Pope Leo XIV Calls for Middle East Ceasefire

Pope Leo the 14th called for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East conflict on Sunday in his strongest statement yet. The first American Pope urged leaders responsible for the war with Iran to stop the fighting and open doors for talks. He stressed that violence won't bring the justice, stability, or peace people need. He referenced a devastating missile strike on an elementary school in Iran early in the war, which killed more than 165 people, including many children. U.S. officials blame outdated intelligence for the hit on the mean-op school and an investigation continues. The Vatican spotlighted the tragedy with a front-page photo of a mass grave for the young victims in its newspaper on March 6th. Christian communities in southern Lebanon worry the Pope as they serve as a key support for believers in the mostly Muslim area.
