Please serve on a Grand Jury

Tea With George

About this episode

Please serve on a Grand Jury
Today’s Tea Time is from guest host Steve Adams of Lynchburg VA on why serve on a grand jury. “Recently I had the honor of serving as a grand juror of my jurisdiction. We were all cordial as we entered the jury room that morning. I soon learned that my fellow jurors were business owners, teachers, housewives, retirees, and farmers. A good mix of the area! A grand jury is formed of random citizens to view the charges in the evidence of criminal case to determine if the state has reached a point where an indictment can be issued. In light of the recent turmoil we have witnessed on the national stage, I felt more confident that frivolous charges cannot be easily leveled against just anyone. Yes, cases can be initiated for any reason, including political, but to advance that case must be heard by average citizens, chosen at random for the grand jury. If you can serve as a juror, please accept it as a civic duty. And as an honor bestowed on you by what may be the best justice system in the world!”
