Position of Neutrality: Confronting Excuses in Step 12 AA Breaking Free Overcoming Alcohol Dependency Together
About this episode
Join Joe McDonald as he expands on the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, diving into the realities of Step 12 AA. In this session, Joe addresses the common excuses that often surface when people place their recovery on a service plane rather than truly relying on God.
“The minute we put our work on a service plane, the alcoholic commences to rely upon our assistance rather than upon God. He clamors for this or that, claiming he cannot master alcohol until his material needs are cared for. Is that true for you? You were not able to get cleaned up until all your life was perfect, then it’s complete nonsense, isn’t it? We got to call that. As peers, we get to call that. Well, look, I’ll never be able to… If she doesn’t come back and I don’t get my job back, I can’t stop. Bullshit. You drank through lots of jobs. You drank through lots of wives and a couple of boyfriends if I’m not mistaken. You don’t know we know that about each other. Job or no job, wife or no wife.”
Joe highlights the importance of accountability in recovery, urging participants to focus on the true source of strength rather than external circumstances. This session emphasizes the need to confront the excuses that block spiritual progress.
