Pearl clutching

refers to someone who reacts with fake shock or exaggerated moral outrage — usually at something that isn’t really that shocking. It comes from the old-fashioned image of someone clutching their pearls in surprise or horror.

Examples

1- When the comedian made a bold joke, there was some pearl-clutching in the audience, but most people laughed.

2- She posted a picture in a swimsuit, and of course, the pearl-clutchers showed up in the comments section.
