On March 24th, a Metropolitan Police Officer has been convicted of sexually assaulting a colleague at a work social event. PC Jason Caper squeezed his fellow officer's backside at a pub and marrow bone on January 24th, 2025. He pleaded guilty to sexual assault by touching at Westminster Magistrate's Court on February 4th. On March 6th, Caper received a 12-month community order and had to pay 199 pounds in court fees. The incident happened during an off-duty gathering for officers from the Central West Basic Command Unit. Police leaders expressed strong disappointment over the behavior. Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessa stressed that such actions fall far short of what the public expects from officers. She highlighted the need for women to feel safe in London and vowed to remove anyone who doesn't meet those standards. A disciplinary panel took further action against Caper. Senator Katie Lilburn, the panel chair, dismissed him without notice, citing the serious
nature of the offense. He has also been added to the College of Police's Bard List, preventing future police work. The Met continues to prioritize professional conduct to rebuild trust with the community.
