“I’m not telling you about something I think is true according to somebody else. I’m telling you it has been my experience as an addict of the hopeless variety that people as bad as me cannot be redeemed. They die. And often, we don’t die quick enough, and it’s sad and awful. But every once in a while, people like me get yanked out from that scrap heap. We make really powerful witnesses because you can’t refute my experience. You can believe whatever you want, but I don’t believe in God. Okay. He believes in you. You wouldn’t be talking to me. The requirement is not your belief at all. You just have to come to believe that a power greater than you could restore you.”
