1:00Police, the FBI and ATF all converged on Odell Avenue and White Plains Monday. That's after a suspicious device was found near an apartment building, while officials responded to what was first reported as an electrical transformer explosion. That turned out to not be the case. These folks spoke to CBS2. We thought it was just fireworks. They really racked a lot of the buildings around here. It is kind of scary, especially with the bomb squad here. With everything that's going on in the world right now, with all these wars and everything, you never know. Authorities say the device was dangerous, but not sophisticated enough to have been detonated remotely. Two persons of interest were being questioned, but so far no word of any connection or charges. Closing arguments begin today and the trial of the man accused of murder in the 2024 fatal shooting of NYPD officer Jonathan Diller during a traffic stop in Queens. Lawyers for 36-year-old Guy Rivera say there was no intention to kill Diller and have suggested that the gun discharge during a chaotic scene.

2:00In fact, they have asked the judge to allow jurors to consider a lesser charge of criminally negligent homicide. If convicted, Rivera, who has previously served time for assault robbery and drug possession, could be looking at life without parole. The NYPD shot and killed a dog who was attacking somebody last night. This was in far rockaway cops responded to 414 Beach 58 Street.
