On this March 6th in Tampa Bay, here's what is making headlines, a 66 year old man died after an SUV struck him while he crossed the street in Pinellas Park. Police say it happened on March 5th, just after 7.30 a.m., in the 3,800 block of 70th Avenue North. The driver, 55 year old Maria Nguyen, was heading west in her Lexus when she did not see the pedestrian Byron Tavana. He was using a marked crosswalk, heading north, though the walk signal was not on at the time. Tavana was rushed to a hospital, but sadly passed away from his injuries. No one else was hurt in the crash. Investigators found no signs of speeding or impairment on the driver's part. Police quickly ruled those out as factors. Nguyen got a citation for the incident, but officials do not expect any criminal charges to be filed. This episode is brought to you in partnership with our sponsor.
