6:04I think it was before it was actually while David Noble was in the chair They did a review of their football department So if you don't think they have the talent they should be reviewing at this stage Not only appointing their coach but they should be reviewing their football power Well they have to be I mean Brady Rawlings has been there since the end of 2019 And you know he's been in charge of their recruiting and list management These things are on your hood I think she believes they do have a good list I agree I agree that that's what she thinks I would challenge that I don't I think that's what I'm saying what I think it's pretty good Who's their best player? I don't know any one of their midfielders Like she's all over or some of them She's all over you apparently had a good year but wasn't in the best 40 players That's what happened to your coach That's what happens But that midfield Sam is a very very good midfielder Is it? Yeah I think it is I think it is Yeah they just need to Another 20 games I think empirical data would suggest that they're behind Yeah they're lack of key position depth

7:06Like we know we know lucky hadn't had this best year but behind the footy Yeah but there's some good options in the draft from the fiction straightaway So the belief around North Melbourne is that they have the nucleus of a list And they need that coach to come in and take them to the next level That's right That was the initial principle of Ross Lyne going to St. Kilder That they needed a coach to take them to the next level Why they got rid of Brad? Yeah That didn't happen And they brought in an experienced coach like Ross Lyne So is there more evidence the fact that they are looking to just go to that next Itch long North Melbourne That maybe they do look like Adda John Longbier or Adam Simpson closer than say a team That is toward the bottom of the line That's the same thing that was said for Damien Hard We can easily say that when he first got there I've got 80% of the list right here Now all of a sudden it's then that 22% and we're getting messages of we're young And we're still trying to build Her Damien Barrett during the week say he wanted to go to Kokoda He wanted Russell back So they pretty much said we want a modern coach We don't want the coach that coach premierships back a decade ago

8:06We need someone who's going to evolve And that was pretty much what's coming out of North since then People say they only said half of what they were Quarter of what they wanted to say really about what was going wrong at North Melbourne And that a lot of it had an evolved meetings Instead of going for 2530 that the modern coach goes they could go for two or three hours And those things all built up on the players and the staff And moving forward with the... 10:08That means Jolong goes in with an unchanged line up after last week's elimination final Yeah well obviously pretty happy with the squad and the performance last week And we still felt like the team we picked still the best team to beat for a man or tonight So I mean Scott he's talked about it a fair bit about the way we view our squad There's a couple of guys who are out of the team who we'd be really comfortable if they were in the team But for tonight we felt like this was the best selection decision to give us the best chance to win Pop's Jimmy here all the best tonight Last time we had you on you said yeah you're keeping things up your sleeve So now that it is the next time what are you taking out of your sleeve you can just tell us Just no one listening you saying that this show is not good enough No it's just you it's just you're not talking here Yeah just a two of us Now I think what we took out of the game last time And I think it sort of it becomes more true as you sort of get closer to finals and into the finals

11:09Is our ability to sort of control the position of the ball on the ground So being able to keep freeman out of the corridor is something we didn't get perfectly right last time I think in terms of there's a few selection decisions we made last time Obviously stew eating play, baseless cork eating come We had a couple of guys that were a little bit underdone for that game So those things sort of take care of themselves But I think just generally the way we controlled the ground probably wasn't good enough last time we played them And you know they're the best team in the competition they're really good at what they do So it presents another challenge for us but in terms of what we want to restrict It's definitely their movement through the corridor and those explosive plays from Stelbridge And a bit of a template shown to you by the Hawks last week A little bit, yeah I mean I think you know you sort of say Hawks aren't really pressured at them But if you watch all the finals, all the teams that maintain the ability to pressure the ball And stay in the contest for longer You know it's sort of almost a bit of a different sport finals footy

12:11And you know that as well as anyone about the pressure in the contest in your ability To just keep showing up in that part of the game So if we were playing anyone except Freemantle tonight we'd be saying the same thing But certainly the pressure on the ball and keeping the matter corridor is really important You've got no concerns at all I thought the Coney might have been a chance No concerns at all about height behind the footy Yeah it's a good one, Lordy I mean it's one of those, it was a bit of a line ball decision with DK Like we've used him in the Raka fair bit as well He hasn't played as much as the defender I think in the end we were pretty comfortable with the tools that we had behind the ball It's an extra height you know you could argue it was always helpful But in terms of what they looked for the other defenders, how they worked in the Raka We sort of couldn't quite place that in the best spot for tonight So the call was to keeping that at the air but you know there's a few mechanisms And a few levers we can pull if we feel like we're getting out marker behind the ball Loved that first phone last year

13:11When you just went after I think with the luggage and you went off the Cameron Reiner with Oshin Mullin And also Marco Conner I could sort of see something for that with Bolton and also Murphy Reed I know you can't go into that but you okay with that two shutdowns I know I kind of plays back anyway but two real shutdowns in one team Yeah it doesn't bother us too much I think in terms of it's not old school but the kind of the tag is Our sort of philosophy is it's good to do if you've got a good one who can do it So Oshin and Mers certainly fall into that category And I think for us it's sort of a little bit game dependent So if Merrick in sort of takes the most dangerous behind the ball And Oshin takes the most dangerous in the middle That can flip if we feel like the matchups different behind the ball or inside And we're really comfortable having them both inside Because they're really smart guys and they know they're actually the right time to get off their opponent And go and get the ball and join in team defense and all that sort of stuff

14:12So those two boys in particular like that as you mentioned They've worked really hard on that part of their game I'm not just standing in the back pocket of their opponent Actually trying to join in the game contribute to the offense And also helping the team defense So if at any stage two guys and those two guys end up in the center-bounds We don't see them as sitting in the back pocket players And just following them around We see them as just defensively biased midfielders who can still join in the game So I think that helps us James, what did you learn from being part of the Carlton process? I think you get a cold call from a few journalists that you've never met before I don't know if that was the first time that happened to me Now I mean you learn a bit about yourself I think always with these things I've spoken about this once before But you learn a little bit about yourself and your willingness to sort of put yourself out there And I've talked about how you've taken emotional risk for these sort of things And I sort of felt like that was the case with me In terms of any feedback or anything from Carlton

15:15I haven't actually sat down with him just yet It's in the plans in the future once the season finishes So I probably have a more intelligent answer for you in a few words James, do you take another emotional risk in the same year If you get the phone call from North Melbourne? No, I won't see, I'm not really sure To be really honest about it, I haven't given it too much thought We're all sort of a little bit surprised by the Clark O news And we sort of had a hands full with the finals And I can't on heart genuinely, I haven't given it too much thought I'm sure that'll come in time And I'll make the decision when it comes If it comes I think that Bayley Smith plays game 150 tonight, Kale Obviously when you see him playing at the dogs You probably got one impression of him And now that you've been able to work with him for a couple of years What is surprised you the most about Bayley? I think always when you see players up close And you sort of seem in the four walls You know, I sort of watch Bayley play

16:15And I almost knew he was really athletic And strong for his size and all those sort of things And you know, you seem just covering the ground so much As when you're sort of scouting your position But seeing him at up close in the building You do get a real appreciation for how much F-1D puts into that side of the game And how much F-1D puts into keeping his body right Making sure he's available for training Training is really hard, he's really diligent with his preparation And meticulous about reviewing his performance You know, it's sort of no surprise that he ends up playing the footy that he does Like some of those guys you think, oh maybe he's just a bit of a freak athlete And you know, he was just born good footy But I've been really surprised with how hard he works at it And the energy he's brought to our playing group Like we have a bit of an older group And some guys who are a little bit conservative is the wrong word But they just go about their business every day And he's brought a really healthy amount of positive energy into our group Which has been brilliant as well But it's certainly just a really good person I really enjoy spending time with Bayley

17:15So in terms of selection this week and Jeremy Cameron, did you discuss Like how can we settle him down a little bit more? Like in terms of starting back and X-Men, he's on the wing And just trying it now for little tricks which are good at as a club But to try and find a way to get him into the game a bit more Yeah, I think the starting back last week was just trying not to let them have a bit of a look If you're just being straight on the wing And if they had a match up ready for him, that's just handing it to him for free Right at the first bounce So he wasn't behind the ball for very long Even though he has played some good footy there We don't mind him behind the ball But I think the bigger issue for us is we really wanted to get the ball off the line And get it out to him in a bit of space But we just couldn't do that for the game last week And the conditions played a role in that So beautiful night here tonight So hopefully we can get the ball out to a bit of space and then into Jeremy's hands But we have talked about to what you're saying Like we still have to do, we do have to have an appreciation for how good he is inside 50

18:17Even if there's no one else inside that 50 neta line We'd love to see that as well And you know, I haven't played much forward but when I was playing but I assume that's every forwards dream He's having the whole 52 himself But there's a lot of things that have to happen for that We have to be getting the ball down there enough for that to be beneficial And part of the thing of having Jeremy up the ground is I'd argue he's the best ball user in the competition between the arc So sort of moving him where we think he can influence his main thing And Jeremy is sort of on board with that as well He wants to have an involvement between the arcs but also inside 50 So a long way to answer your question Yes, we'll try to just finish on a real light one, Kel We know our man, Shannon Burns, your runner He gets the extra tight running kit on for finals Is it skin tight for tonight? I personally wouldn't think there'd be a suit of real Because of his age and his own standards Yes, would you think it'd ever get to the stage where Melbourne would pay some of his contract? I think if that was part of it

21:19I reckon he'd land somewhere Just because of the things that you're highlighted The leadership, the training standards I agree with you as far as just a football point of view You might as well keep going down the path of Sharp and Roby and the young players to build together I actually see it a little differently, Lord O'Rourke I think it actually represents an opportunity for the Estonan Fuddy Club to get creative And do a Jack Bo's situation Where it's okay, we'll take Jack But we'll take your first peak as well Melbourne And we'll pay all this money because TPP is not an issue for Estonan at the moment Right, they need to pay someone They need to go out, so you're going to have more than a million dollars per year If Jack was to come in and you can get a draft pick on top of him I'm not giving you my first round pick if I'm essence No, no, no, no, no, I'm saying the opposite We want your first round pick as well So to Viny and DeFizry Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, get me going now No, Melbourne's not doing that deal Well, they're probably not But I'm saying I'd be open to the conversation of saying we'll take on all these money But we want something else for it It's quite funny that person you mentioned is someone that maybe they are looking at his Jack Bo's
