Position of Neutrality: Trusting and Relying on a Higher Power Step 4 AA
About this episode
Join Joe McDonald as he reads from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, exploring the importance of trusting and relying on a higher power in Step 4 AA. Joe emphasizes the shift from self-reliance to reliance on a power greater than ourselves, a crucial aspect of the recovery journey.
“We’re trying to get you reliant on the power within you which is greater than you and then add to that properly align your self-reliance and you’ll do great things. So some of us once had great self-confidence. But it didn’t fully solve the fear problem or any other when it made us cocky. It was worse. Most of us know about that. When we get to thinking that something that was done for us and through us was something we did, we lose access to that power.”
Joe highlights the transition to a different basis of living: “So perhaps there’s a better way. We think so, for we’re now on a different basis, the basis of trusting and relying upon God. Those of you that get worked up about God remember we’re talking about power from within.”
Joe’s discussion offers a message of hope and the possibility of transformation through the 12-step recovery process. This session emphasizes the importance of reaching out for help and the power of the support found within recovery communities.
