Police Officer Stalking Charges After Recruitment Ad

0:00On March 13th, a metropolitan police officer who starred in a recent recruitment ad now faces charges of stalking and harassing a woman, 35-year-old PC Samson Akonawa appeared in court over unwanted calls, messages, business to her home, and other actions from June to August. Last year, he had featured in the forces Change Needs You campaign back in July 2024, sharing his lifelong dream of becoming an officer. Before joining the police, Akonawa worked as a prison officer and bus driver. The alleged behavior caused the victim, Malia Kadehli, serious distress and disrupted her daily life. Officials say it even involved him admitting to following her from work and reaching out to her friend after his arrest. In court on Friday, he pleaded guilty to not giving police his phone passcode back on November 26th. District Judge Lisa Tau granted him conditional bail until his next hearing at Snare's Brook Crown Court on April 10th, where he'll interplease on the main charges.

1:01He's from Walton Road in New Ham, London, was with the Specialist Operations Unit at the time and remains suspended from duty while the case moves forward.
