league, but I think you got to run the ball to win the Super Bowl. You know, if you look at the team to win the Super Bowl, they can run the ball, they can control the clock. And so if we're both good, it'll look great. Beautiful. I would describe it as a great offense. I think he gives a quarter, he's going to give the quarterback a lot of options. He's going to give the running back a lot of options. He's going to give the receiver a lot of options. You know, and I think it'll be, I think it's going to be great. He's often going to be amazing. One thing that we talked to him, you know, is like, why are you going to build something good Russian offenses throughout your career, which everybody could. And you said that one part of it is just, you got to call the police, you got to call the run the police.

As a running back, how much confidence, how much you're safe and it doesn't give you a play call there, because you're going to stick with it and allow you and the offense to run the team to a rhythm of the group. It gives me a lot of excitement. You know, it's going to be, like I say, it's fun to play in his offense. And I think he does have some good things in the past game too, but like you said, he sticks with the run and that's that's the identity. You want to offer us an identity, right? You're going to be looking everywhere else to find your identity. You want to have it. And so I think his offense has that. And the guy he builds and puts in there, it compliments that I did see. So I think it's going to be great. You mentioned you're around a percent now, so you'll be full go for training. That's the expectation. Look, I ain't going to answer any of the four if it's up to me. Yes. Look, because I had this problem like two years, three years ago, I'm thinking I'm full go. I think I'm ready to go. And then next year you know, I'm on PUP. Like, hey, look, some stuff is above my pay gray.

But I don't know. Hopefully I can start. I think I'm ready to start, you know, the beginning training camp, but that's not up to me as I've learned. So I wouldn't say that I think I've been, I've been in some great organizations and I think this organization is a great organization. And the training staff is great. And so they just want what's best for me, you know. And they're, they're taking care of me, which that's what you want in an organization. And so that's where that comes from, which I appreciate it. Like, I really appreciate that. You know, because I'm a type of guy like I work really hard. So maybe sometime I'm blind to, you know, the danger of something, you know. So I appreciate it. But like I said, it's up to me. Yeah, I'm out there. But never know. Any frustration for you during the getting into free agency, you know, dealing with rehab and not, you know, having a full season of tape or production to go out there.

Is there any part of that where you're like, I wish I had hit the open market with a different situation. Yeah. I like it. I like how would I say this? I like it the hard way. But not, you know, I like it the hard way. I like it. I like trial and tribulations. So, I mean, the dice that I was given to roll was I was coming off a third Achilles. And that was, that was the Lord's plan. So it was beauty in that. Like, I was comfortable. I was like, there was multiple teams, you know, I wasn't, it wasn't like I didn't have any other team. But I was comfortable in sitting back and just enjoying the process, letting myself get fully healed. So whenever that team whoever I would sign with who now is the Chargers is going to get the best me, you know, and I think people all around the league know that like, okay, this guy, okay.

It's a high risk, high reward type thing, right? Not even a high risk, low risk because you, it's a business, right? So I got hurt last year. So not as much money and he's be throwing that. But I think everyone around the league knows that whenever I am on the field, the numbers don't lie. And so they know that and a lot of teams were like, all right, here, you can, we give you this, but we want you to be healthy. So when I'm healthy, it's going to be great. The chance that I've been giving here, I'm so grateful. And I know that's going to be, they won't be, they won't regret it. Are you the type of person that likes to prove people wrong? Like, you've done a couple things like a high risk, high reward, injury, prone, you know, like, are you the type of person that really tries to prove people wrong? No, I hear it. I see it. It's pretty cool. Like, you'll never see me unless I'm just like in a bad mood. You never see me like, oh, like, if I have a great game or a great year, like, I have this wonderful year, I ain't going to go back and, you're like, yeah, yeah, what happened?

No, because I don't care. Like, you're eventually see, like, I'm like, I'm a guy that's really good. So I ain't worry about that. But I'm proving myself right that I am one of the best in the league, right? So forget all the naysayers and people that talk about being injury prone, because whenever I have this great year, it's going to be forgotten, you know, too. Why, why give that energy? Talking just into the all our kind of chances. Yeah, I was, you know, we just with him, you know, he's a great guy. I mean, he was in my class. I remember seeing him and we were at an award show, because I was a dope walker or a finalist. And I'm like, I've seen him play, but I didn't know he was that tall. Like, I didn't know he was like six. I was at first on this was years ago in college. I'm like, I am this is pretty tall. Like, it's cool though. Like I like, I never really got to, I know a lot of those would be kind of, you know, you know, nerdy, they're ways. He's cool to really.

But no, we'll face to him. It's just because like the last three years, you've been disappointed at the end of the season. So I feel like we put more work in. I think that's what we're missing. We're just putting more work in and you just got to do that throughout the summer, the spring fall. And then you've got to show it on the field. You're still in a mold. You're a practice. You look at it through all of the deep. And you look at the person L change, we're failed coming in with sunny woman up in the postural line of spring with all the guys. You come back. What's your like view of what's out there on defense and how it may be a while to do some things. I don't want to like, high part has too much, but I kind of look like a legendary defense kind of. I feel like we got playmakers everywhere and then moving sunny down. I think that's a great move for him. He's a big athletic dude. He can play in a box. He can play like safety. I think that's just showing how like versatile he is. And Caleb, you know, he's using Caleb how he plays.

He's an animal. He's only a sophomore, I think. And I feel like the guys we brought back, you know, we all can we're all dominant. So I feel like as a collective unit, we're going to be like unstoppable. So confident is a problem. No. Well, there's a part of that too. And as I mentioned, they're about pacing yourself. So if you get there's that much self belief, then there's also that part of going to build depth. You know, KHF injuries, KHF injuries. So how do you look at spring in terms of getting guys that are next to us as prepared to keep that standard high? I think you just got a set of great example for the young guys and just showing them how to how to practice how to like watch them, how to take care of their body. Because those are the things you're going to need to like go on this deep run. I think it's like 17 games or something that we're not. We add in games. So the young guys are going to have to play. We can't just play fit the games. It's not that's not going to happen. So. Oh, you did. How do you get to a 70 or 80? It's going to keep working kind of keep running.

Give me shape. You played so many. You know what's kind of surprises me that you said you said that was a joke. I'm sure. But like surprising to hear that. It's a real homies after you played last year. Did that kind of take a toll on you last year? Do you think that you need to push it even further getting better shapes so you can play all 16 17 games? Yeah, definitely. I got to get way better shapes than I've been. And I feel like it was kind of like it was a joke. Of course, I needed those snaps because the years before I wasn't really playing as much. So I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt. So I can bring younger guys with me because I've been through a lot of. One of those younger guys we're seeing it out here. It's the first time I've heard all of your last years. What have you seen from Lowe? I kind of felt like last year we all forgot about it because he was hurt. Now he's running almost a second man up behind you and Ty. What have you seen from Lowe? Well, it was a workhorse. He go stay quiet. He go work hard.

And that's what I love about him. He focuses. He don't really talk much. He's going to get a job done. Do a job right. Rarely has any mistakes. So what would be a successful season? A national championship. I'm reading when all the games we want to lose into things. We got a mindset that we can't be beat. And we just got to go show it. That mindset different. It seems like you guys expect a national championship every year. This year even more so you guys all come back for this. You guys have all decided like an opposite. Is that this is a feeling difference? Or is there not really any difference? It's just the same work. It's definitely a difference. Everyone working harder. We noticed our last run. Most of us don't have any years after this. So we got to go bigger, go home and we're not trying to go home. Finish big. We know what you guys think of Michigan. But when you look at what they did, they won the national championship. And you guys took them down to the final minute. You know what I mean? You were right there. Something goes a little different.

You guys could have been one that came against them. Does that tell you anything about like that? Hey, you guys want to win a national championship. But you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year. Like you're that close. So I'm saying we just like work harder. That's kind of coach makes a saying. You know, nobody cares. Just work harder. Like those, you know, we'll play Georgia. The same thing. Yeah. Last, last play. You know, they went on the winning atty. So we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine. How frustrating is that? You're that close against the last two national titles. Of course it's frustrating. But you can't change the outcome. You can't really dwell on it. You just got to come back and work harder. Do things better than you did last year. And hopefully the outcome will change. Is that as you get older, you kind of learn. I thought I was working harder than you always find out there's a little more. Yeah, definitely. I mean, that's what growing up is basically in college. I thought freshman year I was working as hard as I could. But now I look back at it.

I really wasn't working hard at all. I'm ready to what I'm doing now. So just to learn anything. If the stamina is a 16, then the answer to like, what do you need it to be to be your best? Uh, it is a 75. It's only a 85. 80, 85. I mean, I can, it's all on me. I just, I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny. But I mean, it's all on me. I just got to run harder in shape. So I, the stamina, I did you get the heart rate. It's been a fact. Yeah. The idea of a concentration is 16 and 7 and 8. I think, I think we, I definitely can last. I was just, you know, we got to get the young guys that come along with us. We can't play 50 snaps again. That's just too much on our bodies. Just everybody's like, online, D line. We got to get those younger guys to play, you know, get that pieces on the D line and the online and everywhere else. So we can last that long. Speaking of that, let's get my job. Did you like playing that many snaps again last year because I don't know. I don't know if any of us were really expected this for that next time. Yeah, I did.

Unless we were like winning by like a lot. I thought like there are no moments, you know, I can go sit down or something. But we're playing them big games like, you know, Northern, D N 2 or North, those kind of games. Of course, I want to be because I know I can contribute. And I want one put that on me. I want to be a little bit more, but I want to be a little bit more. I want to be a little bit more. I want to be a little bit more, but I want to be a little bit more. I want to be a little bit more. I want to be a little bit more. And I want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done. Well, it stands out about Kaden McDonald and he got it. You guys in a second. Oh, yeah, definitely. K-Mac is a K-Mac animal. You haven't really seen it yet, but in practice, he shows all the time. He's just, he's growing right now. He has to work, I think. He just has to get, you know, in the playbook and things like that. You guys are about the exact same size. Listen, you're both listening to 6-3. You're 3-27. He's 3-26. Yeah, I kind of look at him like my junior, but you know, K-Mac, he's going to be a great player. He's just got to develop more and get into playbook. So really a lot on you, older guys. There's that large group of young guys and then there's the seniors in the back.

Is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys along as well? Yeah, definitely. We've got to be leaders. Like I said, we've got to have them play this year. We can't just play all the snaps. They got to get in there and get some work. And we've got to get them right, earn all season. So they can play. And I just played. They want to like contribute, like make plays, tackle, and sex. Let's stay down about this. It seems like these guys get bigger. Each one of the freshmen class is a little bigger or bigger. Do those guys kind of while you're in the cell? Yeah, they're definitely some big dudes. And they all work hard. I've only seen much of some of the day too when I'm a pastor. But throughout the workouts, they've been working hard. They're determined. I can say that. And it looks like they're ready to work at Miki. I'm going to support this, though. It feels like there's a lot of great defense that you have big, athletic defense attack. So you can eat up space, but also move right to this battle. Because I have a requirement maybe from a great defense to have guys like you that have some balls.

But also a great feature. I think that is definitely. I think if you look at the last couple of national championship winners, like Team up North, they got two good, uh, detacled two athletic detacles. Look at Georgia. Two athletic detacles. I think that's definitely neat if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams. If you think about this, if there was a fight by the defense attack, it was like, what's Jordan Davis and Daniel Carter? What's Michigan is? Chris Jenkins. I mean, you understand it because you play it. But I feel like some time, I don't know, I think our people realizing how important defense tackles are. A little bit more than they used to. I think so. I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freakiest detacles. Yeah. Like in the combine, just now, you see in like those guys, they're moving four to four, seven, eights and things like that. So we'll see. And when you think about this freakish attack, how do you think you fit into that ball with that kind of player?

You watch that and say, yeah, that's me. Yeah, definitely. I think I'm top notch when it comes to detacles, but I don't want to, you know, get a big head, but you know, watch it come on. I watch it do the drills. I have tape here. You're like, look at my, my film. So I think I'm up there with all those guys. You can become like a artist or something that passes the way. I think your way is how you think. When you're going, you're not doing as much a level of 11. That's strong. How do you work on that? Do you have like a goal one, mine? I don't remember how many Adlasts you're like, you haven't got one. I mean, as many as I can have, I think I have more than that, but I think they're counseling. I think they're counseling some of them. And it's some of them where I like just listed. So, but I think we work on drills matching the hand. I think that's goes big and what we do is a D line, you know, just affecting the quarterback is, anyway, you can. It's just great for the defense. You know, just that little thing covering his eye, you know, he might throw it. A little bit to the left to our players. So, it's something that you really, really have to work on.

And what it is, it's really that's one of the things that you can maybe work on the most. You can bring your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen. Like, oh, that pass through the back of the deck. We don't have to ask. We kind of kind of expected for the people. I think I just have like an eye for the ball kind of. I kind of just look at the quarterback and just, I see him like load up. I just try to get in his ways. And sometimes he just throws it to me. I hear it's even if you want to be on the state quarterback. I'm going to back down fastest. I mean, they get frustrated by, you know, we're a team, you know, we're just getting better. Big time to grow, you know, you don't have to have the pig mentality of problem of instant gratification, you know, you can develop and grow. So, and sometimes you may be behind a guy that's a really good player. There's nothing wrong with developing and growing and playing when your time is right. And if the time is right right now, the freshman, like, what's your main? Did you play early, you know? So we try to also sell that, you know, we care about him as people and try to prepare you for life after football.

So it's bigger than just football. We're going to prepare you for life. Whether it's the NFL or on with a regular career in the workforce. We want you to prepare you as a young man and we try to sell that and preach that to the parents. With the remaining having that impact, you mentioned, growing all these different spots. Do you anticipate, you know, there wasn't a lot of rotation among the cornerbacks last year when everyone was healthy. Do you anticipate maybe growing him through the rest guys here with the longer season potentially? Yeah, we play it about here. You know what I mean? We see how goals by time we get in the camp, but you know, obviously he's earning his stripes. So, you know what I mean? You earn your stripes, you know, a lot of job to create opportunities for you. You know what I mean? We have to see how it goes with all the other stuff. You know, once we get closer to the season and we're getting the game plan stuff. But he's doing a great job and he's taking a great step forward. Tim, when you're the way that you've been building the room, or the way you've kind of established your room now, it seems like it's been like the centerpiece of contemplation and kind of building bonds. But I'm curious, is that something that you came in, put the, like a couple years ago,

with the intention of doing it or is it something that you're like, that's kind of been cultivated over the course of your Thomas position, both here and the guys who? No, it's been there for a while. I've been doing that for a long time. It's all about relationship. If you develop real relationship and you're authentic in your communication and you have honest feedback and you have direct teaching, the guys that have a value and character and they appreciate that stuff, they're embrace that. So, but they have to know you care and you have to know that it's real and they have to know that you're really concerned about there. We're being as a young man and when you get close to them, it's been a lot of time with them off the field. You could coach them hard. And you can say truthful things to them and then they embrace it and you can have real conversation because you know, the only goal is to help them get better as a young man. As you see, computers go. The numbers are told that the receiver really so far ahead of the border is going to kind of skewed that evaluation sometimes. How's that dynamic change in these two years? That the scoop's gotten older and you've been bad at even more counting? Yeah, it's done balanced up a little bit now. That goes with great competition. We have the, we go against the best receivers in college football.

So that helps escalate your growth process. Because if you don't figure it out real fast, you're getting embarrassed. So that competition, but what happened with that, I guys start competing. I guys start growing. I guys got better and now is even up a little bit. So where you get really good work at practice today, you know what I mean? So as competitive, it's fun. Those guys both on both sides of the ball care about each other. So it's great competition and they all are real close. So you know what I mean? It's that stuff that gets us better that will prepare us for Saturday. I didn't tell him that same idea. Well, like first day practice actually the receivers kind of got them. Is that any kind of a good way to call me for this? No, it's just, it's going to competitive, man. They got the best group in the country that you're going to get every day. So you have to bring it every day, you know what I mean? So we got a great quarterback room. We got a great receiver room. The running backs are really good. So when you out there going against them is deep. So you have to be ready for it. Obviously, man, we're seeing a lot of good stuff with what they ain't coach Kelly doing over there.

And so it prepares you a lot and it helps us grow. So why do you really play kind of an associative for green victory? Is that? It's your green or a wide receiver room kind of a part of your green pitch. Like these are the guys you get to play against. Yeah, all of that's because you know, that's where you get better. Iron shop is iron. So you know, you get to see that every day of practice that helps you grow. It's no better thing to go against every day than to see that. On a daily basis. I'm also near room massage storage. Looking at it to play that nervous. We just moving a lot of guys around. If you watch that practice, we have a lot of guys in there right now. You know, we probably have three or four different guys in there. Obviously, Lorenzo's in there, Jameen is in there. Kyle Miles, we have about four or five guys moving around. Right now, we just try things out in spring ball. See what it fit. You know, see what things work together. So it's probably some more guys in there. You know, we move it around to try to just get the right fit throughout the N and C. How it goes by time we get really start the season. What's in and out about Kyle? What's in and out of Calvin? He can run any strong. You know what I mean? He's fast.

Very serious about his business. He's big. He's 200 pounds. He can run. He's strong. He's conscientious. You know what I mean? He's starting to grow and he's starting to get better with it. You know what I mean? So we look for big things for him in spring. Tim, what do you want to see from here in spring? Keep competing. You know what I mean now? He's made the transition. Competing the day. You know what I mean? Start going in. Now that transition is all just like how I'm in your main last year. You throw them in the fire. You let them go. You compete. You go by the time we get out of the end of training camp. You'll be them figured out. Yeah, I want that. But now you just throw it all at them. Compete. Continuing to grow. Continuing to learn. He has the skill set. He has the length. Now you just got to put it all together and it takes time to do that. And hopefully you see that by the time we get into training camp. It seems like it went through springing kind of clip for your main last year. And you start seeing. Perform a little better in practice. Is that like a benchmark for where you want to be by the middle of spring? Does he have to be in a certain point where you wanted to start clinking? Yeah, by the time you start getting about two weeks from now, that last week. You know, because it takes time. There's a lot of stuff going on. But you know, by the time you get into that last week of spring ball,

you'll start seeing the things that you look for show up. And then you get another evaluation again. We'll get into training camp. See if this stuff carried on to make sure we go up for our starting in September. What's your assessment of the growth of the week's old mate? Now that he's kind of got his few hundred or one defense. What do you like about him and that next one? He's very conscientious. He's smart. He can run. He's tough. He's made the adjustment because he's out of Europe on his belt. So now you can see he's not making a lot of mistakes. He competes. He's real conscientious. And he has a physical presence. So the growth has been really good. And we look to continue that throughout spring. Coach, thank you very much. I can ask one more. All the guys that came back like Denzel, the great example. Because that surprised you as you reflect on all these guys that came back late in the Ransom. And they could have turned pro. No, the culture here is real. Coach, they does a great job of building the culture. Our room is close knit. The guys on defense are real close. Those guys want to come back. They have an agenda. You know, we want to come back. They want to come back and walk away with something.

So it didn't shock me. But it's a good environment for them too. You know what I mean? That's when you see those guys come back. And they can't test them on until the culture that's set here. Their brotherhood, their environment. And of course, they run the program for those dudes to want to come back. Because we go at it. It's hard. It's not easy. It's not easy. But what we do. So, in fact, they come back and do that as a testament to how he runs the program. Thank you. Coach, Walter. Thank you very much. As far as intensity, how would you evaluate your games tonight? Yeah. My goal was just to come out play as hard as I could. It was a little weird last week. For the first time in my career, playing a game that doesn't necessarily mean anything in terms of playoff contention. And I kind of had to check myself. And this week come in with a mindset of every game matters. And we need to put the best product out there that we can. And that's what I try to do.

Later now, it was a good push. Or you looked at the look into your work and push up when you returned. You didn't seem shaken up right after you kind of just talked about what happened. Yes, Sam just tried to get it on it and caught me. It was more of like a stinger type thing. But the ref wanted me to go to the tent. So I had to go answer some questions. How many are home it? It was like jammed, yeah, my neck. You're like, you are home it. And then you've got a sort of a different helmet. How do you? Yeah, maybe. When it hits the top like that, it's not as good. I think these guys 11 months ago kind of crushed their dreams. Do you get the sense they're kind of a different team? Or and also that they this was a very important game for them to win? I don't think they're that different. I think they've had a ton of injuries on defense, which hurts them. But the mentality of the head coach, you could see it throughout everybody. It's really a cool team.

I could just see from afar that it's probably a fun team to play for. And they've they've come out and they've played a win every game and I respect that. But it's put so much emphasis on the ball. All meetings take away. And I think you've got two since the last week. Is there any accounting for that? There's so many different things that go into a turnover. Take away how do you wrap your brand around that? It goes into every level of the defense. When you have your opportunity, I know we had two against Stafford. That could have made, I mean, if maybe if we get those, it sparks a bunch of other ones. So you just have to make your make your plays when they're there. And then just being being the right spots. And I don't think we've done a great job of that this year. The last cycle since the night the soul is all pro. Did you want that matchup?

Would you think about that matchup? It's good. He's a really good player. Yeah, I wanted to see where I'm at against him. Have you ever seen anything like the Jameson Williams touchdown or pop act to him? Have you seen something like that? It wasn't the tent, so I had no idea that happened. It was a play in this game when we saw a kind of a misdirection sprinted all the way across the field to make the play. Did you see the play? I think it was, was it the one Gibbs cut back? Yeah. Yeah, I had like a 10-yard cushion and he ran by me like I didn't exist. And I tried to sprint and I just just like I don't have this. And thankfully Mustafa is a heat seeking missile and he made the play. What was your mindset against my hand?

I mean, I think we came in with the right mindset as a team. Just myself. It felt a little like dead energy wise. But yeah, it was a learning moment for me to learn and make sure that I come in with the right mindset every single week. There's a lot of plays where you guys get to the finals, pass breakups, and it'll be like a couple plays in the row. And then there's an explosive about what can you believe in or on about the circumstances? Yeah, I mean, we did get them to the second, third and longs. And then yeah, they would make a big play. You definitely want to capitalize when you back them up like that. We didn't do that tonight and that's why they scored 40 points. I'm sure, yeah.

Oh, yeah, for sure. You had guys like Chris Carter, guys like Michael Thomas, really, them two guys for sure. Michael Thomas was talking to me before the game or the Rose Bowl, in Chris Carter, after the game as well. I mean, just giving me advice, just telling me keep going first and just keep doing what I've been doing the whole year. I mean, I'm got bug out legend. So definitely look at them guys for sure. Make sure to spare. It means a lot of me just to care for Miami, just being able to play an actual championship as a freshman, something that I dreamed of as a kid and I'm here now and is can't wait to put on the show Monday. He said he can't. I mean, the Tissues, you know, like he says, may crazy each and every week playing, but you know, can't, can't let it get to my head.

I should say, let me just football at the end of the day, but you know, just have to be in this position. I'm going to get my head on the ball. I'm going to get my head on the ball. Oh, none of us think we could be covered, man, oh man. I mean, we're actually talking about this yesterday as well, but you know, I mean, that's what they do. That's what they do. I mean, we just got God there, you know, play our game and know sort of reason why not to play, man, oh man. Two. Four. Three. One.

I go five. The ball. I'm on my mind says, you know, just go out there Monday. I just dominated the person I was confronting me. You know, just do what I've been doing for the last two to three weeks, I should say. But you know, they play men on men. So I'm just ready for the challenge. Yeah. I mean, feels good. Just say somebody going out there and playing men on men gets Ohio State receivers. It's something crazy. But you know, we just ready for the challenge. They said they're not changing the game plan, but we got to go out there and show them the reason why not to play men on men. Yeah. I mean, I don't really, if I be on the curve, I'd be on the curve. It's not really a big deal to me.

It definitely be a blessing for sure, just to be on the cover of a game, but you know, it's not really a dream of mine. It's a dream of mine, but I don't really think too much of it. I mean, no, not yet. Probably hit me after this easy. No, just no playing Carlos football players as a freshman, playing in the Rose Bowl as a freshman, playing a Cardinal, not in the National Championship. I mean, it's a blessing for sure, but it hasn't hit me yet. My favorite catch, I would say we play Michigan State on the one I call over to defenders, definitely probably my favorite for sure. Or you can go the one from Iowa, as I said, and then answer pardon them too.

I mean, yeah, like you said, it's pretty frustrating me having the game that I had in the Rose Bowl, and then coming to the Cardinal, just doing different things, chasing their scheme up against me. But I mean, like you said, whatever I could do to make, I mean, help the team win. It's not really a big deal for me. As long as we win, that's all I really care about, and it got us to national championship. It means a lot. We put a lot of work in this season. We have highs, we have lows, we have people cutting us out, but we hear now, we're just ready to put on a show Monday.

Oh yeah. First of all, the one that's national championship because there's a lot. You see everything that he's been through this year, people saying he should be fine, and this is not the third. I mean, you see everything that he's been through this year. I mean, I've seen everything that he's been through this year, see everything, people saying my head on Twitter. I wasn't here, he first got the head coaching job, but I know this year for sure, we definitely got to win this for him. I mean, it's a lot of people in the league, I should say, I can't really say who, but I mean, you had guys like Odell, you had guys like Odell, you had Stefan Diggs. It means a lot of Michael Thomas, Chris Carter, just a lot of guys that played in NFL and stuff like that, but yeah, really them guys for sure.

Just keep going, you got it, you've messed up for sure. Really, I really like for sure. Like physical defense, like people say, they like to play mad and not changing their skin. So we're just ready for the challenge. Like you said, best defense, we probably go see all year, and we just gotta be ready to go out there Monday and just put on the show. I'm excited for Will, him first coming here in Ohio State, January, our first workout we had together, just everything that we built through this season. I'm just happy for Will for him to be in this position right now, but we got to finish the job and that's the winning out of the Oman.

It's pretty funny, I'm just only a freshman, but I miss the bless of the show, people even say that, but I got two, three more years left for Carlos, and I'm just focused on Carlos, and I'm not really worried about the NFL right now. It's very special for me, just being a freshman at the National State, it appears for National titles, something that I dreamed of as a very young kid. I'm just happy to be here, and I just can't wait to put on some Monday for you guys. I mean, all of us, we just sit on the bench, and we just see him hit the quarterback in the ball, come on, and we all just got up and just started jumping up and down, we all decided. Happy for Jack and I moment, and we just knew that that moment, like, yeah, we're going to the ad for sure.

I mean, it's a lot of, you know, going from high school, or when at three state championships, I saw my daughter, then, you know, coming to Ohio State, just appeared for National title right now, and just so that I picked two great schools, but I'm happy to be here and I just came with the punishment day. The coolest person to reach out to. The coolest person? I mean, you got a lot, I can't really say just a specific person. You got a lot of great guys, re-challeling, like, O'Dell, you had guys like, Stefan Dicks, a lot of other players in the world just came to my mom, but really, really into guys for sure O'Dell, a Stefan Dicks.

Yeah, yeah, I mean, like they say, they play man, so I'm just ready for the challenge and just get ready to go out there Monday and just no putting us off. Thank you. We're going to go back over here. The vice-geno, how you gave me? I said just keep golfers. I know the reason why I'm here. I mean, like he said, just keep golfers and just no keeping the maintenance and the best corner I'm facing here. I mean, I've faced a lot of great corners. I can't really say, but yeah, I've faced a great corner. I can't really put a name on it. I'm going to give it a go.

My dream occasion is, Teres and K-co. How are you? I say both respect and frustration as well, but I mean, I thought they come out there and try to be mean. They say they stick it to what they've been doing all year and that's playing man covers, which is ready for the challenge. Pretty good group. Christian Gary 29 is a great corner. 15, Lennon Moore. Two great guys are right there. Very physical, but you know, we all highest they receive us, so we're ready for the challenge.

I say just no understanding the defense, understanding the game plan, understanding what Coach Kelly was trying to get done. I mean, just coming in, I felt I progress from our first game against Akron to now. I feel like I better each and every week. I mean, they ain't slowed down a lot for me, but yeah, I really just know understanding Devices and understand what they're trying to do to me for sure. I'm two guys great. Part of the best we go see all year for sure. Two physical guys, but you know, we're ready for the challenge that they're coming with and that's the play man on man. You know, we ready to go on Monday. I mean, the environment is pretty crazy. Seeing all these cameras. Something I never thought I'd see them alive, but it's a blessing from the service to me in this position right now.

I mean, we just had a prayer, prayer, prayer, prayer meeting and you know, we all they all just, we all discussed the issues because they discussed issues, you know, which is one of the work. I mean, that's two and a half weeks we had off before Tennessee game and we just came out there on Tennessee game and we played with a chip on our shoulder. All throughout the playoffs, and we go continue to play with that chip on our shoulder in that championship on Monday. You know how that very impactful, yeah, the very impact on my career, I should say, you know, just going to his games as a very young kid, seven, eight years old, him playing Westwood, him playing for West Virginia, they played Clemson Orange Bull down in Miami. I mean, just go there, they're seeing his games. It's like, yeah, I definitely want to play on this stage and I can't wait till I get to know that moment for sure.

Who are you? Oh, yeah, because they really just in his own, his own little space. He's just walking around trying to get his mind right trying to get his mind ready for the game. But you know, he just gave everybody hype in the locker room and you know, just trying to get us ready to go to win the game. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, for sure. I mean, you go play, man, guess Ohio State receivers, I mean, just be ready because you know, we definitely go come out there and know, give our best. I mean, they said not to change what they do. So we just ready for the challenge. I mean, just to be able to be in this position right now, you know, a blessing or just a yellow key from Miami to be here. I won't take it for granted. I'm ready to go out there.

I'm not going to say no. I'm not going to say no. I'm not going to say no. I'm not going to say no. I won't take it for granted. I'm ready to go out there. I'm not going to say no. I'm not going to say no. I'm not going to say no. I'm not going to say no. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I was watching that game. It was a Georgia. Yeah. I was watching that game. I was pretty sick myself because I was actually committed at that time. So I mean, yeah, they left a bad testimony mouth. But I mean, we ready to go out there Monday to redeem myself. And they'll just put a show Monday.

I mean, I just laughed. But you know, that's what they do. They're not going to change what they do just because we're a higher state. So we've got to go out there and put it on. Put it on. Why not to play. Man, no man. You look at me. Yeah. Okay. He said again. Sorry. My journey here at a higher state, we prepared me a lot for not just taking the shit, but still me just going through everything that I've been through. My friends got here all the materials, all the hard workouts that we had, all the hard practices. Let me just prepare all of this for this moment and I'm just ready to go out there and give it up my all my day

Okay, okay We just squeeze this Yeah 200 me is big and strong You know what's the one? Yeah, that's pretty good

Oh It went out part of like the Moses the one against Michigan State when I caught over two defenders on an S.I.L I put it out one or the one after that I should say or you go the one against Iowa probably them three probably my best ones for sure Oh, I mean just will put in the ball in my area and I just know how to make a play for them Um even though somebody was got my face. I just know I still how to make a play because the ball touched my hand So mean just when the ball and everything I have to make the play no matter how the ball comes out After a big game um I mean we really they really feed us chick-fil-a or piece out of the game. So it's really either chick-fil-a or piece. So yeah, probably chick-fil-a for sure

Yeah Uh it went it went pretty good everybody just uh Speaking with their thing is uh going right and what they think is wrong Um, which is a lot of the older guys what's in their opinions on what we need to do to uh come to get as a team Um, but you know that me and deathly uh help those in a in a big way because it helped us on the field as well Because we played our great football right now and we got to shoot out on Monday Yeah, it definitely got emotional uh can't really say uh what really was said because that's not prayer Players only and coaches only but it was definitely some stuff said that um people took uh People took and uh uh went with it and that's the reason we planned the way we planned right now Uh yeah make helped me a lot this year um him being our older guy in the room

Me help me and Carl Nell as well and Brendan and his and all the guys in our scene room as well Me just a great guy as well. It's very smart uh Me make just been a big part of the reason that I'm having a seat that I'm having a look because he's been a big you know Older guy been there been a lot of great guys in that room like Chris a lot of way Garrett Wilson Marvin Harrison Jr Jackson Smith and jib was so he seen all the grids I've been through there and me teaching us the right thing and the right way and in the buck out way for sure You feel underrated I don't know I feel like I was rated you know right So when I come out of there it's got to be different not me and uh I just feel like uh I had all the offers I think I'm not mean with obviously my head is like down like Her own work sites, but no it doesn't matter to me to hear enough. I'm gonna start I You know I feel good. I'm actually like an auto hard work and I On throughout the spring on the teaching ecology you gave me notice paid off

Like in the two deep as a true freshman outlayton of an opportunity to have a bigger role this year Second you know just working to beat you know, I mean Obviously Whatever with having these things or whatever you know this work and just to beat you know Work my tailhomes and you know make it all for my sanction. I can treat specifically Um, I got I would say like I got a lot more aggressive and I gave you know I gave some weight now Um pushing 200 pounds now You know Coach Patricia what have you uh No, he's a great guy, you know, I like him Oh, no, besides coach, he's a great guy. He cares about his players You know, obviously football wise and he's a master. I don't find this He is my respect given for ball business No, it's you know, and it's time being in that family so I think it's like

I expect you know just to add value you know former half of this team and just me players You feel a lot more Oh, yes for sure, I feel like I'm starting to use the everything here and I feel like I'm just trying to I was gonna say you know mindset at the beginning was spring Starting to scratch You know, you know, you have more ideas, you know so far so You know, we're trying to stay determined And I know just trying to dominate and we're not learning the past anymore. It's like everything happy to try to get a little I've seen no right now playing You know, no craft myself and just you know, I make myself more versatile for the team wherever I go They get to get some more

Limiting his reps And to him you'd be wearing a long-distance walk You know, I mean skipping skim back Thank you And so like there's some stuff at least we date you did over there at Notre Dame That we'll see if we're able to kind of implement something here. I'm sure some maybe not others depending on What are guys do best? I start about CJ because it's like it's a fresh start I do set eyes on them and I think it's an opportunity to be multiple and use him and what he does best, you know or so That's the exciting thing you know when you really study what coach Patricia has done in the past is he likes to take like who are like who are our players and then let's build it around those guys and I think CJ has had a helpful winner I think he's one of those guys I'm excited to see how we You create a benesum into the spring that many seem to be like flow is more of an edge defender

Different than you guys. I think yeah, I think he has that I think that's exactly what kind of like potential CJ has is the ability to You know get on the edge to move around the nice thing about that is is that You're not handicapped just with CJ doing one thing off the edge You think you have the ability because he understands conceptually Zone drops linebacker terminology right you can get really creative how you use him But I think he definitely needs to utilize more as a just go to the heart pack go go be Distructed What about Matt as a leader of you guys this coach is not you how are you? How's the other people's you guys and how are you seeing that and How to feel about the higher? I love the higher I got a lot of respect for coach Patricia Like ever since he worked me a market sound back here and what we were talking about that when you first was

And the interview process is kind of how fast time goes but I'm really excited just to continue to learn like I said like there's some it's funny because there's some terminology that When I was at Notre Dame you can use and I can at least speak some of his language with what he's called things before and you're trying to morph everything to go The right with these things that we've done what he knows what we're doing. It's a lot and But he's been incredible with I think the staff he's very organized. He's detailed You'll have Constant clear communication, you know, and they're gonna get together at this time to be like you're just efficient In your wallet and it's been a lot like when you're come from Outside and you come back into it and you have to try to catch them up on the recruiting board It's it, you know like you have a lot of these conversations. Okay, what are we looking for at these positions now? How do you see it? Because you know under one coordinator if I see a the mic line back and used to be this and under this coordinator Well, I think the mic back needs to be this so you have to have those conversations at every position and

You just kind of keep going through and Um I'm just excited to learn I think the more systems I mean look Played in the system here in college play the system underneath the Magnolo play the system in Tim Walden play the system under Greg Williams that a talent Coach of Galagol and then Jim Nalt like Every one of those there's like different terminology for everything So you're just you're learning a different language call and think you know, I mean versus concepts and I think it was kind of collect over time what you think is Really good stuff and how you do stuff a big deal different and I'm just really excited to learn from that and it's kind of success He seemed very excited over there talking over to me here. Yeah Potion college, which yeah, whatever so long What's his person how they like to wait for you guys and yeah, it's been great I mean his energy is incredible. He's very uh, he is he's authentically excited to be back in control ball Um, you could tell there's like a yearning to get back to Like the why you got the coach right is the impact young people is the impact and teach the game of football

And so the future has been thought you know kind of like talking to the guys in a sense like He's excited to just teach ball, you know what I mean and um kind of ironically like you know Similar to a lot of other things the chips at last year right gonna get back and you're like man. I'm just excited And so if he has that excitement, he's done a phenomenal job. I think of getting to know the players Um, just kind of like walking around versus like popping in making sure that he's in front of them and they could know him and You get to know them and it's a lot that you can imagine when you come in you have all these guys right and Trying to learn all these guys. I'm learning recruiting. I'm learning staff and learning dynamics Like it's a lot, but he's handled it really well You know, he's at school ball coach. He's a grinder. So he's really good job James, I probably not gonna need to do much this spring. How much more can you get down with the young guy? Tell him that In terms of Ryan Dairty said you know Thank you for saying 75% or whatever. How much more can you get down with the young guys when they're not worried too much about the senior?

Yeah, I think I mean You're always just looking for competition Especially like at spring ball mess with all about right you're trying to have It's so cliche, but it's true like the iron iron sharpens iron mentality of You want your room to be super competitive to where Hey, the guy in front of me makes a play Game my next set of four plays I go out there. I have the point right and it's a constant driving of the room Forward So yeah, sonny gets 50 or how many reps you know reps off for the percent rubber coach said Then that means more opportunity for Somebody else to play right so that be more for our vales that scheme flexibility with our vales Pierce around we set TJ Riley you like all these guys stove We're all gonna get more reps. I think it's great. It's what you gotta do at this point in season But I think you know, yes, there's still stuff that within that all of a sudden is that he's gonna be Clon to try to get those reps

Because he's a he's a true pro and You know, that's been the most enjoyable thing about I think working with him is like You get a kid who's played safety as whole life comes the backer and he just wants to learn the why behind everything and You know very similar to the fact of Cody like we have guys who are that easy to work with You're not trying to like not worried about texting anybody in our own About coming over and trying to learn ball, you know, I mean like were you at you know like They're obsessed with the game of football. They're always around when they're not at class So it's like it makes it really easy as a coach because they're passionate for the game and so strong You mentioned CTA in terms of the higher with the map just looking sunny like what do you envision more with him with all of that stuff? I think I think we just have a lot of guys with a lot of length You talk about sunny styles long can run our bellries long can run like It's crazy because you see sunny you're like okay this guy like I wish I was built like that when I played and then you see our bell stand next to sunny here like

You know those you know what I mean? And so like and then you look across the room like as the room warms up You're like holy smokes like we just have a bunch of guys and that's a lot of credit to to make coach made as a phenomenal job. I was just Talking to burn about it like To see even our meteor guys what they look like when they showed up during like the bowl of the hola and that he run And they're kind of hanging out during practice And see the high school bodies to see what they look like today before they go away And like the shoulders are all like everything is just different And they've been And doctrated into the brotherhood So I think you know, there's just a lot to work with and so what he's really good at right is like and he's talked about it One year he has juniors say oh, we'll even get us Mike Vrable, you know Roosevelt Colvin and those guys And then a couple years later he has Brandon spikes so he's like okay, which I just put his blitz Brandon the middle all the time She's 262 pounds and beast and the other says he was my best nose guard

From Mike backer right and then the year after that he gets you know got Jamie Collins and Dante high talent So now we can do a lot of stuff right so There's not just like hey, this is what we're doing. We got plenty of people in there. Hey, here's what we got Let's utilize it So that's what spring will be Waldo in the lab and figure out what that means. I'm sure through spring ball. There'll be like Hey, here's what We do really well as a unit because this unit is gonna be different Right, I mean the unit. We lose a lot of production. So the unit will be different. So you kind of got to reform your own identity and Yeah, we earned that silver bullet big name in mantra How many guys can look at our bell and just seem like he's on very good track. Is that it? Just looks at ceiling It's just a lot of the right guys locked in. He's done a great job becoming a leader Coming out of his shell. I think I think for the belly. It's all about consistency and just preparation and I'm proud of our bell, you know, he's through the season. You got way better at

You know a lot of it's like little things just note taking stuff like sometimes you have to these kids are always on their phones and stuff Not like the meeting runs right thing like that, but just naturally So like to get out of pen and paper and like You hear things and I mean, oh yeah, I got it What you do until your dog tired and then you forget because you know I mean, but when you really understand it, you know, I mean like go play faster He got so much better through the year Just a lot of that's because of Cody like becoming a pro and then now it's like sonny's pulling him along He's pulling pain along the pain to fall into DJ and Riley and Eli so I can't So I kind of I love the competition room right now in the way it's made up Yeah, he's on a great path right now. How many different guys do you feel like can be a man might spawn? But that was obviously losing Cody and now having that You know, I think that's something that's fluid as we kind of go Because you know week one sunny actually started at Mike for us and sunny smart enough to play them all Our velis weren't of the plan mall

Pain pierce is smart enough to play them all And that's also like how did you like depends on what what scheme you're running the where they how do they being utilized as well You know what I mean so You say my like my backer, you know, whether it's Tommy I could very grow up in research two different people and Cody's different than those two so I challenged to like a lot of the guys that come in and so you got the other both the more you understand about the scheme in general The faster you will play you know what I mean like if I just sit here and I say hey, I got their mic My drop is this and that's all I need to know like Well, no football happens so fast and all the shifts emotions that like If you're out there is playing and you're waiting for a call And you're just reacting like you're so worried about what's going on on your side of the ball You don't even recognize that the offense is telling you something's what they're doing so If I'm out there and also I'm not getting a call. I know what the call should be and it's like hey, are we playing you know Let's go

Now listen you get it you can look like a see okay here's what the tight ends doing that's what the backs doing here's what plays are coming If you just lie up and play it's rather passive anytime like you know staying in chance You got to eliminate plays in your mind by seeing what the offense is doing like they Tell you a story every time they line up. It is window dressing My people motion and she wants to try to okay. Are they trying to do man's own indicators and they're trying to make sure that They're getting the same formation. They're on the same place But they just shifted people and then they motion and they move and they don't want you to recognize So for always worried about what work you don't mean so the more you know Fast you can play you're not sitting there thinking oh, what do I have for you're reacting? So I know you have so my challenge to guys like There's always a no both so think a lot of just beyond Undepth trick guys get you know if sonny's only doing 50 to 75% of the plays and probably more guys get more Will reps than they had because we need more will bodies is that's technically where sonny started but We'll rotate them through Let the production kind of show what it does Think sometimes, you know you'll live with some of the stakes just from

Feeding in his spot, but he'll be able to judge to like who's actually Getting the book, you know, I mean who's actually studying How much of a break have you seen from sonny this time of year go through the national championship game and then what's next? man, I mean Definitely, I know I know sonny has big goals and you should um I do as well for him and to see how far he's come you know first thing kind of stands out is just like his His footwork has gotten so much better You know when you're in the box is a linebacker you gotta be able to Remember loop thickly say all the time and you gotta be slow till it's time to be fast and when you're twitchy like he is A lot of times you know when you're about safety or you're used to pulling the trigger and rolling like you got to Gotta learn how to shuffle and not cross over and he got so much better as a year or not Think a lot of people question whether he'd be able to hold up physicality wise and you know He was he was great, you know, he's the season guy. He's really good with his hands. He's a really natural ability to snag

Will keep challenging him. I think he should be a dominant guy in coverage Like he needs to be a guy that we can put on a tight end and be like he's not gonna be in catching the ball You know, I mean because he has that athleticism If they've been a challenge in there Challenge them. I think everything is just Misses on just sonny to realize urgency in zone coverage. I mean The urgency of the you have to break on the football To close that space to not at the ball carrier have so much space on you to to cut making miss is critical I think sometimes he's he could be so athletic that you know, you know, he's the way some stuff And he knows like anything that I'm saying right now. Here he knows. So The best part is a lot of times like he'll come to me Before film and already said man coach on that play. I should have you know, I mean like he knows And the best part is that he's humble enough our whole run is that they just want to be they want to be pushed And they want to be coached and so The heck of a russ can you ask for right like So I was asked what he needs for me just just keep making sure like you're pushing it all in the settle

So Yeah, I mean, I think going into it, you know, I think it's just accomplished the the plan and Whatever play was called whatever maybe just go out there and execute it One thing we've been preaching is execution is is really the motive You know, I'm gonna be called but as long as everybody's mindset is has one mentality which is uh Just go get in and you know make sure there's no yard gain. I think that that changes the The mindset of everybody on the silver bullet defense Did they feel like big changes to you all as they were ongoing or? Uh, I mean at first like you know, it was a tough loss So you know, as any of you felt like everything was big But then when you kind of just take your time to look at everything and analyze everything It was just like man, we just we just need to keep everything simple Make everything and just just uh just about us and you know not like feel like we're Um, you know, making everything about them. It's you know, we can dictate what they do and I think that was the mindset

Did mate letterman wrong. Yeah JT I know you get to watch a little bit of video Uh of Caleb and uh, Lathan and Jordan what stands out about that group from your from your vantage point? Oh, they're relentless man. I mean, Lathan uh, Caleb and I mean everybody in that BIA core Yes, they can cover but you know when it's time to you know stop the run They'll they'll come down 12 yards out however However, however far off the front line scribbles and coming you know, though the nose in there and in our respect For that because you know, there's gonna be times where we need them make them tackles and I mean they're displaying it this whole season Yeah, how critical are they in a game of this magnitude? Obviously everybody's critical But you know me that yeah sort of the last line of defense, but sometimes the last line of defenses in the middle of it Yeah, I mean they play a huge role I mean like you said it takes everybody From the front four it's like a check reaction the front four don't do their job then you know falls You know the back end so we off to work as a collective unit and I think there's a reason that there's 11 of us out there And you know, it's crazy if one person do their job then you know something you go wrong But if we just all continue to stay

Communication with one another continue to just lay each other know we have each other's backs and just trust one another And man, I think that that That performance is gonna be off the charts For the right Stits WSYF Yeah, hungry and thankful I mean we know how the last last time when you know we We had a chip on our shoulder. I mean we're riding high before that game and we took that loss And we came back how to make a couple changes But I think we understand what you know everything's that stick right now I mean, oh just fighting to where another house stages for next year and that's what's on stake and just to be able to represent this This uh this stay in this uh this team. I mean we understand what's as uh what's on the line and you know We're just hungry and blessed that we get this opportunity to play in the Rose Bowl Right behind your Adam King WBN has What do you remember most about walking off the field in Eugene? What was kind of all your lies in that moment? I mean there is uh

I don't think anybody imagined it imagine us losing um, you know, I didn't That's for sure and I think after that it was uh Kind of hit deep Understanding that man we still there's still a lot of ball left to be played I mean you can let it sting for a little bit But you know if you let it carry over too long then you know there there goes there goes your whole Season by I think we did a great job of just Understanding coming together in this room right here um Not being afraid of display um or hold accountability for one another and you know as as that happened He came back regrouped and you know we just You're just going right now um and and I'm just blessed for those specific moments, you know Losing I mean no one wants to lose but the the testimonies and the things are taught within those little situations speaks volume We can see like he's playing since

Yeah, I mean that's that's my boy. He's in the r2x club too, but um you know Kiyada, I mean every time his numbers call he goes out there and makes the most of it No, no matter uh Where where we at in the game when he goes out there, he's just hungry. He wants to go make plays and and you know We see it in practice. So it's not surprising to us There were been ones close this back Don't gave us oxygen area lucid in our talent and he's not very tall How important it could be to just kind of stay in your Past rush lanes and then collect a lot of balls and kind of make a difference that way Yeah, I think it just comes on being disciplined No one who you're playing against like you said don't he's a he sure but he's very elusive. I mean he can He is making throws. I mean he get out the pike and do everything So I think for us we've got to discipline and just continue to just uh Meet with coach Jay me with the coach knows and understand how we can uh just eliminate that You and Jack I mean Your personality seem to be a little different you're more on the quiet side. He's

Yeah, how well you play together four years both five store guys kind of describe your relationship with him Friendship with him. Yeah, just kind of how you pop on each other. Man, that's uh that's my brother like he said We're different but very alike um think outside. I'm like you said he's louder. I'm quiet But you know once we're on that field we're like the same person We'll do anything for this team. You know, we'll die for our players and we'll give everything we got Room together for four years correct. Yeah fall camps Yeah, sometimes go over there. So over there We have our share of days when we when I'm neat. He's neat or you know, we might both be messy But we do we do a good job Yeah, I'd probably say I would better kick the jack though When you're playing a team for the second time and that was almost a season to go by now. Yeah, how much of Are you at square one with with this scouting and preparation or how much do you take from that game?

How much do you avoid taking so that you don't have any preconceived notion to much of going up against offense on the offensive line? I say it's pretty 50-50. I mean uh that game like you said it was it was a while ago But at the same time they elevated as a team and so did we so we understand that they they had they made some changes for sure You know there's team there's a certain density we can take back from that game But we also understand that um they went on a low run after that and we can see that they elevated as an offense So we just got to continue to watch those games dissect the other games and just continue to see um What stands out and what they change from the for the past game We got a couple calls on on zoom that will wrap up with first. We have Nick Hamilton from nightcast media Nick Uh Just wanted to ask you basically about the synergy of this defense and how you guys were able to Uh not only celebrate the triumphs but get through the adversity be able to be this top-notch defense that you are in college football today

Uh Here you need to question one more time. Yeah no problem Want to ask you about the synergy you are we're able to develop over course of the season obviously celebrating the triumphs But also getting through the adversities to where you go all are the top-notch defense that you all are today Yeah, I mean like you said that we went through a lot of trials the trials But there's also there's a lot things we can take away from all the wins and losses Um and from those those wins we understood that hey we can be the best defensive country and from those losses We understand that there's still Things that need to be fixed and I think when you take all that in at once um That comes out to the the common goal or the common talk which is you can there's always learning points everywhere and Depending how we dissect those games or how we just continue to come as one and elevate You know, we we continue to just Collect all those those learning points and just continue to grow from them And one final question Joey Kaufman Columbus dispatch Joey JT uh what have what have you guys done better and the

Especially in the Tennessee game and just late in the season you think about turning some of the the pressures Are you going on in quarterbacks in the sacks and getting a home in some of those situations? Yeah, I think it was more just uh understanding the defense as a whole understanding everybody's job Think as the season went on we get to understand that you know, we have to know what's going on in the back And we have to know what's going on to the linebacker crew to understand uh What plays we have room with freedom and I think once we understood that and got a better understanding of the of everybody's job I mean it it showed this play because you know everybody knows we each other's doing It's not like the lineback is know what they're doing Uh the corners and be eye they know only their job I think we all know each other's job and we continue to ask each other questions Um on you know if they're blitz and how they can get to the quarterback and you know if I'm dropping Playing for backs by I can ask Cody on how to open field tackle So you know, we just we just kind of lean on each other's understanding because uh, you know Um like I said like Denzel knows how to play corner bend it and I know how to play corner

So you know, he has more more wisdom at that position than I do JT thank you very much. Thank you More and more Um, I don't know that yeah, I kind of just mentioned previously I don't know my role. I don't know of the engine out yet. So once we will get know Through the protocols and NFOPA we'll talk about know the schemes and everything Right Hello, so welcome when you were in Denver in the three four Where did you find yourself most comfortable most effective in my role? Um, I played a lot of different positions in uh Denver. I mean earlier in my year I played zero I played three two one I mean, I'm definitely more comfortable in a shaded position mainly being uh three technique and five technique That's why I find myself to be more comfortable whether I'm standing up or I'm not Or there's runner or pass uh those seem to be my best my best fits And what is your impression of p caros defense and

In whole environment and Seattle from afar? Uh from afar it seems like he uh, he holds in on a defense a lot Uh, I can't really say too much about that. Yeah, I don't I know p caro very little So uh, I'm just trying to figure out more and I'll give you a better answer later What's the reputation around the league? Uh, you know hard-knows hard hat type of team um definitely on the little more lack side as opposed to being know stuck up or military style and um which is definitely good because then they this program is more A lot of football games have been super successful for many years as long as I've been alive and as long as I've been watching football And deadly This has been a good program and p caros has been a hell of a coach for the long-dark remember and you and back in his college days So I'm looking forward to experiencing that Child while Yeah, I know you said you don't know yet, you know what your role can be but what kind of player are you that you know for fans who haven't watched On the Denver what kind of player does he has to get? Oh definitely a high motor um definitely not a one trick point type of player

I like to attack No, whether it's first set or first to before now. I like to attack. I'm always trying to apply pressure Um, I'm definitely just a high motor guy. I'm not Maybe Oh, they're pretty understant for me. I've been nice to meet you. That's a good Yeah, this is not a team that really makes big splash sign in this in pregnancy Do you think going into it that Seattle would be in play? Uh, no not at all You just it's kind of like being a kid at the candy store you know got a whole bunch of different options coming at you You know what you're different crazy things and you know, you only get to choose one and this is the place that We both chose each other and I mean I'm loving see out so far, you know, I like these colors What do you got to do in Seattle and see since you've been here? Um, not much Just kind of just drive around the city exploring Get down to the market a little bit I want to get on the Ferris wheel do some more like touristy type of things You know, I'm new to the city and I got a lot to learn about city

Larry I know Michael Burr men it like that I know nothing about it But um besides his style of play But I'm honored to be considered and the same conversation to him and uh style of play You know, he's a Hall of Fame type of deep lime and that I've known about since I was a kid I mean last time he played here. I was in high school So you know, it's cool to It kind of came full circle a little bit watching him on TV and now I'm being kind of compared to him in a way You know, I mean, I'm not touching the surface of Michael Bennett, you know, he's a Hall of Famer and I'm not there yet so you know I just gotta keep doing my due diligence to be a better player Carvin Hey dream out welcome to Seattle. I know you get to play several seasons for Vic Fangio and Yeah, three four style defense and Seattle's playing a similar system now dating back to last year I have a defensive line and what do you think is most important to be successful in that system? Maybe fundamentals or just playing style to be successful?

Um just from what I learned being gap sound and uh being patient It's always been the biggest thing and that's how we've been successful when I was in Denver Just kind of like relying on each other. I know that sounds kind of cliche But like this kind of like the the realm of being in three four defense You got to really really rely on the the guys behind you and the guys on side of you to really make their To do their job to make your job easier Um Um, yeah dream up um You're uh, you're gonna have a state class because you didn't start playing football to you or junior high school You know, why did you play basketball until then next? Just uh, what made you know, I guess you started to go play football and then was that all hard to see? Did all the kind of move away from basketball? No, no, I'll always love football first It was just kind of just time to just playing it out You know, I let a hoop but you know football was definitely my calling and given I was 265 pound Power forward and I was like six degrees from changing so you know, I kind of chose a route that you got gave me And I'm not six eight

Um Just for a standpoint like I always get like over over shadowed over look whether it's uh And something you know saying like I feel like I do a lot more than what can be uh, sitting by the the eyes of the inexperienced no scout And I do a lot of different dynamic things that help make place for others, you know I'm definitely an active player. I'm always doing something weather in the run of past games So you know, I think that goes on notice sometimes and um, I'm looking forward to playing people on notice Brady What do you like to do outside of football? What is putting your hobby? Uh, big gamer um, I'm definitely I've been getting to a lot of chess lately. So I just to expand my brain I'm trying to get into reading But if it's not supported later, I don't I really not interested in reading that much, but mainly just video gaming in chess And then when we write and say your name, do you prefer gray or gray?

Uh, I mean you can say you can say draymont Jones, I mean, but like just I feel like personally just call me dray because it's easy because people like to f my name But like a lot they call me draymontay. I don't know why you put a draymontay in my name or draymontay whatever you want to say I just go by dray to keep it simple Michael shine Hey, right. What's specifically you bringing to the sea box as a past question? Uh, some the new era of the past question, you know someone was on a little the little lighter side of the average three technique and Bring that explosiveness that quickness Someone was great with their hands. Someone was a very stingsable and someone was a go-getter when it comes to the run-in passenger Appreciate you. Yeah, thank you child well yet dray Jones said after the trade or after the signing that you actually got they they wanted and the trade last year The Russell of the trade but Denver said no, it was that something time you were Yeah, I was aware. I mean like shit

Yeah, I am flattered, but uh, I mean shit actually just traded me from the jump uh, but uh It was it was cool to I guess it kind of came full circle for Seattle a little bit I was included into the trade and Denver said no and then Denver kind of I want to say that word but Denver didn't pay my part respect so I'm here because they were they were expecting from the jump All right, anything else guys? Thank you. What are things new and we're all learning so um, it's been really good How much were you talking in came as you got here and kind of going through that first year? Obviously he's doing his own thing, but just what this is all right Yeah, no, I think having him go through the whole process is You know kind of having you know him in my corner just to you know talk to you or call You know, we still talk tough a lot and like I have some questions whenever You know, so you know, I first got here he was used to hearing no training everything Yeah, it fell so

You know, it's been you know like I have him whenever so it's like What's it like watching now in the NFL with detectives Got to see you know pretty well doing You know living out his dreams. Yeah, no, it's gonna come in the super happy form, you know, he's uh Down there in Houston, you know, you know, CJ and everything I think you know, he really likes it So, you know, I'm excited to see what he does this next coming year Yeah, I think you kind of realized that you know, this is you know, this is your life You know, you got to you know, come in here placing a high state like playing with the best ever since the day You know, you got with the time and you know, you got to You know, you got to make sacrifices, you know, to you know, what you want to get out of it in the end You know, along the fight, you know, school and just you know, live on your own and you know, it's good for you to do a lot You know, as you get it just makes you better overall

You know, you know, you have to be in the road Yeah, I mean, just kind of you know, just shown the way around this building, you know, just you know, how how we do it here at a high state how we operate You know, they've uh, you know, I think all three young guys coming in have done a great job, you know, they've You know, great work ethic, you know, I think uh, you know, for me, you know, the offseason is more like a lead by example kind of thing And spring a little bit of, you know, vocally, and there as well, but you know, just kind of for the work of a family No, kind of showing them how you know, build a guy and how we do things in the room is, you know, definitely carried on to Being a part of that championship round last year, I guess what did you learn from that one thing went on? You guys went on and I guess What do you learn about? Like what it takes? This is just a level I would just say, you know, staying together You know, our biggest thing was each week was just trying to keep that group together each week and uh, you know, I think last year we had such a strong bond together

You know with all the guys, so I think that was really the motivation You know, just staying together and like a like a band of brothers James talked about the past, I think you have an exciting r-bell You know, kind of made that huge deep, but James talked about the past and the past and you're playing well, you're making plays consistently practice You're gonna find playing well, you think you're gonna sing a song, you're gonna have a freshness at that approach You're not a flaw in just guys who run through, you're making a play, you're playing well You're making a lot of changes Yeah, I mean, I think, uh, you know, just starts with, you know, coming out to practice every day You know, put your head down just, you know, making sure you're going hard, everything you play, you know, what you're doing You know, so you can build that trust But I think, you know, just having the guys around, letting you know, like sunny r-bell, paying, you know You know, who's, you know, been in there, you know, playing in games, everything like that You know, Deline on and, um, ask some questions and stuff, so, so you're ready Where you said that was just a different time? I'm like 227 What's the call for a board call? You have a board call? Um, it's still 225 right now, but I think it'll come up to like 238th

So, I'm gonna need to get a little more Greatness, Bridget Who showed you? The feel of sense of urgency in terms of that part of that 2D To provide depth, or maybe more than that, this season How can you go into your team? Uh, yeah, I mean, I think all right now I'm kind of focused on just getting better this one day I think that's kind of what it springs for Is, um, you know, individually just, you know, continue to perfect your craft every single day Before that's a technique or any more scheme or whatever I believe But, uh, well, yeah, I mean, I think that's, you know, definitely, you know, something in my head And, you know, obviously, you know, came here to play So, um, I think that's definitely a big thing I think just saying I had the chance and getting, getting past those third downs, converting on those third downs I mean, that's what we gotta be better at Um, within the day, we gotta put him in zone We're not doing that, we're not doing our job So, are you guys creating more explosive plays? That's an offensive Right, I think, uh, you stick with it Um, you know, the explosive plays are going to come

And, now we've got to trust that And they'll be there for us for sure Coach Sins has been here for, uh, high as Ann Lowe's over the many, many years He's been with this program now What sort of his message to your group right now? Or when you're turning to him, what, what is he saying as far as how to get through Yeah, so I think it's just really just Coming and attacking every day as you would Regardless and, uh, you know, staying, staying even, even through hardship and Attacking it, attacking it the same way every day That's really all you can do and uh, you just get a little better every day and see where it takes you Based on the way things are already we're setting up, but then also the way um Jason Simmons was calling the game on Saturday It seemed like Titans are going to be a big Part of this as you guys are trying to pull out and what, what role do you think you guys are going to have in trying to get this offense? Yeah, I think we, I think the role is always to try to help the offense move the ball and um, whether they were called upon to do that In the past game or the run game, we just got to step up and do our job at a high level and uh, whatever you asked from us

We just got to do it at high level and let the offense go You're some of leaders on the offense Some of the leaders have to say Gus is a big leader I mean he's been doing it for a while and I know someone that everyone trust Is going to do his job at a high level and I think we have Hudson's a good leader too as well Obviously, there's a quarterback so he takes on that leadership role and um, I think We just have a good amount of leaders uh You know throughout the offense We were told George might be fairly close to getting back What would mean to get him back in the mix with the Titans? Yeah, it'd be great I mean George is a great athlete. So having him out there can only help Um, you know, we're really excited about him and what you can do on the field so it'd be great They don't care about that up here So you know it's developing yourself to have a great mindset early Uh, you know having that grown man mindset at 18 years old It's really important because my opinion don't really care about feelings So it's about you know just coming up here, you know being a man that you think you are you know having to go out there and you know

Prove it David what's been the easiest thing and the most difficult thing about your transition years so far? The easiest thing I would say I mean it's really not that easy about this You know coming to a top program like this, you know, especially them coming off from national championship It's really not that easy, you know, they're pushing for the same thing and they trying to go back and back So I mean we just got to come up here. We got to step up But the hardest thing I would say, you know, just just having to grow up You know going from high school where you know, I've been the man there for three years So I mean coming up here where you started the bottom again. So I mean, I told my parents is all the time like you know I think my history is repeating itself because when I went in high school the high school I went to her a powerhouse So I was at the bottom there and had to work my way up and I still like that's just repeating self here I met the bottom here, you know, I put myself at the bottom So I have to work my way up to the top and so you know just going to get these guys they're competing every day You're not gonna get a day off where you know she was just coming out here just just be essence So I mean you got to you got to be a piece of cute all the time When you see what a guy like Jay

Go ahead Kevin Kim skittish When you see what a guy like Jay Jay did last year coming in here playing immediately Is that inspired you to want to be able to do the same thing as a freshman? I mean definitely, you know Just just what he did last year is a true freshman You know him being able to play an impact team like that obviously I want that for myself So you know, I'm gonna push myself to that limit You know try to be on the field here one that's my plan. That's the biggest reason I came here because I have an opportunity to play here one So Me having that opportunity is good and you know, I'm gonna I'm always gonna come out here and compete Like I said, I'm putting myself at the bottom. So I'm working. I'm gonna work every day like I'm at the bottom And I gotta get to the top how well what what do you feel like it's gonna take for you to get from the bottom to the bottom? You know just just discipline They're big on discipline here, and you know competitive agent So it's just staying consistent every day Just doing the rights Having little to none mental errors That's gonna give me on the field You know, I do I do what I'm supposed to do that's that's how you manage those expectations for people to think that you should be playing week one

Season how do you manage people? You know, I don't really let you get to my head because you know, like I'm here You know, I got do's in a room that are you know like I did you know It's gonna be a three-year start. I got your main first from all American, you know He's gonna play it here too So I can't let what people say on the net, you know get to me because no Anybody can say oh, he's gonna play this year, but you know, I should got to prove it So I just got to come out here, you know work, you know, and that spot. What's the most important? Compete every day That's that's the biggest thing Having to compete know these guys appear they take winning and losing to heart So no my first my first week up here when you did our competition, you know I was winning did I actually I got that first loss on my belt and you know Open my eyes like these guys take it hard when they lose they don't like it So you know, I kind of got that now where I don't like losing So you had you had the opportunity to be around the team for that, you know CFP Ron What did you learn from just those few weeks seeing this team make that run?

You know being real tight with your brothers, you know, they're real tight You know, they push each other, you know, it's a real brotherhood They don't let nobody down. They always got each other back. So I mean it's a new team now So, you know, we got to build that chemistry with each other, you know, just just get tight And I feel like when I was there for that player running and I practiced When they were at the national championship, you know, I just got to watch, you know how guys are, you know, real locked in They're close with each other They're not letting nobody slack off and you know, I feel like we had the opportunity to do that with this team now How did you handle? Uh you handle that first loss that first loss, you know, it kind of got to me. It was it was the IGB You know, he you know, he let me hear so after that loss I was like now I can't let this happen because it's like Now it's not high school where you 17 16 years old and if you lose you lose Up here is not if you lose the coach to see that so and they go see how you respond to it So I feel like I had a hacker, you know, open my eyes. I had to go and then lock them like, yeah, okay I can't let this happen anywhere, you know So I got to go up and you know, these guys are counting on me too. So it's really important that I don't lose if you had to describe yourself as a competitor

How would you do that? I'm a great competitor, you know, I like winning. Uh who does I like winning? So I mean winning is it's in my blood, uh, you know My parents taught me that in a young age, you know, going out there competing for anything that you want And I feel like if you can go out there to peep for it, you know, it's yours And if you can peep for it all the time, who don't take it from me So I mean, I'm a good competitor. I'm always gonna go out there and try to take what's mine If it's out there, then me anybody can have it and I'm gonna be the one to get it There's some role markers in your room obviously. Are you a talker? What's your natural mind? Yeah, I mean it can come out on you know, but I don't really I really know my game to the talking For this part But you know if it gets there it gets to that point where yeah, I can bring it out because you know regardless I'm not just gonna let nobody just come out here and just you know catch balls on me So if I'm having a good day when I'm consistently getting pbus, yeah, I'm gonna talk But you know being in that room you kind of got to talk you know, the jame you got IGB You know those those real talkers in that room. So it kind of it kind of makes you want to bring it out And you know when we bring that out they just bring it to energy out on whole defense and when you got the whole defense clicking

I mean you can see you can see It was during the winter we were doing you know, just stuff on the field We was just just just having the time of the field just a lot of competitions So I mean he just kind of it was a day where you know they had us going up against just the freshmen And then they kind of threw us in there and fired against the other guys So we had to you know, we had to wake up and you know, we all kind of lost and it all kind of like we all kind of can't To get that to the freshman group like what are we gonna do about this because you know some of their kind of mess to to step up in those roads Yeah, definitely definitely my work in college moments, you know, you know, just just showing that you know Israel now a metal high-oh state I'm not in Houston, Texas no more in my school Far from my family, you know, I got a wake up. I got a grow. I got a mature fast And you know, I just got to get ready for the next level. You've mentioned high school a couple times Well, how did you know grow it up there in Texas playing at that level? How do you feel like that? Help you prepare for a high-stay? I feel like you prepare good, you know, I feel like I want to powerhouse in Texas

We obviously ran the Houston area, you know We've been running the Houston area for a long time now and I feel like you know, we're a real college program We live just like these guys who do the same lifts You know the level of ball I play the highest level ball in the Texas 6A You know, we're going against guys like donkville no crowded those those top schools You know receive a decoy and more I go against them. I want to get some three times in my career So I mean those that really prepared me for this level, you know Coming in like okay, this is not where this is it's a little school where oh, they don't they don't believe that I can come here and make an impact I came from big school so they're they're counting on me to make an impact because you know, I think I mean everybody would say Texas is one of the highest football players bars in the country, you know It goes us floated in the probably Georgia, so I mean they're counting on me to be ready and that level ball prepared me There well, I do do against the Corey, you know It was it was when when lose when lose, you know, I went some he lose some So I mean it's it's it's just it's just getting better on sharpen iron because you know, he's the top receiver obviously in our class

You know, I feel like he's gonna have a good impact at working So I mean, it's just it's just just uh just what's gonna happen next like a part of the scene of him again Yeah, definitely definitely I you know, I plan on planning it some uh, we don't we want to see them this year Hopefully we see them in the big ten championships, so you know, I want I want uh, I want that rematch me never you committed Super early in the process six months after that you shut things down when Quite frankly, someone of your caliber didn't have to do that you could have You've seen kids play the game a little bit longer than that, but you chose to not do that. It's kind of like in here Why you know, cuz this was this was this was what I felt this was home Uh, you know, I didn't really feel like you know standing Texas was a good thing for me I didn't I didn't feel like that was home for me Up here. I just like it was home. You know, because of all and cuz they you know, they're making it you know Making me feel important up here and then you know, like you can ask because what how many times I came up here Throughout my high school career I came for 13 times. So it got to the point where I was knowing guys on the team I had the numbers just like that when I come up here, you know, I don't got to always build the coaches

I can go chill some of the guys on the team So it's just just me, you know, knowing what I want to put in my college ball at, you know, knowing where I felt Like it was home and then you know, it was also my parents too, you know, my mom being you know, feeling safe that you know I'm up here, you know, I'm handling the business and not having to worry about me when she goes to school I didn't practice he had for you and I think this is the other one that's interesting Uh, Coach Hardline in the room, uh, Coach Drenner in step up and he's helped us out Everything he's a big help and I just like make sure we stand up and stuff We're just talking about stepping into a big role in the slide. How much do you watch? I like that every day try and take things Whether it's preparation stuffy does on the field and just learning from a guy like that. Yeah Every time I watch film I watch him So I just thought to take some of this game and I had it to my handbrison largest too. I take some of this all the receivers Uh, yeah They always help you out on the

As much of life walking into this room So the civility and tired staying with all the history of the yard is not like I mean you know It needs to be a part of this room. What's that? Uh, it's a big step um Uh, definitely It definitely holds a lot like a shoulder. So you gotta gotta gotta gotta get a big quick It's definitely a big dream for my team. It's never been you know, I'm blessed to be here. You want that? Yeah What kind of advice you've got from some of the workers that has already even before spring wall sorry to talk to the mecca some of those guys just Uh Like try not to take everything personally like I'll say like When you know time will come we will make a comment saying maybe that play And uh, I'll be looking forward to that day and staying up late but because that's gonna get you to find our life and find our next game Yeah

How much is patient to requirement Obviously you can get off the field But how much is patient to Important to have I'm not everybody has the same route so some people always have a weekend term but You just got You ever said I mean I We are testing for an advocacy watch for live. Our testing is going to be a campaign for the Fox Live. We can team sure.

Something to bring. Great, great, great. This is what you want. Out of the corner back in your class. Like the White House, Applebee, your missing address. Our target for the Fox Live is on the right. This is part of the water control. We have made it to the bottom. We said testing for the back of the coach. We said, we're done. We're done. We need to test somebody? Nex? I'm just choosing three things. So that's good. Just another thing from theнения. I here. Yeah. Sports, in that direction. We need to cross. So I'mtestatzer. Cool. Operator. What about me? Thank you, bros, for visiting Toast today. Thank you very much. To Toast. Thank you very much, to Toast. First thing that you did, thank you. Thank you. What's your name? What's your name? I'm Aaron. I'm Aaron.

I'm Aaron. I'm Aaron. I'm Aaron. I'm Aaron. I'm Aaron. I'm Aaron. I'm Aaron. I'm Aaron. This is the first time I met him. We just found it really good. What do you think he can bring to the top? You know, we're talking about it. I'm just talking about it. Yeah, I love it. So, like, the lock is open. So, like, it is open. What's in, like, for you, just who you have to count? Or you being out of time, then? That's going to spoil a lot of things. Like, for me, it's like, for me. It's helping to just put on this. It's going to be a genius winters. So, you're like, different being out of state for three years. The fun you were just a couple of hours out here is definitely different. So, it's five years. You're a new generation of recruits where I don't think anybody outside like me, a new question is the strength of your commitment, like, you're locked in your last eight percent over and over. But, you're making visits around the country. You see other schools.

It's almost a totally different mindset. What's that? How do you approach those other visits? And how do you communicate with Ohio State about them? And, next thing, the message is something that's something that I can't take from us. I just like to know that, you know, I'm always lucky, you know, I'm just still enjoying buses. I've been through, you know, so many times, so I'm just doing, you know, doing, doing, doing, doing. So, other schools are that set up, like, yes, really hard to try to give you a flip. So, how's the, you know, to be, so, what does it mean you want to take from us? Yeah, I'm not going to put out one specific thing. I'm going to have to leave it to you. I can find yourself in the frustrations. Do you get frustrated in moments like that in the ball time? Definitely, a little bit of both. Obviously, I just wanted the team to win. I think you got a chance to win. No, definitely towards it. And then, stretch that last drive. I was a couple of plays here, a couple of calls that he made me should have gotten. But, I think the frustration more so it just comes from, you know, wanting to win more or anything.

So, what did you say he was a little surprised how much attention you got right away from your defense? How about you? Yeah, definitely. We maybe killed him or one of ones kind of how the game plan was set up. You didn't got a different coverage out of cloud to my side. And I just kind of had to gain those games like that. What's the process then? I don't know, like, sometimes we're, or whatever reason, just, just, just see that. Yeah, definitely. Especially in college, a lot of the game friends, defensively, were taking your leg. You know, they had a lot of success at a house. They obviously were one of the boys having different weapons. They're kind of still getting the victories. And I was, yeah, you continue to do better jobs doing it right here. Why are you taking the vacation? The process has been like post game getting on the same page with Kyler. You guys exchange tax terms. You guys in the film? Yeah, film. Definitely kind of asking what did I see there? Kind of go over a play. That's how I get them when I saw, and kind of different feedback there. Change words.

Mark, I get it. We're asking questions about the previous game. Are you the type of guy to let a game like that winger, or how do you flush it? You got to move on. Got to move on. It's a long season guy. It's like 16 more of them. Hopefully, no, I can stay healthy throughout the year and just continue to build and get better each week. You guys did so much work throughout the off season to get on the same page. How different is it when you get into that regular season camp? Yeah, it's totally different. It's totally different. You can do a lot of things, you know, inserts and shorts, and then you go out there and put practice and get pads on. You do like the point practice video with the colds, but there's nothing like actually going out there and live action. And really trying to be on the same page. So I think that relationship will continue to develop and we'll get better. Is that it, just a matter of roughs then, as much as anything? Yeah, definitely. Definitely. Like I said, that was kind of my first live action together. So, okay, we'll continue to give it to me. What are your early impressions on the time on the field together and what's the reason? Yeah, but now obviously I have a deaf serve respect, you know, JG's call or preseason. And obviously be all feel really healthy.

That's kind of the most important thing. And obviously that's a lot of healthy going forward. So, um, that's the actual thing. Marvin, what are your early impressions of the Rams? What do you think of the Rams? Yeah, I mean, they're a good team. They're a good physical team. I got a new lot of new guys up front, I think. That's kind of where the strong suit is. Kind of a little different to Buffalo, come over to a little match coverage. So, I'm excited to go against them. Personally, when the belts take you one on one, how do you feel today? Wasn't many of them. Wasn't many of them. So, I thought you'd be good. I'm just what you think versus just playing. You know, not getting a preseason game, actually. I think it was preseason. Definitely, definitely thinking a lot out there. I think I'll come with reps. I think they're thinking less and just going out there and playing. Definitely come with reps. And it's something you're on, you're better at. But, um, they definitely say I was thinking a lot out there. Is there anything you can do to prove that that's your own coverage? Anything you can do in the past? Because you're going to finish that a lot, obviously. Yeah, I mean, you just got to team, get open for yourself.

Make yourself available. The one the ball does, anyway, making the play. Um, this, the beef is just taking you away. That means other guys are having a chance to get open. So, that's how kind of how I look at it. It's no longer since you know offense. That's the best thing of course. They're continuity with Tyler. Is there something that comes pretty quickly in a meeting? Or something like that? One shot. Uh, hopefully sooner or later, I think. Um, we'll continue to see. We'll see. I don't think we're in a bad place right now at all. Obviously, I don't really think that. But, uh, just the live reps will continue to grow and show. It's a little bit about life. It's like, it's like, it's helping us. Like, saying what cause of GM, cause what? Everything's not always about ball with them. It's about like focus on like, how do you become a better man? A better player individually. Sorry. One. I think you had your inner self. It's crazy. I always did that. I hope you got to be compensated while I was heading into. Chris, next season, kind of trying to push for a job. Is that like a confidence booster for you? I mean, I'll say it was a confidence booster. One reason I say that because. You get like good coaches who believe in you and like,

they give you the tools to go out there and just play with confidence. You know, not out there doubting those stuff. Like, you got your teammates who got your back like my first play when I got up there to the seat. Like when to sail, I G.B. and your main. Like, first thing they say is like, no, worry. Just go out there and play with confidence. You know, you know the tools, it's usual tools. Just go out there and make a play. And we're about to play coming to you. You know, we're just so time to show a job. You just do it. And then like, say what goes wrong. Like, he gives me. He puts me in a position like. Like the drills we put in the work you put in. The one on one, so I just go out there and just push on. Or the highest level. How much better are you right now than. Maybe last month, I force back. I mean, I got way better just because I've transitioned a little bit to the inside. Nicholas Fawseh. I'm like, now I'm actually trying to like catch technique. And it's often covers not as not always press at the line. So it's like, now I'm able to like move my feet, move my hands. Like, see like what I got to do just like just in case I got to go back in corner. I can I plan off now. I'm very confident out there. Do you think that was a natural fifth of you or have you had the kind of.

You're just getting yourself the traditional. I mean, I feel like it's natural for me because I feel like me. And individually, I'm a fast learner. Fast learner. Like coaches help us like learn fast. Like, because they're always on this about the techniques and stuff. So you like you write down like you pick up on all the things. And then like when we get out here, they coach us to like the techniques. So we used to go out there and play like fast spot. And then you know, I would like reverse utility. You're able to go out there and just compete. Is that where you kind of stuff is spring or you've been kind of out there. So I've really been stuck there this spring a little bit. Right. Whenever you get it's like other things. I just bounce out there every once in a while. Just like have just have fun. See if I still got it every once in a while. So it's as good as going to the compete at most spots. You mentioned the technique. What technique, you know, tips and things that you had to pick up and learn from coach walking from the beginning to the end. I mean, this is why I always say, hey, because what preaches are asking hands. Like see it. You see it. Move your feet. I mean, how much do a hand with the still hands on the mat. So it's like when you get like, when you out there.

You able to like, process like the way the receiver comes off the ball looking at the hips and seeing like, the way he moving. Are you able to pick up like the row concerts you can get out of that. Like so it's being like other coach of all to me. Like as a player and it's like him breaking out football to you like one on one. It's like very beneficial. What was the hardest part of making that transition from outside inside? I really just say like, the corner you've got your cover to, to kind of want us, like you know what I mean, it's easy but then you got nickel. Now so many responsibilities you gotta see like the row concepts, you gotta be able to process like dying those rows faster then what you gotta do in that corner and just be able to like everything's quid like you're transitioning, you gotta like you gotta move fast, you gotta just learn to move fast. It's like game recognition where you think maybe from the most since you got a, that's what you got from a lot of things. I would definitely say, I would definitely say it has been because when you get to like college it's a little bit different. Like high school, you don't gotta worry about things like that when you get to college in school, like this like your recognition of plays and like you'll know your jobs the way like the cover

just supposed to be played. I understand all your teammates are supposed to get into. It's like it is easy. What have you forgotten to bet on? It's very talented. It's a great dude. It's a humble guy. A great teammate. He's very supportive. He's like God actually went wrong because you can feed off your energy because you can see like when you make a play. He's like he like IGB. He's like IGB 2 partners. So he's like when you get off there with guys like that with good energy, it makes you play a little bit harder and it's like when you make a play it's out there. It's helping you. It's being out there with him is a good way to play. One of those guys, first question, can't fool kids. I know how you say obviously over the last few years or so. There's probably serious hurts now. What is it about one build that gets you through any play at all? It's a big question. I know. I'm just such a prepare school because you have so many kids come out of the blue and just play at leaves. I leave school and then like tracks a big part of it because I mean to actually in a blue building everybody that

I run track like it's mandatory. You don't really get a choice. You're able to just like get out here and like know how to compete and then like G like getting builds that mental toughness into you. So like have you like I heard now you got to be mentally tough because I mean life is not going to be easy. So it's like being out here being out here with a P and when you down just pick your sub back up. I mean that's what he is down to me and that's what he is down to. Play here forever. I was talking about his plans. So you know you wish transitions like one of those fairy tales like it's your time now. But again either way you know we talk about it you know that's that's the Togo's you know but obviously you know he's he's happy he's been one of the big supporters. Again I think everybody leads in their own way you know not everybody's the brother guys come around. That's not everybody right like I think for me that's

me specifically on game day with the O and after we do like that's my like well I'm dead like that's my like they vocal time I feel like I'm talking about this you know just recently talking about how what I want to do for the world is I want to bring that up energy the Abra right so last year of course I'm sure he's been doing for years but the year when I spent my own he brought a lot of energy excitement and happiness in the room which is his natural energy to where I had to focus on me you know I didn't have to make sure other other guys are you know feels the type of way when it came in here because hump brought that and I'm a hump's not here but I saw a winged different room I want to be that guy to make sure it's an optical practice everybody's I'm taking a big team on period you know it's a low-dating something you know it's a disadvantage but like I want to make it feel like

I want to bring that because that's what me and hump did with each other I have each other do like do probably walk or flip so I want to do that I want to bring that energy I want to make bring more guys you know to do that yeah I want to do that from day one you know I kind of I want to do that from day one um I'm talking to him and obviously it's that time I spent the off season before OTA started just being in my self-justing about what the room needs you know because I know I knew who will ask one of the leaders you know my offense is that we need a guy like that is going to make sure the O.I. is picked up ready to go every day I was held accountable little things don't happen to practice people aren't saying anything and how I believe maybe different than somebody else maybe you know like to practice at least like the legal positivity you

know I mean so but he the energy yeah would be on just oh hype of the beyond so I was kind of how I want to be going on um literally my whole life I want to get I felt team captain like specifically and I felt I wasn't captain of high school wasn't a captain of college but I want to make a joke on high school so I feel like I'm not going to be captain like it's that I felt yeah but that would be awesome you know but you know that happens I'd be great but not either way I want to assume a role as a captain from the perspective of guys onto the visual word and get back in that way yeah I mean I can't say that um I mean I guess the biggest thing is that I felt like how you used to move past but it didn't take just the first day OTAs it took training left and right once this season ended because I know what it was going to be

so it's like a lot of you know grips um just to get back to feeling like myself for big one OTAs and then I hold first week but now like today specifically just changing some small things with my feet that good they're talking about the long coach awesome things I'm doing my feet to get to that to sell my traditional angle that I love to sit on I thought even I thought I felt I already felt okay I felt even better so I need more exercises tomorrow now I'm getting my feet back and how I like the right side and I'm left side so I'm excited I mean obviously I feel like in the league whether I left the right you're still going against premier guys so obviously the high expectations for the left and right tackle but um there's definitely like the a level of energy and like the expectations definitely taking the human strength because now connect the blind side that's the as the tackle role you know so um so yeah I would say in terms

of communication as far as this even outside of facility you just stuff like that like really creating that but tackle quarterback body even more often feel like that because of something that's even the cool I got a text one day as I you put left I was like you know yeah I've been training both I've been training both you know I I asked after the season they're like honestly you know we'll talk to you if something season and I just got a text on having what happens with the free agency then so I was like you know what I had a whole season right tackle so if I get the word I'm going I'm standing right tackle I'll just do what I did before I'm built on that but I was like I might as well as train the left tackle now as if we're going to be left tackle and I'd rather do that than train on right time with the color there you know what I mean so I'm like let me just prepare an advance I'll say yeah it's got you know I think occasionally on third down there'd be a lot of twists I was just not like it's

automatic and I think that was my mindset for like the first half of the season like I didn't have to go it's a game of a surprise like oh my gosh they did that I kind of figured like okay like this is this is the type of rush I'm gonna get this is how this guy usually rushes if I get the vibe this is how the ends like the rush you know tackles at it first year guys we got the premier patch on already know what it was gonna be already know every stud and honestly just knowing that's kind of an advantage to so you're not you're not you're not oh well they're probably twisting my sight again it was never air gone but it's coming up and I'm like three plays in a row and two minutes I do that it was in the morning so you know what I mean I'm watching more everybody else and you rarely you know it goes out there occasionally third down I was like you know he's gonna pick me you know what I mean so effect it's kind of it's also kind of an advantage in the way but it's also exciting like okay I'm gonna get the hardest look you know those are real real reps you know the things some

really out on our way to kind of process and I was like hey when they tell me they'll let me know but I'm just gonna train it I was training all left toe t.a.s I guess if I didn't hear anything about t.a.s I came in like so you know what I mean because just like I'm cool with training both continuing I would have been cool training both continually but I feel like anybody any position will be like okay like you want as soon as possible give your feet kind of subtle and your hips subtle and your hands so then certain kind of what it would have been harder to hit your work both there he goes he's no but they're definitely but in terms of the development it's definitely a lot faster if you're staying on one side but I think having that the weeks that we had to transition with seasons over I'd like to respond you know it would be good um we'll try to meet up with them in a few weeks things at a time right now but

when it comes back I'm gonna show them to you on the house I've got a house is not too far from so I told them I got that house like I could yell outside communication with the team you know I was communicating with guys left and right and you know front office coaches teammates and all I care about is how I am with my teammates I don't want them to ever think I don't care about them or how I'm not in it and you know you can say whatever you want about me besides that but I always dedicate anything I can't and I don't want that every question I said that it felt like sometimes you were hold up somewhere watching film you texted with those they say hey you missed this or you want to tweet that well like the first day he was batting all of Russ's passes so I had to let him know you know I you got to take advantage of that you got to make sure guys are you know know that you you still care and you still want to be a part

of this you know just watch and practice there's a couple of little things we're doing different um whether I'm communicating with Gumbarr or other people you know so here that you're also talking with him and you give him pointers during the off season just a constant communication how do you see who grows a person you know and far as how he's approaching things how he getting ready for this season from you know I think the thing with Keanu is he's more comfortable you know you know it's the first time around the track um you know it's actually like you can you know uh catch his feet under him you know I always think when you're rookie season you're going from bowl game I don't know Wisconsin playing the bowl game sorry Wisconsin I don't even know but um you know personally I just think when you go from bowl game to training for the combine to you know rookie minicamp OTA's the you know many can I mean to train the camp the regular season you really don't get a time to really catch yourself um you know you understand to play book now um you can be more vocal um you know

I think with my absence the other guys absence um you know you need guys like that to step up and be ready for those opportunities so they can be sure you have the same you have during the season or uh what was um just tightened down everything um you know on my left side uh because I was over-compensating a little bit um but you know it was it wasn't anything that's lingers um you know I'll say this uh a groin is not like an ACL it's not like anything's ever going to get back to it again and you know you know feeling good um able to do everything squat and heavy with power and speed so you know it feels good to get after it now do you think of what the team was able to accomplish it's not easy in terms of bringing guys like wrestling you know I think they're all good acquisitions but you know you never want to be known as a paper champ so I can't win the off season um I think the work gets done out here on the field gets done in the classroom um it gets done training um you know and then you see where you're

at in training camp and then you build on that um you know I think we got the right guys in the building um it's just about uh putting a complete team on the field can you have 10 for causes to separate the business part of the game and the actual football player you know you always want to you always have to treat it like a business because um you know one day it's going to end and that's been a job it's not like in college where you know you got four years guarantee um well now you don't even know what NIL knows crap transfer portal portal but um you know you have to I still have love for this game and I still work my tail off and I still put everything into it and that's not going to change but you have to know what you bring to the team and what your which value is can you have your own did it feel to be out there with your teammates today emotionally great you know um we got a new uh we got a new training staff and still learning the warm up a little different

uh but uh you know I loved it uh you know just getting after it um learning new guys going through the same drills I've been doing by myself uh I actually like having more people around because like kind of go stir crazy crazy when it's just you and another guy you're like damn I got to go back up for another rep already um and so um you know it's nice to be up here and give a chance uh you know be with my god can we come up there and we'll get done with your emotion oh I'm gonna try to remain pretty neutral because uh I don't want to be too either way um all I know is I want to be here um but we'll see what happens um it's my last year here I've had a great career here but uh I look forward to playing actually you know with that second surgery you said at this time it was on the left side was the first time around on the right side right side during the season left side and that was just

tightened down my core muscle um it wasn't the same as my adductor um you know you can ask doctor Bradley Dr. Zuckerbron who uh did the surgery as well um you know if anything it's going to help me and you know make me a lot stronger from here on up Tyson oh I've been training with him for the last eight years um we've always trained together um we got a trainer up north uh shout cohali who's my guy trained trained trained uh heath miller um breckeesle um multitude of guys that I'll respect um and we've just been getting after can we do very few guys historically 35 they paid big contracts and he that's held against you I think there's not a lot of history behind it um but you know for me I look at as I'm not looking to be like anybody else um you know my game is different from everybody else and asleep you know um I like to think you know I can play the run in the pass um and that's where I'm different

um you know um I remember last year Mike T just brought to my attention you know the thing that's really cool is you watch powerlifters and you know my game's built on powering technique and those guys going to the forties um and so um you know that's what kind of research I'm doing on the high this seems but um you know I we'll see what happens um there's not a lot of history but I'm here to make history and I'm here to you know I'm gonna know the super wall here and you know have a great season do you have a set goal for yourself or how many years you want to play in the other country you just take things here right here you know um it was it was top answering that question right after the season um I will say this guys I can't keep answering that question right after the season that is not fair to the season that's not fair to my family you know but in my mind I got three years and I want to maximize them I want to play at a high level and I want to go deep into playoffs um and you know we got a good team and I'm going to do my part to be ready for all

those situations I have not even thought that far I'm taking a day by day you know I told my agent and we talked about it and we were cool coming out here um you know I'll be here for many um and then I'll be there for training. I don't know what the work entails but when we get there what what cross-out works? Why didn't God bring you more remain a student? You know um it was a conversation between me Omar and my team and there's certain guys there are one helmet guys you know and I want to be one of those one helmet guys and you know there's a hunger and desire there but that doesn't mean just hanging it up and calling a career to me I think um you know I got more bullets to fire and you know I'm excited to do that. What's the meaning last one

can you and Russell Wilson are going to be out there with Walter Mim? What's pain in the year? I saw Russ's on social media but I have been out of chance to see it I like the surprise happens when it happens but you know it's cool to have another Walter Mimie year winner um you know I think it's an honor to be there and I want I'll say one thing I won't be here I'm just telling you guys so it's not a big deal I won't be here because I have to do a Walter Mimie year thing on Thursday so it's not like I'm skipping so all right but uh you know it's an honor to be with Russ and you know it's an honor of doing things in the community you know doing great work and you know the cool thing is as much as we get honored and nominated for these things the work doesn't stop and I can see that with Russ this foundation you know we had an event for our foundation and my mom was quick to

you know tell Russ hey we need the partners somehow and I was like mom let's just enjoy the event but you know it's uh it's really cool to you know be a part of a lead group all right thank you thank you well it's been good I mean just trying to just a different way of play different terminology different it's a whole different scheme so just learning how they want things done compared to how you used to do how you used to do things is really the what's it like being in that tight end room everybody's got that skills everybody's different but y'all do some at the same place right yeah no it's a great room a lot of really good guys uh grown really close with a lot of those guys so uh everybody helps each other uh a really nice learner from Dalton breadin those guys I mean Dalton's done it for a really long time so he helps me a lot with things that really aren't coachable things you know I mean you mentioned how the family at the game but what about working out here at this high school you're still in Ohio yeah yeah yeah yeah I want to lecture tonight about the eighth of the

size of this place uh yeah this is not like my high school but this is a healthy place uh the super cool would be home and just be back and give you a little sense of comfort I guess for me especially being my way for as long as I've been so I wasn't in the kind of war around the city and you see much of my fans and I wanted to get your autographs and you know you've probably been here I don't get I don't go out of the hole I actually went home yesterday I went back to the farm for a little bit uh which was great a couple days he did with my family and stuff and see my grandparents and everything so it was good uh but I really haven't been out enough to know so I try and keep her inside yeah that's a good question I don't think that's for for me I'm just trying to give I mean every time I think you can be as you can play this game for 50 years and there's always going to be something you leave the field with like I wish I would have been better in that area I wish it would have been better in some other you know what I mean like it's never going to be this is absolutely perfect so like to me that's all right right now the hardest part of this

is just mental toughness of it all I mean physical toughness I mean you either have out of your don't in my opinion so I mean I've always felt like I was kind of bred in that area with things and that's just kind of way happens naturally so just play after play that's kind of how we roll okay thank you guys yeah we are now we gotta get you on the button yeah I was growing immensely I mean uh KLAP makes a lot of checks late then makes a lot of checks uh I listen to them whatever they need if I need to cover somebody out I'll go cover anybody if they need me to uh do run support I'll do run support and it's really uh what KLAP does what we do and lathe and it just goes back to the coach G's preparation and everyone's preparation to give us more flexibility and it doesn't matter who's in those positions and we can all play every position whether it's covering somebody or running running and tackling did you feel like that was the case before the Oregon game you're sharing upsammy is that something's been added uh it just you know rely on a little bit more go ahead yeah it did I've probably been a broska game uh me getting more safety reps and we had a five week

to prepare so I really learned to play but a lot more even though I knew the playbook I learned a lot more it amount like in debt you know so uh really just after the Oregon game it helped me a lot to go back to safety go go to nico and everywhere you guys had a lot of issues of giving up big plays in the passing game of the first game against Oregon what do you feel like you guys need to do better this time around just to make sure that doesn't happen uh just the same same mindset we got to challenge these receivers um you know every dog has their day maybe some people didn't have their day that that game but um we'll look out there and hopefully change the narrative and we still play with the same confidence same technique and yeah they'll remain what's the best and Denzel obviously had a tough game and that one what have you seen from him and how he's responded do you get a sense of from him how he's for this rematch oh yeah he's super stoked for this rematch

his preparation has been very good um he's always been preparing you know it didn't go the way he wanted to go that game but he just always had had his confidence and we're going to see a big game out of him uh this week and you know I know you guys wanted to play them in anapolis but the fact that you get to play them at the Rose Bowl I mean get a second chance and people have said you don't get that very often how determined are you guys to take advantage of it oh we're super super determined we watch film I mean we've lost a lot of film the first time we play them now we've got another six games that they played up film to watch and it's just they've grown a lot as a team same as us we've grown a lot we're not the same team we were when we played them week one or weeks six or whatever but now we're out there and going to play fast physical and everything like that all right Jordan we're gonna jump to the to assume a question here from Joey Kaufman Columbus this match oh my bad not to join camera T. Robinson the athletic

hey it's Jordan um you've moved around a lot in the second day in your career and now kind of getting some many more safety reps what is it like at this point when when Walt or Coach Mills comes to you and asks you to do some else and just how much can you lean on the experiences you've had moving around when you're trying to learn something new in the middle of the season uh means a lot we always talk about when this is being on selfish uh whether that's making plays or not making plays or doing your job so another person can make plays that's kind of what we pride ourselves on and it's just fun me moving around different positions uh I'm always up for a new challenge and a lot of people in the country can't do that I just hold myself to that standard where I can play any position and excel at it okay uh if anybody else needs a question let me know but otherwise we can go to Austin more of the podcast Jordan when you were talking about watching film or again which one do you think is more valuable to you watching that against yourself

you know seven games ago even if you've changed or the ensuing six games for Oregon which one do you put more stock in uh kind of both for me uh I kind of watch what I did things I did well things I didn't do too well against them and their team is that like their scheme has changed some players have been out uh those those stretch of games so uh I really watched the past game we played and I know they're gonna go back to some of the stuff that they liked of course and different games like Penn State maybe Illinois they run a lot of men so just watching watching stuff like that every game matters so yeah Jordan thank you very much thank you shoot ourselves a foot hat on a hat in the run game how do I have in the passing game and really just stop getting it wrong way CJ first couple of weeks it looks like you've been knowing more comfortable with off-script plays and and taking more risk what you say that's that's something that's overdubbed this year for you uh I mean yes and no you know I don't

choose a run I run what I have to um I feel like I am I giant I can't get out but you know I definitely you know try to read the defense to get my guys the ball um because they're they're usually open every time so you know it's just up to the pocket and you know navigate and that try to make my line arrive also you know if I have to extend the play CJ you guys started going to last year's night to know how much different the things feel this year and now you've had the whole season of your belt would have you learned where do you feel like you guys are going to oh it's too I'm going to go into it's a lot worse than two know so you know I'm definitely grateful definitely you know blessed we playing this great game um but you know it's definitely a lot of things we can clean up I think around the league you can see that though you know what I mean a lot of sloppy ball you know some some teams playing better than others but I definitely know that you know section 4 was not what we put on the field today but you know at least in the second half and would definitely be better for sure you and you go connect it on a couple of the scrambled

trail style plays is that something you guys work on actively is that a focus of yours no it's just two guys out there making plays you know we have a drill that we do our practice to you know it does help those things but you know trying to just be two guys be dynamic players yeah for sure I think me and Nico we've always had a good relationship and always you know you read each other well on the field but I think even now you know we'll take the next steps um and you can see you know step get involved more tank get involved Dalton breath we're just trying to spread it around you know and we have so many dynamic players um so you know it's a good problem to have you know obviously you know all two are better than things in that nature how do you balance you guys have the win but you said you guys been put on Texans football how do you kind of balance on the correct order mistakes but while also you know celebrating the win that you guys just had today football it's hard to win NFL I'm happy um of course I'm not satisfied I'll

never be satisfied there's always things that you can point out um we're not going to let one half a football make make us put our head and we're going to stay confident we're going to stay taking shots we're going to stay you know betting on us um so I definitely you know understand you we need to be better but you know like like you said um winning is number one so we won and now it's time to move on and get better uh see if you can tell a little bit about what pan ii has meant to the team over these past two weeks and as a quarterback as an offense does having a kicker that can hit for long range like that consistency if you guys a little bit of extra confidence you know once you get over 50 yeah any guys in his aims man um super happy and proud of him and he broke a record today or something like that so um you know we definitely need him you know all points are big points um and i definitely think like the preparation and just who he is at practice you know you can you know that he's going to knock it down just because how hard he is on himself doing practice and you know it was a great job our special teams today um blocking it

also you know point uh Tommy doing his his job as well so you know it takes three phases for water for a while game all right here's a little get those numbers i promised was not long 4 6 0 2 now through 17 career games remember is the couple a year ago due to that concussion so reaches his full quote unquote first season at least from a game standpoint here in week two of year two to shroud when we looking up at a few you it's different for me uh really like a ball player type of guy not very not the most how-going and vocal but we're not we're not talking i realize that people listen so just take

more of that type of aspect into my game just you know making me more complete as a football player i'm learning to do something i would you see maybe change a little bit with coach hardline if it had been different all and maybe whether it be other coaches coach Jordan or players stepping up time to get that through um i want to say a change much he's still super involved the all shots of stay gates with us guys i mean he he's the ocean now and he's more skimmed schematic and everything now but he's still keeping that relationship strong with us it's still really in there with the civic learning uh shot off the coach Jordan as long stepping up taking the bigger little coach Jordan's been a huge factor in our learning since i've been here so it's a big process because Jordan has been here how do you feel like the spring's gone for you obviously you've done this now uh just what have you taken from us obviously um extremely comfortable super confident in my ability to do what i do uh just building just building that trust with my quarterback just pretty much what i came in when i do just let them know uh that they got to they got

to revive the opposite of the third chain next time it's on the field and uh you know just establishing that uh showing the like i said ready to show my young guys uh i found a day some example i want to come in and do and what's the expectation what's on the other side wasn't i'll be real found you last year when he did caught yeah obviously trust with you to certain extent how long have you felt yourself building that trust with Lincoln uh i think it's been good uh just being more vocal with them guys as well uh me and will are very vocal even in practice a lot of times uh just things they go my way in the game but even in practice a lot i was very comfortable with uh more vocal guys uh but working that on my quarterback's now and they're doing better job just going to the receivers and taking our feedback not more as criticisms but just because we love it and you just do it so uh just doing that and uh just keep growing on that all the way to fall and all the different games and stations you are you doing some more outside for years stuff as well uh yeah i've been more the more years you get under your belt the more

experience you get you can start knowing this offense more and more not just your position on what you're doing like everybody's job what you're doing how you're doing and why you're doing it so i mean uh yeah i've been i've been wrapping the outside zxh anywhere coach hung on me is me that james really be that guy and go make a play on it what's the biggest difference for you between outside and outside the game um the pace uh a route concept you can kind of get the pace you can play within the slots more for next game in the slot uh something i got very comfortable with uh just the ways you can attack the defense i think uh just you know conceptually and also just uh you're placed down you know uh but i mean just doing both and just making me a better guy for the NFL and that's what coach hung on the pizza time uh producer only fell talent and producing NFL guys uh i'm feeling very comfortable with it do you have to have a different mindset as a slot receipt because it's going to be long and long and long and long and long and long and long absolutely i think it's more thinking i think it's more of uh you have to have a understanding of the game a lot and the slot you gotta have a feel that have this is natural i feel like it's

more natural conditioning and on the outside it's just more you know get different things and see different coverage and see more see different fair types of corners and nickel bats and safeties more in the slot so just seeing how you can attack knowing your person now how you can attack some people as i say the biggest difference do you have that more courage? you have that more courage oh yeah absolutely it's basically like being myself in the slot uh faster my skinnier guy than when i put hands on it when i get physical with you but you just gotta match that and just let them know that uh you there too so you was in a balanced question whatever gets you on to regardless inside outside i'm just willing to make plays and show one one the best receivers in America so that's in the outside that's in the inside uh whatever coach hung on in this team needs me out by the end and show them what the best they see in America and anything i'd like to make you feel certain at that time at halftime you go back to zero zero the score they scored a thing and a half we knew they got the ball back um the defense wasn't quite happy that they gave that touchdown to end and um we knew they get in the ball back coming out but we was

excited because we knew the job wasn't done yet bill rebellious Columbus this back um you were a five star guy and that coming up all these guys at the room almost were five star guys and then there's Jeremiah is he like does he like all you guys in the room uh i mean i'm not sure it's probably something you gotta ask him but you know Jeremiah has played with a lot of great guys throughout his career he's seen a lot uh all the talent you can see in the world um but i don't know if he's ever in all but i mean oh yeah i mean i'm not surprised at anything he does now like i've i've seen him since i we were nine years old so anything he does anyone hand catch i've seen i'm not surprised at anything he does when he was nine yeah do you know this is not a this is something special we've been met maybe that nine oh yeah i mean coaches were coming up to us complaining that we we weren't nine years old like can we can we get their IDs and stuff

like that um so i mean i mean there's definitely some footage that we gotta go find but the plays we used to make when we're younger and just to see where he is now it's amazing and it seems very unaffected by all of the starter yeah how does how that happened uh i think how he was raised um he's just he's very level-headed he knows his goals and what he wants to get done in life and this is just one step of the way for him uh throw it back to texas for a couple uh questions on zoom Scotty yes sir we're gonna start with defon from cleveland.com go ahead braining i want to go back to what you were talking about with with coach day uh earlier you know whenever he talks about this team success he says all the credit goes through players that seems like the players think that he deserves some of the credit how how how big how influential has he been you know in the turnaround you guys have had these last few weeks oh he's a bit huge man coming here after that team of north-laws you know his heart breaking of course but we came in here

we had a leadership meeting and he was in here i mean and then we had a team meeting after that um hearing the stuff he had to say and we had to say going back and forth um we just we knew we we have his back no matter what i mean there's a lot of stuff said about him and his family and stuff like that but hey here we're a brotherhood and we're a family and we just we go stand by him no matter what our next question is gonna come from dan hope dan go ahead branded i mean i'm sure you came in here to a Ohio state thinking you'd probably be starting here in your second year but it seems like you really embraced the growth process just what's kind of that process been like for you have kind of embracing your role this season and continuing to develop yeah um in life things doesn't go the way you exactly planted too and that's just it happened um you know things happened to mecca last year that allowed him to come back and that allowed me to learn more and that's just how i see it makes me a better football player for the future um so yeah i mean yeah yeah let's see it three more on zoom next one's gonna come from

steffen um means go ahead i'm steven but that's dark yeah you're good it's but branded there are a lot of clips of you this year where you're super super excited after a block and kind of showing your emotion there what about blocking do you love so much as a receiver just being able to hit another guy with all my all my power the hardest i can without any get any consequences except if except if you hold of course but um yeah just bringing that power i mean i heard some of the defensive guys telling me yesterday they were like bro i hate to go against you so knowing that from the defensive guys um so i know what the other defensive guys are thinking like just keep bringing it so that they they're not gonna like it for four quarters that's my mindset next question is gonna come from dany davis dany go ahead and brennan um what are your impressions of these texas defensive acts and this kind of we've

seen from them on on film so far um yeah the last couple days we watched them um they're fast team um they don't give up many big plays downfield um they're aggressive but i actually know some of the the debees they have uh at corner there oh my play with them oh well i played with muleek mohamma that sfe so i might know him a little bit and um we have a watching them they're fast team they're physical they're disciplined but we just gotta get the job done give any malik stories or any any what do you say? do you think you want to give any malik stories or anything you remember about playing with them? um yeah but i'm not gonna say them here uh yeah what's this keep that yeah our final question is gonna come from Kurt Bolz Kurt go ahead? hey brennan uh one of the issues texas has had the second half of the year is it's finishing and uh what if you can speak to uh and they had a trouble obviously in the peach bowl you know

blue with sixteen point league and you talk about finishing and having a killer in sync and and you guys obviously seem to have that now yeah um i think that starts to start it in uh offseason training at fall camp we always say go plus two if if you're doing a ten yard pro shuttle do uh you have to go plus two throughout the line and that's just finishing it was well and then fall camp we had these long two and a half hour practices or whatnot and then we came out and we had to do these um finishers we called them ask for games late in the year like this and we um i think coach day has a great did a great job preparing all of us for these moments and yeah we just were ready to go we have time for just a couple more questions and clumpets so we can wrap up with our other two guys uh bill landis kinksland in north right um sure maybe on the second touchdown around it seemed like you took two players out of the play first with your release and then with the guy you actually blocked is that is that how it's designed or is it just

was it lucky to be the guy decided to take off inside of the release um it's actually designed for me to block the safety and lead uh the corner one on with the running back um but i was surprised the at the corner actually came in so far my least i think he thought it was a pass um but i think he was the edge of the defense if you if you go watch that play but i don't know i i don't really know why he came in so far but it helped out for us and i made my block in terry on score is there any lesson there for like even a young receiver watching that that even if you know him a play you're not getting the ball you're you're intended to block but you you're release has to be at all point like as if you're gonna go pitch pass yeah definitely um every little detail matters and then type of plays we were in a red zone there so we say every yard matters it's two yards um so the block i made it's just a testament to cow coach hardline prep prep me throughout the week to make that block so yeah and final question joy conference tolemise this patch rannin will and then there's been some of the ball deep well lately um some of

especially the way you guys have opened games what do you think is this clip for you guys and for him and watching those buzz um a lot more confidence i say throughout the year um um we were always there's offense we had we didn't know we didn't quite know our identity and now slowly but surely i think we found that and we're gonna keep on rolling and um he's made some great throws and yeah i'm sorry rannin i do have one more steep that way into the twenty four seven sport yeah brana there've been opportunities for you to to play a huge roll on offense and you know the number of plays you play a game can differ from one week to the next but the opportunity is coming sooner rather than later for you to be in every down player just what are the things you need to do in your game to take it to where it is now to be in every down guy i think there's a lot of things i could work on in my game um i would say continuing to be football smart by iq just knowing what the defense is gonna do before they do it um about routes always can

get better my hands always can get better staying on the jugging machine um work ethic keep on top big don't get don't get satisfied with anything i do and don't don't get too big don't get too low don't get too high don't get too low it's what they say yeah you feel like a guy that the people follow it seems like just in your mind even though just second your guy that you're kind of working toward being kind of a leadership type guy yeah um i got but to have guys that will take that role yeah um it's a great feeling of course the no guys are watching what you do and listening to what you do um but i just feel like we we do that with a lot of players here and not just myself but the leadership we have on this team is like no other and that's why we got so far i think Brandon thank you very much not knowing anything but to go hard and put his head down i'm super super proud of will and i think we can't feed off each other you know he was a lowly or under recruited guy out high school so he they always knows this is to go hard and

what that looks like so i'm proud of him man what do you think next time that's awesome a lot a lot of skill i mean the guy um he fits the room personality wise john he would tell you that um he's fun to be around he's an outstanding ground runner and he's uh he wants to get better he's hungry so he's a great addition we think a lot of people from the outside will see and new guy comes in and you guys have two or five guys who do like they can get reps to maybe some people want to tell us some of you guys would be why why would you guys say why is this group so deep and state even though you guys brought anything out yeah i mean i think it's just a testament to like how strong this brotherhood is you know when uh when coach told us that we were bringing him back so i just um i thought it's a great opportunity for me that i can i can worship stuff and he's a great player and i already have that he's our stuff for me and and will and i think now we are something really big guys in the room we just say fresh it was lor i could try there and ultimately become the best players we can be i think it was it was like we said yeah i saw that it was like like take him

i'm not sure you're not watching for these offense for you guys to get ready but how quick did you kind of realize that like this guy's legit like you see the numbers you see it come one you realize like this guy's you're real good uh but what i bet on the first day he was class act and for me i think character's a big thing um i had a really medical football player and as i have good cares for him uh and i met him the first day i knew that he was a hard worker that came in here just grinding and uh you know it's showing right now in the field it's going great yeah i mean i just i'm not i'm not really focused on specific areas you know obviously i want to uh become a more polished route runner um and they get better at blocking and they get better in the past rotation so real i'm just working on everything man and hopefully you know to get all this together and i think um i've really good here because it's real good to have the only touchdown catch from one of the point of action where i'm at. Yeah tools yeah yeah that was cool how's the cool man we had with him. How's that good working with Jordan and

Lincoln so far? You guys were some person a little? Yeah it's great you know i remember when Lincoln first got here i was dragging him out to the fields uh throw with me so uh me and Lincoln get way back and on 41st got here i loved Julian and even Tavius coming in and he's uh he's impressed me so there's been a lot of talk about the quarterback existing in the leadership that coaches want to see i mean how we received those three guys coming marriage you know as leaders and that role. Yeah i think they at first weren't nowhere near as vocal as uh will was we'll got here but i think they're really stepping up in that in that role and we're with the truly good to see. All right then thank you. Awesome thanks guys. Uh i mean just how i was raised i just know how to work that's all i had to do. Just giving effort and just going east out of it. I want to say this with full respect. When we see JJ and Sonny it's like that makes sense. When you're the third guy were you surprised to be named what puts you in that same category? Yeah i was a little surprised. I kind of have

feeling because like the kind of like i mean i kind of could have guessed it but like i just i just knew like um i was one of my goal to talk to him behind Buckeye and i just put in the work that was in the back. So what did you get in house? What did you mean? How did you take it? Um it was really special right after a text message and they really knew what it meant until like the video came out and the question explained it to us so then so then uh absolutely totally okay uh i guess we're gonna have to go back and play off. It was playing a full back then right bar and games. Did you think you'd tell the difficulties of going back and forth? Not just like we were learning that we actually had to play both of those five games. Um yeah it's pretty difficult especially during game you have to put the whole mind around. It's a lot easier in practice because it's like getting like several down but like going left and right in game. It's pretty hard but like like in high school like i was it was every other player i was in back foot with the triple out. So like i knew i knew it um uh it was comfortable with it and sometimes i just take a one walk into

a line to line scrimmage that like uh say it to be the say a play again. Again one more time so my head. Yeah so like i got to set the example um and then like like my first two weeks here i was like teaching them like like telling them like what they're expecting these plays because i've seen some new place with them and even new defense so like like technique two for the time keeps in technique but um just helping them out because we need it all. What do you like when did the idea of playing tackle kind of come about? They do it about like raf? The season? Those are pretty going game. What did you think when you had a bad experience about? Um it came close to springtime. They want to have um they just want to have a good five out there and like they want to play the best so that they just won't make a change. What do you want to do all of such a high school? They're awesome they're great a lot of a lot of eyes and it's awesome because everyone's watching something it's not like

someone's only watching this place so you know what's going on. We've got to feedback to you like after a play after a practice for me. It's awesome uh they can they tell you like everything because they know like what's the left side had with uh like coach Johnson and coach Dinky's watching left and coach on the phone and feels a lot of fun right so like you really you know what's going on. How was the experience that you got the big reps and the big games all that helped like coming into the side? It really boosted my confidence um and like and uh I can like leave the young guys too because I know it's going on because they really don't really miss this first time spring so like they don't know. My stuff's like just that leadership of them. Resortility has also been mentioned a lot. It's been all both sides of the wall playing in different spots. You know I write on that. Yeah um this yeah I can beat that question in the time. Can you just talk about the versatility that coach Jason's been talking a lot about that up? Well it says a lot of you guys in different spots being able to win. Yeah so like I mean you all you all seen it last year we lost two stars all

maybe started so like really guys he stepped up and like going to season I didn't know I was in the playing started uh left guard and then I didn't really know I was going to bounce over to the right and what a Donnie knew he's on the bounce out to tackle so like it really helps everyone like I think a lot of guys this season are playing more compositions and it's going to help us in football. But if you learn from Donnie and jogger, sat in all family. Just like technique wise they really helped me like pretty snap stuff and like no one was like what's going to go as you got it's right in my um right place and stuff. All right thank you thank you. That's the years that's only going to motivate him more so it's fueled to the fire which I think is good for us heading into this week. What was the first moment that you saw him and tell us this could be something? I would say probably just his mindset not even obviously he's a you know he's a he's a freak when it comes to you know you know his body and stuff like that just his physical nature but I think just

his mindset the way he approached the weight room it didn't really seem like a way of freshman wood he was our only freshman ever to receive you know a iron buck-eye reward which you know something I was pushing towards my my entire time being here but you know it takes another level of duty to be able to receive that reward especially as a freshman so you know that's kind of when I knew. Steve it means more on that when you and Mara first got here Gary and Chris were out of it about the way that you guys even as freshmen were pushing two guys who were about to be first strong drop picks and then Mara kind of said the same thing about Karnatlin Brandon last year how did JJ push you guys when he first got here as the young guy and now you guys are the older guys. Yeah I would say it's very similar it's kind of the same exact thing and I'm you know I don't know what it is about the culture and its all sex but we keep bringing in these type of people year in and year out that that's what makes our room so great but I think that something that JJ was able to push me and was just you know he was able to push me in my leadership I need to

do growing that aspect but he also was able to challenge me when it came to the weight room and on the field because we were always always paired together when it came to summer and when our workouts were always lifting together you know I get a couple wins he get a couple wins so I'm really that next level step of competitiveness that I needed and that edge that I needed. That Murphy 2474. You guys came into the Tennessee game with a lot of outside motivation with Michigan loss and kind of a three weeks talk I know obviously there's still not motivation to go on and win a national championship but how do you keep that kind of edge to a better term mentally after some of that stuff has kind of gone away I would say kind of you lose your edge I wouldn't really call you a true competitor I think that you know the way with the college football playoffs is structured the intensity cranks up weekend every every single week so if you're not more intense than you were the last week then then something's wrong with you I think that you know Tennessee was a great win great for our momentum but we have

our full focus on Oregon not worrying about anything in the past nothing in the future our full focus is towards this game and then you know we win this one we go on to the next one our full focus is going to be on that one so it's just you keep moving down a ladder like this. Change the college football playoffs makes it that nature but you know the way in some of you and some of your teammates and coaches talking about the Rose Bowl seems like that's one game that's really you know maintain a lot of that tradition you you play the net you know what it's about could you explain it to you know honestly we would never have a chance to play that why the Rose Bowl does maintain you know that level of respect from players and coaches. Yeah I think I don't know they're just something about it some in the air down there in Pasadena it's just a beautiful venue especially that time of the year like you said the tradition is held year and then you're out and it's kind of the the game you dream of playing in when you're a little kid you know playing backyard football with your friends the Rose Bowl is always one that that tends to come up so just having a chance to play in it is definitely very surreal and this is going to be my second time so I'm going to do my best to take it all in while also being fully

focused on Oregon. Dan both let me worry. Matthew Will study still has nine minutes about that first game in Oregon just what kind of drive you seem to him this week wanting to get back to yeah Will is he's a laser focused person he goes about his business he's very loose and he's very calm and he's able to rally the team but you can see it in his eyes that this this game means everything to him so every single practice every single huddle making sure we're sharp making sure we have a you know a better practice than we had last than yesterday a better practice in Oregon's having so his full focus is on being this team and you know obviously it's it's hard not to think about the stuff of the past but I know he's he's laser focused on what we got coming up um honestly I wasn't I was never really a a bug I fan until you know I really committed here and I and I saw what it was all about I was actually an Oregon fan growing up especially on the

Pacific Northwest um you know my grandpa went to UW and stuff like that so I like the Huskies too but there was a legendary football player named fo2liato from my high school and he went to Oregon and a couple you all probably know that story from a couple of years back but he tragically died in the car accident um and you know he was he was someone I looked up to in high school um you know I was relatively close with him even though he was a bit older than me in age but I'm just seeing what he did at my high school and then going on to play big time football Oregon that was a school that I really dreamed of going to um they build a bit like this back I think actually another uh Jeremiah question is there one moment one play one something that made you go oh man I've never seen before that just incredible yeah I'll say it's happened multiple times there's not really one I can pinpoint but uh the more he does it the more um I tend to react less so I would say probably my earliest memories of it were in spring bowl um kind of getting the first glimpse

of him when he's making all these ridiculous catches and he still does it time and time again even now but it's just more common now for me the land that one that's uh gave the north but you had uh I think it was 12 touches in the first game against Oregon ten receptions two carries this there's something about this matchup that favors you and now that you have where that productive the first time you played this team what kind of attention or I guess maybe different defenses are you expecting to see? yeah I mean uh we're not entirely sure what their game plan is going to be but we're paired for everything um you know I'm not going to get too much into scheme and stuff like that but uh we know that if the ball comes our way we've got to make those plays so whether I have ten receptions again coming up this game where I have zero or one um we're just looking to to get this win on the road um because it's really a road game for us you know flying across two times also um I think that uh you know it's going to be a great matchup um whether they tend to focus on me uh more or or not it doesn't really matter to me um because I know our team has a great plan regardless

you can kind of feel it throughout the game I would say um you know he's he's a true competitor he wants to get involved but at the same time he's super selfless um he's really humble so he's going to do whatever it takes for the team to get a win um but it's the competitive nature and and that wants to you know contribute as much as he can so um you know I try to be in his ear to to tell him to be levelhead and stuff like that not that I need to he's a very level headed and selfless guy like I'm saying but um you know sometimes that's just how the game goes you know I had out of game this year where I only had one catch um but you know we ended up winning by lot so um I think that you know it's it's hard or it's easy to be focused on the uh the personal attributes that you could have game in and game out but no one's really going to remember those if we're holding up the trophy at the end of the year he could be a number one I think 95% of the bar also is right now but he's like the number three you see his work as like all of those things that he goes and there makes a play you guys ever come behind him like yeah this guy can absolutely be a number one of those guys the bar also I would disagree with you I think that he is a number one I think that we don't have a number three receiver I think we have three

number one receivers out there so um whatever the defense you know if they want to put their attention on one guy or or a couple of us um they're not really doing themselves any favor because we're gonna have a favor will match up on the other side of the ball so um that's never how we view ourselves we know we're alpha dogs out there every single one of us um knows we have the capabilities to be a number one receiver and we are number one receivers and final question Steve how long and 24 hours works yeah mech Athena that game you made one of the clutch plays that passed down the sideline at any time when you make that play you think and did you ever your mind that we're gonna win this game after we we're now close to field goal range I mean did that play in your mind say my goodness we've got a chance to get out of here with the win uh yeah I definitely knew where I caught the ball and I knew we were you know closer being in field goal range so you know there was a sense of you know I knew I knew it was a big play that I made but um in those moments you have to finish out the game no matter what you can't get a big head you can't get complacent you have to finish the game um and until the clock hit zero so that's something we've

been working on you know we work on two minute every single Wednesday um every single Wednesday practice so today we'll work on our two minute um and we don't even call it two minute we call it clutch because um in in those time in those in those games in those big moments someone has to make a clutch play so we're focusing on on that every single game knowing that we're gonna have to make one of those plays coming down the stretch here what it mean if you're able to finish this one off and get to the final four this and play out just what in your mind just would this be you know just the the ultimate I suppose to be a team that's already beaten earlier this year no I think the ultimate would be winning the national championship so um you know we're focused on this this just happens to be the next team in the way we're not focused on when we played them earlier this year whether they got the win over us um they're just a nameless faceless opponent so we're going out there fully prepared not worried about what's happening in the past um you know we played them before we felt the mouse so it's all about who got better from that point in time until now a method thank you thank you um we're a little bit by committee in the back uh back in on

part returning uh Brennan and this is there Mecha's there we'll have a few guys back there we can use um you know I think they'll see a couple of them there but in terms of kickoff return jade bowler will do the first uh the first kickoff we'll go there you well again you know it's coach speech for a reason but it's true uh it's it's a balladar standard and what is our standard one everybody to grade out over 80 percent you've heard us talk about that champions and and that's that's a big part of it and then be the hardest playing team in the country so um if if it's truly not about our opponent and we really embrace that then it shouldn't matter um you know we have to respect everybody we play against we have to respect the game we have

to respect the fact that we only have 12 Saturdays the regular season every year I mean these are precious opportunities for all the work that goes in you know uh to think that you know uh a game would be under value I mean that that's not even on anybody's radar right now you know we have a certain standard that we have to play with we want to come into this game and you know set the tone for the season that that's our goal and then we come in on Sunday and figure out what's right but every season is different you know this this season is what it is and um but that doesn't change our approach into the first game other than you know you just have a different group of guys out there and I think with this group we do have some experienced guys that have played a lot of football we also have some guys who are excited to see on the field you've got guys like Wil Howard and Caleb Downs and uh with Quinchon Jenkins and we have some guys that we haven't seen Wil Kazmarin uh so I think we're all excited to see what those guys looked like in a game and see how they gel with the team.

I don't think anybody forgot about what a great player Mecca Bukh is but seeing him out there healthy is just so exciting and so energetic for our entire offense it just is I mean he's a warrior he's a great player and so um not only do people feel his play out there but they also feel his maturity he's been like that since he's got here though yeah this is not one of those things we just matured last couple years he came in the grown man and he's continued to have an impact on the entire team and nobody was more frustrated than him last year not being able to be 100% so it was great to see him elected a captain especially you know we had a lot of guys that could have been captain but they're great to see him elected captain by his peers and I know he's excited to be 100% going on on Saturday and you know start the season after that. Did it make three days to the opener I'm just one you've heard of bios remorse the more than you have in higher spree mors that instead of chip cally you know me it's two days now he's going to be calling the players yes I'm saying yeah right are you still getting used to that

any Ukraine and I'm I'm different so I got a big one I'm excited I'm excited it's um I'm again we got a long way to go and there's a lot of storms coming and you know nothing's going to be easy it just isn't it's just the way the game football is but I do like the way the offensive staff has come together I like the way they're working together chip has been great with the staff you know he's he's got ideas he's got a different perspective the things are going to look a little different but he's also embraced who we are as an offense and what we do I think Brian Hartline has been unbelievable just in the day to day but what he brings and adjusted fry you know he and Tim Drebno they they've done a nice job working together I keyed in Bailey I call us lock one I mean I think it's a good move together I think we all worked well together but you know it's going to be a long road so that chemistry is going to be very important but I'm a defensive side again I feel that same chemistry I think the staff is strong right now and it has to be because you know we're in for a long road here last question Cameron T. Roberts it does

allow you to step back and just perceive things differently just notice things different you're able to put your arm around some players and have a conversation with them much more involved in special team which has been exciting and that allows me to coach some of the guys on defense I think the guys feel that part of it being able to sit in on other meetings it's been good even if you know I don't have a lot of input just to be in the room and give a little feedback here and they're even on the defensive side to say you know here's how the offense is approaching this is this is that perspective so that's been great a little bit more time than myself where I can get my thoughts together on how I want to message the team and areas that I want to make sure I'm challenging the staff with and the staff meetings so I think all that's allowed me to do that which I think it's it's helped the team out I think it's helped the culture out I think the coaches feel good about that part of it but but Chip has been great and you know there's there's a lot of inputs from everybody on that staff together I think that's what makes Chip a great coach is you know he he trusted staff the guys that are around them

but he also is firmly believes in something coach thank you very much thank you folks yeah the mecca of Bucca on the cold line need to be leader of defense and here to lead with the team how about you Posi how do you feel like you've been able to step up that one leader um just be able to share my experience I think being an older guy a lot of the other guys look up say the older guys so just being able to do share my experience and be able to teach the younger guys the past all the wisdom that I have with those players so I'm gonna be a better leader I think it applies to me just pretty much just goes I don't like I'll talk to me as well I just let my play do what it does so I have to say miss bro I have you feel me what is it about the Hamilton brothers that don't talk much but let their play I think it just comes from just demeanor just you know it's all going to lot really mess up what's going on it's a big stuff like that so being able to just hone in and be able to play and they're doing less talking

about your play makes you feel happy we'll have a bigger impact on what you see what's the best advice you ever got from your big brother older brother yeah basically very much is like saying this is really the day it's a need you know every day is not promised you know it could be over in the instance so being able to take myself from the field every single day and enjoy every single day no matter how hard it is or in pain I'm just going to say that I'm here and these days are just one you know I know I've actually this couple times in the last couple years but why is it that jump cream on not in the late but y'all work you're in a need for learning in effect you understand more getting on the field why is it you're carrying on late time I think you just got a lot of time to guys here so I mean it's hard to be on the field but like it's hard to understand like being here I'm the great players you know sometimes it's not the time for where you want but just get a understanding that you're trying to come up so I got my time to be able to take a badge of the face and that I'm here I'm just being able to pull the understand and take time really take the answer she is not taking the granted I just like I can say I'm going to feel for like

the she and the speed away to the place to come if you know what's coming up I like when I'm like I can participate when I know what's coming what she knows is pop out so so I'm honestly like in general obviously my first say I was like what did it just happen um so that was awesome that obviously gave me the returning point to like just show the word that I can play and then the one player in Wisconsin you know he was like we need to hear a hear a believe play it's about you definitely I feel like I mean that maybe it's just me but you definitely nervous when you're like getting ready for it but once you know whistle is blown you just locked in you lie back on the practice what you're doing in practice and then you do the life so you're gonna have to be a game

uh so notice respect to any to be or something but honestly I don't care um it's another practice we have as a team and I think I'm sure the rest of the team feels the same way uh we don't care about the cameras it's all nice and flashy but we're about to grind we're about to practice and know we're getting ready to achieve at the end of the season so it's great like seeing like the new faces obviously um I mean I don't get any pressure about it because it's like I said just but not here's to go it's played for the number one or two team here's the remaining six years and so I could not have that one later I said yeah um that was awesome I don't know what happened exactly but I had a way for me

and I followed it and I'm actually thank you for that and I know who did that path for good here so after this first scholarship you know still Germany is working for you guys who uh try to bend and call you um that was really like returning but he was like hey you know like you got to figure something out there's everything what you're thinking who's that and you might might get a good high school in America but I don't know how my mom feels about it but it took like so many this is so yeah this was possible right go ahead and we did did you buy it first at first I was like how do you say in the fabric gasted it and I was honestly like um it sounds like wow but this is real it took me a couple days through the process and then I was prepared to hang whatever it takes went to America and I know the thing my season there and the rest is history yeah I just want to go back to fist five gym basically every day replacing boxing matches did you have to grow into that bring in the next street so it's nice

I feel I always had that idea I think I'm naturally like a nice guy and because they definitely had to push a little bit um so I think you did a great job if I was just being allowed me and you had a time you had time to work with me now for two years and even through um recruiting so I think he did a great job with it what was your main sport oh soccer okay yeah good for you I was pretty good I was really good I was getting recruited by major teams there when I was um yeah man so it's a good thing to look like you interested in yeah America football you know you kind of you kind of grow the sport like like six four and like two and fifty um so just football is different soccer soccer I don't want to disrespect anybody here but it's a little bit softer so it's be here somebody somebody may fall oh fraud I didn't like that because a lot of times it's fake and I didn't like the whole mentality so I was like I did something new and at the same moment football came to my life so I've really come into your life so I live in a small village maybe 200 people for people um there's one guy he was in high school when he went to

high school for home uh his name is Phil McComple and um he was with Ben and as well so Ben and Colleen left the guy so he he really got me into it I was I lived right next to the soccer field he was throwing the football I was just playing soccer and he was I'm gonna try that and it's how I got into it and connected it to Ben and I can't wait to see what I can do off the wall remains that's you know the reason behind that name or how you got me that name so it was kind of like my family was I trying to figure out something with me they need just my brothers name is David my sister things Deborah and my mom is just a damon and something like that and my dad he's like very religious guy he was like this who's like women and the like he's like he's like right over there all over the middle of the night they just said hero my mom was like a shouldle I need to go all out there we're gonna name my son hero and there's enough how I go all the way like usually I feel like you look at the baby first thank you for his name but it kind of came before what do you think about what do you think about I mean I like it it's not my only name my little name

she's my grandma cool she's my wife I'm the sexist so somebody got it right it down okay now but I mean it's not got we've continued to do it for you and I'm just the manager and have that you have to kind of I'm really see I got my father due to it especially my arm length you know so many tools that's pretty good what about coming just coming off the ball you know if you may would create things make that penetration and you know the good off of that you know so many definitely moves that you can do which is kind of our release it's not just like the talent by the guy did it the same appreciation is it fun you know from the series it's a weird having

the guy next to you biology class what's that like when you're kind of working out front of your I think it's a great event that we're having you know you love our students you know just like on game days you know they come to watch you you know it's a discussion film so it's just just kind of getting back doing the game like I was going to see how it will be for the spring game we just happy that day to become a watcher and I'll see you have the spring game coming up this year it's on Fox that say anything about the brand of a high-stayter the group of college football that we're starting to perform before or five practices on network television we've been up for 20 years yeah I'm saying definitely something born that's until we're doing for a spring game you know I've never heard it I've been born you know that's a big thing I that definitely serves the brand that we have here you know it's different than a lot of different schools in the country by way different it's kind of a real kind of thing up and this is definitely a special for us to have the opportunity

all right I'll say it's one of my ice cream career I kind of read out my footages but you know do this process you know post-day you probably over post-day have a really kind of film you know I might go to the future and you know that's years when it's went by you know then it's worked out and it was right how much every year I believe I can't remember everywhere you eight twenty five and I'm at three oh five now so it's definitely to me I don't they don't strike a different you know I may look different but to me I feel like a movement wave faster quicker was supposed to than I ever was and I like as you know it's just one the lines on the paper square you know from your size in high school and just being able to kind of use your size and kind of dominate so learning how to use more size I think my transition this is huge transition I feel like it's not your size what you get here that's one thing

I realized you're doing a long time kind of process because you want to get to run on them and I'll get done in Jackson that's not your own class you like that's way different than anybody in high school and it's more than your size that you have who you kind of did past them it's more technique knowing the players knowing who's around with everybody's doing so I think this is way more than just that kind of a much of way well they're like a moment for you like I'm here and I've got to learn it into the size is there a moment last year of practice with the designer or or Carson or one of those guys being inside there a moment you point to like okay that's what I like I'll say finally halfway through the season you know you can order reps and practice without seeing number one is the start of every trade and you know that's just kind of open my eyes right this is kind of where everybody knows there's no games I really got to adjust I want to do that how much do you think that help people in Wisconsin? right now if they're straight to the true that the ideal free time

you're gaining some buds here from other guys around the program you will spring how much do you think you can point this at the skeleton and now that helped me prepare for possibly that helped me a lot I feel like without being on the sky foot I wouldn't do right now I know to the order to learn it I went through all the physical things I went through here for the start of the program trying to get to them when they're in they help me you know kind of get ready for myself you know for when whenever my time is coming in the jump so we're talking to you and David here on today like how important is it for you three you three young guys to step up on the interior of the or definitely for you know we have our I talk for guys you know they kind of came in to let us know what they can do obviously we couldn't watch it the jap is past year but they want to come back you know you do we have to do and I go see the two of them or when they're chatting shit and you know you can't do it just with them you know you need guys to come in kind of

get themselves ready needed so they can be the best in their own field and for us to be able to come in and help the team you know that's very needed to what I do what was your reaction when Tyleek said he was coming back I was happy now so I was trying to see anything back you know that's my guy I think a lot of people see it as everybody on the team wants the older guy to leave you know but why don't why is that wrong why is that I don't look down I say you want to win you know I feel like everybody that's what everybody is well you know I remember you were everybody I have to go and I'm going to come back and help this win you know that's that's all the care about that's all the more you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know you know that there's 25 to 30 snaps you know you kind of up for grabs what does that do for you

I obviously it's like you just got those guys at the top they're probably going to play there for the 50 snaps you know that there's pretty good chocolate hey it's all for you guys to wrap up please that's what you know I mean besides just looking at whatever snaps you're available and we just want to do whatever takes to help us win and this is you know taking those types of snaps you know that's what we do to help the team playing we're going to do that I just take pride in when I step on the field every snap I just want to be a leader in that space because I'm starting with all four special teams so I'm going to contribute in every single way there well hopefully I think every guy has to take pride in that how do you see what you're doing on special teams then translate so when you get out there at Nekker I mean I would just kind of say like that relentless effort special teams it's a longer play so you want to even totally four to six seconds so being able to have relentless effort on special teams translates when you're going to defense then it feels good to be out there not brother I know we got a couple of snaps together so being on the field with him I know my mom then I try to get little pictures and they see us on the field together but it's been great what do you what do

you think of a wave that he's played so far online backer I think he's playing decent so far but he has to keep you and continue to improve he's doing his job but I want him to take it to the next level and be really be that best lineback in the country time how much do you guys do that with each ever kind of critique each other's games I kind of ask him a lot more questions because like he's in the interior so with the nickel and stuff I have to be in the run pits so I'm like still understanding that with some of our new calls and stuff like that but I really learned a lot from him but his big mental is really my dad I know his teaching a lot about the game. Do you still you still foul lower it over the players? Oh yeah definitely definitely. And the switch from the sea river for the back obviously was your choice. Yeah was it a difficult position for you to see a future? I mean it wasn't really difficult when I was that entertained my started the transition there so once I got into it I was like I'm about to excel at this position and I really I really just took it on took a face on and I'm just trying to sell be the best me there. You've got two very experienced guys that have used the best place.

What's the mindset for you obviously that you can have to do? Yeah I mean as a man like as a football player I just hold myself to a certain standard where I'm starting where I'm the backup whatever it is I just hold myself to a certain standard so the way I practice the way I show every single day is going to be the same whether I'm starting or not. And until we get used to playing in college football playing offense how long do you take you to get to the physical side of defense and I just made it and take too long I mean you saw like once I get on defense I was ready to go for my face on I was ready to go hit. I think that's just a mindset my dad my brother like I grew up in kind of a defensive or a defensive family so I knew one of my time to get attacked I got to go for my face on it. What is that face what do you mean? No slowing down no hesitation boom strike through contact. Would you give me your mom? Everybody knows my true face. Yeah my mom I think my mom has personality like just connecting well with people you see that with her job you see that with all she makes friends everywhere we go go to the grocery store go anywhere she's talking to somebody so I think coming to a new place I was able to transition

one connect with the guys in my room connect with my team really come part of this culture. I feel like I did my job from being honest yeah I'm just trying to do every time I get a chance to go do my job. You guys have four guys in your defense we're all from the drinks and what kind of pride do you got to take it back? We take a lot of pride in that growing up we we I mean we grew up together we were playing sports since we were young so we know that competitive capacity we grew up with and we were in so with our our bads and the coaches around us so we're making that train so here as well. Thank you. Really just being a leader supporting my teammates making sure you know they're taking advantage of their play opportunities and really just being that they're both a leader on the

sideline and you know lifting the energy up. It's awesome man you know he's a he's a great player he's a dog he's proven himself he has a few houses in the university so it's awesome. Which day said that Lorenzo is earned the right to play more on defense what have you seen from Lorenzo? It hurts a his bro this year. Oh yeah he's growing a lot man he's a great player. And just to see where he's elevated his game he knows been really awesome to see you guys. At least that happened first that was the one you want to miss any of the martial Yeah thank god so I'm really excited for that and yeah you play. And I think that's the change the rule you definitely have a lot to be really stable and fix the sideline and engage with your team right. Oh yeah I didn't even know that was a rule so yeah that's it's actually cool it's actually cool that they changed it but it would have been a bummer if would I had to leave and then miss actually the first half of the next game even if you were in the first half right. This game so it's a cool you do come in to see the new and having a lead defense.

Here are two games nobody's for touchdowns they haven't gotten up. You know it's hard to find a way to get in that way. Yeah. I mean how good is this defense and how much better games don't go. It's pretty good you know we're chasing we're chasing a lead in this so our job is just taking the problems that are still there and make sure when we're in with match-up games you know we got everything covered but if you've not like especially since you got the watch what happens. Um I would just say like I cannot say this. The fourth-star schedule was a little better going into the season like the start of the season. And another thing I would have to say is I feel like we could be more if you run to the ball more and really just take out a little things and you know I'll play to level our opponents sometimes. Is the schedule thing just because you want to play in a big game or because you want to get a real look at how good you guys are. Yeah for me I definitely want to get a real look where we're at and just to be able to have

a match again early in the year like these other teams around the country it kind of just shows you where you're at and it's a good start up to the season especially if you want. What does get you I'm assuming you guys take a little bit more to get right now this season. Feet in teams like 40. This is probably the only time I'll keep that at the end of the season. Yeah yeah yeah I definitely agree with that. Um for me I take two Zayn Wednesday really personal for me to be able to elevate my game to the highest level I can and get 1% better every single day and two Zayn Wednesdays is good on good man so I really take advantage of those reps. You're a very honest man and not a hardy citizen. Not say what you probably want to say about the party. Um this is really hard. It was it was a bull crap crawl. I really didn't understand it and it's kind of been going around around the country really. I seen one I think it was Florida and what was the other team and then and then that was that was a bad call to and then my call to it.

It's kind of just getting out of hand and then the fact that's your outdoor game and the players not even heard or anything like that and I was kind of like the last one in. I guess I could see the perspective of wrestling looking at but uh yeah it's up. And Zayn when you guys see him film after the game Aaron probably could have had that but it was like I have what do you guys say to you kind of like that? Man we were we were happy for him man to be able to be out there and make a play on the ball and a little bit amount of time. There's awesome man to be able to see him and we are our job is to continue to bring him up with us and whenever his time to go on that field we want to represent the IA. I don't want to make comparison with the team. I think it's a good loss for a freshman. But you see you got come in and struggle early in spring and then start to make those strides or you see in those things from Aaron that like okay like I see why he's here. I see why you know won't like him so much. So those kind of things. Yeah Aaron definitely has flashes and he shows that in practice after like for me he definitely has to be a little bit more consistent. You know he has a lot of ways to go.

Still young but you know the unit you know we're doing our job to be able to show him on the field and show him off the field of what it means to be a lead. How much of you guys talk about being consistent and some of that things and the young guys have to do what does that mean? Does that mean he consistent in terms of I discipline? Does that mean he and kids and kids and what is good what does that mean? The system means being consistent in all areas of the game really. Especially in practice you can't have you can't have ups and downs especially at Ohio State. We have to instill that into the game guys because you never know when the opportunity is going to come and they're going to have to you know live up to the moment and wall out. I just want to help you guys as starters to have guys like your main like the ones that like Aaron pushing everyday in practice. Oh it's awesome man you know they're they push the room you know they make the room better and just to be able to know that we have guys under us that are like involved in play it just makes it even more better. Okay just just you did it. One last question for players. One last question for players. One last question for players.

A couple of questions around the country who kind of make it plays up to Jesu's door here. But other ones. Whether it's a mentality thing or ability what do you what's the key thing to be able to perform as a true freshman? I mean yeah be consistent all areas of your life on and off the field. You know take care of the way we're going to take care of school. You know ball out and wrong and football field and gain trust with your teammates. That's what's going to take you a long way and essentially you know start as a freshman. Great. Dancel thank you very much. Thank you Dancel. Yes sir. Turn the right to be on the field which I expect them to do that's our job to make ways for them to be out there. With Jordan playing a lot of safety last year did that kind of creative blueprint for you guys and how you can do more pre-safety stuff? Yeah Jordan was great from a flexibility standpoint right so we were able to go from kind of traditional nickel type looks to three high safety looks and a lot to put Caleb in different spots so that was critical for us especially down the stretchers on the playoff room for a number of weeks of they didn't really know exactly how it was going to be deployed so that flexibility is

critically important to us flexibility going forwards is going to be great and kudos to Jordan for taking that step to start against the brass gun high safety you know the different things that he was able to do last year was huge is going to help him in the NFL and then yeah again we look at okay who are the pieces that we have how do we highlight those and how do we deploy them but if flexibility will always be important there's an ideal equal line for a guy who can be that Jordan could play both that and they can only have the safety I think it always helps anytime that whoever you are whatever position they can do multiple things if you're a linebacker and you can rush off the edge if you're a corner and you can bump to the inside and place lock corner and play high safety so I think those flexibility things are critical more than just like pin pointing a just that position has to be able to function that way you know but the flexibility across positions as a defensive backs as part of coach Walton you know you know you know tip of my philosophy is their defensive backs they're not just a corner they're just a nickel or just a safety right let's meet together let's train together to be able to groom these guys to be flexible in amount of packages and that helps your depth too right so it may not be like who's the next best defensive back of the game well may not just be the guy replacing a guy they got injured

in that position right you may have to move pieces around and that flexibility you know help us for sure competition I want to see incredible competitive miss every single day right so I want to see consistency from the guys I want to see you know it's we want our guys to be consistently on the rise right it's not okay to like two days better than you're taking a step back like every day we need to be consistently on the rise so like those habits your consistency and then your competitive mentality that's what I want to see we'll coach them again with the right spot I don't worry about that but I want to see that competitive mentality at home and that's what I've seen from the what a workout so far I mean this morning it was it was a real one in years and that's you know what coach Mick has developed with coach day breaches will be pre-jump defense too I mean that competitive mentality I want to see for those guys

yeah I think consistency for any young players the biggest thing right so you see flashes of talent but you want to be able to do that over and over and over and over again I'm not saying that they have not been that way I'm actually really pleased with where those guys are right now but that's going to be the biggest thing is you're like when you're when you're playing in situational type things or packaging things like that it's different than maybe you're out there for 60 snaps in a game right that's a different type of feeling right so the consistency of performance is important in those because you're putting a lot of different ever situations right so that that'll be the biggest thing is responding to those pressure situations and being consistent in performance yeah our job is to put the best football players on the field so we you know latheons roll was latheons roll because that's what latin do well kill him's roll was killed because that's what kill him did well right so then you say okay we have we have some sergeants coming back we have a lot of new pieces right so we say okay what do these guys do holistically well and then let's highlight

those things that put them in position to be successful that's all our job is coaches right so put the guys in position to be successful and that was spent a lot of time as a defense staff talking about that personnel conversations and that's our job the spring is to make sure that we're getting those pieces right at the slot Jordan had such a great year you guys last year who are some candidates to kind of replace them now you called the nickel you called slot I don't think yeah nickels what we've called okay um yeah Lorenzo styles has has done a bunch of awesome things at that position when you look at germane Matthews and what he's been able to do playing on the outside but also the toughness he brings in the slot from that position so there's a number of guys that that have those traits and it's a unique guy to be able to do that you know because you're not just a corner you're not just a safety shoot back a linebacker sometimes too you know so that interchangeable piece has been really important Jordan did an awesome job of that and then you know we were able to even grow the packaging last year because of the things that he was able to do Coach Day said about you at the national championship celebration shirts things he's told you privately for him to say that at the championships same you're one of the rising stars in the industry

one of the brightest young minds I had me make you feel really good just your take away from I know you're humble guy you probably don't want me to ask you about no no you can ask anything yeah I think anytime that you get recognized for your hard work and your contributions also my pre-schedish that appreciate coach Day saying it um I've got an awesome relationship with coach Day I think the world of him you know yeah I try to just be up behind the scenes operator I don't mind the spotlight but I try to just be a behind the scenes operator put the guys in position to be able to shine but I appreciate of him and look forward to keep contributing and what you really thought so far in coach Patricia we got chance of me him for the first time very engaging personality just we're quite obviously very decorated just what your thoughts on coach first up we're in a position walks in the room the room I mean speaks for itself right so but first up like a great great guy a great guy like just humble gracious you know I've been very impressed with the person and and I had no previous relationship with man also was also to be able to build that relationship over the last couple weeks the football intelligence is incredible the IQ period is incredible this is a very very very smart guy what he's been able to do with

defenses and the wealth of knowledge and experience that he brings is like he's operated as a GM an offense coordinator defense coordinator head coach I mean it's pretty amazing when you start talking about the things that he's been able to do throughout his career so I have a ton of respect anyways surface level but then to be able to know the man I can't say enough positive things but he's gonna he's gonna be an awesome awesome awesome awesome part last thing for me what do you think of the Bible yeah as he's showing you the Bible he has it here oh it's huge it stacked up it stacked up you know I've I've studied those New England teams for you know from a far from many years actually I've used some of the things that they've done with their safeties his teach tapes throughout the years so I especially when I was a younger coach on the profession I used NFL examples to to teach guys earlier on my time at Duke and I still carry those two teach tapes and I so I've studied that defense you know from afar obviously without even knowing that and then you have for him to be able to be here and then take you through okay the history of why I got to that his background with you know the Bible check and all those things is pretty awesome but yeah

I mean yeah the the amount of detail is amazing like it's not a fluke why they've had the success you know when you say okay let's talk about a coverage the amount of detail and the coverage where you take all this high-level information you boil it down to very simple so the player can go play functionally like that's it's a it's a it's a true talent that he has the freshman that you have here what do you think of what have you been doing so far ahead before you've been to field what kind of things do you look for for us to start the kind of that you know yeah it's it's a great question you know so we have the faheme code in the shot here right now if they've all been awesome like first off who they are as people has been fantastic like those guys show up early for everything they're on point body weights you know every little marker that we look for academically how they're performing all that has been great you know faheme came in with a ready-made college body document through recruiting works cited about him he's learned in the ways to be a buckeye what it means to be a buckeye

found the other guys and and it's been he's been awesome it's been awesome um Cody's been great Cody's a worker Cody's a worker he's been fantastic to have every single day he's made big time improvements really excited about you know him as well and then the show is coming off that injury that he had you know his high school high school season and he's been great as well he's been really good so like all that had been diligent workers bought in they're hungry and they want to get better you know so we're excited about all those guys I'm hoping he'll be limited someone spring ball so we'll be small with him but he's progressing very well very well with faheme obviously you know he brings a physicality to his game you know you've been able to see him roll down the box blitz do some of the things that we've been able to do the safety's but bring a physicality and mentality with him you know and then obviously when you get here that it's a totally different level right so everybody's as good as you know and but now I think very highly

of him and high expectations for him when it comes to Caleb now he's obviously on top of his right disability how much does that allow you to relax your experiment with some of the things you can do it feels like he could succeed at a lot of different positions and feel how much does that allow you say okay we can do this we can do that and move some things around you by the yeah um it definitely allows you to and as a coach you would say you have to be able to do that right so you've got uh essentially a very very unique chest piece that can like how many guys can really play the deep part of field the shallow part of field blitz you know do the different things that we ask him to do at that level right guys can move around and do it but very few can do it to that level where he's elite at all of it so it's keeping it simple enough to be able to go be functional with him and the pieces that are around him but that's a huge part of you know you see our successes past year a lot of that was putting Caleb in position to be successful you know that's especially like as we you know say from the half point of the season towards the end that was critical for us so yeah I think

it's a responsibility as a coach we haven't got like this to to make sure you're putting him in position elite played a good bit as a freshman last year and obviously room state healthier a little bit too but didn't get as much action but still you know what's first guy off the bench what what have you seen from him where is he at his development I've seen a big jump in the week you're going to see a different kind of guy when he takes the field to spring so he uh the meant his all mentality all mentality so uh physically it's why he saw you know the flash of him as a true freshman and um he's always had that piece right there but the mentality the toughness the grit that he has I mean that that showed a big time right now so I got big expectations for what does this spring look like for or Caleb Brian's heard about some of the guys who played a lot last year maybe a little skill he could back but he's defense and obviously a second year in the system what what's what is his experience with like for him yeah I think leadership is the biggest thing right now you know it means when he's always been a leader um but he's got even a bigger leadership role because you

had a bunch of guys that had played a lot of snaps here on a stay right where you don't have as many guys playing snaps so I think you know this this offseason he's been fantastic and transitioning that way it will work to the field now from a leadership standpoint it's going to be critical for him so um yeah we'll be smart with like coach they say we'll be smart with how we manage reps and you know springs at times to build fundamentals to build schematics but really to also find out what guys can do you know and uh we know some of what he can do on a high high level we all do right um so we can get continue to get him better but allow him to be able to influence the other guys we have to go are the I can sniggle more yeah the nickel spot yeah who are some of the guys who were sort of like we wrap it that spot yeah um Lorenzo styles remained math years and we've got some guys that you know have experience in there and uh yet we've got some good candidates to be able to go into that spot but yeah those are the guys that you'll be able to see operating in there yep thanks guys appreciate you Matt um like I said earlier just playing a lot faster I feel like

I'm more calm out there I feel like the moment isn't too big I feel like um getting bigger throughout the throughout the year and when I was hurt um definitely helped me I think the great thing about Caleb is he's such he's such like a likeable person a likeable teammate a great teammate um he helped he'll help you he'll help any of the teammates um he's definitely he definitely knows what he's doing he's a great player um and for me he just pushes me to be better every day I think with you with your room being so stacked as this you guys like do you think that there could be the opportunity though for you guys to all see quite a bit of playing time throughout the season and not just you know towards the end of games model playing time like some real meaning for reps I think that our room definitely has a lot of great players but as far as playing time like that's a question for coach noise

well I mean if you guys kind of been prepping for that though throughout the tall camp maybe switching in and out and then really kind of seeing a lot of way to action um we're definitely we're all getting like reps at each spot so like it's not just a just our band anymore it's not just it's not just you're here you're there we're all playing different positions we're all learning different techniques so it's making each one of us more versatile so how comfortable do you feel about strong state you got oh I feel comfortable in any safety swap so it's I mean the more reps you take the the easier it is and I played both safety slots last year so it's not really that big of a transition what are the differences between the two spots that you have? um honestly this year they made it so they're kind of they're I mean they're both they're both you have to do each thing in both spots so like you have to come down and make tackles of Andy you have to come down and make tackles that adjust their own obviously it's boundary and

feel so that the space is a little different but I mean you have to do everything that both say peace for me what's different what's different this camp compared to last camp for me personally I feel like I have I developed a better routine I feel like I'm more mature and um what I'm doing and I feel like just go out there and play and have fun I think that's the biggest thing for me don't don't get too caught up on the last way what have you added or what have you approved to your good team
