On March 4th, an off-duty greater Manchester police officer and his search dog recently found a missing man on Saddleworth Moore. The pair located him near Greenfield Reservoir on Saturday night after he became lost in rough terrain. Thermal footage from a police plane first spotted the man around 10.20pm, about two miles east of the Reservoir. The officer and dog then tracked across challenging Moorland with no clear paths to reach him quickly. The man was suffering from hypothermia and exhaustion, but the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team arrived fast with medical help. They gave him shelter, insulation, warm drinks, and food right there on the scene. A second rescue team brought extra gear and packaged him into a stretcher for evacuation. He was airlifted to a nearby ambulance and rushed to hospital, where he has since recovered and been discharged. This quick multi-agency teamwork turned what could have been a deadly situation into a full recovery, highlighting the dangers of the Moors even for.

Experienced hikers.
