You know they play off a lot of they played off as ever it was like third and 20 or something and it's just like I hope he gives me a chance right once he does try and find a way so this order really is to it it's just trying to make a play I'm glad I was able to man I'm glad they over-turned it all that but yeah that's this all man just try and make a play and find a way to you know score some points. How do you did you know that that was the rule with with your Shen counting of STP? I knew a knee I had to come up against the Broncos on the sideline and nah honestly watching the replay I didn't know if it was gonna you know count that one to be honest. What did you think when you saw the replay? What I think when I saw the replay? I was like I hope that one count you know I hope that's not one of those that I got to be like what if right but I'm glad it did man and that was all my teammates just I was just happy I can make a play for my teammates man they trust me they believe me they they give me hope man so just I'm just glad I

can make a play for my team. Did you think what an awesome catch? Yeah I mean I was like that's a that's a good one there that's a good one and it's got a count I remember saying to all them I'm like y'all gassing me up too early like this got a count y'all let's chill what's the count it I was like yeah all right now you're okay. Yeah that's that's up there you know just given that it's the stage of honest and NFL but like when I was a little league man I used to have some catches now really real real so you felt like I was going back to those days a little bit. Was there something today with that right hand it just seemed like the one-handed catch is kept coming on so many different plays? I don't know I don't think so just just how it all felt tonight so like I said I'm just glad that Aaron trusted me to go make some plays and that I was able to make them for him and we can keep on building on this and we want you know at the end of the day we want to start our run and the only way to do that is the win one.

We have seen too much here we're a lot of your catches this season they've been on slants curls stuff like that we haven't seen too many of them go get it go up and get it. Yeah. I don't know man I feel like last week against the New England I got some downfield targets and that it definitely felt good man so just being opportunistic with it if it does go up making the place so that all of a sudden they feel good about you know sending me on those but they do and at the end of the day when they do and when we dial it up it's my job to go and make the play you know and that's just how I've always looked at it but you know at my roots I feel like I've always played the deep ball well and you know I felt it's been fun to get to do that for a couple of years. You obviously saw the O'Delpe probably everybody in the world see the O'Delpe. I was watching live. I was watching live. Where does your bow and where does yours compare to that? Man O'Delves is it was different and he got two feet down the ball was from the land out of bounds and it was O'Delves man O'Del against the Cowboys like that was the

one so for it to even come up in that combo you know I'm blessed I'm honored but yeah man O'Del got the that's that boy. Give it a second. You know what? Alright. There enough. There enough. Give it a second. Given where you were a couple weeks ago in Pittsburgh and where this team has been at how important was it to have a night like this for you to have some big players like this one? Yeah I mean it feels good man it feels good we definitely just wanted to get back in the win college. Loosen five straight feels how you would expect it doesn't feel good we're better than that most importantly and it was time to go prove it so anytime you can come out and protect your home turf and fans showed out you know I was honestly surprised with how well they did show out how loud they were on third down and just and just propelling us to that win man it's a good win to get and you know definitely giving the circumstances and makes it that much better but it's really a good win because it gets us started on what we've talked about within the facility and with the guys.

How about your first touchdown catch tell coming about that. It was drag route man coverage and you know I'm dragging across the field I'm like he kind of came looked at me last second so he did a great ball to get it get around Petri and once again it's just like alright let me go make my play and when I turned up field there's no one there so you know it went in my favor. What were you when you saw the O'Dell catch you say I was down in Texas. Yeah I was sitting at my dad in my dad in the movie room just watching the game like we always do he's a big cowboy guy growing up I'm sure he doesn't flip now but growing up he's a big cowboy fan so I'm sure he was pissed when O'Dell did that but yeah man I was watching him just sit with my pops you know we like wow you know. What changed in half time and how do you carry it over to the next game man. Just knowing that we're gonna have something adversity come up and that was the adversity us having the first half like that and it not really go our way we feel like we're playing the football but we got nothing to show for it. You know we got to eliminate those self-inflicted wounds we got to find a way to be consistent

but to go out in the second half and I think we went three for three on the drives you know that's what it's all about you got to have a good response to these events that happen and you know that's what eventually is going to be the outcome right so that's what something we've been talking about all week and I know we really took it to heart and and come out in the second half kind of prove that. Brooks first one has had coach 12th his message after the game and what were the emotions like. Um yeah I mean they were there this a great dude man it's a guy that before every game we got there he's like y'all lucky this is before you ever got the head coach and you know he's like y'all lucky words I can't say on you know on the interview every game he says that's probably about all of us I know he said it to me every game since I've been here and he really means it he doesn't take any of this for granted to get him his first win to be a part of that you know I know how we all felt about it and um he's deserve he's deserving because um the messages have been real the messages have been great you know every week and at the end days the players job to go out there and perform and

execute him to go and get him a w it felt good for sure. Feel good to go and just have to go and get this I just cool man this I it's better than this I was doing. I'm not going to lie so right now. Thank you. Back in the park it and to David Schiller after every red play that was competing you know what I mean so um that's my guy. And as much as you'd welcome on here to the website that bittersweet is it the certain matters because it would happen to him. Yeah that's a thing um that's not how I was definitely know how I'd in the how I thought about a transitional girl you know about it being all I'm some timing a cardinal soul career you know um you know I want to play or forever you know I mean I was talking about his plans um so you know you wish transitions like one of those parents like to your time now. But again either way you know um we talk about it you know that's that's the toe goes you know but obviously you know he sees he's happy.

Been one of the exporters. Again I think everybody leads um in their own way you know not everybody's the bruh guys come around and it's not everybody right like I think for me that's me specifically on game day with the O.I. and after we do a little one like that's my like well I'm dead like that's my like a vocal time I feel like I'm talking about this you know just recently um talking about how what I want to do for the run was I want to bring that hum energy the he brought right so last year of course I'm sure he's been doing for years but the year when I spent my own he brought a lot of energy the excitement and happiness in the room which is his natural energy to where I only had to focus on me you know I didn't have to make sure other other guys you know feel some type of way when it came in here because hump brought that and I'm not here but I saw when you did for a room I want to

be that guy to make sure it's amptical to practice everybody's I have more taking a field team on period you know it's a low day or something you know it's a event but I want to make it feel like I want to bring that because that's what me and hump did to each other we would have each other do something to be a walk we're lit so I want to do that I want to bring that energy I want to make bring more guys you know to do that yeah I want to do that from day one you know I kind of I want to do that from day one um talking to him and obviously it's that time I spent the obviously the four OTA started just being in my self-esteem about what the room needs you know because I know I do new role as one of leaders you know my offense is that we need a guy like that is going to make sure the O line is picked up ready to go every day I want to help a little things

are happening at practice and people are saying anything and how I may leave maybe different than somebody else may leave you know I like to practice at least like the legal positivity you know I mean so but he the energy had going beyond just the type of deal I'm starting to so I was kind of the goal month um living my whole life on the NFL team captain like specifically in I fell I wasn't a captain in high school wasn't a captain of college but I want to make a joke I was in high school so I feel like I'm not gonna be a captain like he's that I felt you know but that would be awesome you know but you know that happens I'd be great but not either way I want to assume a role as a captain from to respect the guys on a team a visual word and get back in that yeah I mean I can't say that um I mean I guess the biggest thing is that I felt like how

you used to in the past but it didn't take just the first LTAs it took training left and right once this season ended because I know what it was gonna be so it's gonna go out of yeah grips just to get back to feeling like myself for day one LTAs and then I'll hold first week but now like today specifically just changing some small things with my feet that good say talking about the long coach about some things I can do with my feet to get to that to sell on a nutritional angle that I love to sit on I thought I felt I thought I felt great already but I'm okay I felt even better so I need more exercises tomorrow now get on my feet back and how I like the right side and on the left side so I'm excited I mean obviously I feel like um in the league whether I left or right you're still going against premier guys obviously your high expectations for your left and right tackle but um there's definitely like the level of energy

and like the expectations definitely take the human side because now connect the blind side that's the as the tackle world you know so um so yeah I would say in terms of communication as far as this even outside of facility just stuff like that like really creating that the tackle quarterback bond even more off the field I think has been something that's even the cool I got a text one day as I like you put left I was like you know yeah I've been training both I've been training both you know I I asked after the season they're like honestly you know we're talking to you so play the season and I just got a text and I'm like having what happens with the free agency then so I was like you know what I had a O-season right tackle so if I get the word I'm going I'm standing right tackle I'll just do what I did before I'm built on that bus I was like I might as well as train the left tackle now as if I'm going to be left tackle and I'd rather do that than train on right

time good to come here you left tackle my cool I didn't even switch my feet yet you know what I mean so I'm like let me just prepare an advance I'll say yeah it's gone you know I think occasionally on third down there'd be a lot of twists I was just not like it's automatic and I think that was my mindset for like the first half of the season like I didn't have to go into game with some pros like oh my gosh they did that I kind of figured like okay like this is this is the type of rush I'm gonna get this is how this guy usually rushes if I get the vibe this top the ends like the rush you know tackles that are you know first year guys we got the premier patch on already you know what it was gonna be already you know every stud and honestly just knowing that's kind of an advantage to so you're not you're not you're not oh they brought the twist on my side again it was never air in dog but about to come out the hot like three plays in a row and two minute I do that it was the morning you know what I mean I'm watching more everybody else and you rarely goes out there occasionally third down I was like he's gonna pick me you know what I mean so

effect it's kind of it's also kind of an advantage in a way but it's also exciting like okay I'm gonna get the hardest look you know those are real real reps you know the things so really out on our way to kind of process and I was like hey when they tell me they'll let me know but I'm just gonna train it I was training all left so TAs I guess if I didn't hear anything about TAs I came in like so you know what I mean because just like I'm cool with training both continue I would have been cool training both continually but I feel like anybody any position will be like okay like you want as soon as possible give your feet kind of settle in your hips settle in your hands so then a second how would it would have been harder than you work both there heo T's no no but they're definitely but in terms of the development it was definitely a lot faster if you're

staying on one side but I think having that the weeks that we had to transition with seasons over and like it was fun you know good um we'll try to meet up with him on a week things at a time right now but when he comes back I'm gonna show him the other house I've got a house is not too far from so I told him I got that house like I got like a yellow side DJ you know what I mean so yeah with guys going in going out you moving back to guard go coming in what was that like in the moment having to adjust on the fly I mean we're built for this like just how you know I moved the center and Steve moved the left guard it's just we're all pretty much interchangeable and we can all play all positions across the board and you know when it comes down to that that time you know things like that got to happen and we're ready for it. DJ came in and we've given all of the circumstances for him coming off the mattress. I mean all those guys are ready you know we we prepare during the

week during during training camp for situations like this so it's not nothing new to them you know guys are calm cool collected they have good composure so being elevated being active being a starter you know we're all in the same boat ready to fly. I know it's a next men up mentality but in real time when that was happening guys were going down and switching what was the challenge for the whole time physically and mindset. I mean we're all like I said we're all pretty much interchangeable you know like if I need to go to left guard center whatever bone needs to go center of guard however you know it's it's not really like a big shocker moment you know it's we train for this we're prepared for this so when it happens you know we're able to execute. Why don't you stop you be waking the switch to left guard. I think half time. Well coming in it's a rookie in the crowd in the noise and I know you said you guys all trained for this but what can you tell us about yeah I mean he's a man you know he's he's he's built for this moment he's done it for his whole life

so you know at the end of the day it's just a game and we keep on we keep trying to keep everybody calm cool and collected and you know we're five is one we help each other out and whenever you know you need to we do it so he was ready he was built for it and he's going to be a great player. You're obviously no stranger to Matthew's toughness what was it like just seeing the way he led this off I think I think I that guy's a warrior. 36 years old he's taking some hits and some things and some dent so and he's able to get back up and keep it rolling you know he's still got that fire to him and you know we love having him back there. Sean has always said after a loss don't let it team beat you twice but to have the lead late in the game it's all the injuries and not win you describe that level of frustration. I mean it's the NFL comes down to seconds and inches and you've seen it off the past couple days and today you know it comes down to the little things and you know we'll see him again. I apologize if you were asked is what was it like for you personally to walk on the other end. It was kind of surreal man it was it was nice

it was emotional seeing everybody know I wasn't a kid when I came here but you know I've got growing the more of a man and these people here have definitely helped lay that blue spring for me helped me out big time and I can't thank them enough for that. I know you're looking film yet for how you feeling about the D. I feel really good you know saying because everything with barefoot all summer at OCA is showing up you know we said our ground we came up short came up short a little bit but in that end day you know it's a lot of air from me I see a bright future for us. I think that's an over time drive I mean you guys have been stopping them and they just seem to kind of get a role. Yeah you know you know just something I just need work on you know got to play around better on that and just kind of eliminate the big phase that's all that it comes down to but overall I just felt like we just just came up short on that. That's the offense it's kind of struggling to find it's hurting early in the game what did you guys feel like you like to do as a defense to keep you on edge? I feel like we just need to step up and you know I know they would have come through and have our back so I just telling the offense you

know we got y'all back you know just keep doing what y'all doing we're gonna keep on trying to hold in best with our team. So how did the visit go? Oh it was great yeah I loved the staff here you can tell it has really good family ties, a strong connection. What were some things that you were looking for on your visit whether it's you know talking to coach Norval's team I guess what was important to you on this visit? So I mean for me I mean like this was kind of like a big decision for me where I'm assigned to kind of like not a fish one degree arrest and that's from the court of the cycle. You know it's fun to play so I can develop the most and then just have a good old line coach you know final place where I can face a good competition not only in games we've also been practiced as well and part of the most important is just finding a good good guy is that I dedicated to winning dedicated to it to being great because I mean if you have a team of me guys who aren't serious about lots of you great it's wasting time and money so I mean until the problem not big three but the culture being kind of important to me. Being around

coach of hand today what was kind of the things that you noticed around him just whether it's how he is or just what your thoughts of him being around him most. He's an incredibly detailed guy and yeah I got that for sure from just like watching a film like he broke down with sex and game fell with me and he also kind of worked out some of the guys that he's coaching the past that are similar to me and you know it was it was just show how good the coach used you know getting no coach on valgarn this experience what has happened. It was good he's a very passionate guy and I mean I love that but the head coach should have that and now you can tell how much he cares about you want the guys want the program about the psyche being dedicated being driven so it's a win to succeed. What did they tell you about the opportunity here as far as meeting a player of your sort at a position. Well I mean they see me I left happen with I'll be a good figure coming in. I was a coach no doubt stress you know also other great

awesome lineman portal that have philosophy of saying that fill lives on now be good fit when it comes. Just like what you guys do what if the scene does a little sight for people here. What's kind of the ultimate feeling now about FSU? Have you solved this big experience with them? What's kind of the feeling about them? Yeah it's definitely good feeling. It's great. I don't know what that was actually what's come down here because I mean some calls and focus on nice but you know in person is a lot different. It's a game to know the staff you're games, no coach or it's a no coach no doubt like it was a great experience so for all. Who else have you checked after in this process? What are the schools? Oh I've talked to some other stuff. I've talked to a house in Iowa and A&M and really just yeah that's what I've been I've tried to keep the short county and I've tried to keep the sweet and really need to be quite a bunch of schools. That's not the man priority. Are you entering decision mode now or do you intend to take some tricks in your normal day and then? Yeah I'm done with this one. When do you want to decide? Sometimes before

Christmas. For those of us who have only seen the midway so we put kind of your strengths in areas that you're looking to improve. So shrink wise I would say probably just move it. I mean I have a full local shirt. I was pretty well fit in 145 pound of guy. I have a big shirt. If I ever done an off film I decided to go out and my stance is a big thing. It would be so big and it would be able to move people. But at the same time also does anything consistent and can't place a bunch forward you to turn around to the second knee. If you're a big strong guy and you totally do so much, don't have the right to do so that's a big reason why I want to have a good online Christmas work. So we'll find that to be precise about everything. That's kind of why we're looking for a good improvement. Thanks. A lot of low-hours in the fans because they always travel. But are we a pro Texas crowd for the most part? Do you guys kind of thrive off that? Do you

like that kind of being the enemy? I mean you can say that but you know we don't really you know try to focus on the fans. We just want to you know produce on the field. If it's a way game home game you know we just want to go out there and execute. Right Cameron T. Grovins in the athletic. There's a lot to say when you guys all came back. These last two games, we have 12 sacks. You guys really on blitz and a ton. It's not even the start. The bench guys can yada. They just come in. What's it been like to see this realize it's potential and kind of where the counter we have. I said we always knew what we had in our room. You know it's just now I was just showing up you know teams are scheming us different ways and it's allowing you know certain players and make certain plays and I think you know we got so many guys in the room you know we have two that can be ones anywhere we have three that can be ones anywhere in the country but they all you know decided to stick here and you know grind this thing out with the guys

they came in with and like I said I think we have a great group who you know can make plays anytime. When you guys get eight sacks in a game but also hold it even close off it's a minus 24 rush yards in a game. What is that like? What is that say by the script? I think it's a great feeling you know looking up at the scoreboard and seeing like a negative definitely um but you know it's just like all the work we put in over the summer over the season you know we've been building this defense to where it is now and like I said when we're executing where at a high level it's hard you know do anything with us. Yeah I think our whole deline gets held you know every game I don't know what the reps are seeing or what's going on with that but you turn on the tape and really look at it we're held almost every play so. Is there something that you can you guys be better actors? Can you be more dramatic about it?

What do you think has to happen for it to get called in your favor one time this season? We can be actors but you know we don't really teach nothing like that but I don't know if it's where I'll cause we're Ohio State you know letting things go or what it is but it's been you know pretty bad I know y'all see it too it's every play almost every game. We got you. Uh Adam think WBNF? We have a chance to see a glimpse of Coach Day's pretty game speech. The intensity that you've seen for 10 so last two games in the playoffs is that different thing you've seen throughout the year and what does that do for this group before you go out and feel cool? Um I want to say it's different he's been like that his whole year but it's just now was you know getting recorded and posted but definitely when you see your head coach it's fired up like that likes to fire and you you know go out there and do better and you know you can't thank Coach Day enough because you know he he's our leader of this team and he's like that he makes you want to you know go out there and do great for him for like the guys around us.

Scotty we're gonna go to you with a couple on zoom. Yes sir we're gonna start with Andy Anders. Andy go ahead. Yeah I mean uh Texas has a runs a lot of outside zone schemes that you just want to what's important for defending those kinds of plays on the ground and uh I guess just uh you're stringing out those those kinds of so to speak. Do you say that again? Yeah. I've done mute again there. Yeah um just Texas runs a lot of outside zone in their run game running schemes. I just want important for defending that kind of plays of the tackle. Oh for a detackle versus stretch team um you always want to talk about penetration like penetrating the line and not catching um because once you know you penetrate the stretch it basically stops the stretch and makes them you know cut back to you know unblocked players so really just attacking this game and not catching. Next question is gonna come from Dan Hope.

Dan go ahead. Hi Leake you are in a freshman class with Quinn now you're playing against him a few years later just what's that like for you? Uh you know Quinn's my guy you know he's a great competitor great quarterback. I think it'll be fun going against him you know trying to get him running around. Next question comes from Kurt Bulls. Kurt go ahead. Yeah tell you I don't know if there's one thing you can pinpoint why y'all been so dominant. I would think maybe it comes back under the physical brand of football. Do you feel that's going to be the survivor in this game who's the more physical team? Uh I'll say definitely the more the most violent team you know the team that plays the fastest excuse the most and you know uh exceeds their game playing the most is going to win this game. I found a question will come from Stefan from Cleveland.com. Tylie what's kind of your relationship been like with Ty Hamilton especially as the seasons

progressed and just how in sync do you feel like you two are playing on a defensive line together? Me and Ty are you know we've been roommates for the past two years. We live in the same apartment complex uh we play the game together. It's really like one of my best friends on the team and you know we talk about a lot of football things so we're really on the same page with a lot of you know plays teams like to run against us and who could be some stunts we run we're always you know connected in some kind of way. Jerry back to you great thank you got that just a couple more questions. Joey Compton Columbus this bad. Tylie what does it say about your defensive line and how pride for you guys when you can get eight sacks 13 tackles for loss that having to bring a ton of extra guys and pressure but you can do so forward do a lot of that. I'll say cool to store coach coach Jay um this is a lot of technique and you know sometimes it doesn't show up because you know team scheme you different ways but when you have a team one dimensional like they have to pass the ball that's when all the you know the pass rush technique

and stuff comes out and I think we've gotten Tennessee and uh organ to those situations where they had to pass the ball and you know just let us rush free instead of worrying about the run if that makes sense. Are you guys just winning those one on one of those past version situations till I was here so many sacks and TFLs? Yeah I'll say we're definitely winning way more one on one is now and uh you know they're not keeping as many guys in the box to block us because they have to you know they're trying to come back so I think it's like I said it's just cool to sort of offense you know creating these big leads and making teams one dimensional. Tyley we've talked about how better the team has gotten uh this is too getting off to fast starts on those sides of the ball but there has been some scoring late in the first half um like it's kind of seeing the gets Oregon has there been renewed emphasis on controlling the middle eight and how important will that be against Texas? Uh definitely you know that's one of coach Jay's biggest points you know controlling the middle eight you control the middle eight you like chances are you winning that game goes you know sky rockets

so definitely verse ten to see it Oregon we give up touching us you know late in a you know second half I mean first half but we you know we just got to keep our foot on the gas we can't let up like at all um because these teams we're playing our great teams like Texas is a great team you know the gray offense gray offense align great quarterback great receivers great running backs so you know we just got to just keep executing like we know we can and uh you know see how it plays out okay final questions for finally here uh did me letterman wrong yeah telly you know Aaron Donnelly you used to talk about uh everybody's hurting at this time of the year but when the lights come on and the and the snap goes what goes off in a guy like here's mine I mean uh from the standpoint of making the play I mean can you explain that the people don't get to play down in the middle of it all uh I'll say you know like I say you're right everybody has heard around this time you know we're what 15th week 14th you know deep in the season you know you just got to you just got to show up that's my mind so you just got to show up no matter what I'm going through

I got to make that play I got to be disruptive you know just to help my team out because um when I'm when I'm on my A game you know everybody else can you know feed off of me or we can feed off for like you know JT Jack tie but I said you know coach make always says like nobody cares like it's true nobody really cares if you're a hurry if you're injured you just got to go out there and play and make plays you just don't a little bit explain the drive you have personally to get to through this next one into the next one but I know it's one step at a time but you know you came back etc explain people what's going on in your brain about your motivation my motivation you know you we all have our wise you know while we're doing things you know we have family you know family here our team our brotherhood but uh he's got to he want to do you write for your brothers you know on this team you know we're we're trying to win the big thing we're not just you know trying to go win two games and lose we're trying to win the big thing you know as long as we stay motivated stay you know

humble know like you know take the rap poisoning you know things like that and just execute and play our hardest you know we'll they'll be fine thank you very much yes sir I feel uh very healthy obviously coming off a seasoning and ending injury last year I'm feeling really good feeling better than ever to be honest even better than I did before the season last year so it's been a great spring so far how does the point was it to get your office at the great start last year yeah I mean it was it was a hard time I mean it's definitely not easy going through any injury um especially during the season like that but you know it builds character I think it's good for me in the long term also built that for the time of the season oh for sure yeah saw some key pieces come in there and uh produce at a high level what do you think George George is a stud once he gets healthy he's gonna be great um he's working really hard right now and um he's gonna he's gonna have a great season this year

personally how exciting is it for you to be kind of your position now this year yeah it's super exciting um you know I got a lot better feel for the offense this year um really good rapport with Hudson and it's been a fun spring so far so just gotta keep keep carrying that on and see where it takes us obviously when you're sideline you're not playing how important is it to stay like mentally ready and mentally get those reps so that when you come into the spring you can improve definitely I mean that's all it is really just mentally envisioning the plays envisioning making the plays and every night you know I think about it probably every day so it was it was a big part of it for sure um I think just understanding the defenses and understanding where the quarterback wants me at a specific time and um you know building that trust with him is huge and I think I've been doing a pretty good job of that how does that relationship with you and Hudson developing big year too yeah it's developing great I mean we have a great friendship off the field so you know that that helps a lot on the field as well so we have a great connection you know

both on and off the field and it only helps yeah yeah so you'll be here in May it'll be a lot of fun it'll be a lot of fun having him up here what didn't you just see a lot of this team on Saturday I think just you know go out there and play hard um limit the mistakes and at the end of the day it's just being consistent with what we do and playing hard so that's what I want to see for sure oh for sure I think we're way ahead of last year and I'm excited to see where it takes us do you think I'm a bit of a freshman yeah Drew Biber yeah he's getting healthy now he's looking great he looked really healthy today and I'm super excited to play with him he's a lot of fun to play with just how quick is this turnaround you guys just started practicing a couple weeks ago now you have a spring game to get to it it's pretty quick but you know I like it I like it a lot so it's fun to get out there and play you know I'll let him be 11 put the ball down and go

I mean that's the goal that's the goal every day you know that's what I'm reaching for and whether I get it or not who knows but that's what I'm just want to reach it for every day maybe a leader like how he is I mean he's just he's unbelievable leader and we all lean on him you know he runs this whole team and he knows that we'll go as far as he goes Jeremy Birmingham the podcast Brennan we talked a little bit last week just kind of you being becoming one of the emotional leaders of this team as you never walking off the field at half time on Wednesday I have to be down there by the locker room I was the only person taking photos of you guys down there which is weird but everyone looks super bad and we're up 34 to 8 and it looked like you got to down by 26.20 is did you feel something different about the the focus at that point of this team or is it just a bit of modernism what's going on right now because it seemed different. I just think the job wasn't done we we had nothing to be excited about at the moment you know we're

excited there to game we're making a plays but at that time at halftime you go back to 0-0 the score they scored a thing in a half we knew they got the ball back the defense wasn't quite happy that they gave that touchdown to end and we knew they get in the ball back coming out but we was excited because we knew the job wasn't doing it. Bill Rebellion's Columbus Dispash. You were a five star guy and that coming all these guys in the room almost were five star guys and then there's Jeremiah. Is he like does he like all you guys in the room? I mean I'm not sure it's probably something you got to ask him but you know Jeremiah has played with a lot of great guys throughout his career he's seen a lot of all the talent you can see in the world but I don't know if he's ever in all but I mean oh yeah I mean I'm not surprised at anything he does now like I've seen him just out we were nine years old so anything he does any one hand catch I've seen I'm not surprised at anything he does. When he was nine did you know this is not

this is something special we've been made in a nine? Oh yeah I mean coaches were coming up to us complaining that we we weren't nine years old like can we can we get their IDs and stuff like that so I mean I mean there's definitely some footage that we got to go find but the place we used to make when we were younger and just to see where he is now it's amazing. It seems very unaffected by all of the starter. Yeah how does how does that happen? I think how he was raised he's very level headed he knows his goals and what he wants to get done in life and this is just one step of the way for him. Can I throw a back to Texas for a couple of questions on Zoom Scotty? Yes sir we're going to start with Defon from Cleaning.com go ahead. Brandon I want to go back to what you were talking about with coach Day earlier you know whatever he talks about this team success he says all the credit goes through players that seems like the players think that he deserves some of the credit how big how influential is he been you

know in the turnaround you guys have had these last few weeks? He's been huge man coming here after that team of North lost he knows heartbreaking of course but we came in here we had a leadership meeting and he was in here I mean and then we had a team meeting after that hearing the stuff he had to say and we had to say going back and forth we just we knew we we have his back no matter what I mean there's a lot of stuff said about him and his family and stuff like that but and here we're brotherhood and we're family and we just we go stand by him no matter what. Our next question is going to come from Dan hope Dan go ahead? Brandon I mean I'm sure you came in here to Ohio State thinking you'd probably be starting here in your second year but it seems like you really embraced the growth process just what's kind of that process been like for you of kind of embracing your role this season and continuing to develop? Yeah in life things doesn't go the way you exactly planted too and that just did happen you know things happened to Mecca last year that allowed him to come back and that allowed me

to learn more and that's just how I see it makes me a better football player for the future so yeah I mean yeah let's see it. Three more on zoom next one's going to come from Stefan um means go ahead? I'm steaming but that's darn yeah you're good it's but Brandon there are a lot of clips of you this year where you're super super excited after a block and kind of showing your emotion there what about blocking do you love so much as a receiver? Just being able to hit another guy with all my power the hardest I can without any get any consequences except if you accept a few hold of course but um yeah just bringing that power I mean I heard some of the defensive guys telling me yesterday they were like bro I hate to go against you so knowing that from the defensive guys um so I know what the other defensive guys are thinking like just keep bringing it to them they're not going

to like it for four quarters as mama said. Next question is going to come from Danny Davis Danny go ahead and Brandon um what are your impressions of these Texas defensive backs and this kind of we've seen from them on on film stuff? Yeah the last couple days we watched them they're fast team they don't give up many big plays down field um they're aggressive but I actually know some of the debees they have uh at corner there oh my play with them oh well I played with Malik Muhammad at SFE so I might know him a little bit and um we have been watching them they're fast team they're physical they're disciplined but we just got to get the job done. Give any Malik stories or any any what do you say? Give any Malik stories or anything you remember about playing with them? Oh um yeah but I'm not going to say them here uh yeah we'll just keep that yeah

Our final question is going to come from Kurt Bulls Kurt go ahead? Hey Brandon one of the issues Texas has had the second half of the year is finishing and what if you can speak to uh and they had a trouble obviously in the peach bowl you know blue was 16 point league and you talk about finishing and having a killer instinct and and you guys obviously seem to have that now yeah um I think that starts to started in uh offseason training at Fall camp we always say go plus two if it you're doing a 10-yard pro-shuttle do uh you have to go plus two throughout the line and that's just finishing up as well and then fall camp we had these long two and a half hour practices or whatnot and then we came out and we had to do these um finishers we called them ask for games late in the year like this and we um I think Coach Day has a great did a great job preparing all of us for these moments and yeah we just we're ready to go We have time for just a couple more questions in clumpets so we can wrap up with our other two guys

uh Bill Landis Kingston the North. Brandon um sure maybe on the second touchdown run it seemed like you took two players out of the play first with your release and then with the guy you actually blocked is that is that how it's designed or was it just was it lucky to the guy decided to take off inside of the release um it's actually designed for me to block the safety and leave uh the corner one on one with the running back um but I was surprised at the corner I see came in so far in my release I think he thought it was a pass um but I think he was the edge of the defense if you if you go watch that play but I don't know I I don't really know why he came in so far but it helped out for us and I made my block interior score. Is there any lesson there for for like a young receiver watching that that even if you know on the play you're not getting the ball you're you're intended to block but you your release has to be at all point like as if you're gonna go catch pass yeah definitely um every little detail matters and then type of plays we were in a red zone there so we say every yard matters is two yards um so the block I made it's just a

testament to cow coach hardline prep prep me throughout the week to make that block so yeah and final question Joy Confend Columbus this batch. Brandon Will and then there's been some of the vaults equally um some of especially the way you guys have opened games what do you what do you think is this click for you guys and for him and watching those plays um a lot more confidence I say throughout the year um we were always there as offense we had we didn't know we didn't quite know identity and now slowly but surely I think we found that and we're gonna keep on rolling and um he's made some great throws and yeah I'm sorry Brandon I do have one more steep how do you do 24-7s for you Brandon there've been opportunities for you to to play a huge role on offense and you know the number of plays you play a game can differ from one week to the next but the opportunity is coming sooner rather than later for you to be in every down player just one of the things you need to do in your game to take it from where it is now to be in every down guy um I think there's a

lot of things I could work on in my game um I would say continuing to be football smart my IQ just knowing what the defense is gonna do before they do it um my routes always can get better my hands always can get better staying in the jugging machine um work ethic keep on top of it don't get don't get satisfied with anything I do and don't don't get too big don't get too low don't get too high don't get too low it's what they say yeah you feel like a guy that the people follow it seems like just in your mind even though just second your guy that you're kind of working toward being kind of a leadership type guy yeah um I got but to have guys that will take that role yeah um it's a great feeling of course the no guys are watching what you do and listen to what you do um but I just feel like we we do that with a lot of players here and not just myself but um the leadership we have on this team is like no other and that's why we got so far I think Brandon thank you very much Trabia what's it to you about the possible experience of this season for you

just step up six many I mean it means that they can have really I must get the learn right now I love your sit here and I mean I mean I just got to learn everything slowly of course there's a lot to learn um but I got a lot of hope so you guys had a very unique experience all the early and rollies you got a chance to go to you know to set my final some of you went to the Rose Bowl there's nothing caught a little national championship game what was like what was that like how much did you think that helped uh that was the cradle we just see how other leaders led in that uh position and just seeing what they did how they prepared that's not helping out with everybody what was the highlight of that that time other than winning the national championship itself was there something that stands out to you uh just being able to uh trouble and get to meet up everybody meet all the players um everybody I won an addy and meet all uh early and rollies that early it's been most difficult part of making the transition from life to the moon what has been

I was really just living on my own garb being the favorite um that's pretty much it yeah and you feel comfortable on that are you still trying to get on trying to set up this I mean of course you're just me but I'm getting just for you uh yes your money is 100% I mean of course it's hard to miss my senior year uh last year kind of with some of his friends what did you do to you uh it was an interview really good oh really it says i was uh baby my uh dad like my dad my master's partner like my son like once i was born okay why did you mind if i picked that uh uh my dad looked up to me and i'm a junior so

here i think you should be your first name in the heart right yeah okay so could wear eight two you got two choices okay it's a desire that can be addicted for people you know i think i fell into that no way younger age but super bud that's not did you get it? I watched the lab last time you started a landman on the planet download it it's a great show what you can tell the little eyes but i don't know that this life seems like all right i don't know how he handles it it's a good show girl i'm like the over it seems to be coming on the count of it all right i'm excited to see how it goes what did you like it Jared? oh i thought he did a good job i was surprised honestly he seemed like he knew what he was doing for sure he was

did he afford a question you say you hit your mom's salary yes we did all mom gonna pay for his or uh i don't know what to talk about that just to have a meeting or something to continue yeah well let me first off i think i'd be doing this service to to my teammates uh you know me even think about what's next because you know what's right in front of us is an overlaid and that's another thing i got to tell so much through is just being present in every single moment that i'm in you know not looking too far ahead because i'm tripping on what's right in front of me so um again i just that's that's too so for sure of thank you for meeting me think about what's next

good good are you at least aware that there's a lot of speculation out there that people are gonna throw huge numbers that you're going before all the season i mean right now i'm just not worried about all that stuff i mean people can say all they want to say but you know i'm just focused on focus on Friday okay nervous um i mean i i still get nervous for sure but i just don't think i think i do a good job just understanding that that moment whatever moment it is that i'm nervous about it doesn't define who i am as a person and it doesn't define who i am and god's eyes and understanding and knowing that that's just kind of put like this force field of peace around me that i think it allows me to be able to be calm in certain situations but it doesn't look that's not good nervous

i mean i just love the game so much and if you don't get nervous or a little bit of but because i don't think you you have that same love i mean i've got butterflies since you know going into football games since i was you know fox six years old so i don't know that's just not going to be a good job i don't know i just you know football just doesn't mean as much as it did to me back then i want it to always mean that didn't really work i've been told but i'm not out of it i think so i'm just going to let you go the high-stakes and the dance for the next year yeah i'm just going to go high and stay guys really playing as much so i just wanted to get like more experience under my belt so i can know bring younger guys with me because i've been through a lot of it one of those younger guys we're seeing it on the first time i scored all these last years what have you seen from well because i kind of felt like last year we all forgot about it because he was hurt and now he's running you know almost a second man up behind you and

what have you seen in the red games right now uh well as a workhorse he he goes stay quiet he's going to work hard and that's all i love about him he focuses he don't really talk much he's just going to get the job done do a job right rarely has any mistakes what would be a successful season uh a national championship i ring win all the games we don't want to lose anything uh we got a mindset that we can't be beat which we got to go show it seems like you guys expect the national championship every year this year even more so you guys have all come back for this you guys have all decided like the numbers and what is that is you can feel the difference or is there not really any difference it's just the same work uh it's definitely a difference everyone working harder um we noticed our last run like we most of us don't have any years after this so we got to go go bigger going home and we not trying to go home finished big we know what you guys think of Michigan but when you look at what they did they won the national championship and you guys took them down to the final minute

right you know what i mean i mean you you were right there something goes a little different you guys could have been one that came against them does that tell you anything about like that hey you guys want to win a national championship but you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year like you're that close so i'm saying uh we just like work harder that's that's kind of coach makes uh saying you know nobody cares his work harder like those you know one plate Georgia is the same thing yeah last last play you know they went on the win in 90 so we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season i think we'll be fine how frustrating is that you're that close against the last two national titles uh of course is you know it's frustrating but you can't change the outcome you can't really dwell on uh dwell on it you just got to you know come back and work harder do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change is that as you get older you kind of learned i thought i was working hard and you always find out there's a little more you could have been doing yeah definitely i mean that's how that's what growing up is basically in college and i thought freshman year i was

working it's hard as i could but now i look back at it i really wasn't working hard at all compared to what i'm doing now so just to learn anything if the stamina is a 60 then the answer to like what do you need it to be to be your best uh 80 85 i mean i can it's all on me i just i think it's a little higher i was just trying to be funny but i mean it's all on me i just got to run harder get in shape you know what i mean it's about can you last that long do you have worries? i think i think i think i definitely can last i was just you know we got to get the young guys that come along with us we can't play 50 snaps again that's just too much on our bodies uh just everybody like online deline we got to get those younger guys to play you know get that pieces on the deline and the online and everywhere else so we can last that long run

i don't know if any of us were really expected to be for that next time uh yeah i did unless we were like winning by like a lot uh i thought like there are no some omelies you know i can go sit down or something but we're playing them big games like you know norther than two or north those kind of games i of course i want to be because i know i can contribute and i won't want to put that on anyone else when i know i can get the job done what stands out about taking McDonald's because you got the key you got some of the second game oh yeah definitely came back as uh came back to animal y'all you haven't really seen it yet but in practice he shows all the time he's just he's just he's growing right now he has a work I think he just has to get you know in the playbook things like that you guys are about the exact same size listen you're both listen six three you're three twenty seven he's three twenty six yeah he's i kind of look at him like my my junior but you know came out he's gonna be a great player he's just got to develop more and getting to playbook so really a lot on you older guys there's that large group of young guys and then there's the senior in the back is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys yeah definitely we got to be leaders um like i say we

got to have them play this year we can't just play all the snaps they got to get in there and get some work and we got to get them right learn all season so they can play and not just play they want to like contribute like make plays tackles sex seems like these guys get figures each one first from the class looks thinner or bigger uh those guys kind of does it kind of while you're the first yeah they're definitely some big dudes um and they all work hard i'm really seeing much it's only a day two when i'm passing on but throughout the workouts they've been working hard you know they they're determined i just say that and it looks like they're ready to work with me i'm going to put this notes feels like there's a lot of great defenses that you have big athletic defensive tackles who can eat up space but also move you know right there is that because i have an environment maybe through great defense to have guys like you that have some fault but also a great feature i think that is definitely i think if you look at the last

couple national championship winners are like team of north they didn't know they got two good uh detaco two athletic detacles look at Georgia two athletic detacles so i think that's definitely neat if you want to go on a big run and beat those big teams if you think about this if they want to fight by the defense attack there's like what's Georgia's Jordan Davis and Janet Carter let's miss again it's Chris Jenkins so a couple more questions we find it like how i mean you understand it because you play it but i feel like some time i don't know it's about people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to i think so uh i i think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freakiest detacles yeah like in the combine just now you see in like those guys they're moving four to four seven eights and things like that so we'll see and when you think about those freakish how do you think you fit into that all of that kind of player watch that and say yeah that's me yeah definitely i think i'm top-notch when it comes to detacles but i don't want to you know get a big head but you know watch

the command i watch the dude do the drills i have tape here you like you're looking like my film so i think i'm up there with all this time i think you become like a artist and it comes in bad down passes the figure wags hand your things i mean when you're going you're not doing it as much a weapon i don't know how to do that stuff how do you work on that do you have like a goal one months i don't remember how many i mean as many as i can have i think i have more than that but i think they're counting i think they're counting some of them and it's some of them where i like just listed so but i think we work on drills matching the hand i think that's uh goes big and uh what we do is a d line you know just affecting the quarter bag is anyway you can it's just great for the defense you know just that little thing covering his eye you know he might throw it a little bit to the left to our player so so let's something that you really have to work on it that's one of the things that you maybe worked on the most you could bring your time here because there are a few guys that i've seen like oh that

passes you down we don't have to ask this kind of kind of expect it for the people i think i just have like a like a eye for the ball kind of i kind of just look at the quarterback and just i see him like load up i just try to get in his ways and sometimes he throws it to me so i don't know how you're treated if you like to be a high state quarterback skid i mean they get frustrated by you know we're a team you know we're just getting back much a lot of a lot of different backsman and just learn and grow for them i don't really have a top three but i'll give you i'll give you one i would say sequan gibs and i like mccaffrey auto he was injured this year i like mccaffrey best back in this draft i'll lead out of the yard that's y'all that's y'all decision playing with well Howard when i'm going to remember most

we're a Howard man he's just such a great lead such a great leader man it's just like in moments where you know usually a lot of players they fold man he was just always calm and relaxed man he just the leader that he was man that's one thing i'm gonna remember about him yeah he's shoot he's gonna be really good man he's um coastal lock i think he got the transfer in as well from west vijand just that one two punch with them both as well they're gonna be really good backs and so james people's man he's smart the way that he goes about his business man he's mature and so man he's growing you know just as a person and as a player and so man yeah definitely oh hi estate you know that running back room is in gray hands yeah um coach coach hard line man he's full of energy man and he's creative as well you know i'm just learning from him as well you know i'm trying to run more outside the backfield was being able to learn from coach hard line and so he's definitely creative

at what he's he does and he brings a lot of energy to the team as well and so i think they'll do really good just intensity man then since he got the playoffs um every game man it's like the intensity got you know higher and higher and so um you know being able i know in the lead it's the same thing even if it's not the playoffs just every every game and then since he keeps getting higher and higher and so yeah you just i know you got to bring it you know each and every day and come in and work just like Ohio State you know i definitely feel like Ohio State they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that you know i just remember even before going through this process i'll talk to a lot of players um before then and they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them you know for the NFL and so yeah yeah yeah i know i took a couple days off after the um national championship and then

shoot right after that i'm writing writing sample floored and i'm right to it and so um yeah i think while trained i trained at um your birth performance um i think it's called the house of athlete or the compound now um they did they did a good job man i'm just um bringing us in and the way they went about training us man they were they did a really good job the bucket in the airs no i haven't breathing in the city and then i'll jump to the temple a temple nice this is nice it's a nice city man really nice uh the 40 to broad and avert yeah yeah no man uh it's really all about technique and then it's about my set as well and so um i say you know it's for the love of my brother it's for the love of will highway it's for the love of the receivers who i got on the perimeter just making sure you know um first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked um and i i told will i think it was before the first game i was

like i got your brother it's uh i said man i'm i'm not gonna let you get hit you know um and so um i don't know if i don't know if i gave up a sack i'm not sure that um but i know if i did i haven't given up too many and so man it's for the love of my brothers though man making sure the the ball getting their hands you know the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed in my game uh you can't really work on this you know in all season i feel like it's more so you know you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run you know maybe uh it's really just continuing run through tackles and so that's i feel like that's one of the areas in my game you know i want to continue to get better at i feel like i did a good job of that my senior and so i just want to continue to build on that yes i did yes i did uh i did me with um new orlands as well um i never got that comparison actually um i know i

know i'm a comrade sure yep man i would come here great great back man um just what he does and knows one on one match up see dangerous man and he's so smooth he's so smooth as well i'm not going to lie he's smooth yeah um inside zone from stack being able to hit that thing downhill and i say the next one it's probably just an option route out of the backfield you know and man and man coverage you're getting on that line backer and so yeah i say the man the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself man in the way that man um he approaches the game he comes in with the mindset you know he's going to work every single week you know every practice you know he's working hard you know um even shoot it i don't know every

thing he had every game was a good game for him man and so but still man he always has the mentality to mindset that you know he's going to come in each and every day he's going to continue to work and get better man and so he's definitely man he's going to be a special player man he really is man a lot of ups and downs man it's just how you respond to adversity and i feel like that's something that god has definitely helped me to do better is this um now i have something to lean on now you know i remember before i met him you know going through those adversity i had nothing to run to you know you can run to people but they still can't it's not too much they can't truly help you you know i feel like you know i feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ and so being able to lean on him you know he gives you in those moments where it's tough you know where it's low and um when you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about um he gives you he gives you that peace and comfort

you know um even in those moments man we're so hard that you can't you can't explain it's like man i'm going through this but like how am i still filled with this internal joy you know how do i have so much peace in this situation and so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you and so um man those guys have such a great mentality man i might just really love their mentality especially um q as well you know i talked about will how are his leadership but quenchant mentality man um that boy just yeah that boy just gifted you know you see you know sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like you know he should have a negative five yards and as soon as you know it you know he that running through somebody still farming somebody and she was just gaining a 10 it's uh

shoot i think yeah man i think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest he's just gifted you know he's he's a big back you know he's strong and so um you know he's he's able to do he's able to do those things and so um yeah man it's definitely you know i look at his game and i want to you know at the same time i want to learn from quenchant you know i want to look at this game is like man where where can i get better at as well you know that's the type of player i am i'm always looking to get better man i'm always looking to grow as a player julian san oh yeah he's gonna be a great but he's gonna be a great quarterback man he's so so accurate and so um he's definitely man i know coach day is definitely going to get him right just you know um container grow as a leader container grow as a player and so he's going he's gonna be really good for high state uh he's i know just the quarterback position um i feel like you know the quarterbacks in the past they've they've definitely been vocal and so i feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um ask julian san as well it's to be that vocal leader and lead the and lead to offense and lead to steam

thanks shoe man he has he has a build like jk dobbins and um i kind of see them you know similar similarities in their game as well and i know jk dobbins he was a great running back um i feel like he's not talked about his none um a lot but man his career here you watch his highlights is is great i remember um before i recruit before i committee here i remember watching jk dobbins highlights like every every um one of his years here like four or five times and so man he was such a great back and um i feel like you know um when i see jk dobbins when i see um james people i see similarities to both of their games i feel like they play the same and so i appreciate you all y'all y'all be going

you all i got coming in last round new year also i just attacked argy day really the same way thanks to the band very rare physically how different are you weight wise body wise on that from the year i think i got a lot bigger i'm like 240 you know like 244 right now last year i played it like 236 to 37 what does it feel like a 244 or a belly you feel like a almost a different machine out there yeah what does it what does it feel like to be running around out there like you are but with more more back i just feel like i'm like like like more downhill like stronger like i'm taking all blocks better it's a big no is it daunting uh maybe that's not the

correct term but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year and you played quite a bit last year instead what do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more just gotta get ready to just play 30 more snacks so but are you are you how would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an eight day point yeah i'm looking forward to it i'm ready for it my i'm ready for it the text is opener it's a rematch so to speak but it's not really two different teams compared to the ones that i'm going to play the stuff how's that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the where an opener of that magnitude yeah with an opener like that we've been um we've been emphasizing it a lot we know we got coming so we know we gotta do we're prepared for it already does probably with uh i think Riley ready to play right now he he advanced freshman like he in the he in the book he stood in like he advanced and his measurements is crazy like he saw like the saw line too said you're ready right what was that process like during last season could you feel yourself

becoming more and more ready whatever the team needed for you yeah because that's pretty much what my role was just whenever i was needed i had to step up so i feel like that's what built me into me being able to say i'm ready for this year when you say ready is it more a physical thing is it a mental thing when i say ready i think it's pretty much like everything physically mentally most of me i think i'm there a different is that feeling this year than last year uh asked a one more time how different is that response bill um i feel like it's uh it's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year but i kind of go about it the same way like last year i was intentional with everything i did i feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing it's probably a little bit more oh

it won't work how's anybody worked your watch yeah uh i say describe my game i say like when you think of me you would think of like a like a bully like a silver bullet i don't really a bullet i'm always on the ball that's how i like to play a thing you know what i'm gonna body that no i ain't got to be my nickname but so i'm not saying that the nickname did that so i'm gonna be like yeah yeah yeah that's like um think it fit me because i don't know i just like the defense i feel like we got like you say we got a lot of freedom and we're moving around a lot a lot of the terms is like no i don't know i don't really not answer that that's okay does it you get to go on your instincts a little bit more baby and it's not so thinking of too much i don't even know if i say that because there's a lot of

thinking going on but it's like i just like his defense i like how the pressure differs i like what he got going on uh now i wanted to much sad i was kind of like happy for you yeah that's what you want no that's my dog i'll say yeah kind of missing a little bit but yeah i'm happy for him though i don't think go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for that wasn't maybe your national championship you guys will win your own yeah how much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year but will be in this bigger role and i want to summon your your plasma yeah i do feel like um yeah i do feel like i did win the nattie last year but like you said my role wasn't same as how's my beat is here so yeah i definitely want to want to go get another one experienced that like feeling with me be on the field a lot more place i said great oh well thank you very much i've been using you you know that almost had

saved you row of stuff how much is it grown uh that you could put your finger on yeah i was growing immensely i mean uh kale if he makes a lot of checks lathe and makes a lot of checks i listened to them whatever they need if i needed cover somebody out i'll go cover anybody if they need me to uh do run support i'll do run support and it's really uh what kaleb does what we do and lathe it just goes back to the coach g's preparation um and everyone's preparation to give us more flexibility and doesn't matter who's in those positions and we can all play every position whether it's covering somebody or running running and tackling yeah did you feel like that was the case before the organ game you're saying what i'm saying is that something's been added uh it just you know rely on a little bit more go ahead yeah it did i've probably been a broska game uh me getting more safety reps and we had a five week to prepare so i really learned the playbook a lot more even though i knew the playbook i learned a lot more mount like in debt you know so uh really just after the organ game it helped me a lot to go back to safety go go to

nico and everywhere you guys had a lot of issues of giving up big plays in the passing game of the first game against Oregon what do you feel like you guys need to do better this time around just to make sure that doesn't happen uh just the same same mindset we got to challenge these receivers um you know every dog has their day maybe some people didn't have their day that that game but um we'll look out there and hopefully change the narrative and we still play with the same confidence same technique and yeah they'll reveal it's one of this batch and Denzel obviously had a tough game and that one what have you seen from him and how he's responded do you get a sense of from him how he is for this rematch oh yeah he's super stoked for this rematch um his preparation has been very good um he's always been preparing you know it didn't go the way he wanted to go that game but he just always had had his confidence and we're going to see a big game out of him uh this week and you know I know you guys wanted to play them in anapolis but the fact

that you get to play them at the Rose Bowl I mean get a second chance and people have said you don't get that very often how determined are you guys to take advantage of it we're super super determined uh we watch film I mean we've lost a lot of film the first time we play them now we got another six games that they played of film to watch and it's just they've grown a lot as a team same as us we've grown a lot we're not the same team we were when we played them week one or week six or whatever but now we're out there and going to play fast physical and everything like that all right Jordan we're going to jump to the to assume a question here from Joey Kaufman Columbus this batch my bad not to Joey Cameron T. Robinson the athletic hey Jordan um you moved around a lot in the second day I knew in your career and now kind of getting some many more safety reps what is it like at this point when when Walt or Coach Mills comes to you and asks you to do some else and then just how much can you lean on the experiences you've had moving around when you're trying to learn something new in the middle of the season

uh means a lot we always talk about when this is even being on selfish uh whether that's making plays or not making plays or doing your job so another person can make plays that's kind of what we pride ourselves on and it's just fun me moving around different positions uh I'm always up for a new challenge and a lot of people in the country can't do that I just hold myself to that standard where I can play any position and excel at it okay uh everybody else needs a question let me know but otherwise we can go to Austin more of the podcast Jordan when you were talking about watching film Oregon which one do you think is more valuable to you watching that against yourself you know seven games ago even if you've changed or the ensuing six games for Oregon which one do you put more stock in kind of both for me uh I kind of watch what I did things I did well things I didn't do too well against them and their team is that life their scheme has changed some players have been out those those stretch of games so I really watched the past game we played

and I know they're gonna go back to some of the stuff that they liked of course and different games like Penn State maybe Illinois they run a lot of men so just watching watching stuff like that every game matters so yeah Jordan thank you very much thank you we plan as much so I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt so I can know bring younger guys with me because I've been through one of those younger guys we're seeing it like the first time I scored all year like what have you seen from Lowe because kind of like last year we all forgot about it because he was heard and now he's running you know almost a second man up behind you and Ty what have you seen uh what was the workhorse he he goes stay quiet you go and work hard and that's what I love about he focuses he don't really talk much he's going to get a job done do a job right rarely has any mistakes so what what would be a successful season uh the national championship I ring when all the games we don't want to lose anything uh we got a mindset that we can't be beat and we just gotta go show it

it seems like you guys expect the national championship every year this year even more so you guys have all come back for this you guys have all decided like that that was a lot but is that is he could feel the difference or is there not really any difference it's just the same work uh it's definitely a difference everyone working harder um we noticed our last run like we most of us don't have any years after this so we got to go go bigger going home and we not trying to go home finished big we know what you guys think of Michigan but when you look at what they did they won the national championship and you guys took them down to the final minute right you know what I mean I mean you you were right there something goes a little different you guys could have could won that game against them does that tell you anything about like that hey you guys want to win a national championship but you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year like you're that close so I'm saying uh we just like work harder that's that's kind of coach makes uh saying you know nobody cares just work harder like those you know when we played Georgia it's the same thing uh last last play you know they went

on the win in 90 so we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season I think we'd be fine how frustrating is that you're that close against the last two national title uh of course as you know it's frustrating but you can't change the outcome you can't really do other one uh do I own it you just gotta you know come back and work harder do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change and as you get older you kind of learn I thought I was working hard and you always find out there's a little more you could have been doing yeah definitely I mean that's how that's what growing up is basically in college and I thought French me I was working as hard as I could but now I look back at it I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now so just to learn anything 80 85 I mean I can this all on me I just I think it's a little higher I was just trying to be funny but I mean it's all on me I just got to run harder get the shape I think I think I definitely can last I was just you know we

got to get the young guys to come along with us we can't play 50 snaps again that's just too much on our bodies just everybody like online D line we got to get those younger guys to play you know get that pieces on the D line and online and everywhere else so we can last that long run yeah I did unless we were like winning by like a lot I thought like there are no moments you know I can go sit down or something but we're playing them big games like you know Notre Dame too or North those kind of games of course I want to be because I know I can contribute and I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I get the job oh yeah definitely K-Mac is a K-Mac's animal y'all you haven't really seen it yet but in practice he shows all the time he's just he's just he's growing right now he has to work I think he just has to get you know in the playbook things like that you guys are about the exact same size you're both listen six three

you're three twenty seven he's three twenty six yeah he's I kind of look at him like my my junior but you know K-Mac he's gonna be a great player he's got to develop more and get into playbook it's really a lot on you older guy there's that large group of young guys and they just these seniors in your back is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys yeah definitely we got to be leaders um like I say we got to have them play this year we can't just play all the snaps they got to get in there and get some work and we got to get them right during the all season so they can play and I just played they want to like contribute like make plays tackles sex yeah they're definitely some big dudes um and they all work hard I'm really seeing much it's only day two I'm not a bad one but throughout the workouts they've been working hard you know they they're determined and it looks like they're ready to work with me

I'm going to score this notes feels like there's a lot of great defense that you have big athletic defense attacks we can eat up space but also move you know right there is that because I'm inquiring maybe from great defense to have guys like you that have some balls but also a great team I think that is definitely I think if you look at the last uh a couple of national championship winners uh like team up north they you know they got two good uh detaco two athletic detacles look at Georgia two athletic detacles I think that's definitely need if you want to go on that big run it be those big teams okay if you think about that they won't defied by the defense attackers like what's Georgia Jordan Davis and James Carter let's miss again it's Chris Jenkins come on four questions you know how I mean you understand this was your play but I feel like some time I don't know are people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to I think so uh I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these

like freakiest detacles yeah like in the combine just now you see in like those guys they're moving four to four seven eights and things like that so we'll see and when you think it when you think about this freakish attack how do you think you fit into that all of that kind of player you watch that and say yeah that's me yeah definitely I think I'm top-notch when it comes to detacles but I don't want to you know get a big head but you know I watch it come on I watch it do do the drills I have tape to you like you're looking like my film so I think I'm up there with all those things you're going you're not doing much a lot of I mean as many as I can have I think I have more than that but I think they're counting I think they didn't count some of them and some of them were like just missed it so but I think we work on

drills matching the hand I think that's goes big and what we do is a deal on you know just affecting the quarter of that is anyway you can it's just great for the defense you know just that little thing covering his eye you know he might throw it a little bit to the left to our player I think I just have like a like a eye for the ball kind of I kind of just look at the quarterback and just I see him I load up I just try to get in his way and sometimes he just throws it to me I mean they get frustrated but you know we're a team you know we're just getting better watch a lot a lot of different backs man they just learn to grow for them you gotta pick your top three backs and you gotta go right now hold on to

I don't really have a top three but I'll give you I'll give you one I would say say quan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey auto he was injured this year I like McCaffrey best back in this draft I'll lead that out the yard that's y'all that's y'all decision playing well Howard when I'm going to remember most uh we're a Howard man he's just such a great lead such a great leader man it's just like in moments where you know usually a lot of players they fold man he was just always calm and relaxed man he just the leader that he was man that's one thing I'm gonna remember about him yeah he's shoot he's gonna be really good man he's um coast lock I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia just that one two punch with them both as well they're gonna be really good backs and so James people's man he's smart the way that he goes about his business man he's mature and so man he's growing you know just as a

as a person in as a player and so man yeah definitely Ohio State you know that running back from his engraved hand yeah coach coach heart line man he's full of energy man and he's creative as well you know I'm just learning from him as well you know I'm trying to run more outside the backfield was being able to learn from coach heart line and so he's definitely creative at what he does and he brings a lot of energy to the team as well and so I think that would do really good that's what my strategy just that I'm just in ten city man then ten city out of playoffs um every game and it's like the intensity got you know higher and higher and so you know being able I know in the lead it's it's the same thing even if it's not the playoffs just every every game and then ten city it keeps getting higher and higher and so yeah you just I know you got to bring it you know each and every day and come in and work just like Ohio State you know I definitely feel like

Ohio State they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that you know I just remember even before going through this process I'll I'll talk to a lot of players um before then and they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them you know for the NFL and so yeah yeah yeah I know I took a couple days off after the um national championship and then shoot right after that I'm right in right in Tampa Florida and I'm right to it and so um yeah I think while trained I trained that on your morph performance um I think it's called the House of Athlete or the compound now um they did they did a good job man it just um bringing us in and the the way they went about training us man they were they did a really good job the bucket near know I haven't Tampa a Tampa nice this is nice it's a nice city man really nice uh the 40 to broad and avert

yeah yeah yeah nah man uh it's really all about technique and then it's about mine said as well and so um I say you know it's for the love of my brother it's for the love of will highway it's for the love of the receivers who I got on the perimeter just making sure you know um first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked um and I I told will I think it was before the first game I was like I got your brother it's uh I said man I'm not gonna let you get hit you know um and so I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack I'm not sure that um but I know if I did I haven't given up too many and so man it's for the love of my brother's though man making sure the the ball get in their hands you know the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed you had to hit the practice field later today what is something you've been working on right now in my game uh you can't really work on this you know in all season I feel like it's more so you know you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run you know maybe

uh it's really just continuing run through tackles and so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my game you know I want to continue to get better I feel like I did a good job of that my senior and so I just want to continue to build on that yes I did yes I did I did me with um New Orleans as well um I never got that comparison actually um I know I have a Camera shoe yeah man I have a Camera great great back man um just what he does and knows 101 matchups he's dangerous man and he's so smooth he's so smooth as well I'm not going like he's smooth yeah um inside zone from stack being able to hit that thing downhill and I say the next one it's probably just an option route out of the backfield you know and man and man coverage you're getting on that linebacker and so yeah I say the man the biggest thing is the

way that he carries himself man in the way that man um he approaches the game he comes in with the mindset you know he's going to work every single week you know every practice you know he's working hard you know um even shoot I don't know every good I think he had every game was a good game for him man and so but still man he always has the mentality to mindset that you know he's going to come in each and every day he's going to continue to work and get better man and so he's definitely man he's going to be a special player man he really is so man a lot of ups and downs man it's just how you respond to adversity and I feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better is just um not have something to lean on now you know I remember before I met him you know going through those adversity I had nothing to run to you know you can run to people but they still can't it's not too much they can't truly help you you know I feel like you know I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ and so being able to lean on him you know he gives you

in those moments where it's tough you know where it's slow and um when you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about um he gives you he gives you that peace and comfort you know um even in those moments man where it's so hard that you can't you can't explain it's like man I'm going through this but like how am I still filled with this internal joy you know how do I have so much peace in this situation and so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you and so um man eight those guys have such a great mentality man am I just really love their mentality especially um cue as well you know I talked about will Howard his leadership but Quinch on mentality man um that boy just yeah that boy just gifted you know you see you know sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like you know he should have a negative five yards

and as soon as you know it you know he that running through somebody step on him somebody and she was just a gain of 10 and so uh shoot I think yeah man I think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest he's just gifted you know he's he's a big back you know he's strong and so um you know he's he's able to do he's able to do those things and so um yeah man it's definitely you know I look at his game and I want to you know at the same time I want to learn from Quinch on you know I want to look at this game is like man where where can I get better at as well you know that's the type of player I am I'm always looking to get better man I'm always looking to grow as a player Julian San oh yeah he's gonna be a great but he's gonna be a great quarterback man he's so so accurate and so um he's definitely man I know Coach Dez definitely going to get him right just you know um container grow as a leader container grow as a player and so he's going he's gonna be really good for our state uh he's that I know just a quarterback position um I feel like

you know the quarterbacks in the past they've they've definitely been vocal and so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um ask him Julian San as well it's to be that vocal leader and lead the um and lead to offense and lead to steam shoe man he has he has a build like JK Dobbins and um I kind of see them you know similar similarities in their game as well and I know JK Dobbins he was a great running back um I feel like he's not talked about his none um a lot but man his career here you watch his highlights is is great I remember um before I recruit before I committed here I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights like every every um one of his years here like four or five times and so man he was such a great back and um I feel like you know um when I see JK Dobbins when I see um James people I see similarities to both of their games I feel like they play the same and so appreciate you all yeah I'll be going

well I got coming in last round to the road so I just attacked every day really the same way it's taking advantage very well physically how different are you weight wise body wise all that from your uh my thing I got a lot bigger I'm like 240 you know like 244 right now last year I played it like 236 to 37 what does it feel like a 244 or a belt you feel like almost a different machine out there yeah what does it what does it feel like to be running around out there like you are but with more uh more back I just feel like I'm like like like like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking all bloods better it's bigger yeah is it daunting uh maybe that's not the correct term but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year and you played quite a bit last year instead what do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more just got to get ready to just play 30 more snaps so but are you are you how would you

describe how much you're looking forward to it from an inch standpoint yeah I'm looking forward to it I'm ready for it my I'm ready for it the text is open it's a rematch and so to speak but it's not really two different teams compared to us I'm y'all play stuff but how has that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for like we're an opener of that magnitude yeah with an opener like that we've been um we've been emphasizing it a lot we know we got coming so we know we got to do we're prepared for it I think Riley ready to play right now he he advanced freshman like he ended he in the book he stood in like he advanced and his measurements crazy like he saw like saw like to him you said you're ready what was that process like during last season could you feel yourself becoming more and more ready yeah cuz that's pretty much what my role was just whenever I was needed I had to step up so I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year when you say ready is it more a physical thing is it a mental thing when I say

ready I think it's pretty much like everything physically mentally mostly I think I'm there a different is that feeling this year than last year oh I still one more time how different is that responsibility that should be that you just call that one last year you know you real well um I feel like it's uh it's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year but I kind of go about it the same way like last year I was attention to what everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing it's probably a little bit more it won't work I say describe like now I say like when you think of me you would think of like a like a bullet like a silver bullet but I'm really a bullet I'm always on the ball that's how I like to play a thing

like one of my body no I ain't got to be my nickname but yeah yeah yeah yeah that's like um think it fit me because I don't know I just like the defense I feel like we got like you say we got a lot of freedom and we moving around a lot a lot of the terms is like no I don't know I don't really not answer that I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on but it's like I just like it's different I like what you got going on I was sad when now I wanted to say that I was kind of like happy fun that's my dog I'm gonna say yeah kind of missing a little bit but yeah I'm happy fun

I don't think go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for that wasn't maybe your national championship you guys know in your own yeah how much do you feel that is a guy who certainly contributed last year but will be in this bigger role and along with some of your your classmates yeah I do feel like um yeah I do feel like I did win a nati last year but like you said my role wasn't same as how's gonna be this year so yeah I definitely want to want to go get another one experienced that like feeling maybe on the field a lot more place it's great oh well thank you very so I feed and actually use it that you can have some still sometimes like basketball want to be on that just like defend but you know I got to stay in the stage playing some boss exactly yeah that's a great question I mean I don't think I feel like these two can answer that for the beer right now I think KJ and Hero can answer that well I don't know what to say about that what do

you guys think I don't know I go against every day you know this man is strong right I'm talking about like you have the basketball here like you can just do a thing so I know the future kind of is really fine just the over on shake it's yeah and he got the grip right he doesn't give up on the playing like you said it's gonna go in there and watch the film just in the other day here if you have a spot on the ground all the way there's something like a coach man is that like a coach chip Kelly's in for exchange your mind about maybe like the idea of tack over his guard because obviously his offensive predilectors were like yeah the offensive line play room game has you been a part of you settling in the ground that's um I was I want to say maybe I don't know but I mean when I when I first heard he got the job I was really excited because I'm one of those guys is the tempo I can run with the tempo you know I mean I'm

I've been playing basketball all my seven football and I feel like just the fast pace often so we're running really fits the guys we have right now I'm really excited for that I know you can throw a football 65 guys but can you kick a football 75 years and wake up mister no i probably question Lincoln what's your question how is your uh your roommate he's a blessing man I can't complain he's a great guy his name's linking keen hoes oh he's cleaner I think we're both really clean that's why we kind of picked each other's roommates because we're very clean we don't like our rooms really messy well it's true though it's a truth they're both pretty clean so Luke are you still a cross-training at tackle some or if you've just been all guard this prank oh so far I've been all guard um I really don't know like I said I'm taking it practice by practice I could end up being back attack like that not but you know I'm just really focused in on this past practice is the next one you know you put on a lot of things you know you put on a lot of things

yeah oh that mean a lot um you know you put a lot of work in to play here it's been a dream just from being in the Ohio kid is from a high-o'kid's perspective it's I mean that's the biggest switch possible out if I would say that's that'd be pretty cool what was it like to slots here at first games getting on the field for the first time it didn't like this can be a weird answer but it feel like I was playing a game yet if that makes sense I hit I was pretty locked in I felt like just no anxiousness no stress and nothing really I just went in that first game was like shoot out here now it's time to roll you know you didn't really hit me I was like it didn't even hit me I felt like no mom was like what'd you feel there and if like getting out there in the end I was just like honestly I don't know I felt less nervous I didn't ice go and I'd make some no sense um a lot I mean I'm learning from Josh and Austin I think prior to one of my biggest role models here is my bigger big brother when I first came in I'm up to dear okay yeah no yeah yeah

so yeah padean Austin those are my guys man I mean even miles to I mean all three of them that's those are my roommates and they're progressing every day as well and I'm I'm excited to see where they where they can get to I'm excited to plan and feel with them oh yeah you know it's been really helpful you know just keep in my mind just settled and straightforward on the next play it's a great question um like I said I mean the I just need to take consistent in my work I think that's the biggest thing for me is just ain't consistent worry about the next one so you got it from the guy you were in the play yeah wow that's weird yeah that's mean I guess they didn't want to get my nerves up but like I was ready I mean I did I took most of the ones that solved camping I mean I was already I was pretty much it yeah I wasn't really nervous start the game yeah what was his advice do yeah he said you got it you mean you're going against tylie and Kyle every day in practice I mean it's not different almost different are you now

both you intended it two starts end of it as a as a player you know having having that under your belt um me I'm more confident I know what's going on I can see like I can see what's going on with the defense I know what's going on I know what's coming I mean I understand the games a lot better than what it was like yeah yeah yeah we get out early it's get the defense change in place they're like changing their defense you start fast I mean they're trying to get the calling in play but you start faster I'm not gonna back you but touch a lot of touch ups yeah of course they isn't pretty much said those you deserve to play man you know some warm up fast what were you expect this week um wherever they need me if it's left right wherever I think it go in I go in and go talk to you in front of me I like playing tackle um took me back to high school days but I should back in high school was really random ball up really into impasses but it was fun

changes got my made my feet better I would say how confident you feel like you could play there they they want me there I guess I'll play there I mean they need me they need me also in the illness that swept through the office of line room a lot of times coaches and players have said that that was still relying for the groom you know getting you experience among others what was that like for you and double dipping playing some tag with playing some guard the same practice it was based like a group effort like for me you know we had guys out we just had to go pack practice um all five guys there's wherever they were playing we just got to go you know how much of that accelerate your development like that time with the ones you actually they really said it did um I was jumped in there I didn't really know so we like one or two practices practices but like after those I was like you're out of gift you know my confidence grew um yeah it seemed like there was sort of a settling in practice

process for you and the Akron game maybe play got better if the game went on it and really too especially in the ground game things seem to take on but what was there a moment when it clicked on the field for you like was there nerves and then a time of settling in I guess how take me through kind of that first game mentally yeah um first game obviously you can have nerves for your first time starter but then like after the first couple plays meaning you have nerves naturally that's first couple play that was good I was rolling also there's a weird you first time striker player I was saying it was also the first start yeah um you yeah it's but like I prepared well um and camp and practice all week and I was I was ready um yeah I have two multi-year starters I did a lot I mean I could ask them hey what we got here but I was prepared well I mean I was telling Jimmy and says like I would play our blocks

happy emotional side of it what it's just that's a guy from Ohio what does it mean to start a game it was always my dream to come here and play and start and having that like me I just like keep going keep building those days and go games and keep building like what a much younger Austin no I don't think even I told myself even committing I wouldn't believe that now I have a couple of starts yeah awesome has this happened faster than you you know I knew that year two I was gonna see you some playing time now starting week one year two I didn't see that but like I was ready in spring ball like I knew I was gonna I was gonna play some something but so what does it mean to you to it's not only get the opportunities to play but like you play well enough now and coaching staff trust you they get the book out there whatever

the situation that's really so early on the year two I guess it shows like my preparation my hard work and just everything I put into this and I just finally showing up on a field there a moment the top season in the end of the spring and you can't just kind of realize that you could play at this high level with the ones you know if you need to yeah the definitely was in training camp means blocking highly can tie every day like it feels it feels a lot of confidence and do it well and not like getting balled or anything so hero in Jason Moore and Taiwan all those guys mean pretty much anyone on the deepened line future that's all the time so and came back as well so yeah he put a lot of knowledge more collected how about the ability and the great little on how much can he help you he helped me a lot and I'm proud that he's our starting center

not someone else's but I mean he's like the captain of a line he's another voice on the line with guys like Josh Fryer and Josh Simmons Donnie Tiger that means another voice and that a captain out there what ways of having that I'm with this much experience help during the game in the middle of the line I mean a lot he can tell you like before the play was going on and like how to block someone like what you need to do and like that's a lot I'm sure you're talking about how calm he is how much does that benefit of you have a guy who's kind of been there and seen it makes us more calm like especially me and Tay does our first start so like we were up here with with Seth like he brought us down and we were like fine like our emotions weren't high we settled in is that like something he tells you is that something you pick up on by how he's acting how do you kind of mean sense what he's trying to do by how he's acting and what I mean him when we're on the side

of him both Josh Donnie like he was telling us like a cool like we got it but it's pretty much like everyone oh cool group how much do that as a first time starter how much did the end that mean a lot that was my first time ever using high pads we didn't use the high pads in high school but I mean you can say like try to remember the defense you can just come on a sideline bring up we'll play to help them really hard probably the first or second you know but after the I thought we say oh and seven great Austin thank you very much it seems like training part is important but it's not the whole thing they're getting bigger and stronger it's like the culture part of the how much of a fact really is that it's also it's a lot and I mean it's I feel like you can't be able to transform your body like I like I have or like people here come and do that without having that mentality part with it it's like we we always talk about competitions here and our

our culture is fight so we're always here to compete and I feel like that is just that's what gets you in this mindset when you talk about that transformation you just give us a little sense maybe with numbers or body fat or like what do you do in the weight group how big is that transformation that feel I don't have really specific numbers but I just like it's more just like I can just I feel like feeling when I'm playing like I remember how I felt to play when I just got here and now I know how how it feels to play like like like just today like it feels physically different on my body it's like it's just it's I'm getting used to it that makes sense I can't imagine feeling like that. um Padilla also said about you that you are just a completely different guy from last year we're here to work this year so let's get it done. Yeah. So you're here. Do you feel like you weren't at that place mentally? I think I was but I think I had some uh I would say like kind of like confidence issues like

I was just but you know I mean I work past it and uh I know I can I know who I am and I know I can be here so if you have confidence issues how do you get through is it yourself as teammates there's someone in your family that makes you believe that you can do it? um I know I can do it it's not like that's those are those are all it's on the past now did the past of play time in a very obvious opportunity guys had the stuff up to be able to be on the business that helped you get over that confidence issue there because it's now a difference in your opportunity. So kind of it's just like um just I mean it's just just being here like I feel like being here every day working with the guys every day it's just like you know you become this person that you might not have like you might not have like felt like you were before that but like coming here working every day

stacking these days like like you know I mean I just feel like I I realized who I am and I know what I can do now. Well I want to maybe I'm gonna have to do this role but are you? This is a second type of like convince yourself that you actually belong here and you can I knew I knew I could play here I mean it's just it was like the like I just I don't know how to explain I just like I've always known I could play here it's just I'm just like let's go like I'm ready like I'm ready to attack. What are guys to do to help you to figure that out? First shot I think KJ was a big influence tie Hamilton and tie league they all they all helped me a bunch last year kind of just pushing through you know. All right well plan as much so I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt so I can know bring younger guys with me because I've been through. One of those younger guys we're seeing it like the first time What have you seen from well because

Uh what is a workhorse he he goes stay quiet you go work hard and that's all I love about him he focuses he don't really talk much he's going to get a job done do a job right really has any mistakes uh a national championship I ring when all the games we don't want to lose anything Uh we got a mindset that we can't be beat and we just gotta go show him Seems like you guys expect the national championship every year this year even more so You guys have all come back for this you guys have all decided like that Because that is to be feeling different or is there not really any difference it's just the same word I was definitely a difference everyone working harder um we noticed our last run Like we most of us don't have any years after this So we got to go go bigger going home then we're not trying to go home Finish big we know what you guys think of Michigan but When you look at what they did they won the national championship and you guys Took them down to the final minute right you know what I mean?

I mean you You were right there something goes a little different you guys could have been one that came against them Does that tell you anything about like that? Hey you guys want to win a national championship But You played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year like you're that close So I'm saying uh we just like work harder. That's that's kind of coach makes uh saying you know nobody cares Just work harder like those no one played Georgia is the same thing Yeah last last play you know they went on the win in 90 so We just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine. How frustrating is that you're that close The last two national title Uh of course as you know it's frustrating but you can't change the outcome You can't really dwell on uh dwell on it. You just gotta you know come back and work harder do things Better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change Is that as you get older you kind of learn and I thought I was working harder than you always find out there's a little more Yeah, definitely. I mean that's how that's what growing up is basically in college I thought freshman year I was working as hard as I could but not look back at it

I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now. So just to learn anything Uh 80 85 I mean I can it's all on me. I just I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny, but I mean it's all on me. I just gotta run harder I About the ideas I think I think we I definitely can last I was just you know We got to get the young guys to come along with us. We can't play 50 snaps of game. That's just too much on our bodies Just Everybody like online D line. We got to get those younger guys to play you know Did that pieces on the D line and all line and everywhere else so we can last that

Ah, yeah, I did unless we were like winning by like a lot I thought like there are no moments you know I can go sit down or something But we're playing them big games like you know Notre Dame too or North those kind of games. I of course I want to be because I know I can contribute and And I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I get the job Oh, yeah, definitely came back as a came back to animal y'all you haven't really seen it yet But in practice he shows all the time. He's just He's just he's growing right now. He has to work at the he just has to get you know in the playbook and things like that You guys are about the exact same size Listen you're both listen six three you're three twenty seven. He's three twenty six Yeah, I kind of look at him like my my junior but you know, came in he's gonna be a great player He's got to develop more and getting to play Yeah, definitely we got to be leaders um, like I say we got to have them play this year

We can't just play all the snaps they got to get in there and get some work And we got to get them right during the all season so they can play And I just played and want to like contribute like make plays tackles sex Yeah, they definitely some big dudes um, and they all work hard I've only seen much of something day two But throughout the workouts they've been working hard, you know, they they're determined And it looks like they're ready to work to make For this dude I think that is definitely I think if you look at the last

Couple national championship winners are like team on North. They didn't know they got too good Detackled to athletic detackles look at Georgia to athletic detackles I think that's definitely need if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams Really if you think about this, they won't be defined by the defense with actors like What's Georgia Jordan Davis and Jim Carter? Let's Michigan. It's Chris Jenkins You understand But I feel like some time I don't know it's our people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to I think so I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freakiest detackles Yeah, like in the combine just now you see in like those guys they're moving four to four seven eights and things like that So we'll see and when you think it when you think about those freakish How do you think you fit into that Old of that kind of player you watch that and say yeah, that's me Yeah, definitely. I think I'm top-notch when it comes to detackles But I don't want to you know get a big head, but you know watch the come on. I watch it these do the drills. I have tape here

You're like looking like my film. So I think I'm You're going I don't remember how many I mean as many as I can have I think I have more than that But I think they're counting I think they're counting some of them and It's some of them where I like just missed it. So but I think we work on Joe's matching the hand I think that's goes big and uh What we do is a D line, you know, just affecting the quarterback is Anyway, you can it's just great for the defense, you know, just that little thing covered is I you know, you might throw it A little bit to the left to our players More Here because there are a few guys that I've seen

I think I just have like a like a eye for the ball kind of I kind of just look at the quarterback and just I see him like load up I just try to get in his ways and sometimes he's throws it to me I mean they get frustrated by you know, we're team, you know, we're just good Watch a lot of a lot of different backsman and just learn and grow for them Uh I don't really have a top three, but I'll give you I'll give you one. I would say Sae Kwan Gibbs and I Like McCaffrey auto he was injured this year. I like McCaffrey Best back in this draft I lead out of the yard that's y'all that's y'all decision Playing with Howard when I'm going to remember most Uh We're Howard man. He's just such a great lead such a great leader man. It's just like

In moments where you know usually a lot of players they fold man He was just always calm and relaxed man. He just the leader that he was man. That's one thing. I'm gonna remember about him Yeah, he's shoe He's gonna be really good man. He's um Coastal like I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia Just that one two punch with them both as well. They're gonna be really good backs And so James people's man. He's smart the way that he goes about his business man He's mature and so man. He's growing you know just as a as a person in as a player and so man Yeah, definitely Ohio State, you know that running back room is in great hands Yeah Coach coach hard line man. He's full of energy man and um he's creative as well You know, I'm just learning from him as well. You know, I'm trying to run more outside the backfield Was being able to learn from coach hard line and so he's definitely creative at what he's he does

And he brings a lot of energy to the team as well. And so I think they'll do really good Um just intensity man and since he got the playoffs Every game and it's like the intensity got you know higher and higher and so um, you know being a but I know in the lead It's it's the same thing even if it's not the playoffs Just every every game and intensity it keeps getting higher and higher and so yeah, you just I know you got to bring it You know each and every day and come in and work just like Ohio State You know, I definitely feel like Ohio State they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that You know, I just remember even before going through this process how I'll talk to a lot of players Before then and they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them, you know for the NFL and so yeah Yeah Yeah, I know I took a couple days off after the um National Championship and then

Shoot right after that. I'm writing writing sample Florida and I'm right to it and so um Yeah, I think while trained I trained at your birth performance. Um, I think it's called the house of athlete or the compound now Um, they did they did a good job, man. They're just bringing us in and the the way they went about training us man They were they did a really good job The bucking near know I haven't Temple temple. It's a nice. It's a nice city man. Really nice Uh, the 40 to broad and avert Yeah Uh, it's really all about technique and then it's about mindset as well And so um, I say you know, it's for the love of my brother. It's for the love of will highway It's for the love of the receiver. So I got on the perimeter just making sure you know, um, first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked And I I told will I think it was before the first game. I was like I got your brother is

I said man, I'm not gonna let you get hit, you know, um, and so um, I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack I'm not sure that um, but I know if I did I haven't given up too many and so man It's for the love of my brothers though, man making sure that the ball getting their hands You know the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed In my game uh, you can't really work on this, you know, in all season I feel like it's more so you know, you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run You know, maybe uh, it's really just continuing run through tackles and so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my game You know, I want to continue to get better at I feel like I did a good job of that my senior and so I just want to continue to build on that Yes, I did yes, I did Uh, I did me with um new Orleans as well um, I never got that comparison actually um, I know I have a comrade sure

Yeah, man, I have a comrade great great back man um just what he does and those 101 matchups he's dangerous man He's so smooth. He's so smooth as well. I'm not gonna lie he smooth Yeah um Inside zone from stack being able to hit that thing downhill and I say the next one is probably Just an option route out of the backfield, you know, and man and man coverage. You're getting on that linebacker and so I Yeah, I say the man the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself man and the way that man um, he approaches the game He comes in with the monster, you know, he's gonna work every single week, you know, every practice, you know He's working hard, you know, um even shoot it. I don't know every good I think he had a every game was a good game for him

And so but still man He always has the mentality to mindset that you know, he's gonna come in each and every day He's gonna continue to work and get better man, and so he's definitely man. He's gonna be a special player, man He really is Man, a lot of ups and downs man, it's just How you respond to adversity and I feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better Is this um now have something to lean on now, you know, I remember before I met him, you know, going through those adversity I had nothing to run to you know, you can run to people, but they still can't it's not too much They can't truly help you, you know, I feel like you know, I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ And so being able to lean on him, you know, he gives you in those moments where it's tough, you know, where it's low and um When you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about He gives you he gives you that peace and comfort, you know

Even in those moments man, we're so hard that you can't you can't explain. It's like man I'm going through this, but like how am I still filled with this internal joy? You know, how do I have so much peace in this situation? And so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you and so Um Those guys have such a great mentality man. I might just really love their mentality especially um Q as well, you know, I talked about Will Howard his leadership, but Quincham mentality man That boy just yeah that boy just gifted, you know, you see, you know, sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like You know, he should have a negative five yards And then as soon as you know it, you know, he that running through somebody still forming somebody and she was just a gang of ten and so I

Shoot I think Yeah, man, I think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest. He's just gifted You know, he's he's a big back. You know, he's strong and so um, you know, he's he's able to do he's able to do those things And so yeah, man, it's definitely you know, I look at his game and I want to you know at the same time I want to learn from Quincham, you know, I want to look at this game is like man Where where can I get better at as well? You know, that's the type of player I am. I'm always looking to get better man I'm always looking to grow as a player Julian San, oh yeah, he's gonna be a great but he's gonna be a great quarterback man He's so so accurate and so um, he's definitely man. I know coach day is definitely going to get him right Just you know, um, container grow as a leader container grow as a player and so he's going to be really good for high state I He's there. I know just the quarterback position. Um, I feel like you know the quarterbacks in the past They've they've definitely been vocal and so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um Ask Julian San as well. It's to be that vocal leader and lead the um and lead the offense and lead the team

Thanks Shoot man, he has he has a bill like JK Dobbins and um, I kind of see them, you know, similar similarities in their game as well And I know JK Dobbins he was a great running back. Um, I feel like he's not talked about his none Um, a lot but man his career here you watch his highlights is is great. I remember um Before I recruit before I committed here. I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights like every Every one of his years here like four or five times and so man he was such a great back And um, I feel like you know when I see JK Dobbins when I see um James people I see similarities to both of their games I feel like they play the same and so appreciate you all y'all You

You You

You All I got coming in last round to the world so I just attack every day really the same way It's taking advantage very rare Oh, I think I got a lot bigger. I'm like 240 you know like 240 for right now last year. I played it like 236 to 37 I just feel like I'm like Like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking all blocks better. It's big. Yeah You see don't think uh, maybe that's not the correct term but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did

Even last year and you played quite a bit last year and stuff What do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more? Just gotta get ready to just play there. He more snaps. So But are you are you how would you describe how you how much you're looking forward to it from an age? Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready for it. My I'm ready for it The Texas opener. It's a rematch And so to say but it's not really two different teams compared to last time y'all played and stuff How's that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the Where an opener of that magnitude? Yeah, we're the opener like that. We've been um we've been emphasizing it a lot We know we got coming so we know we gotta do we look prepared for it Um, I think Riley ready to play right now He advanced freshman like he ended up here in the book. He stood in like he advanced and his measurements was crazy Like he saw like the saw line to What was that process like during last season could you feel yourself

Becoming more and more ready Yeah, cuz that's pretty much what my role was just whenever I was needed I had to step up So I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year When you say ready is it more a physical thing? Is it a mental thing when I say ready? I think it's pretty much like everything physically Mentally mostly I think I'm there Oh Oh I feel like it's uh It's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year, but I kind of go about it the same way like last year. I was intentional with everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing. It's probably a little bit more

And what work? Uh, I say I Skrub my gang I say like when you think of me you think of like a like a bully like a silver bullet I don't really a bullet. I'm always on the ball. That's how I like to play and think No, I ain't got to be my nickname, but Oh, yeah Yeah Oh Think it fit me because I don't know. I just like the defense. I feel like we got like you said we got a lot of freedom and we moving around a lot A lot of the terms is like, you know, I don't know. I don't really not answer that I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on, but it's like

I just like it's deep. I like how it's really deep is I like what you got going on That was it No, I wanted to much sad. I was kind of like happy fun No All right, that's my dog. I'm gonna say yeah kind of missing a little bit, but yeah, I'm happy fun I don't think go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year But maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for That wasn't maybe your national championship you guys Yeah, how much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year? But we'll be in this bigger role and along the summer year Yeah, I do feel like um Yeah, I do feel like I did win a nadilash, but like you said my role wasn't same as how's gonna be this year So yeah, I definitely want to want to go get another one experience that like feeling maybe on the field a lot more place Great. Oh, Bill. Thank you very much

Especially with the way he uses receivers. How do you anticipate your role changing it? How do you view the offense from a receiver perspective specific? Yeah, um, I mean, I think he likes to really push the ball down the field He likes to be balanced. He likes to Give different looks to a difference. You know, we're gonna Not to try to get too much into it, but you know, we're gonna use some motion move some guys around and things of that nature I think for myself I feel comfortable playing any of the positions that is that is asked whether it's the slot the outside positions and unique part about our offenses I don't think necessarily you play the X or the Z because the pit on the formation of the hash you can be the opposite You could be the X, but then you're to the field now you're the Z So you got to really learn the entire concept and know where you're out in the field Which I think makes everybody smarter players because you don't pigeonhole yourself I just play X, you know, I'm only know this position like you get in two minutes. You're the Z now You got to know what to do you may have the clear out router you may have the backside dig like you got to know

What you're doing? So I think he doesn't just say like we're gonna do this offense He's really trying to create an office that hits our personnel really well that that field boundary thing Yeah, that's a thing in college, but it seems like it's more to you to clip is that is that something you're used to seeing another offense? Yeah, definitely. I mean, I think if if I'm on the left hash like technically I'm I'm the X you know, I'm in the boundary, but if we're on the right hash. I'm still on the left side I'm really the Z in the concept because I'm to the field and to the strength of the tide in so um I've been in offenses like is similar like that before and um, you know, I just think he He one thing I think that's really stood out as the compliments of our routes that we have so far Um, I feel like we have a chance to really run similar stems, but there's different routes off those stems and things like that Which I think for receiver like myself who uh You get you know a really good look at DB's and they study your film they study your splits like having routes That look the same, but break off a different

Different angles is extremely important because it feels like you have some versatility in your bag to go out with versus like You got this hit you again. You're backside. You like that's all you got, you know, I mean so um Yeah, he's just been a really good player's person to work with and he's been really communicative with The leaders and how we want this offense to look like in some of the ideas that we may have as well So it's it's been a really uh cool transition You talk about the transitions you've nerd offense in three years probably your fourth and six years. Yeah How do you not kind of build up some barriers? Yeah, man. I gotta do this again. Right um, I think you know human nature is is always um A factor in whatever you do in life But I think I try to make a conscious choice of coming in with a new year mentality each and every year And I think it's easy because we've had so many changes in um, it's been great working with Marcus and jaden and Jeff and Sam all of everybody like it's it's been great with working with all the quarterbacks and um

I just have a mentality and not really being complacent like I try to really focus on the things that I I can come back better at this year and I've been working my my butt off to do that so um, I think the easy thing and when I was younger, you're like dang like you just want that consistency, you know, I mean like you want that um Something you could depend on but like life isn't life isn't always like that so um, um, I've been Re-invigorated because of just the energy that dq brings in so our building each and every day and and the coaches as well Like it's fun competing, you know, I mean and sometimes I could get lost in the grind, but um, I think the reason why you make it here at this level is because You you fall in love with the competition of it and I think the competition breathes the success because That is really where you the iron truly sharpens iron. So you know other guys are going to make plays But when you get excited to go in there and and know that The next day we're going to go right back after the defense. So um

For myself, I'm just looking forward to continue to grow with the quarterbacks that we have I'm in year six now, which is extreme blessing and um leader one of the leaders in our room and I just try to take the bull by the horns with that and so That's really been my focus and You know, I'm excited for another year to us. It's looked like you're being more vocal on the sideline. Yeah help young guys Definitely something you decided this offseason or I think that's been a part of my maturation process as a leader I've always seen myself as somebody that was a A leader by example But From coaches and other teammates. I've had over the years Guys like to hear what I have to say for whatever reason sometimes, you know And I think the biggest thing where I've tried to Figure out where I fit in with my vocal leadership is I never wanted to be like a dictator You know, I mean, I never wanted to tell guys what to do or or be a yellow or things like that Like when I say something I wanted to have power. I wanted to have meaning and I hope You know the guys would feel the same way if they were to ask them that question

Um, because I want to see all these guys win man like it's it's hard to make it in this league and stay in a career And so anyway, I could help the receivers the DB's I'm talking to some alignment Johnny who's who's rehabbing his foot, you know what I mean like everybody has a role and everybody has a different story and path And so if I could share what I've been through my testimony to help them or Do things that kind of slow down the process? I'm gonna try to do that because We need everybody from the rookies to the 10 year vets to to make this thing work. So More so I try to speak to what I what I know and and really those honest conversations that I try to have with guys What they know I'm coming from a good place and I think I'm out of type of guy where I'm just going to talk in at them like if they see something like I could take a coaching point from Luke McCaffrey I could take a coaching point from Dei Ami from jahan from Marcus from anybody, you know like I think that's what makes you a great player when you can really

Be coachable from anybody and not take it from a personal standpoint Hi, I'm good. I'm going back to what you were saying about Clevve and how is he as a teacher in teaching all this? Yeah, I mean, I think he does a really great job of Making things simple first and foremost. He doesn't overcoach and I think that's the trust that he has in our group And his and his coaches are position coaches to Fill in the details. So we'll have an install meeting and It'll be a good amount of time, but then our position coaches will have time and we'll make it specific to that position and so Then we'll come in and have a walkthrough And then after that we'll have another walkthrough and so I don't think there's been a time where I've come out here And I'm kind of worried about what I got you know I mean and when you get into certain offices, there could be so many details where you could be overwhelmed and I think Then it Forces it kind of separates guys in a sense that like one guy may study more than another guy But when you have these these sessions that we have where we're having the installs in the morning

We're having two walkthroughs and then we're coming on the field and doing it like I think you notice a lot of guys are playing a lot faster And more confident because he's keeping it simple But also he's very particular in in what he's expecting but it's not a lot so There's not a pressure of to get it right but at the same time You know is expected of you and and you know you're going to have the tools given to you to be successful out there on the field And this offseason just the totality of change from front office players coaches the turf field Yeah, what what does that been like for you just to see what's going on? It's been fun You know, I think from Mr. Harris and the entire ownership group down to Adam Peters down to DQ down to Jada who we drafted and bringing in Marcus and Jeff and all those guys and Down to leaders we have on our team. I think it was extremely specific on the way they tried to build this thing going into this year First having the right people bringing in leaders bringing in guys who love to compete first thing that DQ said when he came here

Was and his first meeting like if you love to compete this is going to be the place for you I love it, you know, I mean I love bags and and going at it with the DB's every day like the little mundane stuff can seem a little boring But that's I think that was the the Where you make the gains during the offseason where you're really focused on I'm hey like I'm a I'm a give all I got for this day And I'm a get better and then I'm a I'm a learn from the film and come back tomorrow and ready to do it again and he also understands like the the benefits of having breaks like he's given us breaks We've had you know weeks off here another week and compose ourselves But then come back and give it all we got you know what I mean and when you got a coach that understands the Physicality of an entire season where you guys do need breaks by the same time we're going to get after it It makes it fun as a leader because you can take that to your room and be like yo, we got these we got this week You know, I mean that's extremely important But you know, we have this little break coming up Where you're going to get your your mind and your body and your soul right so um Coming into this season. I'm really optimistic. Oh what we can be this year and I think it started with the foundation that

uh the ownership group and the entire staff has built and now it's on myself as a leader to continue to hone that in into the locker room But I think it's great because we have so many great leaders from all across the league who have one and Hey, we got Bobby Wagner in there. You know, I mean I asked a hall of fame or so like You know being able to have kind of guys like that that you can lean on that can sometimes take over that leadership Rollward as a follow on one person. I think it's uh extremely refreshing and knowing that everybody's on the same page and the message is the same Allows you to go out there with confidence and know what's expected of you Terry you seem to spend money of your off seasons Learning about things beyond football. How things what happy? Did you do any of this offseason so far? It's uh Hobbies are increased your knowledge of this the world around you some question um Play a lot of golf As they just keeps my competitive juices flowing um uh Planning the wedding that's going well and uh

Man, I've just been grinding like honestly, you know, I mean, I've been hungry this all season like uh, I started working out you know pretty early and You start to see guys like coming back and it's just fun to like to be here and competing and feeling like everybody's on the same page You know what I mean like and so for me I'm a grind every offseason, but just This one just feels like it's the start of something you know new and special and the foundation of his extremely important and to be a part of that to have a hand in that um You know, it's it's an honor, you know And I put a lot of expectation on myself to come out here and and be the guy that I know I'm capable of and also like taking the next step and being somebody that our quarterbacks that can trust and and believe in so um this all season was pretty simple for me um It was just really about you know working and and and and grinding and getting better He talked about jaden before and so far. I know we haven't seen everything but in terms of his

His arm strength the throws he's making any surprise you so far about the types that is a is a building that regard definitely Uh, I think after the second or third crosser that he threw I started telling receivers like hey you gotta get your head around You know, I mean because again each quarterback throws the ball differently and sees the field differently So sometimes on crossers a lot of quarterbacks may like to see you cross the ball and get into that open zone over there If it's a man flattened off they like to see you get open where him He has a really good anticipation over the middle of the field where he can make those throws and give you a chance to catch and run and He's really accountable too like we had to play today where he felt like he missed me and you know It's not a big deal at all, you know I mean him and I could talk to those things and there's been a play that I've talked to him about I could do a better job But but again like that open that open form of communication from a rookie I think is is very rare and I think it speaks to the confidence he knows who he is But he's also not afraid to say when he's wrong and he knows he needs room to improve But his touch on the debaul is it's is amazing You know, I love getting extra reps with practice after practice with him

We're just catching the topping of a deep ball as big for me, you know I mean I get to track the ball over my shoulder and it's big for him to be able to Get used to dropping the ball in the bucket But he just naturally has an ability to throw the ball He sees the windows really well and now he's just you know continue to get adjusted to the speed in the past rush Well, I think he's these reps that he's getting our unbelievable during 11 on 11 because he's getting the field pain and Allen and DA and Cleveland Farrow like we got some dogs up there who are gonna come after them You know what I mean? And we got some great guys up front who are gonna protect them And so these reps I feel like are even better than just seven on seven seven on seven I think he could do in the sleep to be fair like he throws the ball really well But when you get this 11 on 11 two-minute drill you're putting them in game like situations And I'm looking them in his eye. I'm like we play real ball now like we we we playing you know, I mean and You just see no no Anxiousness in his game and his demeanor which is extremely exciting and and then you know He's extremely lighthearted and he's always smiling So he's joking with lime and D line. He's just cool with everybody and like I said like for a rookie quarterback to come in like that

Where guys are gravitating to him and he's not afraid to be who he is That's dope. I think he has a bright future for himself The tough losses the tough seasons Can weigh on a player. Sure. You're entering the prime of your career. J.A. kind of mentioned it last year All he cares about is winning. He wants to win now Is there a sense of urgency you obviously always want to win? Yeah knowing that you know You're getting to the prime your career like you want to win now. Yeah, I think that's a fair question I think you know you start to evaluate when you I'm in year six and you know how fast it goes and I try not to put the cart before the horse were looking too far ahead by the same time You do want to win you want to be a part of a winning culture and have a chance to win the Super Bowl and the playoffs and all those things Like that's why we we do this personally and I'm just excited with being a part of a organization in a environment where now like everybody's on the same page in the In the message is uniform and it speaks from the top down and

It reflects in the guys that they're bringing in you know All the guys that they brought in are guys who are hungry who are competitors who Not only fighting for spots, but we're going to help us win games and when you're around environment like that like that That makes you excited makes you hopeful and you know You don't know how it's going to turn out until we start playing games, but um the foundation is extremely important And I think this offseason we've really done a great job of building that they have and then when a coach queen guy here building with this team So I feel like we're going to be going into this offseason really Knowing we all got to do individually to become ready for camp, but the met the message is clear to come back to camp ready to compete and And be ready to win Appreciate you guys Yeah Really playing as much so I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt so I can know bring younger guys with me because I've been

Now he's running Uh, well as a workhorse he he go stay quiet. He go work hard. And that's all I love about him He focuses. He don't really talk much. He's going to get a job done do a job right really has any mistakes When all the games we don't want to lose anything We got a mindset that we can't be beat and we just gotta go show it Seems like you guys expect the national championship every year this year even more so you guys have all come back for this I was definitely a difference everyone working harder um we noticed our last run like we most of us don't have any years after this So we got to go go bigger going home and we're not trying to go home Finish big we know what you guys think of Michigan but When you look at what they did they won the national championship and you guys

Took them down to the final minute, right? You know what I mean? I mean you You were right there something goes a little different you guys could have been one that came against them Does that tell you anything about like that? Hey you guys want to win a national championship But You played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year like you're that close So I'm saying uh, we just like work harder. That's that's kind of coach makes of saying you know nobody cares Just work harder like those no one played Georgia is the same thing. Yeah last last play. You know they went on the win in 90 So we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine Of course is you know it's frustrating but you can't change the outcome you can't really do I don't Do it on it. You just gotta you know come back and work harder do things Better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change Is that as you get older you kind of learn? I thought I was working hard to the always find out there's a little more Yeah, definitely. I mean that's how that's what growing up is basically in college

I thought freshman year I was working as hard as I could but now I look back at it I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now. So just to learn anything To be to be your best 80 85 I mean I can it's all on me. I just I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny, but I mean it's all on me. I just got to run harder I think I think we I definitely can lie as I was just you know We got to get the young guys to come along with us. We can't play for the snaps again. That's just too much on our bodies just Everybody's like online D line. We got to get those younger guys to play you know Get that pieces on the D line and the online and everywhere else so we can last that

I don't know if any of us were expected to play that next time. Oh yeah, I did unless we were like winning by like a lot I thought like there are no mom's you know I can go sit down or something But we're playing them big games like you know Notre Dame too or North those kind of games. I of course I want to be because I know I can contribute and I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done Oh, yeah, definitely came back as a came back to animal. Y'all you haven't really seen it yet But in practice he shows all the time. He's just He's just he's growing right now. He has a work. I think he just has to get you know in the playbook things like that You guys are about the exact same size Listen you're both listening six three you're three twenty seven. He's three twenty six Yeah, I kind of look at him like my my junior, but you know, came in he's gonna be a great player He's got to develop more and getting to play So really a lot on you older guy. There's that large group of young guys and then there's the seniors in your back

Is that part of your task for this year to bring those best Yeah, definitely we got to be leaders Um, like I say, we got to have them play this year. We can't just play all the snaps They got to get in there and get some work and we got to get them right Throwing all season so they can play and not just play they want to like contribute like make plays tackles Yeah, they're definitely some big dudes um and they all work hard. I've only seen much of something day two when I'm passing on but Throughout the workouts they've been working hard, you know, they they're determined And it looks like they're ready to work You know right

I think that is definitely I think if you look at the last Couple of not some championship winners are like team of Northe in and they got two good Detackle two athletic detackles look at Georgia two athletic detackles I think that's definitely need if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams What's Georgia's Jordan Davis and Janet Carter? Let's Michigan. It's Chris Jenkins You understand it because you play it, but I feel like some time it I don't know it's about people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to I think so I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freakiest detackles Yeah, like in the combine just now you see in like those guys they're moving four to four seven eights and things like that So Yeah, definitely I think I'm top-notch when it comes to detackles, but I don't want to you know get a big head

But you know watch it come on I watch the views do the drills. I have to see like looking like my my film So I think I'm I mean you're going You have a I mean as many as I can have I think I have more than that But I think he said it I think they didn't count some of them and It's some of them where I like just missed it so but I think we work on drills matching the hand I think that's goes big and What we do is a deal on you know just affecting the quarterback is Anyway, you can is just great for the defense, you know That little thing covered his eye, you know, he might throw it a little bit to the life to our players So it's something that you really really have to work on

There are a few guys that I've seen Like oh that I think I just have like a like a eye for the ball kind of I kind of just look at the quarterback and just I see him like load up I just try to get in his ways and sometimes he just throws it to me I mean they get frustrated by you know we're a team. You know we're just getting better I Should a lot of a lot of different backs man. They just learn to grow for them Uh I don't really have a top three, but I'll give you I'll give you one. I would say Sequan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey auto he was injured this year. I like McCaffrey Who's the best back in this drive best back in this drive I lead out of the yard that's y'all that's y'all decision

Playing with howard when I'm going to remember most Uh We're a Howard man. He's just such a great lead such a great leader man. It's just like in moments where you know Usually a lot of players they fold man. He was just always calm and relaxed man. He just the leader that he was man That's one thing I'm gonna remember about him Yeah, he's Shoot He's gonna be really good man. He's um Coastal I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia Just that one two punch with them both as well. They're gonna be really good backs And so James people's man. He's smart the way that he goes about his business man He's mature and so man. He's growing you know just as a person in as a player and so man. Yeah Definitely oh higher state, you know that running back room is in gray hands You Yeah Coach coach heartline man. He's full of energy man and um he's creative as well

You know, I'm just learning from him as well. You know, I'm trying to run more outside the backfield It was being able to learn from coach heartline and so he's definitely creative at what he's he does And he brings a lot of energy to the team as well. And so I think that'll do really good You Um just intensity man then since he did other playoffs Every game and it's like the intensity got you know higher and higher and so um, you know being Maybe I know in the lead. It's it's the same thing Even if it's not the playoffs just every every game and then since it keeps getting higher and higher So yeah, you just I know you got to bring it you know each and every day and come in and work just like Ohio State You know, I definitely feel like Ohio State they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that You know, I just remember even before going through this process. I'll I'll talk to a lot of players Before then and they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them, you know for the NFL and so yeah

Yeah Yeah, I know I took a couple days off after the um Notch in the championship and then Shoot right after that. I'm right in right in sample Florida and I'm right to it and so um Yeah, I think where I trained I trained that um your morph performance. Um, I think it's called the house of athlete or the compound now Um, they did they did a good job, man. They're just um bringing us in and the way they went about training us man They were they did a really good job The bucket near know I haven't Temple temple, a temple nice. This is nice. It's a nice city man. Really nice Uh, the 40 to broad and avert Yeah Uh, it's really all about technique and then it's about mindset as well And so um, I say you know, it's for the love of my brother. It's for the love of will highway It's for the love of the receiver. So I got on the perimeter just making sure you know, um first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked

And I I told will I think it was before the first game. I was like I got your brother It's uh, I said man. I'm not gonna let you get hit you know um, and so um I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack. I'm not sure that um, but I know if I did I haven't given up too many And so man, it's for the love of my brothers. Don't man making sure that the ball get in their hands You know the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed In my game uh, you can't really work on this, you know, in all season I feel like it's more so you know, you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run You know, maybe uh, it's really just continuing to run through tackles and so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my game I want to continue to get better right I feel like I did a good job of that my senior and so I just want to continue to build on that Yes, I did yes, I did Uh, I did meet with um new Orleans as well um, I never got that comparison actually um, I know I've a comrade

Sure, yeah man. I've a comrade great great back man um just what he does and those 101 matchups he's dangerous man He's so smooth. He's so smooth as well. I'm not gonna lie he smooth Yeah um Inside zone from stack being able to hit that thing downhill and I'll say the next one is probably Just an option route out of the backfield, you know, and man and man coverage. You're getting on that linebacker and so Yeah Yeah, I say the man the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself man in the way that man um, he approaches the game He comes in with the monster, you know, he's gonna work every single week, you know, every practice, you know He's working hard, you know um even shoot. I don't know every good I think he had a every game was a good game for him

And so but still man He always has the mentality to mindset that you know, he's gonna come in each and every day He's gonna continue to work and get better man, and so he's definitely man. He's gonna be a special player man He really is Man a lot of ups and downs man, it's just How you respond to adversity and I feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better Is this um now have something to lean on now, you know, I remember before I met him, you know going through those adversity I had nothing to run to you know, you can run to people, but they still can't it's not too much They can't truly help you, you know, I feel like you know I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ And so being able to lean on him, you know, he gives you in those moments where it's tough, you know where it's low and When you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about He gives you he gives you that peace and comfort, you know

I might just really love their mentality especially um Q as well, you know, I talked about Will Howard his leadership, but Quinch, I'm a mentality man That boy just yeah that boy just gifted, you know, you see you know Sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like you know, he should have negative five yards And as soon as you know it, you know, he that running through somebody stiff arm and somebody and she just again to 10 and so You

Yeah, man, I think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest. He's just gifted You know, he's he's a big back. You know, he's strong and so um, you know, he's he's able to do he's able to do those things And so yeah, man, it's definitely you know, I look at his game and I want to you know at the same time I want to learn from Quinch, you know, I want to look at this game is like man Where where can I get better at as well? You know, that's the type of player I am I'm always looking to get better man. I'm always looking to grow as a player Julian San. Oh, yeah, he's gonna be a great but he's gonna be a great quarterback man He's so so accurate and so um, he's definitely man. I know coach day is definitely going to get him right Just you know, um, container grow as a leader container grow as a player and so he's going to be really good for high state Uh, he's that I know just the quarterback position I feel like you know the quarterbacks in the past they've they've definitely been vocal And so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um ask him Julian San as well It's to be that vocal leader and lead the lead to offense and lead to steam

Shoo man, he has he has a bill like JK Dobbins and um, I kind of see them, you know similar similarities in their game as well and I know JK Dobbins he was a great running back I feel like he's not talked about his none Um a lot but man his career here you watch his highlights is is great. I remember um Before I recruit before I committed here. I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights like every Every um one of his years here like four or five times and so man. He was such a great back And um, I feel like you know when I see JK Dobbins when I see um James people I see similarities to both of their games I feel like they play the same Appreciate you all y'all This

Oh I got coming in last round of the world so I just tacked Eric Dave really the same way It's a very very rare physically different are you weight wise body wise on that from your Oh, I think I got a lot bigger. I'm like 240 you know like 240 for right now last year I played it like 236 to 37. What does it feel like a 244 or a belly? You feel like almost a different Machine out there. Yeah, like what does it feel like be running around out there like you are With more uh more back. I just feel like I'm like like Like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking all blocks better. It's big. No Is it daunting? Uh, maybe that's not the correct term, but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did Even last year and you played quite a bit last year and stuff What do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more? I Just got to get ready to just play 30 more snaps. So But are you are you how would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an 8th end?

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready for it. My I'm ready for it. I think it's open. It's a rematch But it's not really two different teams Compared to the last time you all played and stuff How has that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the where an opener of that magnitude? Yeah, with an opener like that we've been um with the emphasizing in a lot of we know we got coming so we know we got to do we've been prepared for it Um, I think Riley ready to play right now. He he advanced freshman like he ended he in the book He studied in like he advanced and his measurements crazy like he saw like the saw line to him Said you're ready What was that process like during last season? Could you feel yourself Becoming more and more ready Yeah, because that's pretty much what my role was just whenever I was needed I had to step up So I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year when you say ready Is it more a physical thing? Is it a mental thing when I say ready? I think it's pretty much like everything physically

Mentally mostly I think I'm there Is that Oh I feel like it's uh It's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year, but I kind of go about it the same way like last year. I was attention over everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing. It's probably a little bit more And what word? I say Scrub like now I say like when you think of me you would think of like a like a bullet like a silver bullet I don't really a bullet. I'm always on the ball. That's how I like to play and think

Like what I think I don't know I just like the defense. I feel like we got like you said we got a lot of freedom and we moving around a lot A lot of the times is like no, I don't know. I don't really not answer that I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on, but it's like I just like his defense. I like how the truth is I like what you got going on Uh Now I wanted to much sad. I was kind of like happy for you Yeah, that's what you want No, that's my dog. I'm gonna say yeah kind of missing a little bit, but yeah, I'm happy for you

I don't think go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year But maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for That wasn't maybe your national championship you guys will win your own How much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year? Will be in this bigger role and Yeah, I do feel like um Yeah, I do feel like I did win a nattie last year, but like you said my role wasn't same as how's gonna be this year So yeah, I definitely want to want to go get another one experience that like feeling maybe on the field a lot more place Well, thank you very much Kind of have a lot of meters on the D line at the D in position so we kind of all kind of just kind of tough each other You know Um, we love it. We're all competitive people we all love to fish each other

And I feel like the springing the best side of all is like we're all just Kind of bouncing off each other and see what one person does and they kind of build it into our toolbox And we all kind of just kind of build one great thing And The day of approaching that idea and coach So I definitely did it in high school. I was pulled back and a little bit of tidan So I feel like they kind of saw what I could do there and coach Wilson Honestly, you love watching it too before you left and uh Feel like you playing that seed and coach day's head and coach day kind of just went for it and Try to do the best I could to do it. Is that continuing now? New playbook I did not know you haven't got that far Um, I like to think myself as a football player. I can really play any position on the field you need me to just give me a Week or two to learn it and kind of perfect it and try to do my best for you. Hey Jack. You're the same thing. Oh, yeah

Graphically that's why Can you just talking to coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations and sort of sought you and Got out to have some conversations after JT and Jack decided to come back We're gonna win into those for your perspective and how did that help you maybe get the right mindset? Um definitely kind of seeing it all the way through if you like People kind of just see what happened and they don't know everything that goes into it How long the season is now? What you got to do to prepare for and what they happen in all that time from here to to then So uh, I feel like we definitely just coached in me kind of connected Just talks man-to-man and uh, he kind of just said it straight to me and I feel like We kind of both Making each other better every day. We got the four best dns five best dns honestly College football and we're gonna be one of the best d-lines in football Um, I feel like I've checked in big steps in my roles of just being responsible and being more of a leader and

Kind of stepping up and taking a step to kind of get out there more on the team We kind of bring people in and uh, I feel like we're kind of helping out more I mean, it sounds bizarre, but I mean the season goes by so fast already So when you're kind of like week 10 and you're like wow starting week 10 So now it's kind of getting more time to kind of enjoy it kind of save it because Spend on your powder for the first uh, first month of the year right there is Not pace yourself. Yeah, I mean there's a mindset Yeah, definitely definitely gonna have to have the mental stability to handle all those weeks and all those practice How much is Larry talked to you guys around the big last question right here 2016 4 and a bell two five two months and all in so much I mean he doesn't have to talk about it. We know about it. You see it in every day We watch the film we see them all working together. We know what it could be. We know we could become So we know we we're right at the same at the right place at the right time and god wanted us to be here

And he knew we wanted us all to come together and kind of play together and be able to bounce off and Just perfect our craft together and I feel like we all are just great individuals and we come together Great plan as much so I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt So I can know bring younger guys with me because I think I don't know why I should real forgot about it because he was hurt Now he's running you know almost a second man up behind you Ty what have you seen Well as a workhorse he he goes stay quiet you know work hard and that's what I love about him Focus is he don't really talk much. He's going to get the job done do a job right really has any mistakes What would be a successful season? A national championship I ring When all the games we want to lose anything We got a mindset that we can't be beat. We just gotta go show it

Seems like you guys expect the national championship This year even more so you guys have all come back for this you guys have all decided It's definitely a difference everyone working harder. Um, we noticed our last run I mean most of us don't have any years after this So we got to go go bigger. Go home then we're not trying to go home Finish big Right You were right there something goes a little different you guys could have been one that game against them Does that tell you anything about like that? Hey you guys want to win a national championship But You played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year like you're that close So I'm saying uh, we just like work harder. That's that's kind of coach makes of saying you know nobody cares Just work harder like those know one plate Georgia is the same thing Last last play you know they went on the win in 90 so

We just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine. How frustrating is that you're that close The last two national title Uh, of course is you know, it's frustrating, but you can't change the outcome. You can't really dwell on Dweller on it. You just gotta you know come back and work harder do things Better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change Is that as you get older you kind of learn? I thought that was working hard But then you always find out there's a little more Yeah, definitely. I mean, that's how that's what growing up is basically in college I thought freshman year I was working as hard as I could but now I look back at it I really wasn't working hard at all Compared to what I'm doing now, so just to learn anything Uh 80 85 I mean I can it's all on me. I just I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny, but I mean, it's all on me. I just got to run harder

I I think I think we I definitely can last. I was just you know, we got to get the young guys to come along with us We can't play 50 stamps again. That's just too much on our bodies Just Everybody like online D line. We got to get those younger guys to play and you know get that pieces on the D line and I know a lot and everywhere else so we can last that long Ah, yeah, I did unless we were like winning by like a lot Uh, I thought like there are no moments you know, I can go sit down or something But we're playing them big games like you know, Notre Dame too, and those kind of games I of course I want to be because I know I can contribute and I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job then Oh, yeah, definitely. K-Mac is a K-Mac's animal. Y'all you haven't really seen it yet, but in practice he shows all the time. He's just

He's just he's growing right now. He has to work. I think he just has to get you know in the playbook and things like that You guys are about the exact same size Listen, you're both listening six three three twenty seven. He's three twenty six Yeah, I kind of look at him like my my junior, but you know, K-Mac he's gonna be a great player He's got to develop more and getting to play Yeah, definitely we got to be leaders um, like I say, we got to have them play this year We can't just play all the snaps. They got to get in there and get some work And we got to get them right Burned all season so they can play and I just play they want to like contribute like make plays tackles sex It seems like these guys get figures Each one first class Those guys kind of does kind of while you're in the cell Yeah, they're definitely some big dudes um, and they all work hard. I've only seen much of some day too

When I'm passing on but throughout the workouts they've been working hard, you know, they they're determined And it looks like they're ready to work with me Defensive tackles who can eat up space Is that I'm trying to maybe do great defense to have guys like you that have some fault, but Also a great team. I think that is definitely I think if you look at the last Couple nice and much emissary winners Like seem on North. They didn't know they got two good Detackle two athletic detackles look at Georgia two athletic detackles I think that's definitely needed if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams Think about this they won't define by the defense What's Georgia's Jordan Davis and Janet Carter? Let's miss again. It's Chris Jenkins

You understand it because you play it, but I feel like some time I don't know are people realizing how important defense tackles are a little bit more than they used to I think so I think they're starting to develop to develop more and more of these like freakiest detackles Like in the combine just now you seeing like those guys they're moving We're in a 478 and things like that so We'll see and when you think it when you think about this freakish Oh, yeah, definitely I think I'm top-notch when it comes to detackles, but I don't want to you know get a big head But you know watch it come on. I watch it do the drills. I have to see you like look at my film. So I think I'm up there Do you become like a artist You're going

I mean as many as I can have I think I have more than that, but I think I think they didn't count some of them and It's some of them where I like just missed it. So but I think we work on Joe's matching the hand I think that's goes big and We do as a deal on you know just affecting the quarterback is Anyway, you can it's just great for the defense, you know That little thing covering his eye, you know, he might throw it a little bit to the left to our player You I think I just have like a like a eye for the ball kind of I kind of just look at the quarterback and just I see him like load up I just try to get in his ways and sometimes he just throws it to me I mean they get frustrated by you know we're team. You know we're just getting back

I Should a lot of a lot of different backs man. They just learn to grow for them Uh I don't really have a top three, but I'll give you I'll give you one. I would say Sequoan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey auto he was injured this year. I like McCaffrey Who's the best back in this draft? I lead out of the yard. That's y'all that's y'all decision Playing with howard when I'm going to remember most Uh We're a Howard man. He just such a great lead such a great leader man. It's just like in moments where you know Usually a lot of players they fold man. He was just always calm and relaxed man. He Just the leader that he was man. That's one thing I'm gonna remember about him Yeah, he's Shoot He's gonna be really good man. He's um

Coastal I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia Just that one two punch with them both as well. They're gonna be really good backs And so James people's man. He's smart the way that he goes about his business man He's mature and so man. He's growing you know just as a as a person and as a player and so man Yeah, definitely Ohio State, you know that running back room is in gray hands You Yeah, um Coach hard line man. He's full of energy man and um he's creative as well You know, I'm just learning from him as well. You know, um trying to run more outside the backfield It was being able to learn from um coach hard line and so he's definitely creative at what he's he does And he brings a lot of energy to the team as well. And so I think that'd do really good Just the intensity man then since the other playoffs um every game and it's like the intensity got you know Higher and higher and so um, you know being able I know in the lead. It's it's the same thing

Even if it's not the playoffs just every every game and intensity it keeps getting higher and higher So yeah, you just I know you got to bring it you know each and every day and come in and work just like Ohio State You know, I definitely feel like Ohio State they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that You know, I just remember even before going through this process. I'll I'll talk to a lot of players um before then And they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them, you know for the NFL and so yeah Yeah Yeah, I know I took a couple days off after the um National championship and then Shoot right after that. I'm writing writing sample Florida and I'm right to it and so um Yeah, I think while trained I trained at um your morph performance. Um, I think it's called the house of athlete or the compound now Um, they did they did a good job, man I'm just bringing us in and the the way they went about training us man. They were they did a really good job The bucket nearest know I haven't

Temple a temple nice. This is nice. It's a nice city man. Really nice Uh, the 40 to broaden avert Yeah Yeah, no, man. Uh, it's really all about technique and then it's about mindset as well And so um, I say you know, it's for the love of my brother. It's for the love of will highway It's for the love of the receivers who I got on the perimeter just making sure you know, um first of all my quarterback doesn't get sacked And I I told will I think it was before the first game. I was like I got your brother It's uh, I said man, I'm not gonna let you get hit, you know, um, and so um, I don't know if I don't know if I gave up a sack I'm not sure that um, but I know if I did I haven't given up too many and so man It's for the love of my brothers, though man making sure that the ball get in their hands You know the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed

In my game uh, you can't really work on this, you know, in all season I feel like it's more so you know, you got to put the pads on you got to go through some inside run You know, maybe uh, it's really just continuing to run through tackles and so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my game You know, I want to continue to get better at I feel like I did a good job of that my senior and so I just want to continue to build on that Yes, I did yes, I did Uh, I did me with um new Orleans as well um, I never got that comparison actually um, I know I'm a comrade sure Yeah, man, I would come here great great back man Just what he does knows 101 matchups he's dangerous man and he's so smooth. He's so smooth as well. I'm not gonna lie. He's smooth Yeah Inside zone from stack being able to hit that thing downhill and I say the next one is probably

Just an option route out of the backfield, you know, and man and man coverage you're getting on that linebacker and so He Yeah, I say to man the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself man and the way that man um, he approaches the game He comes in with the monster, you know, he's gonna work every single week, you know, every practice, you know, he's working hard You know, um even shoot. I don't know every good I think he had a every game was a good game for him man and so but still man He always has the mentality to mindset that you know, he's gonna come in each and every day He's gonna continue to work and get better man, and so he's definitely man. He's gonna be a special player man. He really is Man, a lot of ups and downs man. It's just How you respond to adversity and I feel like that's something that God is definitely helped me to do better is this um

I have something to lean on now, you know, I remember before I met him, you know, going through those adversity I had nothing to run to, you know, you can run to people, but they still can't it's not too much They can't truly help you, you know, I feel like you know I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ And so on being able to lean on him, you know, he gives you in those moments where it's tough, you know, where it's low and um When you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about um, he gives you he gives you that peace and comfort, you know Even in those moments man, we're so hard that you can't you can't explain. It's like man. I'm going through this But like how am I still filled with this internal joy? You know, how do I have so much peace in this situation? And so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you and so Um Um Manate those guys have such a great mentality man. I might just really love their mentality especially um

Q as well, you know, I talked about will Howard his leadership, but Quinch on mentality man um That boy just yeah that boy just gifted, you know, you see you know sometime he put in a situation where he looked like you know He should have a negative five yards and as soon as you know it, you know, he that running through somebody step on him Somebody and shoot it's a game to 10 it's uh Uh um shoot I think Yeah, man, I think it's just like he's just gifted man to be honest. He's just gifted, you know, he's he's a big back You know, he's strong and so um, you know, he's he's able to do he's able to do those things and so um Yeah, man, it's definitely you know, I look at his game and I want to you know the same time I want to learn from Quinch on you know, I want to look at this game is like man Where where can I get better at as well, you know, that's the type of player I am. I'm always looking to get better man I'm always looking to grow as a player Julian San, oh yeah, he's gonna be a great but he's gonna be a great quarterback man He's so so accurate and so um, he's definitely man. I know coach dad's definitely going to get him right just you know

Continuing to grow as a leader continuing to grow as a player and so he's going to be really good for high state Uh He's I know just the quarterback position um, I feel like you know the quarterbacks in the past they've they've definitely been vocal And so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to um ask him Julian San as well It's to be that vocal leader and lead the um and lead the offense and lead the team Shoot man, he has he has a build like JK Dobbins and um, I kind of see them, you know similar similarities in their game as well And I know JK Dobbins he was a great running back. Um, I feel like he's not talked about is no um a lot But man his career here you watch his highlights is is great. I remember um Before I recruit before I committed here. I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights like every Every um one of his years here like four or five times and so man He was such a great back and um, I feel like you know when I see JK Dobbins when I see um James people

I see similarities to both of their games. I feel like they play the same What's up? Appreciate you all. Yeah, I'll be going You

You You

You All I got coming in last round. I knew we're all so I just tacked every day really the same way It's been very rough Oh, I think I got a lot bigger. I'm like 240 you know like 244 right now last year. I played it like 236 to 137 I just feel like I'm like Like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking all blocks better. It's bigger Is it don't think uh, maybe that's not the correct term but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did Last year and you played quite a bit last year and stuff What do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more? This is gotta get ready to just play

There are even more snacks, so Are you how would you describe how you how much you're looking forward to it from an age standpoint? Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready for it. My I'm ready for it It's a rematch So it's not really two different teams Compared to the ones time y'all played and stuff How's that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the Where an opener of that magnitude? Yeah, we're the opener like that we've been um, we've been emphasizing it a lot We know we got coming so we know we gotta do we've been prepared for it Um, I think Riley ready to play right now. He he advanced freshman like he ended here in the book He stood in like he advanced and his measurements was crazy like he saw like saw like to What was that process like during last season? Could you feel yourself The coming more and more ready So whatever the team needed Yeah, because that's pretty much what my role was just whenever I was needed I had to step up so I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year

When you say ready is it more a physical thing? Is it a mental thing when I say ready? I think it's pretty much like everything physically mentally mostly. I think I'm there A different is that Oh Oh I feel like it's uh It's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year, but I kind of go about it the same way like last year. I was intentional with everything I did I feel like this year it's gonna be the same thing It's probably a little bit more It won't work Uh, I say Scrub my gun I say like when you think of me you would think of like a like a bully like a silver bullet

I don't really a bullet. I'm always on the ball. That's how I like to play a thing You know No, I ain't I gotta be my nickname, but Oh Um think it fit me because I don't know I just like the defense. I feel like we got like you said we got a lot of freedom and we're moving around a lot A lot of the terms is like no, I don't know. I don't really not answer that I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on, but it's like I just like his defense. I like how the truth is I like what you got going on Uh No, I wanted too much sad. I was kind of like happy for you Yeah, that's what you want

All right, that's my dog. I don't see it kind of missing a little bit, but yeah, I'm happy for you though Well, don't think go ahead one last but coach days talked a lot about the guys who played some last year But maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for That wasn't maybe your national championship you guys How much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year? Will be in this bigger role and Yeah, I do feel like um Yeah, I do feel like I did win a nati last year, but like you said my role wasn't same as how's gonna be this year So yeah, I definitely want to want to go get another one experienced that like feeling maybe on the field a lot more place Championship in Nican, you know before and everything like that and Also, you get your your teeth knocked in, you know first game and you know can't have that happen because I know you don't really Thing and so just the concept mindset to continually get better But on the forefront of my mind and for front of anyone Here you can ask

Yeah Yeah, I know we look at the class stats every now and then I'd be like oh man. They're gone. They're gone No, it's been it's been good. I mean the guys here are still here. I must have definitely kind of bonded together pretty good Yeah Yeah, I mean Mark came in the other days like That class 12 and one best class ever and like yes, you know, I can't really can't really even you know Sitting to that, you know, not much left, but Yeah, I mean to do what we can and do what we can for this team has been really important for all of us and I think us Now realizing where the veterans, you know, like with all guys now in the group is meant kind of strange at least to begin with, you know, because you go from All those guys you like Donnie and Josh and those guys and all of sudden it's Sunday. We have a team meeting after the

Like the celebration the shoe and all of a sudden the next day there's gone and you know, it's just very different So I think us being able to step up as you know leaders and as As vets to help bring out, you know along the team our units and This program has been really important No, it's been doing really well. I mean I could go and he goes to work He's extremely athletic extremely flexible You know, he's a young kid obviously he's a lot of a lot of development a lot of he's a little adversity at all of us do And I think he's going through that right now, but he's been coming out on the better end of it so far and I'm excited to see what he can do because he's very impressive at this young stage

Yeah, extremely excited. I mean Trying to just build that culture back up again. You know like what we had last year I'm trying to do a little stuff here in there. I know I think we're going to Ray race of barbecue. I think tomorrow So shout out Ray race, but But yeah, just trying to get that brotherhood back get that you know that oblock spirit back sure it's coming soon soon Hopefully But just to kind of get those Not those same faces, but those same kind of mindsets back and our our group is important right now And it's it's been fun to meet new guys from different backgrounds and stuff like that and try to Figure out how to you know build that and mend that together. It's been pretty cool. Now as you are Want to be both experienced veterans on this team. How much do you feel like you have to be a leader for the students here? Yeah, for sure. I mean I think that comes It's it's obviously I don't feel like it's natural to anyone to immediately step up And that's something I've been working on every day and talking to God about

But I have to understand that and that's something I want to continue to work on. I want to be able to Be a guy that people can fall back on and like coach just saying before like we're gonna have highs and lows But the great players the ones being set our clocks to and I kind of want that's my goal as to be one of those people that you can do that And I think for especially a very new set of eyes in the Woody Not only coaches but players. I think it's very important to kind of keep that steady mindset and I think for me learning how to be a leader has been important just to not be too hard on myself But also not let myself kind of slack off in some departments. They try to keep steady Just your story itself though is Testament Of what it means to like for perseverance is tough to though right car something You know, that's a nice or have to stand up from somebody to say that right? I mean just yeah What do you what do you think you've shown more than anything else in every card? Yeah, I mean, I've been blessed You know, I've you know, I've been blessed with a lot of adversity. I think it's definitely maybe better on the back end and

you know Coach so it Coach day always talks about it and you don't you know great leaders aren't you know They can show it but you know a lot of people can show a lot of people can just talk about it But to be about it is important and I think to me now I've went through a lot of that adversity. I went through a lot of that stuff and My testament you know has been written in an interesting way But I think for me to take that next step is really important for not only for this team but for myself personally Yeah, he's been doing great. I mean he came in Big freaking strong. He's fun to be in the weight room with he's He's kind of quiet like that's kind of my first impression on but he's actually pretty funny He and his dad come over in the kind of joke around me so he's been doing a great job. All right game talk. He's been a great job For his size. He has like freaky athletic feet like I watch him do the ladders and that's a lot of massive over on those things You know doing a little itch shuffle, but I mean he's he was killing it and so he's been doing a great job

I can't wait to see how it kind of continues to develop throughout this summer and throughout this fall camp Somebody Yeah, Piggy's been doing great. I mean he He stepped up Piggy. Yeah, yeah, everyone refers to this piggy is his username one time nice everyone's be But anyway, you know pig's been doing great. He He's been able to step up and kind of bring around on those younger guys You know everyone's kind of trying to figure out their their new roles, and I think he's been He's His feet are quicker than what you think for a big guy. Yeah, really good feet. We get balanced So that's what makes me good. That's what I Well, tight end background now. I don't know many with that type of background But he's a high school receiver. They try to play as an age back

Really good Actually, we try to recruit back to visit matter to you if you have two different styles running backs Maybe one guy can do certain things better one guy can do Or is it you'll just say the best running back you can find you want to have different style Guys with different Whether they're big guys small guys Class catchers in between I Up Bandit way to 2-10-125, which is not going to be, but they didn't get the deal again.

Some guys just got a nose sticking down his own and he played with a lot of aggression down here running. That could be CJ, that could be James or it could be the freshman, though Jackson. It's just who has a nose for giving his own. That's where I'm going over here. You don't have to be 62. No, just because you're being there, don't make your nose stick off. We knew we could obviously, you know, freshen up running back through it and then blow it as air here, but what do you need to see from a freshman to feel comfortable with that length? In the first thing we were there on the ball, whether they do a little small detail, take care of the ball. The second thing would be how good they are in the past, because that's the hardest thing for high school because they're not really sure on high school. We have to understand the past, but by all their falls on him, me, so like Coach Day said, I'm the main person in my heart, so that's why I need to see first, and everything, Jackson. I will understand to you, so I have to be prepared to go in and do good.

Do you feel comfortable with the ball and I say, where they're at or at least, you know, where their time lies, right? Yeah, I think they're going to find, like I said, I tell all the young guys, he's a marathon out of the sprint. The first day, the first you've been an armistice, I'm a special team. You're an unspoken special team, then you're earned the right to be a a buck out of you, so get that down the field. I think they're turning the right direction. First practice, like it wasn't merit, so to build off those cleaning stuff to work on. Good? Yeah, good. Long day. I've just seen some of the younger guys in your room develop. I think about like Patrick Houston is coming in this year, seeing him working with you guys. Joshua, we've been making it. How's he coming home? I feel like they're definitely picking up quick. I mean, I was in their shoes one time, and I had Zach Harrison, Jabonte, and Tyler Frydell in front of me, so I was working on trying to be one of those peers that they work for me, and kind of just giving them the steps to get there,

and I feel like they're definitely picking up quick, and they're definitely going to be one of great freshmen. So we coach Joshua Sark about it. JT and Zach probably have made a ton of big spring. Same as some of the opportunities for you, and a lot of them. Is there a difference in the work that you've been getting through after camp? They've been Alaska. I feel like all the camps, I've definitely gotten a big course learned, and I love that side. I ask Coach J4, and I love getting more reps because I just like protecting my craft. So, I mean, some people may not need it, some people need it, but I mean, it's like you guys may not get it. What are the things on that course learned? So, what can I write? I mean, for me, it's always just kind of getting my little details perfectly, like my steps, my footing, kind of just affecting my toolbox, and what we call it, and my craft, and just trying to be a, it's like a win-everybody, so it's kind of different. What are your taker and taker's things?

Yeah, definitely just getting stronger, faster, everything all day above, but one of my big things is being a leader, and kind of just not trying to look still look up to Jack and Jake T, and kind of have my own kind of leadership, and be able to bring people into, so I feel like kind of have a lot of leaders on the B-line, and we have to be in position, so we kind of all kind of just count off the children. So, what does up top guys think of what they're all doing right? You know, the field, and just like that, you know, and try to put those people out. So, you need those guys, those that are just intimate. I mean, it's been competitive, and we love it. We all competitive people, we all love to fish each other, and that's really the thing that that's that of all, is, we feel like we all just kind of bounce it off each other, and see what one person does, and we kind of split it into archival box, and we all kind of just kind of build one great thing. You're going to go last year, and you've got to get the shot of the full back in the book, and the day of approaching that idea and two of coach's doing, I mean, I'll get to know about it, because you're a checks all your sloppy.

Okay. To get to test that. So, I definitely did it in high school. I was pulled back in a little bit of time, and so I feel like it kind of saw what I could do there, and Coach Wilson, honestly, he loved watching it too, before he left, and I feel like he planned that seed and coach day's head, and Coach Day kind of just went for it, and I tried to do the best I could to do it. Is that continuing now, man? Do you have anything in the screen? New play, but I did not know you haven't got that far. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And how tough is that, you know? But, yeah, look at that. Um, I like to think myself as a football player, I can really play any position on the field, you need me to, just give me a weaker two to learn it, and kind of perfect it, and I'll try to do my best for you. Can you check me the same thing? Oh, yeah. And I won't back. We're athletes, that's why. Can you just talk into Coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations and sort of side you and you've got to out to out some conversations after JT and Jack decided to come back? Just go ahead and wait until those weird perspectives and how did that help you maybe get the like mindset I guess when it needs to be in screen? Um, definitely kind of seeing it all the way through.

I feel like people kind of just see what happened, and they don't know everything that goes into it, how long the season is now, what you got to do to prepare for, and what's happening all that time from here to to then. So I feel like we definitely just coached JT and me kind of connected, and we kind of just talks man-to-man, and he kind of decent straight to me, and I feel like we kind of both are going to be honest, and we know we're making it. Yeah, I don't. We're making each other better every day, and we got the four best D-Ns, five best D-Ns, honestly, in the college football, and we're going to be one of the best D-Lines in college football. But you feel like a better player today than you were again in the season. Um, I feel like I've checked in big steps in my roles, of just being responsible and being more of a leader, and kind of stepping up and taking the step to kind of get out there more on the team, and kind of bring people in, and I feel like we're kind of helping out more. I think I'd rather be in a round of passes, to the T-K-C. Except sale. I mean, it sounds bizarre, but I mean, the season goes by so fast already, so when you're kind of like week 10,

you're like wow, it's already week 10, so now it's kind of, getting more time to kind of enjoy it, and kind of savor it, because we've come already here for a period of time, and freshmen space space, crazy. But you don't want to spend all your time in the first month of the year, right? Oh yeah. There is a place for yourself there, but I mean, there is a mindset there, that's the season. Yeah, definitely. Definitely going to have the mental stability to handle all those weeks, and all those practices. How much is Larry talking to you guys now, a little bit? Last question right here. It's 2016, 2017, four NFL 2.5 dollars, and so much. How much does he talk to you now? I mean, he doesn't have to talk about it. We know about it. We've seen it every day. We watch the film. We see them all working together. We know what it could be. We know what we could become. So we know we're right at the same, we're at the right place at the right time, and God wanted us to be here, and he knew we wanted us all to come together, and kind of play together, and be able to bounce off, and just perfect our craft together. And I feel like we all are just great individuals, and we come together, it's something special. Great. How did your expectations, like, S&P, with how do you feel you can put that to this point of guess?

I feel like I've made the plays that came to me, and that's where they all came in control. I've had more opportunities, those years progressed, and been in spots to be here on the ball. But the expectation was to come here, and contribute to the team, and try to find a way to push the team to win games at high level, and to be better than they were, and for me to play better than I was last year. So really just coming to try to grow with myself and with the team. So that was my big goal, and I feel like I've done a good job, and the team has done a good job, progressing through the year and getting better. So yeah, that's all I'm saying about that. Okay, the right thing made a lot of trouble. Yeah, I can't stand it right now. It just feels like a different season. What does it feel like for you going into playoffs? You know, you don't get to go, you want to necessarily break your chase, but here you are. Right, I mean, what? What is that sense that you have right now with this different play about the rigging of season?

I mean, everybody wants to say it's a new season in terms of, because if everybody's 0-0 right now, when you keep going, if you lose, you're done. So, I mean, but generally, that's how you could play every game. You know, to play every game, I'm like, it's your last game. So for me, I don't think it's really any difference if you have to go play at a high level every game, and that can't be based upon. Is it a player family? Yeah, I don't go play every game like it's the same thing. So, I would say in terms of that. No, you just have to play the game. Play the game is there. What feels difficult is defense right now, going into this, so you'll feel even more... Finally, you know, good by tight, and we close together. What was it? I mean, what was your sense of the brotherhood, so to speak of the defense? I feel like we've progressed throughout this season. We had to make a change after game six, because we lost and we didn't play well at the game. And I feel like we'd grown from that, and add to a better place. And over these past two weeks,

off just realizing, okay, these are the things that we've messed up throughout the year. These are what we need to face. These are what this team is trying to exploit on us. So just really going back to everything, seeing what can do better for this kind of game and for the next couple of years. Last couple of questions. Deep, I told you, you heard me, fuck a hell. How does the Tennessee's widespread and herbaceevers impact you as a subject? I feel like it makes the game more and more one-on-one game. It makes your receivers, and they're in DBs at the play at a second game, and the guys up front. And it makes it, truthfully, like those guys, I think, do their job, and these guys, I think, do your job. You got to be able to stop the running with the people they have in the run fit, and yet to be able to stop the path with the people they have out there. So that's what they do, and they do it at a really elite level. So it's going to be tough to go in. And finally, what's the joint conflict on this discussion? The coach knows the time about the speed at which there are few guys who have been calling in place. This is built the test over the different paths

that you can play calling as good. And the player kind of manages it, that gives you just the speed at which you just call in. All right. It allows you to get your clean senator by that. So earlier, just a ability to see the formation, see what keys that you have before the play, and have knowledge of your job, and not really thinking, being able to play and not think during the games are really big thing. So whenever you can get the call out faster, and play at a high level, and play without thought, that's a really good thing for you. Thank you. Get a look, thank you very much. Appreciate you all. Thank you, Tom. Because you're a good coach, you're a sloppy. Oh, yeah. It gives a touchdown. So I definitely didn't high school. I was pulled back and a little bit of tidied in. So I feel like it kind of saw what I could do there, and Coach Wilson, obviously, he left watching it too, before he left. And I feel like you're playing that seed in Coach Day's head, and Coach Day kind of just went for it, and tried to do the best I could to do it. Is that continuing now? I mean, are there any people? Do you have anything in the screen? New playbook. I did not know you hadn't got that far.

Did you ever get that deepest? How tough was that? Oh, yeah, look at that. I like to think myself as a football player. I can really play any position on the field. You need me to just give me a weaker two to learn it, and kind of perfect it, and try to do my best for you. Can you check me the same thing? Oh, yeah. Well, what? Graphically, that's why. Can you just talk into Coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations and sort of start viewing it, going out to outside conversations, after JT and Jack decided to come back? Just kind of went into those, and you're expected, and how did that help you movie? Good. The right mindset I guess could have made this question. Definitely kind of seeing it all the way through. I feel like the people kind of just see what happened, and they don't know everything that goes into it, how long the season is now, what you got to do to prepare for, and what to happen in all that time from here to then. So I feel like we definitely just coached in me, kind of connected, and we kind of just talks man-to-man, and he kind of just sent straight to me, and I feel like we kind of broke it. I'm just messing with him. We know we're making it.

Making each other better every day. We got the four best DNs, five best DNs, honestly, and then coach football, and we're going to be one of the best D-rimes in coach football. How do you feel about playing with today any more again this evening? Well, I feel like I've taken big steps in my rules of just being responsible and being more of a leader, and kind of stepping up and taking a step to kind of get out there more on the team, and kind of bring people in, and I feel like I'm kind of helping out more. I think I'm right here around the past 17th year of season. Next sound? I mean, it sounds bizarre, but I mean, the season goes by so fast already, so when you're kind of like week 10 and you're like, wow, it's already week 10. So now it's kind of, it gives you more time to kind of enjoy it, and kind of savor it, because you've come already here for a really refreshments, for a slice of crazy. But you know what's good on your cow? It's the first, first month of the year, right? And there is a, not pace yourself that, but I mean, there's a mindset that we've got to season. Yeah, definitely, definitely going to have that, the mental stability that hand all those weeks and all those practices.

How much has Larry talked to you guys about like that? Last question right here. He doesn't have to talk about it. We know about it. We've seen it every day. We watch the film. We see him all working together. We know what it could be. We know we could become. So we know we're right at the same, we got the right place at the right time. And God wanted us to be here. And he knew we wanted us all to come together and kind of play together and be able to bounce off and just perfect our craft together. And I feel like we are just great individuals. And we come together at something special. You get like good coaches who believe in you. And like they give you the tools to go out there and just play with confidence. You know, not their doubting yourself. Like you got your teammates who got your back. Like my first play when I got up there to the seat. Like when to sail, I'd be in a germane. Like first thing they say is like, no, worry, just go out there and play with confidence. You know, you know, the tools, the usual tools, just go out there and make a play. And where about a play coming to you? You know, where is your time and show of job? You just do it. And then like, say what goes well. He's like, he gives me, he puts me in a position. Like, like the drills we put in, the work we put in,

the one-on-one tools to just go out there and just perform. But the highest level. How much better are you right now than maybe last month and force break right? I mean, I got to lay better just because I've transitioned a little bit to the inside. Nick was far, so I'm like, now I'm actually just like catch, catch, take me again. It's often prevers not. It's not always press at the line. So it's like, now I'm able to like move my feet, move my hands. Like see, like what I got to do just like just a case. I got to go back in corner. I can, I'm playing off. Now I'm very confident out there. Do you think that Nick was a natural fit for you or have you had to kind of convince yourself to transition around? I mean, I feel like it's natural for me because I feel like me, individually, I'm a fast learner. A fast learner, like coaches help us learn fast. And like, because they're always honest about the techniques and stuff. So you like, you play down, like you pick up all the things and then like when we get out here, they coach us to like the techniques. So we used to go out there and play like fast spot. And then you know, I would have like, reversitility, you're able to just go out there and just compete. Is that where you kind of stuck this spring? Or do you think it kind of mounts there?

So I've really been stuck there. This springed a little bit right. Whenever you get this like other things, I just bounce out there every once in a while. Just like have fun. See if I still got it every once in a while. So it's as good as going to compete at most spots. You mentioned the technique. What technique, you know, tips and things that you had to pick up and learn from. What's walking from taking the insight? I mean, it's always like, you know, because what preachers are asking hands, like see it, you see it, move your feet, and then hit your hand with your hands on the mat. So it's like, when you get like, when you out there, you're able to like, this process like the way the receiver comes off the ball, looking at the hips, and seeing like the way he move. And are you able to pick up like the row concepts? You can get out of that. Like, so it's being like other coach walls for me. Like as a player and just like him breaking out football to you like one on one. It's like very beneficial. What was the hardest part of making that transition from outside that sense? I really say like the corner you've got your cover two, your cover three, your cover one. It's easy, but you got nickel.

Now, so many responsibilities you've got to see, like the row concepts, you've got to be able to process like diagnosed, rouse faster than you got to do in that corner. And just be able to like, everything's quid like a transition. You've got to like, you got to move fast. You got to explain to move fast. It's like game recognition. Where you think maybe from the most since you got it. And how does it do? I would definitely say, I would definitely say it has been caused when you get to like college. It's a little bit different. Like high school, we don't got to worry about things like that. When I want you to get to college in a school like this, like your recognition of plays and like your loyal jobs, the way like the coverage is supposed to be played. I understand all your teammates are supposed to get into it. Because I guess easy. What have your product been? Uh, definitely so far. It's very talented. Easy, great dudes. A humble guy. A great teammate. Very supportive. As I can guide that you don't want to run around. You can feed off your energy because you can see when you make a play. He's like, he like, IGB. It's like, IGB 2.0.

So he's like, when you get off the road, guys, that would get energy. It makes you play a little bit harder. And it's like, when you make a play, it's out there. It's helping you. It's being out there with him. He's a good player. One of those guys. The first question is, can't fool kids. I'm going to say obviously in the last few years. I'm going to help me see your face now. What is it about one build that gets you to play at a high school? It's a big question. I know the question. Let me just start some questions. Because we have so many kids come out of Google and just play at games. I'll leave like, leave schools. And then like, like, track's a big part of it. Because I mean, to be able to actually in a Google everybody that I run a track. Like it's mandatory. You don't really get a choice. When you able to just like get out here and like know how to compete. And then like, G like, G and Bill's that mental toughness into you. So it's like, have you like, if you're down, you got to be mentally tough. Because I'm not like, life's not going to be easy. So it's like being out here, being able to compete. When are you down? Just pick yourself back up. I mean, that's what being is done for me. And that's what being done for me.

So we asked why that? Did you how would you describe the mentality of the defense right now? It's an opportunity for a rehab for Jordan. Yeah, hungry and thankful. I mean, we know how the last time when, you know, we had a chip on our shoulder. I mean, we were riding high before that game. And we took that loss. And we came back how to make a couple changes. But I think we understand what, you know, everything's at stake right now. You know, just fighting to where another high stage is for the next game. That's what's on stake. And just to be able to represent this state and this team. I mean, we understand what's on the line. And, you know, we're just hungry and blessed that we get this opportunity to play in the Rose Bowl. Right behind your Adam King, WVNS. What do you remember most about walking off the field in Eugene? What was kind of lost your mind in that moment? I had just, uh, I mean, there was a, I don't think anybody imagined it. Imagine us losing. You know, I didn't. That's for sure. And I think after that, it was, uh, kind of hit deep. But I understand it. That man, we still, there's still a lot of ball left to be played.

I mean, you can let it sting for a little bit. But, you know, if you let it carry over too long, then, you know, there, there goes. There goes your whole season. But I think we did a great job of just understanding coming together in this room right here. I'm not being afraid to display or hold a accountability for one another. And, you know, as, as that happened, we came back, we grouped and, you know, we're just, you know, just going right now. And, you know, I'm just blessed for those specific moments, you know, losing. I mean, no one wants to lose, but the testimonies and the things are taught within those little situations speaks of all of you. After all, Rob, Vladimir, and Rob. Jay, what did he say from Kenya? The last couple of weeks, then. Was there like a push from him? And, you know, there were many conversations with him. He can see that he's playing some of his best football. And, you see it? Yeah, I mean, that's, that's my boy. He's in the R2X club, too. But, you know, Keata, I mean, every time his, his numbers call, he goes out there and makes the most of it. No, no matter where, where we at in the game,

when he goes out there, he's just hungry. He wants to go make plays and, you know, we see it in practice, so it's not surprising to us. Bill, we're a bit away. It's a bonus this bad. Bill and Gabriel's obviously very elusive and are talented. He's not very tall. How important it could be to just kind of stay in your past rush lanes and neglect a lot of balls and kind of make a difference that way? Yeah, I think it just comes out being disciplined. No one who you're playing against, like you said, then he's a, he sure, but he's very elusive. I mean, he can, he is making throws. I mean, he get out the parking to everything. So I think for us, we just have to discipline him and just continue to just meet with Coach Jay, meet with the coach's nose and understand how we can just eliminate that. What should about you and Jack? I mean, your personality seems to be a little different. You're more on the quiet side. He's not. How about you play together four years, both five store guys, kind of describe your relationship with him, friendship with him, and just kind of how you cop along each other? Man, that's my brother.

Like he said, we're different, but very alike. I think outside, like you said, he's louder. I'm quiet, but once we're on that field, we're like the same person. We'll do anything for this team. We'll die for our players and we'll give everything we got. Room together for four years, correct? Yeah, fall camp. Yeah, sometimes go over there. Sleep over there. We have our share of days when we, when I'm neat, he's neat. Or we might both be messy, but we do a good job. Yeah, I'd probably say I'm a better kicker, Jack though. Tony Gertman, like I hope. When you're playing a team for the second time, and that was almost a season to go by now, how much of, are you at square one with the scouting and preparation? Or how much do you take from that game? How much do you avoid taking so that you don't have any preconceived notions of what you're going up against on the offense? On the offense, flying. I say it's pretty 50-50. I mean, that game, like you said, it was a while ago,

but at the same time, they elevated as a team. So did we. So we understand that they had, they made some changes for sure. There's a certain tendency we can take back from that game, but we also understand that they went on a little run after that. And we can see that they elevated as an offense. So we just got to continue to watch those games, dissect other games and just continue to see what stands out and what they changed from the past game. We got a couple calls on Zoom that will wrap up with, first we have Nick Hamilton from Nightcast Media. Nick? Just wanted to ask you basically about the synergy of this defense and how you guys were able to not only celebrate the triumphs, but get through the adversity, be able to be this top-notch defense that you are in college football today. Here, the question one more time. Yeah, no problem. I wanted to ask you about the synergy you are able to develop or of course, the season obviously celebrating the triumphs,

but also getting through the adversities to where you are, are the top-notch defense that you are today. Yeah, I mean, like you said, we went through a lot of trials to trials, but there's also, there's a lot of things we can take away from all the wins and losses. And from those, those wins, we understood that, hey, we can be the best defense in the country. And from those losses, we understand that there's still things that need to be fixed. And I think when you take all that in, at once, that it comes down to the common goal or the common target, which is you can, there's always learning points everywhere. And depending how we dissect those games or how we just continue to come as one and elevate, you know, we continue to just collect all those learning points and just continue to grow from them. And one final question. Joey Coffin, Columbus Dispatch. Joey? What have you guys done better in the, especially in the Tennessee game, and just late in the season, you think about turning some of the pressures that you've got on the quarterbacks and the sacks and getting a home in some of those situations?

Yeah, I think it was more just understanding the defense as a whole, understanding everybody's job. I think as the season went on, we had to understand that, you know, we have to know what's going on in the back end, we have to know what's going on in the linebacker crew to understand what plays we have, a room of freedom. And I think once we understood that and got a better understanding of everybody's job, I mean, it showed this play because, you know, everybody knows what each other's doing. It's not like the lineback's know what they're doing. The corners and BI, they know only their job. I think we all know each other's job and we continue to ask each other questions on, you know, if they're listening to how they can get to the quarterback and, you know, if I'm dropping and playing quarterbacks, I can ask Cody on how to open field tackle. So, you know, we just kind of lean on each other's understanding because, you know, like I said, like Denzel knows how to play corner-bedded, then I know how to play corner. So, you know, he has more, more wisdom at that position than I do. JT, thank you very much. Thank you. Just for the moments like that, when the ball's kind of moving away.

Definitely, a little bit of both. Obviously, I just wanted the team to win. I think we got a chance to win. No, definitely towards it and the stretch that last drive. I was a couple of plays here, a couple calls that he made me should have gotten. But, I think the frustration more so it just comes from, you know, wanting to win more. Anything. True. You said he was a little surprised so much attention. You got right away from the defense. How about you? Yeah, definitely. You may be killed in more one-on-ones kind of how the game plan was set up. You didn't have to go like, you know, different covers out of cloud to my side. And this is kind of how the game goes. What's the process been? Sometimes where, for whatever reason, just to see that. Yeah, definitely. Especially in college, a lot of the game friends, defensively, were taking your life. You know, we had a lot of success at a high-altitude. One of the ball had a different, the weapons, they kind of still get the victories. And I was the only one who continued to do better jobs when I had it. Why are the communication the process been like post-game,

getting on the same page with Kyler, just against exchange, to taxed or things like that? Yeah, film. Definitely kind of asking what did I see there, kind of go over and play. I just kind of get to know what I saw, and kind of different feedback there. Exchange words. Mark, I get it. We're asking questions about the previous game. But are you the type of guy to let a game like that winger, or how do you flush it? You got to move on. Got to move on. It's a long season. Got 16 more of them. Hopefully, no, I can stay healthy throughout the year and just continue to build and get better each week. You guys did so much work throughout the off season to get on the same page. How different is it when you get into that regular season? Yeah, it's totally different. It's totally different. You can do a lot of things, you know, in shirts and shorts. And then once you go out there, put practice and you got pads on. You do like the joint practice, you do the colds, but there's nothing like actually going out there and live action. And really trying to be on the same page. So I think that would really should both continue to develop and we can better just go ahead. Yeah, that'd be just a matter of reps then. This much is really good. Yeah, I definitely, definitely.

Like I said, I was kind of my first live action together. So I think it's going to be a bit of a year early impression. So I turn around and feel together and I'm in the preseason with Kyle. Yeah, but now obviously I have a death turn. Respect JG's call or preseason. And obviously be off for really healthy. That's kind of the most important thing. And obviously that's all healthy even going for it. So, Marvin, what are your early impressions of the Rams? What do you think of the Rams? Yeah, I mean, they're a good team. They're good physical team. I got a new lot of new guys up front, I think. That's kind of where the strong suit is. Kind of a little different to Buffalo, come over to a little match coverage. So I'm excited to go against them. Personally, when the belts take taking one of my opportunities, how do you feel today? Wasn't many of them. Wasn't many of them. So, Beth, I think you did. Which were you thinking versus just playing? You know, not getting a preseason game. Actually, into the past three season. It was definitely, definitely thinking a lot out there. And I think I'll come with reps.

I think to think and less, you're just going out there and playing. Definitely come with reps. And it's something you're going to get better at. But I think definitely I was thinking a lot out there. Is there anything you can do to improve that? That's from coverage. And I think you didn't get into the past because you're going to face that a lot. Yeah, I mean, you just got to see you get open for yourself, making yourself available. And when the ball does, going away, making the play. Beth's, he's just taking you away. I mean, other guys are having a chance to get open. So, that's not kind of how I look at it. It's no longer since the senior law offense. That's the best thing of course. That kind of thing would be with Tyler. This is something that comes pretty quickly in a new game. There's something like that. Hopefully sooner or later, I think. I'll continue to see. I don't think we're in a bad place right now at all. Obviously, I don't really think that. But just a live reps, we'll continue to grow and show. I think that you think how I believe maybe different than somebody else may believe. You know, I like to practice at least like the legal positivity. You know what I mean? So, but he, the energy I would be on, just though,

hyper the beyonds. So, that's kind of how the goal is. Living my whole life on the NFL, team captain, like specifically, and I felt I wasn't a captain in high school. Wasn't a captain in college. But I want me to jump across high schools. I feel like I'm not going to be a captain till I get to that felt. But that would be awesome. But, you know, that happens up to grades. But not either way, I want to assume a role as a captain from perspective of guys on a team. Big, big award. And to get back to that point. Yeah, I mean, I can't say that, I mean, I guess the biggest thing is that I felt like I was used to in the past. But it didn't take just the first day. LTAs, it took training and left and right. Once this season ended, because I know what was going to be shared. So, it was like a lot of, yeah,

grips, just to give back to feeling, like myself for day 1 LTAs. And then that whole first week, but now like today specifically, just changing some small things with my feet, that visit, talking about the long coach, about some things that I'm doing. I feel like I need to get to that, to sell that traditional angle that I love to sit on. I thought I felt, I thought I felt great already, but I'm okay. I felt even better. So I need more exercises tomorrow. Now I'm getting my feedback and how I like the right side and on the left side. So I'm excited. I mean, obviously I feel like, in the league, whether I left the right, if you're still going against premier guys. Obviously, your high expectations for your left and your right tackle. But, um, there's definitely, like, the level of energy, and like the expectations definitely take the human side. Because now connectable, I'm like, that's the, that's the tackle world, you know. So, um, so yeah, I would say,

in terms of communication as far as this, even outside of the facility, just stuff like that, like really creating that, the untacled quarterback, and you bond even more off the field, I think has been something that's even the cool, I mean, I got a text one day, because I, I keep, well, I was like, you know, yeah, I've been training both. I've been training both. You know, I, I asked after the season there, like, honestly, you know, we'll talk to you, so please season, and I just got a text on, having what happens with the free agency. Then, so I was like, you know what, I had an old season right tackle. So, if I get the word, I'm going, I'm standing right tackle. I'll just do what I did before, I'm doing all that. Plus, I was like, I might as well just train the left tackle now, as if I'm going to be left tackle. And I'd rather do that, than train on right tackle, because I'm going to be left tackle. I was like, I'm going to switch my feet. You know what I mean? So, I'm like, let me just prepare an advance, and I was like, yeah, it was kind of, you know? I think occasionally,

I'm third down, there'd be a lot of twists, that I was just, no, like, it's automatically going to come. And I think that was my mindset for the first half of the season. Like, I didn't have to go into the game with some pros like, oh my gosh, I did that. I kind of figured, okay, this is the type of rush. I'm going to get, this is how this guy usually rushes. If I get the vibe, this is how the ends, like the rush, tackles that first year guys, we got the Premier patch on. I already know what it was going to be. I already know what we every stud. And honestly, just knowing that's kind of an advantage. So, you're not, you're not, you're not, oh, the problem's with him. I said, it was never a bad job. But it comes out when I said, three plays in a row. It's too many. I knew that. It was a good one. I said a lot. You know what I mean? So I'm watching more everybody else. And he rarely goes out there. I'm occasionally a third down. I was like, you know, I was like, he's going to pick me. You know what I mean? So, fact, fact, it's kind of, it's also kind of an advantage in a way. But it's also exciting. I'm okay. I'm going to get the

hardest look. You know, so is a real, real rest. So, really, on our way to count process, that I was like, hey, when I tell me, let me know about, I'm just going to train it. I was training all with to TAs. I guess if I didn't hear anything about TAs, I came in like, so, you know what I mean? Because just like, I'm cool with training both continuing. I would have been cool with training both continually. But I feel like anybody, any position will be like, okay, like, you want to, as soon as possible, give your feet, settle down, your hips, settle down, your hands, settle down, certain kind of that. We would have been hard of it if you weren't both very healthy. No. No. No. But, they're definitely, but in terms of the development, they're definitely a lot faster to stand on one side. But I think having that, the weeks that we had the transition with the seasons over,

I'm glad you like those five. You know, good. I'm trying to get up, put up my pride and make things out of time right now. But when it comes back, I'm going to show them the one house. I've got a house not too far from so I told them, I got that house, like, like a yellow side. Like, these days. You know what I mean? So, yeah. That's doesn't, having to use stock or anything. Doesn't mean anything. So, we're, we have to play on Friday, and that's really all that matters. We're going to take two more from zoom before turning it back. Our first one's going to come from Steven from Cleveland.com. Go ahead. It's the final. Sorry. Hey, Caleb. We've seen, you were talking about the Ohio State Office, the success that they've had. Obviously, Jeremiah has been a big part of that. What's it been like this year going against him in practice? And, you know, after doing that, does it surprise you at all to see him having a success he's had as a freshman?

No, it doesn't bring surprises. It was pretty, pretty easy to see the talent that he has and the blessings that God has put on his plate. But it's always a, it's always a challenge going against Jeremiah and the other receivers and Mecca and Karnel and practice. And even guys like Brandon and his impression Rogers, they do a great job bringing looks for the defense and create a lot of obstacles. Our final question from zoom is going to come from Dan Hope. Go ahead, Dan. Caleb, you, Quinn had a lot of success against you guys when you played him at Alabama last year. Just what do you remember from going up against him last year and what can you learn from that game? Really smart quarterback. Knows how to operate their offense. Puzzle ball in the right places. And then, of course, our Keyeson does a great job putting him in positions to win. All right, back to you. Yep, thank you, Rob Aller. Columbus Dispatch. Caleb, JT and Jack Land opposite sides. And they is opposite off the field as they are on in terms of personality and just the people they are.

They're offices, but they also are like one of the closest people I know. They spend a lot of time together. They've come from different sides of the country so they're different people for sure. But they're both really great people. A really great man. Sorry, I respect both of them. The personalities. How did you do that? Um, I'm not going to do that. I'm sorry. I'm not going to do that. It's about to ask the war and podcast. You know, throughout the throughout the season, we would always see you on Wednesday nights. You and Nathan would be some of the last people off the field. For the things that you're working on after a practice, always the same. Is it a routine? What are the things that you're hoping to get out of those extra moments after practice? Uh, some routine, pretty much the key that we need to go into the game with. And then also changes week to week on, based on what our jobs are going to put us into doing. So every week we go through the same things.

And then we add certain things that we do for the, for the, what the team that we play is going to ask us to comment. Bill, we're going to use the latest action. What's, what do they do? Well, in those spots, what's the key thing you guys in those moments with Quinn? They do a really good job with I candy. And it creates a lot of challenges for defense in order to see if it's runner path. And see, um, because that's when they're going to take those shots too as well. So really just having great eye discipline, seeing the line and seeing what it's telling us. So that's, miss what it does. Deep break, Nick Walker, Letterman Roll. Hey, you guys had a pretty good game plan for Tyler Warren. When you guys played him, you guys have another technical good tight end and gunner. What do you guys kind of have to do to limit him and how to, what do you think about his game? He's a really good player. He makes a lot of plays and he's has a lot of receiving yards this year.

So really just do the same thing we've done all year. Just be disciplined in our responsibilities. And if you're on them, you got to make the play when it comes. Right. One of the mandra billets. Play them. When you look at their receivers, it's kind of a whole, you know, they spread ball around. It's a lot of what stands out about the way that they can spread ball around. A lot of really good athletes. I play with Isaiah Bond, Lasser, who's a really great receiver. A lot of speed. And then all their receivers have made a lot of plays. So I mean, everybody has to be on that peasy queue as if we're going to stop them and have it do a really good job. Uh, front row here. Ten May, Letterman Rowell. Yeah, Kel, but you moved up here. I don't have to get to tell you when you moved it basically a year ago. And so it was a little bit of a leap of faith because you know, you know how many athletes are on this team get athletes to stuff. But when did you really feel this defense come into its own? And then then pass that, man, watching in the Rose Bowl, your recognition of what was coming

seemed to be on point. Did it feel like that? I mean, you personally. I think the defenses played really well throughout the season. I think we've had games where we played better and games where we haven't put it all together. But I think that's how all defenses are. So I can't say there's a certain moment where I think we put it together. But what's your second part of your question? Well, you seem really on point against Oregon about recognizing what was coming. I mean, you were really active out there directing and things like that. Did it feel like that? I feel like as Luke said earlier, the preparation that we put in goes into that and just feeling comfortable and what we're doing, comfortable and what we're seeing with the other teams. I feel like that allows us to play fast and can me and Laketon to communicate to everybody else. Did I miss anyone for questions here? Steve, how long in front of you in this sports? Yeah, Caleb, but you came to Ohio State to play for National Championship. And there were a lot of ups and downs throughout the season.

Just to be in this position, the last four teams still live. Just you feel validated by that. Did you always have faith that this is how it was going to turn out? I came to Ohio State to become a better player and to help the team be as good as it can be. Not to win a national championship. Not like that wasn't the only goal for me coming here. I really just wanted to be in the team and be with the brotherhood. But it's a great feeling being in the final four and being with the team. Everything that comes with that, but it's a blessing to be here. And one final question, Bill, where Ben wants to play this guy? Yeah, I did want to follow up when I talked to you at the after the game. You said when they scored their first and second touchdown, you were really hot on the sidelines. What was your message to the team? You know, that's a good offense. They're going to score against most people. Why were you so hot? Really just because we didn't execute, which left them score. We've done that a lot, which is something we can't do in these big games and these games where

it's winter go home. So we got to make the plays when they come and get our competitive excellence as Coach Dases make the play where your numbers call. I feel like they're definitely picking up quick. I mean, I was in their shoes one time and I had Zach Harrison, Javonte, Tyler Frydell in front of me. So I feel like I'm just trying to be kind of one of those peers that they work for me and kind of just give them the steps to get there. And I feel like they're definitely picking up quick and they're definitely going to be one of great freshmen. So we coach Josh, you're talking about it. JT and Jack probably don't need it. It's on his head. It's great. So maybe that's one of the opportunities for me to do that. Is there a difference in the look for it that you've been getting through after camp, or the last couple? I feel like all the camps I've definitely gotten a big course learned and I love that. So I asked Coach J4, I love getting more reps because I just like perfecting my craft. So I mean, some people may not need it. I mean, I'm just like being as many reps as I can.

I mean, for me, it's always just kind of getting my little details perfectly, like my steps, my footing, kind of just perfecting my toolbox is what we call it and my craft, and just trying to be a second winner every place we're trying to do. We're going to take our biggest steps. Yeah, definitely just getting stronger faster, everything all the above, but one of my big things is being a leader and kind of just not trying to still look up to Jack and JT and kind of have my own kind of leadership and be able to bring people into. So I feel like kind of have a lot of leaders on the D line at the D infosition. So we kind of just kind of talk to each other and stuff. Is that been a tough time for you to do the game? I'm going to talk to you guys, playing with them all, and keep on the field, and just like that to make it out. And try to put it in the best you like. So you need to do this guys. How does that transition happen? Um, it's repetitive and we love it. We all competitive people, we all love to fish each other. And I feel like the thing in the best side of all is, we're all just kind of bouncing off each other and seeing what one person does

and kind of putting it into our actual box. And we all kind of just kind of build one great thing. Do you ever know, unless you're in, you've got to get the shot of, put a full back in the box. And did they approach you that are there and you coach them? I mean, how did that come about? Because you're a good Jackson, all your slot being. All right. It gives a touch to that. So I definitely did it in high school. I was full back and a little bit of tight end. So I feel like it kind of saw what I could do there in Coach Wilson. Honestly, he left Washington too before he left. And he played that seed in Coach Day's head and Coach Day kind of just went for it. And I tried to do the best I could to do it. Is that continuing now? Do you have anything in the screen? New playbook, I did not know yet. And got that far. Yeah, yeah, yeah. People have tough percent of the seed. But you're looking back. I like to think myself as a football player. I can really play any position on the field. You need me to just give me a weaker two to learn it and kind of perfect it and I'll try to do my best for you. Kit Jack, do the same thing. Oh, yeah. And we'll talk about what we're talking about. Graphically, that's what I'm talking about.

Kit, he's talking to Coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations in the show of saw you and got out to have some conversations. After you've JT and Jack decided to come back. Just went ahead and went into those with respect given and how do that help you really get the right mindset I guess when I need this. Um, definitely kind of seeing it all the way through. I feel like people kind of just see what happened and they don't know everything that goes into it. How long the season is now. What you got to do to prepare for it and what happened in all that time from here to to then. So I feel like we definitely just coached in. We kind of connected and we kind of just talks. Man oh man. And he kind of just sent straight to me and I feel like we kind of both have been on the same thing. We know we're making it. We're making each other better every day. We got the four best DNs. Five best DNs, honestly, in the college football. And we're going to be one of the best DLIs in college football. But you feel like the better player today in your game this season. Oh, I feel like I'm taking big steps in my roles of just being responsible and being more of a leader and kind of stepping up and taking a step

to kind of get out there more on the team. They kind of bring people in and I feel like I'm kind of helping out more. How do you record A and Ramp? I'm a TKFC. Let's say I'm a DLFC. I mean, it sounds bizarre, but I mean the season goes by so fast already. So I mean, you're kind of like week 10 and you're like wow, it's already week 10. So now it's kind of, it gives you more time to kind of enjoy it and kind of save for it because you remember you year three and freshman's face crazy. It's year one spin on your powder in the first month of the year, right? I mean, there is that pace yourself there. I mean, there is a mindset, but I did that season. Yeah, definitely. Definitely going to have to have the mental stability to handle all those weeks and all those practices. How much is Larry talking to you guys around like this? Last question right here. 2016, 2017, 4 NFL D-French and I was all in San Francisco. How much does he talk about that? I mean, he doesn't have to talk about it. We know about it. We've seen it every day. We watch the film. We see them all working together. We know what it could be. We know we could become. So we know we're right at the same rather right place at the right time.

And God wanted us to be here. And He knew we wanted us all to come together and kind of play together and be able to bounce off and just perfect our craft together. And I feel like we are just great individuals and we come together at some discussion. Doing it, what were the deliberations? I'm surprised it's even a conversation. Like, it should always be live. Let's tell you. Let me play football. So obviously there's a proximity to the season which is a little reckless, I understand that. But in spring, we're competing for jobs. I mean, if I'm a quarterback, I'm asking to be live so I can show him how I'm different than, you know, anyone that can't be live. You know what I mean? They're always trying to find an edge and if you're never fully alive, I don't think you fully give guys opportunity to be who they want to be or who they can be. So that being said, I will cast my vote, but that will not be my final decision on that. But I will cast my vote. The guys are hearing it well. It was good for all parties involved

and more we can do that better, but I'm sure that is coming to a close here very quickly. So. That Murphy, 24-7. Right. General Maya off the field, we saw after practice on the side of the day that the mob that came to get autographs and things, when you're working with him on all these things you're talking about, but also dealing with the life of being one of the biggest names in college football, how do you help mentor him in that aspect? Yeah, I mean, it's a blessing to be able to be in a position where, you know, can provide insight or, I wouldn't say recommendations, but just, you know, give perspective. How he chooses to receive the perspective or not one and not, he always does, but which is fine. But to be in that position is really humbling. That being said, he does a really good job on his own. He doesn't need to check talent too much. He's really done a great job. Again, the way he was raised and his morals and humble would always sign and take him pictures.

I'm always trying to be the bad guy for him because he's not going to be and just says again more about his character. But he's not the only guy. Any guy would kind of do that. We have a group full of awesome young guys, but Jeremiah has done a great job with it, and hang on it. And it's definitely growing at an exponential rate, to say the least. But I think he's built for it and he's been handled at a high level. But those around him, we're trying to help him out a little bit. Yeah. You heard me, fuck out, how? What made, Quintsey the first freshman to this black striker issue? Oh. Yeah, I mean, that's a good question. I think that, uh, you know, frankly, you know, I don't, I'm not really fully evolved about that. So that can be, but I wasn't. You know, I think that people on the outside would be defense or even coach day or anybody brought it to my attention. You know, we're kind of just going about practice and that's our expectation to make plays,

not make mistakes. And he was starting to make a lot of, a lot of plays consistently. I think the consistent level that he's been as a person, uh, being on, being on time and doing what his job description on each play and the ball is going your way and making some big plays. And, uh, you know, it starts, it starts being seen by your peers. And your peers start asking for it. They start barking, getting a strike off all those kind of things. That's the ultimate sign of respect. I think with your peers, you know, go to your bat. He's not going for his bat. No one, uh, people are bringing it to your position coach. I think it speaks volumes of the, uh, the general respect that you're earning, through the process. So I think something like that happened. And, uh, you know, as well as they're based on his peers and the other coaches. Ryan Day was talking about how impressed he's been this spring with Austin Sarovale. All that he's been able to do. And Tyler Bohn was talking last week about the importance of the cross-training and all that that goes into that. Just how much have you seen Austin benefit from this spring and everywhere that he's been?

And helping with peace, do you think he's going to be regardless of where he fits on his offensive line? Yeah, I think Austin's been awesome. I mean, he literally, I mean, you know, what was he saying? He played every, he's played every position. We just move around, you know, and, uh, he handles it. And, you know, he's one of those guys. I feel like he watched film over and over again day after day. His name never really gets brought up, you know, in a good way. Like, you know, the old line, your name gets brought up when, uh, usually not going as well, you know, I mean, they're literally at the point of the attack on every single play. So there's nowhere to hide. And so, uh, but Austin, when his name gets brought up, he's like, man, that was a good job. Very good job. Pass off that combo. Whatever. It's always positive. And, uh, they're really impressed with him. He started in the winter. Did a great job through the winter. Again, continuing to build their respect for his peers. And then he's going to good job. Really good job just being, uh, very consistent through spring. Our left, Jeff Gilbert, press pros. Brian, and you've been working more with the whole offense. When it comes to quarterback play, what has grown in your, I don't know,

appreciation of that position and what those guys have to do and go through? What do you think more about those guys versus maybe what you thought before? It's just a wide receiver guy. Yeah, I mean, I mean, there's no just a wide receiver guy. If you are just a wide receiver guy, you won't be a very later home. It's all about, it's all about quarterback play, you know, so I think in that same world, though, to the point is that, you know, great receiver or, you know, receiver guy, whatever you want to call it, there's only one page, just the quarterbacks page. So everything is based off them. They're, whether it be their progression, their timing, the stresses they have, is what we're trying to minimize. So, uh, if you don't fully understand the quarterback play, it's hard to, you know, maximize receiver play, I think, you know, that being said, um, yeah, I mean, I'm so always learning, you know, I think that, uh, I can't say any is jumped out massively right now, but I would say that, uh, you know, I guess I would say that the preparation level, I mean,

the, what is required to execute and play at a high level, it's just not capable in the, a lot of time, right? I mean, there's only so much time where I'd be with players. If you're not willing to spend, you know, your own time, getting prepared for practice, to be, uh, to maximize one's ability, uh, there's a good chance you're not going to maximize your ability. So, you know, other positions, I mean, all lines, same thing, I mean, receiver play sometimes can, can, you know, get away from it. We do a great job studying and being in the room extra, for sure. But the requirement of a quarterback to know, uh, the fixed protections, uh, the BR run game coordinator, based on the calls, you know, to get us in different checks. I mean, there's so much they need to know. And, uh, and frankly, uh, the, you know, the online is as good as the quarterback, the receiver's line is as good as the quarterback, the offense is as good as the quarterback. And, and it's our responsibility to put guys in position, to maximize with their capable of maximizing. But their inability, uh, to notice that they need to spend extra time outside the allotted time, I think is critical.

And the amount that it takes, I guess that was maybe a little naive too. But, uh, the guys are doing a great job doing it. That's time for just a couple more coaches. Got a, uh, meeting, uh, Rob, all our Columbus Dispatch. Yeah, Brian, you get to reach the mount top. You got a banner out there, national champs. I think you keep these guys grounded. Being in the moment, looking ahead, not back. Are you tougher on it? Because, no, I think that, I mean, I think we have a lot of guys, you know, I think it's understanding that we were trying to build the map, to get to where you wanted to get to. But now that we have the map, doesn't mean we've traveled the path. So, like, we know what it looks like. The guys that are here know what it's supposed to look like. The guys that for us, say, I'm believe we'll example how to get to where you want to get to. So, the focus is on trying to, you know, replicate what they just did and how they operated. Can't say we've done that right now. So, it's very easy to stay motivating because they already know it's not good enough,

frankly. And so, uh, the last thing they want to do is put in a ton of effort and then not reach their goals. So, uh, motivation, I don't think is needed. I think there is a catching up of those and maybe aren't quite sure what it takes, you know, and but overall, um, motivation is not what we've needed. Clarity of message is definitely what we've been focused on. And, uh, I think the message is being received. So, um, not concerned about, you know, motivation and, and the, uh, looking back, if you will, I think everyone's pretty, pretty focused on being forward and knowing we haven't accomplished anything. So, Steve and me, please, please. Who would you say is the leader of your wide receiver room right now? I would say Cornell Tate, Brennan-Annis, uh, probably done the most, the most outspoken, you know, in the room. Uh, yeah, I would say they're doing a good job. Those are probably the two guys that would jump out my room. Yep. I mean, Brennan, he's been in trouble. Obviously, the Cornell taking on that role,

yeah, more and being more vocal. He's a good football player. Obviously, this thing is going to be different. That process for heaven, becoming a more vocal leader took you to say that on him. What was the question? Correct. Like, what do you think, like, the growth of the part of it? Uh, yeah, I mean, he's, I think he's pulled guys aside, you know, had one-on-one conversations with him. Uh, he's locked in, uh, you know, just, I think he saw the impact that I'm eccomade in the role he played. And to think that we're going to lose that and then be a better group, part doesn't mathematically make sense to him. So someone's got to step up in that role. And one, everyone respects him too. He knows he's capable of it. And it's just the desire and the appreciation, I think, to be at the older table now, the older head. And, uh, and appreciate the way I met, probably went about his business. And so, um, he probably valued that, appreciated that, uh, and he's just being assured we still have that. Final question. Bill Rebellt, what's the bonus this time? Could you assess the running back room? I think it's pretty much assumed both those running backs to CJ and, uh,

that James think that tandem system is probably the way you're going to go again. Um, how do you think it's working? How is it working? And you see third and maybe fourth guys up in the mirror? I think that, you know, in college football, uh, we're in a football, any football really, you got to have depth in running back room. I think that, um, very apparent in the NFL. It's usually a two back system, you know, very inferiorly. Is it one guy, uh, but in college, I think we saw the benefit of that last year, uh, the ability to compliment each other is really important. And the ability for us to identify what they do great and put them in good positions to be what they are. Uh, what's our best that I should say? Uh, it's really important as a coaching staff. It's been very impressed with, uh, even the younger guys, Sam and, and, uh, bow and the way they've come along, um, the consistency, so what you're chasing, right? You're always able to. That's why you're here, but how often you do it ultimately dictates how much you play. So, but, uh, overall, I think locksmen on them, they've understand the standard and, and past pro and, uh, not being a guy we got to sell them out because you can't pass protect.

So we were blessed. Well, especially with Trey last year and, and Quinchon. So, um, but no, these guys are done a good job. They're competing. Uh, they've been very coachable. Uh, you know, it's, it's, it's shown a blog on film. Um, but, uh, yeah, I mean, it's always hard on backs. I mean, every opportunity you get to go live and, and break tackles really gives you the most feedback on, on what these guys are capable of. If you're just playing tag out there, you never get any art. At least you shouldn't. Uh, but the running backs, um, you know, on contact days, it's done a good job. James has done a really good job growing, really excited about him. Everyone's really excited about him and CJ. Um, so, uh, you know, I think ultimately, how group the, uh, how will, uh, go with the group, be it is probably based on, you know, the top, the bottom rising, right? I mean, you're gonna have some guys at the top, but, you know, where's the floor? And so I think, uh, uh, uh, Bow and Sam has done a really good job and maybe some more guys to get healthy. Any more, more guys on campus, but, uh, very encouraged.

And you saw him improve and then, um, McLean, I think is a, is a great plus. I mean, he is a guy that has football intelligence. He's picked it up. Uh, you know, he's kind of one of those incoming freshmen who still should be in high school. He's a guy I think you're going to point to and you can see right now he's going to be a player. Over to the right, Austin Ward, the podcast. A healthy Mitchell Melton. How does he fit in for your defense? What does he bring to it? Yeah, he's, you know, Mitch is that combination player, you know, in, um, in our four down, um, you know, he's a guy that can do a lot of things, uh, drop fold in there and make plays. You, you see some of that all the time. Really athletic, um, you know, we're kind of loaded at that end position. So he's going to play there. But, you know, like I said last year and we, we haven't needed it, but he's a guy you would point to along with C.J. Hicks, you know, for the, for the long season.

People get injured, you get a little light inside. It's always hard on the defensive tackles. But if you're going to play with, uh, three ends, you know, that's Mitch, Mitch is a guy who definitely can do all that. He has that. Over to the left, Joey Kaufman, Columbus Dispatch. Jim, you've talked about this before, but I think in past years where you're going up against, uh, a really talented receiver group offense to encourage your players to, it's not okay if they give up to the play and to go nearly almost the first half. Today, where you, the offense didn't get in the end zone until the late in the second half. And you guys have guys down the second area. Just what, what did you think of that sort of trend and how it's evolved in the way you guys almost shut them out of the first half? Yeah, I think it's become, um, you know, an expectation now. You know, our DB's, you know, our BIA, best in America, we led the country in past defense. Right? I think it was 96 when I, uh, when I got here and it was number one last year.

So they've, they've taken that spirit. So it's a competitive spirit. It's an expectation now. It doesn't matter who we're going against. It's, it's, they view it as a standard. So that was good to see in the first, first half. Uh, over to the right Spencer Holbrook, Vladimir and Role. Jim, we've talked about safety changing the way that you play defense in the Leo and the linebackers. But how much does having the depth that you guys have at defensive tackle change the way that you can do things defensively? Yeah, I mean, you're going to play to your strengths, you know, and uh, that's, that's my job. This is to what do we have and what do we do best? And when you have defensive tackles, um, and I've said it before, it helped our defense so much last year, when you have defensive tackles that actually make tackles, which is what we have right now. It changes the way you call a game, you know, it certainly helps you be, um, in better shape on explosive plays on the back end, you don't have to do a whole lot to help those guys out

because they're making tackles. So you got to go, you got to go with that, you know, you got to let those guys play and, and, and they're good. So, um, you can't get too far away from the scheme of having those defensive tackles make place because they're doing it and it works. Uh, over to the left, Tony Gerberman, Buckeye Huddl. Jim Ryan talked about the quarterback run being more of a thing with the offense here during the season, how much of, when you're facing a team like that, how much does that impact your day to day throughout the week preparing for that? Yeah, it's a time, you know, it, I think it changes everything you do on defense. You see it everywhere from the NFL on down if you have a quarterback who can make plays with his feet, your scheme better be designed that, you know, to, to take that away into account for it. So it changes the way you look at everything when you're game planning. Thank you, Donovan. Uh, over here to the right, uh, Tim May, the Tim May podcast. Yeah, Jim, you might be wondering when I asked, uh, Ryan about just, for example, Calvin Simpson Hunt, but the, uh, corner scene did be playing almost with the chip owner, shoulder to a certain

xtanami. Davis and Nick Benosin took the day personally. It looked like, uh, you know what I mean? Cause some of the hype going into the game, but then what, what do you see from that group in particular of who is you going into this offseason? Yeah, when you can, when you have corners that you can count on, again, it's just like having defensive tackles in the run game. When you have corners, you can count on that are going to compete all the time, no matter what the situation is. And we've developed that again, it changes the way you call the entire game. I mean, you, you're able to leave those guys on an island. You're able to switch out converges and they know what they're doing and they take great pride in it. So, um, having those guys out there in the development, it's a big deal. It really is. And it's not just the picture of the board. I just gave it like that. Yeah, I mean, he's, he did come in late and, you know, um, he compete, he's one of those guys that just competes every day, doesn't say much, you know, he's trying to live up to the standard

or the other guys and you, you see him coming along, you know, you see him step by step coming along and, and, you know, put him in a, you know, competitive atmosphere, seeing him step up, that's a great sign. And final question for coach Knowles, Dan Hope, 11 Warriors. You mentioned CJ Hicks a few minutes ago. Have you seen him take the strides you need to see the spring to trust him as a guy who could be a potential starter on his defense? Yes, I mean, uh, I think CJ has shown that, uh, he has talent and, uh, I think it's my job to put him in the best situations for him because he can be a force, um, you know, he's much better when he's bloodsaying or he's directed because he's able to use his athletic ability, but he has certainly shown that he's going to be able to help this defense. Coach, thank you very much for your time. All right, and we will bring, uh, offensive coordinator and quarterback's coach Chip Kelly to the

podium now. We'll open up the questions over to the left Bill Rebinovitz Columbus dispatch. Hey Chip, um, what are your just general impressions of the offense coming out of spring, especially quarterback? We'll look at all 15. So I think, you know, uh, this day is a big part of it, you know, because it was the first time they were going to play, some of those guys that were going to play in front of a crowd. And it was an amazing crowd. You know, you get 80,000 for spring game. Now, you could see some of the young guys kind of looking around like, wow, this is different than the indoor, um, but that's what they have to get ready to play it. So, um, we got better from practice one to practice 15, you know, it's still an evaluation through the whole process, but um, it's not something in the players bill to the, we're not making a decision, walking off the field today saying, hey, this is the direction that we're going in. We'll, we'll be very authentic and look through everything and make sure that we get a really good feel for what it all looks like and then who will best move this offense. That's, that's what our decision's going to do. I do. I think we got a lot of guys there. Um, that part's tough. I think because you

got, you, there's guys that deserve reps, you know, and they're all competing for it. So, you know, sometimes you'd like to be sometimes when you had a guy who was an initial starter, well, he's going to get the bulk of the reps to get them better, but, um, they capitalize on, we really rolled them, you know, if you were at some of our screen practices, you're watching all those guys rotate in, rotate out. Um, and as we talk about all the time, you know, the old adage is, is don't count your reps, make your reps count, you know, and we'll put it all together and really come up with, you know, which guy do we really feel is going to make, going to help us move this offensively. Over to the far right, Bill Landis, the podcast, Kings of the North. Hey, Chip, um, you said when we first talked to you that the, the basis of a lot of your success running the football is just kind of figuring out what your guys do best and then needing into that over 15 practices now, how good of a field do you think you have for that? And then what are the next few months look like as you try to piece that all together? A really good question. Um, it's, it's interesting because the one thing that I think sometimes makes it tough and an evaluation is what a good front we want to get. Um, you know, so for 15 practices, those guys on the other side of the ball were pain, you know,

Jack and JT and Ty Lee can those guys, but I know come fall. There's not going to be anybody more happy that we have those guys on the defensive side of the ball because of what they can do. So, I still think we'll have to really evaluate that. What we're going to, what we're not, what we got to get better on, what we got to work on. But I think the work we got against such a quality defense was, uh, was really key for us. Uh, over to the far left, Nathan Baird, Cleveland.com. So, a year ago at this time, um, it came out of the spring with still a lot of question marks about the offensive line. Um, and even I guess that last season came out with question marks. How have you seen that progress in the time that you've been here and what's your confidence level that that offensive line is going to allow this offense to do everything it wants to do this fall? Yeah, I mean, I've been here short amount of time. So I didn't know. I really don't have anything to compare to. So I kind of tab you the rassa, come in with a blank slate and just observe it. I think we're really athletic. Um, I think Donnie and, and, and Seth and those guys inside are really smart and really intelligent. Um, they allow you to, to be able to make adjustments in game. Um, just

tucking football with some of those guys. It's like, well, this, these guys are wired the right way. And a lot of those guys have played a lot of football. So, um, they can bank on their experience. There, you know, I think we, we've got about four guys that have played significant amount of snaps and we got to make sure we can find out who the fifth guy is. Um, but that's similar to where the quarterback spot is. I think, and I also think in the offensive line, you, you're not going to play a 16-17 game season and just play with five guys. You know, you really have to develop your depth there. Um, there's going to be a number two center that's going to play a lot of football. It's going to be a number two guard, whether it's on either side of the ball, there's going to be a third tackle. I think you, you're going to get tested, especially with this new, in this new playoff format, you really have to think that way. So, you know, you're not looking for five starters. You're really looking for 10 starters because you're going to have to, you're going to have to probably play 10 guys to get when you get through a 16-17 game season. Over to the right Austin Ward, the podcast. Chip, I think it was the first play of the game, the T-Formation and then the reverse, I don't know, spin move with Will Howard. Yeah. Understand what's the inspiration for that package and that sort of, uh, rink of what the quarterback. Mr. Hayes. Do you have, uh, there's a looming figure

around this whole program, you know, we get to go to work every day and then Woody Hayes athletic center. So, um, it was good enough for Woody. We're going to stay with him. We're going to do it. We ran some last year. I think we took 21 snaps at UCLA and T- got a short yardage formation for us and we've done some different things with it. But, um, I also, I think our players had a lot of fun, you know, practicing that and doing some different things. So, um, it's a small part of our offense, you know, we will not be in the T 21 times in one game, but, you know, we may get it in some short yardage situations. And I think it's come back. There's a lot of schools right now that are starting to do that. You know, it's really just you're trying to, you know, you got to have a yard to get, you know, you're trying to get your big guys in the game. And I think we use three tight ends and two running backs in our formation today with Packard being the, the fullback in that situation. So, um, there's a lot of different things you can do in short yardage, but, um, a little bit of a tribute to Coach Hayes and what he means in this program. Joey Kaufman, Columbus Dispatch, over to the left. Chip, did you look back? Now, you've been

here two months, 15 spring practices. There's something you feel best about what you've been able to accomplish with this offense? Well, I haven't accomplished anything because I didn't take a snap, but, I think the most impressive thing since I've been here is how close close this football team is. You know, some programs talk about a brotherhood. This is really a brotherhood. Our practices, as we talked about, how good our defense is, they're highly competitive, but they're not combative. And those guys really work very, very well together, both the old line and the D line, the secondary and the receivers. The competition is the, but it's got to be the best there is in the country, you know, and that makes you better. But I think sometimes competition, you know, guys can lash out and it gets really combative. And then all of a sudden, the fight breaks out and the fight breaks out and we're trying to accomplish and get footballed on. But I think the way these guys cooperating work together as a group is a special bond. And I think you're going to need the closest team and the most connected teams on the ones that win. Over to the right here, Andy Baxter, Letterman Rol. Chip, obviously there's been a lot of talk about Jeremiah, but Amecha is the big return in this group. He kind of reminded everyone what he can do today. What's

it been like working with him and what kind of weapon can he be for you guys? Good point. And Amecha has reminded me and the other 14 practice sessions of what he can do, special player, you know, and J.J.'s are really talented player also. But, you know, I think, I think all of the whole group, like Cornell Takedid, some really good things watching him this spring. And for all of them, you know, I mentioned it with the elephant spline. I came in with a blank slate and I had no opinions formed, not that really just wide-eyed and just observant, but, you know, that, I think that wide-receiving is really special. And I think there's a bunch of guys in there. And again, you have to play multiple games after the regular season is over. You're going to make sure you're going to need depth like that. And the fact that it's, you feel a little bit comfortable right now, that we got some guys there that can make some plays in the perimeter. And that really dictates how people are going to defend you, you know. So, you got a couple of really good running back, you know. So, are they going to load the box? Are you really going to load the box and leave those guys in one on one coverage? Well, then it's the quarterback's responsibility to decipher that and get the ball to those guys. So, or do they at least a double coverage?

They list a double coverage. And now it's a little bit lighter box and you can run the ball. So, having too many weapons is a good problem to have. Second roll-f, Pat Murphy, 24-7 sports. Chip, we've talked a lot about kind of the quarterbacks maybe vying for the starting spot. But some of the younger guys, what have you seen from them? We got an opportunity to see more of them today than we probably have. What's your assessment of them as they kind of get in this? I always am so impressed with young guys that enroll early in watching how they get acclimated in what they do. You know, when you look at Julian and Aaron and JJ, you know, they should be in the hot lunch line of their high school. And they're out here playing in front of 80,000 people. And they've really progressed when you watch them in meetings and listen to them and they interpret, you know, so basically the whole concept here is we throw them in the deep end and see if they can swim. You know, this, we didn't baby anything. We don't put the in-sell in with, hey, you guys are in, we're in install. This is with the older players. And then you guys, you know, go set at

the kitty table and we're just going to do the really simple things with you. You know, they get it all and the more they can digest, the more when you're in a room, when you're checking for understanding and asking questions. And they can spit back to you the more confidence you have when they get in there with the plays that you can call for them. So those guys have been impressive. They're still learning, you know, they were the, the guys today that were kind of looking around and saying, while there's like 80,000 people here, along with the offensive coordinator and the quarterback coach, because I was kind of looking around because I had actually never been in the stadium until yesterday when we had our 14th practice in there. So I played Ohio State once when I was at Oregon, but that was in the Rose Bulls High. I'd never been actually in the stadium until yesterday. So I caught myself when I went into the stadium today looking around saying 80,000 for spring game. That's impressive. Got time for just a few more folks over here to the right Dylan Davis Delaware Gazette. Given what you just said about throwing them into the deep end, what stood out the most to you about Julian's progression through 15 practices and where he is that you guys head out of spring? Julian is a very fast processor. You know, he really thanks very, very quickly on his feet.

He makes really quick decisions. He doesn't stick on and read. He can progress in any season. It's really well for a young player. You know, in not having been exposed to a lot of college defenses and especially what Jim does. Jim can make a young freshman quarterback cry with some of the stuff he does. But you know, I never saw that with Jules and I, that's been in press of his ability to retain and, you know, him and JJ, the compliment I would say to him is if you got here and you didn't know what class they were in, you wouldn't say that those guys were freshmen in terms of how they've picked things up and, you know, sometimes freshmen act like freshmen. But the guys who are special, they don't act like freshmen. They act like football players and those are two guys that are examples of that. Far left. Cameron T. Robinson, the athletic chip. On the topic of freshmen, James Peoples and Sam got on the second half. You talk about how deep you need to be in this era of college football. But as you search for RB3, what did you see from them

today and what is their growth been like in this spring? Yeah, James really flashed early for me, not knowing again, kind of, let's just take, don't worry about what the background is, where they're from, who they are. The this guy of this stars, this guy of that stars, they're all bakai. Sometimes there's how they do it. I think James has got really good field and vision. He can hit things. I thought Sam did some really good things today. T.C. is another guy who really came along during the spring and worked constantly talking in our staff meetings about depth. We're very cognizant of the fact that the playoff situation has changed. So you have to develop that depth, you know, used to be maybe have a parent of spare is what everybody says. But I think you may have to have more than that. You know, you're talking about 16, 17 games. You're really going to be tested that way. So I was really happy with how those young guys have come along here in the 15 training sessions that we've had. Oh, over here to the right, Tim May, the Tim May podcast. Thank you, Jerry. You have your own podcast? Yeah. Like these guys all had like a name next to

their. Yeah, you're right. Show. Okay. That's pretty cool. He must have some juice if you got, you had your name in your podcast. Definitely. By the way, I like it. It's not just the lunch last, the hot lunch last. It's a hot lunch line. Yeah. Just two quickies. Number one, do you feel compelled to let these quarterbacks know where they stand? You know, it's coming up Tuesday, you know, to me, they're, yeah, you know, where does that go? I mean, in your mind. Yeah, we're all sit down as a staff and visit meet on it and then nine. I mean, he does an unbelievable job of, I think, all our players understand where they fit in what the picture is and we'll give him our assessment. This isn't, you know, we're not going to come back and, but we do it after every day. They know where they stood after practice. One, after two, after three, after four, we grade everything. They're getting constant feedback in terms of where we are. And then after 15, which we had today, but, but we can't do it unless you watch the film and can can really look at the things because you may see something, but you're on the sideline. You know, why did he make that decision? Well, I couldn't really see the field safety from

where he was. Okay, now I understand why you made that decision. So, you know, but they'll, we'll have meetings with all our players and that's, that's always been the method. So this week during, you know, between one day through Friday, we're all scheduled. No one's going on the road recruiting until after that, but we're all a player meeting. He said every position, you know, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker safety is everybody. Everybody's going to sit down with their position coaches and know where they fit and when we see them. But do you feel a pressure with the, with the transfer portal looming? I mean, you've been a head coach for a long time. I mean, is that on your mind at TSD? Yeah, I think all four of you are aware of it. I'm 100%. And I don't think it's pressure, but I think you just open lines of communication and everybody knows, you know, which, what your evaluation was through the training sessions that we have. Guys, we've got to have, we got real quick. Last two questions, Dan Hope and then Rob Aller. Feel like you need to have a starting quarterback named by and whatever the biggest things you're going to be looking for between now and then and determining who that guy's going to be. Well, between now and whatever, then is we're not allowed as coaches to go back out

and practice with him, you know, in college football, you get 15 training sessions in the, in the off season. And then they'll go back to work and with Mick in the weight room and getting bigger, getting faster, getting stronger. They'll have organized activities themselves. And they do a really good job at that. But once there's a football out, like we're not allowed to be there to evaluate and even assess. So they're really from a football standpoint on their own until August. So you always want to do it earlier. But I also believe every time I've been involved in this is that it kind of happens organically and authentically, you know, because the players know. And if you say, we decided we're going to be with Joe and they all think it's Tim, you know, they're in the locker room with him every day. Players understand, you know, who they'd feel is the guy. And most of the time, the decision is very obvious, you know, when you just say, this is where we are with it, you know. But there's that timetable thing. I don't, I can't give you an

exact timetable in that. So Rob, Chip, you talk about Julian, but typically in your experience, you've done it again, like Tim said a long time, how long does it take for the game to slow down for a young QB? I think it depends on the individual. You know, I've had some kids where early, you know, you were like, wow, Marcus Murray, I always like that. Remember vividly, second practice. And he got to the fifth reading, the progression, and threw it out here in his big game. And I asked him, why I do it all. I asked why, because I just want to understand it. And I said, why did you do that? And he goes, I don't know what we call that defense, but there was like a lot of guys over there. And they didn't seem like there was anybody over there. But for him to process it that way, he was right. And he came back the other day, whether that was cover 60 other day coach, I learned what you guys call the coverages. But it all happens differently. I've got guys that for two years, seem like they're just, you know, they're really struggling. And then the light bulb goes off and you know, whoa, like they got it. So everybody has different learning styles. You know, our job

and the evaluation process is to identify those learning styles. So, you know, they cognitively learn, they an auditory learner, you know, do they learn by field? Is it more a field guy, you know, a more film guy, you know, it's all different. And I think we have to keep poking and prodding. And for us as coaches, that's the challenge too is what is their best learning style and how can we convey it? Because education basically is just a transportation knowledge. But it really doesn't matter what I know or what Ryan knows, it matters what they know. So that's always kind of what we're working on and studying and thinking about and kind of where we are and how much can they handle. And then how much is too much, you know, because this may be a great play. I agree 100%. But if he doesn't feel it's a good play, then why is it in, you know, I mean, and that's, that's this whole feeling of process that we're all, they're learning awesome, we're learning them. So, I have identities. So do coaches really? Running quarterbacks. Is that something you've always sort of lean toward or is it year by year case by case? What advantages do you like about?

Because all your guys can run a little bit. Yeah, I think a running quarterback causes problems for defense. So when when plays break down, the unscheduled plays, you know, if you just go back to the recent Super Bowl, on that last drive, the two big plays were my home's run. The patch of my home is another runner. Andy's not calling design quarterback runs for Pat. But when the defense matches up and plays two men and turns their back to the quarterback, well, maybe the best decision is to take off. You know, the second one he took out, I'm like, he may score. You know, a lot of guys go and they want a hook side, you know, and and there's times where you have to understand if you do have a running quarterback, we talk about the best availability, the best ability is availability. You know, you're not lowering your children, taking people on, but we are always looking for quarterbacks that have the ability to run. We're not looking for running backs that can throw, you know. So you're not going to see us 20 times a game, we're running the quarterback. There are people that run offensive styles and are really successful with it. But with this group we have right now, that's not. Now they can hurt

you with a feat. We'll did it when he was at case eight, you know, obviously Devon took off a couple of times today, air took off a couple of times today. Lincoln's a really, really good athlete. Julian can run, but you know, we're not calling design quarterback runs, you know, you're not going to see, you know, a tremendous reminder of respect for coach Hayes and the legacy that he left here. The straight T is about as far as we go, we are not going single wing. So we are not going to snap and run quarterback ice on quarterback power. So, but it is a, it's another weapon, you know, and if it also keeps defense as honest, you know, if your defensive and is going to continue to bend from the quarterback, pulls it, he's on the edge and he's gaining first downs. Well then the defensive and has to stay outside and contain the quarterback. Well, then we can run the ball up and hand the ball off. Sometimes in our running game, our quarterback really is a blocker. He's responsible for a defender. If the defender was cheating and fitting it on the run, well then his responsibility is to make make the defense be honest. And that's really air did that a couple of times today. Now we had a block that safety was sticking its face in there. So we took off around the edge. What happens in next play,

the defense is wider. Then what do we get to do? We get a chance to hand the ball off to the running man. Great coach. Thank you so much for your time and thank you for being a buck eye. All right. Thanks. It was definitely addressed here, you know, this pretty seizing. I think Austin Saradol stepped up in a big way, you know, with the Danya being out. And then, you know, Carson can play World Guard in center, which is good. And you know, we've actually, you know, San has done a nice job as well. But it was good to see Austin, you know, he moved from guard, attack a couple times. And even with the ones he was in there battling his tail off. So I think we have built some depth there. But again, you know, we got to go play some games and see what Rob all right. What's the main thing you want to see out of here? Yeah, you know, again, whether it's whatever happened last year or last year, but I know that the message to our to our offensive line is we want to play one of the hardest playing offensive line in the country. Now, we got to play with technique. But at the end of the play, like knock the line of screaming back and play with your hair on fire as hard as you possibly can. There's a lot

that goes with the playing of the offensive lines. All the communication is a lot of things that have to get into place. I think chef has done a nice job of communicating and understands the offense better now and takes control up front and brings everybody together, which is great. But to me, like that's it. Now, we could list a bunch of other things, but to me, we've got to move the line of screaming. We've got to be just playing with our hair on fire and knocking people back and playing physical. And that's the start to game. That's the end of the game. No, no, I don't see it that way at all. I think, you know, we'll see what we got this year, but I feel like, you know, we've got some really good young players in the system. I think that, you know, we should have the best offensive line in the country. That's that's the standard here. Has been for a long time. And, you know, and so we'll keep pushing towards that this year. And, you know, I think, you know, everybody in that room will play the same thing.

So, Sonny has really stepped up and played well. He's made this transition from safety to linebacker very well. I think he did a nice job in the spring, but you could definitely see as he went into the summer, just, you know, bigger, stronger, being more comfortable closer to the line of screaming. It's different when you're closer to the line of screaming. He's doing a better job getting his hands on, you know, on offense alignment and getting off of blocks, using a better job, doing a better job with his hands. I think he understands the communication. But the linebackers always have to be involved at the front. They can be involved and fit it to the back end. He's doing that. You know, I think he's, you know, looking forward to play, playing in a game and, you know, getting an idea of what it all looks like. But I can tell you in practice, he's playing fast, he's playing violent. And I think he's, you know, he does a nice job of taking the meeting to the field, being very intentional about his work, but playing really hard. Yeah, I haven't talked to Jim because, you know, we'll make that final decision here over the weekend,

but he's certainly leader in the club. Can you tell Ryan? I mean, Seth McLaughlin, can tell he's been there, done that. Is he, is he projected that to the offensive line? You're still, and I'm saying, for the leadership, Stan, a grown man. How does that just come up? How does it show up? A bunch of ways. It just poised. It's not getting rattled when, you know, coach parks at you. It's, you know, okay, I got this. Let me get it under control. It's seeing something in practice and being able to adjust on the move. It's being prepared when you walk on the field. It's recognizing how hard you have to play at the position. It's, you know, kind of all of those things in the one, but he's got great communication up front. He talks to the guys. He's moving quickly in there. And when you have experience like he has, you know, the game seems to slow down at times. Yet he seems to be playing it off at a fast level.

It was a point where you got a black stripe off and I feel like you took a step in the right direction. When you come in in the summer, it is very difficult to get on the field, especially early in the season. Whether he does or not, I will see. But if he continues to practice, the way that he's been practicing, then he'll give himself a chance to be in the rotation midway through the season or later in the season, which is similar to some of the wider series he had before. You know, you've seen some of those guys get some reps early in the season that they make an impact later in the season. I think that's probably more his path right now. Now, you know, shows up and starts doing great. And, you know, we'll, you know, we'll give him the reps he deserves. Or like Jeremiah is in a different situation because he came in here in January. And he was a little bit ahead. Anybody who comes in and January to me, I don't look at them as a freshman anymore. They've been here. They're in the program. And we expect them to continue.

I'm just really so standing behind here. He's still in there right there. I'm talking and communicating. But in the skirmishes we've had, it's been offense for his defense. So I've mostly been on the offensive side still kind of going through all those types of things. And there's a lot to work through this year just with the play talk. And then what I mean by that is, you know, the close by communication inside of 15 goes off. There's a lot of things that go on there. We don't really get notification on that. So I'm trying to, you know, just help chip with that and some communication that a person out. But I'm very much involved with special teams. I think with a two minute warning, there's some strategic things that are going to go on again and again and again. And I'd really be involved with. But to your point, just overall, just looking guys in the eye and making sure that, you know, they have to right look in their eye, you know, that, you know, they understand, you know, with the situation, what's going on

in the game, you know, I think that happens sometimes with other players, you know, they're just like playing the next play. And that's not just how it works. We'll get to win the situations. And so all those things will come into play and make an in-game adjustments, you know, be involved with all three phases, you know, watching the game and the tab with the try to identify what happened in the last series. I think all those things will be happening. Right now, Nick is going to be the starter. And, you know, that competition will go into next week. But right now, as we head into the weekend, he is the starter and playing us right. It's the first time to go up and go on Saturday against Acher. He's got a strong leg. He's made it a good transition into the country, but also just playing football and not Australian football, which is very, very different. The snap to kick

is really improved. You know, that was one thing. He's a taller guy. So the ball has to get out of his hip faster. I think he's done that. His time time has been good and he's been more consistent. You'll see, you know, he'll kick a few, but I'll just go right out of the stadium and then you just have a strong, strong leg. So we're looking for that consistency. He's shown that here most recently. So he's got the upper hand right now. And last question, do you heard of him? Well, Brian, I don't know if it's because Will maybe took a little bit longer to make a decision in December of them. Some of the other top of the line quarterback who was here, or because maybe there was a thought he wasn't going to be the starter against the state this year. But it seems like people have viewed him kind of as a game manager type of quarterback. After eight months with them, where do you see his ceiling? What is Will's special faith to you? Where do you see him taking something? I see a bunch of traits there. I think the first trait of size is big. He can stand in the pocket and he's strong. So I mean, that's the first thing to notice about him.

Again, whether it's standing in the pocket with boys, I think that's another trait that he has, that's excellent. He feels the rush, but he stands right in there. I think the next trait is just, you know, his top end speed. We can run 22 miles an hour at that size, which there's not a lot of guys who can do that. So I think that's the extraordinary trait. And I would say his overall leadership, commands, and the huddle is another, you know, something that he's really, you know, grown into in the last few months when he's been here. And then his accuracy, he's been very accurate since he's been here. And when he knows what's going on and he can anticipate what's happening, I mean, it looks right. He just feel it. And he can hurt you, you know, a bunch of different ways. So, you know, his ceiling, that's that's that's going to be kind of, you know, up to how he plays his season, but, you know, I see a player who has a lot of great skills that, you know, translates well to the next level. So we'll see. But I know his first focus is on winning games around here.

So, thank you very much. I mean, you have nerves naturally. So that's the first complaint I was good. I was rolling. It was also a weird thing. Yeah. Um, you, yeah, it's, but like, I prepared well and camp and practice all week. And I was, I was ready. Um, yeah, I have two multi-year starters. I did a lot. I mean, I couldn't ask them, hey, what we got here, but I was prepared well. I mean, I was telling Jimmy and said, it's like, I'll be emotional. What's the guy from Ohio? What does it mean? At the start of the game? Um, it was always my dream to come here and play and start and having that like, mean, I just

gotta keep going, keep building those days, keep building. What a much younger Austin, no, not, I don't think even I told him like, I asked him, yeah, younger self, even committed, I wouldn't believe that now having a couple of starts. Yeah. Awesome. Has this happened faster than you? I guess you're technically a softball player. No, I knew that year two, I was going to see you some playing time. Now starting week one, year two, I didn't see that, but like I was ready in spring ball, like I knew I was going, I was going to play some softball players. What does it mean to you to, it's not only get the opportunities to play, but it's like you play well enough now, coaching staff trust you, you're about there, whatever the situation is, but that aren't that so early on in your career. I guess it shows like my preparation, my hard work, and just everything I put into this,

and I just finally showed up on a field. There are moments, the soft season, the end of the spring, and the end of the camp, but I don't realize that you could play at this high level, high up with the ones, you know, if you knew you did. Yeah, the definitely was in training camp. I mean, blocking highly can tie every day, but like it feels, it feels a lot of confidence and doing it well and not like getting balled or anything. There's defensive tag wasn't that was the guy that you did in this spring. Hero in Jason Moore in Taiwan, all those guys, pretty much anyone on the deepened line gets your face all the time, so, and Kay and Mack as well, so. Yeah, I also used to put a lot of my heart to work with how about the stability, that was really good in the line. How much can he help you in the game? He helped me a lot, and I'm proud that he's our starting center, not so much else, but I mean, he's like the captain of the line. He's another voice on the line with guys like Josh Fryer,

Josh Simmons, Donnie and Tiger, that means another voice and another captain on the way, so having that, and it's much experience helped. A lot, he can tell you, like before the play was going on, like how to block someone, like what you need to do, and it helps a lot. Tiger is talking about how calm he is, how much does that benefit of you? You have a guy who's kind of been there and seen him a lot. It makes us more calm, especially me and Kay, those are first started, so we were up here with Seth, he brought us down, we were like five, our emotions weren't high, we settled in, is that something he tells you, is that something you can pick up on by how he's acting, how do you kind of sense what he's trying to do? How he's acting, and what I mean, him, when we're on the side of him, both Josh, Donnie, like he was telling us, like hey, we're cool, like we got him, but it's pretty much like everyone, old cool group. How much do you do that? As a first time starter, how much did you add in that?

Me a lot, that was my first time ever using iPads, we didn't use the iPads in high school, but you can say like try to remember the defense, you can just come on the side and bring up what's playing to help us really much. Probably the first or second, but after that, I thought we'd say all right. Great, awesome, thank you very much. That's a blind fight, really. That's you can, are part of the settle again to go? That's um, I want to say maybe, I don't know, but I mean, when I first heard you got the job, I was really excited because I'm one of those guys who's the tempo, I can run with the tempo, you know what I mean? I'm playing basketball all I can settle football and I feel like just the fast pace often, so we're running, really fits the guys we have right now. I'm really excited for that. I know you can throw a football, 65 guys, but can you kick a football, 75 yards of weight? Probably question. Lincoln, what's your question? How is your room, man?

He's a blessing, man, I can't your playing. He's a great guy. His name's Lincoln. Teen Homes. Ooh, he's cleaner. I think we're both really clean, that's why we kind of picked each other's roomies because we're very clean and we don't like our rooms really messy. Well it's true though, it's true, it's a lot pretty clean so. Luke, are you still a cross-training attack or a bullsom or if you just been off guard this spring? Ah, so far I've been all guard. I really don't know, like I said, I'm taking the practice, I practice. I can't end up being back attack like that and not, but you know I'm just really focused in on this past practice and the next thing. That mean a lot. You know you put a lot of work in to play here and it's been a dream just for being in Ohio kidnism from a Ohio kid's perspective. I mean that's the biggest swish possible, I would say. That's going to be pretty cool. What was it like to slice your first game getting on the field for the first time?

It didn't like, this is going to be a weird answer but it I feel like I was playing a game with that made sense. I was pretty locked in, I felt like just no anxiousness, no stress, no nothing really. I just went in that first game and was like, shoot I'm here now, it's time to roll. You know, it didn't really hit me. I was like, it didn't even hit me after, like I want to be like, what would you feel doing? It's like getting out there at the end of it, I'm just like honestly, I don't know. I felt less nervous that then I just go and make some no sense. I mean, I'm learning from Josh Aniston, I think, Friar, who is one of my biggest role models here, who is my big brother, when I first made it. Tell him about Padilla? I don't know, I think. Padilla, okay. Yeah, no. Yeah, yeah. So yeah, Padilla, Aniston, those are my guys, man. I mean, even Miles too, I mean, all three of them, those are my roommates and they're progressing every day as well and I'm excited to see where they can get to and I'm excited to play on the field with them. Oh yeah, he's been really helpful. You know, just keep in my mind just settled and straightforward on the next play.

That's a great question. Like I said, I mean, I just need to take consistent in my work, I think. That's the biggest thing for me is just, ain't consistent. I'm worried about the next play. Absolutely, I mean, when you see defensive, when you see defensive start arguing with each other and things like that, I mean, that makes me a lot easier, you know, have those 10-11 play drops.
