Peter Lawson, who worked on classics like Thomas the Tank Engine and Winnie the Pooh, passed away in 2023 after a 21 month. Fight with bowel cancer. His last book on Big Bear Shoulders just came out posthumously. It hit shells on World Book Day with proceeds going to tie half-in a children's hospice close to Peter's heart. He once said children in hospice should never go together in the same sentence, and he wrote this tale during his illness to spark kids' imaginations. Even in tough times, Peter's daughter Thia, who works in emergency care, shared how the book offers real comfort. She sees suffering daily, but believes this story reassures children, they are safe and held, helping them forget worries for a bit. Over a 35-year career, Peter brought to life characters like Fireman Sam, Postman Pat, Door the Explorer, and Barbie. Just three months before his diagnosis, he even bite from Cardiff to St. Andrews in Scotland to raise money for the hospice.
