Police Officer Jailed for Fatal Crash

0:00On April 8th, a 57-year-old police officer named Mark Roberts just got 27 months in prison for causing the death of A, 74-year-old woman during an emergency response. He was driving a marked police car through a red light in the 30-mouse per hour zone back in July 2022 in Gateshead. Roberts hit a motorcycle carrying Muriel Pankney and her husband Ronald traveling at 43 miles per hour before slowing to about 25. At impact, Muriel died from severe head and neck injuries while Ronald suffered a brain bleed and broken bones. The family called it a tragic accident and even asked the court not to jail Roberts, saying prison time wouldn't bring her back. Roberts, an army veteran with service in places like Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, and Iraq, said he was heartbroken and saw it as a pure mishap after. Spiting a van breaking ahead.
