I'm not sure if it's going to be a good time to do it. I'm sure it's going to be a good time to do it. I'm sure it's going to be a good time to do it. I'm trying to do it. This year is kind of different because I'm close to the ball. It kind of feels the same. I think I like being able to play. I like tying the things up and doing a bit of wrongful speed. I'm able to hit somebody and catch them off guard. I'm just what I'm able to do now. I'm close to them. Somebody who's got to talk to you about this kind of stuff. We haven't really talked about a few guys. He's talking about what it is. I don't have the strength to work with him. My junior year at the opening. But I was different because I was playing off guard.

Yeah, that's the one we got. They know what Smith will do. Let's hear the way that he coaches. I mean, he doesn't give a lot. This is as to what his style is. It's very intentional, but he knows that we're human. So he knows nobody's going to be perfect. It's okay to mess up, but the thing is being able to learn from that mistake and not do it again. How different is this? How different is your future? What's your future? It's different. It's different, but like I said, I've just been enjoying the ride. I like riding on that. So I'm just going to grow at this fight and get to where I want to go. I'm going to get to that with the process. 100%. 100%. No, we're very hard. Even if you just look at our 2020 hoop class, we get a lot of guys. And now we probably only have like five or six guys here. Exactly. So being able to just stick it through and just, you know, I feel like me staying here.

Each year, I feel like I was telling this thing. Because yeah, it was opportunity to transfer, but I just kept feeling like God just stay. I'm going to be dangerous. Let his will, you know. I do work for you like when you know you may not make him his position change. You know, I try to every little drill that we do. I try to make sure I'm doing it to the team, you know, I don't like to mess up. And that's why you see me after practice working with Coach Johnson or Coach Patricia. Because of the fact, I know it's very urgent, but I still feel like I have time. I was on the screen. You have 158 days probably to be able to touch you. You've been there throughout December, obviously. What exactly did you start to make that transition though? And you heard they were hiring an operator at the point of quarter. You were having a few. Um, obviously in December, it was different because we had Coach Nolis here. And Coach Nolis was somewhat, he was telling me different ways he was going to use me with the Jagged

and where he was going to have me line up and things like that. Coach Day, what he was telling me was, we were going to bring in different coach and just, you know, there'll just be a specific coach just sort of position I was playing. That way it could just be easier on everybody. And that probably was just going to be Coach Nolis because obviously it's his defense. But with Coach Patricia coming in, I feel like it's a lot easier on everybody because of the fact, like I said, his experience and everything that we're doing now, it just feels like everybody can just play fast. You can just be themselves. When you heard 158 days, what was you know that? We talk about it every day. Yeah, Coach Day brings it up every day because of the fact we got to, like, yeah, we have one good day today. But we do have to stack day on top of day on top of day because of the fact that we played sexy. The Texans are just in the playoffs, you know, they're not on slouch either. They're probably in the same mindset as we are right now because they lost a lot of starters, but it still doesn't mean. I mean, you see guys like a part of some of the little part of their career playing back with the edge.

How much does that inspire you to see what kind of success that you guys have? No, I feel like watching those guys, I feel like you can see like it helped them in the warmer, especially with the blue, especially with the blue, especially with the blue last year because of the fact it was his first year on a lot of scrimmage. No, obviously I watched those guys, I watched other guys, but I'm on the way. I really plan as much, so I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt. So I can bring younger guys with me because I've been through a lot of it. One of those younger guys, we're seeing it on here. It's the first time I've heard all these last years. What have you seen from Lill? Because I've kind of felt like I should have real forgot about it because he was hurt. Now how he's running, you know, almost a second man, how have you tied? What have you seen in the next two games, right? Well, as a workhorse, he's going to stay quiet, he's going to work hard, and that's what I love about him. He focuses, he don't really talk much. He's going to get the job done, do a job right, really has any mistakes. What would be a successful season?

A national championship? I'm running when all the games we don't want to lose anything. We got a mindset that we can't beat, and we just got to go show it. That mindset different. It seems like you guys expect a national championship every year. This year even more so, you guys have all come back for this. You guys have all decided like enough as a month. Does that keep you feeling different? Or is there not really any difference? It's just the same work. It's definitely a difference. Everyone working harder. We noticed our last run. Most of us don't have any years after this, so we got to go bigger, go home, and we're not trying to go home. So it's finished big. We know what you guys think of Michigan, but when you look at what they did, they won the national championship. And you guys took them down to the final minute, right? You know what I mean? You were right there. Something goes a little different. You guys could have won that game against them. Does that tell you anything about like that, hey, you guys want to win a national championship, but you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year, like you're that close.

That's how I'm saying, we just like work harder. That's kind of a coach makes a saying, you know, nobody cares, just work harder. Like those, you know, one plate Georgia is the same thing. Last play, you know, they went on the win in 90s. So we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine. How frustrating is that? You're that close against the last two national titles? Of course it is, you know, it's frustrating. But you can't change the outcome. You can't really dwell on it. You just got to, you know, come back and work harder. Do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change. Is that as you get older, you kind of learn. I thought I was working hard, but then you always find out there's a little more than you could have been doing. Yeah, definitely. I mean, that's how that's what growing up is basically in college. I thought freshman year I was working as hard as I could, but now I look back at it. I really wasn't working hard at all compared to what I'm doing now. So just to learn anything. What do you need it to be to be your best? Uh, it is at 75.

80, 85. I mean, I can, it's all on me. I just, I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny, but I mean, it's all on me. I just got to run harder in shape. It's been a thing. The idea of the potential is 16 and 17 and 17. I think I think I think we, I definitely can last. I was just, you know, we got to get the young guys to come along with us. We can't play 50 snaps again. That's just too much on our bodies. Just everybody like online, D line. We got to get those younger guys to play, you know, get that pieces on the D line and all line and everywhere else so we can last at the long run. Speaking of the life plan, you like playing that new snap to game last year because I don't know. I don't know if any of us were really expected to play that next time. Uh, yeah, I did. Unless we were like winning by like a lot. Uh, I thought like there are no moments you know I can go sit down or something,

but we're playing them big games like, you know, Notre Dame, two or North, those kind of games. Of course I want to be because I know I can contribute and I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done. What stands out about Kaden McDonald is he got the key. Have you guys a little second here? Oh yeah, definitely. K-Mac is a K-Mac animal. Y'all, you haven't really seen it yet, but in practice he shows all the time. He's just, he's growing right now. He has to work ethic. He just has to get, you know, into playbook and things like that. You guys are about the exact same size. Listen, you're both listening to 6th or you're 327, he's 326. Yeah, I kind of look at him like my junior, but you know K-Mac, he's going to be a great player. He's just got to develop more and get into playbook. So really a lot on you older guys. There's that large group of young guys and then there's these seniors in the back. Is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys along as well? Yeah, definitely. We got to be leaders. Like I said, we got to have them play this year. We can't just play all the snaps. They got to get in there and get some work. And we got to get them right, learn all season so they can play.

And not just play, they want to like contribute, like make plays, tackle sex. It seems like these guys get bigger. Each one of the freshmen class is looking bigger and bigger. Do those guys kind of, those are going to kind of while you're in the cell in the first? Yeah, they're definitely some big dudes. And they all work hard. I've only seen much of some of the day too when I'm not passing on. But throughout the workouts, they've been working hard, you know, they're determined. And it looks like they're ready to work with me. How important this notes feels like. There's a lot of great defenses that you have big athletic defensive tactics who could eat up space, but also move, you know, right? That is that. Does that have an environment maybe for great defense to have guys like you that have some balls, but also a great team? I think that is definitely. I think if you look at the last couple of national championship winners, like Team of North, they got two good detacled, two athletic detacles. Look at Georgia, two athletic detacles.

I think that's definitely neat if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams. If you think about this, they're going to defied by the defense attack. What's Georgia? Jordan Davis and Daniel Carter. Let's miss you again. It's Chris Jenkins. Tell us more questions. It is funny how, I mean, you understand it because you play it. I feel like some time I don't know. Are people realizing how important defense tackles are? A little bit more than they used to? I think so. I think they're starting to develop more and more of these like freakiest detacles. Yeah. In the combine, you see in those guys, they're moving forward to 478 and things like that. We'll see. And when you think about those freakish athletic defense attacks, how do you think you fit into that mold of that kind of player? You watch that and say, yeah, that's me. I think I'm top notch when it comes to detacles, but I don't want to get a big head, but watch it come on. I watch it do the drills. I have tape here. You're like, you're looking like my film. So I think I'm up there with all those guys.

Do you become like an artist who comes to the bad guy's best? I think your legs have your things. When you're going to spring practice, you're not doing as much a weapon on the weapon. How do you work on that? Do you have like a goal in mind? I don't remember how many you have last year. You have a goal in mind. How many people do you want to have? I mean, as many as I can have, I think I have more than that. But I think they've counted some of them. And some of them were just listed. But I think we work on drills matching the hand. I think that goes big. What we do is a D line. Just affecting the quarterback is anywhere you can. It's just great for the defense. That little thing covering his eye, he might throw it. A little bit to the left to our player. So it's something that you really, really have to work on. It's a theory that's one of the things that you can maybe work on the most. You can bring your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen. Oh, that passed me two times. We don't have to ask this. We're kind of kind of expected for the second.

I think I just have like an eye for the ball comment. I kind of just look at the quarterback and just, I see him, I load up. I just try to get in his ways. And sometimes he throws it to me. I don't know how your advantage is to do it to the Ohio State quarterbacks. I mean, they get frustrated by you know, we're a team. We're just getting better. That's a lot of, a lot of different backs, man. They just learn and grow for them. You got to pick your top three backs. You got to go right now. One, two, three. I don't really have a top three, but I'll give you, I'll give you one. I would say, say, Juan Gibbs and I like McCaffrey. Auto, he was injured this year. I like McCaffrey. Best back in this drive. I lead out of the yard. That's y'all decision. Playing with Will Howard. What I'm going to remember most.

We're a Howard man. He's just such a great leader. Such a great leader man. It's just like in moments where usually a lot of players say fold, man. He was just always calm and relaxed, man. He just the leader that he was, man. That's one thing I'm going to remember about him. Great thing to change people. Yeah, he's, he's going to be really good, man. He's on Coach Lock. I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia. Just that one, two punch with them both as well. They're going to be really good backs. And so James people's man, he's smart. The way that he goes about his business, man, he's mature. And so man, he's growing, you know, just as a person and as a player. And so man, yeah, definitely Ohio State, you know, that running back room is in great hands. I was right there. I'm looking at the U of C spot and the numbers. How the race, personality and the approach of the fellow kids are the same. Yeah. Coach, Coach Hartline, man. He's full of energy, man. And he's creative as well. You know, I'm just learning from him as well. I'm trying to run more outside the backfield.

It was being able to learn from Coach Hartline. And so he's definitely creative at what he does. And he brings a lot of energy to the team as well. And so I think that would do really good. Straight right, and you got to wait for the playoffs run. I can wait. That's what we want straight to. Just that intensity, man. And since he got the playoffs, every game, man, is like the intensity got, you know, higher and higher. And so, you know, being able, I know in the lead, it's the same thing. Even if it's not the playoffs, just every game and intensity keeps getting higher and higher. And so, yeah, you just, I know you got to bring it, you know, each and every day and come in and work. Just like Ohio State, you know, I definitely feel like Ohio State. They definitely do a good job of preparing us for that. You know, I just remember even before going through this process, how I'll talk to a lot of players before that. And they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them, you know, for the NFL. And so, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I know I took a couple of days off after the national championship.

And then, shoot, right after that, I'm writing sample Florida and I'm right to it. And so, yeah, I think where I trained, I trained at your performance. I think it's called the House of Athlete or the Compound now. They did a good job, man. They're just bringing us in and the way they went about training us, man. They did a really good job. I mean, that's what you did? The Bucking Nears. No, I haven't. Do you think it's City Tampa? Tampa, Tampa. Nice. It's a nice city, man. Really nice. I think it's the only thing you can do. The 40, the broad and the vert. You've been on the races, it's an awesome locker. You've been to your mentality of like when you've got a linebacker, so you can get a gap. Yeah. Yeah, no, man. It's really all about technique and then it's about mindset as well. And so, I say, you know, it's for the love of my brother. It's for the love of Will Howard. It's for the love of the receiver, so I got on the perimeter. Just making sure, you know, first of all, my quarterback doesn't get sacked. And I told Will, I think it was before the first game.

I was like, I got your brother. I said, man, I'm not going to let you get hit. You know, and so I don't know if I gave up a sack. I'm not sure that, but I know if I did, I haven't given up too many. And so, man, it's for the love of my brothers, though, man, making sure the ball get in their hands, you know, the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed. You know, you had to hit the practice field later today. What is something you've been working on right now? In my game. You can't really work on this, you know, in all season, I feel like it's more so. You know, you got to put the pads on. You got to go through some inside run, you know, maybe it's really just continuing run through tackles. And so that's I feel like that's one of the areas in my game. You know, I want to continue to get better. I feel like I did a good job of that my senior year. And so I just want to continue to build on that. So you know what I'm saying? Yes, I did. Yes, I did. So people say you look like a little bit more out there. You look like a person that you met with a lot of people. I did meet with New Orleans as well.

I never got that comparison. Actually, I know I have a Camera. Sure, yeah, man, I have a Camera great, great back, man. Just what he does and those 101 matchups, he's dangerous, man. And he's so smooth. He's so smooth as well. I'm not going to lie, he's smooth. So it's your favorite moments of play? You know, you're just doing it. Yeah. Yeah. Inside zone from stack, being able to hit that dang downhill. And I'll say the next one is probably. Just an option out of the backfield. And man and man coverage, you're getting on that linebacker. And so. Yeah, I say to man, the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself, man. And the way that man, he approaches the game. He comes in with the mindset, you know, he's going to work every single week. You know, every practice, you know, he's working hard, you know, even shoot.

I don't know, every good, I think he had it. Every game was a good game for him, man. And so, but still, man, he always has the mentality to mindset that, you know, he's going to come in each and every day. He's going to continue to work and get better, man. And so he's definitely, man, he's going to be a special player, man. He really is. I think how do you look like on your last game in the Alfa? I'm starting to get into three yellow victories. I think it's a massive victory and when you look back on it, what do you stand out for? Man, a lot of ups and downs, man. It's just how you respond to adversity. And I feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better. It's just, I'm not having something to lean on now. You know, I remember before I met him, you know, going through those adversity, I had nothing to run to. You know, you can run to people, but they still can't. It's not too much. They can't truly help you. You know, I feel like, you know, I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ. And so being able to lean on him, you know, he gives you, you know, those moments where it's tough, you know, where it's low. And when you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about, he gives you that peace and comfort.

You know, even in those moments, man, where it's so hard that you can't explain. It's like, man, I'm going through this, but like, how am I still filled with this internal joy? You know, how do I have so much peace in this situation? And so that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you. And so... You know, the back goes firm, Peterson Power and Judd, it's an experience. Which aspect could be to those other individuals that you run to, and from being around power and... Um... Man, those guys have such a great mentality, man. I just really love their mentality, especially Q as well. You know, I talked about Will Howard, his leadership, but Quincham and Tallahdee, man. That boy just, yeah, that boy just gifted, you know. You see, you know, sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like, you know, he should have a negative five yards. And as soon as you know it, you know, he, that running through somebody, stiff arm, and somebody, and she, that's a gain of 10. And so... You some of the things that he does, he just realizes two different guys.

Yeah. Shoot, I think... Yeah, man. I think it's just like, he's just gifted, man, too, beyond it. He's just gifted, you know, he's a big back, you know, he's strong, and so, um... You know, he's able to do those things, and so... Yeah, man, it's definitely, you know, I look at his game, and I want to, you know, at the same time, I want to learn from Quincham. You know, I want to look at his game, and it's like, man, where can I get better at as well? You know, that's the type of player I am. I'm always looking to get better, man. I'm always looking to grow as a player. What's your last experience in the game? Julian Sand. Oh yeah, he's going to be a great, but... He's going to be a great quarterback, man. He's so, so accurate, and so, um... He's definitely, man, I know Coach Dez is definitely going to get him right, just, you know, um... Continent grow as a leader, Continent grow as a player, and so he's going to be really good for a high state. Thanks, guys. Thanks, guys. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Uh... He's, I know just the quarterback position, um... I feel like, you know, the quarterbacks in the past, they've, they've definitely been vocal, and so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to, um... Ask Julian Sand as well, is to be that vocal leader, and lead the, um...

And lead the offense and lead the team. Thanks, guys. Thanks, guys. Shoot, man. He has, he has a build like JK Dobbins, and um... I kind of see them, you know, similar, similarities in their game as well, and I know JK Dobbins, he was a great running back. I feel like he's not talked about his none. Um... A lot, but man, his career here, you watch his highlights is, is great. I remember, um... before I recruit, before I committed here, I remember watching JK Dobbins highlights, like every, every, um... One of his years here, like four or five times, and so, man, he was such a great back. And um... I feel like, you know, when I see JK Dobbins, when I see, um... James people, I see similarities to both of their games, I feel like they play the same. Thanks, guys. Appreciate you all, y'all. You can get back. This...

Ah! Abby Death! The fresh, the fresh, the fresh, the fresh... All I got coming in last year I knew the road so I just tacked Eric Dave really the same way It's taking advantage very rough Physically how different are you weight wise body wise on that from the year ago? I think I got a lot bigger. I'm like 240. I'm like 240 for right now last year I played at like 236 to 37 What does it feel like a 240 for a belt? You feel like an almost a different machine out there? What does it feel like to be running around out there like you are but with more back? I just feel like I'm like like more downhill like stronger like I'm taking a lot better. It's a big move

Is it don't think maybe that's not the correct term but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year And you played quite a bit last year and stuff. What do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more? I just got to get ready to just play 30 more snaps. How would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an 8 stand point? I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready for it. The text is opener. It's a rematch. It's not really two different teams compared to the last time you all played and stuff. How has that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the where an opener of that magnitude? Yeah, with an opener like that we've been emphasizing it a lot. We know we got coming so we know we got to do it. We've been prepared for it. I already just broadly worked with him. I think Riley ready to play right now. He advanced freshman. He ended up here in the book. He stood in like he advanced. And his measurements was crazy. He saw it on the saw line too.

I feel like you said you're ready. What was that process like during last season? Did you feel yourself becoming more and more ready for whatever the team needed from you? Yeah, because that's pretty much what my role was. Whenever I was needed I had to step up. I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year. When you say ready, is it more a physical thing? Is it a mental thing? When I say ready I think it's pretty much like everything physically, mentally, mostly. I think I'm there. How different is that feeling this year than last year? Asked one more time. How different is that responsibility? That's just the emotional story. Oh, that was last year. You knew you were a homemaker. I feel like it's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year. But I kind of go about it the same way. Like last year I was attention over everything I did. I feel like this year is going to be the same thing. It's probably a little bit more.

Somebody who's some reason ever said help you to try. And what word? How's anybody worked your watch? I say, describe my game. I say, when you think of me, you would think of like a bully, like a silver bully. I don't really bully. I'm always on the ball. That's how I like to play and think. No, I ain't got to be my nickname, but I'm not saying that the nickname to be that's all. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's it. How does that fit you? And what are you going to show going about? The playing in that kind of style? I think it fit me because I just like the defense. I feel like we got, like you said, we got a lot of freedom and we moving around a lot. A lot of the terms is like, you know, I don't know. I don't really know how to answer that. That's okay. Does it? You can go on your instincts a little bit more, maybe?

And it's not so thinking of too much. I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on, but it's like, I just like his defense. I like how the picture defense. I like what he got going on. What was it? Sad when CJ left the ring. Now I wanted to much sad. I was kind of like happy for him. Like, yeah, that's what you want. No, no. No, that's my dog. I'm going to say yeah, kind of missing a little bit, but yeah, I'm happy for him though. Well, thank you. Go ahead one last question. Coach Daze talked a lot about the guys who played some last year, but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for that wasn't maybe your national championship you guys were going to win your own. How much do you feel that is a guy who certainly contributed last year, but will be in this bigger role and a lot of some of your classmates? Yeah, I do feel like, um, yeah, I do feel like I did win the Nadi last year, but like you said, my role wasn't same as how it's going to be this year. So yeah, I definitely want to want to go get another one experienced that like feeling with me be on the field, a lot more place.

Great. Well, thank you very much. Walking through the lane the first time to do fall. What did you see on that lane? What was called the front lane? That was just scrambled real honestly. We've been working on that for a while. So for it to show up and that spot was really big and yeah, that's something that we've been practicing since Cliff guy here. And I think Jaden is doing a better job each and every week just keeping his eyes down the field and as receivers, we just want to put ourselves in a position to find some open space and try to make a place. So it was a good play to connect on that and flip the field. When forward or what's the vibe? Yeah, what's going right? Yeah, man, I think we just have a really close group of guys that are practicing really well. I believe we are working really hard each and every day to be better than we were the day before. And we're not just hanging on our hats on what we've done in the past. And I think we've just been listening to how DQ's been leading us. And I think we're playing really good complimentary football. Obviously we left a lot on the field and me personally, I just want to be better.

You know what I mean? Like having a fumble, giving them three points, having a drop touchdown, taking six points also. Me personally, everybody knows I'm going to be better for that. But at the end of the day, we won the game. So I asked my main focus. But I think when you have a team that is able to pick each other up, when some mistakes are made and you're still able to put up 30 points and hell to team out of 20, that gives a lot of excitement going forward. And we know that we have to just clean up the little things because we're going to be going on the road against a really good Baltimore team. And we've got to be able to minimize mistakes if we're going to be able to win that game. But the vibes are in here are really high because of the way we're competing in practice and showing up in the game the little things. So we're looking forward to middleing that. Terry, you have the new touchdown Cincinnati. Today you have a 60 plus incredible play. Jayden, how do you feel about the rapport that you and him are building and how special was that played in it? Yeah, him and I are growing each and every week. And you know, great thing about him is we're always in constant communication. So, you know, when I have him to stay, he's always got my back and making sure I'm just keeping focused and, you know, same with him.

You know, just trying to encourage him when things don't go right. But you could definitely tell that our connection is growing each and every week. And I just want to be the guy that can help continue to develop and be a great teammate for him and the rest of our team. And honestly, I just want to shout out Deami for real. You know, he's had quite the journey and the league and the way he's matured and continue to keep his head down at work. And he's kept his faith high in the Lord and he was ready for his moment. And obviously, Mr. Noah, that was tough for us. But for him to step up in that moment to get one on one coverage, we knew we were going to get a lot of man today. And I felt like we handled as a group, Luke coming up with big conversions, OZ. And I'm just really happy for Deami. So I think he just has to continue to grow and being those big spots for us. I know he's going to continue to try to make those plays. So me and Jayden are going to continue to grow, but I'm definitely happy for the other guys in my room too. You guys had a lot of huge plays today. I mean, what does it say about this office? I think you guys may be able to get, I think four plays, 34 more yards. Yeah. I think maybe six overall. What's it about the office? It's a lot of young plays like that. Yeah, I think we're finding ways to create explosives. And it's not just in the past game. It's in the run game as well.

You're finding guys who are running down the field trying to give blocks in the second level. So they're running baskets spring-free. We're doing a really good job in Scramble Dribbing. Jayden has given us a chance. And when you got a man game, like this, you might have some chance to get some explosives. And you got to make teams pay. So we're really excited that we're able to create explosive plays in the run in the past. And I feel like that just gives a lot of dynamics for our defense to continue with. Well, unless we just got to learn how to minimize the mistakes, you know, getting down in the red zone, missing opportunity, fumbles on my part, drop touchdowns. So, but to put up 34 points and win the game against a good defense, we're proud of that. So you take the good with the bad, but you got to learn from it going forward because we're going to have a really, really good test next week against Baltimore. Jayden, could you see this coming? Could you start? Could you see it coming? I think you never really know how it's going to play out, but I had confidence in this group the way we practice each and every week. The camaraderie, the way we built from the spring through camp, the competitive edge that we have against one another and Kyle Coach Quinn pushes us to compete in everything we do.

And when you got guys who want to win every single practice rep, I think that translates to the football field. And I think our preparation is really in a good spot right now, but I think it really the hang hat. We can really hang our hat on the way we're working. And just to see that we're able to put up the points that we already, defense is getting a groove. But we still have a lot of room to get better and leave, you know, at least meet on the bone. That's exciting as a player for myself. So, yeah, we're just going to continue to build on this. You never really know how it's going to play out in the league, but when you put good days of practice together, when you play for one another, when you compete at the highest level. And there's a lot of unselfishness on this team. You have a chance to have success. So I think we're doing that at a high level right now. You guys are putting the nation on notice. So for those just starting to tune into what this team is all about, what do you think you showed them today? We're just going to continue to stay humble. But at the end of the day, I feel like when you turn on the film, you're going to see a group of guys, but it's often as defense special teams are going to play extremely hard for the guy next to them. Everybody's eager to try to make a play to help win the game or make a game changing play.

And you got guys who are really unselfish and just really need to do the little things that help us be successful, whether it's in the run game, pass game. Defense run into the ball, D-Liamen run out of stack, special teams that way they're converging on kickoffs and bringing energy to our team. So it's not really something that we're trying to prove to the nation, but I think we turn the film on. It's a direct indication of what we've been building since Coach Quinn got here in the spring. And it's on us and the leaders to continue to try to build on that. And continue to get better on the little things and the mistakes that we did have. So we could play a lot cleaner. But when you come out with a win like that, and you feel like you still have a lot of room to prove that's exciting. It makes you get eager to get back to the Jornboard, where's the film to get better. Thanks, Sarah. Thanks, Sarah. That outside looking in perspective on your career and longevity. So I feel like I think I can appreciate it. But yeah, just from a day to day perspective, it's hard to do.

And I think one thing that's huge is you just have to continue to add value. As you get older, there's going to be an influx of new players every single year that are gunning for your job or guys that you are playing against. And that's something that I've really tried to strive to keep myself at a level where I can maintain my level of play if not get better. And I think I'm in my prime. I still think I am. And I think I'll be able to play as long as I want to knock on wood, barring any freak accidents. So I just, you know, I want to be here. I want to be a part of this team. And you know, when you want to and you have passion to add value, that makes it a little easier to get up and do the workouts in the off season. You know, whether you're 22 or going to be 31. So yeah, I mean, it's definitely special. You talk about the organizational little bit. I mean, they have always had this reputation of rewarding the players.

You see this off season, St. Brown, golf, you know, a name, not yourself. What does it say about the organization that you feel like it's changing the reputation a little bit? We're rewarding the guys like this. Well, first and foremost, those three guys absolutely deserving of every penny they got. Incredible. And, you know, me being in the room with Penae every single day, like I was, you know, ecstatic for him. And of course, the other guys, but Penae is my line. He's my guy. I think it speaks to a good culture that's been built. And it's not built on sand. It's genuine. It's real. You bring certain guys in because of what they can add, not just as players, but as people. And like I said, it's, it's a genuine thing that the, that the staff is looking for. And it's not, oh, we're just going to bring this guy in and then get rid of him and try to find something cheaper.

I just think it speaks to the culture. We find guys that fit. We find guys that represent what we're about. Not only are they phenomenal players, but they represent us. They represent the city. And to be able to keep a core group of guys around, I feel like more and more in the NFL. You guys coming in and out. And it's hard to develop kind of some cohesiveness. And especially us on the offensive line. We got to play together for a long time now. And that's valuable. I mean, it's, that's big time. And then you think even the quarterback position, where his drops are, how he moves in the pocket, things like that. And then Jared and his familiarity with, with Saint. I think it speaks to, they want to win. We want to win. This is what we're here to do. We're here to win. So we're going to keep our guys. They can help us win. Yeah. I think it's a great opportunity to be able to help you last week and express your desire to stay. But didn't sound like anything was imminent. Can you just take us through how this came together from your perspective?

So I've been going back and forth a little bit for probably about a year and a half now with the organization. Because I knew like I want to be here. There was no, no questions for me. Like, this is the place I want to be. I want to stay here. There's just a lot of moving parts. I'm not the only person in this organization. I'm not the only guy that wants to contract extension. And then I think. Coming off two surgeries, I think they probably wanted to see how I was moving around a little bit. And then in OTAs, I actually went up and I had a conversation with them. I was like, where are we at? I hear things from my agent from our salary cat people and they're talking and I'm getting the second hand information. I want to hear it. Tell me where we're at just so I know. I just want the information so it's communicated well. And pretty much what he told me was to it to you what happened. And I just basically had to stay patient. And for me, it was never going to be hold out of training camp.

And it comes to the season. We're not going to play games like that. That's just not me. I'm going to show up and I'm going to play because that's what I do. And that's what I'm here to do. So I think it was pretty seamless. I just talked to Charlie and Disneyer upstairs and said it was super smooth. I think it happened in a day. Which was pretty much all my second one happened. And my third one happened as well pretty quickly. I think there's value in just showing up and going to work. And I think the team knows that I'm not going to change just because I'm not getting what I want when I want it. And then ultimately we both got what we wanted. So for me, it was just I got the information that I wanted from Dan. And when we communicated, man to man is very amicable. Since that conversation, I felt like it was promising that it would happen. I didn't know when exactly I had a ballpark idea.

And then it all worked out. I showed up to camp. I went and played and the agents and the salary kept people do their thing. And now moving forward, I can just focus on playing football going through camp day to day. I don't have to have any of that hanging over my head. And this pretty good feeling. Taylor, all I am doing is a very famous job. It's not here. What does it mean to play for a team that values that side of the game? And when did you first sense that from Brad and him? You know, there's a couple times every single camp where Dan will come into the offensive line room. And he'll say, I need to see it today. And I've never had a head coach come in our room and say something like that. And he would pop in every now and then just say like, today, I need to see it from you guys.

Not that we're not out there working hard every single day, but he's like, my eyes are on you guys today. And it seems like a lot of those times they're kind of some ballbuster practices that are going to be kind of a grind it out. And that's what offensive line is. And I think you see it with the way they draft. They draft guys and the trenches. And even Dayton back to before they were hired. This organ is it. I was drafted. Graham was drafted. Joe had always drafted in my class. Frank was draft. Like we were drafting lineman. We were trying to build this team the right way. And we had some pieces and then Brad and Dan just continued to build on that. And I think it's paying dividends. And I can't speak enough to, you know, going back to the culture fit of the quality of people that they bring in. And how when you get along, I don't know, just people's play flourishes even more. And that's another big reason like this is where I wanted to be.

I had pretty much no interest in going to any other team. I wanted to be here. And a big factor of that is the guys that I get to play with. And I want to continue to play with them because they're important to me. And I think, you know, the offensive and defensive line based on how the drafts have gone and based on the quality of player that they've brought in. I mean, you can see that it's it's definitely of importance to the organization. Kind of along the same lines, given where the roster is, given the success of the team's head recently. Is there something extra validating about getting your first contract extension under this specific regime? Yeah, 100%. Not that I didn't think that they wanted me here because if they didn't want me here, I wouldn't be here. But I had gotten my second contract from a, you know, a previous regime basically. It's not like I never felt like I was like one in here, but it's just like that little extra.

Hey, we want you here and we want you to continue to add value. Because we're a young team and I'm not getting any younger. But I still think I can play and I think I can play for as long as I want. And that's kind of kept me young and I feel like that's kept me motivated to kind of have that edge. But yeah, I mean, it's just that little extra where just kind of reconfirmed. I mean, when Dan was hired, he called me that same day. So it's not an instance of, oh, I'm not one at here. They just kind of doubled down with this contract. We love you. We respect you. We want you here. We think you can play. We think you can continue to add value. And let's get this thing going. Thanks, guys. Hey, let me make sure you're okay. So you get the photo of you and your daughter. Yeah, I mean, you already dreamed of where you got here. But when you actually see your own eyes, how much does that inspire you to then want to be part of oneself?

Oh, this is great. You know, he's like, you see it. You just like, we got to go get one. We got to go get one. We got to keep legacy going things like that. The bread doesn't go in. That's never happened here before, but the early rollies get to go to like those season games. Oh, haven't we? When did you? When did you guys find out that you're doing that? I found out when I came because I got here on January 2nd. And some of the day I got here, they called me, said, had come in and workout. And then we started doing things with them. Yeah, I was the first person that we did it here. Yeah, very. And what did you take away from that experience? Just everything, you know, the way they appreciate everything, the way they took in everything. Like I would tell him every bad matters. Just every little thing, every little thing matters. Is it going to help you? Now, when we first got here, I was just doing individual drills. Physically, how have you changed to personal? I was in great, you know, got stronger in the weight room, close to me. Everything there was amazing intent. Got gotten faster, things like that.

What are your goals for your freshman year? What do you feel like you could accomplish in year one? Really just getting some playing time, you know, showing what I could do on the field in the game moments, things like that. But if you know, first it starts to practice. How much do they emphasize special themes, being something somewhere you can contribute in year one? They emphasize that a lot. They'd say to play here at Ohio State, you have to first play on special teams. Like that's just the culture. You got to do on self-esteem to make the scene better. What was the last time you were on special teams? I played special teams all four of my school years. Obviously a lot of guys have come from Florida and have had success here. How much does that inspire you? You know, it's great. It inspires me a lot. See people like, you know, Jay-Jay, Command, Shine, KJ, Command and Shine. Ride, Chase, you're at the linebacker position. Just things like that. It just shows you that, yeah, I can do that. You know, in Florida, they kind of be like, oh yeah, Ohio don't play Florida kids.

They don't like Florida kids. But then when you look at his three, it's so different. It's Shazier. One of the guys that inspires you as a player. Definitely. Him, Jerome, Baker, players like that. TJ, thank you. Thanks, TJ. Thanks, TJ. I know for me, I did feel a little bit more comfortable than, you know, talking to Julian, okay, transition master from BAM and here. Just how it was a little bit easier for me. Like I've said, just a familiarity with the facility and the people and the coaches. So the rest of the society built and they kind of understand how I learned and how I operate in my mind. So they've been able to coach me and adapt to how I learned and teach for my kids. Is that, is that your position or your practice field or in the classroom? You know, it's the biggest thing that I've tried to focus on is translating everything from those mediums to the field as quickly as I can. Just picking up on every quick note that I can any advantage I can get on my opponent. I want to have that advantage and so I learned everything in the meeting and trying to listen to the field as much as possible.

So it's like a preparation for each treatment. How do you do that? What's different about that? Yeah, coach, coach that's learned, coach CK or assistant quarterback coach and other quarterback sometimes to get together like every walkthroughs. Whether that's just me, coming in and having a little meeting with Coach Fester before workouts or after workouts. There's something going on every single day just to build my development and really give me like I said in that advantage. I'm just trying to learn everything I can and be the best possible player and person I can be. Coach, they said, what are you on that surface in the middle? Yeah, really like I said just learning everything. I got to understand why we're doing things we are doing. What we are trying to do with it and how we're going to do it and how we're going to accomplish it. That's still a learning thing for me. This starts second practice. I really just want to get better and amplify it and make it better so that I'm satisfied with this practice.

I was like taking a snap of something to do a lot of things. Sir. I opened this up until I realized I was five-star in a whole part of the country. You get to hear those just the technical things like that. Is it obvious? Is it eye opening? Is it scary? Is that human being? Yeah, definitely very eye opening for me just because I didn't. I think coming from the place that I came from, like you said, not doing under-center and things like that. I was a little intricate details even to just taking a snap of an under-center that I never knew were there because I never done it. So learning that stuff and you know fine-tuning everything that has to be, that has to go into being a great quarterback. It was definitely very eye-opening. The first day I got here and the coaching I was able to get was the first day of the year. So if the session were to do, you know, you'll be comfortable. What are you at today? I like what I'm doing. Versus the things you want me to do. I think getting better every day, that's the main focus. Just trying to develop everything with that. Get better at everything that I can.

Be a better leader for the team, be a better teammate, be a better person outside of practice. That's really been the main development. We'll see where it takes me throughout the spring. Just trying to get better every single day, develop everything with that. The better leadership that you have for your team and the coach relationships that you have, the longer it will take you. With him, I saw just nobody hated, but nobody just like everybody loved. He was comfortable talking to anybody. I mean that's something I'm going to carry with me, just trying to be familiar with everybody. I know everything about that. That's really been the main focus. It's been a relationship with people that I don't really talk to. I'm really just trying to build that kind of cheer on the team. It's been the main focus. You're a buddy that I've been all the time coming for. Is there a building like what you're going to do? You're going to get a lot of small Gabriel and some other people to do it for you now. That you're going to get this great wrap. You're a buddy. Yeah, I think the first time that I had taken a snap with my offense on the field, my group of offense on the field,

it was like this is actually happening now. It's not just a dream that I'm trying to make happen. It was a dream that I'm living now. I just take every opportunity I can. I'm blessed to be here. I love it here. I'm a little chained for the world. So, you're doing something like a solution. Great. Really just, like I said, you're better every single day. The guys in the room are the best in the country. So you just got to compete every day. I don't know how to say that's what they breed. So, competitions, what we talk and that's what we do. So, I'm really just getting better every day. That's been all of our focuses and all our friends work. You know, Coach Dan, Coach Vesler always are telling our quarterbacks, you know, throw her high-given air. So they can adjust and they made two great catches and was excited to see them come down with it. Come over here to Steve and me. Julian, can you just walk us through the second and interception specifically? Did you see the rusher coming your way? Can you just tell us your point of view of what happened on that second interception? Yeah, felt the pressure. And you know, we talk about third hand help when you're getting pressure in the pocket, you know,

protect the ball, put on your body. And I was too loose with it and obviously, ball came out. Spencer? Yeah, Julian, what would the conversations like a half time when you guys were moving the ball pretty easily and you weren't converting? What does that like for you as a first-time starter and how do you feel like you guys adjusted? You know, just keeping the energy high. You know, I think all the guys in offense know we are moving the ball consistently. We just have to execute. And you know, it starts with me. We got to execute more in the red zone. You know, those first three drives, we didn't get touched down the red zone. So we got to do better there. And you know, it's all about execution and improving. Left side, Bill Rebittowitz. Julian, how much do you think a game like this will help you? Coach, they talked about because you're so young, you're learning things and now you can remember things. How important is that for you and your development? Yeah, I think it's good to battle some adversity out there. You know, have the turnovers and see how we respond as an offense and how I respond. And I think it's good to battle some adversity out there. Go to Brandon Guluk over here on the right.

Julian, you've played three games at this point. Obviously you've got two weeks now before your next game. What are you most looking forward to watching on tape? As it relates to your development, the things you're trying to work on, the way you're identifying coverage is or the way you're trying to develop your game. What do you want to spend your time on the next two weeks? Yeah, I think within the next two weeks, it's about improving everywhere. You know, improving and recognizing coverage is improving. And you know, commanding the offense and moving us down the field and improving in our red zone execution. I think, you know, we can improve in all areas. And I think this next two weeks will be big for us. Go over here to the left, Joey Kaufman. Julian, where do you feel like you could improve in terms of like the red zone, which is sort of, not about the execution there, but what do you feel like you can do better there? Yeah, I think we got to stay on schedule a little bit better in the red zone. You know, kind of we got in the third and long in the red zone. And that's a little bit tougher because you know, there's not much space down there. But also just start timing in the red zone and you know, it starts with me. And then, you know, we got to get the same page with the receivers on our timing.

Come over here to the front row, Tim May. Yeah, Julian's watching in preseason, preseason, pregame warmups. Except you're ripping the ball and those deeper outs and stuff. And then in the game, you had the two to take, you know, into Jeremiah. And what is it like to hit those, but number two, if you work really hard in that regard, and number three, what's it like to have those two guys to kind of pull you all out of the mire a little bit? Yeah, it's awesome because we work so much on in practice. And you know, you saw the pregame warmups. It's awesome to have the success on Saturdays and see it go down like that. And you know, they made some great catches out there. And last question over here. I know you don't want to come off the field, but knowing how close you guys are in that room, to see Lincoln have this role to get on the field and have an impact on games. What does that mean to you and just what he gives the offense? Yeah, it's awesome. His ability to pick up a third down for us, you know, when it was third and two. And awesome to see him come in and, you know, run through contact. Lincoln, thank you very much. Julian, thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you. I think he's definitely some big seed in the field.

This Cody was a great player, a great leader. He's like, he's a quarterback, a defense. He's definitely some big seed in the field. And like, Chris, Laura, and I said, you got to be who you are now. Yeah, definitely. Yeah, definitely. When did you feel like you lost last year, where they could true the count on you and stuff? I mean, you remember how it came along? I think it started in like fall camp just flashed in there after like the first days, weren't around. So I was home. I've almost been great. I like him. I like his personality. I like him all feeling that's not some poor. Yeah. And the life backwards. What is there going to be any difference in responsibility or use in this system? Or is it going to be because it's so hard to kind of say? Oh, we just, we just learned it right now. We just working out. We just working right now. We just learned this to him. What do you think about CJ Hicks and what he can do in this defense?

I think CJ Hicks, you said what he could do in his defense? Or just what are you going to do this season, you know? We can do this season. I think CJ is going to pop up this season for sure. I think this definitely going to be one of his years for sure. Got to. What do you think is the biggest difference between French and American and Georgia? To me, it's no difference. They both coach you and they both like they hard on you, but they want you to be great. So I'm not thinking of a difference. You're talking about how, please, we're working out what you guys could do in fitting in. Do you think Judaism won't so we're trying to plug into that? Oh, no, I don't think so. What's there without the proposal? Do you know about the stuff either on or off the air or something? I think Sunday is a great year. First we follow anything Sunday is a great year. I feel like he liked the voice. I think the time of Sunday just came.

We're working out for the whole team to understand. So Sunday definitely a great year before anything. I'm not sure if I'm not a son of a kid, but I'm not sure if I'm a child. I'm not sure if I'm a kid. How does that show itself? Obviously local. Yes, sir. There's something that's unique about that. On the whole of the field or when it's leadership. Like I said, he's just a great leader. Like you vocal guy. Like you said, it shows up on the field too. It's hard to follow up to a guy who says something don't own. They're not on their stuff. So, it's only one of those guys who own his stuff. So, when he leaves, everybody listen. This obviously has been long string of linebacker success at Ohio State. You've been a long string of linebacker success at Ohio State. Now you look at like Sunday taking that next step this year. I'm motivated. Are you going to be part of that? Then you have to be one of the great linebackers to play at Ohio State? Oh, I'm ready for it. I mean, that's what I'm here for.

Really playing as much. So, I just wanted to get like more experience under my belt. So, I can know, bring younger guys with me because I've been through a lot of early. One of those younger guys, we're seeing it out here. It's the first time I've heard all of your last years. What have you seen from Will? I kind of felt like I should have real forgot about him because he was hurt. How he's running, you know, almost a second man off behind you and Ty. What have you seen from those young ladies? Well, as a workhorse, he's going to stay quiet. He's going to work hard. And that's what I love about him. He focuses. He don't really talk much. He's going to get the job done. Do a job right. He rarely has any mistakes. What would be a successful season? A national championship? A ring. When all the games we don't want to lose anything. We got a mindset that we can't beat. And we just got to go show it. That mindset different. It seems like you guys expect a national championship every year. This year, even more so, you guys have all come back for this. You guys have all decided that nothing is going to happen. Does that just keep feeling different?

Or is there not really any difference? It's just the same work. It's definitely a difference. Everyone working harder. We noticed our last run. Most of us don't have any years after this. So we got to go bigger, go home, and we're not trying to go home. Finish big. We know what you guys think of Michigan. But when you look at what they did, they won the national championship. And you guys took them down to the final minute. Right? You know what I mean? You were right there. Something goes a little different. You guys could have won that game against them. Does that tell you anything about like that, hey, you guys want to win a national championship? But you played to the 59th minute with the team that won the national championship last year. Like you're that close. So I'm saying we just like work harder. That's kind of a coach makes a saying, you know, nobody cares, just work harder. Like those, you know, when we played Georgia, it's the same thing. Last, last play, you know, they went on the win in 90s. So we just got to get over that hump at the end of the season. I think we'll be fine. How frustrating is that? You're that close against the last two national titles.

Of course, it's frustrating. But you can't change the outcome. You can't really dwell on it. You just got to, you know, come back and work harder. Do things better than you did last year and hopefully the outcome will change. Is that as you get older, you're going to learn. I thought I was working harder than you always find out there's a little more than you could have been doing. Yeah, definitely. I mean, that's how that's what growing up is basically in college. I thought freshman year I was working as hard as I could, but now I look back at it. I really wasn't working hard at all, compared to what I'm doing now. So just to learn anything. If you're standing as a 16, then they have to be like, what do you need it to be to be your best? Uh, it is at 75. 80, 85. I mean, I can, it's all on me. I just, I think it's a little higher. I was just trying to be funny, but I mean, it's all on me. I just got to run harder in shape. So that's the stem. You got the heart. It's been a fact. The idea of a potential is 16 to 17. It's actually a 17. How do you, uh,

I think I think we, I definitely can last. I was just, you know, we got to get the young guys to come along with us. We can't play 50 snaps again. That's just too much on our bodies. Uh, just everybody like online, D line. We got to get those younger guys to play, you know, get that pieces on the D line and the online and everywhere else. So we can last that long. Speaking of that, I'm not going to be a fan of snap. I don't know if any of us were really expected to play that next time. Uh, yeah, I did. Unless we were like winning by like a lot. Uh, I thought like, there are no mom and she not going to sit down or something. But we're playing them big games like, you know, Notre Dame, too, on those kind of games. Of course I want to be because I know I can contribute. And I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know that. I'm not going to be a fan of snap. I'm not going to be a fan of snap. I'm not going to be a fan of snap. And I won't want to put that on anyone else when I know I can get the job done. What stands out about Keaton McDonald is he got a few guys in a second here. Oh, yeah, definitely. He came back as a, came back to Animal Yard. You haven't really seen it yet,

but in practice, he shows all the time. He's just, he's just, he's growing right now. He has to work at the, he just has to get, you know, in the playbook, things like that. You guys are about the exact same size. Listen, you're both listening to 6th or your 327, he's 326. Yeah, he's very often. I kind of look at him like my junior, but you know, he might even be a great player. He's got to develop more and getting the playbook. So really a lot on you older guys. There's that large group of young guys and then there's the seniors in the back. Is that part of your task for this year to bring those guys along as well? Yeah, definitely. We got to be leaders. Like I said, we got to have them play this year. We can't just play all the snaps. They got to get in there and get some work. And we got to get them right, learn all season. So they can play. And I just played. I want to like contribute like make plays tackles. Sex. It seems like these guys get big. Each person in class is a bigger operator. Those guys kind of, those are going to kind of while you're in the cell. Yeah, they're definitely some big dudes. And they all work hard.

I'm really seeing much of something day two when I'm passing on, but throughout the workouts, they've been working hard, you know, they're determined. I can say that. And it looks like they're ready to work. It feels like there's a lot of great defenses that you have big, athletic defensive tackles who could eat up space. But also move, you know, right? That is that is that requirement? Maybe through great defense to have guys like you that have someone's bowl. But also a great finger. I think that is definitely I think if you look at the last couple of nice and match-em-tea winners, like you know, you know, the change is a big win. And I think that is definitely. I think if you look at the last couple of nice and match-em-tea winters, for a nice and a championship winner. Like, team of North, they got two good, detacled, two athletic detacles. Look at Georgia, two athletic detacles. I think that's definitely neat if you want to go on that big run and beat those big teams. If you think about that, today we've been signed by the defense attackers. What's Georgia, Jordan Davis and Jellie Carter? Let's miss you again. It's Chris Jenkins.

We'll come up more questions if you get this money, like how? I mean, you understand it, because you play it, but I feel like some time, I don't know, are people realizing how important defense the tackles are a little bit more than they used to? I think so. I think they're starting to develop more and more of these like freakish detacles. Like in the combine, just now, you see in like those guys, they're moving four and a four, seven, eight, and things like that. So we'll see. And when you think about those freakish offensive tackles, how do you think you fit into that mold of that kind of player? You watch that and say, yeah, that's me. Yeah, definitely. I think I'm top notch when it comes to detacles, but I don't want to get a big head, but I watch it come on. I watch it do the drills. I have a tape here. You can look at my film. So I think I'm up there with all these times. Tyler, can you become like an artist and become a bad guy who passes the figure away, it's kind of your thing? When you're going, you're not doing as much a weapon or the weapon. That's how you work on that.

Do you have like a goal in mind? I don't remember how many you had last your click. I mean, as many as I can have, I think I have more than that, but I think they've counted. I think they've counted some of them. And it's some of them where I just missed it. So but I think we work on drills matching the hand. I think that goes big and what we do is a D line, you know, just affecting the quarterfegges. Any way you can is just great for the defense. You know, just that little thing you cover in his eye, you know, he might throw it a little bit to the left to our player. So it's something that you really, really have to work on. You do that. What do you think the path is? It's steering that's one of the things that you've maybe worked on the most. You can turn your time here because there are a few guys that I've seen. Like, oh, that passed me two times. We don't have to ask this. It's kind of kind of expected for the physical. I think I just have like an eye for the ball kind of. I kind of just look at the quarterback and just, I see him like load up. I just try to get in his ways. And sometimes he just throws it to me. I hear it's either to the Ohio State quarterfegges.

I mean, they get frustrated by, you know, we're team. We're just getting better. Watch a lot of different backs, man. They just learn to grow for them. You got to pick your top three backs. You got to go right now. One, two, three. Uh, I don't really have a top three, but I'll give you, I'll give you one. I would say, say, Juan Gibbs. And I like McCaffrey. Although he was injured this year. I like McCaffrey. I appreciate it. Who's the best back in this drive? Best back in this drive. I lead out of the yard. That's y'all decision. What do you all remember most about playing with Howard? Playing with Will Howard. What I'm going to remember most. Uh, where Howard, man, he's just such a great leader, man. It's just like in moments where, you know, usually a lot of players they fold, man, he was just always calm and relaxed, man. He just the leader that he was, man, that's one thing I'm going to remember about him. What do you think of James P.

Yeah, he's, he's going to be really good, man. He's on Coastal like I think he got the transfer in as well from West Virginia. I was right there, like I'm looking at the U.S. spot and feeling on this top of the race, and personality, and the approach of the battle is all the same. Yeah, Coach, Coach Hartline, man, he's full of energy, man. And he's creative as well, you know, just learning from him as well, you know, trying to run more outside the back field was being able to learn from Coach Hartline. And so he's definitely creative at what he does. And he brings a lot of energy to the team as well. And so I think that would do really good. Just the intensity, man, the intensity of the playoffs,

every game, man, it's like the intensity got higher and higher. And so, you know, being able, I know in the lead, it's the same thing, even if it's not the playoffs, just every game and the intensity it keeps getting higher and higher. And so, yeah, you just, I know you got to bring it, you know, each and every day and come in and work, just like Ohio State, you know, I definitely feel like Ohio State, they definitely do a good job of preparing us for that. You know, I just remember even before going through this process, I'll talk to a lot of players before that. And they told me a lot of just about how much Ohio State prepared them, you know, for the NFL. And so, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I know I took a couple days off after the National Championship. And then shoot right after that, I'm right in, right in Tampa, Florida, and I'm right to it. And so, yeah, I think where I trained, I trained that, your performance, I think it's called the House of Athlete or the Compound now. They did a good job, man. They're just bringing us in and the way they went about

training us, man, they did a really good job. Have you ever been in the NBA? The Bucking Nears, no, I haven't. Do you think it's City Tampa? Tampa, Tampa, nice. This is nice. It's a nice city, man. Really nice. I think it's really nice. I got a 40 to broad and avert. So, you've been in the ball for ages, it's an awesome locker. Do you speak to your mentality of like when you've got a linebacker or something, and you're just a jab, and you think you're getting ready to score a ball for the ball? Yeah. Yeah, no, man. It's really all about technique. And then it's about mindset as well. And so, I say, you know, it's for the love of my brother. It's for the love of Will Howard. It's for the love of the receivers who I got on the perimeter. Just making sure, you know, first of all, my quarterback doesn't get sacked. And I told Will, I think it was before the first game. I was like, I got your brother. It's, I said, man, I'm not going to let you get hit. And so, I don't know if I gave up a sack. I'm not sure that. But I know if I did, I haven't given up too many. And so, man, it's for the love of my brother's, though, man.

Making sure the ball get in their hands, you know, the guys on the outside and making sure they get fed. I think you had to hit the practice field later today. What is something you've been working on right now? You know, I've been working on my game. You can't really work on this, you know, in all season, I feel like. It's more so, you know, you got to put the pads on. You got to go through some inside run, you know, maybe. It's really just continuing to run through tackles. And so, that's, I feel like that's one of the areas in my game. You know, I want to continue to get better. I feel like I did a good job of that my senior year. And so, I just want to continue to build on that. Yes, I did. Yes, I did. I didn't mean with New Orleans as well. I never got that comparison. Actually, I know I have a Camarit. Shoot, yeah, man. I have a Camarit great, great back, man. Just what he does and knows, 101 matchups, he's dangerous, man. And he's so smooth, he's so smooth as well. I'm not going to lie, he's smooth. So, I read your paper on the screen.

It's just, you know, when you see a play? Yeah. Inside zone from stack, being able to hit that thing downhill. And I'll say the next one is probably just an option out of the backfield, you know, and man coverage. You're getting on that linebacker. And so. Yeah, I say to man, the biggest thing is the way that he carries himself, man, in a way that, man, he approaches the game. He comes in with the mindset, you know, he's going to work every single week. You know, every practice, you know, he's working hard, you know, even shoot. I don't know, every good, I think he had a, every game was a good game for him, man. So, but still, man, he always has the mentality to mindset that, you know, he's going to come in each and every day, he's going to continue to work and get better, man. And so, he's definitely, man, he's going to be a special player, man. He really is.

Man, a lot of ups and downs, man, it's just how you respond to adversity. And I feel like that's something that God has definitely helped me to do better. Is this, I'm not having something to lean on now. You know, I remember before I met him, you know, going through those adversity, I had nothing to run to, you know, you can run to people, but they still can't, it's not too much, they can't truly help you. You know, I feel like, you know, I feel like the only person that can truly help you is your relationship with Jesus Christ. And so, being able to lean on him, you know, he gives you, in those moments where it's tough, you know, where it's low. And when you're behind the scenes and you're going through things that people don't know about, he gives you that peace and comfort, you know, even in those moments, man, where it's so hard that you can't explain. It's like, man, I'm going through this, but like, how am I still filled with this internal joy? You know, how do I have so much peace in this situation? And so, that's something that only Jesus Christ can give you. And so...

Man, those guys have such a great mentality, man. I just really love their mentality, especially Q as well. You know, I talked about Wil Howard, his leadership, but Quenchiam mentality, man, that boy just, yeah, that boy just gifted, you know, you see, you know, sometimes he put in a situation where he looked like, you know, he should have a negative five yards. And then as soon as you know it, you know, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, they're running through somebody, stiff arm, somebody, and shoot, it's a game to 10. And so... Yeah, man, I think it's just like, he's just gifted, man, too beyond it. He's just gifted, you know, he's a big back, you know, he's strong. And so, you know, he's able to do, he's able to do those things. And so, yeah, man, it's definitely, you know, I look at his game and I want to, you know, at the same time, I want to learn from Quenchiam, you know, I want to look at his game and like, man, where, where can I get better at as well? You know, that's the type of player I am. I'm always looking to get better, man, I'm always looking to grow as a player.

What's your last experience at the end of your career? Jouling San. Oh yeah, he's going to be a great, but he's going to be a great quarterback, man. He's so, so accurate. And so, he's definitely, man, I know Coach Dex is definitely going to get him right, just, you know, continuing to grow as a leader, continuing to grow as a player. And so he's going to be really good for a high state. the quarterback position. I feel like, you know, the quarterbacks in the past, they've definitely been vocal. And so I feel like that's something that they're definitely going to ask them to be saying as well. It's to be that vocal leader and lead the offense and lead the team. Thanks, Craig. That's the best of you. Sure, man, he has a build like JK Dobbins. And I kind of see them, you know, similarities in their game as well. And I know JK Dobbins, he was a great running back. I feel like he's not talked about his none. A lot, but man, his career here, you watch his highlights is great. I remember before I recruit, before I committed here, I remember watching JK Dobbins

highlights like every, every one of his years here, like four or five times. And so, man, he was such a great back. And I feel like, you know, when I see JK Dobbins, when I see James people, I see similarities to both of their games. I feel like they played the same. So, appreciate you all. Yeah, we're going to. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Well, I got coming in last year. I knew it was all just a tacky everyday, really the same way. It's taking advantage area. Physically, how different are you? Weight wise, body wise on that from the year. I think I got a lot bigger. I'm like 240. I'm like 244 right now. Last year, I played it like 236 to 37. What does it feel like at 244 or better? You feel like almost a different machine out there. Yeah. What does it feel like to be running around out there like you are, but with more, more back? I just feel like I'm like, like, like more downhill, like stronger. Like I'm taking all of the blots better. It's bigger. Yeah. Is it daunting? Maybe that's not the correct term, but to think you're going to be playing much more than you did even last year. And you played quite a bit last year instead. What do you have to get straight in your head about being on the field that much more? Just got to get ready to just play 30 more snaps.

But are you, how would you describe how much you're looking forward to it from an 8-stand point? Yeah. I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready for it. I'm ready for it. The text is open. It's a rematch. But it's not really two different teams compared to last time you all played and stuff. How has that enhanced this camp for you and this team getting ready for the, where an opener of that magnitude? Yeah. What an opener like that. We've been, um, we've been emphasizing it a lot. We know we got coming. So we know we got to do, we've been preparing for it. Already just probably. I think Riley ready to play right now. He, he advanced freshman like he in the, he in the book. He studied in like he advanced and his measurements was crazy. Like he saw like the saw line to him. Or like you said, you're ready. You know, you're ready. What was that process like during last season? Could you feel yourself becoming more and more ready? Yeah. Whatever the team needed from you. Yeah. Cause that's pretty much what my role was. Which is whenever I was needed, I had to step up. So I feel like that's what built me into me being able to say I'm ready for this year.

When you say ready. Is it more a physical thing? Is it a mental thing? When I say ready, I think it's pretty much like everything physically, mentally, most of the, I think I'm there. A different is that feeling this year than last year. I asked one more time. How different is that responsibility? All that. One last year. You knew you were a whole way. I feel like it's a, uh, it's a way bigger responsibility with me having to step up this year. But I kind of go about it the same way like last year. I was intentional with everything I did. I feel like this year is going to be the same thing. It's probably a little bit more. Somebody who, somebody who, somebody who is not helping you. And what work? I was, but he worked your way. Uh, I say, describe my, now I say, like what you think of me, you're thinking like a, like a bully, like a silver bullet.

I don't really, a bully. I'm always on the ball. That's how I like to play and think. No, I ain't, I ain't got to be my nickname, but, I'm saying that. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah. How does that fit you? And what are you enjoying about the lane? I think it fit me because. I don't know. I just like the defense. I feel like we got, like you said, we got a lot of freedom and we're moving around a lot. A lot of the times is like, no, I don't know. I don't really know how to answer that. That's okay. Does it? You can go on your instincts a little bit more, maybe? And it's not so thinking of too much. I don't even know if I say that because there's a lot of thinking going on, but it's like, I just like his defense. I like how the pressure deep is. I like what he got going on. What was it, Sadwin? Uh, no, I wanted to much sad. I was kind of like happy for him. That's what you want.

No. No. No, no, no. That's my dog. I don't see it. Kind of missing a little bit, but I'm happy for him. Well, Bill, thank you. Go ahead. One last question. Coach Daze talked a lot about the guys who played some last year, but maybe weren't the starters and the hunger for that wasn't maybe your national championship. You guys will win your own. How much do you feel that as a guy who certainly contributed last year, but will be in this bigger role and a lot of some of your classmates? Yeah, I do feel like, um, yeah, I do feel like I did win a national last year, but like you said, my role wasn't same as how's going to be this year. So yeah, I definitely want to want to go get another one experienced that like feeling we need to be on the field a lot more place. Great. Well, Bill, thank you very much. Thanks. You know, get it done. I think it applies to me just pretty much. I'll talk to next. I just let my play. Yeah, I mean, that's not much. No, we got to move forward.

You know, we're just about to have brothers that don't talk about. You know, what is our problem? Exactly. Um, I think it's just hard to see communities, which is just executing. You know, I'm just pulling down on our own. I'm just getting the job done. And doing those talking a little play. We just all day. You know, we got to buy a week and rest up. You know, rest up. What's the best advice you're going to have from your big brother? Yeah. Older. Basically pretty much your studies. This is career days. Every day is not a problem. It's a real thing. I take myself in a career. I'm just going to join every single day in the real. Yeah, total confidence. I mean, it's done. I'm just going to get in the game and honestly. Every time we go, we take the field. You know, it's going to hurt. Why is it the junk? You know, I know we're going to give our best effort. You know, I know the junk time. You know, right, right, right. You take the field. You know, it's going to be a lot of fun to be here. You know, that's all you can do. But yeah, we have a whole thing. You just got down. You just got down.

It's not being a lot of fun. I'm just being in the field. Like it's hard to understand the feeling that it's the great players. Sometimes in chapter, we won't work. Just be able to understand that your time is playing itself. It's hard to understand what's on the beat. Man, it was amazing. You know, I'm saying whatever I'm hearing, it's not going to take 100 percent. It's taking years. She was going to take a break. My confidence level, you know, it's always been the same. You know, I've known that, you know, I could break out and have an amazing game, you know, whenever. But it's the ones that count. Can you kind of walk us through the last touch down there at the time of the game for you? I'm taking the big hit and everything. Yeah. You know, corner out. Do you know, through a perfect ball, had to put it really back shoulder for me, you know, to make a play on it. And, you know, just made a play on it. Just about it. What about this kind of sort of, what do you have to catch you thinking about absorbing the hit of the second ball that you've got? Yes, sir. You know, I make sure, you know, I see my surroundings, you know, some guys trying to take your head off.

So, you know, yeah, I do. But I think, at the end of the day, when I see the ball, it's about the ball and catching it, you know, that's my job. And, you know, I take, I consider all those things, but, you know, getting the job done is first. What about the, the port that five has set that up? What did you guys see on that play? Port and five, some man coverage. You know, I'm saying beat your man catchable. You know, it's a good, good, good, good, good. This offense seems like good. I'm going to do concentration slash focus on the one game. Maybe this is going to be a run for its offense. Do you guys have any room to take that? I mean, we don't, you know, we got to see how everything stacks up. We put on the field, but I mean, a run first offense opens, opens up big lanes for the passes. You know, you, you got to take the safety as low. You got to do all that type of stuff. So, it's less about, it's less about who gets the touches and more about, you know, how we can capitalize on opportunities that we're giving. So, you agree that people are right for taking the offense to be that way?

Is it like you're making our decisions? I mean, you can, I mean, you can tell you in any way you want. We have the best running back field in the entire nation, and we have the best receiver unit in the nation. So, we kind of, we're kind of jack of all trades. So, you've been moving around the offense in the past of different things, emotions, different trade and ways to get open. But has that increased any knowledge of hell in this year, or is it kind of the same as the benefit of this? Probably stay away from talking about scheme stuff. What, what was it that Jeremiah did that you think enabled you to be in? Just coming in every single day and competing. That's really what we're challenged to do as, as bug guys, when we, when we walk into the way we're going to coach, make your supposed to be there and show out and show out every single day. And you're not allowed to have a step back and not allowed to have an off day. He took, he took care of all his, you know, the non-negotiables of this program. He was never late. He made his way every single day. He gave his 100% effort. And at the end of the day, he was just winning a lot of competitions and just grinding.

So, yeah. I'm going to do a lot of lectures, you know, a lot about training. Um, training didn't get a chance to do a lot this spring. What stood out to you, even when he wasn't on the field, this spring, that, that basically, things like, he can be a, uh, legit, and backplay for you. The first and foremost, he got, he got voted on by his peers to the leadership committee on our team, which is a group of about, you know, 16 to 20 of our, of our guys who the team looks to as leaders. So obviously, you can see how people think of him on this team. They think highly of him. Um, and he comes in every day as a very fiery competitive nature. Um, and, you know, he puts in really hard work and days in and days out. So even though he hasn't seen the field too much yet, we have no, we have no, um, concern that when he does stuff onto the field, he's going to make a great impact. He's only been here here. Yeah. Last summer, he allowed him like, he's gone as well. Spectrified. He can be on a leadership media. At the time, three hundred six, five days, like, you know, just his ability to be able to, you know, talk a good game, but also back it up.

Um, not in a sense of playing football, more in a sense of we're going to be the hardest working team on the field. Uh, we're going to go in day in day out. I'm going to, I'm going to beat you even when I don't feel healthy, even when I don't feel good, all that type of stuff. It's, it's all mentality. I'm not going to. From far away, it looks like. Uh, violent. I just kind of lose a little bit like young. Very. Right. You see that in him. Yeah. I'm not trying to compare. Number 10. I think. You see that a little bit in the way that he can shift around. Yeah, he definitely is very fluid about the way he moves and we see it in his, in his, uh, you know, his routes and his releases. So, you know, when, when all the white receivers are, you know, in the film room and, you know, he's getting crapped. He's doing all this body movement stuff. It's like, okay, we could see he got a little something to him. So it's just about bringing him along. You know, he wasn't, you know, he, he just got here. It's first, first year here, kind of built on a long. There's steps you got to take, but he's definitely training in the right direction. I think a lot of teams get talent for whatever reason you guys seem to develop the receivers better than anyone.

What, what goes on out there that somehow helps the highest. They keep placing guys in the front. We played Denzel, uh, Davidson, it was, uh, Ibn Olson, Germain Matthews, Jordan Hancock, Lathan Ransom, Caleb Downs. That's really what it is. It's, uh, it's BIA getting this better every single day. So, tremendous credit to the defense and the, the ability to be able to develop corners like that. It's just good on good every single day. That's, that's the way you get better. So, I'm like, what's the call this? It's good open. I mean, we definitely have a strong second there. I would say this year. Um, but, you know, it's just, it's just, it's not just their talent that makes them special. It's their, it's their ability to go hard every single day. They show up every single day with a competitive nature. And, you know, we're, we're going back and forth on the field every single day. They'll be bigger in it and spin that each other a little bit. But, um, it's all love at the end of the day. We appreciate that. I think Willsden, nice job. You know, I think he's gotten better from week one, the week four. Um, I think he has a better grasp just because he's got live reps. You know, the toughest position to play in football is quarterback, just from a practice standpoint,

because they don't get hit in practice. So I think they can get a fault sense of security. You know, if you go, no matter where you go in college and professional football, the quarterback doesn't get touched in practice. So the game is so much different for the quarterback than this for any other position. But, um, I, Mar will stuff this. He stands in the pocket. He can see things. Um, he does very rarely does he make the same mistake twice. I think he learns from every experience when he's out there. We have really good conversations in between drives when, hey, this happened. You know, if it comes back and that look comes up again, he doesn't do what he did before. He moves on to it. So, um, I think he's done a good job protecting the football. You know, we don't, we never want to turn it over, but he's been really good from that standpoint so far in the first four games. So, um, his, his completion percentage has gone up in every game. So excited about where he is there. You know, we continue to, to complete the ball at a high 60, 70% rate. The method will be really successful and efficient in the past game. Um, he's used his legs a little bit. You know, I think that's one aspect that I think he's, he's good at it. But it just depends on how defense defend, our defending also says.

If he has to do that. So, we're talking after the game about, well, there's still some things that we really wanted to get to that we're excited about. The, the opportunity we wanted to get on that stuff on the roads asking about game playing specific stuff. When you look big picture of your offense and the playbook, how much have we seen? How much more is there at your disposal as a skillful? There's always more to disposal, but I think it's what is applicable in the game that you're playing. You know, I think you, you have a course of X amount of plays over a season, but then that's cut down for what you're doing that week. Because you can't practice all those plays during the week. And then even the plays that you practice during the week, you don't get called in a game. Because that specific situation may have not come up in that game. You know, so, you know, as you go through it, sometimes you find yourself in the red zone more than you thought you were going to be in the red zone. Other times you find yourself, you were never in the red zone. You know, you can go two or three weeks, read on it at the ball inside the five-yard line, but you got some really good goal line plays. But you never get a chance to call those goal line plays because you scored from 20 yards out as opposed to punching it across the goal.

And so each week is different. I think we always over prepare probably more than often than not. And say, hey, we got some really good stuff in these situations. But if that situation only comes up once, you only get the call one play. You had five that you thought were pretty good, but you only came up once. So those are the four, you know, you kind of put them in the Tupperware and tuck them away and then try to bring them back out again next week. But we spend a lot of time with how many reps do we have at this particular player, this particular scheme. And then maybe two weeks from now you're playing somebody that's similar to who you had three weeks earlier and say, hey, let's take some of those things out of the Tupperware that we practiced that week and really didn't get a chance to run. You get one more four times four times. And I'll all work to the last one and write out about when we be aggressive and when we do the most part. What's working in situations where you have a Boston four times and don't you just sitting there? Yeah, there's an analytic aspect to it, but I don't think it's always analytics. I think you also have to get the flow of the game and kind of how that's going.

So it's a combination of both. What are the percentages if you go for in terms of success rate? But also you have to factor in what is that due to our team if we don't get it. I think everybody is always, hey, we're all in, we're all in. Well, you're playing poker and you're all in and you only have a pair of twos. You know, they may have a better hand in you and that's where the situation is. It's easy to sit there and say, fourth down, you should go for it all the time. It's not necessarily the case, but I also think you always have to think about what, how is your defense playing at the time? And we're willing to put our defense on the field right now if we don't get the first down. So that's part of it. And then we have certain packages based on down a distance that if we get to a fourth and have it situation, then we're going to dial these plays up. So I think our players are really comfortable because we're calling something that they practiced and run a lot. If you're a pro, you have to listen to your talk about real hours, that sounds like it's much more easy to do. Right. But there's always a room for development.

What would you like to see me develop in the field every pass? And that would be one chair gafed it last night, right? I think he went 18 for 18. So, and then I'm on my same brown one, one for one. So they were 19 for 19 as a team. What about you? Do you think he lost out of receivers a little much? I mean, from the military to Irish, how about his progression looking guys? I think we'll do a good job. I think there's always a growth with all of that. You know, sometimes it may be a newer route that had gone in. And it doesn't have as many reps in the bank as he does with some of the other things that we've run since day one of spring. You know, I think, but I think every quarterback can improve. Every coach can improve, every player can improve. I think this is a growth game, you know, and how you develop. And I hope in game eight we're not playing like we played in game four. You know, I think it's as you continue to go on and start to add different elements, different things that are happening, different opponents that that's always part of it. But the growth is how do you develop over the course of the season? So I'm pleased with where Will is right now, but that doesn't mean that he's arrived.

I don't think you ever arrive in this game. I think every day you're going to try to be just a little bit better than you were the day before. And that's what I love about Will though. That's kind of his mindset is, how do I get a little bit better and how do I improve and how do I help this team win? You know, there's your feeling about this field vision, something you can coach and teach and develop. Or is it there or it's not? It's a game strong had it. You know, I don't think all guys have it, but I do think it can be developed. You know, I think for everybody, you know, it's no different than the first time you move into a city, you've been out to take a map out and try to figure out your GPS. Like, how do I get from point A to point B and then after a while, why was I going this way if I could have gone around, I would have been there a lot quicker here. So it's just part of the process that you go through when you're new and you're trying to figure your way around and you need a map to look at. But after a while, you're going to figure it a little later and then you're a lot more comfortable in your environment. And the more comfortable Will gets in our offense, I think the more successful we're going to have. Obviously, game plans to take something where we're going, where the ball's going to go.

You guys have as many weapons as you do. Do you find yourself as you in building the game? Well, this guy maybe hasn't had as many touches. Can you even do that in this offense where you're trying to get guys more involved? I mean, I think at times theoretically you can do that, but you also have to factor in what is the defense's decision on how they defend it. You know, we're not, when people can say we're not going to let you run the ball, well then we have to throw the ball. So, okay, you know, we're equal opportunities. It doesn't matter if you run the ball across the line, across the goal lane or throw the ball across the goal. And it still counts to six points. So, you know, we're not caught up in it. It has to be totally balanced in 50-50 run pass or whatever it is. It really is. It's indicative of what they're doing. And if we can kind of figure out what they're doing and get a really good beat or what they're trying to take away, then you are. You know, there's sometimes you plan things going into a game and saying, hey, if I was defending us, this is how I would do it.

And then you get into a game and they're like, they're not doing that. All right. Well, then we need to take advantage of that, you know what I mean? So, we talk about it and we want to be balanced. And I think we're pretty good at distributing the ball through. But there are some games where the tight ends may catch the ball more than the running backs catch the ball. That's just the nature of how the game kind of expressed itself. You know, but there are, we have specific plays where we think we're trying to get the ball to him, but we're never going to force it. You know, if they're going to double cover a guy, then they double cover a guy. If they've double covered him, then someone's single. And that's the beauty of having as many weapons as we have is if you're going to double one guy, then that means somebody else is, you can't double them all. If they did, it's a penalty because they get to me guys on the field. But when you have as many weapons as we have, I think that's always a bonus and that's always a benefit. The first year of advocate that you know, four games in the office is coordinating their up in the five. And it's a question of the right and how is that gone for you and how you would get settled in? It's been smooth. You know, I think we're, our guys have an understanding, you know, in terms of, because we spent so much time together during the weeks of, you know,

how it's going to flow. And I don't think there's anything that has gone on in a game that's been a surprise in the case. What was that? And what do we do that? You know, there's a constant dialogue going on. But when we're in a third and short situation, we only have four or five options on third and short. You're not making plays up at the time. They're what you practice, what you've gone over, you know, because you're going to call something that your players have a lot of confidence in running because their confidence is based on their demonstrated ability of doing an training session. So, I think it's been a smooth. You know, we've, we haven't really faced any a ton of adversity on the offensive side of the wall. So I think that's really when, you know, it's, it'll show. But I'm confident that our communication systems and our protocols that we use right now are solid. So, there are some of the view your convergence, like the little better, has an often-supportator maybe than has had coached. So, I missed the first part. Was there anything you'd like the better being an offensive coordinator, maybe surprised you as opposed to being a head coach?

You can go to the bathroom between series if you have to. You're talking only difference, I think. It's always kind of tough coach coop and tell you that on the sideline. It's really difficult to say, hey, I'm going to leave you. But there's a bathroom upstairs by the booth, so if need be. Obviously you have a lot of triggers that are big, but there's kind of a song about it. Is there a homebore you are arrists sometimes are getting too far over the skis being aggressive knowing that you have almost like get out of your three bars of generalism up there that you can just throw it up to or, you know, Ryan's talking about trying to outskim against the guy like Bill Parker and you're saying, you know, you enjoy that, that challenge. But is it sometimes hard to dial back when you have guys that are that explosive? Yeah, because it's not, we're not trying to outskim anybody. We're trying to put our players in positions where they can make plays. I mean, anybody can draw a play up and say, you should do the issue, you should do that. Then my question is, well, how many reps do you have in running it?

You know, and do we feel really good because we've seen the four or five different ways they can defend that. So we're not trying to, and you're not going to outskim, Phil Parker. You know, that's just, I think maybe people think a little bit too much into that part is that these people ready to get that people's number. This game has always been about the players and always will be about the players. So, you know, who can really show up in those matchups. And that's what this game's about. You know, this is as good a defense as we talked about as we face, but there's going to be a lot of one-on-one battles. You know, we have to win against their interior defense alignment or outstanding. So that matchup with our center-owned guard against the two interior defense alignment and the All-American Lightmaker are a huge matchup. And that comes down to just fundamental football. Do we block better than they get off of blocks? You know, can we give the quarterback enough time for our receivers to run the proper depth of the routes to get the ball thrown? Is the quarterback throwing the ball one time? Where's he holding the ball too long? You know, it's all of that. So, but we don't sit in there and dream up because you have a Jeremiah or you have a Mac or you have a Q or a tray that we should do this this and this.

I think we're always trying to action with their strengths and play to it, but you have to look at all 11 when you're making those decisions. Because, hey, let's just go with the hand. Well, then how long are we going to protect for? You know, Jeremiah is going to run a 60-yard route. You know, I learned a long time ago. Every inch on a piece of paper is a second of protection. So, can we protect for that long? Can we hold up and now what are we going to do for that? We're going to keep eight guys in and protection. You know, I think there's a lot that goes into it, but I think the ability to have weapons at all spots makes the defense have to defend all those spots. So, we're not trying to specifically go to one or another. I think we're just trying to see how they deploy versus these formations and what their tendencies are and then what are our best chances? And then we've got to go play and then we've got to go execute because the scheming's done once the ball snap. You know, it's do our guys hold up long and protection and do our receivers get to the right depths. And there's a quarterback to deliver the ball on time to a location where the defender can't get his hands on.

Yeah, just follow up on that. So, when you go against a parker, does it feel like a chess match for the pieces can move independently? The fact thing, and then what is the tale that you've gotten into a defense of coordinator's head for one of the other terms as a game goes on? It is a chess match for the pieces of moving. So, what happened on play one may not be the same thing that happened on play five. You know, it could be different because he could make a different call. And I don't think any coordinator, neither side of the ball, everything's about, am I getting in this person's head? You know, we're really microscopic in terms of our vision on what's the next play and what's the situation? It's second and ninth on the left hash. You know, what are our calls on second and ninth on the left hash on the plus 30. That's really where you are. You're not thinking about it. Am I in his head, not in his head? If you're thinking that, then he's in your head. And I don't have enough space for anybody else in my head.

So, I'm just going to concentrate on what's next down. It's going to be on this way. Can I have one quick follow? This is awesome. Everybody's asking questions. You said the tone though. When a play actually starts, what are you watching? When the play starts? When the play starts, are you watching how the defense is reacting? Because you know what you're trying to do offensively. This is a four-nighter. What are you watching? We have really specific, we call eyes. So, everybody has a specific spot on the field. So, the offensive line coach may have the offensive line to his sideline. But then the graduate assistant is in the box looking at the offensive line to a way from the sideline. It's the same thing with the secondary rotation, things like that. So, with as many people as we have, there's a lot to that. For me, I understand kind of what the trigger point of the play is. And if something occurred that was out of whack,

I know who to ask right away. So, I can ask Bill, what the backside's safety? He didn't drop to the backside half. He actually fit into the front. We thought that we had to play where it was going to be too deep on the backside. So, sometimes you get a bigger picture because of where we are. And you can see the all-22. But you have an understanding of what the ball snapped and what the play should look like. And when there's a breakdown, how quickly can you get the information of what the breakdown was? And why was it a breakdown? Was it because of the defense deploy different than we thought they were going to? Or did we lose in one of the matchups that we had? You know, the left tackle missed on a five-techno. No one's so guy came in clean because, hey, the quarterback could hit quick. I didn't look like there was a blitz. It wasn't a blitz. We missed a block. You know, sometimes that happens. All right. Thanks guys. Yeah, it was definitely a... When you are playing D-Liam, then you can just focus on your man. Just get off the ball. I feel like it's a lot easier to play. You know, that way. You just kind of like simplify... Not to say, I don't want to say simplify, but does it kind of make it so that you're not having to think too much?

Like what's the... Yeah, you can say that. You can say that. Not think too much. You know, just more so let's get off the ball. What kind of impact working with Brian Young, this past week's half, the defense line as a whole? Met a big impact. B-Y. You know, obviously, an old bit. You know, we went back to the basics. Just on technique, footwork, just to fundamentals. And I think that definitely helped prepare this for the game. Did Reels rotation something defensive line different this week? Just getting maybe more plays to sequence together. Set a counter rotate in law. Yeah, it was more so, you know, six plays. If you got to get tired, just rotate out. But it's a cool rotation. And definitely helped us stay fresh. Even that last drive during the fourth. Guys, we were just a lot fresher. Able to rush the passer.

So I feel like it benefited us. Is there also just a... Like, I don't know, just like getting into the game flow when you're not... Yeah, kind of subbing it in now. Yeah, so you know, you can get more into it rhythm. Yeah, definitely. Cam up. Cam up at that second, fourth quarter. That, I don't know if it pushed him out of total range. But obviously, Mr. Fogel right after that. Like, Cam's obviously a leader on this team. When he makes a big play like that, like, how much maybe does that give a boost of adrenaline to the defense? A big boost. Because, you know, that's... You know, that's OZ Cam. That's the biggest Cam right there. You know, all you look at and just smile. But it was a big boost. You know, definitely makes you get on your horse a little more. And just keep your head down and keep grinding throughout the game. That's key and prestige of the way that he's kind of accepted his role this year. He's not playing as much as he used to. But obviously, him kind of just embraced that and does it do anything for you.

Yeah, I mean, I've been learning a lot from Cam. Especially technique-wise. You know, I would ask him about just, you know... I would look at his old film, I would ask him about, you know, what was he saying? And, you know, during this particular play. But I think he's an awesome leader. He welcome me and my open arms come here. And, you know, that's my guy. Hey, when... Like, some of you like, time stands up front of the team. So, like... I've been playing up to my expectations. Like, I will be better in for the... Like, what was it mean when somebody hits the statue of a lot of people grew up watching him? Yeah, I mean, T-5, he had to, man. I mean, you know, every game make him be your best game. That's the lead. You know, but he came up clutch with a pick. I mean, you know, regardless of it all, he always finds a way to get interceptions on the high he keeps doing it. But he definitely...

I smiled at that too. It was like, you know, I watched him high school. Really just his whole career. So, it's an honor to be playing with him. Rizzie talked about kind of changes of things every now and then to make people body uncomfortable. What's the value of that from a player perspective? I think just in terms of, you know, staying uncomfortable, things that mental aspect, you know, going through a game. You know, things may not go your way. Just being in that uncomfortable state and always having the will to push him, fight through. How have you seen the changes with the benefits rather of those changes that you all make this week? I mean, like, from practice that's scheduled to your position rules in the locker room? Yeah, I mean, I think we can see it, you know, during the game. We just watched film. I even know myself during the run. I was just in my hand placement. It was a lot better. You know, because we were just refining a lot of the smaller details of that B.Y. felt like we needed to fix.

So, I think it's paying off. And you also talked about confidence of a minute ago. From you all side of the ball, obviously, up here, big roundizing on the past week. How much was the confidence boost from what you get from this win? Oh, a lot. I'm a lot of I feel like we, the whole week, you know, we was talking about finishing. And I felt like we did that. You know, we kept our heads down. We went back to the basics. The fundamentals, technique, hand placement, you know, that lean that you have to have. And, you know, just refining the small things and it all paid off. So, it's definitely a confidence boost. How would you describe Peyton Turner from your time with him watching him through training camp? And then having a bigger impact this past weekend? Yeah, now Peyton, great player, great teammate. You know, that's a, that's a, I think, guy that's a team I grew closer with. But a great, I mean, he's a great player, a hell of a guy.

Thank you, Barber. He prepared these games day in and day out. He goes on notice, but the things he does is very noticeable for the team and stuff like that. He's done a phenomenal job this year. They got a little more size on them and stuff like that. They played Manage from before. And that's what they've been doing all year and stuff like that. So, they got a lot of reps at it. You're going to see me. They will be saying this game. Yeah, we're going to assume they do the same in the game. They've been putting them in film all year going on how man covers and stuff like that. So, we're going to assume a reactor where they come out and stuff the different. How do you see Will Howard grow over the four hundred and three? Will's become more and more of a leader each and every week and stuff like that. He's led the same by example whenever we're down, he picks up this team and he's a juicer of the team. What year does it take to make that drive? How much space do we have now? We have all the figure. We didn't have the faith in Will. He would be on the field.

It was a great play call. The defense came out of something. We did something else, but it was a great play call. But I thought it was something else. But now, Will, he pulled the Daniel Jones on the three line out. No. We always get on and say, like, you ain't doing this at K state. But now you come over here. You can't stay on the sheet. How much time can we do at your base? We talk every day. Jermaine's on the defensive side and stuff like that. We get each other going and stuff like that. Will has competition to pick in each other up. How do we see Daniel Jones going forward? He's going a lot. He's played more and more of this season and stuff like that. He stepped up against when we needed him the most and stuff like that. He's always taking you and they get better. He's a crisis against the best receivers. You can't get any better than us. Jermaine's, for sure. I can still let Kyle talk to me. He's talking a lot about that.

He's talking a lot of practice and he's also going out there to make the plays back it up. I knew it happens as receivers and stuff like that. You know, catch every ball and happen and stuff like that. I just knew I couldn't let it be me up and inside and we scored. I knew the ball would come back later and they did. I just came out to open kick to my elbow to the fast. Yeah, it happens a lot. But you expected a lot of the time. That moment where you just especially the gold line so that everything is more content and stuff like that. You didn't really think you were going to pop that open. Yeah, I have one. I mean, a lot of every college football player in the world wish they were here and that.

And our position and stuff like that is definitely a blessing. Not everybody gets the opportunity to do it. And it's only like probably once in a lifetime opportunity for a lot of people who want to do more wins. Yeah, we just have to look at ourselves in America and see what was the problem. What we needed to do to address those problems and stuff like that. We did exactly that. We came out far enough of putting more trust in our receivers and then it's open up to run games and stuff like that too. You just buy any of the necessary mindset and stuff like that. And then we knew that there was a lot going on with him. So we knew we had to back him up to be there for him. Two more questions.

I didn't know the right. I didn't. It's funny because I miss my black and I turn around here just running towards me. I'm like, he's gone. I'm going. How much drive is the life you see for real? You have a lot of problems. We have a lot of problems. We know a lot of the explosive plays are on the perimeter and the wide-house on the perimeter. So we know we feel like the game don't go unless the wide-house are going to stuff like that. So we try to find everywhere to impact the game as possible with the ball or without the ball. Thank you. It's expected to be passed very much around. And I'm grateful for that. He can go in through it and help me go through it. Did you do it too? I heard that. I mean, just how I was raised. I just know how to work. That's all I had to do. Just give an effort and just go on East out of it.

You? I want to say this with full respect. When we see JJ and Sonny, it's like, that makes sense. When you're the third guy, were you surprised to be named? What puts you in that same category? Yeah, I was a little surprised. I kind of have a feeling because I kind of like, I mean, I kind of could have guessed it. But like, I just knew like, I was one of my goal to solve some behind Bug Guy and I just put in the work that was in there. So what did you get in now? What did you get in now? It was really special right after I texted my parents. They really knew what it meant until like the video came out and the question explained it to them. So then I have to wait until they get the first one. Back to the interview. It was my own team. I was like, I'm not going to play in the game. Did you just tell the difficulties of going back and forth? Not just like we were learning that we actually have to play both of those five. Yeah, it's pretty difficult, especially during the game. You have to put the whole mind around.

It's a lot easier in practice because it's like in like several down. But like, going back to my game. It's pretty hard, but like in high school, like I was, it was every other player I was in back in court with triple out. I knew it. I was comfortable with it. And sometimes I just take it. I'm walking to a line to line to finish that. I say it to be the same player again. Again, my time is getting to the tip of my head. You bring into action with the way you try to find the right way to run. You bring in the opposite way to run. You set the right path. You set the right path. You're trying to get out of the way. Yeah, so like, I got to set the example. And then like, my first two weeks here, I was like teaching them. Like, I don't know what they're expecting these players because I've seen the new place with them. And even their defense, like, like technique two, for the time being, same technique. But just helping them out. Because we need to learn this. When did you like, when did the idea of playing back what kind of kind of battle they do? About like, rap, the same mental, the game, the game, what do you think you win?

How did everybody come about? It came close to springtime. They wanted to have, they just wanted to have a good fight out there. And like, they don't want to play the best so they just won't get the chance. What do you want to do? They're awesome. They're great. A lot of eyes, it's awesome because everyone's watching something. It's not like someone's only watching this place, so you know what's going on. We've got to feedback to get like after the play, after the practice. We've got to be off for all five. It's awesome. They can, they can tell you like everything. Because they know like what's the last time I had it with coach Johnson, go to Dickies, watchin' 11, go to the one in, feels a lot from right. So like, you know what's going on, it's funny. How has the experience that you got the big reps in the big games, all that helped? Was it coming into the sun? It really boosted my confidence. And like, and I can like lead the young guys too. Because I know what's going on. Because they really don't really miss this first time spring. So like, they don't know much stuff. Just that leadership of them.

So, the ability has also been mentioned a lot. It's been a lot of both sides of all playing in different spots. Can you elaborate on that? Yeah, um, this... Yeah, I can pick that up question one more time. Can you just talk about the versatility that Coach Chase has been talking a lot about that, on both sides of all, can you guys in different spots be able to win? Yeah, so like, you all see it in last year. We lost two stars, all American started. So like, really guy, can you step up and like, go to season? I didn't know I was in the playing, started to left guard. And then I didn't really know I was going to bounce over the right. And what Adani knew is I'm bouncing out some tackle. So like, it really helps everyone. Like, I think a lot of guys this season are playing more compositions. And it's going to help us in football. But if you learn from Adani and Jogger, that and all that. Just like, technique wise, they really helped me like, pretty snap stuff. And like, no one in my life was, was you guys expecting me to play some stuff with them. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

How would you describe the mentality of the defense right now, getting this opportunity for a rehab in the world? Yeah, hungry and thankful. I mean, we know how the last time when we had a chip on our shoulder. I mean, we were riding high before that game and we took that loss. And we came back how to make a couple changes. But I think we understand what, you know, everything's at stake right now. Just fighting to where, another house, stage jersey for the next game. That's what's on stake. And just to be able to represent this state and this team. I mean, we understand what's on the line. And we're just hungry and blessed that we get this opportunity to play in the Rose Bowl. Right behind your Adam King, WBNS. What do you remember most about walking off the field in Eugene? What was kind of going on through your mind in that moment? I mean, there is a, I don't think anybody imagined it. Imagine us losing. You know, I didn't, that's for sure. And I think after that it was kind of head deep. I understand it that man, we still, there's still a lot of ball left to be played.

I mean, you can let it sting for a little bit. But, you know, if you let it carry over too long, then, you know, there it goes. There goes your whole season by. I think we did a great job of just understanding, coming together in this room right here. Not being afraid of display or hold accountability for one another. And, you know, as that happened, we came back, we grouped, and, you know, we're just, you know, just going right now. And, you know, I'm just blessed for those specific moments, you know, losing. I mean, no one wants to lose, but the testimonies and the things you're taught within those little situations speaks of all of you. That's our old rock, Vladimir Drone. Hey, Jay, what did you see in from King John? That last couple of weeks, was there like a push from him? Yeah, I mean, that's my boy. He's in the R2X club, too. But, you know, Kiyada, I mean, every time his number's called, he goes out there and makes the most of it, no matter where we are in the game.

When he goes out there, he's just hungry. He wants to go make plays. And, you know, we see it in practice, so it's not surprising to us. Bill Rebino, let's play this back. Dylan gave us obviously a very elusive and a talented, he's not very tall. How important it could be to just kind of stay in your past rush lanes and neglect a lot of balls and kind of make a difference that way? Yeah, I think it just comes out being disciplined, no one who you're playing against, like you said, Dylan, he's a, he's surely very elusive. I mean, he can, he is making throws. I mean, he get out the pike, he can do everything. So, I think for us, we just have to discipline him and just continue to just meet with Coach Jay, me with the coach's nose and understand how we can just eliminate that. One question about you and Jack. I mean, your personality seems to be a little different. You're more on the quiet side. He's not. Yeah. How about you play together four years, both five store guys, kind of describe your relationship with him, friendship with him, and just kind of how you cop with them each other?

Man, that's my brother, like he said. We're different, but very alike. I think outside, like you said, he's louder, I'm quiet, but you know, once we're on that field, we're like the same person. We'll do anything for this team. You know, we'll die for our players and we'll give everything we got. Room together for four years, correct? Yeah, fall camps. Every room. Yeah, sometimes go over there. So, yeah. We have our share of days when we when I'm neat, he's neat or you know, we might both be messy, but we do a good job. Yeah, I'd probably have a better kick in the jack though. Tony Gertman, like I've heard. When you're playing a team for the second time, and that was almost a season to go by now, how much of, are you at square one with this scouting and preparation? How much do you take from that game? How much do you avoid taking so that you don't have any preconceived notions of what you're going up against offense on the offense line? I say it's pretty 50-50, I mean, that game, like you said, it was a while ago, but at the same time they elevated as a team.

So, we understand that they had, they made some changes for sure. You know, there's a certain intensity we can take back from that game, but we also understand that they went on a little run after that. And we can see that they elevated as offense. So, we just got to continue to watch those games, dissect the other games and just continue to see what stands out and what they changed from the past game. We got a couple calls on Zoom that will wrap up with, first we have Nick Hamilton from Nightcast Media. Nick? I just wanted to ask you basically about the synergy of this defense and how you guys were able to not only celebrate the triumphs but get through the adversity be able to be this top notch defense that you are in college football today. Here, Pete, the question one more time. Yeah, no problem. I wanted to ask you about the synergy you are able to develop over the course of the season, obviously celebrating the triumphs, but also getting through the adversity to where you go all the top notch defense that you all are today.

Yeah, I mean, like you said, we went through a lot of trials to trials, but there's also, there's a lot of things we can take away from all the wins and losses. And from those, those wins we understood that hey, we can be the best defensive country and from those losses we understand that there's still things that need be fixed. And I think when you take all that in at once, they come down to the common top, which is you can, there's always learning points everywhere. And depending how we dissect those games or how we just continue to come as one and elevate, we continue to just collect all those learning points and just continue to grow from them. And one final question, Joey Coffin, Columbus, dispatch, Joey. JT, what have you guys done better in the, especially in the Tennessee game and just late in the season, you think about turning some of the pressures that you've got on quarterbacks and the sacks and getting home in some of those situations. Yeah, I think it was more just understanding the defense as a whole, understanding everybody's job.

The thing as the season went on, we had to understand that, you know, we have to know what's going on in the backhand, we have to know what's going on with the linebacker crew to understand what plays we have room with freedom. And I think once we understood that and got a better understanding of everybody's job, I mean, it showed this play because everybody knows what each other is doing. It's not like the lineback is know what they're doing. The corners and B.I. they know only their job. I think we all know each other's job and we continue to ask each other questions on, you know, if they're blitzing how they can get to the quarterback and, you know, if I'm dropping, playing quarterbacks by I can ask Cody on how to open field tackle. So, you know, we just, we just kind of lean on each other's understanding because, you know, like I said, like Denzel knows how to play corner bend at it, then I know how to play corner. So, you know, he has more, more wisdom at that position than I do. Thank you. Thank you very much. The first stage of the moment, like Dev and the ball's kind of in the way. Definitely, a little bit of both. Obviously, I just wanted the team to win. I think we got a chance to win. No, definitely towards it and then it stretched out last drive.

I was a couple of plays here, a couple calls that he made me should have gotten, but I think the frustration more so it just comes from wanting to win more or anything. So, what did you say he was a little surprised how much attention you got right away from the defense? How about you? Yeah, definitely. We maybe killed him or one of ones kind of how the game plan was set up. You didn't go like, you know, different coverage out of cloud to my side and this is kind of how the game goes. What's the process of it? I don't know, sometimes where, whatever reason, just, just to see that. Yeah, definitely. Especially in college, a lot of the game fans defensively were taking your leg. You know, we had a lot of success at a high-speed, obviously, but one of the ball had in different the weapons that kind of still get the victories. And I was, yeah, you continue to do a better job doing it here. Why are the communication the process been like post-game, getting on the same page with Kyler, just getting his exchange taxed or you guys getting the snowman? Yeah, they're filming them, definitely. Kind of asking what did I see there, kind of go over and play.

I just try to give him what I saw and kind of different feedback there. It's changed. Mark, I gather we're asking questions about the previous game. Are you the type of guy to let a game like that winger or how do you flush it? You got to move on. Got to move on. Some long season guy. Like 16 more of them. Hopefully, you know, I can stay healthy throughout the year and just continue to build and get better each week. You guys did so much work throughout the off season to get on the same page. How different is it when you get into that regular season? Yeah, it's totally different. It's totally different. You can do a lot of things, you know, inserts and shorts and then you go once you go out there, put practice and you got pads on. You do like the point practice you do with the colds, but there's nothing like actually going out there and live action. And really trying to be on the same page. So I think that relationship will continue to develop and we'll get better. Is that it, just a matter of reps then? Yeah, definitely. Definitely. Like I said, I was kind of my first live action together. So continue with me. What are your early impressions on the field together? What's your current?

Yeah, but now obviously I have a deaf sort of respect. No, JG's call or preseason. I obviously be also really healthy. That's kind of the most important thing. I was a good, well healthy even going forward. Marvin, what are your early impressions of the Rams? What do you think of the Rams? Yeah, I mean, they're a good team. They're a good physical team. I think that's kind of where the strong suit is. Kind of a little different to Buffalo, come over to a little match coverage. So I'm excited to build this. Personally, when the bells did give you one of my opportunities, how do you feel today? It wasn't many of them. It wasn't many of them. So I thought I could be good. I'm just what you think versus just playing. You know, not getting a preseason game. I think it was three season. Definitely, definitely thinking a lot out there. I think I'll come with reps. I think they're thinking less and just going out there and playing. Definitely come with reps. And it's something you're on you're better at. But I think definitely, I was thinking a lot out there. Is there anything you can do to bring that that's from coverage? Anything you can do to bring that that's from coverage?

Anything you can do to bring that that's from coverage? You're going to fix that a lot, obviously. Yeah, I mean, you just got to team, get open for yourself. Make yourself available. The one the ball does, can be made in the play. But if he's just taking the weight, that means other guys are having a chance to get open. That's how I kind of how I look at it. It's no longer since you know offense. That's the best thing for us. They're kind of going to be with Tyler. Is this something that comes pretty quickly in a new game? Or something like that? What's the mindset? Hopefully sooner or later, I think. We'll continue to see. We'll see. I don't think we're in a bad place right now at all. Obviously, I don't really think that. But just a live reps, we'll continue to grow and show. Anything and how I believe maybe different than somebody else may believe. You know, like, practice at least like a legal positivity. You know what I mean? So, he, the energy, we're beyond just all height of the beyond. So I just kind of how I want to be. Go on on. I'm literally my whole life. I'm like, yeah, I fell. Team captain, like specifically, yeah, I fell.

I wasn't captain in high school. I wasn't captain in college. But I want to make a joke, I was in high school. I feel like I'm not going to be captain like he's that I fell. Yeah. But that would be awesome. You know, but, you know, that happens. I'd be great, but not either way. I want to assume a role as a captain from perspective of guys. I'm thinking visual words and get back in that way. Yeah, I mean, I can't say that. I mean, I guess the biggest thing is that I felt like it has felt like how we... used to in the past, but it didn't take just the first LTAs. It took training and left and right. Once this season ended because I didn't know what was going to be the champion. So I took a lot of reps just to give back to feeling like myself for day one LTAs. And then that whole first week, but now like today specifically, just changing some small things with my feet.

That good thing is they're talking about the long coach. Some things that I'm going to do with my feet to get to that, but to sell my traditional angle that I love to sit on. I thought I felt great already, but I felt even better. So I need to work more excited tomorrow. Now I'm getting my feedback on how I like the right side and on the left side. So I'm excited. I mean, obviously I feel like in the league, whether I left the right, you're still going against Premier guys. Obviously, they're high expectations for the left and right tackle. But definitely the level of energy and the expectations definitely take the human strength. Because now tonight it applies. That's the, that's the tackle world. So yeah, I would say in terms of communication as far as just even outside of the facility, just stuff like that, like really creating that, but tackle quarterback. Bond even more off the field. I think has been something that's even cool.

I got a text one day. And I said, hey, I keep well up. I was like, you know, yeah, I've been training both. I've been training both. You know, I asked after the season, they're like, honestly, you know, we'll talk to you in some way in season. And I just got a text one, depending on what happens with the free agency. Then, so I was like, you know what, I had an old season right tackle. So if I get the word, I'm going, I'm standing right tackle. I need to do what I did before I'm built on that. But I was like, I might as well just train the left tackle now. As if I'm going to be left tackle. And I'd rather do that than train on right tackle with the call A and do the left tackle. I didn't switch my feet yet. You know what I mean? So I'm like, let me just prepare an advance. I was like, yeah, it was kind of, you know? I think occasionally on third down, there would be a lot of twists. I was just not like, it's automatically good to come. And I think that was my mindset for like the first half of the season. Like, I didn't have to go into the game with some pros. Like, oh my gosh, they did that.

I kind of figured, okay, like, this is the type of rush. I mean, again, this is how this guy usually rushes. Like, get the vibe. This is how the ends like the rush, you know, tackles that first year guys. We got the premier patch on. I already know what it was going to be. I already know what would be every step. And honestly, just knowing that's kind of an advantage to, so you're not, you're not, you're not, oh, they brought the twists on my side again. It was never air-dophilic. But they come up and I was like, three plays in a row. Two minutes, I knew that. It was going to happen. They said, you know what I mean? I'm watching more everybody else. And he rarely, he really goes out there on occasion on third down. I was like, you know, I was like, are you going to pick me? You know what I mean? So, effect, effect, it's kind of, it's also kind of an advantage in a way. But that's also exciting, like, okay, I'm going to get the hardest look. You know, those are real, real reps, you know, the things. So, really, on our way to kind of process. And I was like, hey, when I tell me, let me know about what I'm just going to train it.

I was training all the way to OTAs. I guess if I didn't hear anything about OTAs, I would have came in like, so, you know what I mean? Because just like, I'm cool at training both continue. I would have been cool at training both continually. But I feel like anybody in any position will feel like, okay, like, you want as soon as possible to get your feet kind of settled in, your hips settled in, your hands, so then, certain kind of that. Would it have been harder to get your work both, or are you going to use it? No. No. But they're definitely, but in terms of the development, it was definitely a lot faster to stand on one side. But I think having that, the weeks that we had the transitional seasons over, I'd like to respond. You know, good, good, try and meet up with them on the front end, and weak things out of town right now. But when it comes back, I'm going to show them the one house. I've got a house that's not too far from, so I told them, I got that house,

like, I got a yellow side. Like, these days. You know what I mean? So, yeah. That's doesn't have any stock or anything. Doesn't mean anything, so we're at the play on Friday, and that's really all that matters. We're going to take two more from Zoom before turning it back. Our first one's going to come from Stephen from pleveland.com. Go ahead. It's the fun, I'm sorry. Hey Caleb, we've seen, you were talking about the Ohio State Office the success that they've had. Obviously Jeremiah has been a big part of that. What's it been like this year going against him in practice, and you know, after doing that, does it surprise you at all to see him having a success he's had as a freshman? No, it doesn't bring any surprises. It was pretty, pretty easy to see the talent that he has, and the blessings that God has put on his plate. But it's always a challenge going against Jeremiah and the other receivers and mecha and coronel in practice, and even guys like Brandon

and his impression Rogers, they do a great job bringing looks for the defense and create a lot of obstacles. Our final question from Zoom is going to come from Dan Hope. Go ahead, Dan. Caleb, you've been had a lot of success against you guys when you played him at Alabama last year, just what do you remember from going up against him last year and what can you learn from that game? Really smart quarterback knows how to operate their offense. Push the ball in the right places, and then Coach Narkeeson does a great job putting him in positions to win. All right, back to you. Thank you, Rob Aller. Columbus Dispatch, Caleb, JT and Jack Land opposite sides, and they are opposite off the field as they are on in terms of personality and just the people they are. They're offices, but they're also like one of the closest people I know. They spend a lot of time together. They've come from different sides of the country, so they're different people for sure,

but they're both really great people and really great men. I'm sorry, I respect both of them. Yeah, for that, the personalities. How did you do that? I'm not going to do that. I'm sorry. I'm not going to do that. You're on podcast throughout the season, we would always see you on Wednesday nights, you and Nathan would be some of the last people off the field. Are the things that you're working on after a practice always the same? Is it a routine? What are the things that you're hoping to get out of those extra moments after practice? It's a routine, pretty much, the keys that we need to go into the game with, and then also changes week to week on based on what our jobs are going to put us into doing. So every week we go through the same things and then we add certain things that we do for what the team that we play is going to ask us to accomplish. Bill, we're going to win. Phil, is this match?

Yeah, I already got one here. Oh, okay, Joey Goplin, Phil, is this match? Killvin. When? Texas uses play action and Nathan uses play action in a fair bit. What do they do well in those spots? What's the key for you guys in those moments with Quinn? They do a really good job with I-Candy, and it creates a lot of challenges for defense in order to see if it's runner pass and to see, because that's when they're going to take their shots to as well. So really just having great eye discipline, seeing the line and seeing what it's telling us. So that's just what it does. Deep right, Nick Walker, Letterman Rolf. Hey, well, you guys had a pretty good game plan for Tyler Warren when you guys played him. You guys have another Texas weather good tight in and gone around. What do you guys have to do to limit him and what do you think about his game? He's a really good player. He makes a lot of plays and he has a lot of receiving yards this year. So really just do the same thing we've done all year. Just be disciplined in our responsibilities. And if you're on them, you got to make the play when it comes.

Right, one of the main drill builders. Cleveland.com, when you, the receivers, is kind of a whole, you know, they spread fall around. What stands out about the way that they can spread the fall around? A lot of really good athletes. I play with Isaiah Bond, last year, who's a really great receiver. A lot of speed. And then all the receivers have made a lot of plays. So I mean, everybody has to be on their peasy and cues if we're going to stop them and have it do a really good job. From here, Tim May, Letterman Rolf. Yeah, kill, but you moved up here. I don't have to tell you when you moved it basically a year ago. And so it was a little bit of a leap of faith because you know, you know how many athletes are on this team. Good athletes and stuff. But when did you really feel this defense come into its own? And then then pass that, man, watching in the Rose Bowl, you're recognition of what was coming seem to be on point. Did it feel like that? I mean, you personally. I think the defense has played really well throughout the season.

I think we've had games where we played better and games where we haven't put it all together. But I think that's how all defenses are. So I can't say there's a certain moment where I think we put it together. But what's your second part of your question? You seem really on point against Oregon about recognizing what was coming. I mean, you were really active out there directing and things like that. Did it feel like that? I feel like as Luke said earlier, the preparation that we put in goes into that and just feeling comfortable and what we're doing, comfortable and what we're seeing with the other teams. I feel like that allows us to play fast and me and Laketon to communicate to everybody else. Did I miss anyone for questions here? Steve, how long in 24-7 sports? Yeah, Caleb, but you came to Ohio State to play for National Championship. And there were a lot of ups and downs throughout the season. Just to be in this position, the last four teams still live. You feel validated by that.

Did you always have faith that this is how it was going to turn out? I came to Ohio State to become a better player and to help the team be as good as it can be. Not to win a national championship. Like that wasn't the only goal for me coming here. I really just wanted to be in the team and be with the brotherhood. But it's a great feeling being in the final four and being with the team and everything that comes with that. But it's a blessing to be here. And one final question, Bill, where Ben wants to play this time? I did a lot of follow-up when I talked to you at the back of the game. You said when they scored their first and second touchdown, you were really hot on the sidelines. What was your message to the team? You know, that's a good offense. They're going to score against most people. Why were you so hot? Really just because we didn't execute, which let them score. So we've done that a lot, which is something we can't do in these big games and these games where it's when they go home. So we got to make the plays when they come and get our competitive excellence as Coach Dases make the play where your numbers call.

Caleb, thank you very much. I feel like they're definitely picking up quick. I mean, I was in their shoes one time and I had Zach Harrison, Javonte and Tyler Friedell in front of me. So I'm just trying to be one of those peers that they work for me and kind of just give them the steps to get there. And I feel like they're definitely picking up quick and they're definitely going to be one of the great rushmen. It doesn't seem like a way for Jackson to talk about it. JT and Jack probably need a ton of live experience. Same as some of our opportunities for you, Trivada. Is there a difference in the work going because you've been getting through a half of champ with the last couple? I feel like all the camps I've definitely gotten a big course learned and I love that. I asked Coach Jay for it. I love getting more reps because I just like protecting my craft. So I mean some people may not need it. Some people need it. But I mean, I just like to give you as many reps as I can. What do you think about that course learning? So what kind of right? I mean, for me it's always just kind of getting my little details perfectly like my steps, my footing.

It's kind of just perfecting my toolbox and what we call it and my craft and just trying to be a... It's like whenever every place you kind of do. What do you kind of think is just sitting there? You guys are doing great. You're seeing a lot of stuff. Yeah, definitely just getting stronger faster, everything all the above. But one of my big things is being a leader. And kind of just not trying to look, still look up to Jack and JT and kind of have my own kind of leadership and be able to bring people into it. So I feel like we kind of have a lot of leaders on the D line and we have the D in position. So we kind of all kind of just count off each other and ours. So that's been a tough challenge for me to be able to open up these guys, playing with them all. You know, the field and the stuff that they're going to do now. And trying to keep us from being like, so you need those guys, how's that transition going to be? It's good competitive and we love it. We're all competitive people. We all love to fish each other. And I feel like we're bringing the best side of all. And I feel like we're all just kind of bouncing off each other and seeing what one person does. And we kind of build into our toolbox and we all kind of just kind of build one great thing.

Hey, you were the right last year when you got the shot at full back in the world. And did they approach you with that idea and two coached them? I mean, how did they come about? Because you heard Jack saw your sloppy. You could have touched that. So I definitely did it in high school. I was full back and a little bit of Titan. So I feel like it kind of saw what I could do there in Coach Wilson. Honestly, he loved watching it too before he left. And I feel like he playing that seed and Coach Day's head and Coach Day kind of just went for it. And I tried to do the best I could to do it. Is that the chin ring now? Do anything in the screen? New playbook. I did not know you. You haven't got that far. Yeah, good day. How tough is that? You're here looking track. I like to think myself as a football player. I can really play any position on the field. You need me to just give me a weaker two to learn it and kind of perfect it. And I'll try to do my best for you. Kid Jack, you're the same thing. Oh yeah. Well, what about you? Graphically, if that's what I... Kaden, it's talking to Coach Johnson on Tuesday about some of the conversations.

He sort of saw you and got out to have some conversations after JT and Jack decided to come back. Just got to win into those, you're perspective and out of that help you maybe get the right mindset I guess when he needs to come. Definitely kind of seeing it all the way through. I feel like people kind of just see what happened and they don't know everything that goes into it. How long the season is now. What you got to do to prepare for and what could happen in all that time from here to then. So I feel like we definitely just coached in, we kind of connected. We kind of just talked, man or man. And he kind of just said straight to me and I feel like we kind of both are pretty honest. And we know we're making it. Yeah, I don't know. We're better every day and we got the 4 best DNs, 5 best DNs, honestly. And then Coach Football and we're going to be one of the best D-Lines in Coach Football. How do you feel like a better player today at any more again in the season? I feel like I'm taking big steps in my rules of just being responsible and being more of a leader and kind of stepping up and taking a step to kind of get out there more on the team and kind of bring people in.

And I feel like I'm kind of helping out more. I think record head around the past 17th year of season. Does that sound? I mean, it sounds bizarre, but I mean the season goes by so fast already. So when you're kind of like week 10 and you're like wow it's already week 10. So now it's kind of, it gives you more time to kind of enjoy it and kind of savor it because I'm already here for you. Coach, I feel like I'm freshness to this crazy. But you don't want to spit on your powder for the first month of the year, right? Oh yeah. There is that pace yourself there. There is a mindset there, that season. Yeah, definitely. Definitely going to have the mental stability to handle all those weeks and all those practices. How much has Larry talked to you guys around like this? The last question right here. The 2016-2017-2017 4 and the 5-2-finch awards all in the same location. How much does he talk about that? I mean, he doesn't have to talk about it. We know about it. We've seen it every day. We watch the film. We see him all working together. We know what it could be. We know we could become. So we know we're right at the same place at the right time and God wanted us to be here

and be new. We wanted us all to come together and kind of play together and be able to bounce off and just perfect our craft together. And I feel like we all are just great individuals and we come together at something special. Great. Doing it? What were the deliberations? I'm surprised it's even a conversation. Like, it should always be live. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I'll just tell you.

I'll tell you. There's a way, for much more, look you up and have a good relationship here with me. I'll tell you there. Who needs to meet our classmates? You know who's there. schmeam and you'll notice that somebody with a voice calls twenty question are asked for. And Minnemapandaollen. It's a blessing to be able to be in a position where you know can provide insight or I wouldn't say recommendations, but just you know give perspective What how he chooses to receive the first perspective or not one and not mean he always does but which is fine But to be in that position is really humbling that being said He does a really good job on his own. He doesn't need checked all too much He's really done a great job again the way he was raised in his morals and Humble would always sign and taking pictures. I'm always trying to be the bad guy for him because he's not gonna be and

Just says again more about his character But he's not the only I mean he's not the only guy any guy would kind of do that We have a group full of awesome young guys, but Jeremiah has done a great job with it handling it and It's definitely growing at an exponential rate to say the least but I think he's built for it He's been handled at a high level, but those around them were trying to help my little bit Yeah, I mean That's a good question. I think that you know Frankly, you know, I Know I know I'm not really fully involved with that. So that can be but I wasn't you know, I think that People on the outside would be defense or even coach day or anybody brought it to my attention You know, we're kind of just going about practice and that's our expectation and make plays not make mistakes And he was starting to make a lot of a lot of plays consistently

I think the consistent level that he's been as a person being on being on time and And doing what his job description on each play and the ball is coming your way and making some big plays and You know, it starts it starts being seen by your peers and your peers start asking for they start barking Get his stripe off all those kind of things. That's the ultimate sign of respect. I think when your peers You know go to your bat and he's not going for his bat No one out people are bringing it to your position coach. I think it speaks volumes of the general respect that you're earning Through the process. So I think it's something like that happened and you know, it's what is there based on his peers and other coaches Ryan Day was talking about how impressed he's been this spring with Austin's serval all that he's been able to do and Tyler Boom was talking last week about the importance of the cross-training and all that that goes into that How much have you seen Austin benefit from this spring and everywhere that he's been and How big of a piece do you think he's going to be regardless of where he fits on this offensive line?

Yeah, I think Austin's been awesome. I mean he literally I mean, you know what was they say he played every spot every position We just move around you know and he handles it and you know He's one of those guys. I feel like you watch film over and over again day after day His name never really gets brought up, you know in a good way like he on the online your name gets brought up when Usually not going as well, you know, I mean, they're literally at the point of the tack on every single play So there's nowhere to hide and so But Austin when his name is brought up and say man, how's a good job? Very good job pass off that combo. Whatever. It's always positive and Been really impressed with him. It started in the winter did a great job through the winter Again, continuing to build their respect for his peers and then he's gonna good job really good job Just being very consistent to spring Since you've been working more with the whole offense Come support of act play What is grown in your Appreciation in that position and what those guys have to do and go through what do you think more about those guys versus maybe what you thought before

It's just a wide receiver guy. Yeah, I mean I mean, there's no just a wide receiver guy If you are just a wide receiver guy, you won't be a very later on It's all about it's all about quarterback play, you know So I think in that same world though to the point is that you know In order to be a great receiver or a great receiver or you know receiver guy whatever you want to call it There's only one page is the quarterbacks page so everything is based off them there Whether be their progression their timing the stresses they have is what we're trying to minimize so If you don't fully understand the quarterback play it's hard to you know maximize receiver play I think you know That being said Yeah, I mean, I'm still always learning, you know, I think that I can't say anything's jumped out massively right now But I would say that You know, I guess I would say that the preparation level I mean the what is required to execute and play at a high level It's just not capable in the a lot of time right?

I mean, there's only so much time where I'd be with players if you're not willing to spend you know your own time Getting prepared for practice to be to maximize one's ability There's a good chance you're not going to maximize your ability so you know other positions I mean aligns same thing. I mean receiver play sometimes can can you know get away from it We do a great job studying and being in the room extra for sure But the requirement of a quarterback to know the fixed protections The BR run game coordinator based on the calls, you know to get us in different checks I mean, there's so much thing you know and and frankly The you know the aligns only as good as the quarterback the receiver's line is good as the quarterback They're often silly as good as the quarterback and it's our responsibility to put guys in position to maximize with our capable of maximizing But their inability to notice that they can just spend extra time Outside the a lot of time. I think it's critical and the amount that it takes I guess I was maybe a little naive to but The guys are doing a great job doing it

Reach the mount top you got a banner out there national champs. I can keep these guys grounded Being in the moment looking ahead not back Are you tougher on because no I think that I mean I I think we have a lot of guys You know I think it's understanding that we were trying to build the map to get to where you wanted to get to But now that we have the map Doesn't mean we've traveled the path so Like we know what it looks like the guys that are here know what is supposed to look like the guys before us Say I'm believe we'll example how to get to where you want to get to So the focus is on trying to replicate what they just did and how they operated can't say we've done that right now So it's very easy to stay motivating because they already know it's not good enough frankly and so The last thing they want to do is put in a ton of effort and then not reach their goals. So Motivation I don't think is needed. I think there is a catching up of those and maybe

aren't quite sure what it takes you know and but overall Motivation is not what we've needed clarity of message is definitely what we've been focused on and I think the message is being received so not concerned about you know motivation and and the Looking back if you will I think everyone's pretty pretty focused on being forward and knowing we haven't accomplished anything So Who would you say is the leader of your YBC room right now? I would say carnaltate Brennan inness probably done the most Most outspoken you know in the room Yeah, I would say they're doing a good job those are probably the two guys that would jump out of my room. Yep I mean because Brennan he's been a vocal obviously Carnalt taking on that role More and being more vocal. He's a good football player. I'm a sinner. He's got to do that That process for him and becoming a more vocal leader took for you to say that on him What was the question? Carnaltate, what do you think like the growth of the

Yeah, I mean he's I think he's pulled guys aside you know it had one-on-one conversations with him He's locked in uh, you know Just I think he saw the impact that a mecha made in the role he played and to think that you're gonna lose that and then be a better group probably doesn't mathematically make sense to him So someone's got to step up in that role and one and on respect some two He knows he's capable of it And that's just the desire and the appreciation. I think to be at the order table now I've the older head and and appreciate the way I met the probably went about his his business and so He probably valued that appreciated that And he's just making sure we still have that Final question. Bill Rebellion to promise this guy Could you assess the running back room? I think it's pretty much assumed both those running backs to CJ and and That James think that tandem system is probably the way you got to go again How do you think it's How's it working and you see third and maybe fourth guys up in the mirror? I think that you know in college football We're in a football any football really you got to have depth in running back room. I think that

This very apparent in the NFL. It's usually a two-back system You know very very rarely is it one guy But in college. I think we saw the benefit of that last year The ability to compliment each other is really important And the ability for us to identify what they do great and put them in good positions to be what they are What's our best that I should say? It's really important as a coaching staff I've been very impressed with even the younger guys Sam and And a bow and then the way they've come along Consistencies so what you're chasing right you're always able to that's why you're here But how often you do it ultimately dictates how much you play so But overall I think locksmen on them. They don't understand the standard and in past pro and Not being a guy. We got to sell them out because you can't pass protect so We were blessed what especially with Trey last year and and quenchon so But no these guys have done a good job. They're competing. They've been very coachable You know, it's very it's shown a blood on film But yeah, I mean it's always hard on the backs. I mean every opportunity you get to go live and and break tackles really

Gives you the most feedback on what these guys are capable of you're just playing tag out there. You never get any art at least you shouldn't But the running backs You know on contact days have done a good job James has done a really good job growing really excited about him Everyone's really excited about him and CJ so You know, I think ultimately you know how group the uh How will all go with the group be is probably based on you know The top the bottom rising, right? I mean you're gonna have some guys at the top, but you know, where's the floor and so I think Bow and Sam has done a really good job and maybe some more guys to get healthy and more more guys on campus but very encouraged And you saw him improve and then McLean I think is a is a great plus. I mean he is a guy that has Football intelligence. He's picked it up You know, he's kind of of those incoming freshmen who still should be in high school He's a guy I think you're going to point to and you can see right now. He's going to be a player

Over to the right Austin Ward the podcast A healthy Mitchell Melton How does he fit in for your defense? What does he bring to it? Yeah, he's You know, Mitch is that combination player, you know and In our four down You know, he's a guy that can do a lot of things Drop fold in there and make plays you see some of that all the time really athletic You know We're kind of loaded at that end position. So He's gonna play there, but You know, like I said last year and we We haven't needed it, but he's a guy you would point to along with C. J. Hicks You know for the for the long season People get injured you get a little light inside. It's always hard on the defensive tackles But if you're gonna play with three ends You know that Mitch is a guy who definitely can do all that he has that Over to the left Joey Kaufman Columbus dispatch. Jim you've talked about this before

But I think in pastures where you're going up against a really talented receiver group offense to encourage your players It's not okay if they give up to the play and to go nearly almost the first half today where you The offense didn't get in the end zone till the late in the second half just and you guys have guys down the second area Just what what did you think of that sort of trend and how it's evolved in the way you guys almost shut them out of the first Yeah, I think it's become You know an expectation now You know our DB's you know our BIA best in America we You Led the country and past defense right I think There's 96 what I What I got here and it was number one last year. So They've they've taken that spirit. So it's a competitive spirit. It's an expectation now It doesn't matter who we're going against. It's it's they view it as a standard So that was good to see in the first first half Over to the right Spencer Holbrook, let him in roll

Jim we've talked about safety changing the way that you play defense in the Leo and the linebackers But how much does having the depth that you guys have a defensive tackle change the way that you can do things defensively? Yeah, I mean You're going to play to your strengths You know and that's that's my job is to What do we have and what do we do best and When you have defensive tackles But I've said it before it helped our defense so much last year when you have defensive tackles That actually make tackles which is what we have right now It changes the way you call a game You know, it certainly helps you be In better shape on explosive plays on the back end you don't have to do a whole lot to help those guys out because they're making tackles So you got to go you got to go with that, you know, you got to let those guys play and and they're good so You can't get too far away from the scheme of having those defensive tackles make place because they're doing it and it works

Over to the left Tony Gurdman Buckeye Huddle Jim Ryan talked about the quarterback run being more of a Thing with the offense here during the season. How much of when you're facing a team like that? How much does that impact your day to day throughout the week preparing for that? Yeah, it's a ton, you know it I think it changes everything you do on defense You see it everywhere from the NFL on down if you have a quarterback who can make plays with his feet Your scheme better be designed That you know to to take that away into account for it. So it changes the way you look at everything when you're game planning Thank you, Donovan over here to the right Tim May to the Tim May podcast Jim you might be the interviewer when I asked Ryan about just for example Calvin Simpson Hunt Corner seemed to be playing almost with the chip owner shelter to a certain Xtanami Davis and Nick Benosin took today personally look like You know to make is some of the height going into the game But what what do you see from that group in particular that Boeys you going into this offseason?

Yeah, when you can when you have corners that you can count on Again, it's just like having defensive tackles In the run game when you have corners you can count on that are going to compete all the time no matter what the situation And we've developed that again, it changes the way you call the entire game. I mean you You're able to leave those guys on an island You're able to switch up coverages And they know what they're doing and they take great pride in it. So Having those guys out there in the development. It's a big deal. It really is Yeah, I mean he's He did come in late and You know He's one of those guys that just competes every day doesn't say much You know he's trying to live up to the standard of the other guys And you see him coming along, you know, you see him step by step coming along and and you know put him in a

You know competitive atmosphere same step up. That's a great sign and final question for coach Noel's Dan Hope 11 warriors You mentioned CJ Hicks a few minutes ago Have you seen him take the strides you need to see the spring to trust him as a guy who could be a potential starter on his defense? Yes, I mean I think CJ has shown that He has talent and I think it's my job to put him in the best situations for him because he can be a force You know he's much better when he's blood-sing or he's directed because he's able to use his athletic ability But he has certainly shown that he's going to be able to help this defense coach. Thank you very much for your time All right, and we will bring offense of coordinator and quarterback's coach chip Kelly to the podium now will open up questions over to the left bill Rebenowitz Columbus dispatch at chip What are your just general impressions of the offense coming out of spring especially at quarterback

You know We'll look at all 15 so I think you know This day is is a big part of it, you know because it was the first time they were going to play some of those guys that were got to play in from the crowd And that was an amazing crowd and you get 80,000 for spring game Now you could see some of the young guys kind of looking around like wow. This is different than the indoor um, but that's what they have to get ready to play it so um We got better from practice one practice 15, you know, it's still an evaluation through the whole process, but It's not something and in the players though too that we're not making a decision walking off the field today saying Hey, this is the direction that we're going in will we'll be very authentic and and look through everything and make sure that we get a really good feel for what it all looks like and then Who will best move this offense? That's that's what our decisions gonna do. So I do I think we got a lot of guys there um that parts tough. I think because you got it There's guys that deserve reps, you know, and they're all competing for it So you know, sometimes you'd like to be sometimes when you had a guy who was an initial starter Well, he's gonna get the bulk of the reps to get him better, but um

They capitalize on and we really rolled them, you know, if you were at some of our screen praxis You're watching all those guys rotate in rotate out And as we talk about all the time, you know, the old attitudes is don't count your reps make your reps count You know, and we'll put it all together and really come up with you know, which guy do we really feel is gonna make gonna help us move this offensively Over to the far right bill landis the podcast kings of the north Hey chip you some of me first talked to you that the the basis of a lot of your success running the football Just kind of figuring out what your guys do best and then leading into that over 15 practices now How good of a field do you think you have for that and then what did the next few months look like as you try to Piece that all together? Really good question um It's It's interesting because the one thing that I think Sometimes makes tough and an evaluation is what a good front we want to get Um, you know, so for 15 practices Those guys on the other side of the ball were pain, you know Jack and JT and tylie can those guys, but I know come fall There's not gonna be anybody more happy that we have those guys on the defensive side of all because of what they can do so

Um, I still think we'll have to really evaluate that what we're good at what we're not what we got to get better on what we got to work on But I think the work we got against such a quality defense was uh was really key for us Over to the far left Nathan baird cleveland calm so you were going this time Came out of the spring with still a lot of question marks about the offensive line Um, and even I guess that last season came out with question marks Where have you seen that progress in the time that you've been here and and what's your confidence level that that offensive line is gonna allow this offense to do Everything it wants to do this fall. Yeah, I mean, I've been here Short amount of time so I didn't know I really don't have anything to compare to so I kind of Tabula rassa come in with a blank slate and just observant. I think we're really athletic Um, I think Donnie and and and Seth and those guys inside are really smart and really intelligent Um, they allow you to to be able to make adjustments in game um Just tucking football with some of those guys. It's like while there's these guys are wired the right way And a lot of those guys have played a lot of football so um, they can bank on their experience there

You know, I think we We've got about four guys that have played significant amount of snaps and we got to make sure we can find out who the fifth guy is Um, but that's similar to where the quarterback spot is. I think and I also think of the offensive line You're not going to play a 16-17 game season and just play with five guys You know, you really have to develop your depth there Um, there's gonna be a number two center that's gonna play a lot of football There's gonna be a number two guard whether it's on either side of the ball There's gonna be a third tackle. I think you you're gonna get tested especially with this new in this new playoff format You really have to think that way so you know, you're not looking for five starters You're really looking for ten starters because you're gonna have to you're gonna have to probably play ten guys to get when you get through a 16-17 game season Over to the right Austin Ward the podcast chip. I think it was the first play of the game the T formation and then the reverse center of spin move with Will Howard Understand what's the inspiration for that package and that sort of uh rink of what the quarterback mr. Hayes G has uh There's a looming figure around this whole program. You know, we get to go to work every day and the Woody Hay's athletic center So um, it was good enough for Woody. We're gonna stay with him. We're gonna do it

We ran some last year. I think we took 21 snaps at UCLA and T Been a short yarded formation for us and we've done some different things with it, but um I also, I think our players had a lot of fun You know practicing that and doing some different things so um It's a small part of our offense, you know, we will not be in the T 21 times in one game, but you know, we may get it in some short yarded situations And I think it's come back. There's a lot of schools right now that Um are starting to do that. You know, it's really just you're trying to you know, you got a half a yard to get You know, you're trying to get your big guys in the game and I think we use three tight ends and and two running backs in our formation today with Packard being the the fullback in that situation. So um, there's a lot of different things you can do in show yardage, but um A little bit of a tribute to coach coach Hayes and and then what he means to this program Joey Kaufman Columbus dispatch over to the left ship. Did you look back now? You've been here two months 15 spring practices There's something you feel best about what you've been able to accomplish with this offense Well, I haven't accomplished anything because I didn't take a snap, but um

I think the most impressive thing since I've been here is how close close this football team is You know some programs talk about a brotherhood. This is really a brotherhood Our practices as we talked about how good our defense is it's they're highly competitive, but they're not combative and and those guys Really work very very well together both the old line and the D line the secondary and the receivers Um, the competition is the but it's gotta be the best there is in the country You know and that makes you better But I think sometimes competition You know guys can lash out and it gets really combative and then all of a sudden the fight breaks out and the fight breaks out And we're trying to accomplish and get footballed them But I think the way these guys cooperate and work together as a group As a special bond and I think you're you're gonna need the the the closest team and the most connected teams on the ones that win Over to the right here Andy Baxter and Letterman are all chip obviously there's been a lot of talk about Jeremiah But a mecca is the big return in this group. He kind of reminded everyone what he can do today What's it been like working with him and what kind of weapon can he be for you guys? Good point and a mecca has reminded me and the other 14 practice sessions of what he can do

Special player, you know and and J. J. is a really talented player also But you know, I think I think all of the the whole group a Cornell tape That's some really good things watching him this spring and for all of them, you know, I mentioned it with the offensive line I I came in with the blank slate and I had no opinions formed Not that really just wide-eyed and just observant, but you know that I think that wide-receiver Is really special and I think there's a bunch of guys in there and again when you have to play multiple Multiple games after the regular season is over you're gonna make sure you're gonna need depth like that and in the fact that it's you feel a little bit Comfortable right now that we got some guys there that can make some plays on the perimeter And that really dictates how people are gonna defend you know, so You got a couple really good running backs, you know, so are they gonna load the box? Are you really gonna load the box and leave those guys in one-on-one coverage? Well then it's the quarterbacks responsibility to decipher that and get the ball of those guys So or do they at least a double covers a list of double coverage and now it's a little bit lighter box and you can run the ball so

Having too many weapons is a good problem to have second roll left pat Murphy 24-7 sports chip we've talked a lot about kind of the quarterbacks maybe vying for the starting spot But some of the younger guys what have you seen from them? We got an opportunity to see more of them today Then we probably have what's your assessment of them as they kind of get in this I I always And so impressed with Young guys that enroll early in watching how they get acclimated and what they do, you know When you look at Julian and air and and JJ, you know, they should be in the hot lunch line of their high school And they're out here playing in front of 80,000 people and They've really progressed when you watch them in meetings and listen to them and they interpret, you know, so Basically the whole concept here is we throw them in the deep end and see if they can swim You know, this we didn't baby anything. We don't put the install in with hey you guys are in stock We're an install this with the older players and then you guys, you know, go sit at the kitty table And we're just gonna do the really simple things with you know, they get it all in

The more they can digest the more when you're in a room when you're checking for understanding and asking questions And they can spit back to you the more confidence you have when they get in there with the plays that you can call for them. So Those guys have been impressive. They're still learning, you know, they were the The guys today that were kind of looking around and saying, wow, there's like 80,000 people here Along with the offensive coordinator in the quarterback coach because I was kind of looking around because I had actually never been in the stadium until yesterday when we had Um our 14th practice in there. So I played Ohio State once when I was at Oregon, but that was in the Rose Bulls hide and never been actually In the stadium until yesterday. So I caught myself when I went into the stadium today looking around saying 80,000 for spring game. That's impressive Got time for just a few more folks over here to the right Dylan Davis Delaware. Is that given what you just said about throwing them into the deep end What stood out the most about Julian's progression through 15 practices and where he is as you guys head out of spring? Julian is a very fast processor You know, he really thinks very very quickly on his feet like he

He makes really quick decisions. He doesn't stick on and read he can progress and any sees things really well for For a young player, you know, and not having been exposed to a lot of college defenses and especially What Jim does, you know Jim Jim can make Jim can make a young freshman quarterback Cry with some of the stuff he does, but you know, I never saw that with Jules and I I that's been in press of his his ability to retain and You know him and JJ the compliment I would say them is if you got here and you didn't know what class they were and you wouldn't say that those guys Refreshman in terms of how they've picked things up and and you know sometimes freshmen act like freshmen But the guys who are special they don't act like freshmen, you know, they act like their football players and those are two guys that are For example, so far left Cameron T. Robinson the athletic chip you on the topic of freshmen James people's exam Yeah, yeah, you talk about how deep you need to be in this era of college football, but As you search for our B3 what did you see from them today and what is what is their growth been like in this spring?

Yeah, James really flashed early for for me not knowing again kind of let's just take Don't worry about what the background is where they're from who they are Did this guy have this stars? That's kind of that stars. It's they're all bakai some just how they do and I think James has got really good feel and vision He can hit things. I thought sand is some really good things today TC is another guy who really came along during the spring and in work constantly talking in Our staff meetings about depth. We're very cognizant of the fact that the playoff situation has changed So you have to develop that depth, you know Used to be maybe have a parent of spare was what everybody says, but I think you may have to have more than that You know you're talking about 16-17 games You're you're really gonna be tested that way so I was really happy with with how those young guys have come along You're in the 15 training sessions that we've had over here to the right Tim made the Tim May podcast Thank you, Jerry. You have your own podcast. Yeah, yeah, like these guys all had like a name next to their

You must have some juice if you got you got your name in your podcast definitely By the way, I like it. It's not just the lunch last hot lunch last night. It's a hot lunch line Just too quick. He's number one. Do you feel compelled to let these quarterbacks know where they stand here? You know, it's coming up Tuesday, you know to mean there. Yeah, you know Where does that go? I mean in your mind Yeah, we'll sit down as a staff and visit meet on it and then mine Maybe he does an unbelievable job of I think all our players understand where they fit and what what the picture is and we'll give them our assessment This isn't you know, we're not gonna come back and but we do it after every day They know where they stood after practice one after two after three after four we grade everything They're getting constant feedback in terms of where we are and then after 15 which we had today But but we we can't do it unless you watch the film and can can really look at the The things because you may see something but you're on the sideline You know, why did he make that decision? Well, I couldn't really see the field safety from where he was Okay, now I understand why he made that decision. So um, you know

But they'll we'll have meetings with all our players and that's that's always been the method. So this week during um, you know between Uh One day through Friday. We're all scheduled. No one's going on the road recruiting until after that But we're all clear meetings at every position You know offensive line defensive line linebacker safety is everybody everybody's gonna sit down with their position coaches Know where they fit and we see them But do you feel a pressure with with the transfer portal looming? I mean you know you've been a head coach for a long time I mean is that on your mind at TSD? Yeah, I think I'll do it together. We're aware of it and I'm 100% and I don't think it's pressure Um, but I think you just open lines of communication and everybody knows you know, which What your evaluation was through the the training sessions that we have guys we got to have we got real quick Last two questions Dan Hope and then Rob all are Feel like you need to have a starting quarterback named by and whatever biggest things you're gonna be looking for between now and then and determining who that guy's gonna be Well between now and and whatever then is we're not allowed as coaches to go back out

In practice with them you know and in college football you get 15 training sessions in the In the offseason and then they'll go back to work and with Mick in the in the weight room and getting bigger getting faster getting stronger They'll have organized activities themselves Um, and they they do a really good job of that um, but once there's a football out like we're not allowed to be there to evaluate and even assess So they're really from a football standpoint on their own until August so um You always want to do it earlier? But I also believe every time I've I've been involved in this is that it kind of happens organically and authentically You know because the players know And if you say hey, I we decided we're gonna be with Joe and they all think it's Tim You know they know they're in the locker room with them every day players Players understand, you know who they'd feel is the guy and and most of the time it it The decision is very obvious, you know, and you just say hey, this is where we are with it, you know Um, but There's that timetable thing. I don't I don't I can't give you an exact timetable in that so Rob

Chip um, you talk about Julian, but typically in your experience you've done it again like Tim said a long time Long does it take for the game to slow down for for a young QB? I think it depends on the individual, you know, I've had some kids Um, where early, you know, you were like wow Marcus Murray, Oda was like that Remember vividly second practice and he got to the fifth reading the progression and threw it out here in his big game And I asked him why I do that. I asked why because I just want to understand it And I said why did you do that? And he goes I don't know what we call that defense, but there was like a lot of guys over there And they didn't seem like there was anybody over there But for him to process at that father. He was right And he came back the other day whether that was cover six the other day coach I learned what you guys call the coverages But um, it all happens differently. I've got guys that for two years seem like They're just you know They're really struggling and then the light bulb goes off and you know, whoa like they got it so Everybody has different learning styles

You know our job and the evaluation process is to identify those learning styles So you know, they cognitive learn they an auditory learner, you know, do they do they learn by field is it is it more? You know a field guy you know a more film guy, you know, it's all different And I think we have to keep poking and prodding in in in for us as coaches. That's the challenge too is what is their best learning style and how can we convey it because education basically is just a transportation knowledge But it really doesn't matter what I know or what Ryan knows it matters what they know so That's that's always kind of what we're working on and studying and thinking about and kind of where we are and How much can they handle and then how much is too much you know Because this may be a great play I agree 100 percent but if you don't feel it's a good play Then then why is it in you know I mean and that's that's this whole feeling up process that we're all they're learning awesome. We're learning them This is have identities so to coaches really Running quarterbacks. That's something you've always sort of lean toward or is it year by year case by case

What advantages do you like about because all your guys can run a little bit? Yeah, I think a running quarterback causes problems for defense So when when plays break down the unscheduled plays you know if you just go back to the recent Super Bowl On that last drive the two big plays were my home's run But Patrick my home's another runner Andy's not calling design quarterback runs for Pat But when the defense matches up and plays two men and turns their back to the quarterback Well, maybe the best decision is to take off you know the second one he took out. I'm like he may score You know a lot of guys go and they want a hook side You know and and there's times where you have to understand if you do have a running quarterback If we talk about the best available the best ability is availability You know you're not lowering your shoulder and taking people on but we are always looking for quarterbacks that have the ability to run We're not looking for running backs that can throw you know, so you're not gonna see us 20 times a game we're running the quarterback and there are people that run it offensive styles and are really successful with it

But with this group we have right now that's not now they can hurt you with the feet We'll did it when he was at case date, you know Obviously Devon took off a couple times today air took off a couple times today Lincoln's a really really good athlete Julian can run but you know, we're not calling design quarterback runs You know you're not gonna see You know I tremendous reminder respect for co-chays and the legacy that he left here This straight T is about as far as we go. We are not going single wing So we are not gonna snap and run quarterback ISO and quarterback power. So But it is a it's another weapon, you know, and if it also keeps defenses honest You know if your defensive and is gonna continue to bend from the quarterback pulls it he's on the edge and he's gaining first downs Within the defensive and has to stay outside and contain the quarterback Well, then we can run the ball up and hand the ball off sometimes in our running game our quarterback really is a blocker He's responsible for a defender if the defender is cheating and fitting in on the run Then his responsibility is to make make the defense be honest and and that's really air did that a couple times today And we had a block the safety was sticking his face in there

So we took off around the edge what happens in next play the defense is wider Then what do we get to do? We got to get a chance to hand the ball off to the running man Coach, thank you so much for your time and thank you for being a buck. I Thanks. It was definitely addressed here You know this three season. I think Austin, Sarah. They'll stepped up in a big way. You know with without it being out Um, and and then you know, you know, you know, Carson can play both guard and center, which is good Um, and you know, we've actually you know Sen has done a nice job as well um, but it was good to see Austin, you know, he moved from guard to tackle a couple times and even with the ones He was in their battling his tail off. So um, I think we have built some depth there But again, you know, we got to go play some games and see where that rob all our time What's the main thing you want to see out of here? Yeah, you know again, whether it's whatever happened last year is last year But I know that the message to our to our offensive line is we want to play one of the hardest playing offensive line of the country No, we got to play with technique But at the end of the play like knock the line of scrimmage back and play with your hair on fire as hard as you possibly can

There's a lot that goes with the playing in the offensive lines all the communication is a lot of things that have to get into place I think Seth has done a nice job of communicating understands the offense better now He takes control up front and brings everybody together Well, which is great, but but to me like that's it now we could list a bunch of other things But to me we've got to move the line of scrimmage We've got to be just playing with our hair on fire and knocking people back and playing physical Um, and that's the start the game that's the end of the game No, no, I don't see it that way at all. I think Um, you know, we'll see what we got this year, but I feel like you know, we've got some really good young players in the system I think that You know, we should have the best offensive land in the country. That's that's the standard here Has been for a long time and um, you know, and so you know, we'll keep pushing towards that this year and You know, I think you know, everybody in that room and tight the same thing Uh, Tony Gerbin

Yep, so uh, sunny has really stepped up and played well. He's made this transition from safety to linebacker Very well. I think he did a nice job in the spring, but you could definitely see as he went into the the summer It's just you know bigger stronger Being more comfortable closer to line of scrimmage. It's different when you're closer to line of scrimmage He's doing a better job getting his you know hands on on You know, on offense alignment and getting off of blocks. He's in a better job doing a better job with his hands Like he understands the communication the linebackers always have to be involved at the front They're gonna be involved and fitting to the back end. He's doing that Um, you know, I think he's you know looking forward to play Playing in a game and you know, get an idea of what it all looks like But I can tell you in practice. He's playing fast. He's playing violent and I think he's you know He does a nice job of taking the meeting to the field being very intentional about his work, but playing really hard Yeah, I haven't talked to Jim because you know, we'll make that final decision here over the weekend, but

He's certainly leader in the club us Can you tell Ryan? I mean Seth McLaughlin can tell he's been there done that is he as he projected that To the offensive line here still and I'm saying from a leadership standpoint a grown man Yes, how does that just come up? How does that show up? Uh, a bunch of ways it just poised. It's Not getting rattled when you know coach parks at you. It's you know, okay. I got this let me get it under control It's seeing something in practice and being able to adjust on the move. It's Being prepared when you walk on the field It's Recognizing how hard you have to play at the position. It's You know kind of all of those things into one He's got great communication up front he talks to the guys He's moving quickly in there and when you have experience like he has you know, the game seems to slow down at times yet You know, he seems to be playing it off at a fast lover I spent your whole breath

It was a point where you got a black stripe off and I feel like he took a step in the right direction when you come in in the summer It is very difficult to get on the field especially early in the season Whether he does or not I will see But if he continues to practice the way that he's been practicing then he'll give himself a chance to be in the rotation Middleway through the season Or later in the season which is similar to some of the Milwaukee series we've had before you know You've seen some of those guys get some reps really in the season that then make an impact later in the season I think that's probably more His path right now. You know, it shows up and starts doing great and you know, we'll You know, we'll give him the reps he deserves Where like Jeremiah is in a different situation because he came in here in January and he was a little bit ahead Anybody who comes in and January to me, I don't look at them as a freshman anymore They've been here during the program and we expect them to contribute

You're still in there right there I'm talking and communicating but um in the skirmishes we've had it's you know, it's it's been offense versus defense So I've mostly been in the offensive side still kind of going through all those types of things And there's a lot to work through this year just with you know the play clock and then Um, it's one of me by that is you know the close play communication inside of 15 goes off There's a lot of things that go on there and we don't really get notification on that So I'm trying to you know just help trip with that and some some communication that way personnel But I'm going to be very much involved with special teams. I think with a two-minute warning There's some strategic things that are going to go on again and again that you know, you gotta really be involved with But to your point just overall just looking guys in the eye making sure that you know Uh, they have to write looking their eye to you know that you know, they they understand um You know with the situation what's going on in the game, you know I think that happens sometimes the young players, you know, they're just like playing the next play

You know and that's not just how that's not how it works We'll get to win the situations and so you know all those things will come into play and making in game adjustments You know be involved with on all three phases, you know watching You know the game of the table to try to identify what happened the last series I think all those things would be happening Right now uh Nick is going to be the starter And you know that that competition going to next week, but Right now as we head into the weekend that he is the starter And the plan is ready to go First ponder to go up and go on Saturday and tacker He's got a strong leg. He's he's made it um a good transition into Yeah country, but also just playing you know football um and not Australia was football, which is very very different um The um you know snap to kick has really improved, you know That was one thing as he's a taller guy. So the ball has to get out of his you know good off his foot faster

I think he's done that um his hang time has been good And he's been more consistent You'll see you know he'll he'll kick a few that'll just go right out of the stadium They just got a strong strong leg So we're looking for that consistency. He's he's shown that here most recently So he's got the upper hand right now I don't know if it's because Will maybe took a little bit longer to make a decision in December than some of the other Top of the line quarterback you want to do it or because maybe there was a thought he wasn't going to be the starter It can't just take this year But it seems like people have viewed him kind of as a game manager type of quarterback After eight months with him Where do you see his ceiling or what what what is Will's special trait to you and where do you see him take himself? I see You know a bunch of trades there. I think the first trade is size is big He can stand in the pocket and he's strong Um, so I mean that's the first thing you notice about him again Whether it's standing in the pocket with poise. I think that's another trait that he has that's excellent

He he feels the rush Um, but he stands right in there. I think the next trade is just you know his his top end speed And he can run 22 miles an hour at that size which Uh, there's not a lot of guys who can do that. I think that's an extraordinary trade And I would I would say his overall leadership commands and the huddle is is another You know, it's something that he's he's really you know grown into in the last few months when he's been here And then his accuracy he's been very accurate since he's been here Um, and when he knows what's going on and he can anticipate what's happening I mean it looks right just feel it and and he can hurt you you know a bunch of different ways So um, you know, his ceiling that that's that's going to be kind of you know up to how he plays the season but You know, I see a player who has a lot of great skills that you know translates well to the next level So yeah, we'll see but I know his first focus is on winning games around here

plays Meaning I'm nursing naturally. So that's first complete. I was good. I was just rolling Also, it's a weird mean Yeah, um You Yeah, it's like I prepared well um And camp and practice all week and I was I was ready um, yeah, I have two multi-year starters I Did a lot. I mean I could ask them. Hey, what we got here, but I was prepared well. I mean I was telling Jimmy and says like a Why are blocks? Probably emotional side of it. What's a guy from Ohio? What does it mean to start a game? Um, it was always my dream to come here and play and start and Having that play mean I just like keep going keep building those days and those games and keep building Like what a much younger Austin

No, not I don't think Even I told like me I asked my younger self Even committing and I wouldn't believe that now having a couple of starts Awesome has this happened faster than you I Know I knew that year two I was gonna see you some playing time Now starting week one year two. I didn't see that but like I was ready Didn't spring ball like a new I was gonna place something But It's not only in the opportunities of play but I Guess it shows like my preparation my hard work and just everything I put into this and I just finally showing up on field There are moments

Yeah, uh, the definitely was in training camp Means blocking highly can tie every day Like it feels you feels a lot of confidence and doing it well and not like getting Balled or anything Hero in Jason Moore and Taiwan all those guys mean pretty much anyone on the deepened line Okay, Mack is a little so yeah He helped me a quite a lot and I'm proud that he's our starting center not someone else's but um Mean he's like the captain of the line. He's another voice on the line With guys like Josh Fryer and Josh Simmons dining and Tiger that means another voice and another captain Look ways of having the men are with this much experience help Yeah, a lot he can tell you like before to play what's going on and like how to block someone like we need to do and like

That's a lot It makes us more calm like especially me and pay as a first star so like we were up here What what said like he brought us down mean weird like five like our emotions weren't high we were selling Is that like something he tells you is that something you pick up on by how he's acting? How do you kind of mean sense what he's trying to say about how he's acting and what Mean him when we're on the side of him both Josh Donnie like he was telling us like a cool like we got it It's pretty much like oh everyone old cool group I said how much do the as a first time starter how much of the end that mean a lot That was my first time ever using high pads. We didn't use the iPads in high school But I mean you can say like try to remember the defense you just come on a silent bring them we'll play and get help

Probably the first or second after the I thought we say oh Awesome. Thank you very much That's um I wouldn't I want to say Maybe I don't know but I mean when I when I'm pretty sure you got the job I was really excited because I'm one of those guys is the tempo I can run with the tempo You know I mean I'm I'm playing basketball all I can set a football and I feel like Just the fast pace often so we're running really fits the guys we have right now. I'm really excited for that I know you can throw a football x65 guys but can you kick a football 75 years ago? Lincoln what was your question? How is your Your roommate? He's a blessing man. I can't complain. He's a great guy. What's his name? He's linking clean hoes Oh I think we're both really clean and that's why we kind of picked each other's roommates because we're very clean

We don't like our rooms really messy Well it's true though it's the truth the rope pretty clean stuff Luke are you still a cross-training at Tagel some or if you just been all-guard this prank? Oh so far I've been all-guard um I really don't know like I said I'm taking it practice by practice I could end up being back at Tagel I could not but No I'm just really focused in on this past practice and the next one we've found I'm going to be in Yeah, oh that mean a lot um you know you put a lot of work in to play here and spend a dream just for being in Ohio kid is I'm from a high-oh kid's perspective It's I mean that's the biggest wish possible I would have I would say that's that'd be pretty cool What was it like this last year first game getting on the field for the first time? It didn't like this is gonna be a weird answer but it feels like I was playing a game yet that made sense I was pretty locked in I felt like just no anxiousness no stress no nothing really I just went in that first game was like shoot out here now it's time to roll you know It didn't really hit me I was like it didn't even hit me after but no mom was like

What'd you feel there and it's like getting out there at the end of it just like honestly I don't know I I felt less than there as I did in high school and that makes no sense You're curious about it Um a lot I mean I'm learning from Josh and Austin I think Friars is one of my biggest role models here is my bigger big brother my first game in here Tell him about Padilla? Yeah I don't know my name Padilla okay Yeah no yeah yeah so yeah Padilla and Austin those are my guys man I mean even Miles too I mean all three of them that's those are my roommates and they're progressing every day as well and I'm excited to see where they where they can get to I'm excited to plan and feel the time Oh yeah you know it's been really helpful you know just keep in my mind just settled and straight forward on the next play It's a great question um like I said I mean I just need to take consistent in my work I think that's the biggest thing for me is just thinking system and worry about the next blood

I think it's something that connects you to about those big runs you guys started turning out it's hand plus your head but it's gonna beat off each other Absolutely I mean when you see defensive when you see defensive start arguing with each other and things like that I mean nothing makes it a lot easier you know I'll have those 10-11 I'll play your opposite What does that like? This was so much of being started to feel like you guys were feeling about Padilla and Padilla First game I could play good on both of them they got good second match I mean it feels good to rip off these runs because I mean we put on so much work and it's a practice and you know seeing a product you know that hard work Tech reserve sense that just offensive line wise is y'all prepared this week the top of back in there that's y'all are old first time really this season You know it's not Prepicking Austin it's just more of down with Jackson preseason all-married and etc. I don't mean enjoying the group you know Dunn of the Jackson is a very good football player in there

When he's on the field he makes his presence felt I mean we've all been training on my home There's no margin just going through when you know We know it can be Yeah there's secret being there was a sixth who's watching you guys next week You know we're even more of a force It felt like watching you guys Then maybe even if you feel like that Yeah, I mean we put in a work during practice we practice really hard Coach they really challenge us to practice hard Positions coaches really challenge us to practice hard So that's just a result of it But when it's rolling like that what does it feel like being in the mix of them? I mean it's a long one It's us it's When you work hard for something and you're able to see like What comes out of it like that's there's no better feeling No, I mean I was really funny to see

Tiger what what has set been off? I'm brought to you guys for the first two games What's it been like playing XN for the last two He's You know he's really Calm and start like you never see real panic and having a guy like that next to you and you know you're having really Play it as many meaningful snaps There's no one outside rather at some my left and some are right You know for and set those guys they do so much For this offensive line of People talk about his intelligence really kind of showing up in the film room and on the field Where have you noticed that intelligence and how is that helped you? Oh, yeah, like I said and in french time, you know when When things aren't exactly looking like how we practice it, you know We're having a guy like that We'll do this this this and then we execute having a guy like that like this There's none better than that

You wrote I'm What's my favorite Revell Uh-huh I almost came back with a couple of time to go some more Take a look at it Marshall Big 10 lot And Yeah, those those guys there they're real players there are real players They go hard, you know, they're real players over there We've been practicing to the best of our abilities, you know, and spectacular And I'm prepared for that They take They play they play a good ball over there and you know their defense plays hard

They they challenged teams, you know, sometimes they might be overlooked and they still challenge teams And so they come out there with the mentality like no matter who's in front of the I mean the actions right there right in front of you right now Which is kind of a good thing and kind of a bat thing Shake off the rest, you know, hitting back in it inside Yeah, I mean I hear from Chris every once in a while trying not to bother too much It's always it's always good to hear from guy like that guys like the one even Matt Jones returning back For this year to just be able to contend that job

I think it's a lot of my weight my just for my height is more regard height But I'm faster my feet and I just see what you can do right now Some still sometimes like basketball or want to be on that just like defend, but you know, you got to stay in the stage playing some balls Exactly Yeah, that's a great question. I mean I don't think I feel like these two can answer that for the beer right now I think KK here. I don't know what to say about that. What do you guys think? I go guys every day He doesn't give up on a player

Here he was He's done like a coach man. He's like a coach Chip Kelly's in full exchange your mind about maybe like the idea of tackle which is garden because obviously his Offensive predilection is for like yeah, offensive line play I want to say Maybe I don't know but I mean when I when I'm pretty sure you got the job I was really excited because I'm one of those guys who's the tempo I can run with the tempo You know, I mean I'm I've been playing basketball all life and set up a ball and I feel like Just the fast pace often so we're running Really fits the guys we have right now. I'm really excited I know you can throw a football like 65 guys, but can you kick a football 75 yards and click interesting? I probably Lincoln what was your question? How is your Your roommate? He's a blessing man. I can't complain. He's a great guy. What's his name's linking? Keen hoes

Oh I think we're both really clean That's why we kind of picked each other's roomies because we're very clean and we don't like our rooms really messy Well, it's true though. It's true. They're real pretty clean stuff Luke are you still cross-training in tackle some or if you just been all guard this spring? Oh so far I've been all guard um, I really don't know like I said I'm taking it practice I practice I could end up being back at tackle I could not but No, I'm just really focused in on this past practice and the next one Yeah, oh that mean a lot um, you know, you put a lot of work in to play here And it's been a dream just for being an Ohio kid is I'm from a Ohio kids perspective. It's I mean that's The biggest wish possible out if I would say that's that'd be pretty cool What was it like just last year first game getting on the field for the first time? It didn't like that's gonna be a weird answer, but it feel like I was playing a game yet if that makes sense I hit I was pretty locked in. I felt like just no anxiousness, no stress, no nothing really

I just went in that first game was like Shoot I'm here now it's time to roll you know It didn't really hit me. I was like it didn't even hit me after but my mom was like what'd you feel there? And if like getting out there at any end I just like honestly, I don't know I felt less nervous. I didn't ice go and I'd make some no sense Um a lot I mean I'm learning from Josh and Austin I think prior to one of my biggest role models here is my bigger big brother in my first major Tom up to deal. I don't want to do today. Okay. Yeah, no Yeah, yeah, so yeah to deal in Austin those are my guys, man I mean even miles to I mean all three of them that's those are my roommates and They're progressing every day as well on and I'm excited to see where they where they can get to I'm excited to plan the field with them Oh, yeah, you know, it's been really helpful. You know, just keep in my mind just settled and straightforward on the next blood What do you think the biggest It's a great question um like I said, I mean

The I just need to take consistent in my work. I think that's the biggest thing for me is just I can't wait about the next blood to my game and I was I was like whoa I never had that happen like no other school like just Ohio State first came in my game That was like wow, that's crazy. Do you like I mean I'm quiet but also do you like I do you want everything I do but at the same time I don't just like to be a normal person Yeah, I mean yeah, I want to feel I'm a little bit more chipy a little bit, but sometimes I still be quite Oh, I've been had that emissary I was like eight nine years old You haven't mean just high-end house or it just to be competitive That's the reason why chose to come to Ohio State just to compete each and every day Just to go against the best DB group in the country

Oh, yeah, for sure, just going to get them two guys the best two DBs in the country I mean that's the reason I came here Just going to get God just go made me better each and every day Yeah I did I said I said I said well he said I did when he defed little boy he said I'm here. I said okay I'm be back and that's some be bad. They want to be the play I just walked off Yeah, I said I told him coming back right Yeah I feel great just us three to be on the field together We gonna make a lot of plays this year All learned a lot especially from Cardinal because we both play outside So me just learning from him and know the things he learned he just teaching me and you know He was behind Mar and stuff like that. So he just teaching me the game for sure What specifically you got better at it?

I said my footwork that's the biggest thing I mean coach hotline was looking at that's one thing I need to get better on so I mean I just worked on that in all season and just got better Over time When still my work at the event I mean just I really don't know I can't really answer that but it just it's just in me like I just want to work That's one thing I think I say I get it from my dad my dad really the reason why I worked so hard because Since I was like eight years old he just wanted me to just work and be the best that what I do So I mean I really I said different my dad Yeah, yes I wasn't I wasn't flippin out of I don't know why people made the same idea with that I was a bad guy and that's it Oh, he said a big example on me me just I ain't gonna say it was only just my dad it was me I have a cousin's name

You know, it's very pretty for the Seattle Seahaw so I was I would look at the him as well I mean seeing what he was doing at West Virginia would take on Austin and St. Mary Bayley something he was a motivation for me And just all the guys that grew up before me and my regardless area Broward area for sure Me just looking at those guys guys like I say Brandon in us for sure he was class ahead of me So I seen the things he was doing in eighth grade and I was just like whoa, I mean that's something I want to do I really don't I mean I know it's big Especies for me because no one planned a country coming in and all the hype around me So I mean, I just try to block out all that stuff and just focus on the main thing just the team and I receive a room in the locker room And no just first game come if I don't Know see the especies and that y'all have for me. I mean, I don't really care. I just want to go out there when the game

I mean, it's something great. I mean, I just got I just got to go out then on the field and just show you guys that I could be the next No part of the group is great. Ohio State receiver to come through here. So I mean it's a blessing and know how that but I mean as I go out there and play and show you guys All means a lot for me to be was it the first freshman? Yeah, I mean just that's aggressive me for sure just no shows all the hardware that I put in off the main on the way Uh, my dad really The maturity um, no just The older than no ac my age I go to my age. Um, I mean a lot of people tell me that I don't act my age I'm way away beyond my way beyond my years. Um, I mean just You just gotta be mature and know at Don't I like it kid

You know Just no when I see a 50 50 ball me just I just think it's I gotta make the play and it's on me you know matter how the ball is Uh, if it's a bad ball, you feel like I gotta make that play no matter what the circumstances is you know matter It's a bad ball. I feel like the ball is mine no matter who in front of me or No, no matter what you're getting between the ball and fender come from I mean that kind of sets you apart in my opinions a lot of ways You always had that Oh, yeah, I did always had that next I was like since I started to parents here right like eight years old I just found the way to know Make sure that ball is mine when it's in the air and I just got always find a way to find a way to make my quarterback look good Oh, yeah for sure he definitely made a big jump from industry Um, I like this confidence Uh, he's starting to talk more talk a lot of mess on the field and I like that about my quarterback I love quarterback who like to talk and you know just get around his prayers and make me feel good about himself

Oh, he talked on the field uh, no, just You just said a lot of stuff. I can't say but he go talk for sure Jeremiah, thank you very much. Thank you guys Was on me my split was too. Why he wanted me to come my spit down so that I was that I was on me that wasn't a will There's also that play aside clear that will the offense Reckon is your single about one one brats man. They're willing to take that shot to you every time Were you expecting to have this bigger role in the offense this? Uh, not at all not at all just coming in no this is a high estate and just all the receivers that been here and I was here Before I got here so I did not have no Expectation those having the role that I had right now. So I mean, I just get all the things to go And then to be able to be in this position right now. Is that surreal to you then to to be putting up kind of numbers You already have oh, yes for sure. I mean, but no job nothing. I still got stuff to do me finish the hand

Um, he tells me a lot each and every day that you know single hot single uh covers one oh well I'm going to you don't matter who or you don't matter this don't about me. You school me. I just got to make a play as Is there a moment of spring or this in trinket or I say I say fall camp that's really when he was just Trusting me just throwing it out and I'm just going to go get it Yeah to why yeah Better what I should have cut my spit now I think I was you know, like bottom of the numbers. I should have been like Numbers plus numbers plus two I believe yeah something like that. So that's the reason why he just played over top and In a session You feel like a normal parchment. I mean

I Mean I love it. I still feel like I'm just a regular freshman, but you know a lot of people say I'm not but Um, I mean just the role that I have just coming in is just it's it's been a blessing. I just can't think Can't say it's on me is on guard and just the coaches for just me to have a put a freshman out there and just to go out and make plays And just build out Plank time Not that much you know you about car now take you got mecha boogal I came back you got bringing in that big hub you're all Jaden ballot all on guys so really my mentality of just coming in just working learning and just no play special teams and make plays on special teams

Um me just watching them they We better take them last three teams in place. So I mean it's gonna be better team that last couple years that We played a higher state play them as we could they say so man It's gonna be a good game. You gotta go to Be a higher state as always better be as a Oh, yeah for sure we hungry right now. I can see in the air body eyes Everybody in office always a long quarterback will however receiving we definitely hungry for sure We had to go out there and has a dinner and just put on the show I say be able not to make the catch anyway I fly everybody's throwing me. I have to catch it no matter how if the defender on me or not I just feel like I had to make a play no matter what um I mean I play Saturday. I feel like I could have caught it but you know It was a pass in the friends but it touched my hands. I should have caught it

Uh Dan, hold, let me worry Jeremiah there's a lot of uh discourse from fans this week about you not winning but Sean out because the end of the year or just What's your thoughts on that? Uh, I mean Me calling is a great player as well. I mean, I can't really not kill um no Sean is a great guy. I talked to him uh two weeks ago It's a great guy learned a lot of uh things from him outside of football as well So I mean, I really can't focus on that. I'm just worried about uh beating Oregon and uh Just going out there to pass a deal and just put on the show And You mentioned getting ragged is that frustrating Oh, yeah, for sure. I'm still over no matter what bracket or not. Um, I mean me they just came out with a good game plan To bracket me and a mecha and you know uh Me just no things didn't go as planned as we thought it would but you just got to keep moving on just move forward As I say Steven how I did 24 seven sports did you mind that the two touchdown plays that you had with Will Howard

How many times do you think you guys rep that to get you? Those were perfect throws perfect patterns and you beat your guy off the line of scrims. It's just how many times do you think? And what does it take to perfect that? Oh, I think we read the lease I don't know how many times and practice over the weeks that we had off um, I mean just came down to you know They press me we we taking a shot. That's what they told me uh the week we was off and he told me Her before the game in the locker room. I just got to give you a shot and that's what he did and I just made a play Uh, the first game against Oregon Just how tough was that challenge against their secondary? I know you have to pin them to get the end of the game But you guys made place all day long against them Just what what your thought about the challenge those guys gave you? Uh, I'll say the challenge is gonna be you know a good challenge They have some great global guys there Jabbar Muhammad number seven uh Niko Rhee uh the other corner of my nine over there A great global guys um, I mean probably the best we go see all year for sure Which you got a good name you know bill high old state that's all Tony

So what are you not open? You know probably when the whole team on me I should say uh uh I mean, I'm always open for to me for sure um me just no throw the ball in my area I'm gonna find a way to make a play as I was saying Step on christening please one dot com you talked earlier about you know some of the great athletes that you got Challenge and you aspire to be like I guess Where's that confidence kind of come from for you? How long have you had that confidence that you know you have the ability to be You know one of the greatest in this sport uh I mean a lot of people told tell me that I'm gonna be great at what I do um since I was about um Going into high school a lot of people tell me that um me just you know Football is all I know and that's all I really want to do like I live breathe sleep football like that's all I really care about don't care about Everything outside of football like football is all I know and I just want to play football rest my life

Do Um, I mean just you know the weeks that we had all we were just working on deep deep shots uh because they tell us uh Emiliance that we have uh, we got to take shots down fill um We just got to connect on them and no will tell me before uh before the games like I said um You just got to throw the ball out then just give me a chance and I'm gonna make a play for you That's what that's what you told me and I just got to make a play for We can all joke we can all talk about the expectations and the start of this become You know you were just 13 games How you handled that? I mean just a freshman How do you take all these expectations? No, when you step on the field that you're always open and still go out there and play? Uh, I mean Expectations, I mean, I can't know how you stay for a reason. That's what I wanted um when it be challenged. I wanted the Especitation. Especitation, I should say um I mean coach hotline just helped me uh throughout the whole year

Just preparing me for each game each week Uh, mecha, buka Carneltae Brendan and it's really the whole receiver on just helped me Stuff I don't really know about uh, it just helped me throughout the whole week and you know I can't really say as all of me because my talent is but they really been a big part of the reason I'm having the season that I'm having for sure I am your gillux Jeremiah over a thousand yards When you look back at your freshman year, what was the most difficult part about adjusting to the college game? What was the part that you had the you know the hardest part about trying to train this one? Uh learning that playbook I playbook a certain else uh just coming in uh spring ball Uh, mecha's new plays in every week. I'm like well, what is this like this new plays every day in coach hotline like you we go You gonna be good. Uh, we got no summer fall camp. You gonna be great. So I mean Just you know That's it. That's definitely was the hardest part just learning to playbook and a lot of other things have to say for sure

Uh, I'm pretty I'm pretty sure I got it down pat right now, but uh net season I really want to learn everything the hz Uh, yeah, I really want to learn everything in the uh playbook for net share for sure That would be 247 sports You mentioned How many guys in my table you did not feel over so when you are one-on-one And wills talk about what he sees you be one-on-one. What is going through your mind as you wind up and realize? There's one guy covering When that's all I could say When that's a uh coach hotline uh, we do something like in a hotel uh Friday night before again He asked me like a question like you get one-on-one something like that. He asked me uh, what do you do? I say when and everybody just start laughing. I don't know where every like it's just true like you got a one-on-one Uh, about so uh, where are you from the right? Bill Landis? Kings of the North Jeremiah, did you move to your rounds? I'm gonna send a seat to the point where You get a couple matchups against linebackers. Yeah. Uh, what goes through your mind when you find yourself matched up against a linebacker? Uh, I just start laughing in my head a little bit um, um, I mean linebackers can't really cover

receivers like that so I just know like it's I'm most likely gonna be open Um, but you know they just try to move me around a lot because you know people try to bracket me when I'm outside Just alone by myself. So that's why they're moving me around a lot Or less they'll have been born the last year Jeremiah you mentioned the most difficult part of your freshman campaign has been learning the playbook What has been the best part so far? I was gonna rub off on people eventually um, and I would also say that You know, you kind of have to understand who you're talking to, you know people Certain stuff makes different people tick so you gotta gotta know your guys You know if you gotta get harder on somebody to to make them go or if you got to kind of relate to them and you know Pull them aside have to talk so I think that all goes Into leadership and you have to be able to that has to be a skill that you have to be able to do Um, I want to say you know too much has has necessarily changed But you can tell the as tremendous trust in coach Kelly um, and what he's what he's gonna do in the

Kind of the schemes and everything that he's brought into our program. So um, the fact that you know, he has such confidence in him and his by calling ability makes us tremendously confident so Coach days has always been coached in Eastern continue to stay that way Um, but I'm glad he's able to you know focus more on what he needs to focus on Okay Um, he's kind of a field general in a sense kind of the quarterback on that side a lot of people might may think just you know The Mike linebacker we have Cody Simon who does that as well, but um Caleb's kind of that for our secondary Kind of make sure things are clicking on all cylinders and he's just a very cerebral kid very smart And he's able to kind of take control of the defense. So make make the right calls make the right checks So he's definitely annoying for the office to deal with but it makes us better You I would say impacting time offense um, it's not like you know, we're not oblivious to the fact of the caliber player he is but um

You know as as an offense you you come out and you expect to execute on anybody who's lined up a question Yeah, I never really thought about it like that, but um, we definitely come on come a long way Since my freshman year To the Lord they just came you know these years and come ahead on straight and allow me to you know, develop into the person that I am now But so you know coming full circle it is really surreal moments to be in my senior year plan against you know So it's really cool I remember I remember Kyle getting yelled at he was a ball. He was not supposed to throw and I also remember I'm getting pushed out at like the one or two year online. So that's kind of a bitter sweet memory But um, it was a great memory I mean, I have to say yes if I don't think I should store down thing I should be playing football Who's a my

Yeah, my little came in he kind of has all the intangibles over the receiver You can tell you just love the game the way he goes about his business. Um, he runs every route to perfection He's a you know very cerebral kid And every time he gets on the field he expects perfection. So um, he's just got to continue to develop continue to work and I'm really excited to see what he's doing for us Yeah, um, I think you know It's no secret that he has all the physical capabilities that you would want to receive a really any position You could play any position on the football field with his athletic ability, but um, so a lot of it for him Was putting together the mental piece of the game, you know, not just understanding what he has on a specific play, but the whole concept Um, understanding defense is all that type of stuff. So um, there's nothing really that can get you ready for that moment for your first Navi college because it is different than high school, but um, you know, once he wants to get acclimated gets used to it I don't know. I have no doubts. He's gonna take off for us and do tremendous things

Yeah, I mean, it's been a it's been a huge part of everything that we've done But a huge part of a lot of the reasons why the seniors came back and everything like that So we have a team Bible study that we continue to do and continue to grow We kind of just preach his truth of the gospel to the guys on the team and Is definitely permeated throughout the team throughout the years because you know looking back a couple of years ago There wasn't that many people on the team heavily into their faith And along came a couple special people who really changed the dynamic of our program, but You know, the Bible says one man plans the other man was but God ultimately brings it increased So we're just trying our best to stay obedient to the Lord and he's done tremendous things What those two special people you Um, I'll say kind of the the the founders. I'll say of the team's faith Um, we're definitely Masterteague for one Uh, Cameron Bab and Xavier Johnson, so those guys Um, really What I view my responsibility as a captain is just as a as a person in general is to push Um, everybody closer to Christ

And you know by doing that I try to walk as close to Christ as I can myself I'm kind of be that example and be that life for people look up to Um, and I think all the the basic principles that are found in the Bible and you know, try to appreciate Christ We naturally naturally make you a better leader better person better football player in a sense So I just try my best to anyway I Yeah, I mean we have specific goals going into every single week Um, some of our goals for this week is you know, things can get sloppy in the week one you see it all across the country Um, you know, false starts penalties all these type of stuff

So we're really just trying to be clean go out there play a fast complete football game Um, clicking on and firing on all cylinders. So um, by no means are you as underestimating it and your opponent We go out there on the field every Saturday expecting to pull out whoever lines up across from us So that's just our mentality. So we're going to hold you to that Yeah, very very unseries guy very funny guy Um, kind of lines the room when he walking when he walks in and um, he's just he's a true joy to be around Um, you can kind of throw will into any setting and he's gonna get along with everybody there. So um, definitely up the uh the team chemistry locker room. We love having him around. So we're super glad he's part of this team. But when the ball did come out you guys were efficient in the passing game. 13 and 16 13 playing years for the temperature. What allowed is the passing effect to stay

That's the left thing as even the off-the-line will be from the The ball just had to come out quicker and for but we have to see every day. There was a lot of the time to get in that And they're running faster and quicker How much do you feel like that game can be a building block for you in terms of continuing to be a big and big party? Uh, I feel like each game of building blood was a stack each game and stuff like that. So this uh, I just made bigger plays in games I just thought I guess another building block from the mad Oh, they've been doing pretty good. They've been made not in stuff like that new guys new places and stuff like that We're all trying to pick up um from the injuries and stuff You guys Oh, we do got a good end getting the box from the water. You guys get in there probably get the safety get live backers or at the end It's up like that whatever they need you got to do On your touchdown catch so this is like a system ball allows to come down Uh, they came Extremely into the wind

Apparently what's it like? You three of the ball is going to be coming in sooner or later this year Got three big time I've received it made in four five Figured it would find you a significant and significant time. Yeah, I knew it was all come my way each and every week We have plays for each and all of us in stuff like that It just really depends on what the difference gives us Players to give us one thing and it's not a ball goes away from me or comes to me and stuff like that Ultimately is not in my decision You're blocking Yeah, our blockers from the wide-out has been a big emphasis this year stuff like that because we like that pretty much all last year They're big episodes of blockers here from the water and when you look at pinstay on video What just stands out about there maybe their past with fastwoods Which you're going to be personally up against They are pretty good-sellers. They play man alive and stuff like that So we got to win our 101's outside of the perimeter I'm similar to today

I'm pretty much the same Oh, man covered all around they got a little size on the foot and stuff like that. Uh, they all probably pretty much the same size all around Thank you guys Oh Bye guys, I'd say Bennett pressure is off the way he kind of brings some good energy Jace Middleton right there too. Yeah, he kind of overseas maps of long for a little bit That's pretty fun And then catching we all have some pretty good opportunities for catching especially practice we're going to make some pretty touches Definitely competitive but the good way we're all there support of We all know our strength and we're all going to have to practice We're working with each other and hoping to get better because we all know that we're moving to other Well, let's see if it's going to be all season

I If you're not It's Yeah I mean

I I mean, I want to really say I was doing the toughness that's going and counting So I would say our Yeah, how much

Being 20 minutes from home is pretty nice and my dad playing here I would say Get a family Yeah When things ramp up Yeah, it does It's

You know Big guy I I But there's there's moments Like when we had a big run at Notre Dame on When you Like You know

So I You know, they're quickness kind of helps me get my I No So

I So I would say during mid spring after spring Yeah, I said okay, I'm gonna be better at this. I had a really good summer really good fall camp And I A year ago Uh, whatever I like

Yeah, I mean Yeah, I mean I mean I said there's a better In the going of Stammery, working my hand For a year I think not I'll be able to play It We were different We were 26 Down

We do do Do you feel like there's just an opportunity for all of you in the tight end Yeah, we're at this cave for sure, but you know, we're You know, we're I mean it It shows how what we have going on at the highest day and I'm not working Of course, we have a program. I mean, they I gave on national program Said I'd be able to show the power To For This week until Cody said maybe that started last week Before Iowa, your thoughts on how you guys move back Who you hear this weekend? I think going back to this our foundation of the team As a team We believe that we're built on toughness It's one thing to say, but I believe that we show a weekend we got when we showed toughness

But to your point last week I believe you know there was position groups that were challenged They were literally taking a personal but just challenged to practice harder Let's see how hard can we practice And so I think ever since then there has been another step that we've taken But that's the whole goal. I mean, I hope in two or three weeks from now there's even another step that we take forward For where we are now. That's just the evolution of getting better at the team And I think one thing I've noticed with this football team is I think every single week we play We've continued to get better but I mean that's just life right I mean, the thing you continue to do you have the hopes to continue to get better at it We're seeing that here with this football team as well I think when we talked to you in camp you said you were excited about how you guys are going to run the ball this year Yeah, you've done that At what point did they come clear to you guys are going to be able to kind of hang your path in front of the ball the way you are I just think we're such a balanced offense I think it's kind of going against our team Especially in specificity against our offense I think there's just too many things you have to remember

You've got to respect the perimeter and you have to respect the run game you have to respect the stretch Inside zone all the different things that we can do putting the ball over the field in perimeter Or even take a shot down the field You have to respect some of the things that just leaves gaps and the ability to gash the ball for six and seven and eight yards So I guess to answer your question the more dynamic wherever to be on the perimeter the more we're able to connect when we hit on shots I think the better it's going to be able to open up the run game as well But I think coach Kelly and a coach day they do an amazing job just putting us in the right position And we don't have to think about that kind of stuff We just awful minds that is 4 to 6, 8 to be plus 2 To play as hard and as violent as we can And we'll look at the score where at the end of the game we see where we are Is that balance the best you've had to be here? How would you guys characterize the ball in your mouth? Yeah, I just think I don't know I don't want to sum up I don't want to compare But I think we're just a very balanced team I don't I don't there's not much weakness

Now when I say that we still have the humility to know that we must continue to be better weekend and we gout But when I just look at our team as a whole I don't just see like let's go pick on this guy Because this guy can't do x1c or we can leave him I think we have 11 guys on both side of the ball that are able to be dynamic and the physical and strong players And I think we're just a complete team But again I say that with humility We want to continue to weekend and we gout be the best team We know we have to show up Because on any given week you can lose So we show up every week with the intentions of the National Championship So today's a lot of us It's been a few days since we've been on this team for the Iowa game We're a good man What's going to help you grow as a leader And what's going to help you grow more comfortable I guess it's being kind of a voice in my mind I would disattribute that to my faith In my words they would do the scribes I think before you can lead anybody else You have to have a sense of foundation of who you are Having a sense of self and idea of self

And I think the more that I've been able to be strong in my faith The more confidence it is given me into being leaders to other people Being able to be a leader to other people But I think that's where it starts How can you lead people if you're not really sure of where you are And then also when it comes to practice, practicality of football I think the more you have an understanding of the author The more vex you are and the more that you know The more ability you can then hand-throw into the next group of younger guys coming behind you So that all helps with leadership But I would attribute that to my faith My strong foundation and knowing who I am Maybe some of the veterans for the last few years That you kind of were able to learn from as well And notice that they were pretty good leaders as well You asked who were some others there were so many This name I picked here I've seen many many leaders all the way going back to my freshman They were just in and pass school and Jonathan Cooper Those guys to then the next group of guys Chris and Fayer

All those different guys going up coming through here I've seen many great leaders And I think there's something I would definitely say There's something special with the leaders on this team I would say there's not the leaders that we have on this team But not just leaders due to seniority Due to it's just my turn But I would look at the leaders that we have on this team And say there are some fairly leaders Not just by leaders by any kind of hand-me-downs They're truly we have great leaders on this team The first question Brandon was saying that He feels like Will is just built in the moment Do you kind of feel that way too? Yeah, I feel like he never gets too high He never gets too low He's always locked in and focused And that's the kind of I don't know if the temperament is the right word But the right attitude if you will feel like a better word That's the right attitude that you want From the quarterback No matter what spot we are in the game We look to Will and he'll be able to lead our huggles And we have confidence in that

Really man, it's tough practices Hard camp and so far and tough practices So really just coming in each and every day Man, it's just trying to get better So how important is the run especially now in big time? Man, it's very important The coaches, they stress that a lot We've got to run the ball, stop the run Especially in these match-up games You know these big team games So we've definitely been working To try to do that But what's the most intense memory you had The Carlos Lachlan from Scott here? I ain't going to lie It's so many It's so many Paul County, no, fuck out man I got so many there, fuck out But yeah, it's a lot, man Okay, what was the first impression playing you And you clinched out all you guys first match-up? I think when he first got here He came in the room And man, he gave us the speech He was like, I'm a dog I'm a dog

And man, that's the idea I knew I was like, we in it, man We in it, but no, I love Coach Lach, man It's all the deep range here, man I thank God for bringing him here, man He's been amazing, you know In this room, on the same man He's been a huge part of the same So I was talking to you about that Have you ever had a coach quite intense As with Carlos' Yeah, man, coach Ophor was that way You know, he coached me that way And Coach Lach does it as well And so, yeah, man, both of those guys, man I'm so thankful, you know That God has allowed us to cross pass You know, they both been really helpful in my life Maybe on what other sets of different ones Like the song The Other Day Or do we just kind of generally keep them balanced sometimes I would point as if we're running back to work on stuff With the kind of ballpan And you're not carrying this over I mean, I feel like it's just a tool You know, you can use sometimes that comes out And so one thing that Coach Lach helped us work on

It's just using different tools And so, it definitely comes to show on Saturday You know, sometimes, so, man, that's really important Just trying to work on those tools as a running back What about contact now? I'll do the proof that over the course of your career It seems like that's going to shrink Yeah So, really, man, just like the part of this program is getting developed And so, really just getting developed here You know, the coaches here, they've been doing a good job of helping me, you know, grow And become a better running back And so, especially having Coach Lach here, you know, he's been a huge part of, you know, the success I'm praise God, you know, first and foremost But, you know, with him bringing Coach Lach here and leading Coach Lach here, man, he's been a huge part of that So, with Coach Lach, you know, we talk so much, you guys have talked about it You know, split carries, but now that you're actually in the season, you feel you're in for a drive And Coach Lach comes in, you go into that third drive where you feel that defenses are more worn down Where you're not, you're just having to go into the third

You split back, it feels like a pull, but you've always been like a feature back Now you're kind of split carries Do you feel like, when you feel that defenses are a little more worn down than you are When you get in there, you know, it's first, light first quarter or early second quarter Uh, every now and I mean, it really depends on the team You know, there are some teams that play hard, you know, four or four quarters And so, yeah, it really depends on the team to be honest Do you think split carries might kind of help you at all in any way? Uh, yes, it has helped me in so many ways And I, you know, it's a long season for real And so, the biggest thing is just helping, you know, with the wear and tear And I'm just building off each other moment of two So, it's helped in so many ways And you're kind of living anywhere in here, does it even help when you get me down up? Like, you know, you're not maybe getting the volume, you're just like, it's not harder Or, because I don't have a health at all Um, Coach, they actually talked about that too, be honest Um, does he express to the team, you know, if you get tired, you know We got, we got, we got death on the same, you know, guys who can come in and make plays And so, he actually expressed that

Bigger tests are calm, but what's impressed you about the offense of lying in the box? Uh, man, really the work they've been playing in, you know, their practice I mean, I know y'all see it, you know, during, on Saturdays, but man, really, uh, the work they're playing during practice You know, it's, it's hard, man, and those guys do a good job of, you know, um, just coming in each and every day and trying to get better So, you talk about your thinking, getting off from Sean And he comes out with a step arm, you come out with a step arm You guys, you guys feed off that mentality, I want to, one of another, one of another Uh, yeah, man, like I said, man, there's definitely, um, we build momentum, you know, We build momentum, you know, off each other and not definitely build momentum off when Sean and man When Sean is a great running back, I believe the shoot of best running back in the country, man That boy is talented, man, and um, you know, I'm so thankful, man, to have him here, man He's gonna be a huge part of the scene Thanks for having me, y'all And we got on the field and I thought it was just amazing to see, so as it's teammate, you know I gave him the arms and the props and we got to the end of my bro, that's a hell of a lot, but he's just good to see him

Did you hear him yell from the side of my, no, I'm so loud, you could hear it on a TV microphone No, actually, I did, man, I just seen the blitz pick up, I would laugh You make you want to go out there and hit one? For sure, for sure Yeah, how was your fast-pro-ohm center? Oh, I thought, definitely, you know, I didn't get a lot of blitzes as far as, I think all they had like Yeah, I didn't have any pressure alongside of it, so definitely want to want to share You guys, Coach Kaley, yesterday, is here Does he call things differently when you're in the game? Or in when he sees Pravee on the game, he says no, he felt like that too, the package is the package You all just run the planes? Yeah, I think that's the biggest thing, you know, I don't totally play it, I don't draw anything else with the coach I just got there and just executed in my head Yeah, I know y'all are trained the same, you look at the guy you see, he's a little bit different from that guy Yeah, how do you like this package? I'm not really sure, this office You know, it's only the first game, so I wish I could say Yeah, definitely, how much I like it so far, but I think as we continue throughout the season, we get to

It's okay, so I'll give him more other things Yeah, so how does it compare to what you can do? You know, this stuff, the variety of plays, etc I think just starting off the season at the point that we're now like, we haven't really done too many crazy games just right away I mean, I'll practice with you Yeah, I mean, does it feel pretty deep to you? Oh yeah, definitely, it's gonna be fun, it's time to share Which one does it feel like you guys are close in the run game, the bussiness, you open? Yeah, I definitely think so Like I said, we see on the fan, you know, how everybody has collectively come together and improve things that we're missed or love like that, but I think we definitely I'm sorry, I had that big wall What's that Brandon in it? I don't know What was your point of view of that, and we're watching back on film, what's every action for you, and how much of an emphasis is that? It was like your granddad Yeah, definitely, definitely a big emphasis, especially at our position, super important, just to see what we do in practice together and the Eagle XB

So what's the reaction to seeing the end of the episode there? I mean, at the moment, I just like, dang, he hit him like he thought Sure Coach Kelly was talking about you, great-me-on, James Peoples, doesn't matter who's in the game, they call it the same way And James, like what did you see in his first performance, do you see some similarities that all between the US? I think in James, man, just saying, I'm glad there would be super excited with the performance, like, go out there for his first game, see him get the run and get the dirties out And just see him get the experience like his first game, me and Tray both just enjoy it Are you surprised at all the sea terror minds that have happened for a single game? I think just as a team, man, like, we're so talented, and everybody just works so hard since we've been here, and you just get to see what each of our teammates can do So it's like when they go out on Saturdays, it feels so fast Great, which one? Thank you very much Thank you guys, thanks for watching Just take step on, just walk towards the locker room, you don't mind

Really just coming in each and every day, man, and just trying to get better So, how important is Navajo to Ron, especially now in Big Temple? Man, it's very important, the coaches, they stress that a lot, we've got to run the balls, not to run, especially in these match-up games, these big-game games So we've definitely been working to try to do that What's the most intense memory you had with Carlos Lachlan? I ain't going to lie, it's so many It's so many, fall count down, I've got so many there, fall count Okay, what was the first impression when you went down all you guys first met? I think when he first got here, he came in the room He gave us this speech, he was like, I'm a dog I'm a dog That's right, I knew I was like, we in it, man, we in it, but no, I love Coach Lach, man

It's out of the deep, brings him, man, I thank God for bringing him here, man He's been amazing, in this room, on the same, man, he's been a huge part of the same I was talking to you about that Have you ever had a coach quite intense as with Carlos? Oh, yeah, coach Ophor was that way He coached me that way, coach Lach does it as well And so, both of those guys, I'm so thankful that God has allowed us to cross paths They both have been really helpful in my life But if that's the far more to solve the other thing, we just kind of generally keep it in balance sometimes I was born as a foot running back to work on stuff with the kind of your off hand and you're not carrying this over I mean, I feel like it's just a tool, you know, you can use sometimes that comes out And so, one thing that Coach Lach helped us work on is just using different tools And so, it definitely comes to show on Saturday, you know, sometimes

Yeah, it's really important to just try to work on those tools as a running back What about contact now? And so, I'll be able to prove that over the course of your career It seems like that's going to strengthen you really in the season Yeah, um, shoot really, man, just like the part of this program is getting developed And so, really just getting developed here, you know, on the coaches here, they've been doing a good job of helping me, you know, grow And become, you know, a better running back And so, especially having coach Lach here, you know, he's been a huge part of, you know, the success I praise God, you know, first and foremost, but, you know, with him bringing Coach Lach here, him leading Coach Lach here, man, he's been a huge part of that So, with Coach Sean, you talk so much, you guys have talked about it, you know, split carries But now that you're actually in the season, you feel you're in for a drive and the coach comes in, you go over that curve drive You feel that defenses are more worn down where you're not in first time building the car You split that goes before, but you've always been in the future back Now you're kind of split carries, do you feel like, do you feel the defenses are a little more worn down than you are when you get in there, you know, first, light first quarter or early second quarter?

Every now, I mean, it really depends on the team, you know, there are some teams that play hard, you know, full four quarters And so, yeah, it really depends on the team to be honest Do you think the split carries might kind of help you at all in any way? Yes, it has helped me in so many ways And you know, it's a long season for real And so, the biggest thing is just helping, you know, with the wear and tear And I'm just building off each other moment of two So, it's helped in so many ways And you kind of look at any more in here, does it even help you getting down up like you could just know you're not having to get the volume Is it like some unharder or something that doesn't have it helps at all? Coach, they actually talked about that too, be honest They express to the team, you know, if you get tired, you know, we got death on the same, you know, guys who can come in and make plays And so, he actually expressed that Bigger chances are come, but what's impressed you about the offends and why in the world are you guys doing? Man, really the work they've been doing, you know, their practice, I mean, I know y'all see it, you know, during on Saturdays But man, really, the work they're doing, their practice, you know, it's hard, man, and those guys do a good job of, you know, just coming in each and every day and trying to get better

You talk about your thick eating, eating off, when Sean comes out with a stiff arm, when you come out with a firm You guys feed off that physicality, one of another, one of another Yeah, man, like I said, man, there's definitely, we build momentum, you know, off each other and not definitely build momentum on when Sean is a great running back I believe the best running back in the country, man, that boy is talented, man, and you know, I'm so thankful, man, to have him here, man He's gonna be a huge part of the scene Thanks, Sean, you're welcome Yeah, man, he's been working really hard, man, even before this season, he had a great spring, great summer, especially throughout ball count He took a lot of reps and went against shooter, the top players, top defense in the country, so I think he's ready to have a better As a bad game, would you recognize what changes happening, whether they bring off the day or the day coming in, or against two players that should have been playing games? I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I'm too locked in, I don't really notice it, but it went to be the day down, and it was still good at the Zinc and K-Lam, and so this is trying to motivate you, you know, he can do it, man, and then it's a great battle, but we have the team trying to do it

I'm looking forward to it, man, for maybe on whatever things you can do, add the veteran, add the back, to help those guys out front I think the biggest thing is continuing to encourage each other, and those tough times, when it gets hard, I think that's the biggest thing, I think there's a lot of time to get hard, you know, you can get selfish, I think that times, and so that's something that God has been helping me work on It's just, and those tough times, to not be selfish, at all, and really encourage the guys around me and spread his life Is that when you've seen throughout the team here, almost possibly gonna happen? Yes, I definitely have seen that, man, we've definitely been listening each other up and encouraging each other, you know, just, they're really trying to put the page and focus on the rascal I think really that was, that was like, the biggest focus when we came in after that loss, I met as a team, it's just like Coach Day, really did a good job with that

I think, you know, just like, we all kind of own up to the mistakes that were made, but you know, one thing I love in respect of Coach Day, that he took upon himself, you know, he called himself out, it was like that so I know, but it's, and really it's not all of us, you know, the team, so that's one thing I really love about Coach Day, that, you know, he was willing to check himself What was last week's practice like specifically coming off that day? It was, it was tough now, it was a great week of development, you know, getting better and cleaning up the little details of things, you know, I think, you know, we, we continue to strive on the little things, the little details, you know, we can really go forward What's different about coming off the loss early out of this season, here to coming up that first loss later in the year? I think the biggest thing is it just, it humbles us, you know, it keeps us focused on the right thing, like I believe this is a test of our faith, you know, in the Lord, I think this, I believe, you know, he wanted it to go this way, you know, it tests our faith, you know, we continue to trust him, even when things don't go our way, and you know, he's helping us pass that test

You said Coach Day called himself out, what did he call himself out on, what kind of things did he say? Really just as a head coach, you know, this is his team, you know, he's like the guy, and so he was just like, it really starts with he And so we love that, you know, I think a lot of times, you know, coaches will come pointed on everyone else for Coach Day, you know, man, he just took the opponent stuff and like, that's only, you know, he's going to get it big, and you know, he's definitely been pushing us, man, and pointing us in the right direction, man, and helping us clean up things Try to punch on you later, and then fall around, and how many times will this career, what do you see for him kind of bouncing back from that, this week, how big this week's pass we have, but it procedure down as well, but where is he at in terms of responding to that? Coach Siamen, he's been responding to that virtually really well, yeah, he's definitely not used to putting the ball on the ground, and so he's definitely been working hard in practice to get that, to get that fixed man, Coach Siamen, there's a really great player, and he's definitely going about that

You see the kind of guy you have to go over to right after that happens, to give him some motivation and comfort, you kind of leave him alone with that hand Yeah, I mean, we always go to the bench, and we encourage each other, man, Coach Siamen, you know, he encourages me, I encourage his hands, so man, it's like, man, we just sharpen to each other, man, and therefore each other, you know, when you meet him So you're on the 2014 title team getting on and Saturdays, they're 10 day in the grocery, do you remember watching Zekin and those guys as a kid, and how did they put your memories of them? I'm not going to lie, I did not watch it at the kids, I'm not going to lie Have you gotten to know them now, or just what's your sort of like, you with that team? Yeah, that team was loaded, that's what I heard about the team, it was really loaded, I see highlights every now and then, I think, leaping off the Champions League against Belmer, right? Yeah, he had like four, right? Four tuts, for the four? Yeah, I think so, but I know that team was stagnant, I was loaded, so a lot of great guys on the team

I think that's why, you know, just coming in, you know, with the right mindset, trying to put it in the work each and every day and get better as a team, so... What are some ways that you and Dushon kind of contrast the complement one of them, like some things that you may not be able to do as well as it is in vice versa? You don't know, we'll see. Man, James has been so good, man, he's a really good person, and good player, and he comes in every day, you know, just trying to get better. He kind of reminds me a lot about myself, and this is home, and everything is coming in, and he's going to be a great player, and he's continuing to buy it, to go over and over here, and you know where we're trying to go, you know, he's going to be a good player, this offense, and... You said good person, Jim, what's the matter about this game? Man, he just brings someone to join, man, he's a buddy, dude, and man, yeah, I just love a man as a brother, man, I got him, you know, just a chance, you know, I knew James when he was recruited, and so we talked a little bit, and just like being here and managing, just being there, you know, helping him in a certain way, you know, the local community,

is being good at the conversation that we have, you know, just off the field, and so just being able to be there for him, you know, when he's in the field, you know, just saying good for that. It's right, with the... with the field of dollars, every season is a set of field of dollars. How does the impact affect the running rate? Running down? Yeah, how does the... I got a little down, and I'm glad he's a good player, man, I'm so glad, you know, he's here, man, he's... he's been really good for the defense, man, and yeah, man, he's all around the field, you know, making plays, and the ranked game, past game, everywhere, man, he shows up everywhere. What is it we always do in the sponsor club? As a captain, Jesus teaches greatness and serving, and so I just, you know, I think for me, you know, I just want to be, you know, the Lord's humble servant, and just be able to serve others, you know, the players on my team, you know, how I reckon do so, and be the captain that the Lord wants me to be. And so, you know, it's a big responsibility, you know, the biggest thing is just like, that I pray on it, and that the Lord helps me to remember, is that, you know, I'm trying to please him and not others.

And so, you know, just keep my eyes on the Lord, and continue allowing him to work on my heart to be a better teammate, captain for my team. I think that's... it's going to be really good, man. That's how you were going to go for it when you got here in the field. Uh, she's not really, man. It's just... yeah, not really, man. I'm just so thankful, you know, that God has placed me in this position, and my teammates, you know, they pick me to be in this position. And, yeah, I'm just so thankful, man, and just being in this position, like, I just want to be able to bring the Lord to the Lord's name. And so, like I said, man, just leaning on him, you know, it's tough, man. It's tough being a captain because every day, you know, you got to come in and people are looking at you, do things right. And so, there's been days where I struggle, and I'm just gotten in the secret place with the Lord, and just asking the Lord to for help, you know. And he bought me through, man, and he's continuing to make me a better person, a better teammate.

What have you told Coach? When Sean knew two steps in his first Sunfair Saturday in one of the stadiums? Uh, I don't even think we talked much about that yet. Yeah, I don't know how much we talked about that. We so locked in there right now, man, it's just... when that time comes, it comes, and... Yeah. What would you tell them about, you know, that atmosphere going on on Saturdays, you can be fantastic. Uh, it's a side of, man. It's a side... especially first game, being back in the shoe, um, the walk, and seeing a fans and everything. You know, it's a huge environment, so... yeah, I'm... man, I know he's gonna be so excited. You guys are bringing up two in the country, you're loaded, people expect y'all to make a run all the way to the championship game, you know, it's what happens in. How legit is that, from your game experience, from your city, from where you're sitting, on a trade-bite on about this team? Yeah. Shoot, man. Um, you know, it's a long season. And so I think the biggest thing is that, uh, we're trying to do as a team, you know, this year, it's not looked too far ahead, and just taking one game at a time. You know, I think that's the biggest thing right there, man. Let's, like, let's just focus on hacking and marshaling the next game, the next game.

And then, um, eventually, like, we'll get there, man. We'll get there, but just every day, just trying to focus on one day at a time, putting in the work, and preparing for the opponent, you know, we have each week. All right, straight back, you. Thanks, right? Appreciate y'all. Appreciate you, man. Um, so, um, you know, it's been great, and the more that I just throw to these receivers, and just get, you know, get around these guys, you know, the more, more we're coming together and becoming a team, and it's, it's cool to see, and we just got to keep, keep doing it, and keep practicing as hard as we event. So, what practice has been, what have you liked, but not like, what you felt? Um, you know, I think I've, I think I've done a pretty good job protecting the football and, and being smart with my decisions. Um, you know, I think that I want to continue to push the ball down the field when I, when I have opportunities to and be accurate down the field and get, get some more arrow my, on my deep balls. Um, those are just a couple things that I've, I've thought about personally, but, you know, I think, I think one of the bigger things is, you know, what are we doing as a team?

And, you know, obviously, you know, I'm thinking about myself and how I can be better, but, you know, the bigger thing is, how can we be better as a team? How can I facilitate that being a quarterback? You know, how can I encourage somebody, you know, before we go out there to remind them, hey, you know, if it's a running back, you know, make sure on 60 on whatever protection, you know, you got these guys, you know, doing, doing things like that is, is something I want to continue to grow in for my team, you know, because that's at the end of the day, you know, all 11 guys have to do their job every single play and, you know, being the quarterback, you kind of have to facilitate that a little bit and help those guys and make sure, you know, I think that's the best way to do it. And, you know, make sure that, you know, we're being the best team we can be. Yeah, I felt fast. It was nice to get out and run a little bit. You know, I, I, we made a little, made a little QB call on that play and got out and ran and, you know, obviously, it's, it's nice to compete with those guys and running, you know, trying out runs and some, some BBs that are really, really fast.

But yeah, it was a good play. No way, no way. No one you're in your use card. You want to do it with all of the past, you know, big, fire, if you come in your, you feel like you're like, you send me a message. Oh, yeah, absolutely. That's a big part of my game and it's going to need to be a part of our game as an offense. You know, whether that's in a re-game and in the scramble game, whatever it may be. And, you know, I just want these guys on my team to know that, you know, I'm willing to run the ball and go get that extra yard when I need to, you know, because at the end of the day, that's what really, that's what it really comes down to. You know, are we going to run some quarterback, you know, run place, sure, but, you know, at the end of the game when it's third and five and everyone's, you know, everyone's covered down the field. Am I going to be able to tuck the ball down and go, you know, go get six yards and run someone over like that's that's one of the bigger things. And I think, you know, I want those guys, you know, they're out there with me to know that, you know, I'm going to go get that extra yard. I've been part of your game, some quarterbacks are able to run, but not willing. You know, I mean, folks, I was a bit busy to your P way.

I mean, I've always, I've, yeah, I've always definitely, you know, when I was a young kid, I was a pretty good runner when I got to high school. I was a tall, you know, skinny pocket passer kind of. And I wasn't really known for my running ability. I ran it, you know, a few times a time. But when I got to K state, I put on a little weight. You know, I started to get a little stronger in the, you know, in my, in my, my leg areas and, you know, I'm actually my first start against TCU third play of the game. I ripped off like an 80 yard, QB draw, which I surprised myself a little bit like I, you know, I had had some good runs in camp and people knew I was good athlete. But like, I was like, man, I just really just do that. And from then on, you know, it just kind of became a part of my game. And, you know, I just got more and more confident with it. And, you know, the more you do it, the better you get at it. You know, throughout my whole career there, I obviously ran the ball. I get a mountain. I enjoy running the ball. I think, you know, people always ask me, is it more fun to run the touchdown and throw a touchdown? I like to run it. I think it's pretty cool to, you know, run in there and celebrate with the teammates.

But, you know, yeah, it's definitely been a, been a big part of my game. It's what we needed to do. Well, the guys have said it. That's a good question. Everything is, everything's heightened here, you know, I think, you know, the, you know, you feel, you feel the eyes a little bit and you feel, I think, I think that, you know, the one thing I would say is that I don't feel like I have to be a hero here. And I feel like I have the guys around me to where I just need to facilitate and just get them to ball and make good decisions. And at the end of the day, I don't have to go out there and do anything super, super human, you know, I just have to be myself and trust the guys around me. And, you know, in going through camp and through spring ball, like, it was talking to you earlier at them, like, going against this defense every single day is a, is a blessing. And like, I know it, it sucks at times and I'm sitting here like, geez, like, you know, in a, in a game like that guys, I can be guarded like that. You know, that's just in Zel being a dude for RGB, you know, making a really good play, but like, that's real.

And that is going to happen. We're going to play some really good defenses, but like, I think we're playing, you know, one of if not the best defense in the country every single day. And that's just making me and us better. And, you know, for me, you know, it's just, it's elevating my game and I love the competition and we all do so. Where will you play the first set? The first set. The first set. The first set. I think they're doing a really good job. I think they hear in this offense, they're doing a lot of different things and moving around a lot. They're, you know, they're blocking their catching. They're doing a lot of different things and they've shown some really good flash so far in these first couple days of practice. And I'm excited for this group. I think, gee, you know, geez, doing some really good things. And obviously he's, and he's one of those alpha dogs in the offense. Like, everyone looks to him. You know, he's, he's one of those guys. And, you know, and Wilk has merit. So it's really good things to Lonnie's and what's really good things.

Like, everyone's kind of stepping up. It's been cool to see. I think that tight end rooms definitely bringing the juice coach. He's got him going. And I'm excited to see what they do. He's still like you. Or at this point, you feel like you're the number one quarterback. You approach practice. You're the starter. The mindset wise, we have how do you go about that? Because obviously it's still a competition. I'm just trying to be the best version of myself every single day. That's, that's all I'm trying to do. And, you know, whatever, whenever I get thrown in there, I'm going to go in there and make the best out of my reps and, you know, show this team that, you know, I'm. I'm going to fight for them and do everything that we need to do when that's, that's all that matters to me. I'm better. Being the best team that I can be. This is the first year that the most. We've got to try and get some tricks and village. You guys more. For the health of the health. Or the new office. That's invaluable. It's been awesome. Yeah, I think it was long overdue. I think, you know, we've had these guys that have ton of knowledge, you know, and have all these weird rules that they couldn't coach.

But now being able to, you know, have Riley and Billy and Coach Kelly and Coach Day all coaching us. We got really two quarterback coaches on either field when we're doing like two spot like. It's invaluable. And I think Billy's been awesome for the room. You know, I think Riley, Arkansas, some really good things. Obviously Coach Kelly and Coach there. You know, some of the best in the in the country, you know, I've built me quarterbacks and you know, the coaching that we're getting is awesome. And I think having the analyst be able to be out there on the field has been really big and long overdue. Well, tips that there is no front line. There's a point you guys are looking. We're talking all the rest. We've got it on the other side. At what point would it be helpful to know who the starter is and then be able to get those reps. You need the leader more important. Yeah, you know, I wish I could say I don't really know. And you know, that's not up to me. That's not my decision. I am I'm just going to be myself. You know, keep fighting to be the best version of myself every single day.

And you know, try to make the make the most out of my reps and show this team that. No, I'm going to I'm going to give them my all and that's all I can do, man. And we're just going to keep competing, keep making each other better and have fun. And I think that's what you're asking me. You feel like a different pastor. You work day, day, day, day, day, and walk. Yes, I do. I think I've I've tweaked some things in my mechanics. And you know, I think the coaching that I'm getting here is not not mechanic wise, but read wise and beat wise and and all these different things. You know, I'm just I'm getting a different deeper level of coaching than I ever have before. And you know, I have a deeper understanding of the offense and what the defense is doing. You know, my movement keys, my pre snap checklist, my post snap reads, like everything's just been faster. And obviously, you know, my experience helps with that a little bit. But I think, you know, my work with my with my quarterback coach has helped a lot Jeff Christiansen. You know, he's he's helped me a ton. And you know, I I feel like I've just gotten stronger. And that's helped me a lot too.

So I think I'm throwing the ball with a lot more confidence, throwing a ball a lot better. And a lot of that has to do with the coaching I've gotten. And you know, that's the credit for those guys for forgetting me ready and, you know, making sure that, you know, I developed myself in the off season. And, you know, I've become the best version of myself going into football. Thank you. Thank you guys. Thank you all. Appreciate it. For my whisper, you know, the quarterbacks they've had just the past five years shown the kind of great numbers. I just really don't think the right way. And I want to come this offense because by hand, because my coach Kelly, you know, make the just look right. Staff it. Staff it. I had pretty much contact with them. You want me to make a higher end in the middle of something. Really good things that Coach says is that you don't like to have your hands held for any kind of process. Now you played up an age a lot of time in football clear. What is it about you to drive you to want that hard coaching? I would say, you know, in high school, I had a coach that, you know, he was, I would give me a lot of responsibility.

I would, you know, kind of a lot of, not a responsibility on me to make things hard on me. And so I just, you know, I want to do the best I could be. And take the need to do a few things the right way. And I'll just do things on that. I love Washington Hill Burrow. He makes that adjustment line. He's a really good decision maker. I like Justin Burrow very much. I try to understand what I'm going to play. Some of those guys are going to play. I just, you know, good decision makers. You know, I would say a little bit more flat. I'm working on the heckle style. You know, I've got to stay and try to get people. And I want to be right there with the guys that are even on the clutch. I'm going to try to be really good. Definitely quite confidence. Definitely confident in your play. I know what he's a lot of fun, but I'm happy he's got the love of me. I actually, I think I only been here once in a few months now.

I love her. I really good places to be. I know my friends. I think I visit maybe freshman or sophomore. Yeah, just for like a camper and visit just to see the same. I know it was only a few days, but being in the Alabama program, especially as they prepared for a ball plant front, what did you take away from that short period of time? Yeah, it was really good with the coach of recent, they were coach of players hard night. I saw the work that takes me to the playoffs and I'm coming here to see the order guys put in the work and throughout the winter. I've seen our order guys are all the leaders put in the work and then showing them the happenings. How much of a relationship did you have with air? Obviously, coming in, he had been committed, you come in, you're both freshmen. What was it like before and what's your relationship like? We didn't have much relationship prior. We measured it with 11. I knew each other a little bit and then come in here, you know, we're back room, everyone here is really close.

So we're all pushing each other to be better. We're all taking push points from each other trying to get better. The coach they have in this moment, they're trying to make sure you're in light of fire. They're expecting a lot of us to make the fire. I would say we were taught by surprise, you know, come back from the game and there's a little bit of high spirits because of the team journey. I don't know, there's high-profile success. How did you feel when you were in the air? Did you have a coach just played for or did you have a son next to you? Or did you have a coach like you had to drive those ball back? That's my amount of emotions but I'm not going to be helping through it and making the registration. I know you're here and I'm like, you know, for more money, not taking the control of the ball back. I have a true question for what you could do to make sure you're out there. I can't really explain how that happened to me. I'm just really trying to develop and take the coach to the coach day and bring it forward to my course. I'm a paper-sponsored coach guy.

I just want to develop and run the offense when they want it and then just take the coach and play some trust. If you look at your stuff, say push for easy. You can't even make it to the point you're not going to do it. What do you think, what about your game? You think you're going to play with the ball back. I think that I can be really good decision-makers for the offense and some of you will be absolutely never-confident. I think that's what I call a dream. You bet? I bet you're good at it. I think it's kind of a lot of dreams. I was always around football. I put my bow as a quarterback at Penn. He used it quarterback-knife when I was in high school and I was at football and he's pretty good at basketball. I've always been around football and then I live off this high school and just really just had it a lot of my career. Who's your favorite title? Packard. What are you saying?

I'm not that good. Why are you always playing? I just think you're like a real show. From a coaching standpoint, it feels a lot better when you're not looking around. You put your head in down there. Now we had the sickness going back around and it was just slide out and slide in. You're going to two platoon and go both cards today. You got a coach. That was good for both parties. As a coach, we can so practice and for the kids getting really good reps out of it. There's no way you could put your head up to the other side. It's just a psychology. Yeah, just with the calendar of an offensive line unit anywhere. You're going to take the criticism. I think the maturity of these guys is probably what sounded or showed with Donovan. I wasn't over there, but like... You had to hold his hand. That's our position. That's who we are. That's when you want to coach this position or play this position. And you're going to take those. So I think the maturity and the growth of those guys understanding what they need to do and why they need to do it.

It's going to pay dividends when we get on the field and start playing in the teams. We're playing more and continue to play more like linemen and not lines on a page. I think as young guys and new guys you get in, you're kind of like, right? Who do hats? Oh, I got burned. Okay, I'm going to go get the burn. No blocking you. I don't want to block you. You're right. I want to block you, right? Okay. Okay, okay, okay. Thanks, guys. But just trying to not screw it up or get there, figuring it out, you know, schematically or whatever. We're now the ownership and we're going to burn. And this is how we're getting here and this is the technique I'm using. That's showing up a lot, man. And like I said, that started to burn fruit because we're not. You're not blocking a pop up them. Like we do pods. We do individuals with Larry's guys and you got good on good. And it's showing. That's the positive. As a coach now I'm sitting there feeling like...

I'm feeling better about it because we're doing it and they're doing it because they understand it. And I'm not just saying, I'm aligned on a page. I got to go block the nose. You know, you mentioned Larry's guys. How much is it almost shining a light if you see a weakness on your line going against those guys? I would think it would expose it pretty well. You get a good read on what you have. Yeah, it's another proof though of when you're in a matchup game Ryan talks about this all the time. It's you versus you. If you don't take the right step, if you don't communicate or get the right fit to the right identity. Then really good teams and really good players are going to take advantage of that. If you give them something that way. So you're playing you. So for us to answer your question, yeah. They expose like, why did I get beat right there? Did he beat me or did I give it to him and he took it? And then Larry's guys can do the same. And what we get at whatever the technique may be on a zone player or a gap player, whatever it may be. And we hit something big. He can watch us say, hey, did you miss their fit? Did they miss their hands? So that good on good that we're getting to go. It's going to expose a lot of things, not necessarily how good you are.

But when you don't play as good as you are, if that makes sense. Hey, I just, this might be a general question, but how have you seen more, I guess, recruiting approach, improving pitch, mold change over the course of your tournament? It's still all about, in my mind, or my like, evaluation. Like you have to be a guy that can come here and grow and perform and play. The changing has really been with the NIL landscape. And so figuring out what that piece really is, how vested and how far you have to be in that, what's their priorities? So I think that's always, that's going to be a fluid thing. But at the end of the day, like, you know, I'm sound boring and cliche, right? But like if a kid loves football, it wants to be great, wants to get developed, wants to be around a play against Larry's guys and those guys in practice. And we feel like we've evaluated him through camp or through tape and we've offered those guys. And we want to go get those guys. Is that 40, is that 60, is that 90? I mean, that's, that's all far evaluation of what we have. So from a, you know, the game of football hasn't changed, recruiting change, yeah, and all that.

But you still got to think as it's you can go and develop because that day one ready made guy in the offensive line set. Point of mind if you're finding for me because there's a few of the far between. You see a roster full with, you know, five stars in the fantasy world. Or whatever. And it seems like there's been a little bit of a struggle to get those hot guys. Those hot guys, do you feel like your approach with NIL has a part of it? Do you feel like it's working? Do you feel like the pitch that I'm high stage here? Yeah, because we're not done yet. I mean, you know, keep your head on the swivel here. We're on the December the long way away and weekends coming up soon. And you know, where guys are, where they're getting recruited, what position they're for. That's what we have to do. That's that's my job. Let's let's coach this job as we go together. It's like evaluating guys that we feel can come here and develop and play and help us to continue to win. And so yeah, stars matter share my wife could point out. That's a that's a really good guy, right? But as I said, those that pool lineman is not as big as some of the others.

I mean, we shouldn't get him. It doesn't mean we're not working to do those guys. And like I said, it doesn't mean that we're done either. That's a long way to December too. How do you turn this into a couple of questions? There's one superstar guy that's on the right side. Is that star on pipeline or is it hard to really get this to be the most important? You get this guy's in the past. Yeah, I mean, I think you just look at the recent history all the way through or all the stickers on the wall in there. I mean, you know, yeah, we had Paris. He was national five star guy, right? But then we had other two other draft picks there that the one was in five star guy, right? Luke was in five star guy, good players. They got developed. You know, those guys before I got here all the guys on the wall. I mean, yeah, that's you'd love to go get all those guys. But do they fit the next up round guys? So the four star guys are they really a four star? Do they really say? Do they really want to do that? No, pipeline on the line? No, you just put on the wall in the room.

You've seen all those guys that have come from all different levels. How would you say that you're in the evaluations now? When you're dealing with so many people wanting to hear before they leave one place to game, they would do your idea offer tomorrow's game. It seems like the process is just kind of plausible. It's a way of being about a valuation, right? There's about attention in the bottom of the cases. How much harder do they get when you're looking at a kid who's gotten the size you that you're looking for? But maybe the others there, maybe the kids who are looking for the position are missing. How do you get him to understand? Yeah, I think you got to feel through the relationship of with the kid, maybe the relationship with the coach, and just being frank and honest with him. You know, I mean, I'm not smart enough to tell this guy one thing, this guy the other and circle back and all of a sudden you come back and it's like, what was the message you gave here? He was trying to be as straight and communicative as you can. I still don't think though, you get into early junior year first two or three games

which we're going to do. Guys that we felt like right there you needed to see. That's when the next wave of offers and recruiting stuff goes into. If the kids just looking for a check mark on the internet, yeah, I've probably failed at that my entire career early on until you know that they're a buck-eye. To be clear, you used to have an out of public dummy, can I have a scholarly career? You? Yeah, I wouldn't love to block you, bro. With one leg or four, which you would. Just to see if you could. I'm trying to get him in. Got you. You got three guys. Last question for coach. We got two or three boys starts, we got Josh, he's a prior to his dad, and he's 15 and we got one. He's going to have 12 and have no. Where do you throw this game? Show up, put the game in the watches. They gave the doubt to say that I don't know. It could be, depend on the day. Like you're in the dull drums in the grind of camp, practice 12, 13, 14. That veteran guy that kind of grabs the guys like fellas, we've been here.

Let's go. This is the Lord's talk. We got to pick it up. We got to go. Could be in a situational field. It's an hour or it's like eights. We're going to third down period. Well, it's not just another play. Hey, it's just third down. Now they come over walls or butts in, watch the picks, watch the twists, whatever the patterns may be. I think it'll show them in the games. When we hit the first real adversity through whatever game, whatever quarter or whatever drive that shows up, then that's the next time I'm going to show because they, as you said, there's, there's gamesmanship there. They've been in and they know now it's not the first time. Like, whoa, what's happening? It's, hey, this is happening. Here's how we get through it. I'm super smart. That's something that you think that you guys could just kind of listen to last year with a frame of center to the attack. Obviously, I don't know. Like, do you think that you were missing all the bit of that over there? You're just a veteran, veteran experienced guys. You know, I mean, you had Matt there, he played a lot of ball. He had Donnie was coming into it, but then you're replacing the three new guys. You know, one coming from across the country and then another two guys.

Yeah, I've got a lot of memory on the top. We're coming into it. So yeah, I mean, experience helps a ton and what's experienced you to set it. I've started this many games, which means he's played this many thousand reps. I've started this many games. I've had this many reps in the red zone or this many other than whatever situation it may be. Right tackle my freshman year. You know, six three right tackle, turn the blind jacks. So it was fun. But going to guard, you know, obviously it helps your drafts, so I can have everything like that. But, you know, you don't have to sound to ball. That's pretty sick. You get both hands back. That's been kind of interesting. And what kind of like at the end of spring a little bit when I was going in with that, I literally didn't know how he's going to right hand for a while. I come out of the ball. But obviously we've developed and we're good with that. So it's been a good experience. I know like me, Luke, you know, take as well. I'll play in some right, I'll play in some right guard. So I ask you new questions, asking Donnie questions on the other side of the ball. I don't know. I mean, I just love playing football, so I'm killed with whatever.

So I'm good. What is different with Chip Kelly as the office coordinator right now, but you've noticed with the run game, what do you feel is different? We run the rock. We pound the rock man. It's isn't really fun this year. What does that mean? Now, when you say that, what pound the rock? What does that mean in your vernacular? I just think the way we run out of the ball and the scheme is the rent of implement this year. It's been very, very difficult for teams to combat that. I think the amazing offensive minds of Coach Kelly, of Coach Arr, obviously Coach Day and Coach Fry. I think they've come together and made some really, really fun plays. Not only, you know, obviously like really good schemes, but there's some cool plays in there as well. I know we've loved to, you know, run. I remember I went freshman year and last year. You know, our defense has been a number one defense in the country. And now we've been able to really not, obviously, we're not going to beat him up or anything like that. We've been able to move a little bit. So it's been fun seeing that and seeing the guys really get into it.

And I think Coach Kelly has been awesome and effective. He's a very open-minded coach. We're kind of stuffy tries. So we'll be reading the script or reading with him. We're like, this is what we're going to run this over to this. We're like, okay, it hits for like 40 yards. And this is the coolest thing ever. So I'm really excited for this year. I think everyone should be too. All right, Carson, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks for having me. Yeah, no, I got a little blue color, yeah. You're too early. Yeah. Amazing. I can't wait to meet you. I'm going to be on the team for a second. All right, you're full. Perfect. Thank you. I think we used three tight ends and two running backs on our formation today. We've had her being the full-back in that situation. So there's a lot of different things you can give in sugar. But a little bit of a tricky approach. And then what do you mean, so this is for Joey Coffman? Plum is this back. It's over to the left. Should it be a look back? Not even your two months, 15 spring branches. Do something you feel best about when you've been able to accomplish the assessments? Well, I would have kind of said it in exact instant.

But I think the most impressive thing since that matter is how we're just the closest for both teams. You know, some programs are talking about a brother. This is really a brother. Our practice is going to be a little bit more difficult in our practices as we talked about how their defense is. There are high-ranking competitive, but they're not from that. And those guys really work very, very well together, both the whole line of the D-line and second-rate receivers. The competition is going to be the best there is in the country. And that makes you better. But I think sometimes competition, no guys can lash out and it gets really combative. And then on the set, the fight points out, the fight points out. And we're trying to accomplish it with the problem. But I think the way these guys cooperate and work together is a good discussion about them. I think you need to need to be the closest team and the most connected teams are ones at home. Over to the right here. Andy Baxter, Letterman Romp. Jay Bobbie, you said you didn't want to talk about Jay or Mara, but I'm not sure if it's the big return on this group if you kind of provide it or what he can do today. What's it been like working with him and what kind of up do you mean, you guys? Good point.

And then as you're buying a meeting and the other four team backs especially with my team, they're special players. And Jay is a really talented player also. I think all of the whole current updates and really good things watching him that's been in for all of them. I'm addressing with the offensive line. I can't know what the line is like. And I have no opinions for them. Not that I really just want to hide and just interpret them. But I think that why I'm seeing more of them is really special. I think there's a bunch of guys in there. And again, you have to put multiple games after the regular season is over. You know what I'm sure you're going to need that type of thing. You feel a little bit carpool right now. We can sometimes really connect some plays with the printer. And that really dictates how people are going to defend it. You've got a couple of really good running games. So they're going to load the box, be really going to load the box. They're going to load the box and they're going to load one in one coverage. Then it's the core vector responsibility to decipher that and get them all to those games. So we're doing this with double coverage.

We're doing this with double coverage. And now it's really going to let your box meet and run them all. Having too many weapons is a good problem. Second roll at at Murphy. My fourth seven sports. Typically we've talked a lot about the cornerbacks maybe by the starting point. So the younger guys, what have you seen from them? We've got not going to see more of them today. And we probably have what's your assessment of the events they kind of gave you? I always, in some of the press with young guys that enroll early and watching how they get acclimated and what they do. You look at Julian and Mary and JJ. They should be in a hot much lighter their ice hole. And they're out here playing a fun 80,000 people. And they've really progressed when you watch the event and listen to them. And they interpret. Basically the whole concept here is where we throw them in a deep end. And see if they can swim. This three didn't maybe anything. We don't put the install in with, hey you guys are install. This was the older players.

And then you guys go sit at the kitty table and we're just going to do really simple things with them. They get it all in the more they can digest the more when you're in a road when you're checking for understanding and asking questions. And they can spit back to you the more confidence you have when they get in there with the plays that you can call for. So those guys have been in process. They're still running. They were the guys today that were kind of looking around and saying, I don't know if they could be a lot of people here. Along with the obvious coordinator of the corporate coach because I was kind of looking around. Because I'd actually never been in the stadium. So yesterday when we had our 14th practice in there. So I played Ohio State Months when I was at Oregon. But that was in the most people's high and never been actually in the stadium until yesterday. So I caught myself right in the stadium today that I had on the stadium. 80,000 for springtime as a person. Got to have just a few more folks over here until the right bill of Davis still work. Is that people what you just said about throwing them into the deep end? What stood out to most people? Joanne's progression through 50 practices where he is and what you guys had out of spring.

Joanne is a very fast processor. You really, thanks very, very quickly on the stadium. He makes really good decisions. He doesn't stick on them. And really, he can progress. And any season is really well from for a young player. And not having been exposed to a lot of college defenses. And especially what Jim does. Jim can make the young freshman corner back. Pride with some of the stuff he does. But I never saw that with deals. And it's been across his ability to retain and image AJ. The compliment up to him is, if you got here and you didn't know what class they were doing, you wouldn't say that those guys are freshmen. How they pick things up. Sometimes freshmen act like freshmen. But the guys you are special, they don't act like freshmen. You know that they act like football points. You know that you guys are on your tables? Far left, Camden T. Robinson, the athletic.

You hung yourself out of a freshman and the J.K. was the same. They were running the second half. You talk about how deep you need to be in this air college football. As you search for Army 3, what did you see from them today? What has their growth been like in the business frame? Yeah, James really flashed early for me. Not knowing again. It's just that I don't worry about what the background is. Where they're from, who they are. This guy at this start, this guy at that start. They're all black eyed citizens. And suddenly, when I think James is kind of really good field of vision, he can get things. I thought Sam did some really good things today. T.C. is another guy who really came along during the strike. And we're constantly talking in our staff meetings about that. We're very cognizant of the fact that the class situation has changed. So you have to develop that. You know, used to be maybe have a parent spare. It was what everybody says, but I think you're going to have to have one of that. I know you're talking about 16-17 games. You're really going to be tested that way. So I was really happy with how those young guys have come along.

You're in the 15-20 sessions of the time. I hope you're right. Tim May podcast. Thank you, Jerry. You have none on the podcast? Yeah. If you guys all have a theme, thanks to the next one. I'm going to show you. There's more to make that one. You must have some juice if you have the energy of having it. Definitely. I like it. It's not just the last one. It's the hot one. It's the hot one. Yeah. Just two points. Number one, do you feel compelled to let the scorebacks know where they stand? That's coming up to you. You know what I mean? Where does that go? I mean, in your mind. The old sometimes the staff can visit you on the mind. It is an unbelievable job. I think all our players understand where they fit and what the texture is and what they want to do. We're not going to come back. But we do it every day. We know where they stood after back. We're going to do it. We agreed everything. They're going to cost us feedback in terms of where we are. After 15, we treat that today. But we can't do it unless you watch the film.

You can really look at the things. Because you may see something when you're on the sideline. Why did you make that decision? I couldn't really see the field safety from where he was. I understand why you made that decision. So, you know, we're meeting as well. That's always been enough. So this week during, you know, between Monday through Friday. We're all scheduled. No one's going to want to recruit you because we'll have to that. We're all going to be in a position. You know, often sublime. You're a sublime. I never say to you. Everybody's in a position. You know, they fit. You know, you see them. If you feel oppression with the transfer portal, you know, you've been a head coach for a long time. Meaning, is that on your mind that do you see the help towards where other people are? I don't think it's pressure. But I think you just open lines of communication and everybody knows. You know, which one of your evaluation was to the training sessions we had. Guys, we got that. We got real quick. The last two questions. Dan Hope and then Rob Alder.

When do you feel like you need to have a starting quarterback named by and whatever the things you're going to be looking for between now and then in the term to do that guy's going to be? Well, between now and whatever that is. We're not allowed as coaches to go back out in practice. You know, in college football, you get 50 training sessions with the panel. I mean, I'll see the little back to working with Nick in the way from Kevin Baker getting faster, getting stronger. They'll have organized activities themselves. They do a really good job of that. But once there's a football out, we're not allowed to be there to evaluate and even assess. So they're really from a football center on their own until August. So you always want to do it earlier. But I also believe every time I've been involved in this is that it kind of happens organically and authentically. Because the players are not. You say that we're going to be good job. They all think it's telling. They know. They're not in the locker room with them every day.

Players understand who they feel is the guy. And most of the time, the decision is very obvious. And you just say this is where we are with it. But that time table thing, I can't give you an exact time table on that. So I brought it. You took a lot of doing it. But typically, your experience you've done it again, like Tim said a long time, how long does it take for the game to slow down for a pretty young QB? I think it depends on the individual. I've had some kids. It's early. You know, you were like wow, Parker's Mario was like that. Number 50, the second practice, he got to the fifth reading in the direction we were out here and was like, and I asked him, well, I do it all. I asked why, because this one was, I didn't mean to say, why did you do that? I don't know what we call that defense, but there was like a lot of guys over there. I didn't see much there was anybody over there.

I didn't see a process that thought it was right. He came back in the day, whether that was cover six, the other day comes right back. I mean, when you guys call the cover six, but it all happens differently. I've got guys that for two years, you know, they're really struggling and the light bulb goes off and you're a bolt. They've had it so everybody has different learning styles. Our job in the evaluation process is to identify those learning styles. They kind of learn, they're not totally learning, because they learn by field. It's a field guy, a more film guy, you know, tall different than that. We have to keep hoping and prodding. For us, coaches, that's the challenge. What is the best learning style and how can we make a day? Because education basically is just a presentation knowledge. But it really isn't that what I know about writing, as learners were daydreaming. That's always kind of what we're working on and studying and thinking about kind of where we are and how much can they handle. And then how much is too much, you know, because this could be a great play.

I agree 100%. But if you don't feel it's good, then why is it in? And that's this whole feeling of process that we're all learning, also learning. And that's what happens. They have identities, sort of coaches, running quarterbacks. And it's something you always were lean toward, or is it your body, your case, by case. What advantage does you like about it? Because all your guys can run a little bit. Yeah, I think it running quarterbacks causes problems for events. So when plays were now the unescalable plays, if you just go back to the recent Super Bowl, on that last five to two big plays from a home's run, potential homes and not the runner, and he's not calling the design the quarterback runs for a pad. But when the defense matches up in place two men in terms of their backs and the quarterback, well, maybe the best decision is to take off. The second one is the number one, you may score. A lot of guys don't want to go outside. And there's time to react, tell them you're saying if you do a running quarterback,

and we talk about the best ability, the best ability is male ability. You're not long on your shoulder taking people on, but we are always looking for quarterbacks that have the ability to run. We're not looking for running backs at that chance of growth. So you're not going to see us 20 times a game and we're running the quarterback. There are people that run off of the societal scene are really successful with this group we have, but not that's not. Now they kind of hurt you. They little didn't, when he was in a case they obviously didn't take off a couple of times today. They air took off a couple of times today. Lincoln's a really little bit athlete. Julian can run, but we're not calling the design quarterback runs for a year. We're not going to see, you know, I think tremendous amount of respect for crocheting the lace and getting up here. The straight tee is run as far as we go. We are not going single way. So we are not going to snap it and run the quarterback, I saw the quarterback products out there. But it is another weapon. It also keeps the defense of the box. You know, three defense fans, and I continue to mend. And the quarterback pulls the beams on the edge and is even first down.

Well then the defense of that has to stay outside of the team. And the quarterback pulls them on the ball lock. And the end of the ball lock. Sometimes they don't want to give our quarterback really as a blocker. Use responsible for a defender to defend. The defender was cheating and the fitting in on the run. And then his responsibility is to make the defense be honest. And that's really erred to that a couple of times today. And we had a block that's safe, he was taking its face in there. So we're going to take off our own head. What happens in the next bit of defense is wider. And we're going to get to do it in a chance to end the ball off the running. Coach, thank you so much for your time. And thank you for being a blocker. All right. So maybe 42 whatever against Youngstown State. And I'd be so upset coming out of the game. But seeing how violent this game is from this perspective. Now you have to say, hey, okay, not only within games can we keep guys fresh. Right. But can we do that so that when you get to the last few games in the season that act that are the big ones. Right. The ones that you're judged off of. When you get to the game, are we healthier? And I think that's it's kind of a both a both-and, right?

So I feel confident with five guys. And that's going to be a week to week. You know what I mean? Like these guys know, I think honestly, who start should be week to week? If you display during the week of practice that you're locked in and somebody else has a bad mental week. Well, I can't reward you with starting if you have six mental errors during the week. You know what I mean? Just because you started last week. So I think it's got to be that iron sharpens, iron constant competitions through the whole fall. That is something that big for high-school people would be doing. What kind of a game is he just alluded to. But is that part of which one has to drive you then? Was it driving you then? Then you just assumed that was kind of the case when you played anyway. I always felt when I was here that they were trying to out-root me, which is the reality, right? Yeah. Which is why it prepares you so well for the National Football League. That's why Ohio State prepares you so well for the league. Because now it's like they're trying to out-draft you. And so I used that as fuel. But I also thought firsthand, you know, like there was a season where it was John Kerr, Marcus Freeman, certain guys rotating week to week.

And so I thought like, should it have happened to them that could happen to me? So I just tried to be a certain way in practice. Like I tell the guys all the time, you have to control the things that take no talent. You have to eliminate all the loves. If you loaf on the field, you're a traitor. Like you should just go play for the other team. You can't be coaching effort. And then you can't have mental errors. Because if you have a mental error, then you can't trust you. So those are the two things I always have the player. And I think that the player was like, all right, you're not going to catch me loafing. And you're definitely not going to catch me not knowing what I'm supposed to do. I might get beat. And that's inevitable. It's football. Everyone got scholarship, right? But those two things you can control, everything you think. What's the next step that you've been selling in the same season? I think it's just the end, you know, we haven't done like any of my series. You know what I mean? So we know you can tackle and all that. But I think it's just the repetitive grind of a football game from in the box, and he's been, he's been willing so far, you know what I mean? As far as his hand placement has been good, even more on the strike. He's tough. So it's just continuing to have him challenged to, there's plays right now where he's seeing it

from the first time from a well backer. So the next time he sees it, maybe throw catch tackle is at the intersection. You know what I mean? Because he's seen it before from that perspective. Everything he's seen before this has been from top down off the shelf, right? So now it's dropping back, that'll be driving. So he's made great progress and I'm really happy with how son he's done. James, look at that recruiting. It seems like it's going really well for you. Obviously you can't talk about specific recruits, but just overall how you feel like that's going. And are you enjoying your food? I am. I am enjoying it. I think it's fun to build relationships and get to know so many different types of kids, you know? Ohio State presents opportunity, right? And so many different ways. You're not going to get developed better anywhere else in the country. You have the largest fan base, largest alumni, major's opportunity everywhere, right? So you try to just explore, like explain your passion for the school that did so much for you,

you know, especially being an out of state kid, not being formal, Ohio. And then realizing how much Ohio State changed my life. And so now you communicate that to other young kids who kind of see it and you try to tell them the vision, like where you can get to. And I think the fun thing for me is that most of the kids that are recruiting are way more athletic than I ever was. So it's like, I tell them if I can, the only way I survived in the NFL eight years was the fact that I had football intelligence, like I knew where I was going. You know what I mean? I knew where I was fitting. And so now if I can impart that information on kids who are extremely athletic, well now you're not, you got something special, you know what I mean? How much of you guys have been staff already talking about the long season and the need to play more guys? Well, I think yeah, you're going to have to have depth. That's just the reality, right? It's a longer season. There's more games. And there's no excuse that a place like here, like if you're all playing with a maybe a guy who was third or fourth,

it doesn't matter. You know, like you got to be ready to go. So I think depth is crucial at all of the positions. Because injuries are going to happen there as part of football. You know, you never want to wish it upon anyone and you're certainly not. But it's just, you can't be naive to think that you're just going to have every single starter healthy for the whole season. You talked about your mentality as a player and then you're recruiting different players than you were. How do you, how do you marry that when they made that same mentality that you need and what you want them to have? Well, you figure that out when you get to know them. And there are certainly some kids that you start to recruit to where you see like, you know what? Ohio State might be too big. It might be too big for them. You know what I mean? And so it's not for everybody. You have to want to come in and compete against the best and realize that you have to win every single game and be the best in the world of what you do. That's the expectations. That'll have state. And that's certainly not for everyone. And that's okay. But you have to through the process kind of find out who has that mentality, who really craves football.

You know, like who craves football versus a lot of the other fluff that kind of comes with it. Who craves ball because when they crave football, then the other stuff will take care of itself, right? And we'll just keep getting better and better and better if they want to be the best. Two more questions for Dave. Yeah, that's, I mean, I think that's your job as a recruiter is you got to figure out what's the mindset of the kid. And are they serious about football? And you have to talk to the people that are around them and you got to figure out how to talk to coaches. You just got to try to figure out like who loves ball. And the NFL, they do the same thing, right? Now they're attending the massive amounts of money. And they're saying, okay, we're going to get this person money as a change their motivation or they still love ball. So now it means in college it's the same thing. Like who?
